A replenishing New Moon in pleasing Libra is occurring this morning (8:02 am EST), at 22 degrees of the sign, ideally setting the stage for a positive renewal of our spirit and emotions over the next few days. With a New Moon, we traditionally initiate new matters and, at the Full Moon, we start reaping the consequences of whatever it is that we have sown.
With this lunation occurring in diplomatic, sociable Libra we perhaps have greater opportunity to smooth out some of the rough patches in our life with a bit more finesse. It seems that our capacity for compromise, or give and take, is elevated. Our objectivity is also potentially enhanced due to the airy detachment of Libra the scales, the sign of justice and the courts.
The Moon’s wide trine to retrograde Jupiter in Gemini also serves to endow us with a clearer view of the big picture that we have fashioned for ourselves. Moon-Jupiter may also stoke our generosity and benevolence. We tend not to recognize any limits when Luna is serenaded by Jupiter, as our optimism and enthusiasm are on the rise.
Coinciding with this New Moon we also have energizing Mars in Sagittarius trining ingenious Uranus in Aries, suggesting that our brilliance and originality are more freely on display now. Also, our sense of adventure. This is an ideal time for experimentation and for setting aside our normal assumptions about matters. Mars-Uranus helps us to see things in bold new ways. It is an amazing aspect for shifting perspectives, or for brainstorming. Or for learning things of a technical nature. Also, for breakthroughs or firsts in science and technology.
Too, on the eve of this aspect, we had the Space Shuttle Endeavor’s historic arrival at Exposition Park in LA, where it will soon be permanently on display in a museum. Uranus governs aviation and spacecraft.
Also yesterday, Felix Baumgartner broke the “world ascent by balloon” record before space diving out of the Red Bull Stratos helium-filled balloon over Roswell, New Mexico. He became the first person to reach supersonic speed without traveling in a jet or a spacecraft.
Oprah Winfrey and Academy Award winning director, Oliver Stone, were both born with Mars trining Uranus in their birth charts. “I do believe there are leaders who are like lightning (Uranus) and they come along and they lead. The Lincolns of the world, the Alexander the Greats, they do exist. They have existed.” Oliver Stone.
Since the New Moon today also sets up a void of course Moon until the Moon enters passionate Scorpio (at 8:06 pm EST), we may want to wait until the Moon switches signs before actually embarking on any new beginnings. “You raze the old to raise the new.” Justina Chen Headley
New Moon in Libra Activities: Beautifying our surroundings, remodeling, socializing, throwing a party, mediations or negotiations, attending cultural events, shopping for luxury items.

Makeovers can be exciting and invigorating. They can also be an ideal way to sustain our existences, over time, as they inevitably help us to step outside of our comfort zones and experience or witness old elements in a brand new light. Including often allowing us to view ourselves with renewed fascination and interest. And, as our perceptions are stretched or altered, we unwittingly end up sowing the seeds of our own growth or evolution. “Man’s mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions.”Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr.
With transformational Pluto, the official “makeover guru,” stationing direct in Capricorn today (1:07 am EDT), after a five-month retrograde (review) phase, we seem to have symbolic cosmic approval to outwardly re-define or re-invent ourselves in healthy new ways now, so as to allow for the fullest expression of our authentic self. Pluto also archetypically representing what is essentially our raw essence, or what is often submerged or buried within us at the core levels of our being.
As is typically the case with purging Pluto’s activated ray, we may also have more of a passion now to divest ourselves of any elements that are outworn, dishonest, or redundant, in hopes that we will be better able to stand and flourish surrounded simply by our own truth, instead of being led by dictates formulated by others. “The whole point of being alive is to evolve into the complete person you were meant to be.”Oprah Winfrey
We also have the Moon entering Pluto-ruled Scorpio today (10:46 am EDT), where it will be joining galvanizing Mars on Wednesday. The very same day that radical Uranus is making yet another exact square aspect to game-shifting Pluto. “The dogmas of the quiet past, are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise—with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country.” Abraham Lincoln.

The Moon is in roaming Sagittarius all day, fueling our desire to want to explore open spaces and leave our magnificent mark on uncharted territory. This is perhaps especially the case, early on, when the Moon makes an opposition to energizing Mars in restless sightseer Gemini (7:56 am) and then trines mental Mercury in “thinking big” on the wild prairie in Leo (8:21 am).
A day, too, when we are more likely to want to vigorously share our homespun views and massive insights about the “big picture,” as the Sadge Moon tends to incite an evangelistic thread in us.
If we are also able to sell a little “snake oil” to fellow travelers on the mystical journey of life, so be it. 🙂

The Moon vacates practical Capricorn for objective Aquarius (2:00 pm EDT) allowing us to experience more of an emotional detachment with respect to our feelings. Mercury in energetic Aries also continues its opposition to serious Saturn in partnership Libra, perhaps inclining us to want to discuss more substantive (Saturn) issues with our mates, including maybe commitment? (Saturn)
This is also an excellent day for studying history or science, or for learning new technology. Too, it could be that with the smart Aquarian Moon, we are able to masterfully detect where the Easter bunny has hidden all the eggs. 🙂 Too, for those who celebrate it, Happy Easter!
Famous Birthdays April 24th:Shirley MacLaine (77), Barbra Streisand (69). BTW, Barbara’s horoscope is very similar to my own. We both have Sun in Taurus, Moon in Leo, and an Aries Rising. Too, I have always personally identified with Barbra, since I was a child. I think her personality is a lot like mine, particularly her sense of humor. Unfortunately though, for me, I cannot sing and I don’t have her kind of money. Also, I wish I had a man like James Brolin!
Too, a peek at Shirley MacLaine’s horoscope reveals that she has an analytical Virgo Moon conjunct mystical Neptune, perhaps why she doesn’t mind “going out on a limb” discussing her spiritual beliefs before the public (Moon). Of course, she is also regarded, by some, as being a little bit “spacey” (Neptune). The Moon not only rules the public, but it also governs our public image. Shirley also has expansive Jupiter in Libra in her first house, giving her grand creative (Libra) talents ( as both a performing artist and writer), and also making her a natural teacher (Jupiter). Additionally, she has innate ability as a “peacemaker” and “diplomat.” (Jupiter in Libra)
Oprah Winfrey recently had Shirley MacLaine on her program. Did you see the show? Oprah mentioned to Shirley that it was Shirley’s book, “Out On A Limb,” that significantly altered her own thinking on religion and spirituality. I was really surprised to hear her say that. Shirley also talked on the Oprah Show about her experience with “UFO’s.”

“Life’s challenges are not suppose to paralyze you, they’re suppose to help you discover who you are.”Bernice Johnson Reagon
Mixed bag of nuts today. We have the potent “Mars square Pluto” aspect exact (4:36 pm EDT). This influence has been applying for the last several days. Mars, ruler of our self-assertion and drive, can passionately empower us to take on formidable challenges, when aligned with intense, controlling Pluto. Mars-Pluto is perennially linked with wanting to wield power and influence in the world. (Oprah Winfrey has this aspect in her personal horoscope.)
We need to make sure, however, that we don’t overtax ourselves or surpass our limits with this influence. Too, we would be very wise to avoid power struggles, shoving matches, taunting behavior, etc. On the shadow side, Mars-Pluto can awaken and unleash our “inner bully.”
Mars-Pluto can also be “very transforming” energy, with Pluto ruling regeneration. Again, as I mentioned the other day in my blog on Pluto stationing retrograde, this is an excellent time to “wipe the slate clean” and to purge or eliminate what isn’t working in our lives.
Retrograde Mercury, ruler of our thoughts, is also back into an exact conjunction with “optimistic” Jupiter (11:59 pm EDT), ruler of philosophy and our higher beliefs and vision, academia, long-distance travel. On the plus side, the Mercury-Jupiter influence can make us more enthusiastic and upbeat, more high-minded in our thinking (a nice antidote for the Mars-Pluto “bully” mentality). Mercury-Jupiter is also an excellent time for writing.
The shadow side of this same aspect is we can become too boastful or arrogant (Jupiter). Too, with the Mars-Pluto aspect as a backdrop, this is probably not a good time to get into arguments over philosophical (Jupiter) differences, as they could very well escalate. Also, if we have any public presentations or speeches (Mercury) to make, we will want to make sure that we have “all the facts” straight ahead of time (Mercury-Jupiter tends to exaggerate), in case we later get “called on the carpet” (stickler Pluto). However, if we do diligently cover our bases, we could be very compelling and persuasive as a speaker (or writer) now, especially if we sprinkle in some of the famous “Jupiterian” humor.
BTW, do you think you have a good sense of humor? May want to check out the positioning of Jupiter in your chart and see how it’s linked up to the personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus or Mars; or the Ascendant; or 3rd or 9th houses) for further astrological insight and confirmation. We mentioned Oprah Winfrey earlier, she also has her Mercury (communication) trine Jupiter in her horoscope, so she has no problem seeing humor in things. Too, that endows her with natural ability to make people laugh. (Mercury-Jupiter is also the hallmark of a teacher or preacher.) Comedian David Letterman (who has a birthday tomorrow) also has his Mercury exactly trine his natal Jupiter. David is also a writer and that is excellent for that outlet. Funny man, and also writer, Woody Allen has his Sun conjunct Jupiter, a similar influence-type influence, as does actor James Garner.
“A sense of humor… is needed armor. Joy in one’s heart and some laughter on one’s lips is a sign that the person down deep has a pretty good grasp of life.”Hugh Sidey
Famous Birthdays April 11: Ethel Kennedy (83), Joel Grey (79).
In the News: With the potent “game-changing” Mars-Pluto aspect exact today one of the news headlines this morning is about President Obama’s press conference that is slated for this Wednesday. Obama will be unveiling his package of proposed spending cuts for the future, including proposed cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, and changes to Social Security, in a bid to tackle this nation’s deficit crisis (Pluto rules debt). Higher taxes (ruled by Pluto) are also reportedly going to be proposed for the wealthy (Wall Street Journal).

COSMIC WEATHER: January 11th through the 16th
Mental Mercury (communication) and manic Mars (aggressive urge) are hogging most of the astrological press this week. That’s okay. We’ll respectfully give them their fifteen minutes.
Mercury wraps up its stay in visionary Sagittarius, dutifully heading for the ambitious, goat-studded hills of Saturn-ruled Capricorn (January 13th). Our thoughts become more practical, more focused.
Also, self-assertive Mars shifts out of conforming Capricorn for Aquarius’ more non-conforming terrain (January 15th), which is psychedelically-peppered, at this time, with aging hippies, awkwardly still trying to “do their own thing,” despite all the intense years of pot-smoking and skinny-dipping. Uranus-ruled Aquarius, a sign that likes to wickedly “bend the rules,” fully embraces diversity, even the die-hard, hippie kind. It’s probably a good thing, too, that the hippies at least have a place to go to, a sign to “call home.” 🙂
With Mars in Aquarius now, too, it’s possible that we could even temporarily befriend one or two of these tie-dyed beings. Maybe help them to find their way, or whatever it is that they still are looking for. Maybe another Woodstock? Could be they are sticking around to see the re-emergence of bell-bottoms as a major, hot fashion trend?
January 11th: Talker Mercury meets up with big hips Jupiter in blabbermouth Sagittarius. The end result: No one gets to have the last word on anything! Steady diet of redundant chatter permeates the air everywhere. Unless we have plenty of time on our hands, it’s best to refrain from asking anyone about their personal religious or political beliefs, or about anything controversial, for that matter, as we will likely be going at each other’s throat until the cows come home. Too, we tend to zealously over-estimate our humble abilities now, i.e. bite off more than we can chew, both literally and symbolically.
Also, we need to carefully, and systematically, scrutinize documents and contracts closely, before putting our ‘John or Mary Doe’ on them. With Mercury-Jupiter, we tend to “gloss over details,” as we’re thinking too much about the “big picture.” Mercury-Jupiter is all too often linked with misunderstandings because we tend to get sloppy or arrogant in our thinking and assume too much.
Moon in pioneering Aries still has us “blazing new trails,” although the opposition to taskmaster Saturn (8:48 pm EST) may temporarily put a roadblock in our path.
Questions to ask ourselves today: Do we tend to talk too much? Often put our foot in our mouth? What shuts us up quickly? What is our favorite topic to talk about?
January 12th: We are much more likely to feel comfortable taking unorthodox approaches with things, especially on the professional front, as we have enterprising Mars in industrious Capricorn sextile to innovative, freedom-seeking Uranus in creative Pisces. Job seekers may want to try new strategies today, particularly utilizing opportunities provided by social networking (Uranus rules the internet).
We all tend to shine more by inserting our clever originality into the picture, instead of mindlessly subscribing to the fuddy duddy status quo. The Universe is beckoning, actually clamoring for us today, to deviate from the norm. To venture outside of our cozy, designer-decorated boxes. Too, if we are up to serious mingling with others, we may get a chance to interface with highly progressive types, who can really move us forward, with their ingenious, if not wacky, off-the-wall ways of thinking.
For those of us who still maintain an active, or even a semi-active sex life (ruled by Mars), that intimate activity could possibly become more exciting now by trying out new, inventive “night moves” in the bedroom. Or, we may want to continue doing the same, sexy little things that we always do under the sheets, but with new lovers. Mars-Uranus likes to experiment, and also endows us with more of a scientific bent. Just pray that white laboratory mice don’t somehow enter into our nighttime equation.
The Moon also vacates accelerator Aries for lusty, self-indulgent Taurus (10:37 pm EST), which also may help our feverish, nocturnal meanderings. Chocolate, too, may be an especially heady aphrodisiac now. (Moon is in Taurus till the 15th.)
Probing questions to consider today: What is sex? Is it something we engaged in at one time with another person? Is there anything we can do now to hasten the return of it to our lives, now that we finally have this sexual Mars aspect beaming down upon us?
January 13th: Our enthusiasm knows no bounds as sexy, go-getter Mars sextiles fortuitous, expansive Jupiter, who is likely toting a large bag of goodies for us. This is a super aspect! Great time to forge ahead with important projects, get things done, especially anything business-related, as Mars is still in ambitious Capricorn, which rules status, career, and reputation. Also a more positive time for dealing with bankers, members of the military, politicians, journalists, writers, publishers, lawyers, teachers, travel agents, clergy, and athletes. Physical fitness and sports-related activities additionally get the green light. We’re loving competition now, as it gives us a golden chance to strut our hot stuff all over the place!
Our thoughts also become more pragmatic and serious today with Mercury’s return to utilitarian Capricorn, where it will stay until February 3rd. We excel now by adopting a communication style that is more purposeful and strategizing. It is also critical now that we let others know exactly what it is that we are hoping to accomplish with respect to our major goals. A time to enlist the support of higher-ups to our causes.
Possible questions to ponder now: What floats our boat? What gets us excited? If we could magically do anything today, what would we do? What are our goals for 2011? What can we do this very day that will help to move us forward, closer to attaining those goals?
January 14th: Moon continues in acquisition-minded Taurus, which governs money, possessions, and what we esteem or value. Our values, too, can often be decoded by what we spend our money on. We may want to focus now on practical ways to build up our precious nest egg, while simultaneously luxuriating around the house in our silk pajamas eating bon-bons. The Venus-ruled Taurus Moon is all about seeking out decadent pleasure, creature comforts, indulging the physical senses, in addition to having to grapple with the often “weightier issue” of procuring material security, a matter which can often feel like having a big “noose around our neck,” especially in today’s challenging economic climate.
Things to think about today:Are we satisfied with our present financial situation? Do we have enough money coming into our household to meet our daily needs, and to also lead the lifestyle that we desire? Too, are we grateful for the things that we already have in our life? Are we managing our resources diligently, or do we squander our money? Are there any steps that we can maybe take now to make our lives more materially-secure?
Also, in our quest for material abundance, should we try, perhaps, to get on the Oprah Show, before she goes off the air, in hopes that she will be characteristically playing Santa again in the near future? Maybe we should also go so far as to suggest to Oprah, maybe through an email to her website, oprah.com, that she make every future Oprah show, this 2011 season, a yuletide-spirited “favorite things show,” since this is, sadly, her last go round (aside, of course, from OWN), and that lucky Jupiter is still technically and philanthropically aligned with Oprah’s ruling planet, Uranus, which also rules broadcasting (Oprah is an Aquarian). Point out to her that it is “clearly written in the stars” for her to keep playing a generous Santa-type role now, since Jupiter rules Santa Claus, and she is in Uranian-ruled broadcasting, and these two planets are together now. Also, make her existentially aware of the fact that this same “Jupiter-Uranus configuration” is the very “believe in miracles” thing that she is always alluding to in her insightful, consciousness-raising dialogue with us. Don’t anyone say, either, that this is “too much of a stretch” here, about the possible Oprah involvement or rescue in our lives. We have all simply got to believe this, in order to achieve it! Jupiter-Uranus in visionary Pisces is about dreaming, and hope for a bright future, especially one with Hugh Jackman in Australia. We can’t help it if lovely, dear Oprah, just happens to be part of the equation. Simultaneously, we are very glad and thankful that she is.
It’s very cool, too, that when the magical Jupiter-Uranus aspect was exact to the minute last week, “St. Nick” Oprah publicly discussed making “Ted Williams,” an ex-radio announcer, the official voice of the OWN network. Not sure if this is going to happen, but we have got to love Ted’s timing! Surfacing when he did, thanks to that fortuitous, caring newspaper guy at the Columbus Dispatch, originally spotting him, and later going to bat for him by posting his encounter with Ted via a Pisces-ruled video on the Uranian-ruled internet. Uranus also rules radio announcers, with the Jupiter-Uranus aspect here, helping to miraculously sweeten their lot. So glad for all the success and love swirling around Ted Williams.
(Since originally writing the above on Monday, Ted has reportedly entered rehab for his alleged addiction problems. Apparently, with prompting from television’s Dr. Phil. Jupiter’s intrinsic nature can be protective, and aligned with Uranus, there can be a sudden “awakening” and swift movement in our affairs. Pisces also governs rehabilitation and rehab centers. Neptune, Pisces’ ruler, is associated with addiction and dependencies. Hopefully, Ted will now be able to acquire the care that his spirit maybe needs, so that he can continue positively on his path. To go from homelessness, to overnight celebrity on a world-stage, I believe, would be very stressful for most of us.
Another thing that I think has been enlightening about this Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Pisces now, on more of a collective basis, is that by hearing about Ted’s story, hearing about his struggles over the years, and his battle with his addictions, we are becoming keenly reminded again about the matter of addictions, a Pisces-related subject. (Too, of course, there has been the ongoing, high-profile story of Lindsey Lohan and her alleged addiction problems.)
So many of us privately suffer from addictions, whether to food, drugs, sex, etc. Also, ironically while writing/updating this right now, I just came across a news story that said that Oprah reportedly told Piers Morgan in an interview that she coped with depression, at one time, by eating “30 pounds of mac n’ cheese!” This overeating or binging by Oprah reportedly was a way of coping for her, in the face of her movie, “The Beloved,” flopping at the box office, sending her into a temporary, downward, emotional spiral. Also kind of weird here: Ted Williams just made those four Kraft Macaroni and Cheese commercials last week, as part of his newly-found fame. Could there be a possible Jupiter-Uranus connection to all this? The plot thickens! Or, would we be more technically correct here by saying, “the cheese melts?” Hopefully, too, Oprah won’t be tempted again to fall off the wagon, with the mac n’ cheese, despite Ted’s inadvertently “rubbing her nose in it” by recording the commercials.
In addition to representing addictions, Pisces also denotes those persons who are disenfranchised or downtrodden. Or maybe confined, hidden away. Or people who are simply “down on their luck,” with their voices suppressed or muted, or problematic, for one reason or another. Perhaps some of these individuals lead more nomadic type lifestyles i.e. are homeless, like Ted Williams. Or, it could be that they are mentally or physically ill. Also, of course, there is the very tragic matter of that shooter in Tucson, allegedly suffering from serious mental illness, who has suddenly come on all our radar screens now in the worst possible way. The “Pisces” experience often symbolizes that part of life that we prefer not to think about, or psychologically visit. As it can show us our limitations, our afflictions. Our pain and desperation.
Pisces, as a level of experience, however, can also nobly point out to us the deep need, both individually and collectively, for having sympathy and extending compassion. Reminding us of the basic fact of life on the earth plane: That, in the end, we are all “our brother’s keeper.” That it is also not always a wise idea to prematurely “assign judgment or blame.” That we are all vulnerable, from time to time, in our lives. That we can also all thrive and benefit sometimes from an angelic, caring, helping hand. Sometimes even a simple smile, or a kind word, can give someone infinite hope and faith and help someone to rise above the ashes.)
“He who sows courtesy reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love.”St. Basil.
January 15th: Energy planet Mars, symbolically depicting the urge for self-assertion, takes the big plunge and officially sky-rockets into hi-tech, futuristic Aquarius, the opinionated, scientific home of wacky astronomers waxing delusional and very bitterly about 13 zodiacal signs. (See link below) Mars will stay in this sign until February 22nd.
With Mars in Aquarius, a sign which represents cultural diversity and “changing things up,” we are eager to venture off into unchartered waters, as long as we are able to cart along, of course, our smartphones and other technological gadgetry. Aquarius rules innovation and invention, especially more of a scientific or technological nature.
Theoretically we “progress” now by embracing or cultivating change, and utilizing new approaches or strategies in our daily endeavors. As part of this orientation we may want to collaborate with more original-type thinkers, or more non-comforming types, to get a fresh take on things. We may want also to expand our networking efforts now and get involved more with group causes, or group ventures (Aquarius rules groups and friends). Mars in Aquarius = energy for groups.
The Moon also enters curious, loquacious Gemini today. In Gemini, the Moon provides us with more of a penchant and willingness for flexibility, as well as more of an ability to go with the flow. We’re not as rigid now, and we’re also wanting to physically move around. We have more of a capacity to see the humor in any situation, too, as this Moon tends to be more light-hearted. Humor is a positive trait that often gets overlooked, but it’s something that can come in handy for coping with the mighty stresses and woes of living in Madonna’s material world, but, unfortunately, without Madonna’s nifty checkbook.
Questions to entertain today:How are we about embracing change? Do we welcome new strategies, or prefer to stick with the tried-and-true? Is there any one area in our life now that could perhaps benefit by employing new methods? If we could change one thing about ourselves, what would it be? What is the most off-the-wall thing we have done in the past year? Have we even done anything off-the-wall, lately? If not, why not? Could it be that we are packaged too tightly, and that we should give ourselves permission to roam around a little, or a lot?
“They must often change, who would be constant in happiness or wisdom.” Confucius
(Follow this link below about Astrologer Jeff Jawer discussing the matter of the zodiacal signs and the tropical vs. the sidereal zodiacs)
January 16th: Moon continues in cheerful, chatterbox Gemini. We’re more predisposed to reveling over gossip at the water cooler today, in our glorious quest to gather information. No matter whether or not there is a worthwhile component to the info. It’s the gathering process, the collecting of data, which is most important to the Gemini Moon. Reading, conversation, short trips can stimulate now. Great time for any sales or cold-calling activity, or for matters of self-promotion.
Later, an important bond or tie could also be formed with the Moon’s magical trine to stabilizing Saturn in partnership Libra (3:47 pm EST). A perfect time then to communicate our more serious intentions.
Questions to possibly grapple with today:Is there something, a subject matter, that we have been dying to talk about, for a while, but have been hesitant to do so? What has been holding us back from having this conversation? What are some of our favorite words? If we had to describe ourselves in one word, what would that word be? Lovable? Toxic? Brilliant? Sensitive? Diabolical? I think for me, I would have to go with “light-hearted.”
“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.” Mary Engelbreit.
Have a great week! Reach for the stars! Including here, of course, Hollywood stars, like George Clooney. Keep hope alive! 🙂

“You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else.”Albert Einstein
The Universe must have great confidence in our multi-tasking abilities. Unless, it’s deliberately being sadistic with us! What I am alluding to here is the fact that we have several potent aspects stacked up on our plates today to existentially grapple with. Of course, the real biggie is the New Moon Partial Solar Eclipse at 13 degrees 39 minutes of Capricorn, the first lunation of the new year. We have six eclipses on tap for this year: four partial solar and two total lunar. We haven’t had this many partial solar eclipses in one year since 1982, the same year that Michael Jackson released “Thriller,” the biggest selling album of all time. Also, that was the year that the Vietnam Memorial was formally dedicated in Washington D.C., occurring only a few days before MJ’s “Thriller” release in late November 1982.
Ironically, the original chairman of the Vietnam Memorial project, John Wheeler, was found murdered this past New Year’s eve. His body was tragically found in a landfill in Delaware. Also, today, it’s kind of weird, but Dr. Conrad Murray begins to testify in a pre-trial hearing in a court in LA with respect to MJ’s death. Of course, neither of these events have anything to do with the eclipse today. Just two interesting parallels that I thought I’d point out, since I happened to stumble upon them by accident, when I was reviewing events in 1982 in Wikipedia for this blog today.
Solar and lunar eclipses are special new and full moons. They often usher in notable events, for both individuals and the collective. Eclipses often “speed things up.” They can suddenly open up new doors for us. Monthly new moons traditionally denote new opportunities, with the eclipse being somewhat the equivalent of a new moon on steroids. The impact of an eclipse can last up to six months. Too, sometimes the affects of an eclipse are not felt immediately.
The few days right before the eclipse are especially highly-charged, and it is on those days when we really want to think about, and formulate, our new moon intentions, and make time for serious prayer and meditation. Especially advisable for single women now: Profoundly meditating on the sacred image of George Clooney. This is largely because George also has his natal Moon in Capricorn, closely conjunct cautious Saturn. Just thought I’d throw that in here. So George doesn’t think we’re completely abandoning him, caught up in all the momentary hoopla of the red hot eclipse. 🙂 (Also, at this end of this blog, I have included a bit about a real-life dream that I just had about GC, if you’re interested in reading about it. It was really, more like a nightmare!)
Those who have planets or horoscope angles from 10 to 17 degrees of the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn), will likely be most impacted by this eclipse. Also, all of us need to note the house in our birth charts where the eclipse is occurring, as the affairs of that house now are definitely being energized, and likely awaiting prompt, eager response from our delicate little brains.
Of course, whether any of this “opening door” stuff will also coincide with the miraculous arrival of the Publisher’s Clearing House sweepstakes crew to our front door, is highly doubtful. Although, we should never entirely give up hope here. I, for instance, just ordered 320 new magazines for the year in an earnest bid to effortlessly guide the PCH folks to the exact location of my house. I also have pictures of the late, great Ed McMahon, posted on my street mailbox, and in them he’s further pointing the way to my front door, as I have known about this eclipse for many months now and its’ possible ramifications for my life, if I take certain, drastic measures.
Capricorn is symbolized by the goat climbing up the mountain, with the mountain personifying success. Capricorn wants to be successful in whatever it does, so this eclipse new moon will likely have the net affect of firing up our ambitions. It’s the perfect time to really get going on our new year’s resolutions, be it to lose weight, or become chairman of the board. Win the PCH sweepstakes.
Arianna Huffington, in her “Sunday Roundup” at The Huffington Post on Sunday, mentioned that, this year, she was “deleting” some things from her resolution list, that she earlier thought she would do one day, but realizes now that she will never do. She is checking these resolutions off “as complete,” and crossing them off her list, so she can focus on “freeing up space for those projects” she is truly committed to. This is very reflective of the typical Capricornian-mindset, which is very utilitarian and realistic in its approach.
Also read in the Wall Street Journalthat Oprah Winfrey doesn’t even make resolutions anymore. She was quoted in there as saying: “I don’t make them, because I live in the space that I’m in right now. I move with the flow, live in the moment.” I guess, that approach also has its useful (Capricorn) advantages to it, as with that philosophy, you are maximizing, or at least attempting to anyway, what the present has to offer, instead of focusing on a future that is not at all guaranteed. Although, Capricorn also tends to be very cautious, likes to always have a plan in place, and is generally not very impromptu.
A Capricorn eclipse most likely will not bring us rapid fire gains, but rather signifies success as a result of self-discipline, commitment, hard work, and being pragmatic. Capricorn is not comfortable getting dragged into any obscure, or pie-in-the-sky endeavors. It wants to know, from the get-go, what it is dealing with. This may be especially the case, this go-round, as the eclipse forms a tight square with Karma Lord Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn. Saturn perennially delights in holding our feet to the fire, making us accountable. Both Saturn, and Capricorn, are totally turned off by irresponsibility. It could be, too, that this eclipse coincides with a more difficult time for persons in positions of power or management. Especially for those who have been under-performing, as Capricorn rules authority figures, and the Sun denotes leadership.
With the “Saturn square,” too, we tend to be more critical (Saturn) of our leaders and higher-ups, much less willing to cut them any slack. Could be, too, this eclipse is a catalyst for changes in many corporate boardrooms around the world. Changes that could even trickle down to the local PTA hierarchy level. Maybe even into our own workplace offices. Of course, we also have the new U.S. Congress taking office, this week, with a Republican-controlled House, voted in on an apparent mandate to cut spending (synonymous with this Capricorn eclipse more “budget-minded” mentality).
Too, it appears that Capt. Owen Honors of the USS Enterprise is going to be officially relieved of his duties, perhaps as early as today, for airing lewd videos for his crew aboard the aircraft. While this airing actually occurred a few years ago, his activities were only really publicly brought to light on the eve of the eclipse. Fascinatingly, Jupiter and Uranus are exactly conjunct in Pisces now, the zodiacal sign which rules film-making. Jupiter-Uranus can bring about sudden revelations!
The Jupiter and Uranus exact conjunction in watering hole Pisces (7:50 am EST) is, in fact, a big player in today’s lunation chart. These two guys have become pretty good drinking buddies, as of late. They have been basically paired up with each other for the last six months or so. Mostly in caring, underdog, dreamy Pisces, a short time in adventurous Aries. They are both headed back to Aries this year. Jupiter and Uranus won’t be conjunct again, however, until 2024. So this aspect is big news.
Again, Jupiter-Uranus can bring sudden breakthroughs (esp. in science, technology, internet) that significantly change or alter the playing field, both individually and collectively. Mentally, we may also envision grander possibilities for ourselves, perhaps see things in a totally new light. This is because Jupiter tends to expand or grow our consciousness. It is the planet of opportunity and abundance. Innovator Uranus, denotes change, and sudden flashes of genius and intuition. Uranus additionally rules humanitarian causes, and equality issues. Pisces, too, is a very compassionate sign. President Obama, for instance, just signed a big bill on Monday to give 9/11 first responders health care benefits. Was there ever a group more deserving? I don’t think so. It is also very exciting that we have this upbeat conjunction in place with this more practical Capricorn eclipse, as it gives us a desire to dream big (Pisces rules dreams), yet at the same time we are aware that we must work hard to turn our dreams into reality.
Additionally with this Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in place, we recently saw the historic repeal of the DADT bill in the U.S., which prevented gays and lesbians from serving openly in the military, a big leap forward for our nation, in my opinion. Another example of Uranus coming to the plate for us for equality and civil rights issues. I also mentioned in the last eclipse report for late Dec., that this same conjunction in 1969 in the sign of Libra coincided with the first “Moon walk,” yet another leap for all of mankind.
Also, there was more news, yesterday, of a possibly big breakthrough in cancer screening, in which even just one cancer cell may be able to be detected in the body. Wouldn’t that be great? How many lives might be saved with early detection? My mother sadly died of cancer on January 3, 1996. I also lost my husband to cancer. Who among us had not lost somebody to cancer? I wager to say, none of us.
To discern this conjunction’s magical meaning in our own lives, we should look to see the house that it is falling in, in our personal charts, to see where we may be experiencing sudden breakthroughs, or be arriving at fresh new understandings. Maybe even where miracles may be occurring. And, of course, we may have been already experiencing some of these things for the last several months, as this is the final phase of this opportunity cycle. Also, those persons who have planets or angles in their horoscopes at 27 degrees of the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) are going to be impacted the most by this final pairing of these two planets. I have my Jupiter at 27 Gemini, so, I guess, I am among the “chosen few” here. Could be because of my annual contribution to PCH. Jupiter in Gemini loves to read.
Finally, love goddess Venus (ruling relationships and money), presently deposited in the latter degrees of passionate Scorpio, also figures prominently in today’s lunation chart. Venus is exactly square to Neptune and Chiron in Aquarius, and she is also in a magical, harmonious trine to the Jupiter and Uranus conjunction.
Venus-Neptune is all about glamorizing or idealizing romance, having fantasy or phantom lovers (GC?), romantic involvement with individuals who are often, in reality, not at all as they appear to be on the surface. We can also fall head over heels for people who are not free (could be married or otherwise committed), or they are maybe on a different wavelength than us. We can also be tempted to play the role of martyr under this influence. Neptune rules actors. artists, musicians, creative types in general, so I guess now, I am personally very vulnerable since I have a crush on both Clooney (actor) and Jagger (musician). 🙂
Venus-Neptune is a classic deceptive marker, so we need to be very careful that we are not lied to and played like a fiddle for a short time, and then sadly dumped by the curbside for Monday morning garbage pick-up. New romantic relationships that strike up now need to be given the test of time, to see if the other person can really, “walk their talk,” and chew spearmint gum at the same time! Few can. Also, we may want to run in-depth background checks on these new lovers. Definitely we need to be cautious about giving them any of our hard-earned cash. Additionally, we may want to lock up our valuable art work, especially our prized “paint-by-number pieces,” as this is a shifty influence associated with art thefts!
Simultaneously, Venus in Scorpio trine Jupiter and Uranus in spiritual Pisces could signify for us the formation of new, expansive relationships and friendships with more “highly-evolved” types, who are into helping humanity. Or, we may also be more attracted to scientific types (Uranus) or inventors. Too, there’s a chance that we could even become infatuated with computer geeks (Uranus). This trine could also possibly denote the arrival of a soul mate, since Scorpio does rule past lives, and Venus rules lovers.
With Venus-Uranus, we are more attracted to, and or more accepting of, persons who maybe are a little bit different from us, or who are maybe more unconventional in general. Entertainment-wise, we may also want to engage in activities that wildly or radically deviate from our usual routine. We also may be want to participate in group activities now, which Uranus rules.
Too, Venus-Jupiter characteristically is all about indulging in fun and pleasure. It can be very romantic. Venus-Uranus often brings about sudden attractions. Instant love! But remember, we still need to get the new love interest fingerprinted and thoroughly checked out, just as a precaution, due to Venus-Neptune. Later on, if we see that there might be some real potential, we may also want to go ahead and carefully administer an upright vacuuming test. In addition to asking the person directly, how they really feel about passionately vacuuming alone in the dark, especially during an eclipse. Do they like it, or not? If no, why not? Again, with Venus-Neptune, we must probe. Probe, probe, probe. 🙂
“Lose your dreams and you might lose your mind” Mick Jagger. Especially if I lose my dream about you, Mick!
Okay. Now to my dream about George Clooney: I did actually have a dream/nightmare about George on New Year’s day, during a short “solo” nap alone (: in the middle of the day. In the weird thing, I remember looking out of my front living room window in my house, and seeing George standing in my front yard, with another nondescript man of color, who I did not recognize. The other guy was kind of a big guy. Probably his bodyguard.
George was wearing a sexy black leather jacket and faded blue jeans. But, to the best of my recollection, he did not appear to have any whips or chains under his arms, or at least, any that I could see, and trust me, I was looking for them. Unfortunately, too, in the dream, George ended up walking AWAY from my house with that guy, without even venturing to ring my doorbell. Symbolically, I took this as a very bad omen. He should have been walking TOWARDS my house instead. Don’t you think?
My house also probably signifies my physical body. A real slap in the face that George can’t even bring himself to ringing my bell! Does anyone out there do dream interpretation? Know maybe what this dream about Clooney may mean, or portend for me? Could it mean that I’m suppose to move perhaps more in the direction of Mick Jagger, with my natal, dual-lover, Venus in Gemini placement? Seek Mick out for my spiritual and emotional rescue? 🙂

“You know you’re getting old, when Santa starts looking younger.” Robert Paul
Ho, ho, ho! The optimistic Sun in goodwill Sagittarius is energetically square jolly Jupiter in fantasy Pisces today (Dec. 16th at 4:47 pm EST). Too, due to Jupiter’s intrinsically generous, warm-hearted nature, Jupiter symbolizes “the Santa spirit” in astrology.
Sun square Jupiter is often a time when we are characteristically wanting to be a little more giving and generous to others with our time, talent, and bundle of resources. Not a bad thing at all!
The only pitfall here: We must be careful not to over-promise, or over-commit ourselves. We need to avoid excesses altogether. No easy task, as we are feeling much more revved up about our abilities and capabilities now. We also have our inspired eyes on the “bigger picture.” Our hope and faith are merrily a twinkle.
Also, we are wanting so much to wholeheartedly believe in the good in other people now, and in fairy-tale endings. Finally meeting the prince after kissing way too many frogs. “Santa Claus Oprah” putting a trip to Australia in our holiday stocking, too, along with keys to a new car.
“Santa Claus has the right idea. Visit people once a year.” Victor Borge.

Re-birthing Agent Pluto, denoting power and transition, is exactly conjunct the Growth Oriented North Node in Capricorn today. Capricorn is a sign associated with worldly ambition and achievement.
Symbolically, this is an excellent time for us to reflect upon and embrace our own power (Pluto). Also, to perhaps review how we have wielded our power in the past to attain the things that we desired. Are we satisfied with how we have used our power, to date? Or, do we maybe need to “retool” (Pluto) how we “leverage our power” in the future?
Too, we may want to use this time to give an accounting of some of our past actions to others. Pluto confers upon us “penetrating insight” into the past, and the sign that it rules, Scorpio, denotes joint resources, or how we characteristically share what we have (our power) with others. It could be that we gain closure now, for ourselves and others, by explaining why we have behaved certain ways in the past.
With the regenerative properties of Pluto well-established, too, this may also be an ideal time to “re-fashion” or “revitalize” our image, especially our public image and worldly reputation (Capricorn). We also may want to “tweak” or even “totally revamp” our higher goals for ourselves (Capricorn) in wake of emerging new awareness (Pluto) of our destiny (North Node).
Fascinatingly, Former President George W. Bush’s new memoir, “Decision Points” is being released today (Bush has the transiting expansive Jupiter at 23 degrees of Pisces now exactly conjunct his 9th house cusp of publishing and self-promotion. Jupiter also rules books.). As President of the U.S., Bush held what is widely regarded as the “most powerful position in the world” and now, with Pluto (Power) exactly conjunct the North Node in Strategizing Capricorn, he is revealing to the rest of the world, through his memoir and in media interviews, what it was like for him when he was seated in the Oval Office. He is detailing and explaining why he chose to use his power (Pluto) the way that he did, what led him to make the decisions that he made.
As part of writing his memoir, he also seems to be wanting to “regenerate” or “revive” (Pluto) his personal image, and no doubt wanting to re-cast (Pluto) his presidency in a more “positive light” for the future (North Node), something that is, of course, typical for former presidents to want to do, once they have left that office.
With Pluto conjunct the North Node it behooves us to be thinking seriously about our legacy, or what we will be leaving behind when we are gone. Legacy is something that falls under Pluto’s domain, and the North Node of the Moon symbolically speaks to us about “the karma” that we have specifically chosen to undertake in this lifetime.
On another level, we may also want to pay close attention to other “Pluto-type” (power, reform, legacy) stories in the news now, to see how this Pluto-North Node conjunction is playing out in the collective. Often what appears to be happening “outside of us,” in the end, can also have special meaning and significance for our own personal lives. We can always learn from everything, and always draw parallels to our own situations, if we only take the time to “connect the dots.”
Yesterday, for instance, Oprah Winfrey did a show with members of Michael Jackson’s family and his children, and viewers of the show got to glimpse a side of Michael’s private life that perhaps had never been made public before, especially his personal relationship with his children. Pluto’s ray, when activated, can reveal to us what has previously been “kept secret.” Pluto, as ruler of the subconscious, naturally signifies what is “hidden or submerged.”
Again, if you saw the Oprah interview, you also witnessed part of the living legacy (Pluto) that Michael has left behind, especially his children. I was personally very touched and moved by how much his children really loved him, even worshiped him.
When Oprah asked Michael’s daughter, Paris, what she “missed the most” about her dad, she said, “everything.” That was a very powerful moment, and also again, “very Pluto.” Pluto rules those emotional experiences that resonate with us “at the very core” of our being.
Too, we think about the amazing “musical legacy” that Michael left the world. But, at the end of the day, if Michael were alive today, he may very well say, after that Oprah interview, that the single thing that he was “proudest of,” was that “one word comment” made by Paris to Oprah, knowing that he was able to affect his daughter in such a positive way as a father.
Elsewhere, we are also hearing about the ongoing chaos ensuing from the eruption of Mount Merapi in Indonesia. Pluto fittingly rules volcanoes, with a volcanic eruption a graphic example of the “expulsion of contents” from deep within its core. (Pluto) Again, one parallel here for our individual lives is: We all “blow our stacks” too!
On Monday, Steven Hayes was sentenced to death by a jury in Connecticut for his role in a grisly triple killing during a home invasion, a high-profile news story from the past that also speaks to the “dark side” of Pluto. The “shadow side” of Pluto is associated with cold-blooded murder and torture, an absolute “abomination of power” that, to most of us, is in impossible to understand.
Elizabeth Smart is additionally recounting, in a courtroom today, her previous abduction and sexual molestation (Pluto’s “shadow side” rules “forced sex” and “enslavement”). Also, there is a story breaking about “69 child prostitutes” being rescued in the U.S. and “99 pimps” being arrested. The “unenlightened” side of Pluto, too, is associated with manipulation and exploitation.
Yet, in another late breaking news story today, there is word that about $40 million in holocaust (Pluto) reparations have been stolen in a massive scam (another manifestation of Pluto exploitation at its worst).
So, with Pluto-North Node now, we are collectively being made aware of things that we were previously “in the dark” about. Too, with Pluto, ruling “the underworld,” there can often be a very sinister and darker nature to the events that unfold around its energy. Of course, it should also be interjected here that, how we choose to “use our power,” (Pluto) is ultimately up to us. We can use our power to “do good,” or we can use our power in a harmful, controlling way that hurts others, and eventually suffer the dire consequences.
Also, back to “image-building” a moment. President Obama seems to be doing some “edifying” of his own persona on the world stage now and also trying to put forward ideas that could be characterized as having “a new spin” to them (Pluto). He was in India yesterday, for example, and talked there about the relationship the U.S. has with India, and how he would like to “retool it” (Pluto) in such a way that Americans do not regard India as a place to which “jobs are outsourced,” but rather see it as a place where new jobs for Americans can be created.
