Cosmic Weather:

“Just as a snake sheds its skin, we must shed our past over and over again.” Gautama Buddha

Mental Mercury stations retrograde in Cancer at 14 degrees (at 12:59 am): The winged messenger is now the fifth planet currently retrograde, with the other four being Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto. Generally, retrograde motion signifies a time when we review or reassess the past. Too, with so many planets in apparent backward motion now, it may be harder for us to move forward.

With intellectual Mercury Rx in protective, nesting Cancer, we are likely re-thinking/re-framing issues centering around the home and family (including our ancestral or historic past), safety and security, patriotism/nationalism, and self-care or nurturing. Ideally, Mercury’s Rx cycle will generate deep insights for us, particularly on more of a gut-level. Mercury will remain retrograde until July 12th.

Mars in Pisces sextile Pluto Rx in Capricorn (at 7:08 pm): This can symbolize the arrival or deployment of reforms or strategies or approaches that can help to positively transform or turn our world around. We may also feel more empowered to pursue our dreams or ideals with more intensity.

(The last time we had Mars in Pisces exactly sextile Pluto in Capricorn was December 17th-18th of 2018. Some highlights back then: Elon Musk opened the 1.6km-long Boring Test (Pluto-ruled) Tunnel in Hawthorne, California, which is designed to demonstrate technology that will transport cars at high speeds below the city; Astronomers also announced the discovery of trans-Neptunian object 2018-VG, the most distant object in the Solar System ever observed; The U.S. Department of Justice also issued a final regulation banning the use of bump stocks, which allow semi-automatic (Mars-ruled) rifles to be fired at a rate similar to that of automatic weapons and became infamous following the 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting. – From Wikipedia)

Born On This Day: Beatle Paul McCartney. He’s turning 78!

“I am the eternal optimist. No
matter how rough it gets, there’s always light somewhere. The rest of the sky may be cloudy, but that little bit of blue draws me on.” P.M.

Hope it’s a good one! Be safe and well.

Cosmic Weather:

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” Martin Luther King, Jr.

Retrograde Venus (the goddess of love, beauty, pleasure, and money) is in inferior conjunction with the Sun in Gemini today (at 1:44 pm), denoting the midpoint cycle of Venus’s current retrograde cycle as well as a symbolizing a new beginning in the Sun and Venus relationship. This conjunction also marks the transition from Venus as an evening star to a morning star.

Archetypally, sweet Venus tends to work as a harmonizer or balancer and retrograde in the communication sign of Gemini, there is potentially more promise now for soothing words or gestures to be able to work their special healing magic to fill what was perhaps an earlier void or lack of connection. This Sun-Venus alignment generally rallies us to put more energy into such things as being friendly or outgoing as the relationship realm is something that becomes much more vital or important now to who we are and how we see ourselves.

Too, with Venus retrograde, it could be that we have important new insights about the overall nature of our relationship or social or material needs as well as maybe glean a better understanding or perspective of what it is that we genuinely value or require in our lives order for us to feel truly happy or at least more emotionally content.

On another level, Sun-Venus aspects often help to generate more ease or flow in financial matters and may coincide with an increased desire to be surrounded by things of beauty, luxury, or objects of art.

The Waxing Moon is also in probing Scorpio, all day, suggesting our emotions are more intense at this time and our perceptions are potentially sharper. Often when Luna is here we are looking to become more fully engaged with or impassioned by our experiences. There can also be more ability or readiness for transformation. On a higher level, Scorpio represents a phoenix rising from the ashes.

“Scared and sacred are spelled with the same letters. Awful proceeds from the same root word as awesome. Terrify and terrific. Every negative experience holds the seed of transformation.” Alan Cohen

*All times EDT.

On This Day in History: On June 3, 1965, astronaut Edward H. White became the first American to “walk” in space during the flight of Gemini 4. White floated free outside the spacecraft, tethered to it, for approximately 20 minutes. Gemini 4 would also be the first multi-day (four-day) space flight by the United States, designed to show that it was possible for humans to remain in Outer space for extended lengths of time.  (Wikipedia)

Astrologically, that day, expansive Jupiter, the empowering Sun, and the future-oriented North Node were conjunct in mobile, environmentally-curious Gemini and all were square to breakthrough Uranus, the planetary ruler of space travel and technology. Revolutionizing Uranus was also conjunct transformational Pluto in perfecting Virgo, the zodiacal sign which is associated with tangibly improving our skill set or expertise.

Hope it’s a good one! Be safe and well.

Cosmic Weather:

“The world is full of magical things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” W. B. Yeats

Today is a great time to go deeper with our thinking as intellectual Mercury forms a harmonious, waxing trine to investigative Pluto Rx (at 9:17 am), an aspect that naturally poises us to trek below the surface to get to the core of a matter or to uncover what may be buried or hidden in the depths. It’s also kind of like we may sense in our gut now that there’s more to something than what’s being presented. With Mercury also deposited in grounded Taurus we are likely more apt to come away now with some practical insights or ideas that are very useful for our daily lives, especially if we do decide to do a little poking around. Also, reflecting on what it is that we really value (Taurus) might be very instructive for us now, especially in possibly helping to order or re-order our priorities or maybe in determining how we should be spending our time or investing our resources.

Another thing to possibly muse about now: It was on January 12th of this year that Saturn and Pluto were exactly conjunct in Capricorn (an aspect that was also a long time in the making). Also in the mix then was messenger Mercury, which individually conjuncted both Saturn and Pluto, shortly beforehand, that day. It could be that today’s Mercury-Pluto trine aspect imparts some follow-up news or messages or offers up a few valuable insights or takeaways pertaining to that period.

Some famous people born with Mercury trine Pluto: Carrie Underwood, Elizabeth Montgomery, Johnny Carson, Jerry Seinfeld, Flip Wilson, Stephen Spielberg.

Cosmic Weather:

“When you compare the sorrows of real-life to the pleasures of the imaginary one, you will never want to live again, only to dream forever.” Alexandre Dumas

Today has undertones of being at a Grand Masquerade Ball, in some ways, as social, romantic Venus (soon-to-be-retrograde) forms a waxing square to fantasy Neptune (11:52 pm). This more daydreamy aspect can, among other things, sometimes make it more challenging to see other people as they are partly because we seem to have more of a real need or desire now to want to place halos above nearly everybody’s head. Neptune is the higher octave of Venus and it’s associated with Divine Love or unconditional love or a boundary-less type of love that many of us may wish to sincerely experience in our hearts. This is why we can potentially be so vulnerable now: It’s like we don’t want that sacred veil to be pierced, at the moment, and then possibly face the chance of being starkly disillusioned by the underlying, harsher reality. Accordingly, any relationships, especially romantic ones, that begin under this aspect would most likely benefit from giving them a period of time to gel so we can see how they play out over the long haul.

Because Venus also governs money, possessions, and how we derive pleasure, in general, we may also want to refrain from going overboard with things, particularly acquisitions, until we are more sure of what our true needs and desires are. Often what seems so glamorous to us, on the surface, with Venus-Neptune, proves otherwise later. On another level, Venus-Neptune energy can be extremely creative as it poises us to go deeper into the waters of our fertile imaginations. Many artists and musicians have Venus-Neptune aspects prominent in their personal charts.

Today’s Venus-Neptune square is the first of three squares, the other two will be taking place on May 20th and July 27th. Venus goes retrograde on May 13th.

Meanwhile, Waxing Luna remains ensconced in verifying Virgo all day, no doubt a good, overall counter or balance to the “I just wanna be swept off my feet” Venus-Neptune influence. Although, even the skeptical Virgo Moon is under some pressure this morning as she also forms a bewildering opposition to blurry-eyed Neptune (at 11:22 am). Fortunately, later on, however, Luna will be regaining her footing, quite a bit, when she forms flowing trines to transformational Pluto (at 7:01 pm) and big picture Jupiter (at 10:25 pm), both still conjunct in “keeping-it-real” Capricorn. Ideally, these two more hopeful aspects will provide us with a practical ability to see or plot futuristic trends, especially with respect to more large-scale issues. Moon-Pluto, in particular, can also be very healing energy and one that allows us to not only, individually and collectively, let go of the past, but also greatly learn from it, as well as being simultaneously positively reshaped by what we may have experienced. On another level, the Moon-Pluto energy can also sometimes help us to locate something that has been lost or perhaps hidden from view.

Cosmic Weather:

“Sometimes I think I need a spare heart to feel all the things I feel.” Sanober Khan

Luna, still in her Waxing phase in protective Cancer, forms an opposition to both transformative Pluto (at 12:01 pm) and abundant Jupiter (at 3:29 pm) today. Both of these planets have been in conjunction with each other since early April.

The more intense Moon-Pluto aspect often allows us to experience our raw emotion, including sampling what has perhaps been buried deep inside the caverns of our subconscious. Accordingly, this is a great time for journaling or psychotherapy as penetrating new insights may bubble up into our conscious awareness potentially having a healing or regenerative impact upon us. On another level, this aspect can also predispose us to want to take more control of various elements in our life, including possibly desiring to purge or phase things out of it that are no longer working. In some instances, we may need to fix, repair, or salvage situations.

Meanwhile, the Moon’s opposition to philosophical Jupiter tends to make us feel more buoyant and optimistic as well as generous and altruistic. It’s excellent for teaching or learning new things. It’s also a positive time for dealing with more large-scale issues or for collaborating with foreign entities.

Luna will also shift into dramatic Leo, later tonight (9:06 pm), and form a First Quarter Square to the Sun in Taurus, tomorrow afternoon. Too, intellectual Mercury is having its annual conjunction with innovative, breakthrough Uranus, tomorrow.

Born On This Day: American Country Singer Willie Nelson (On The Road Again). Nelson, who was born in Abbott, Texas, is turning 87 today!

“I don’t believe in adhering to any rules I don’t support and I didn’t vote for. To hell with what people think. Just be who you are and you’ll be happy.” W.N.

Cosmic Weather:

Even though it’s the weekend, we may still want to challenge ourselves to do a bit of heavy “mental lifting” today as we have the nurturing Moon now eruditely scurrying through curious Gemini (at 3:20 am) and Gemini’s ruler, intellectual Mercury, exactly squaring off with probing, investigative Pluto (at 3:36 am). This more intense, often obsessive Mercury-Pluto energy is especially good for detecting or ferreting out secret information/covert messages, exposing hidden weaknesses, or possibly uncovering hidden motivations. On the flip side, it could also raise awareness of privacy concerns. This astrological aspect is also sometimes linked with jaw-dropping, shocking plot twists.

Communicator Mercury also governs our speech or words and paired with riveting Pluto now our words may carry more dramatic impact or have an extra bite or zing to them. We may also be much more emotionally reactive now with respect to what we see, hear, or read, especially if we perhaps find the subject matter repugnant or repulsive or taboo, to some degree, which this type of cosmic energy also often seems to elicit. More extremist viewpoints may also capture our attention, at this time, or be put before us in the spotlight in some manner. Also, on the shadow side, there can be more of a tendency towards bullying, ridiculing, or jockeying for power or position, including possibly manipulating information as an attempt to further or strengthen our own self-interests.

“Until you realize how easy it is for your mind to be manipulated, you remain the puppet of someone else’s game.” Evita Ochel

Too, Pluto is associated with purging or removing whatever is outworn or expired and aligned with mental Mercury it could be that this is an excellent time to undertake efforts to rid or eradicate our psyches of some of what we might call “garbage-type thoughts” (our debilitating fears or miscellaneous prejudices, for instance) that all too often clutter or detract from our more wondrous sense of spirit or well-being or interfere with our ability for connectedness with others. Mercury-Pluto aspects are commonly linked with seeking psychotherapy or otherwise wanting to heal or fix what’s seemingly broken inside of us or around us.

Pluto is also stationing retrograde today (at 2:54 pm) suggesting that we are now subtly shifting our focus or attention away from the more concrete manifestations of outer transformation to the invisible realm of inner transformation, including presumably beginning to more seriously process or decode now the philosophical meaning or psychological impact of what has perhaps recently been drastically altered or reconfigured in our lives. Too, it’s always the deeper meaning that we assign to things that ultimately determine their lasting impact upon us. On another level, Pluto stationing retrograde may indicate a pullback of power or support. Pluto will stay retrograde until October 4.

“I take pleasure in my transformations. I look quiet and consistent, but few know how many women there are in me.” Anais Nin

Cosmic Weather:

The organizing Virgo Moon seems extra eager to help get our Monday morning off to a productive start today via a flowing trine to the potent Jupiter-Pluto conjunction in industrious Capricorn. Ideally, this harmonious aspect can inspire us to feel more hopeful, more confident (Jupiter) in our ability to turn things around (Pluto) in a tangible/measurable way (Capricorn). Also, with this aspect, there may be an opportunity to identify or locate valuable hidden resources that can somehow aid or further our cause.

Later this afternoon, Luna will leave Virgo for balancing Libra (at 5:16 pm), on route to her Full Phase, tomorrow.

daily astrology, Mars square Pluto, self-growth, transformation

Cosmic Weather:

(Mars in Libra squares Pluto in Capricorn at 20 degrees, at 5:27 am)

This is a very potent and dynamic day! Mars (governing our drive, ambition, and determination) is squaring off with Pluto (representing our urge for power, transformation, and hidden motivations). Often when these two heavyweights are paired, we find that the landscape around us has a chance of being reshaped or reconfigured in a dramatic way, depending, in large part, upon the actions we choose to undertake, our will, and level of conscious awareness.

Generally, Mars-Pluto energy tends to make us much more unrelenting or uncompromising in the pursuit of our wants, needs, and desires. At the same time, our behavior can also become a bit more complicated because we are likely more impacted or fueled now by our hidden or subconscious motivations. (On the shadow side, Mars-Pluto is associated with, among other things, extreme behavior, outbursts of anger, bullying, manipulation, and power struggles.)

So, ideally, what we want to do now is to act from a higher place, inside ourselves. Keep our long-term goals and vision for ourselves, front and center. Focus on mindfully taking key actions that help to foster or facilitate self-growth, self-improvement, and or self-mastery (qualities, in keeping, with the Scorpio season). Avoid trying to control or blame others and, instead, put our energy on self-responsibility and personal accountability.

Too, engaging in physical activities or exercise is often a great way to express and release the more intense buildup of the Mars-Pluto energy in the body.

Additionally, it can be a very good time to vent or clear the air (Mars) as a way of rebalancing situations (Libra). The trick here, however, is to do it in a way that doesn’t manipulate or intimidate (Pluto), which could only serve to complicate matters.

Cosmic Weather:

“Every single cell in the human body replaces itself over a period of seven years. That means there’s not even the smallest part of you now that was part of you seven years ago.” Steven Hall

It is a perplexing mystery how we often feel that we are basically the same person, day after day. Yet, in reality, for all practical purposes, we are in a continuous state of death and renewal while we are breathing, hanging out on the earth plane. At least, this is the case from the standpoint of our physical being. On the other hand, it is the persistent sense of our own seemingly unchanging ‘inner essence’ which most likely provides us with the notion we are more of an immutable force to be reckoned with! But even then, the idea of an enduring ‘inner essence’ is also a bit weird and baffling, when you think about it, because how does this ‘inner essence’ manage to keep itself glued together, in one piece, to begin with, when everything around it keeps wanting to turn into mush and or wither away? Maybe even more importantly, how does it manage to keep its hair perfectly coiffed, in all instances? That is the real 64-thousand dollar question! 🙂

Anyway… Today’s Full Moon in ‘life and death’ Scorpio, at 27 degrees of the sign, seemingly invites us to humbly bask in the full awareness of the infinite, deeper mysteries of life that perennially surround us, engulf us, maybe even haunt us, at times. So many things can potentially ‘spook us out’ on a daily basis, if we let them, especially in this age of 24/7 news coverage. Although, with the Full Moon in investigative Scorpio it could be that we possess the proper amount of emotional fortitude, unflappable courage, and perceptual curiosity now to want to willingly visit those dicey places/areas/dramas that tend to otherwise make us want to naturally recoil out of fear or trepidation. It is like we know now that we must move through, or go beyond, all the scary stuff to get to the ‘other side.’ The seemingly ‘safe side’ where all the monsters are benevolently slewed, our spouses are fairly subdued and obedient – for the most part – and all is right (healed) with the world! At least, for a little while. Till the next domino falls…

Scorpio is also the sign in which we take the trash or garbage out, both literally and symbolically. In the body, it is associated with the rectum and bladder, the two workhorses of elimination. What goes in (Sun in Taurus), must come out (Moon in Scorpio), at the risk of sounding crude. Interesting, too, isn’t it, how there is often so much shame, embarrassment, including yes, even mystery, associated with this particular, and much-needed body function. So hopefully Luna now, deposited in her full-figure form in seductive Scorpio, the premier snakeskin shedding energy, will inspire those of us, who are so inclined, to pitch/purge/recycle whatever is redundant/outworn in our lives, in order to make room for the new/nurturing/tantalizing ingredients that will, ideally, keep us standing upright and moving vigorously forward, a while longer.

As luck would have it, too, the passionate, intense Scorpio Moon is also occurring on the same day that lovable Venus is conjunct wild and wacky Uranus in hedonistic Taurus, an astrologically rebellious/liberating influence that poises us/tempts us to want to temporarily break with convention/tradition/our mates in order to pursue out of the ordinary worldly pleasures/values. To decadently indulge in new sensations/social/romantic experiences that likely move us outside of our rigid/stuffy comfort zones and straight into the dog house!

Thinker and orator Mercury is also exactly trining insightful, dark horse Pluto today, Scorpio’s modern-day ruler. So we are also possibly able to seduce/influence/persuade others now with our power thoughts, ideas, and spoken/written words in a non-threatening, yet formidable manner. This is also an excellent intellectual aspect for solving puzzles, riddles.

“I always dream of a pen that would be a syringe.” Jacques Derrida

On This Day in History: On May 18, 1897 “Dracula” by Irish author Bram Stoker is published by Archibald Constable and Company in London.

The astrology that day: The illuminating Sun in sensual, neck-ruling Taurus was exactly opposite maverick Uranus and authoritative Saturn. Both of these planets were also exactly conjunct in ‘mistress/master of the night’ Scorpio!

Cosmic Weather:

“Some people believe holding on and hanging in there are signs of great strength. However, there are times when it takes much more strength to know when to let go and then do it.” Ann Landers

We live in a culture in which ‘having more’ is often automatically deemed better than ‘having less.’ So virtually anytime there’s a perceived chance that what we have or possess is thought to be at possible risk of loss our immediate response is normally to do whatever it takes to keep what we have firmly in our clutches. No matter that what we might be clinging to may be long expired!

That’s why, perhaps, in a left-handed way, we should maybe all be kind of ‘jumping for joy’ today because Pluto, the planet of exit doors and elimination, is stationing retrograde at 23 degrees of utilitarian Capricorn (2:45 pm). Whenever a planet stations, its energy is thought to be more potent that day. Meaning, we could possibly be getting clearer signs now of what should be pitched or trashed in our lives, for our own good.

Okay, in some cases, we may be able to get clearance to perform salvage operations or just do some creative refurbishing/reworking of existing elements and call it a day. In other words, not have to go through the heartbreak of experiencing a total wipeout or implosion! 🙂 Pluto is, after all, also a great ‘turnaround genius’ or ‘re-birthing agent.’

Too, on another level, it may be worthwhile or interesting now to simply study or observe the vast trail of waste that we are characteristically generating/leaving behind. What might that cryptic wagon train say or reveal about us? About how we are maybe managing/mismanaging our daily operations/resources? Where we may also possibly be overextended, as Pluto governs debt and indebtedness.

Transformational Pluto will be retrograde in Capricorn until October 3, when it will be turning direct at 20 degrees of the sign. Since Capricorn is also the sign that specifically governs career, government, and big business, there’s a chance now, and for the next few months, that we’ll be experiencing a type of ‘crisis of consciousness’ in those areas in particular. Perhaps becoming more aware of the ‘bugs in the systems’ that we’ve built – and what to do about them.

“In the oddity or maybe the miracle of life, the roots of something new frequently lie in the decaying husks of something old.” Craig D. Lounsbrough

Famous April 24 Birthdays: Vincent De Paul, Shirley MacLaine, Jill Ireland, Barbra Streisand, Kelly Clarkson

“I arrived in Hollywood without having my nose fixed, my teeth capped, or my name changed. That is very gratifying to me.” Barbra Streisand

On This Day in History: On April 24, 1888, Eastman Kodak was founded by George Eastman. Astrologically, at the time, the planet Neptune, which rules photography, was nearing 29 degrees of artistic, yet financially-minded Taurus, a critical degree. Often when a planet is at 29 degrees, there’s an extra push or urgency to get things done. There’s also a summation, of sorts, of what has gone before while the planet has been in the sign.

Neptune was also forming a waxing, one-degree sextile to consolidating, organizing Saturn, newly-installed at 0 degrees of Leo, the sign of entertainment and the motion picture industry.

Lest we forget, we also currently have an ongoing sextile now, this year, between Saturn in Capricorn and Neptune in Pisces. This influence is also thought to be very good for creativity and realizing our dreams, with structuring Saturn providing a floor or foundation for Neptune’s bountiful imagination and visions.

Hope you enjoy your Wednesday!
