Cosmic Weather:

“Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in a while, or the light won’t come in.” Isaac Asimov

Intellectual Mercury trining optimistic Jupiter today (at 10:36 am) can ideally serve to broaden our perspectives as we are potentially more receptive at this time to sampling new information or at least toying around with new ideas, as expansive Jupiter symbolizes our ongoing search for higher meaning and purpose. Too, with Mercury still deposited in down-to-earth Taurus and Jupiter ensconced in professionally ambitious Capricorn, we may be particularly interested now in scoping out fresh ways to solidify our footing in the material world. Generally, Mercury-Jupiter is also excellent for all types of discussions or for drafting agreements or contracts, especially since there is normally more of a willingness now to bend or give a little in order to make things work.

The illuminating Sun in Taurus is also sextiling transcendent Neptune in Pisces, this afternoon (at 12:16 pm). This is a more subtle aspect that can nudge us to move beyond the realm of our everyday ego concerns or the mundane, to seek out something that speaks to the needs of our Soul or Spirit. It is an energy associated with such things as compassion, acts of kindness, and charitable giving. Archetypally, Neptune, known as the Great Dissolver, aims to unify or to remove the perceived boundaries or barriers that exist between us. Also, perhaps, a real-world example of Neptune’s influence: Two days ago, on May 8th, was the 75th anniversary of V-E Day, marking the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany to the Allied forces, ending World War II in Europe. Now, if we go back in time to see what was occurring astrologically on May 8, 1945, we find that assertive Mars in Aries (which rules war and the military) was exactly opposite Neptune, which was also in the diplomatic sign of Libra. Neptune here presumably helping to dissolve/defuse/dismantle the Martian aggression urge, ultimately paving the way for the prospect of peace again. Neptune is often a dominant factor in peace agreements or acts of surrender.

“Letting go gives us freedom, and freedom is the only condition for happiness. If, in our heart, we still cling to anything – anger, anxiety, or possessions – we cannot be free.” Thich Nhat Hanh

(Today’s Planetary Aspects: Venus conjunct Jupiter, 3:51 am; Moon opposite Mars, 1:32 pm; Sun trine Neptune, 5:10 pm; Moon sextile Neptune, 9:59 pm; Moon opposite Sun, 10:20 pm. Moon is in Sagittarius until 5:11 am, when it enters Capricorn; All times EDT.)

Cosmic Quote of the Day: “If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself.” Henry Ford

Isn’t it interesting that when we each focus on becoming more of what we already are, success is something that becomes almost a non-issue for us?

Today’s Energy:

A Full Moon in “ambitious” Capricorn occurs at 10:20 pm tonight. Full Moons bring heightened awareness, thereby allowing us to cop new perspectives. The Full Moon in Capricorn specifically affords us a chance to focus on creating more of a work/life balance – never an easy task! This is an excellent time to revisit those goals that we eagerly set, at the start of the year, and evaluate how we are faring with them. Are we still wanting to tow the line, or do we maybe need to make a course correction? Or, possibly we have gotten sidetracked, the last few months, and need to get back on track now with the personal vision that we hold for ourselves. A Capricorn Full Moon also puts the spotlight on those traditional elements that accompany our public image such as reputation, leadership ability, organizational skills, and career success.

Lovable Venus also exactly conjuncts benefic Jupiter today (3:51 am), an influence that has been building in strength, for the last few days. This is regarded as one of the most fortuitous, pleasurable, and romantic influences of all as expansive Jupiter, the purveyor of opportunity, magnifies all the best qualities of the charming Venusian energy. This conjunction also helps to re-set the socially reforming, albeit seemingly magical, Jupiter Uranus trine, which is still within a one degree orb from being exact. We tend to see the best in others now and want to do what is in our power to make others happy. Our mood is very warm, friendly and gregarious, although we could get a little carried away with self-indulgent behavior, especially since this influence tends to favor or court lavish celebrations or overtures. Of course, we could also counteract or neutralize this tendency, if we wanted to, by intentionally engaging in random acts of kindness, in an effort to spread the wealth and gaiety around. This aspect remains in effect for a couple of days.

Moon opposite Mars, 1:32 pm. We are poised to meet or achieve our goals, but may need to possibly counteract a tendency toward hypersensitivity, even bullying. Avoiding those who know how to push our buttons, too, is probably a smart strategy now.

Sun trine Neptune, 9:59 pm. This is a highly creative and imaginative aspect that kindles our humanitarian instincts and compassion. We are more willing to take a back seat to others now as our ego needs subside, although we may still need to be vigilant or discerning as to the sincerity of other people’s intentions. In general, this is excellent energy for dissolving differences, implementing peacekeeping measures or truces, both on an individual and a collective level.  Also, quite fittingly here, President Obama is reportedly set to unveil, today, a deal between the U.S. and Cuba that would reopen embassies and restore diplomatic ties that were broken more than 50 years ago (from AOL.com).

Also, Sun trine Neptune is an ideal influence for immersion in spiritual studies, meditation, partaking in retreats, taking trips by the sea, or any type of visioning work. Those who are artistically gifted may also find this energy great for doing photography, painting, sculpting, or watercolor.  This alignment is also, of course, a very nice complement to the loving, very generous in nature, Venus-Jupiter aspect, as they both potentially carry a lot of healing energy within them.  This influence will remain in effect for two or three days.

Famous July 1 Birthdays: Princess Diana, Pamela Anderson, Dan Aykroyd, Deborah Harry, Olivia de Havilland

“Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.” Princess Diana

Full Moon Blessings to you!

COSMIC WATCH:

“An idea is salvation by imagination.” Frank Lloyd Wright

Our creative and original ideas flow more freely with the colorful Sun in Leo’s harmonious trine to ingenious Uranus in new beginnings Aries, the planetary ruler of technology and innovation. Employing new approaches is likely the positive North Star that guides us to liberating changes today. Sun-Uranus also ignites an independent streak in us, emphatically reinforced by the Gemini Moon’s conjunction with adventurous Mars (12:56 pm EDT), which vets us for risk-taking.

Later, the Moon’s sextile to Mercury at the tail end of dramatic Leo (8:36 pm EDT)  affords us one last chance to make our points with extra grace and flair.

We wrap up the day with the Moon’s ingress into security-minded Cancer (9:12 pm EDT) which puts matters of the hearth front and center. Also, Luna’s trine to spiritual Neptune in meditative Pisces (9:34 pm EDT) sets the stage for deep reflection.

“Every artist dips his brush into his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures.” Henry Ward Beecher

Famous People with Sun Trine Uranus: Farrah Fawcett, Dick Clark, Muhammad Ali

Famous Birthdays: Peggy Fleming turns 63 today! This former professional ice skater and Gold Medal Olympic champion has her athletic Mars and imaginative Neptune conjoined in graceful Libra in her 10th house of career. Neptune is also the planet that governs the feet! Seems she picked the perfect career according to her stars.

Enjoy your Wednesday!

COSMIC WATCH:

“The gift of fantasy has meant more to me than my talent for absorbing positive knowledge.” Albert Einstein, a Pisces Sun.

Fantasy Neptune, ruler of our imagination and also the urge for escape, is captaining our ‘good ship lollipop’ today in oceanic Pisces. This is because not only do we have a Neptune-ruled, dreamy Pisces Moon all day, we also have the Sun in nesting Cancer trining inspirational Neptune. And, energizer Mars in idea Gemini is squaring Neptune.

With Neptune’s illusory ray so prominent now it is much easier for us to “go adrift,” so we need to be extra mindful about holding ourselves accountable with respect to whatever it is that we want to accomplish today. Although, at the same time, it may also be wise for us not to stack too much on our plates, if we can. Especially work that calls for strict attention to details or facts and figures.

Too, we do have the Pisces Moon void of course all day, so it is best to stick with old projects instead of undertaking anything new. We also are encouraged to focus our energies on more creative venues (film, photography, painting, dance, poetry). Immersion in more spiritual or mystical pursuits also serves us well now, as Neptune is our portal to Divine forces.

Also, if something seems a little fishy to us today, chances are good that it is and we may need to arm ourselves with a healthy dose of skepticism. Neptune, on the shadow side, characteristically has a way of pulling the proverbial wool over our eyes. It is the planet that is formally linked with deception, either self-deception or deception from others (con men). It is also tied with scandal and weird incidents in general (especially the Mars square Neptune aspect). Often the kind of strange stuff that we hear about, that has us scratching our heads, wondering what in the world a person was thinking? Neptune’s classic calling card. 🙂

In the News: President Obama is reportedly planning on addressing the nation tonight from the White House to discuss his plan for the withdrawal of armed forces from Afghanistan, something which is quite fascinating from an astrological standpoint, as we have Mars, governing war and the military, exactly square to Neptune which tends to act as a dissolving agent (diminishing the troop strength in this instance). Neptune is, in fact, known as the “Great Dissolver.”

From research I have done over the years, too, Neptune’s ray often figures prominently in historic peace efforts and treaty signings, reflective perhaps of Neptune’s overriding desire for “oneness,” or for a unified world “without division.”

One more thing. Gotta’ love this “fishy” Neptunian headline in the news today: “Chinese Find 55-foot sea monster!” Reportedly, the “sea monster” washed up on a beach in Guangdong, China. It’s decaying body weighed in at 4.5 tons. Unfortunately, the decomposition was too advanced to ID the remains.

Enjoy your Wednesday! But, be careful about drinking too much of the hallucinatory, Neptunian “Kool-Aid.” Don’t want you to have a hangover. Always trying to do our best to look out for you here. 🙂

COSMIC WATCH:

“We are not human beings in search of a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.” Teilhard de Chardin

There’s an abundance of mystical energy circulating around us today with expansive Jupiter’s opportunity sextile to spiritual Neptune, the planet that symbolizes our link to the divine. It’s a perfect day for meditation and prayer. Jupiter-Neptune can also inspire us to perform selfless acts of kindness and charity. Jupiter’s placement in practical Taurus also bodes well for turning our sweet dreams (Neptune governs our imagination) into delightful reality (Taurus). This magical Jupiter-Neptune influence will be lingering around for the next few days.

The presence of the Moon in health-conscious Virgo and Neptune’s placement in oceanic Pisces is also favorable now for all forms of water therapy as a way to rejuvenate our bodies and gently soothe our souls. Too, Neptune rules photography and visual images, so we may want to get out our cameras and create some new Kodak moments. Or perhaps thumb through old photo albums as a sentimental journey into our sacred Neptunian past.

COSMIC WATCH:

“Uncertainty and mystery are energies of life. Don’t let them scare you unduly, for they keep boredom at bay and spark creativity.” R.I. Fitzhenry

The Moon continues in active, adventurous Aries compatible for athletic endeavors and for taking initiative. The intellectual Gemini Sun is also forming a quinqunx to probing, intense Pluto in ambitious Capricorn. The complex Sun-Pluto influence gives us more of a desire to go in depth and we may also be more talented at playing detective and solving mysteries.

Too, with Pluto ruling the process of elimination this is an excellent time for purging what is no longer needed, including ridding ourselves of any self-sabotaging habits. Sun-Pluto also equates to a need for power, although we would be wise to make sure that we allow others to have their input as well, instead of completely usurping the show (a Pluto tendency).

Pioneering Mars in practical Taurus is quintile to imaginative Neptune in visualizing Pisces making manifestation of our dreams and desires on this day distinctly possible. This is a very mystical and spiritual aspect that allows for right of passage through rare portals leading to magical realms.

“To see a world in a grain of sand and heaven in a wild flower, hold infinity in the palms of your hand and eternity in an hour.” William Blake

Hope you have a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend! I am going to be taking a short vacation and will be away from here for a few days.

COSMIC WEATHER:

“All of our reasoning ends in surrender to feeling.” Blaise Pascal

The Moon enters “contemplative” Pisces today (12:58 am EDT) and immediately forms  a potent conjunction to Neptune, the ruler of Pisces (2:06 am EDT). This is the first time this has occurred here in about 150 years.  With this double-dose of  “Neptunian energy”  mystically engulfing us, there can be more of a desire to surrender to “unseen forces.” Neptune, of course, denotes our “link with the Divine.” It also represents our “urge for escape (fantasy),” and the impulse to avoid confrontation.

Ironically, with this more “retreating” Pisces Moon backdrop, we also have the more “high-drama” Venus square Pluto aspect (3:19 am EDT), which is, potentially, a more conflicting, confrontational type energy, that is linked with “depth of feeling” and “all-consuming” passion. Venus, again, rules love and relationships, and money and what we value. Pluto governs our “urge for reform” and also the “desire to purge.” It is tied in with power, control, erotica and sexual issues, compulsive-type behavior and feelings of obsession. Pluto also symbolically rules death. Its vibration is intense and laser-focused.

Often when we merge these two, with the “square” aspect often “forcing matters,” we see, on the shadow side, the emergence of some very thorny relationship, or money issues, especially if we are acting in a self-serving manner. It is suggested that, to avoid giving a platform to these problematic issues, we wisely refrain now from engaging in manipulative (Pluto) or controlling behavior and avoid deliberately pushing “hot button” topics. This also extends to the professional front, as Pluto is in Capricorn, the sign of career.

On another level, though, Venus-Pluto does sometimes have a healing or redemptive quality to it, and can also mark the beneficial ending (Pluto) of a personal or business relationship (Venus) that is no longer useful to us, or that has simply outlived its purpose. Moving on from such a tie now may actually be a potent way to “regenerate” (Pluto) ourselves.

To cite, perhaps, a high-profile example of this: Yesterday, on the eve of this aspect, came word that CBS Evening News Anchor, Katie Couric, would be leaving that post at CBS, when her contract expires at the end of June. Katie, a Capricorn, debuted as nightly news anchor when Saturn in entertainment Leo was exactly opposite hazy, dissolving Neptune in Aquarius (sign of broadcasting). The ratings for the program have never been very good. Often with Saturn-Neptune we experience more “ego-denying” experiences. Saturn-Neptune energy is often depicted as a time when the “rug is pulled out” from under us, a period when we do not receive the kind of support that we need.

Meanwhile, we also have a powerful “Sun trine Pluto” aspect today, with the Sun in pragmatic Taurus, the sign of money. This can also suggest that we can successfully make some practical (Taurus) reforms (Pluto) in our lives now. It also gives us more resolve to tackle difficult issues head-on with determination and courage. Sun trine Pluto can additionally bring about more “transparency,” as it can illuminate (Sun) previously hidden matters (Pluto). Although, we may want to be careful now that we don’t also “spill the beans” on things that we don’t want revealed.

Coincidentally, as I am writing this, a news report has just come out that the White House has released President Obama’s “long form” birth certficate today (transparency), in a bid to end a long-standing public controversy on whether or not he was not born in the U.S.  (The birth certificate shows that he was.) Also, today will be the very first time that the Federal Reserve (Taurus) has ever held a “press conference,” with Fed Chairman, Ben Bernanke, set to be grilled by the media. The Central Bank has traditionally operated with a high-level of secrecy (Pluto). Pluto also rules debt and credit issues.

Do you maybe feel a need for more transparency (Sun trine Pluto) in your own life today? Do you see where it perhaps could be helpful to you now, to share a secret about yourself, or to divulge some information? Too, sometimes when we do “unload stuff,” we do feel better, more freer. In other words, there can be a decided “cathartic” affect (Pluto) to the whole process.

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Each of us seems to have a main focus, a particular idea of practicality – a concept of ‘what we want out of life’ against which we judge our experiences.” Jane Roberts

The illuminating Sun, denoting our spirit, enters earthy Taurus today (6:18 am EDT), the sign of money and possessions (where it will stay for the next month).  The Sun in Taurus imbues us with a more practical focus and greater desire for stability.

The anchoring Taurus Sun also forms an interesting sextile to dreamy Neptune in oceanic Pisces. So, it could be that we are able to manifest (Taurus) some of our dreams (Neptune) today. Too, even though the Sun is now in tangible, down-to-earth Taurus, the Sun’s soothing linkup with spiritual guru Neptune helps to provide a certain mystical or reflective quality to this day.

The Moon’s entrance into visionary Sagittarius (2:51 am EDT) also serves to sort of reiterate this “transcendent” theme. Sagittarius the Archer encourages us to “reach for the stars” and broaden our horizons through travel, philosophy, higher education, religion. Lest we forget, too, we still have four planets in fiery, adventurous Aries with Love Goddess Venus also moving into that sign tomorrow.

In the News: Perhaps fittingly, with the Sun’s sextile to Neptune bringing “sea-worthy” things to mind, we are also poignantly marking the one-year anniversary of the BP oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history.

A year ago today, taskmaster Saturn at 29 degrees of Virgo (Virgo oversees the management of resources) was in a tight opposition to unpredictable Uranus at 28 degrees of Pisces (Pisces rules both the sea and oil). This opposition aspect can often be a more “disruptive” influence, especially when we do not “play by the rules (Uranus).” Saturn was also forming a challenging quinqunx aspect to confusing Neptune (the ruler of Pisces) at 28 degrees of Aquarius.

Saturn is often billed as the “Lord of Karma.” It is the planet of accountability and responsibility (it also symbolically represents the Earth). When we have more difficult Saturn influences we often experience the more challenging consequences of our actions (reaping our karma, in other words). Here in the case of the oil spill, BP has also reportedly acknowledged that serious errors were made leading up to the disaster (the ‘tried and true” Saturn protocol was not maintained).

Famous Birthdays April 20th: Ryan O’Neal (70), Jessica Lange (62). Also, my late dog, Coco (depicted below), would have been 15 years old today, so it’s kind of a sad day for me. Coco died two years ago. The latter portion of her life, she was blind, deaf and diabetic, but she never seemed to let any of that get her down. She was a real trooper (had an Aries Moon.) She was perhaps the gentlest animal I ever had. I miss her every day. Love you, Coco Puff! Your mama’s thinking about you.

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Few delights can equal the presence of one whom we trust utterly.” George MacDonald

The Full Moon in “partnership” Libra today at 27 degrees (10:45 pm EDT) puts a focus on our relationships with others. The Full Moon opposes the Sun in “self-discovery” Aries. When we have opposing energies, we are always needing to find a balance between the two forces. Here we are trying to balance our needs for cultivating our own healthy self-development while at the same time kindling or maintaining fulfilling relationships with others, something that many of us characteristically find rather difficult to do. Full Moons also help us glean “full awareness” of situations in our life, by “shedding more light” on them.

Too, with the Sun, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Uranus all presently positioned in Aries, we have a plethora of energy now for “self-focus.”  Also, as a result of this “Aries” thrust, many of us are learning new things about ourselves, and as we acquire this new self-knowledge, there can be corresponding impact on our external relationships. Often as we change and grow, so does everything else around us.

“Karma Lord” Saturn is also presently in the sign of Libra to teach us more wisdom on how to get along with others. Often with Saturn, too, we acquire this wisdom through the “school of hard knocks.” In other words, learning from our struggles and setbacks. Our breakups and heartaches.

Too, perhaps simply keeping in mind some of the “Libra keywords” now, such as diplomacy, cooperation, consideration, fairness, and politeness, and incorporating them as actions into our daily lives, may go a long way towards creating the “self versus others” balance that we are all striving for. Also, isn’t it so true, that when we help others achieve what they want, it helps us to get what we want? Something we may also want to take note of today, particularly with the energetic lineup in “self-serving” Aries, which is perennially searching for “what’s in it for me?”

The only aspect that the Full Moon in Libra is making is a quinqunx (adjustment) aspect to Venus, the planet of love and beauty. Venus is also the natural ruler of Libra. Venus is in “surrendering” and “caring” Pisces now (the sign representing our ‘link to the divine’), where she longingly yearns for the removal of all boundaries in her quest to be engulfed completely by love. Possibly yet another admonishment to us to somehow find a way to integrate our more egocentric, “temporal” nature with our more enduring, selfless, “divine” being.

“It is divinity that shapes, not only your ends, but also your acts, your words and thoughts.” Swami Sivananda
