Cosmic Weather:

The authoritative Sun, symbolizing our ego and will, makes its annual conjunction with assertive Mars in investigative, transformational Scorpio today (12:42 am). Potentially inspiring us to confidently or courageously act upon or defend our deepest passions or ambitions. At the same time, perhaps stoking our desire for employing new methods, new approaches, including embracing/welcoming new beginnings. Existing situations could also reach pivotal turning points.

Planetary conjunctions represent birthdays, of sorts. Fresh starts.

To this end, Waxing Luna’s entrance into experimental Aquarius (6:28 am) also helps to support this more galvanizing, pioneering Sun-Mars energy.

While breakthroughs are possible – and perhaps more likely now – due, in part, to our potentially more determined, undaunted desire to go to the next level or see matters through to the very end, on the shadow side, we may also want to be more mindful of a tendency, at the moment, to go to extremes (the Scorpio energy), when perhaps a more nuanced approach might, ultimately, serve us better in the long run.

Too, proactively seeking to avoid engaging in more reactive behavior (such as throwing temper tantrums when something/someone provokes our ire) or taking measures to contain inflammable situations before they erupt or get out of hand may also go far to adding to the peace, stability, and success of the day.

On the other hand, now may also be a healthy time to share/vent how we really feel about things in a bid to clear the air. This is also a good period for purging/repurposing items.

Additionally, now could be a litmus test to see how well we are using/abusing/wielding our personal power. We may also gain a fresh new understanding or awareness concerning what really excites us at our core/what truly makes us come alive.

On This Day in History:  On November 18, 1963, Bell Telephone introduces the touch-tone telephone to customers in Pennsylvania. (Before this new advance, we had the old-fashioned rotary dial telephone.)

Astrologically, that day, enterprising Mars, in futuristic Sagittarius, was exactly sextile to solidifying Saturn in innovative Aquarius. An excellent influence for building upon the trusty structure of the past.

The Sun in Aries squares Pluto in Capricorn (9:27 am). This more intense, complicated aspect can often find us pushing too hard to control the scheme of things. We may also possibly perceive ourselves to be under attack, so we won’t let go. However, holding on too tightly now can also boomerang and work against us, in some instances, particularly by depleting (or exhausting) our energy. Included here, we may also become more aware of specific behaviors that are no longer serving us and should be purged or moved to the curb.

On the other hand, this is not necessarily a time when we need to give up on our goals. Especially those that are a central part of our basic self-expression, our personal identity, and or reflect our deeply held beliefs, values, or viewpoints. Instead, we may just need to retool things. To maybe fashion some new creative responses or strategies that allow us to express our personal power and purpose in a more unifying way on an energetic level; that plays to our strengths or hopes (and not to our weaknesses or fears).

The Waxing Crescent Moon also remains in versatile Gemini all day. Perhaps imploring us to make connections, seek out alternatives, verbalize our feelings.

On This Day in History: On April 16, 1943, Swiss scientist Dr. Albert Hofmann discovers the psychedelic effects of LSD.

Astrologically, that day, pioneering Mars was at 29 degrees of experimental, innovative Aquarius and applying to an exact quincunx to hallucinogenic Neptune (which rules psychedelic drugs).

Neptune was also Rx at 0 degrees and 1 minute of Libra, getting ready to re-enter the health-sign of Virgo. Neptune was an especially important “point-of-focus” in the sky then with its shift back into Virgo; Mars was also a key cosmic player at the critical “29-degree mark” – and getting ready to dive into Neptune-ruled Pisces.

Mars-Neptune influences are often associated with seeking out activities that give rise to a “feeling of transcendence” or wanting to experience somehow “otherworldly” connections.

COSMIC WEATHER:

Even though it’s the weekend, we may still want to challenge ourselves to do a bit of heavy “mental lifting” today as we have the nurturing Moon now eruditely scurrying through curious Gemini (at 3:20 am) and Gemini’s ruler, intellectual Mercury, exactly squaring off with probing, investigative Pluto (at 3:36 am).

This more intense, possibly more obsessive Mercury-Pluto energy is especially good for detecting or ferreting out secret information/covert messages, exposing hidden weaknesses, or possibly uncovering hidden motivations.

On the flip side, it could also raise awareness of privacy concerns. This astrological aspect is also sometimes linked with jaw-dropping, shocking plot twists!

Communicator Mercury also governs our speech or words and paired with riveting Pluto now our words may carry more dramatic impact or have an extra bite or zing to them. We may also potentially be more emotionally reactive now with respect to what we see, hear, or read, especially if we perhaps find the subject matter repugnant or repulsive or taboo, to some degree, which this type of cosmic energy also often seems to elicit.

More extremist viewpoints may also capture our attention, at this time, or be put before us in the spotlight in some manner.

Also, on the shadow side, there can possibly be more of a tendency towards bullying, ridiculing, or jockeying for power or position, including perhaps manipulating information as an attempt to further or strengthen our own self-interests.

Too, Pluto is associated with purging or removing whatever is outworn or expired and aligned with mental Mercury it could be that this is an excellent time to undertake efforts to rid or eradicate our psyches of some of what we might call “garbage-type thoughts” (our debilitating fears or miscellaneous prejudices, for instance) that all too often clutter or detract from our more wondrous sense of spirit or well-being or interfere with our ability for connectedness with others. Mercury-Pluto aspects are associated with seeking psychotherapy or otherwise wanting to heal or fix what’s seemingly broken inside of us or around us.

Pluto is also stationing retrograde today (at 2:54 pm) suggesting that we are now subtly shifting our focus or attention away from the more concrete manifestations of outer transformation to the invisible realm of inner transformation, including presumably beginning to more seriously process or decode now the philosophical meaning or psychological impact of what has perhaps recently been drastically altered or reconfigured in our lives.

Too, it’s always the deeper meaning that we assign to things that ultimately determine their lasting impact upon us.

On another level, Pluto stationing retrograde may indicate a pullback of power or support.

Pluto will stay retrograde until October 4.

Cosmic Weather:

Transformational Pluto conjunct the South Node in ambitious Capricorn today is potentially a chance for us to gain deeper insight (Pluto) into how we have perhaps been (South Node) wielding or managing our power, control, or authority in the world (Pluto) in order to attain outward success (Capricorn).

The South Node represents our habits or ingrained behaviors, while Pluto symbolizes, among other things, penetrating awareness, the urge for power itself, and also governs the principle of death and rebirth.

This conjunction, ideally, gives us a chance to let go of, or purge, ways of being that are no longer reflective of who we are, or no longer appropriate for us, so that we can move forward. Moving forward, too, in this case, also suggests moving toward the more feelings-oriented North Node in Cancer, as the North Node signifies our future growth, or where we are heading. In other words, we are allowing ourselves, with this aspect, the freedom now to express more of what is in our heart (Cancer), while, at the same time, retreating from a position of feeling that we must always be in charge or control of everything and everyone (Capricorn). Capricorn can also expose our previous cultural conditioning that orients us to do, perhaps, what is socially acceptable rather than what is totally honest for us.

Since Pluto also symbolizes what is below the surface, or at our core, including the realm of the unconscious, it’s possible that we may also experience now elements, situations, or relationships that unite us with our buried or more distant past. Again, too, the purpose of this re-emergence of the past is not to haunt us or to lay a guilt trip on us, but rather, to free us from whatever has been trapped inside.

On a non-personal level, Pluto conjunct the South Node can also shed light on tangible things or structures that are broken down around us that need to be either fixed, repaired, or replaced. This could include, for instance, discovering hidden foundational issues in a house or building. Or maybe finding out about hard-to-detect plumbing or sewage leaks. Isn’t it interesting, too, how the outer structures of our lives will often symbolically mirror or reflect what is going on with us on an internal level?

COSMIC WATCH:

Depending on where you live, this is the Sun’s last full day in “authoritative” Leo the Lion, the sign that it rules. Tomorrow, it will be entering “service-oriented” Virgo (12:46 am EDT).

With the Sun symbolizing our ego and personal sense of power, now that it’s exiting Leo, this may be a good day for us to reflect upon how we have been using our power to achieve our own ends. Has what we’ve been doing been working for us? Are we pleased with the results that we have been getting? If not, how might we shift things around so things work out more in our favor?

Too, sometimes when a planet is at 29 degrees, the Anaretic Degree, which is also known as the Karmic Degree, we feel more of a sense of urgency to express the particular energies of that planet – especially if we have had a struggle expressing these energies in the past. It’s kind of like making “one last stand.” So with the Sun at 29 Leo, this could possibly translate into our having more of an acute need now to demonstrate our personal power in the world, to weave our sphere of influence. Too, it could be that our ego (Sun) has a burning desire for more outward recognition (Leo).

COSMIC WATCH:

The Moon vacates self-indulgent Taurus for chatterbox Gemini (3:57 am EDT) quickening the pace of our responses and also making us keen on wanting to articulate our feelings with just about anybody who will give us five minutes.

We may even be willing to share some of our innermost, personal secrets today, as we have the illuminating Sun forming an opposition to “spy who loves me” Pluto (Pluto governs spies and espionage). Mysterious Pluto presides over our subconscious and when his shadowy ray is activated, we often “spill the beans” (purge) on private matters from A to Z. Too, the chatty Gemini Moon is more than happy to assist us here. 🙂

Sun-Pluto can be a very healing and transforming influence (Pluto rules rebirth), as it can serve to shine a light on certain things about ourselves, our motivations, etc., that we were previously unaware of, including suddenly making us aware of inner strengths or resources that we never knew we had before. Pluto rules the study of psychology and psychiatry.

When the Sun and Pluto are paired together, issues of power and control also tend to arise. Much of the time with this aspect, we are wanting more of both of these things. Too, because Pluto is connected with the hidden side of our nature, our darker impulses may manifest and we may be tempted to act in ways that could be described as more primitive. For instance, we may get more defensive and interpret things around us in more of a hostile or threatening manner, especially with the Sun in self-protective Cancer.

Again, the best antidote for any of this more unenlightened type behavior, is simply practicing self-awareness and keeping mindful of our mannerisms and inner stirrings. We also would be very wise to adopt more of a cooperative stance when dealing with others today versus unleashing our inner, unruly child.

IN THE NEWS: On the eve of this Sun-Pluto aspect being exact, late yesterday,  Illinois Governor, Rod Blagojevich, was found guilty of corruption and trying to sell President Obama’s Senate Seat. He could receive 20 years in prison. On the shadow side, Sun-Pluto reigns over corruption, manipulation, and misuse of power. Pluto is also in Capricorn, the sign of government officials.

On a more uplifting note, Rep. Gabrielle Gifford, also made her first, official, public appearance in six months, late yesterday, at a NASA event in Houston, with her astronaut husband, Mark Kelly. Gifford was shot in the head back in January during a mass shooting in Arizona. Her public appearance yesterday was certainly a more positive manifestation of this same Sun-Pluto energy. Too, with this influence, we often get a chance to see or witness things that have been hidden from view for a while. Gifford has been making a miraculous recovery from her injuries, again a testament to her own indomitable spirit and Pluto’s healing, transformational ray.

The Moon continues in active, adventurous Aries compatible for athletic endeavors and for taking initiative. The intellectual Gemini Sun is also forming a quincunx to probing, intense Pluto in ambitious Capricorn. The complex Sun-Pluto influence gives us more of a desire to go in depth and we may also be more talented at playing detective and solving mysteries.

Too, with Pluto ruling the process of elimination this is an excellent time for purging what is no longer needed, including ridding ourselves of any self-sabotaging habits. Sun-Pluto also equates to a need for power, although we would be wise to make sure that we allow others to have their input as well, instead of completely usurping the show (a Pluto tendency).

Pioneering Mars in practical Taurus is quintile to imaginative Neptune in visualizing Pisces making manifestation of our dreams and desires on this day distinctly possible. This is a very mystical and spiritual aspect that allows for rite of passage through rare portals leading to magical realms.

There’s a Full Moon at 29 degrees of flashy Leo today (3:36 am). Too, this Hollywood-style Full Moon does not disappoint in the drama department with its exact opposition to glittery, seductive Neptune in quirky Aquarius.

Full Moons traditionally deliver full illumination, although with Neptune’s veiled ray amplified here, it may be a challenge to decode what’s really going on around us now.

Ensnaring Neptune governs fantasy, illusion, dreams, delusion, sacrifice, surrender, self-doubt, escape. While the theatrical Leo Moon craves praise, applause and ego recognition.

It could be, too, that this Lunation serves as a barometer to check the health of our ego. Also, our susceptibility to flattery.

Additionally, this is a highly creative period, especially perhaps for filmmaking, acting, writing, dancing, music, and painting.

Also, at the time of this Full Moon, Love Goddess Venus, in professional Capricorn, is exactly square to withholding Saturn in romantic Libra, so it could be that we are a bit more measured in relationships now until we have a good sense of what we may get in return.

The song Stones’ Satisfaction is perhaps an apt tie-in with this particular lunation today, with the emotional Moon’s potentially ego-denying opposition to Neptune. A time when we may meet up with a certain amount of rebuff no matter where we turn. 🙂
