Cosmic Weather:

“It is quality rather than quantity that matters.” Seneca

In a culture that is often obsessed with having more, more, more, it can sometimes be very challenging or uncomfortable for us to wrap our arms around the idea of less, less, less! Even though we may, conceivably, be forfeiting quality for quantity, in the process. But today, buckaroos, this may not exactly be the case because material girl Venus in sensual, bullish Taurus is forming a flowing trine to lean and mean Saturn (11:26 am), which is retrograde in utilitarian, pro-business mentality Capricorn. Meaning, or suggesting, Venus is more receptive now to ‘doing more with less’ if traveling lighter helps to solidify her queenly position on the throne of the highly coveted mountaintop in her particular locale. Yes, “giving up to move up!” could well be our noble battle cry for today.

Overall, Venus-Saturn energy tends to make us more cautious, reliable, and responsible in monetary matters as well as affairs of the heart. We are more value-minded or value-driven and thinking more in terms of longevity and endurability, instead of being appeased by quick fixes. It could also be that we derive more personal fulfillment or enjoyment now from immersion into our work/duties/craft/art. Too, because Saturn is retrograde, it’s possible that we are re-visiting or returning to something perceived to be more anchoring from the past now – may be a former relationship or a prior financial situation/scenario – with shining hopes, that by doing so, we will be creating more of a sense of security or stability for ourselves, in our present-day world. We also may be able to recognize or spot, now, the value, or the gift of something from our past/past experiences that we maybe did not fully appreciate or understand, until today. Thinking here, too, this could possibly relate to some previous advice or mentoring from someone we looked up to/or maybe still look up to (a Saturnian authority figure/parental figure).

Later this evening, intellectual Mercury in Gemini is also forming an awkward quinqunx aspect to obsessive, investigative Pluto, retrograde in Capricorn (11:13 pm), which could orient us to becoming more mentally fixated on certain events of our past, especially on those things which, perhaps, have never really been resolved or settled fully to our satisfaction. Although, ruminating upon those sorts of things now could also be a bit tricky or problematic, in terms of being able to positively add to our sense of well-being, as it may be harder for us to put a more objective or neutral face or spin on things now. This is partly because Mercury-Pluto energy tends to want to hone in on whatever is broken, taboo, or forbidden instead of on what is right and/or working in our lives. In other words, there is often more of a suspicious vibe at play when these two cosmic characters pair up.

Today’s Astrology May 21, 2019: Sun and Mercury Enter Gemini

Cosmic Weather:

“When the trust account is high, communication is easy, instant, and effective.” Stephen R. Covey

Both the Sun (will) and Mercury (thinking) leave slow-moving, plodding Taurus, this morning, and enter breezy, cerebral Gemini, the communication sign, and the sign of the Twins. This sign is also ruled by Mercury so the ‘Winged Messenger’ feels right at home here.

For the next few weeks, with the Sun and Mercury in Gemini, we get to passionately, and independently, channel our inner reporter and astutely relay all the news/gossip/goings-on in our neck of the woods – whether it’s fit to print or not! 🙂

Gemini relishes making observations, drawing comparisons, taking notes, gathering/imparting/receiving information. It’s very social energy, yet emotionally detached, at the same time, which might be a very good thing now since assertive Mars is moving through feelings-oriented, reactive Cancer. The Gemini vibe here sort of balancing out the Cancer moodiness, self-protectiveness. Too, with both the Sun and Mercury deposited in articulate Gemini, there’s a better chance for us to be able to outwardly voice/write/express what’s going on inside of us, on an emotional level.

Meanwhile, Gemini also rules transportation and travel (especially trips of shorter duration), so we may find ourselves being a lot more mobile, over the next month or so. It might also be a time when we may think about getting a new car or be attending to vehicle-related matters.

Additionally today, the Sun and Mercury are in superior conjunction at 0 degrees of Gemini (9:06 am). A superior conjunction is the equivalent, so to speak, of a Full Moon, which means there’s an increased likelihood that we could experience sudden moments/flashes of greater clarity/brilliance now, including receiving answers/solutions to problems, or come across information/teachings/the right questions that greatly expand/fuel our awareness. We may also be more effective at communicating our thoughts and ideas now.

Famous May 21 Birthdays: Raymond Burr, Andrei Sakharov, Al Franken, Mr. T

“Intellectual freedom is essential — freedom to obtain and distribute information, freedom for open-minded and unfearing debate and freedom from pressure by officialdom and prejudices.” Andrei Sakharov

On This Day in History: On May 21, 1881, the American Red Cross is founded by Clara Barton, a pioneering nurse and humanitarian.

The Astrology that day: The Moon was in sympathetic/empathic Pisces, the sign of self-sacrifice and service to others. There was also a stellium of five planets and Chiron in anchoring, earthy Taurus, the sign in which our intentions are made manifest, including Venus (love) and Saturn (duty and responsibility), which were exactly conjunct in Taurus at 5 degrees; Jupiter (goodwill ambassador, philanthropist) was also at 9 degrees of Taurus and exactly trining Uranus (humanitarian, innovator) in healing Virgo.

“I have an almost complete disregard of precedent and a faith in the possibility of something better. It irritates me to be told how things always have been done… I defy the tyranny of precedent. I cannot afford the luxury of a closed mind. I go for anything new that might improve the past.” Clara Barton

Hope you enjoy your Tuesday!

Cosmic Weather:

“The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease forever to be able to do it.” J.M. Barrie

We kick off the work week laden with a fair measure of wanderlust in our sneakers with the waning Moon in “let me gallop alone in the rat race” Sagittarius.

The Moon makes an early morning square to “beam me up” Neptune in transcendental Pisces (6:31 am). Then around lunchtime (1:04 pm), Luna merges with oversizing Jupiter (potentially a headache for the kitchen staff as all the offerings at the buffet bar, no doubt, will suddenly disappear).

Anyway, this theme of excess, pretty much pervades the rest of the day, as self-indulgent Venus in throaty Taurus also forms a sesquiquadrate aspect (11:19 pm) to jolly Jupiter. Of course, this day can also have a lot of positivity to it as Venus-Jupiter together can make us feel more optimistic and playful.

The Moon also goes VOC after its midday conjunction with Jupiter so it’s best to put the finishing touches on your magnifico creations instead of birthing anything new. The Nightime Goddess enters lean, mean Capricorn, early tomorrow morning (3:56 am), when it will be time, again, to crack the whip!

The Sun is also spending its last full day in builder/banker Taurus today, for the year, so there could be a final push to “get ‘er done,” especially good for attending to stuff that will make us feel more anchored in the world.

Today’s Astrology May 18, 2019: Full Moon in Mysterious Scorpio

Cosmic Weather:

“Every single cell in the human body replaces itself over a period of seven years. That means there’s not even the smallest part of you now that was part of you seven years ago.” Steven Hall

It is a perplexing mystery how we often feel that we are basically the same person, day after day. Yet, in reality, for all practical purposes, we are in a continuous state of death and renewal while we are breathing, hanging out on the earth plane. At least, this is the case from the standpoint of our physical being. On the other hand, it is the persistent sense of our own seemingly unchanging ‘inner essence’ which most likely provides us with the notion we are more of an immutable force to be reckoned with! But even then, the idea of an enduring ‘inner essence’ is also a bit weird and baffling, when you think about it, because how does this ‘inner essence’ manage to keep itself glued together, in one piece, to begin with, when everything around it keeps wanting to turn into mush and or wither away? Maybe even more importantly, how does it manage to keep its hair perfectly coiffed, in all instances? That is the real 64-thousand dollar question! 🙂

Anyway… Today’s Full Moon in ‘life and death’ Scorpio, at 27 degrees of the sign, seemingly invites us to humbly bask in the full awareness of the infinite, deeper mysteries of life that perennially surround us, engulf us, maybe even haunt us, at times. So many things can potentially ‘spook us out’ on a daily basis, if we let them, especially in this age of 24/7 news coverage. Although, with the Full Moon in investigative Scorpio it could be that we possess the proper amount of emotional fortitude, unflappable courage, and perceptual curiosity now to want to willingly visit those dicey places/areas/dramas that tend to otherwise make us want to naturally recoil out of fear or trepidation. It is like we know now that we must move through, or go beyond, all the scary stuff to get to the ‘other side.’ The seemingly ‘safe side’ where all the monsters are benevolently slewed, our spouses are fairly subdued and obedient – for the most part – and all is right (healed) with the world! At least, for a little while. Till the next domino falls…

Scorpio is also the sign in which we take the trash or garbage out, both literally and symbolically. In the body, it is associated with the rectum and bladder, the two workhorses of elimination. What goes in (Sun in Taurus), must come out (Moon in Scorpio), at the risk of sounding crude. Interesting, too, isn’t it, how there is often so much shame, embarrassment, including yes, even mystery, associated with this particular, and much-needed body function. So hopefully Luna now, deposited in her full-figure form in seductive Scorpio, the premier snakeskin shedding energy, will inspire those of us, who are so inclined, to pitch/purge/recycle whatever is redundant/outworn in our lives, in order to make room for the new/nurturing/tantalizing ingredients that will, ideally, keep us standing upright and moving vigorously forward, a while longer.

As luck would have it, too, the passionate, intense Scorpio Moon is also occurring on the same day that lovable Venus is conjunct wild and wacky Uranus in hedonistic Taurus, an astrologically rebellious/liberating influence that poises us/tempts us to want to temporarily break with convention/tradition/our mates in order to pursue out of the ordinary worldly pleasures/values. To decadently indulge in new sensations/social/romantic experiences that likely move us outside of our rigid/stuffy comfort zones and straight into the dog house!

Thinker and orator Mercury is also exactly trining insightful, dark horse Pluto today, Scorpio’s modern-day ruler. So we are also possibly able to seduce/influence/persuade others now with our power thoughts, ideas, and spoken/written words in a non-threatening, yet formidable manner. This is also an excellent intellectual aspect for solving puzzles, riddles.

“I always dream of a pen that would be a syringe.” Jacques Derrida

On This Day in History: On May 18, 1897 “Dracula” by Irish author Bram Stoker is published by Archibald Constable and Company in London.

The astrology that day: The illuminating Sun in sensual, neck-ruling Taurus was exactly opposite maverick Uranus and authoritative Saturn. Both of these planets were also exactly conjunct in ‘mistress/master of the night’ Scorpio!

Famous May 18 Birthdays: Bertrand Russell, Frank Capra, Pope John Paul II, Reggie Jackson, Tina Fey

““My ability to turn good news into anxiety is rivaled only by my ability to turn anxiety into chin acne.” Tina Fey

Happy Full Moon Blessings!

Cosmic Weather:

“He who thinks little errs much…” Leonardo da Vinci

Thinker Mercury in practical Taurus is forming an awkward aspect (quinqunx) to philosophical Jupiter (retrograde) in enthusiastic Sagittarius today (5:48 pm EDT) so there may be a tendency to gloss over pivotal details in a bid to view things from a larger, big-picture lens. While this aspect can help put us in touch with our revered hopes or dreams for the future, we are also potentially more likely to discount or override good old-fashioned common-sense now. Since Jupiter is also retrograde, it could be that we are revisiting a tantalizing situation from the past now. Still trying to ‘bring it down from the clouds.’ However, it’s probably not going to be happening, just yet, again, as, more than likely, more flesh still needs to be applied to the demanding Saturnian bones for this delicate thing to fly on its own. A good question, maybe, to ask ourselves today, is, “What am I not seeing here that could be a game changer?”

Famous May 17 Birthdays: Dennis Hopper, Sugar Ray Leonard

On This Day in History: On May 17, 1900, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” is first published by L. Frank Baum with illustrations by William Wallace Denslow in Chicago. The astrology that day: Jupiter, Uranus, and the North Node were conjunct in story-telling Sagittarius and initiating Mars had just entered 0 degrees of manifesting Taurus. Communicator Mercury was also in Taurus and separating from a sextile to artistic Venus in “there’s no place like home” Cancer.
