Cosmic Weather:

“He who thinks little errs much…” Leonardo da Vinci

Thinker Mercury in practical Taurus is forming an awkward aspect (quinqunx) to philosophical Jupiter (retrograde) in enthusiastic Sagittarius today (5:48 pm EDT) so there may be a tendency to gloss over pivotal details in a bid to view things from a larger, big-picture lens. While this aspect can help put us in touch with our revered hopes or dreams for the future, we are also potentially more likely to discount or override good old-fashioned common-sense now. Since Jupiter is also retrograde, it could be that we are revisiting a tantalizing situation from the past now. Still trying to ‘bring it down from the clouds.’ However, it’s probably not going to be happening, just yet, again, as, more than likely, more flesh still needs to be applied to the demanding Saturnian bones for this delicate thing to fly on its own. A good question, maybe, to ask ourselves today, is, “What am I not seeing here that could be a game changer?”

Famous May 17 Birthdays: Dennis Hopper, Sugar Ray Leonard

On This Day in History: On May 17, 1900, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” is first published by L. Frank Baum with illustrations by William Wallace Denslow in Chicago. The astrology that day: Jupiter, Uranus, and the North Node were conjunct in story-telling Sagittarius and initiating Mars had just entered 0 degrees of manifesting Taurus. Communicator Mercury was also in Taurus and separating from a sextile to artistic Venus in “there’s no place like home” Cancer.

Hope you enjoy your Friday!

“An idea can only become a reality once it is broken down into organized, actionable elements.” Scott Belsky

COSMIC WATCH:

The empowering Sun in philosophical Sagittarius has us scheming about the bigger picture. But before we can manifest that grand vision for ourselves, we may need to break it down into smaller parts, or actionable steps. That’s where today’s Moon in analytical Virgo can practically assist us by helping us to systematically fill in many of the blanks on how to get there.

The Moon’s trine to energizer Mars (10:31 am EST) also inspires us to do and be our best.

Famous Birthdays December 6:  Agnes Moorehead, Dave Brubeck. “I’m always hoping for the nights that are inspired, where you almost have an out of body experience.” Dave Brubeck.

Sadly, Dave Brubeck passed away in Norwalk, CT yesterday, just one day shy of his 92nd birthday. He reportedly died on his way to a cardiology appointment.

COSMIC WATCH:

Mercury conjunct philosophical Jupiter brings an expansive quality to the mind. Not only is there an abundance of enthusiasm for communication and for gathering and imparting information, there is also more of an ability to comprehend the broader aspects of issues, commonly referred to as the “big picture” point of view. On the flip side, we may be less interested now regarding the fine details of matters, something that we may want to be mindful of if we are doing any long-range planning. “Caress the detail, the divine detail.” Vladimir Nabokov

This is also an excellent day to expose ourselves to the ideas and beliefs of other cultures, as not only are we potentially more tolerant of divergent viewpoints now, we are also more eager to add new outlooks or perceptions to our intellectual toolboxes. Too, the Sun, Moon and Venus are all deposited in curious Gemini, so the Universe really seems to be committed to nudging us along in the direction of new learning and an expanded mindset.

We may additionally want to examine our beliefs about money and wealth creation today, with the Mercury Jupiter conjunction occurring in bullish Taurus. Just exactly how might our beliefs be serving us here? How may they be hindering us? What actions might we take now to ensure our financial freedom in the future? “The lack of money is the root of all evil.” Mark Twain.

Enjoy your Tuesday!

COSMIC WATCH:

Jupiter, the planet of optimism and opportunity, is in harmonious alignment with the Sun, our power source and sense of self. The Moon is also in “pioneering” Aries. We are encouraged to act with confidence today and to mingle socially with others, particularly with those who are perceived to be authority figures or our superiors (Sun), as we have a chance to really shine now in their presence, which could help us to get ahead. The energy of the day is also conducive for undertaking new personal beginnings, or making headway with our goals.  With Sun-Jupiter, we are better able to see the “big picture” view of things, although we still do need to be attentive to the details.

Jupiter is also in “money and possession sign” Taurus and it is interesting that yesterday, as this influence was applying, the S & P’s 500-stock index closed at its highest level since 2008, on the heels of better-than-expected reports on home sales and consumer sentiment (wsj.com). Jupiter, which is linked with abundance, is often billed as the “cosmic Santa.” Jupiter is also applying to a positive trine to Pluto, which will be exact in a couple weeks. Pluto is associated with mega-wealth.

Famous Persons with Sun Sextile Jupiter: Madonna, Elvis Presley, Albert Camus, Prince Andrew of England.

February 25 Birthdays: Rudolph Steiner, Jim Backus

Today’s Affirmation: I am grateful for all that I have. I am also appreciative of the Universe for generously tending to all of my needs.

What are you going to reach for today?

Enjoy your Saturday!

astrology for january 19 2012, big picture, darkness, Dolly Parton birthday, flip the switch, horoscope january 19 2012, light, Moon in Sagittarius, Paul Cezanne birthday, Shelley Fabares birthday

COSMIC WATCH:

Some of us may feel like we are sputtering around in the darkness today, weighed down by our burdens and responsibilities, and also by our past (Sun square Saturn). However, when we remember that all we have to do is metaphorically “flip a switch” inside, (i.e. shift our thinking), suddenly a new, illuminated reality can begin to emerge for us at any moment. Hopefully, a brighter reality with more open doors. Sun-Saturn is often a timely period for seriously assessing our current lot and weighing our future possibilities.

The Moon in “big picture” Sagittarius today also encourages us to prolifically “wish upon a star,” regardless of how dim or bright we perceive our present situation to be. Life Coach, Martha Beck, wrote a best-selling book entitled, Steering By Starlight, in which she discusses hooking up with your own “North Star” within. The inspiring North Star concept reminds me of the visionary Sagittarius Moon a shine at her very best. We are wanting so much to “believe in the dream” when the Moon is in this sign. Yet, with the Sun-Saturn energy, we may also be needing to refine that dream at least a tad today. Or, perhaps be willing to “adjust our steering” to get to it. 🙂

“Live in rooms full of light.” Cornelius Celsus

January 19th Birthdays: Dolly Parton, Shelley Fabares, Paul Cezanne

Today’s Affirmation: “Wherever I go there is light. Darkness is only an illusion.”

What lights you up and gets you feeling empowered?

In the News: Presidential hopeful, Rick Perry, dropped out of the GOP race today and is reportedly endorsing Newt Gingrich. Occasionally, with the Sun-Saturn aspect (exact today), we decide to let go of our old agendas, old goals, and choose to move into another direction, as alluded to in my daily horoscope. Sometimes we reposition ourselves after seeing the inevitable “writing on the walls.” For instance, this morning, the 137-year old Kodak Corporation, also filed for bankruptcy protection after fiscally struggling for the past several years.

Astrology April 6, 2011: “A Time To Grow” Sun conjunct Jupiter in Aries

COSMIC WEATHER:

“If we’re growing, we’re always going to be out of our comfort zone.” John Maxwell

“Expansion” is the keyword for us today, as the powerhouse Sun annually conjoins Jupiter (10:41 am EDT), the largest planet in our solar system associated with”growth and opportunity.” With Sun-Jupiter, we tend to “think big.” We also are more inclined to look at the “bigger picture.” Psychologically, we don’t want to be confined or hemmed in any way now. We also tend to have more faith that things will “work out,” as long as we hold on to the dream.

Astrology refers to Jupiter as the “planet of luck” or “abundance.” It does, too, often seem to correlate with prosperity or an “easing” of circumstances. Traditionally, Jupiter has been described as having a more “protective” quality to it. Jupiter is also linked with faith, optimism (“can do spirit”), and our own sense of humor. Too, a case could be made that when we are more optimistic and positive (Jupiter), we often attract more positive things to us i.e. the “law of attraction.”

So, with Sun-Jupiter today, we should do things that help to broaden our scope of influence and make us feel that we are growing versus stagnating. It’s definitely a time to “get out of our comfort zone” (referring to the John Maxwell quote above) and do something “grand.” (Jupiter). This Sun-Jupiter conjunction is also occurring in “initiating” Aries, the adventurous sign of “new beginnings.”

Fascinatingly, a quick peak back into history also shows that the very last time the Sun and Jupiter had their meetup in pioneering Aries, “Nunavut,” an Inuit homeland, was created from the eastern portion of the Northwest Territories to become Canada’s third territory (April 1, 1999). So, Canada literally “grew” in scope with Sun conjunct Jupiter. Isn’t that cool? Also back on that date, both the Sun and Jupiter were exactly trine to transforming Pluto in visionary Sagittarius (ruled by Jupiter), which was also a good time to symbolically “restructure” (Pluto) things.

The “shadow side” of Sun-Jupiter: We need to be careful that we are not too wasteful or extravagant with our resources. That we don’t “over-commit” or “over-promise.” We also need to guard against “over-indulgence.”

Some famous people born with Sun conjunct Jupiter: Mick Jagger, Woody Allen, Garth Brooks, and Anais Nin.

COSMIC WEATHER:

“In all things, it is better to hope than despair.” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Of course, with so much sadness and tragedy going on in the world around us now, it is much harder for many of us to feel very hopeful. Too, our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Japan. They have already gone through so much.

Ironically, we have mental Mercury, ruler of our thoughts, exactly aligned with optimistic, philosophical Jupiter (9:27 pm EDT) today. Mercury conjunct Jupiter is all about “keeping hope alive” and imagining wondrous possibilities, even when things seems bleak. With expansive Jupiter, we naturally tend to focus on the “bigger picture.” We attempt to connect all the dots.

The Moon also shifts from sensitive Cancer to self-expressive Leo (3:34 pm EDT), forming a powerful trine to electrifying change-agent Uranus in Aries (3:56 pm EST). Moon-Uranus could elevate our emotions and also our self-esteem (Aries). Maybe it will also bring about some positive, sudden breakthroughs (Uranus) or even miracles for those in need.

“As long as you are going to be thinking anyway, think big.” Donald Trump

Cosmic Word Of The Day: Colossal

(Sun square Jupiter)

Colossal: 1) extraordinarily great in size, extent, or degree; gigantic; huge 2) of or resembling a colossus

Big, big day on tap due to the illuminating Sun’s gargantuan meet-up with colossal Jupiter via the potent square aspect. Also, for part of the day, we are still enjoying an enthusiastic, “over-the-top” Aries Moon.

What all this means in plain English: Our towering magnificence knows no boundaries. We are able to “leap tall buildings in a single bound.” Plus, we don’t even need to don a Superman costume to do any of the leaping. We can leap au naturale, without any props, across vast distances, across countless galaxies. It’s all because we’re thinking and believing big, baby. Big, big, big!  Nothing tiny about us at all today. No tortuous, nit-picky Saturn to contend with like yesterday. The old fart is completely out of the picture. Leaving us with the juicy freedom to think “big picture,” “big ideas,” “big spending,” “big hair,” “big feet,” “big dates” with “big fish.” And on and on and on.

Maybe we are reined in by gravity a little bit, however, when the Moon enters practical, moneybags Taurus (1:49 pm EST) and starts getting nervous that we are thinking about investing our life savings in a “get-rich quick scheme” involving tickets for tonight’s big lotto drawing. Guess the moral of the day is: Dream big, but hold onto the cash! Also, we would probably be wise to wait a few days to implement our grandiose, “Jupiterian” visions.

Space is big. You just won’t believe how vastly, hugely, mind-boggling big it is. I mean, you may think it’s a long way down the road to the drug store, but that’s just peanuts to space.” Douglas Adams

Patricia’s Astrology Horoscope November 8, 2010: Yes We Can

COSMIC WEATHER:

The Emotional Moon continues in “Big Picture” Sagittarius, along with Pioneering Mars. Mental Mercury also joins the proselytizing pair there today, leaving guarded Scorpio (6:43 pm EST). With the Moon, Mars, and Mercury all installed in Sagittarius, we have an enthusiastic trio of, “Yes we can!” energy at our disposal.

Also, later on in the day, the Moon forms a square aspect to Optimistic Jupiter (9:04 pm EST), the ruler of Sagittarius, at which time we should pretty much be able to “walk on water.”

Sagittarius, the Archer, is a very futuristic, positive, and goal-oriented sign known for its broad vision.  The keywords for it are: “I inspire.”

One big drawback, though, to the “Eye on the distant horizon” Sagittarius energy is that it tends to “gloss over details.” And we all know that “The Devil” is ready to pounce on us, whenever we “screw up” or “get careless” with the details. So we need to make sure today that we also enlist the support of the Shrewd, Investigative Scorpio Sun before we “get in over our head.”

Activities highlighted today: Preaching, teaching, academic matters, writing, publishing, speaking, sales, cold-calling, social networking, traveling.

Quote for Today:

“If you only do what you know you can do – you never do very much.” Tom Krause

This Day in History:

On November 8, 1989, Douglas Wilder is elected the first black U.S. governor (Virginia).  Also, on that same date, David Dinkins is elected the first black mayor of New York city.

On that day, the Sun, Mercury, and Pluto are all exactly conjunct in “Transforming” Scorpio, the sign which Pluto rules. So we had like a “double-whammy” of major “renovating-type” energy.

Normally, when the Sun, which signifies power and leadership issues, conjoins “Controlling” Pluto, matters of dominance and control naturally come to the forefront. Intellectual Mercury’s inclusion here also suggests that our “mental consciousness” of the day was “more predisposed” towards embracing the idea of “a new order.” (Scorpio)

“Trailblazing” Mars was also at 2 degrees of Scorpio and exactly sextile to “Equality Ruling” Uranus, the electrifying “planet of change,”  at 2 degrees of Capricorn, the sign that “rules government.” “Energizer” Mars always tends to “fire us up,” and aligned with “Out of the Box” Uranus, we were much more likely to want to embark down “new” or “non-traditional” paths then, and also more interested in seeing that others also be granted “equal rights” or “equal input” (Uranus) in the hierarchy of government (Capricorn).
