Cosmic Weather:

“The day the power of love overrules the love of power, the world will know peace.” Mahatma Gandi

The Sun in Aries squares Pluto in Capricorn (9:27 am). This more intense, complicated aspect can often find us pushing too hard to control the scheme of things; we may possibly perceive ourselves to be under attack so we won’t let go. However, holding on too tightly now can also boomerang and work against us, in some instances, particularly by depleting (or exhausting) our energy. Included here, we may also become more aware of specific behaviors that are no longer serving us and should be purged or moved to the curb.

On the other hand, this is not necessarily a time when we need to give up on our goals, especially those that are a central part of our basic self-expression, our personal identity, and or reflect our deeply-held beliefs, values, or viewpoints; instead, we may just need to retool things; to fashion some new creative responses or strategies that allow us to express our personal power and purpose in a more unifying way on an energetic level; that plays to our strengths or hopes (and not to our weaknesses or fears).

The Waxing Crescent Moon also remains in versatile Gemini all day. Imploring us to make connections, seek out alternatives, verbalize our feelings.

*All times EDT

On This Day in History: On April 16, 1943, Swiss scientist Dr. Albert Hofmann discovers the psychedelic effects of LSD.

Astrologically, that day, pioneering Mars was at 29 degrees of experimental, innovative Aquarius and applying to an exact quincunx to hallucinogenic Neptune (which rules psychedelic drugs). Neptune was also Rx at 0 degrees and 1 minute of Libra, getting ready to re-enter the health-sign of Virgo. Neptune was an especially important “point-of-focus” in the sky then with its shift back into Virgo; Mars was also a key cosmic player at the critical “29-degree mark” – and getting ready to dive into Neptune-ruled Pisces. Mars-Neptune influences are often associated with seeking out activities that give rise to a “feeling of transcendence” or wanting to experience somehow “otherworldly” connections.

“By observing natural scientific discoveries through a perception deepened by meditation, we can develop a new awareness of reality.” Albert Hofmann

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

“When we are active, we become stronger and more energetic. This, in turn, makes us more positive and self-confident. It’s a powerful cycle.” Ernest Cadorin

We start off the last Monday of 2020 with the Waxing Moon in fickle, curious Gemini, which means our attention may be a little bit here, a little bit there. There is also more of a desire for taking personal initiative, especially as the day progresses, with Luna sextile to assertive Mars in Aries (10:01 pm), which also naturally raises our propensity for risk-taking or adventure. Articulating our thoughts or feelings also comes more naturally to us now with the Moon deposited in word sleuth Gemini.

Numerologically, the 28th day of the month (which reduces down to “one”) additionally bodes well for embarking on new personal beginnings. The only caution here is that we do not want to spread ourselves too thin, going into tomorrow’s Full Moon in emotionally protective Cancer.

*All times EST.

On This Day in History: On December 28, 1612, Galileo observes and records a  “fixed star” without realizing it was the planet, Neptune.

Astrologically, in the sky then, futuristic Jupiter, the planet of luck and expansion, was exactly conjunct Neptune, at 26 degrees of magnifying, refining Virgo – beneficent Jupiter, no doubt, helping to gently goad ethereal Neptune out from the shadows. Jupiter-Neptune conjunctions often have an otherworldly feel to them. It is often a time, too, when our dreams are given their angel wings.

“All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them.” Galileo Galilei

Neptune would later be formally discovered on September 23, 1846, at the Berlin Observatory by German astronomer Johann Gottfried Galle when the transiting, pioneering Mars was at 25 degrees of Virgo (activating that original Jupiter-Neptune meetup point). Also, on that day structuring Saturn was exactly conjunct nebulous Neptune at 25 degrees of scientifically-minded, breakthrough Aquarius. Saturn-Neptune aspects often have a way of piercing through the veil of illusion to reveal the true nature of things.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Cosmic Weather:

(Venus in Taurus trines Pluto Retrograde in Capricorn)

Today’s insightful Venus-Pluto trine (11:41 pm) potentially serves to make us more aware of what it is that we genuinely value or desire in our lives. It is as if the layers are peeled back now and we are able to see what we must have – or what is non-negotiable for us – in order to feel an internal/external sense of richness/safety/security. Correspondingly, there may also be a greater focus on solidifying, strengthening, or deepening our roots/connections/attachments.

Additionally, Venus-Pluto can also ignite our passions as well as unleash or invite more healing forms of energy. Venus-Pluto is often associated with “breathing new life” into old relationships. It might also be a good time to get our finances in order, or to commune with nature.

(Balsamic Moon)

The Waning Moon is in its Balsamic (Dark) Phase, entering communicative Gemini (at 7:47 am). This Lunar period is best for wrapping up or finishing things, and for rest or renewal, in preparation for tomorrow’s New Moon in Gemini.

“Rest and be thankful.” William Wordsworth

*All times EDT

Question for Today: What is something that you are “non-negotiable” about?

Famous June 2 Birthdays: Marquis de Sade, Johnny Weissmuller, Charlie Watts, Kyle Petty, Rachel Ray, Dana Garvey

“Conversation, like certain portions of the anatomy, always runs more smoothly when lubricated.” Marquis de Sade

On This Day in History: On June 2, 1875, Alexander Graham Bell (b. March 3, 1847) makes the first sound transmission. (Bell was a Scottish-born scientist, inventor, engineer, and innovator who is credited with inventing and patenting the first practical telephone. He also founded the American Telephone and Telegraph Company in 1885.)

Astrologically, on June 2, 1875, the Sun was in “communications-guru” Gemini, at 11 degrees, and exactly sextiling inventive Uranus, at 11 degrees of creative, authoritative Leo. Pioneering Mars was also retrograde in Capricorn and in a tight opposition (within one degree) to Mercury in Cancer (Mercury rules telephones and communication and the sign of Gemini).

Meanwhile, energizing Mars was also transiting Graham’s 10th house of career (on June 2nd), and also sextile (within one degree) his natal Saturn (Saturn is not only the natural ruler of the tenth house, it can also represent our individual accomplishments/contributions to the culture).

Finally, Mercury in Cancer at 4 degrees was also exactly trining Bell’s Saturn at 4 degrees of imaginative Pisces. Mercury-Saturn energy can solidify or be foundational for communications. It also can symbolize scientific breakthroughs and enhanced powers of concentration.

“Concentrate all your thoughts upon the work in hand. The Sun’s rays do not burn until brought to a focus.”  Alexander Graham Bell

Bela Lugosi, daily astrology, daily horoscope, Mars enters Taurus, Mars in Aries, Mars semisquare Neptune, Mercury semisquare Pluto, Moon in Gemini

Cosmic Weather:

“It’s the steady, quiet, plodding ones who win in the lifelong race.” Robert W. Service

Mars exits new beginnings Aries today and sets up shop in stable, persistent Taurus the Bull (5:51 am), where it will remain until March 31st.  In Taurus, Mars energy is softened, a bit, as this sign is ruled by sweet, receptive Venus. Whereas Mars in Aries was also all about doing, initiating, and exploring, Mars in Taurus now is centered on beingness, rootedness, and acquisition. Mars learns patience and purposefulness in Taurus and, likewise, we are more apt to want to take our time now in executing matters, and do not want to be rushed. We also want to first understand the tangible value of doing something before we commit to doing it. Mars in Taurus now is an excellent time for putting the finishing touches on the projects that we began while Mars was in Aries, although today, with Mars making a semi-square with vague Neptune, we may potentially have a somewhat harder time getting motivated, or staying on track. Sometimes, too, with Mars-Neptune alignments, our physical energy is somewhat diminished so getting more rest may be something that is very beneficial for us now. Additionally, Mercury in Pisces is forming a semi-square to Pluto in Capricorn today. This can help to mentally focus our thoughts in a particular direction. The waxing Moon is also in curious Gemini, all day, and squaring expansive Jupiter in Sagittarius, so there can be an increased desire for learning or seeking out new information, new horizons.

“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.”  Benjamin Franklin

On This Day in History: On February 14, 1931, The original “Dracula” film starring Bela Lugosi as the titular vampire, is released. On that day, pioneering Mars was retrograde at 0 degrees of theatrical Leo! Bela Lugosi (b. 10/20/1882) also had, in his horoscope, transiting Saturn in Capricorn exactly trine to his natal Neptune in Taurus, a powerful planetary configuration for manifesting (Saturn) our dreams (Neptune). Neptune also rules film. By the way, natally, Lugosi’s assertive Mars was also in passionate, mysterious Scorpio, the sign of death and rebirth.

“The love-bite, it is the beginning. You will be irresistible.” Bela Lugosi

Happy Valentine’s Day! Mars in Taurus can be very sexy and sensual! 🙂

“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.” Lao Tzu

Heading into Monday’s Lunar Eclipse Full Moon in Leo, the energies are very strong and powerful today! We have a trio of major aspects now:

Venus in Sagittarius trines Mars in Aries ( 11:50 am): Venus and Mars are billed as the Cosmic Lovers so the prospects for romance are elevated today! 🙂 In general, this is very playful energy. A good day to simply enjoy ourselves. To engage in whatever activities are fun for us, that bring us pleasure. It’s an excellent time to express our emotions, to show others what’s in our heart. There’s a nice give and take now between the sexes. This influence helps our interpersonal relationships, overall. “Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures.” H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

Mercury conjuncts Pluto in Capricorn (3:01 pm): This is one of the best aspects for concentration! It really aids us in focusing on the matter at hand, thereby, potentially increasing our understanding. The truth is also more apparent to us now. On the flip side here, though, sometimes we can get so focused on something that it becomes an obsession with us. That can be when the Mercury-Pluto energy becomes problematic.  Yours truly was born with Mercury-Pluto in a tight square so I can personally vouch for its intensity! Mercury-Pluto can also help us to unravel mysteries by presenting us with secret information. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of detective Sherlock Holmes, was born with a tight Mercury and Pluto conjunction in Taurus.

Mercury and Pluto conjunct in Capricorn today should be especially good for any planning or organizing activities, including such things as succession planning. We’re also more willing to have conversations of a serious nature. Our words also seem to deliver more power or impact. “When you have eliminated all which is impossible, then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.”  Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

(UPDATE: As of today, President Trump also has reportedly banned members of Congress from traveling on U.S. government-owned aircraft during the government shutdown. An interesting Mercury-Pluto in Capricorn headline here, with Mercury ruling travel and Pluto signifying more crisis-related issues. Capricorn also rules government.)

Sun in Capricorn squares Uranus in Aries (8:30 pm): When these two heavenly bodies square off with each other, it’s always a good idea to be prepared for the unexpected! If we’re wise, we’ll also want to make sure we have Plan B ready to whip out today, just in case things don’t go as scheduled.

Sun in conservative Capricorn is more of a traditionalist at heart, usually interested in achieving things like security and status, while Uranus in Aries is more interested in trailblazing and expressing its true indviduality. So we potentially have that type of internal clash going on today. We may want to be careful, however, in not overturning things too quickly now, if we’re unhappy or dissatisfied with our circumstances. Rather it may be better to wait a few days for this more volatile energy to play out. Typically, Sun square Uranus can make us more bored with our routines, more eager for variety. “With rebellion, awareness is born.”  Albert Camus

The Moon also continues in flexible, curious Gemini today. An energy that supports the playfulness of the Venus and Mars, the mental probing of the Mercury-Pluto, and the desire for change that the Sun-Uranus is clamoring for.

*All times EST.

Famous Birthdays January 18: Cary Grant, Kevin Costner, Danny Kaye, Daniel Williams (he performed the first open heart surgery).

“Everyone wants to be Cary Grant. Even I want to be Cary Grant.” Cary Grant

This Date in History:  On January 18, 1919 the Paris peace conference ( aka the Versailles peace conference) opens to draw up the treaties formally ending the Great War (WWI). At the time, transiting Saturn was at 26 degrees of leadership Leo exactly opposite Uranus at 26 degrees of humanistic Aquarius. Mars was also at 23 degrees of Aquarius, getting ready to conjunct Uranus, and acting as a trigger for the more long-term Saturn-Uranus opposition. Regarding the symbology here, Saturn-Uranus oppositions can signal the ending of established, more rigid structures, a loss of power, and leadership lessons (Saturn in Leo). Uranus represents the rise of a new regime, or a new protocol (Uranus), ideally more reflective or responsive to the needs of the people.

Transiting Mercury in (government-ruling) Capricorn was also in an exact opposition to transformative Pluto in Cancer, that day. A similar influence to what we have going on now with the Mercury-Pluto conjunction. Mercury-Pluto aspects, as mentioned earlier, can signify times when we have to deal with more crisis-related matters; the peace treaty was being created to formally end the destructive WWI. Mercury also rules contracts or agreements.

Enjoy your day! Follow your heart’s desires.

Astrology January 17 2019, conversation, daily astrology, daily horoscope, Moon in Gemini, Muhammad Ali hometown airport renamed after him, power of talking, Prohibition goes into effect on January 17 1920

“I love to talk about nothing. It’s the only thing I know anything about.” Oscar Wilde

With the Moon in conversational, lighthearted Gemini the twins today, and aspecting Venus (social), Mars (enterprising) Neptune (idealistic), and Jupiter (abundance), it’s definitely a stellar time to mingle and have some fun. Especially since most people are apt be more agreeable and flexible now. The Moon, Venus, Jupiter, and Neptune are also all in mutable signs, which tend to be more accommodating by nature. Additionally, it’s a good day, perhaps, to find a way to creatively mix up work with a little play.

The Gemini Moon is in its strength zone making witty observations and comments about the world. It also relishes discussing its feelings.  And, while the activity of listening generally draws high praise from others – we’re always taught that it’s far more important to listen than talk! – talking also comes with its own set of perks. For one thing, it’s cathartic! It helps us to release or empty out what’s going on inside of us, often bringing us much needed emotional relief. Sharing our thoughts and feelings with others is also often a powerful way for us to be personally witnessed or validated. Which is also very important because, at the end of the day, all of us want to be heard, in some way, shape, or form.  Too, the more we open up and share with others, the more likely they will also feel compelled to do the same with us.  Potentially, a win-win situation for everybody. And a natural way for all of us, perhaps, to help spread love and connection around!

“It takes a lot of courage to show your dreams to someone else.” Erma Bombeck

Famous Celebs with Moon in Gemini: Barack Obama, Vladimir Putin, Khloe Kardashian, Tina Turner, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sigmund Freud

“Words and magic were in the beginning one and the same thing, and even today words retain much of their magical power.” Sigmund Freud

I was also reading something somewhere, the other day, similar in vein to this Freud quote. The writer likened words, themselves, to voodoo. Said that words can create spells. Think I agree!

Famous January 17 Birthdays: Michelle Obama, Jim Carrey, Muhammad Ali, Al Capone, Steve Harvey, Betty White

“Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.” Muhammad Ali

It was also reported today that the airport in Muhammad Ali’s hometown of Louisville, Kentucky will be renamed in his honor. Pretty cool!

This day in history:  On January 17, 1920, prohibition went into effect in the US as a result of the 18th amendment. Interestingly, at the time, the change-oriented, often chaotic planet Uranus was literally at the tail end of Aquarius, at 29 degrees 44 minutes. It entered alcohol-ruling Pisces, five days later, where it would stay for 8 more years. Prohibition would last for 13 years!

Hope you enjoy your day! By the way, operators are standing by, eagerly waiting to take your calls! What’s on your mind? 🙂

Astrology for January 16, 2019: The Comforting Familiarity of the Taurus Moon

“What makes his world so hard to see clearly is not its strangeness but its usualness. Familiarity can blind you too.” Robert M. Pirsig

The waxing Moon continues in the anchoring sign of Taurus the Bull today, until early tonight (8:00 pm), when it then enters curious, busy Gemini. With the Taurus Moon, the realm of the familiar tends to hold greater appeal for us now. Too, isn’t there always a degree of comfort in things always seemingly being a certain way? Some measure of sameness or familiarity in an ever-changing world, it seems, can be very steadying and reassuring for us on many levels. That is perhaps part of the inherent appeal and charm of the sustaining Taurus Moon. It could also be part of the reason why the Moon is said to be exalted in Taurus, or able to impart its maximum impact on us.

A pitfall of familiarity, however, is that it can sometimes make it harder to perceive something older in a brand new light. It’s like the pre-formulated expectations that we have about an established matter block us from perceiving it’s true essence or reality in the present moment. That’s why it’s often a good practice to try to evaluate things through different lenses, to look at things in different ways. An endeavor that has also been shown to very creative and healthy for our brains! A good workout for our imagination.

The Taurus Moon also trines the empowering Sun in Capricorn this afternoon (1:34 pm), its last major planetary aspect before leaving Taurus. The Moon trine Sun influence depicts a nice harmonious flow between the masculine yang (Sun) energies and the feminine yin (Moon) energies. This can be a period when we may feel more unified, internally, and possibly also an excellent time to gather public support (Moon) for our outward ambitions (Sun). This energy should be great for any self-promotion or promotion of our businesses. Good for meeting with higher-ups, bosses, or authority figures. We could also be formally recognized now for our past accomplishments. Probably a good day to seek out a raise, or at least make a good case for receiving one. There is potentially always more of a spirit of cooperation whenever the Moon and the Sun are trined to each other. The Sun is also conjunct the Moon’s South Node in Capricorn today. It could be that karmic issues centering around how we’ve handled our worldly responsibilities, in the past, seep into our day some way.

“Before I can become an expert on anything, I must first become an expert on me.” Charles F. Glassman

COSMIC WATCH:

Maybe, blame it on the “playful, yet studious,” void-of-course Gemini Moon, but, for some reason, I just felt like doing something a little different here, today. So, what I’ve done is embody, what I perceive to be, the “main cosmic energy” of the day into what I feel are three, suitable archetypal figures (or patterns of identity) below, and then formulated a few questions around them. Too, there are no right or wrong answers. More, it’s simply an exercise in what happens to come up for you in the moment. Hope you enjoy!

Who would you rather be holed up with on a desert island, and why?

  1. A reporter (Moon in Gemini)
  2. A monk (Sun conjunct Neptune)
  3. An “Olympic athlete” (Mars trine Saturn)

Which of the three do you think has the hardest job? The easiest job?

Which of the three would you be the least comfortable around?

How are all three roles similar?

If you had to reincarnate as any of the three, which one would you pick?

How might any or all of these three archetypal patterns also be playing out in your life, right now?

Of course, too, you may also want to come up with your own archetypes for today, especially if none of these resonate with you. You could also even choose archetypes that might be manifesting more of the darker side of today’s energy, simply as models of study. I also just thought of another question to ask: Assuming you believe in a Higher Power, if you were living your life purely from your Spirit or Soul today (Sun conjunct Neptune) – instead of from your “self-survival” oriented Ego – what might you be guided to do now? Any big changes you might consider making? Or, with what you currently have on the drawing board for your self, do you think you would you be following through with this agenda now – or might you be scrapping it, or possibly tweaking it, with your Soul at the wheel? Do you also see your life necessarily “as better” directed from your soul’s compass?

“Anything worth doing is worth overdoing.” Mick Jagger

COSMIC WATCH:

When is “enough,” enough? Or, when might “more,” be better? Those two questions might be timely to ask ourselves, today, as “pleasure-loving” Venus forms a square to “abundant” Jupiter (3:41 pm EST). Classically, in astrology, Venus square Jupiter has been a configuration linked with over-indulgence, or going to excess. It is also an aspect associated with opulence and royalty. Of course, with Venus in “passionate” Scorpio, a placement which, ideally, connects us with our deepest stirrings or longings, and “expansive” Jupiter placed in “theatrical” Leo, perhaps deliberately engaging in a bit of extravagant, lavish, or “over-the-top” behavior, may actually be a fun, harmless, self-expressive diversion, now, for those of us who are so inclined.

The Moon is also in “variety-seeking” Gemini, today, so including a buffet of experiences on our plate, would also likely work out best for us, now.

Some celebs with Venus square Jupiter in their natal charts: Dolly Parton, Julia Child, Alice Cooper, Oral Roberts, Robert Redford, Tina Turner, Betty White.

Question for Today: What do you want more of in your life?

In the News: With decision-maker Mercury nearing the “anaretic” degree (or 29th degree) of Libra (ruling the courts and justice), President Obama nominates Loretta Lynch, a Harvard Law grad, for his Attorney General pick to replace Eric Holder. If confirmed by the Senate, Lynch would be the first black woman to lead the Justice Department.

“What is wanted is not the will to believe, but the will to find out, which is the exact opposite.” Bertrand Russell

COSMIC WATCH:

With the Moon remaining in inquisitive Gemini all day, cozying up to our curious side opens the door to new discoveries. Albert Einstein once remarked that curiosity is even more important than knowledge. Perhaps this is because curiosity is a forward moving energy. It is nature’s trusted way of keeping us fully engaged with our lives.

Also, the Sun is aligned (sesquiquadrate) with perceptive Pluto. This pairing may find us going deep within ourselves looking for answers. Too, Pluto, which also governs alchemy, often puts our attention on matters that are either in a state of entropy, or in need of some kind of turnaround. Since the Moon is also in its waning phase, this is an especially good time for any purging (Pluto) or refurbishing projects.

Question for Today: What one question would you most like to know the answer to?

Famous August 19 Birthdays: Bill Clinton, Tipper Gore, Gene Roddenberry, Matthew Perry
