COSMIC WEATHER:

“It has bothered me all my life that I do not paint like everybody else.” Henri Matisse

The Moon is in individualistic Aquarius all day, encouraging us to celebrate and revel in our own personal brand, while at the same time urging us to make a positive contribution to the collective. Too, due to the airy, detached nature of Aquarius, the Moon here also potentially supplies us with more objectivity for dealing with our feelings. The Aquarius Moon is also innovative, so it is a great day to be curious. To ask questions. To see if there is a novel way to improve upon the existing protocol.

The experimental Aquarian Moon energy also adds positive support to the cartel of five planets in enterprising Aries, a sign that is largely focused on the matter of its own self-discovery, and proving itself through bold action. The Moon’s harmonious trine to stabilizer Saturn in relationship Libra (1:46 pm EDT) also helps to get us solid backing and endorsement from others for whatever worthy causes we might want to spearhead today.

“What is not started today is never finished tomorrow.” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Astrology April 15, 2011: “Fuzzy Thinking” Mercury Semisquare Neptune

COSMIC WEATHER:

“About half my designs are controlled fantasy, fifteen percent are total madness and the rest are bread-and-butter designs.” Manolo Blahnik

Normally the Moon in “analytical” Virgo bodes well for our operating more logically and systematically. And, while hopefully, this will still be the case for us today, we do need to be aware that there is also now greater proclivity for some “fuzzy thinking” because not only is the Virgo Moon’s ruler, Mercury, still in retrograde phase, it is also stressfully aligned today (semisquare) with “let me blur the boundaries for you” Neptune in imaginative Pisces (the sign Neptune rules). Neptune is the planet of fantasy, so we will want to be “double-checking” our facts today. Too, if some of our ideas seem a little “weird” or “spacey” to us, it may be best not to act on them or give them voice in public (could garner some strange looks, or raised eyebrows, if we do.) 🙂

Of course, with Neptune ruling “make-believe” and Mercury ruling the “news,” some of us today, too, may be disillusioned or disheartened (Neptune) about the entertainment news from ABC yesterday that the network will be axing “All My Children,” and “One Life To Live.” Kelly Ripa on “Live With Regis and Kelly” today recalled her days on AMC which launched her career.

BTW, when both of these soaps debuted on TV (‘One Life To Live’ on 7/15/68 and ‘All My Children’ on 1/5/70), “fantasy Neptune” was a big factor in each of the shows’ respective horoscopes. ‘One Life to Live‘ debuted with the Sun exactly favorably trine to Neptune in sexual Scorpio, while ‘All My Children” went on the air with Mercury exactly sextile Neptune in Scorpio (another positive, dreamy aspect). Of course, we always ideally want to have Neptune well-aspected in a “soap-opera” horoscope since we are dealing with the realm of “make-believe,” and when Neptune’s ray is stoked, we are more willing to be led by our imagination. Neptune also rules television.

Are you a fan of both or either of these shows? How do you feel about their pending departure? Bummed out? Feel a little like you have lost a family member? While I was personally a huge fan of the old “Dallas” evening “soap opera” show on CBS-TV, many moons ago, and was devastated when it went off the air (loved Larry Hagman as “JR”), I have never even watched one episode of ‘One Life To Live,’ or ‘All My Children.’ Always too busy working during the daytime. Of course, I know of Susan Lucci, the star of ‘All My Children.’ Too, Oprah Winfrey recently did a show on soap opera stars and Susan was on that show.

Astrology April 12, 2011: “Taking Center-Stage” The Leo Moon

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Broad paths are open to every endeavor, and a sympathetic recognition is assured to everyone who consecrates his art to the divine services of a conviction of consciousness.” Franz Liszt

It’s that time of the month again, with the Moon stationed in glamorous, “Hollywood Hills” Leo, when we must dutifully ascend the theater stairwell and take our rightful place, center-stage, beside leading man, George Clooney.  It’s, of course, a thankless job, but hey, somebody has to do it! 🙂

Yes, the Moon in “entertainment” Leo paves the way for us to be a “shining star” today in our own real-life dramas. The colorful Leo Moon is naturally upbeat and creative, authoritative, and self-confident, and generally imbues us with more of a desire to “make a big splash” and “receive recognition” for the things that we do.

Too, the Moon’s winning trine to energizer Mars in “pioneering” Aries (1:54 pm EDT) helps to fill us with loads of passion and daring. This aspect is also favorable for sports and exercise.

Later, the Moon’s sextile to “stabilizing” Saturn in partnership Libra may help to anchor our relationships (10:28 pm EDT), and can inspire us to make commitments (Saturn). Saturn governs the “urge for security.”

Famous Birthdays April 12: Herbie Hancock (71), David Letterman (64)

In The News: Japan’s nuclear safety agency raised the severity level of the crisis at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant today to a 7 – the highest level on an international scale, bringing the crisis on par with the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. Astrologically, we still have Mars involved in a tight square to Pluto (this influence was exact late yesterday). Pluto rules radiation and nuclear power. (Also, on the shadow side, Pluto can denote crisis situations and turning points.)

Mars, of course, tends to act as a catalyst for events, especially in an “initiating” sign like Aries which it rules. (The “square” aspect also tends to “force matters.”) Again, our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Japan. Such a tragedy.

Astrology April 9, 2011: Purging Pluto Stations Retrograde in Capricorn!

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Sometimes you have to let everything go – purge yourself if you are unhappy with anything…whatever is bringing you down, get rid of it. Because you’ll find that when you’re free, your true creativity, your true self comes out.” Tina Turner

Well, we would probably be very wise to heed Tina Turner’s advice today and consider eliminating “what isn’t working for us” now, as “bulldozing” Pluto, associated with death and rebirth, stations retrograde in “structural” Capricorn, the sign of business, career, and government. Pluto will stay retrograde until mid-September.

Purge, reform, renew, recycle, makeover, transform, de-clutter. These are all Pluto keywords and, again, they are all descriptive of the types of activities that we may want to consciously engage in now in a bid to “liberate” our true self. (Also, we need to pay attention to the house that Pluto is retrograding in, in our personal horoscopes, for more of a frame of reference regarding where the purging or renewing may be taking place for us on an individual level.)

Too, often around the time that a planet stations retrograde, is when we really glean the “real gist” of the cycle on an internal level. We may also simultaneously see “telling” things happening in the collective that reinforce these Pluto themes home to us now.

Also, this time around we have energizer Mars in “new beginnings” Aries applying to a potent square to Pluto (this aspect will be exact on Monday). Mars square Pluto can denote a time of intense, sustained effort that can really reconfigure the playing field around us. It is a time when we can notably get ahead, if we seriously apply ourselves. Pluto is very concentrated, focused energy and with enterprising Mars beaming down on it, this ‘focus” is potentially magnified or strengthened.

On the shadow side, this very same Mars-Pluto aspect can sometimes backfire for us and have very negative or destructive consequences, if we are acting too much on the level of ego (bereft of conscience), and are too controlling or forceful (Pluto) with respect to pushing our agendas at all cost, even in the face of mighty resistance.

We probably need to be reminded again, too, that Pluto does rule “the underworld.” It can also indicate “extremism” and extremist groups or factions, including terrorist elements. As I am writing this blog this morning, a top news headline is about a police search for a 61-year-old homeless man who is allegedly wanted in connection with the bombing of a synagogue on Thursday in Santa Monica, California. Suffice it to say, Pluto also rules bombs and explosive devices.

Pluto also rules “turning points” and with Mars in sports-ruling Aries (again the Mars-Pluto square), we saw baseball player, Manny Ramirez, suddenly retire yesterday after allegedly and reportedly failing a drug test in spring training. (Pluto’s activated ray often brings about “transparency,” it shines a spotlight on activities that have previously been hidden.) We are also awaiting a verdict in the Barry Bonds‘ perjury trial now.

On a more positive note, a shutdown of the U.S. government was also averted late last night as Democrats and Republicans finally agreed to a budget deal. Pluto rules debt and red ink and is stationed in governmental Capricorn. All week, we have heard graphic reports, too, of what a “scaled-down” (Pluto) U.S. government would look like. Also, this week, House Republican, Paul Ryan, who chairs the House Budget Committee, unveiled his own budget blueprint for a massive downsizing of the U.S. government that would also reportedly abolish Medicare and “gut” (Pluto) Medicaid. (Extremist Pluto at work?)

Astrology April 6, 2011: Sun conjunct Jupiter in Aries

COSMIC WEATHER:

“If we’re growing, we’re always going to be out of our comfort zone.” – John Maxwell

Expansion is the keyword for us today, as the powerhouse Sun annually conjoins Jupiter (10:41 am), the largest planet in our solar system associated with growth and opportunity. With Sun-Jupiter, we tend to think big. We also are more inclined to look at the bigger picture.

Psychologically, it is thought that we don’t want to be confined or hemmed in any way now. We also may tend to have more faith that things will work out, as long as we hold on to the dream.

Astrology refers to Jupiter as the “planet of luck” or abundance. It’s associated with prosperity or an easing of circumstances.

Traditionally, Jupiter has been described as having a more protective quality to it. Jupiter is also linked with faith, optimism, and our own sense of humor. Too, a case could be made that when we are more optimistic and positive (Jupiter), we often seem to attract more positive things to us i.e. the “law of attraction.”

So, with Sun-Jupiter today, we may consider doing things that help to broaden our scope of influence. Make us feel that we are growing versus stagnating. Perhaps heed John Maxwell and get out of our comfort zone and do something grand!

This Sun-Jupiter conjunction is also occurring in “initiating” Aries, the adventurous sign of “new beginnings.”

Fascinatingly, a quick peak back into history also shows that the very last time the Sun and Jupiter had their meetup in pioneering Aries, “Nunavut,” an Inuit homeland, was created from the eastern portion of the Northwest Territories to become Canada’s third territory (April 1, 1999). So, Canada literally “grew” in scope with Sun conjunct Jupiter.

Also back on that date, both the Sun and Jupiter were exactly trine to transforming Pluto in visionary Sagittarius (ruled by Jupiter), which was also a good time to symbolically “restructure” (Pluto) things.

The “shadow side” of Sun-Jupiter: We may need to be careful that we are not too wasteful or extravagant with our resources. That we don’t over-commit or over-promise. We also may need to guard against over-indulgence.

Some famous people born with Sun conjunct Jupiter: Mick Jagger, Woody Allen, Garth Brooks, and Anais Nin.

COSMIC WEATHER:

“My passions were all gathered together like fingers that made a fist. Drive is considered aggression today; I knew it then as purpose.” Bette Davis

Mars, the planet of drive and self-assertion, enters its own home turf of Aries today (12:51 am EDT), where it will stay until May 11th. Mars in its own sign tends to be very impulsive, yet also courageous and daring. Its placement here helps to fuel our desires, including our sexual desires, which Mars also governs. With Mars in adventurous Aries, the sign of identity and self-discovery, we may feel the urge to “act quickly” on our dreams.

The Moon also enters Aries today (7:17 am EDT) in preparation for its New Moon on Sunday (10:33 am EDT). All told, when it does, we will have a total of six of the celestial bodies in “steroidal” Aries: the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Uranus. The Moon also conjuncts freedom-loving Uranus (9:46 am EDT) and squares intense, controlling Pluto (10:26 pm EDT). Also, Mars will be conjuncting high-voltage Uranus on Sunday.

Additionally, love maven Venus is forming a fortuitous, 60-degree aspect to transforming Pluto today. This aspect can magnetically boost our “power of attraction.” Venus-Pluto can also deepen our relationships and heighten our passions.

Too, Venus-Pluto aspects are often regarded as times when we may “meet our soulmates.” This is because in karmic astrology, Pluto is linked with our “past lives” and Venus, of course, rules love. Retrograde Mercury (which we also have now) has also been known to put “people from our past,” back into our orbit.

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Seduction is always more singular and sublime than sex and it commands the higher price.” Jean Baudrillard

The Moon continues in grounded Capricorn urging us to apply common sense to our feelings and emotions. Although, the Moon’s monthly conjunction to controlling Pluto (11:49 am) could pose a few challenges for us if we venture outside of our boundaries and try to exert too much pressure or influence on others.

This is an excellent purge aspect, though, so venting could be a good thing now, if done in a mindful fashion that does not unduly alienate or involve mudslinging or the re-opening of old, hurtful wounds.

Pluto is associated with the subconscious and under its activated ray, things buried deep inside of us tend to rise to the surface for review.

Also, it’s potentially a great time to recycle or declutter on the home front or at the office. Perhaps one of the premier times of the month to do so!

On the other hand, treasure-hunters may want to do some antiquing, as Moon-Pluto can be favorable for unearthing “rare jewels.”

Connection queen Venus also forms a tense, 135-degree aspect to withholding Saturn in partnership Libra (5:04 pm).  We may possibly feel a little more cut off or blocked in expressing our feelings as Saturn can sometimes give a voice to our fears.

However, this low feeling may not linger too long, as we also have love maven Venus conjuncting magical Neptune (9:40 pm), a time when we are possibly more inclined to idealize love.

Putting our lover on a pedestal or making great sacrifices for the sake of love, may be part of our mindset now, as Venus-Neptune can be a very seductive, alluring influence.

We do perhaps need to be mindful of the fact, though, that all that glitters may not be gold. Because, on the shadow side, “spellbinding” Venus-Neptune can be deceptive. We are also potentially more emotionally vulnerable now.

Also, new people that come into our lives may be on a “different wavelength” from us. This influence has been known to produce some rather odd pairings.

Too, with Neptune symbolizing our link to the divine, Venus-Neptune, at the highest levels, can equate to “selfless love,” or an ability for demonstrating deep compassion and sensitivity with others. Therefore, it’s thought to be an excellent time to do charitable work or to dole out good deeds. It is also a very creative influence, perfect for any artistic renderings or performances, including dancing, as Neptune rules the feet.

Venus also moves into Neptune-ruled Pisces tomorrow, so today is sort of a “test-run” for possible things to come. Venus stays in Pisces until April 21. (Refer to my Venus in Pisces blog post for more details.)

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Having a positive mental attitude is asking how something can be done rather than saying it can’t be done.” Bo Bennett

The bewitching Moon spends her day in optimistic Sagittarius, where she is more inclined to conclude that, “Yes, indeed, the glass is half full!” The early morning hours are best for mental work with the Moon’s trine to logical thinker Mercury ( 8:24 am EDT). The Moon’s tense square to impulsive Mars (11:09 am EDT) also cautions us to “think” before we act.

Later on, our romantic prospects brighten with the Moon’s warm sextile to connection queen Venus (7:03 pm EDT). Our blissful mood continues with the Moon’s magical sextile to dreamy, meditative guru Neptune (9:26 pm EDT), a time to seek out more mystical or creative outlets. Neptune represents our “link to the divine.”

Shortly afterward, the Moon then switches to realistic Capricorn (9:58 pm EDT), forming a potent square to rebellious child Uranus, who could put a disruptive kink into our levitation practices, if we’re not careful. A time when we could also temporarily conclude that the glass is “half empty.” Of course, this need not be the case if we keep our eyes focused on the “bigger picture” and our grander intentions for ourselves.

Astrology March 18, 2011: “Serious Perspective” Mercury Opposite Saturn

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Nothing is worth doing unless the consequences may be serious.” George Bernard Shaw

The Moon remains in logical, analytical Virgo, setting the tone for thinker Mercury’s opposition to judgmental Saturn (9:55 am EDT). This is definitely a day when we will want to be well-prepared and organized in our responses. Otherwise we tend to suffer the consequences, especially from higher-ups and authority figures (Saturn) who may be inclined to find fault (Saturn) with us for not doing our due diligence.  The Virgo Moon can be a stickler for detail and Mercury-Saturn can be very serious and exacting. In general, this aspect tends to impart more of a sobering outlook.

On the plus side with this influence, we have a great opportunity to deepen our perception and probe matters with expert clarity, particularly since we also have the Moon in discriminating Virgo. Overall, a great day for research and for making serious assessments.

COSMIC WEATHER:

“There’s a collective knowing that a dimension of reality exists beyond the material plane, and that sense of knowing is causing a mystical resurgence on the planet today.” Marianne Williamson

This St. Patty’s Day the Moon is winding up its passage in “big hair” Leo, heading for the sweet, “vacuumed-paradise” of Virgo (4:53 pm EDT). Before it vacates theatrical Leo, however, it is meeting up with “transcendent” Neptune (3:59 pm EDT), which is at the very end of hi-tech Aquarius, propelling us into a more “visionary” or “mystical” state of mind. A good day to simply “go with the flow” and pay closer attention to our intuitive awareness versus relying purely on reason and logic.

Too, even though we do have the Moon switching to analytical Virgo later on, we also have Mercury, the ruler of Virgo, involved in a 45-degree aspect to psychedelic Neptune (9:32 pm EDT). So, there’s no escaping the clutches of our fanciful imagination today, which Neptune rules.

Do we maybe have any creative projects (poetry, writing, film, music, art, etc.) that we can work on today that will allow us to tap into Neptune’s inspired ray? We also may want to make time for meditation or prayer (Neptune). Neptune is also associated with “divine love” and “compassion.” A good day for “giving back” to others. Too, we may want to watch our intake of “green beer,” this St. Patty’s Day, as Neptune does rule alcohol consumption and escapism. If we are not careful, we could be tempted to “drown our sorrows.”
