“Tell me what you pay attention to and I will tell you who you are.” Jose Ortega y Gasset

Cosmic Weather:

There is a New Moon in deliberate Taurus the Bull this morning (8:16 am EDT), the first of the earth signs. Venus-ruled Taurus governs money, possessions, values, and the things we love. The practical Taurus New Moon helps us to formulate some realistic plans for ourselves, over the course of the next month. It is also excellent energy for helping us to slow down the pace of our lives and be in the moment, which is something that we are learning more and more is foundational to achieving and preserving good health.

It is also a perfect time to really think about, and become more clear about, what it is that we value, and why. Our values, along with our beliefs, are ultimately what help to inspire and shape our day-to-day actions, which are essentially the building blocks of our lives. Many of us are perennially seeking answers outside of ourselves, about the nature of our future, when in reality, all we really need to do is take a close look at our daily activities. See what we are routinely investing our time and energy in, and that should give us a pretty good idea as to where we are heading. Taurus, archetypally, also represents the builder.

This New Moon does form harmonious aspects with Neptune and the North Node in Virgo, potentially allowing us to more easily connect with our vision, imagination, and sense of purpose.

“If you have a strong purpose in life, you don’t have to be pushed. Your passion will drive you there.” Roy T. Bennett

Question for Today: When you are feeling “on purpose with your life,” what action(s) are you taking? What activities are you engaged in?

“Flying starts from the ground. The more grounded you are, the higher you fly.” J.R. Rim

Sun Enters Taurus: The Sun, the key principle of vital energy that signifies the conscious ego and self-directedness, shifts out of pioneering Aries into sustaining Taurus today (5:27 pm EDT), where it will hang out patiently for the next thirty days. While the Sun is deposited in earthy Taurus we anchor and narrow our range of interests and focus on making our lives more safe and secure. Venus-ruled Taurus governs money, possessions, and our values. The keywords for this sign are “I have.”

Among the things that we may want to reflect upon now is how our personal identity is often closely intertwined with what we have or own. For instance, a question that we might want to ask of ourselves is, “Who are we really, apart from all our stuff?” We may also want to consider how we characteristically manage our resources, and how that style of stewardship may be helping or hurting us.

“Flying starts from the ground. The more grounded you are, the higher you fly.” J. R. Rim

Today’s Energy:

Today’s illuminating Full Moon in “grounded” Taurus (8:05 am) is a chance for us to become more aware of what it is that we need to adhere to, or how it is that we need to be, in order to psychologically feel safer or more secure in the world. Conversely, since this is a Full Moon, there may also be insights now regarding what experiences that we may need to release or let go of, so that we will be better able to accommodate a new order, into our lives.

Venus-ruled Taurus symbolizes what we value or appreciate; or what we want to attract.  It is also in the practical experiences of this sign that we learn how to manage or care for our personal resources, including learning how to handle our money and possessions. When I think about Taurus, too, I always think of a quote by Gloria Steinem in which she says (paraphrasing her now) that “our checkbook stubs always reflect our true values.”

Also, since Taurus rules the Earth, communing with nature is perhaps an excellent way for us to feel more grounded or centered inside our bodies now. The late Scottish naturalist and author, John Muir, once said that the “clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness.” Generally, any experiences that indulge or engage our physical senses are highly favored now.

With this Taurus Full Moon, the Sun, which symbolizes our ego, is in the opposing sign of Scorpio, meaning that we are also seeking to integrate or balance other people’s values with our own now (the Scorpio experience), as well as learning how to share what we have with others.

Too, Since Taurus and Scorpio are both fixed signs, there can be more awareness of our own “inner resistance” to letting go of such things as our own stubbornness, stinginess, or possessiveness, traits which both Taurus and Scorpio archetypally represent, on the shadow side. We may also want to ponder, now, how holding onto these sorts of more grasping behaviors may be working to preserve the status quo, in our lives, instead of allowing us to move along more freely into the bigger, more fluid world of our dreams.

Instructive Saturn, in “philosophical” Sagittarius, is also quinqunx this lunation suggesting that our beliefs (Sagittarius) and values (Taurus) may need to be shifted around or reconciled in some manner.  Too, it could be, that maybe we are coming to the realization that our actual lives, in some way, do not really reflect what we say that we believe in.

On the other hand, we may discover that our beliefs, or the stories that we tell ourselves about ourselves and the nature of the world, are too self-limiting, and that they may need to be revamped because they are holding us back in various ways, including possibly even interfering with our ability to prosper or experience a sense of abundance in our lives.

Saturn also specifically represents our fears and guilt, and it could be that we are being challenged now to face some of what makes us afraid or fearful, especially with respect to our security or survival needs. We may also be learning lessons in how to be more responsible (Saturn) in the management of our resources (Taurus), so that what we have accrued, or are accruing, will be able to serve us over the long haul. Money guru Suze Orman says that the only way that we will ever take control of our financial life is to “dig deep and fix the root problem.”

Fortunately, we also have a stellium of planets in “corrective” Virgo now (Mars, Venus, and Jupiter), which can make us very resourceful in figuring out practical, common-sense solutions to our issues.

Transcendent Neptune is also sextiling this lunation, potentially empowering us with a faith in “unseen forces.” This influence can also serve to invoke our compassion, for both ourselves and others.

Venus in Virgo, the ruler of this Taurus Full Moon, is quinqunx “unconventional” Uranus in Aries, an influence that can make us seek out novel pleasures, as well as our wanting, perhaps, to have more wiggle room in relationships. This aspect could also bring up some questions regarding how we can serve others (Virgo), while still being true to ourselves (Aries). “I don’t want my life to be defined by what is etched on a tombstone. I want it to be defined by what is etched in the lives and hearts of those I’ve touched.” Steve Maraboli.

Questions for Today: How do you need to live in order to thrive? What comes up for you when you think of the word ‘money?” How would you characterize your relationship with the Earth? What have you learned about your own life by observing nature?

In the News:  Just a few hours before the Full Moon in Taurus, Congress and the White House reach a tentative budget deal (Taurus) and decide to raise the debt ceiling (Scorpio). This deal, if it’s passed, would represent a major breakthrough after years of gridlock in Congress, especially on fiscal issues. (NYtimes.com).

“If we talk to anyone, or see anyone, or even think of anyone, then we have the opportunity to bring more love into the universe.” Marianne Williamson

Heart, Dove, Silhouette, Love, Luck

Venus, the planet of love, beauty, values, and money is stationing direct today in “royal” Leo after a six week retrograde (reflection) cycle. “Venus direct” is generally perceived to be a time when we have a clearer understanding of who we want and what we want in our lives. This may be especially the case as Venus starts picking up speed, in the next couple of weeks. Too, sometimes as Venus is stationing or “shifting gears” we are still sort of adjusting to things and may not be exactly sure how to proceed, which is why it may be best to defer any decision-making about relationships, major purchases, finances, etc. for at least a few days. Venus will also be in its ‘shadow phase’ until October 9 (or retracing the zodiac degrees that were originally part of the retro cycle).

The Last Quarter Moon also enters “maternal” Cancer, this afternoon (1:40 pm), tending to heighten our emotions and sensitivity to our environment. This is also a time when we may seek to replenish our spirit by surrounding ourselves with what is warm and familiar to us.

*All times EDT.

Questions for Today: What are you willing to do to create more love in your life? What does love look like to you? What would your soul mate be like – what qualities or characteristics would he or she have?

Astrology July 3, 2014: When Saying “No” Really Means “Yes” – Pluto Aspects

astrology for july 3 2014, setting up boundaries, Sun opposite Pluto, values, Venus quinqunx Pluto

“Because after you’ve crossed some lines, you just keep crossing them.” Chuck Palahnuik

COSMIC WATCH:

Sometimes uttering a firm or polite “No” to others is the equivalent of saying a giant “Yes” to ourselves. “No” can serve as a trusty lifesaver for us as we learn to set or re-set appropriate limits or boundaries around us that are necessary for our own self-care and survival.

Also, with two notable “Pluto” aspects occurring, over the next couple of days, we may want to make sure that we have that “No” word ready to go, as needed, as part of our official behavioral toolkit, as thorny control or power (Pluto) issues may now gravitate to the forefront. Too, as we all know, relationships are always a two-way street, and that if we want others to kindly respect our boundaries, we must do the same with them.

Today, we have Venus in the travel and communication sign of Gemini quinqunx to Pluto in Capricorn, which rules business, government, and authority figures (4:15 pm EDT). The quinqunx is regarded as more of an adjustment aspect, meaning that something under the relationship (Venus) hood, be it in business or the personal realm, may need to be re-set or re-aligned, at this time, as something is likely not flowing quite right. It could just be that our own attitude or state of mind is what’s amiss, with Venus in the mental sign of Gemini, which rules our thoughts and ideas. In this case, we may also want to think about re-visiting our values, which Venus also governs, and see if we are still on track with them via living out our life as an honest expression of what we truly value or hold dear to us. Venus-Pluto may just be showing us that, indeed, our internals have changed and what we held as important to us, in the past, is no longer the case.

Too, with Venus also ruling our money and possessions, we may want to watch over our expenditures, more closely now; or perhaps closely examine what it is that we may want to suddenly purge or rid ourselves of. Pluto’s energy has more of a compulsive feel to it. We may feel that we must act on something now, that things can no longer wait!

Some other possible “shadow-type” manifestations with Venus-Pluto: greed, manipulation, intense jealousy; being overly possessive. On the positive side, Venus-Pluto can demand that we become absolutely honest with ourselves, and face the full truth of our situation or circumstances, which, in the end, can be very liberating and empowering for us, even though it may not be the easiest thing to do, in the moment.

Fortunately, the Moon is still also in logical, rational Virgo, for another day. This energy may help to diffuse some of the potential emotionalism or possible fall-out of the more heated Venus-Pluto configuration.

Meanwhile, on Friday, we also have the Sun in its annual opposition to Pluto. But, more on that next time.

Who would you like to say “No” to, and why?

Astrology May 15, 2012: Venus Stations Retrograde in Gemini

astrology for may 15 2012, beauty, horoscope may 15 2012, love, money, relationships, same-sex marriage, values, venus goes retrograde in gemini

COSMIC WATCH:

“Love must be as much a light, as it is a flame.” Henry David Thoreau

Lovable Venus stations retrograde at 24 degrees of Gemini (10:33 am EDT). It will remain retrograde until June 27. During Venus’s apparent backward dance in the sky we have a chance to carefully reflect upon and critique all the areas that Venus governs: our romantic life; the way we socialize or interact with others; the values we espouse and hold dear to our heart; the aspects of our life that provide us with pleasure or beauty. Venus also presides over our attitudes towards money and possessions.

Traditionally, the retrograde phase of a planet is a time when it is normally advised to postpone any important decision-making regarding the affairs ruled by that planet, as the theory is that the final verdict or takeaway on a matter will not be known until the planet resumes direct motion again.

Venus goes retrograde every 18 months. The last time that it went retrograde in Gemini was on May 17, 2004. Fascinatingly, back then on that very date, is when the state of Massachusetts issued the first, fully legal, same-sex marriage licenses in the United States (Venus rules marriage). Now once again, just days prior to Venus going retrograde in this same sign, the sign of the twins, more history has been made on this same issue with President Obama openly coming out in support of same-sex marriage, the first U.S. president to do so. Rather interesting, isn’t it, to see the progression on this matter?

Wonder, too, if Gemini, given its versatility, curiosity, and dual nature, might have more of a proclivity for same-sex unions? Or at least a higher toleration or acceptance of such relationships? What do you think? Also, might Venus retrograde itself indicate more of a tendency to embrace non-traditional relationships, as when a planet goes retrograde there can be a turning away or distancing from what is deemed to be more customary behavior?

How important is it for you that your relationships meet with the approval or sanction of others? Of society? What is the dream of love for your life?

COSMIC WATCH:

With the Moon in “grounded” Taurus all day, it is an excellent time to examine how we can personally center our daily lives more fully around our values, which Taurus governs. When we live in sync with our values we are better able to express who we are, as well as attract to us what we need to flourish and prosper. The Moon’s flowing trine to insightful Pluto (8:19 am EST) can also provide extra clarity on what we may need to change or transmute in order to cultivate and display our own authenticity. Later, the Moon’s trine to the resourceful Capricorn Sun (7:44 pm EST) is a potent stimulus for creative expressions of personal power and for any long-term planning.

COSMIC WATCH:

A Full Moon in slow-moving, earthy Taurus today, at 18 degrees (3:17 pm EST), puts a focus on finding contentment and enjoyment in the simpler pleasures of life. It also places a spotlight on our values, and may be able to provide us with added insight, clarity and feedback on how we are managing our resources. Too, what we attract to us is often a reflection of what we value. Maybe If we are unhappy or unfulfilled with the elements surrounding us at this Full Moon, it could be that we need to go inside ourselves and take a closer look at where we have been putting our focus lately. Perhaps we have been putting our attention in the wrong areas, investing our time and energy in the wrong things, and we need to make some adjustments now.  Full Moons can trigger crisis situations and turning points in consciousness. Too, it could be that pivotal events happening in the collective now may also have the net affect of helping to alter or reshape our values or belief systems.

Energy planet Mars, governing self-assertion, is also shifting from flashy, entertaining Leo into organizing, analytical Virgo today (11:15 pm EST), the sign of work and health, where it will stay until next July. With Mars in Virgo, there is an emphasis on honing or perfecting our skills or craft. It is also an excellent period for instituting positive health changes. For instance, we may be more driven and fired up to adhere to diets now. Or an exercise program. In the body, Virgo rules the intestines and the process of digestion. The intestines break down food particles so that they may be better assimilated. Symbolically, Mars in Virgo also energizes us to carefully digest our life experiences so that we may take away from them practical, useful substance or content. Virgo is a highly resourceful sign that helps to make us very self-sufficient. It is also a sign that takes pleasure in being of service or utility to others.

Astrology May 3, 2011: “Money Matters” New Moon in Taurus

COSMIC WEATHER:

“If you want to feel rich, just count the things in life that money can’t buy.” Proverb Quote

The positioning of the New Moon (new beginning) in slower, steady Taurus today at 13 degrees of the sign (2:51 am EDT), coming as it does amid the stellium of five planets still remaining in active, masculine Aries, including the hyper-enthusiastic, but waning “Mars-Jupiter” conjunction, helps to give us more of a sense of firm footing. We may feel less compelled to “act” and more inclined to simply “be.” Of course, this will be even more the case when Mercury, Venus (the feminine ruler of Taurus), and Mars all shift into earthy Taurus around mid-month from fiery, “Mars-ruled” Aries.

The keywords for Taurus the Bull are: “I have.” Enduring Taurus is concerned with acquisition and money matters. Doing whatever it can to solidify or secure its base of operations. It needs to feel more of a sense of permanence and stability which often occurs as a result of effectively managing its personal resources.

Too, money often “does matter” because, in many instances, money helps afford us the freedom and mobility of being able to “do our own thing,” with less restriction or interference from others. It also helps us to procure the things that we desire, instead of having to go without. It also aids us in practically manifesting the vision and dream of the preceding sign of Aries. “I am” Aries enthusiastically initiates, conceptualizes, lives in the moment. Taurus takes Aries newly-birthed dreams and creative ideas and gives them tangible shape and breath, so they don’t peter out. Aries’ visions of “sugar plum fairies’  become “real-life realities” alongside Taurus’s talented, Midas-type touch.

The down-to-earth sign of Taurus also speaks to us in plain english about our values. Whatever we spend our time and money on is often a good barometer of what it is that we value. What we value or esteem, of course, we ultimately become, as we actively seek to attract to us, the things that we treasure.

Too, if we are not presently happy with what we have around us, be it possessions or relationships, it could be that we have been putting emphasis on the wrong things in our lives, or have maybe been sending the Universe mixed messages. We may want to use this Taurus New Moon to become clearer, in our own minds, on exactly what it is that we do want in our lives, as well as what we don’t want.

On another level, we may already be fairly sure of what we want, but we are not very effective at time management, so as a consequence, we do not attract to us the things that we desire. We perhaps fritter away our precious days and nights on inconsequential matters that, in the end, only serve to imprison us from reaching our dreams and potentials.

This New Moon in Taurus is also receiving a quinqunx (adjustment) aspect from taskmaster Saturn in partnership Libra. With Saturn, there is usually the requirement that we have to explain ourselves or justify our actions to somebody. Could be a partner (Libra) in this case.

Regardless of the scenario, this quinqunx to critical Saturn may actually be a positive thing for us, as it can perhaps help us to better define (Saturn) to ourselves, what it is that we do truly want in our lives. It could be, too, that we decide that we don’t want “interfering types” hovering around us (Saturn in Libra) and that they better hush up, or quickly become history! 🙂 We may also, again realize, that we have to make some changes in our daily habits, and how we go about allocating our “Saturn-ruled time,” so as to be able to acquire more of what we want out of life. This is something that I am personally trying to work on now for myself – and it ain’t easy!

Also, perhaps we would all be wise to keep in mind that, often when we help others (Libra) to get what they want, we do end up getting what we want (Taurus), and more. Especially when we freely give to others with a selfless spirit. Sometimes, of course, it is hard to give of ourselves freely, but that’s okay. In time, it often does get easier with conscious intention and a little bit of practice. Kind of like riding a bike.

What is it that you would like to have more of, in your life, with this trusty,Taurus New Moon standing by, ready to practically oblige you? What would you like to eliminate or scale back on? What three things can you do now, this very moment, to begin manifesting your desires? Is there also something that you could do today to help others, close to you, realize their dreams? Sometimes a simple word of encouragement, does the trick, don’t you think? Or just the withholding of a poisonous, negative remark.

Too, the Moon and Sun are in uncomplicated Taurus, which means that we do best by keeping our actions and deeds simple, and authentic. Of course, we cannot entirely rule out all the fanfare, with much of the gang, still rockin’ and rollin’ in the exuberant sign of Aries, which loves martial parades and colorful celebrations. We just need to find a happy balance here.

BTW, yours truly, has her natal Sun in Taurus and her rising in Aries, and spontaneous Mars, ruler of Aries, in her 10th house of career, at the very top of her chart. I am continually trying to find a healthy balance between feeling I need to originate new things and set the world on fire versus just sticking to and building upon what I have already undertaken. “New” things (Aries) perpetually tempt me and seem more golden to me then what already tangibly exists (Taurus) around me. Perhaps if I simply took more time cultivating and getting to know and appreciate what I already have, I would be much better off. More relaxed and at peace with myself.

“Pure love and suspicion cannot dwell together; at the door where the latter enters, the former makes its exit.” Alexandre Dumas Pere.

Venus, denoting our desire for love and affection, descends back into the depths of mysterious Scorpio November 29th, where she will be residing until January 7, 2011. As we may recall, Venus was recently in this same sign, September 8th through November 8th, before retrograding back into diplomatic Libra. Venus, the mythological “Love Goddess,” is the natural ruler of Libra, the sign of “the other.”

Venus depicts how we tend to naturally display our emotions and feelings within the confines of our intimate and personal encounters. As the natural planetary ruler of acquisition-minded Taurus, Venus also governs money and possessions, and our overall power of attraction. It also rules our values. We generally attract to us whatever it is that we value.

Venus also signifies outlets and venues that bring us pleasure and enjoyment, the recreational activities that we choose to do in our spare time. Venus additionally represents beauty and physical appearance, and symbolizes art and artists.

With Venus installed back into intense, transforming Scorpio, we are, once again, seeking a deep emotional renewal through our romantic and intimate connections. We are needing to feel the depths of passion and desire. With Venus in Scorpio, relationships are characteristically “all or nothing” for us.  We don’t pussyfoot around.

Venus in Scorpio is also very psychic and gives us an ability to keenly pick up on other people’s moods. It also exudes a lot of “animal magnetism” and can make us very sexy and sexual. Scorpio is, after all, the sign of sex.

Scorpio’s ruler, Pluto, is also very controlling, so with Venus here, we have more of an inclination to “crack the whip,” so to speak, in order to get others to “fall in line” with our personal desires and agendas.

Perhaps as an outgrowth of this same need for control, Venus in Scorpio tends to make us more calculating and shrewd, and very secretive and possessive.  We don’t show our cards, or let our guard down, until we feel it is “safe” to do so, and even then, there is usually residual jealousy and suspicion lingering around. Again, this is largely because of Pluto’s “darker” hold on Venus.

Pluto is associated with spying and probing, and unearthing whatever is hidden and submerged. Pluto even rules x-ray vision. Therefore, with Venus in Scorpio we are more inclined to “snoop around” and “ask a lot of pointed questions,” in our quest to get to the bottom of things.

“So where were you on the night of Nov. 24th at 3:15 am? Who were you with? What were you doing? What about the evening of the 23rd? 🙂

Venus in Scorpio can also be a time when our “old lovers” resurface, and relationships that were once “left for dead,” are rekindled or revived. Scorpio rules life, death, and rebirth.

On a monetary level, Venus in Scorpio may also bring about a revitalization of our financial situation, with new opportunities and new ways to make money, sometimes by reconfiguring elements of our past.

Activities favored with Venus in Scorpio: antiquing and going to estate sales, refurbishing our surroundings, updating our wardrobe, recycling, renewing beauty treatments, sexual healing and therapy, psychotherapy, psychic development, seances, channeling, meditation, attending to taxes, insurance, and estate matters, focusing on joint investments, undertaking medical and or scientific research.
