Cosmic Weather:

“Once we believe in ourselves, we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight, or any experience that reveals the human spirit.” E.E. Cummings

With the Waxing Moon ensconced in commanding Leo, the sign of the lion, this is a natural time of the month for us to go about expressing our courage, creativity, and self-confidence.

An early morning lunar trine to the pioneering Aries Sun (12:54 am) also primes us for adventure or risk-taking. This is also excellent for any cooperative venture.

Luna’s square to erratic Uranus in Taurus (9:45 am) may find us temporarily more concerned with self-preservation, money, and or security matters. While we may want to embrace our personal freedom and self-expression, we are also possibly concerned about upending some of our stability, in the process. Incorporating a bit of flexibility into our outlook, however, can be the key to our getting ahead now and also a positive way for us to enjoy even more personal growth and well-being in the future as we are able to discover that there are often more choices available to us then we are sometimes able to grasp or perceive in any given moment. All we have to do is be willing to ferret them out.

The Leo Moon’s opposition to cautious Saturn in collective-ruling Aquarius (1:38 pm) could find us wanting to pull back a bit from relationships/social interactions. It can also sensitize us more to other people’s remarks, particularly to criticism. Revisiting the past may also be tempting now and constructive, especially if we are able to find a way to capitalize on lessons learned.

Luna will also sextile Mars in versatile Gemini today (4:08 pm). This is excellent emotional energy for connecting us with our passions and talents. A wider array of opportunities may also suddenly appear on the horizon as we open ourselves to new ideas or ways of thinking.

*All times EDT

On This Day in History: On March 24, 1853, the anti-slavery newspaper “The Provincial Freeman” was first published in Windsor, Ontario, edited by Samuel Ringgold Ward and Mary Ann Shadd, the first Black woman newspaper publisher in North America and Canada’s first female publisher. It was the second newspaper in Canada to present the views and concerns of the Black community. The paper’s final issue was published on September 20, 1857.

Astrologically, on March 24, 1853, compassionate Neptune in unifying Pisces was exactly sextile to wounded healer Chiron in more traditionally-minded Capricorn. Transforming Pluto was also at 0 degrees of values-minded Taurus (a critical degree). Writer Mercury was also in trailblazing Aries and applying to an exact trine to philosophical Jupiter, the planet which governs publishing. This trine aspect is great for disseminating our ideas and teachings, or for shaping/influencing narratives. Jupiter was also strengthened by being in its home sign of scholarly Sagittarius.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Cosmic Weather:

“It is easier to believe in the ideal than it is to achieve it, but it is impossible to achieve the ideal if one does not believe in it.” Josh Steimie

With motivating Mars conjunct idealistic Neptune in Pisces (at 10:13 am) our actions may be guided now more by our dreams, fantasies, or illusions than perhaps by tangible reality. This can also be an especially creative time for artistic endeavors that rely largely on imagination or inspiration. Others of us may also feel a strong pull toward the spiritual or transcendent realm, as well as maybe feel more singularly directed by a sense of selflessness or compassion or unconditional love. Too, in some cases, Mars-Neptune can give rise to elements of martyrdom in which we can feel compelled to give ourselves over to a larger cause.

On the shadow side, Mars-Neptune alignments can also occasionally be very ego-denying, which can sometimes result in second-guessing or even doubting ourselves as firm backing from others may be harder or more elusive for us to obtain now. Or, it’s also possible that we may simply be feeling more misunderstood or misrepresented at this time. In some instances, Mars-Neptune aspects are also linked with actual retreat or surrender on matters, as Mars rules the urge for assertion and merged with dissolving, diffusive Neptune there can be an erosion or subjugation of that urge. It may also be the case that there’s simply not enough physical energy available to power our moves now or to want to deal with or take on any opposition.

Generally, Mars-Neptune aspects are often a good time to just chill out or relax, go with the flow, regroup our energies, turn inward and reflect until a clearer perspective re-emerges on the horizon – which it will – and we feel, once again, on more solid footing, more confident of what the next right step should be.

Astrology Past: The last time we had Mars conjunct Neptune in Pisces (December 6, 2018), U.S. President George H.W. Bush was laid to rest next to his wife and daughter at his presidential library in College Station, Texas. Five living presidents, family, friends, and dignitaries from around the country and the world filled Washington National Cathedral for his funeral.

“We are a nation of communities…a brilliant diversity spread like stars, like a thousand points of light in a broad and peaceful sky.” George H.W. Bush

Cosmic Weather:

“To practice any art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow. So do it.” – Kurt Vonnegut

There’s a First Quarter Square between the dramatic Leo Moon and grounded Taurus Sun today (at 4:38 p,m). This may create a desire and a determination to want to venture outside the sanctity of our normal routines to experience something more glamorous or playful or creative.

Communicator Mercury is also having its annual conjunction with non-conforming Uranus in Taurus (values, money, comfort), later tonight (10:41 pm). Mercury-Uranus can sometimes feel like a bit of a horserace going on in our head as our thoughts and ideas can be galloping by us fast and furious now. Uranus, which is the higher octave of mental Mercury, generally tends to speed things up. This aspect is also associated with strokes of genius, originality, innovation, and intuition.

Since Mercury and Uranus are also aligned in financial Taurus it’s possible that we may come up with new or different ideas to make money now. Or, perhaps, it could be that we find ourselves facing situations or circumstances that challenge us now, maybe out of necessity, to simply be more creative or inventive in how we generate a revenue stream because how we operated in the past is possibly no longer a viable option.

“Much ingenuity with a little money is vastly more profitable and amusing than much money without ingenuity.” Arnold Bennett

Also tomorrow in the U.S., a coalition of many essential workers at Walmart, Amazon, FedEx, and other retailers are supposedly poised to go on strike to protest their working conditions during this COVID-19 era. Reform-minded, dissenting Uranus is often a prominent factor in strikes or protests. Speaker Mercury also gives workers a chance to voice their grievances or complaints. May 1 “Rent Strikes” are also reportedly planned in some cities across the U.S. on Friday.

Messenger Mercury formally governs the news and, for the last several days, we have also been hearing more and more about possible food shortages, particularly meat and poultry shortages or disruptions (Taurus governs the food supply). Earlier this week, for instance, with Mercury in Taurus exactly square to authoritative Saturn, President Trump signed an executive order (as part of the Defense Production Act) to keep meat plants open, citing that they are ‘critical infrastructure.’ Also yesterday, we heard a bit of positive news about breakthrough results (Mercury-Uranus) concerning a clinical study involving hospitalized COVID-19 patients who responded positively to Remdesivir, an antiviral drug experimentally used for treating the virus. The FDA is now reportedly moving at ‘lightning speed’ (Uranus!) to review data on the drug to hopefully get it officially approved and cleared for treatment for seriously ill Covid-19 patients.

Cosmic Weather:

“Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none.” William Shakespeare

We start out our Monday with waxing Luna still afloat in the mystical waters of Pisces, decidedly adding an “otherworld” feel to the day. Neptune, the ruler of Pisces, is also having its annual conjunction with Venus (ruler of love, beauty, art, and values), an alignment that’s occurring at 16 degrees of Pisces (at 3:00 pm).

With sweet Venus and transpersonal Neptune conjoined in the heavens, our capacity to display compassion or to show kindness or forgiveness to others is potentially enhanced. There can also be a deep yearning for an ideal or more selfless kind of love, as well as more of a general willingness to see others now in the best possible light, or to at least give them, the benefit of the doubt. On the shadow side, this influence can also make us more emotionally vulnerable, which could lead to, among other things, our being taken advantage of or deceived (including falling prey to self-deception).

On another level, Venus-Neptune energy is excellent for any creative endeavors, largely because “visionary” Neptune, the ruler of our imagination, is able to naturally tune into the non-physical realm with ease, thereby allowing artistic Venus to transmute that experience into actual physical form. “I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.” Michelangelo

*All times EST.

Tarot Card For The Day:

It’s “The Lovers” card, which often comes up when we have choices to make about our relationships. Too, sometimes when this card appears, there’s an element of self-sacrifice (Neptune) attached to those choices. In general, The Lovers suggests a desire to want to be involved in either a relationship or something else that is meaningful, that allows a person a chance to get outside of themselves, to connect to something larger.

Also, when I was shuffling the cards, “The World” card fell out of the deck twice, along with the Ace of Swords. The World card is the very last of the Major Arcana cards (in the Tarot) and signifies the ending of a cycle. It also represents kind of a “pause period” before significant new action is undertaken. The World card can also foster an acceptance of life as it is, with all its many ups and downs. The Ace of Swords also suggests that we have good mental clarity at our disposal today (Mercury in Aquarius), as well as potential receptivity to incorporating, advancing, or entertaining new ideas.

Numerology For The Day:

The “27th” day of January suggests a focus on humanitarian issues, compassion, as well as a capacity to extend tolerance towards those who hold beliefs perhaps different from our own. (Moon in Pisces).

Born On This Day: Musician and composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, in 1756 (d. in 1791). Mozart is quoted as saying: Neither a lofty degree of intelligence nor imagination nor both together go to the making of genius. Love, love, love, that is the soul of genius.

Hope it’s a good one!

Astrology January 26, 2020: Venus Squares Mars – Yin Versus Yang Energy

Cosmic Weather:

“Peace is not an easy prospect–it requires greater bravery than does conflict.” Ozzie Zehner

With Venus (desires) and Mars (actions) “squaring off” with each other today, it may be more of a challenge now to “lasso-in” what we want without creating some sort of potential conflict for ourselves. It could be, perhaps, that our timing is off. Or, that we’re simply pushing too hard (applying too much “yang” energy) and maybe just need to back off (assume a receptive “yin” stance). In traditional astrology, Venus square Mars is often depicted as the “Battle of the Sexes.”

Mars in Sagittarius, too, can make us more prone to “venting our beliefs,” which could naturally invite some pushback from others, depending, in part, on how we choose to conduct or express ourselves. Sometimes, how we say something is also even more important than what we say.

In the relationship sphere, too, being more cooperative might be a positive way to “save the day,” in the event that we hit upon a few snags. Especially with Venus in dreamy Pisces now, which is always searching for “ideal” or “unconditional” love and is not too thrilled with confrontation.

At any rate, the Venus-Mars square can greatly invoke our passions and desires, making us feel very vital (and sexy). It can also galvanize our creative juices.

Meanwhile, the waxing Moon is also wrapping up her stay in “individualistic” Aquarius today, shifting into “transcendental” Pisces, early this evening. Ideally, this helps us to disengage our galactic-sized egos a tad, so we can hopefully play nice with each other – at least for a while!

(Venus in Pisces squares Mars in Sagittarius, at 8:36 pm)

(Moon enters Pisces, at 6:44 pm)

*All times EST.

Tarot Card For The Day: “The Star” card, which suggests that there’s a ray of hope on the horizon after a period of turmoil. Inwardly, we may also be feeling more self-confident and more at ease just being ourselves now. The “Six of Wands” card also fell out of the deck twice, while I was shuffling, signifying that we may possibly be honored for our past efforts now. This recognition may also motivate us to want to do more of the same, in the future. It’s always interesting to observe, too, how one thing (one action), often leads to another. And yet another. How we’re always, seemingly, peeling back more layers of the proverbial onion, which also, quite perplexingly, never seems to shrink in size! 🙂

“The applause was so loud and insistent that I had to respond with several encores. I was numb with happiness, when it was over, I knew that this alone must be my life and my world.” Leni Riefenstahl

Born On This Day: Comedian Ellen DeGeneres, who’s turning 62 today. Ellen’s quoted as saying: Procrastinate now, don’t put it off.

Hope it’s a good one!

Today’s Astrology for September 7, 2019: Mercury Opposes Fishy Neptune

creativity, daily astrology, deception, Grandma Moses, imagination, logic, Mercury opposition to Neptune

Cosmic Weather:

Precise, logical Mercury in Virgo meets up with foggy, dissolving Neptune in Pisces today (3:18 am), the ruler of the fishy sea, and the planet of our imagination and phantom representations (or misrepresentations, including deception), so our thinking, reasoning, communications, and overall mental alertness may be a bit askew now. Or, significantly askew! – depending upon our own individual make-up, inclinations, or factory-type settings, and how we may choose to ride out this tricky, elusive, illusionary energy. (Mercury-Neptune is often associated with half-truths, missing or erroneous information.)

Suffice it to say, today may not be the best time for attending to the highly-detailed type of work and exacting calculations that Mercury in Virgo so inherently relishes; however, it is likely a very inspiring time to unleash the power of our own creativity and see how many dots we can, perhaps, lusciously disconnect. 🙂

It’s highly doubtful, though, that our brain stem and the rest of us will actually “float away” and vanish into thin air, this Saturday, as waxing, prescient Luna has already seemed to have adeptly planned for this cosmic event and has, thereby, chosen to deftly extricate herself from “adventurous” Sagittarius, for the remainder of the weekend, and instead, has securely deposited her sleek, form-fitting derriere into “doubting naysayer” Capricorn (6:37 am) where skepticism is king.

Favored activities today: Reading or writing fiction/poetry; acting, dancing, singing, painting, photography; water therapy/water massage; dream interpretation; studying mysticism or religion; developing our intuition; engaging in outlets that sensitize us to the feelings or needs of others or that allows us to show our compassionate side.

*All times EDT

Born on This Day: Grandma Moses (Anna Mary Robertson Moses) in 1860 in Greenwich, New York. An American folk artist, she began painting in earnest at the age of 78 and is often cited as an example of an individual who successfully began a career in the arts at an advanced age. She died in 1961 at 101. (Wikipedia)

In her birthchart, Moses had Mercury and Saturn almost exactly conjunct (one degree) in detail-oriented Virgo, which is typically excellent for deep yet highly pragmatic thinking as well as keen concentration or focus. She also had her artistic Venus in dynamic Leo and in a two-degree trine to imaginative Neptune Rx in the last degree of Pisces, suggesting a real, natural flow of artistic energy. Her Moon (emotions) was also in endlessly curious and youthful Gemini and conjunct progressive, inventive Uranus.

“If I hadn’t started painting, I would have raised chickens.” Grandma Moses

Cosmic Weather:

We start out our Wednesday – the 205th day of the year – with Waning Luna (governing our feelings and emotions) wrapping up her stay in fast-acting Aries, perhaps generating more of a general restlessness within us and also more of a tendency towards impulsivity as we are more inclined now to directly act upon our emotions. (The Moon will be void from 10:47 am to 5:42 pm, at which time it will enter the sign of stabilizing Taurus.)

Communicator Mercury retrograde is also forming a conjunction with sweet, soothing Venus in sentimental Cancer (8:26 pm). This softening influence can not only make us wax poetic and perhaps kindle our romantic side as well, it can also find us revisiting and analyzing old relationships, old feelings, including reviewing elements of our familial or ancestral past. Articulating our feelings now may also be more important to us. Additionally, it may be a wonderful time to visit art galleries, take in concerts, redecorate our living quarters, as we potentially have more of an aptitude and appreciation for beauty now in all of its forms. Too, this conjunction nicely dovetails with today’s numerology, since it’s the 24th day of the month, which is also a Venus-ruled six-day.

The Moon also enters its Last Quarter Phase in practical Taurus tonight (9:17 pm), squaring the Sun in self-expressive Leo. (The Quarter Moon phase always suggests some crisis in consciousness is possible.) It could be that we need to reconcile now a need to be pragmatic with a desire to be creative. Perhaps discerning how to place or put a value or worth (Taurus) on our own creative instincts (Leo).

“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” Maya Angelou

On This Day in History: On July 24, 1965, Bob Dylan (b. 5/24/41) releases the classic “Like A Rolling Stone.” Astrologically, that day, Mercury (words) and Venus (artistry) were conjunct in creative Leo (similar to what we have today with those same two planets conjunct in Cancer). The empowering Sun was also in dramatic Leo and sextile to the Waning Moon in articulate, clever Gemini. Dylan also had, in his own birth chart, transiting fortuitous (preacher-teacher) Jupiter in Gemini exactly conjunct his 7th house cusp (ruling the public) and trining his Libra Midheaven (career house).

Hope it’s a good one!

Cosmic Weather:

“Don’t be satisfied with stories, how things have gone with others. Unfold your own myth.” Rumi

Have you ever gone to that proverbial drawing board with the best of intentions to be creative or imaginative, and absolutely zilch happened? It’s like you suddenly morph into a zombie or something and you end up just sitting there, twiddling your thumbs. If you can even muster that much! What’s even worse is when you look all around you, and you see all these cool things created by other people! and you’re thinking to yourself, “Why in the world did I have to get stuck with such a lousy, god-awful imagination? Is it possible payback or retribution, perhaps, for an ancient karmic misdeed, or something? 🙂

Isn’t it also humbling and mind-boggling, too, when you step outside into nature and you see all this brilliantly choreographed magnificence and beauty everywhere? Or, you look into the heavens through a telescope, and it’s as if the complicated universe never stops unfolding! There is just so much amazing mystery and wonderment surrounding us, all the time, and yet many of us never really even think much about it because we are often so preoccupied with all the daily, mundane, personal stuff. Yet, we also have it so much better, in many ways, with respect to countless others who lived before us, in other time periods, who often had to struggle to just make it to age 30 or 40.

“The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.” Sylvia Plath

And yet, regardless of everything, hope springs eternal for another glorious chance to possibly shine or dazzle, or to come into our own, in our optimal roles as co-creators with the universe! Or, so it seems, at least for today anyway, with sweet, artistic Venus, the Goddess of Love and Beauty, forming a lovely sextile aspect with compassionate Neptune, the official Kingpin of Imagination (3:45 am).  The Venus-Neptune hookup today also activating the ongoing, more long-term Saturn-Neptune sextile that has been in operation since the end of January and will continue in effect, on and off, for most of this year. This aspect between these two planetary heavyweights, Saturn and Neptune, is, theoretically, ideal for helping us turn our dreams, creativity, and visions (Neptune) into reality or tangible form (Saturn).

Today’s Astrology:

The Lunar Eclipse in self-expressive Leo the Lion (12:16 am) illuminates our urge to be creative, to shine in our own special way. With the Sun in opposing Aquarius we’re also seeking to integrate that uniqueness back into the collective in a bid to make the singular contribution that only we can make. With individualistic Uranus closely squaring the eclipse point, there’s also an increased desire for freedom from convention or cultural dictates. “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference (Uranus) that you have lived and lived well.”  Ralph Waldo Emerson

Today, energizing Mars in pioneering Aries also encounters some formidable resistance resulting from its square aspect to taskmaster Saturn in Capricorn (6:16 am). Slowing down and approaching matters more carefully and thoroughly may be in the cards now, especially if we’re getting clear indications that something’s amiss. We also may need to simply disengage ourselves from some projects, for a while, and decide later, when we’re perhaps more inspired, what our next power moves should be.

*All times EST.

The last time that pioneering Mars in Aries squared Saturn in Capricorn, the sign of regulations and government, was back in July of 1990, forming an exact square on July 1st. On that very same day, East and West Germany merged their economies, a very historic event, as that was the first time ever that a capitalist and socialist economy had suddenly become one. Of course, since something like this had never happened before, it took a good while to get all the procedural kinks worked out. Kinda what you’d expect with the more challenging Mars-Saturn imprint.

Interestingly, China’s annual economic growth rate was reported today to be the slowest since 1990, or the last time that Saturn was in the sign of Capricorn. (Wall Street Journal)

“The world of reality (Saturn) has its limits; the world of imagination (Neptune) is boundless.” Jean-Jacques Rousseau

Mercury, Saturn, Pluto, and the South Node are all ensconced in responsible Capricorn now. We also have the annual, intense Sun-Pluto conjunction, tomorrow. But all this doesn’t necessarily mean that we can’t put aside those early January “to-do lists” or whatever and take a breather to re-charge our body, mind, and spirit. With Luna streaming through dreamy, reflective, otherworldy Pisces, all day, it’s a perfect time to re-focus our energies on activities or outlets that enlist our imagination, dreams, creativity, as well as humanity. Too, as most of us know, when we stay focused on what’s in front of us, we keep getting more of the same. But when we dare to hang out in the boundless, endless sphere of our imagination, that’s where we really have the chance to thrive and create a brand new world or paradigm for ourselves. “We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.” Kurt Vonnegut

Famous January 10 Birthdays: Rod Stewart, George Foreman, Pat Benatar, Jim Croce

“What I do now is all my dad’s fault, because he bought me a guitar, for no apparent reason.” Rod Stewart.

On This Date in History: On January 10, 1956 Elvis Presley records “Heartbreak Hotel”.

The transiting Sun in Capricorn was sextile to Elvis’ lucky Jupiter in Scorpio that day. Transiting Pluto was also in rock star Leo and trining innovative Uranus, in pioneering Aries, in Elvis’ 5th house of creative expression – a potent planetary aspect that helped to transform (Pluto) his world through the expression of his electrifying and unique talents and gifts (Uranus). He also had that latter, more long-term Pluto-Uranus aspect, at play, all through 1956, when he released a lot of other classics including “Love Me Tender” and “Hound Dog”.

Hope you have a very lovely, rejuvenating day. Dream big! All the way to the Pisces Moon.
