born on this day, daily astrology, last-minute action, Mars at anaretic degree of gemini

Cosmic Weather:

“It is easier to resist at the beginning than at the end.” – Leonardo da Vinci

This Friday, Mars spends its last full day in ambidextrous Gemini after buzzing around in the sign since August 20th. Accordingly, it’s possible that we may be feeling a sense of urgency to take some last-minute action. Kind of like when we are leaving the house, and walking out the door, when all of a sudden, we wonder if we maybe left the stove on or forgot to turn off the lights – so we frantically go back inside to take one final look around.

Too, on the flip side, sometimes when a planet reaches the end of the road (or a sign), it just wants to chill out a bit or relax – or reflect upon where it’s been. Mars has been holed up in busy, cerebral Gemini since August 20 due to its retrograde period; normally, it moves a half a degree a day or spends just two months in a sign.

Mars enters homebody Cancer, tomorrow morning (7:45 am), where it will reside until May 20th. Since Mars is the energy or momentum planet, it’s possible that we could also see a boost in spring homes sales or in other kinds of home-related activities during this time.

Assertive Mars is said to be “in its fall” in Cancer as it tends to go more inward, becomes more protective and nurturing and honed-in on what is going on in its immediate surroundings with family or loved ones. There can also be a lot of stops and starts with things depending on our mood.

The Waxing Moon is also in steady Eddie Taurus, all day, so we may be more interested in doing what we can to stabilize our personal situations, particularly on a financial level. At the same time, Luna’s late-day conjunction with Uranus (7:52 pm) might find us interested in exploring new possibilities or pastimes.

ChatGPT, daily astrology, Pluto enters Aquarius, TikTok, transformation

Cosmic Weather:

“When she transformed into a butterfly, the caterpillars spoke not of her beauty, but of her weirdness. They wanted her to change back into what she always had been. But she had wings.” – Dean Jackson

All astrological eyes are zeroing in on dwarf planet Pluto today as it moves into change-oriented Aquarius (8:13 am), where it will take up temporary residency for the next three months before exiting back into Capricorn in June. Due to retrogrades, Pluto will not re-enter Aquarius, long-term, until late November of 2024 – at which time it will set up shop there for approximately the next 20 years.

Pluto is associated with endings or purging, the subconscious, spying or surveillance, as well as issues of power or control. It is also linked with rebirth or renewal, including potentially helping to deepen our awareness and foster our awakening.

Often our responses to Pluto’s transformational ray tend to be more intense or single-minded. Of course, how this more highly engaging orientation will ultimately play out in airy, intellectual Aquarius – the sign also associated with innovation and AI – is anyone’s guess. But it could be that, among other things, our involvement with the tech world is about to become much more complex or complicated in the coming years, including, perhaps, with a much keener focus on the entities that may be in charge of or wielding control/or regulating the ever-evolving digital landscape.

Just today, as investigative Pluto entered Aquarius, the CEO of TikTok faced intense grilling and scrutiny on Capitol Hill from both sides about the social media platform and whether it could be posing a national security threat to the US, or to user privacy, and whether its popular app should possibly be banned.

Ever since ChatGPT debuted, in late November, there has been a firestorm of stories in the media about how artificial intelligence is going to be dramatically revamping (Pluto) our daily lives, in a multitude of ways, particularly in the workplace.

Today in the WSJ on the front page, there is a story about how many workers are already widely embracing Chat GPT despite their bosses’ fears. In the article, some employees surveyed said that they feel the program makes them more productive, but many leaders have purportedly some misgivings about what corporate intelligence workers might be sharing.

The other day, I heard someone say – presumably tongue-in-cheek – that as long as they can come up with a robot to clean the toilets, she doesn’t care about all the rest. Which immediately reminded me of the importance that humor can sometimes play in helping to keep our lives more manageable so hopefully that we don’t go off the deep end and lose our perspective or sense of empowerment by conjuring up a bunch of scary scenarios (such as the robots have finally taken over!) that may or may not ever fully come to pass. At least for now. 🙂

Cosmic Weather:

“It was character that got us out of bed, commitment that moved us into action, and discipline that enabled us to follow through.” – Zig Ziglar

This Wednesday – with Luna remaining in trailblazing, initiating Aries all day – and also fresh off the heels of the gangbuster Aries New Moon yesterday, the hustle and bustle in the heavens continues head on today – suggesting the same for our humble earthling lives.

Of course, it may also possibly help out our personal cause now a bit – in terms of achieving any long-term success – if we have at least some clear idea, notion, or vision of where we want to go and what we intend to do once we get there; though, on the flip side, some behavioral researchers are also saying now that – in some instances – just taking action in a new direction, without prior prepping or planning, might also end up being a winning strategy for us as well, as it – at least – gets us out there, soaking up a new environment, and that that real-life immersion can potentially be very helpful in illuminating for us what our next steps should likely be, on a practical level – especially since many people seemingly discover their true calling or sense of purpose often by accident in the course of pursuing something else.

This latter approach to generating new beginnings, new experiences, new growth also seems to be a pretty compatible fit for the more perceived spontaneous, irrepressible nature of Aries energy itself, which is often depicted as tending to want to throw everything up against the proverbial wall in hopes that something will eventually stick.

Too, it appears that we may be keeping our fingers crossed that something really big will be sticking today as the risk-taking Aries Moon conjuncts gargantuan Jupiter, later this afternoon (4:17 pm). Moon-Jupiter potentially provides us with whopping doses of momentum to advance our agendas, as well as heightened self-confidence, especially in adventurous Aries. Of course, on the shadow side, the possible risk with Jupiter is that we do too much, overestimate our capabilities, or act too impulsively.

“All the world is a birthday cake, so take a piece, but not too much.” – George Harrison

Today’s Question(s): If you were to “go big” today, what might that look like or entail for you – and what area of your life would you likely be focusing on?

*All times EDT

On This Day in History: On March 22, 1933, President Roosevelt (FDR) makes beer and wine legal in the US as initiating Mars, in health and habit-forming Virgo, applies to a conjunction to substance-ruling Neptune; Mars tends to energize whatever it is aligned with. Meanwhile, expansive Jupiter in Virgo was also separating from a conjunction to Neptune while Luna was deposited in change-oriented, freedom-loving Aquarius.

Born On This Day: Canadian actor William Shatner, best known for playing Captain James T. Kirk in the science fiction television series Star Trek (1966–69) and in several Star Trek films. Shatner is turning 92 today.

banking crisis, daily astrology, new beginnings, Pluto at anaretic degree in Capricorn, Spring Equinox 2023, sun enters aries

Cosmic Weather:

“We all want to break our orbits, float like a satellite gone wild in space, run the risk of disintegration. We all want to take our lives in our own hands and hurl them out among the stars.” – David Bottoms

We start off our Monday with lots of moving parts, including the rollout of a brand-new astrological year as the Sun enters enterprising Aries – also signaling the Spring Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere (5:24 pm), which is perennially perceived as favorable for new beginnings, particularly of a personal nature as Aries is associated with one’s own self-identity.

We also have a New Moon in energizing Aries, tomorrow afternoon (1:23 pm) – meaning that today we are immersed in Luna’s Waning Crescent phase in Pisces, often a time of reflection and quiet planning, as well as a final period for wrapping things up. Luna is only generating 2% illumination now, so her output is pretty much at a lull, suggesting that we maybe are too.

At the same time, intense Pluto is still holed up at the 29th or anaretic degree of corporate Capricorn as the global banking crisis continues to unfold and grab headlines; Pluto is thought to rule credit, debt, and lending. When a planet gets to the last degree of a sign, there often seems to be more of a last-ditch effort to do certain things, push certain things through, as we may perceive that we are running out of time.

(Too, yesterday, as the empowering Sun in unifying, idealistic Pisces formed a sextile to transformational Pluto – an influence that often can usher in sudden rebirths or makeover responses on our part – UBS agreed to buy its rival Credit Suisse in an attempt to alleviate some of the banking stress. It will be interesting to see how this aspect may appear to play out, this week.)

Also, on Wednesday, the last day Pluto will be in Capricorn, for a while, before entering robot-zone Aquarius on Thursday the 23rd (8:13 am), Federal Reserve Chief Jerome Powell will announce whether or not he will be raising interest rates, once again, or maybe taking a pause, which can, of course, have important impact on those of us who may be considering taking out such things as mortgage or car loans, with money often costing more, the higher the rates go up. Saturn-ruled Capricorn also has a reputation for being a bit Scrooge-like, to begin with, due to its perceived focus on budget-planning or preferring to live leaner and meaner.

“Too many people spend money they haven’t earned, to buy things they don’t want, to impress people that they don’t like.” – Will Rogers

Today’s question: If money were no object, what might you consider doing today that you otherwise would not likely do?

Cosmic Weather:

“Normally, we do not so much look at things as overlook them.” – Alan Wilson Watts

This Thursday morning intellectual Mercury conjuncts exacting Saturn in “doubting Thomas” Aquarius (9:34 am) tending to inject more gravity, skepticism, or cautiousness into our thinking, words, or communications. Since our mental focus is perceived to be more narrowed or concentrated now, it can often be a good period to comb through the fine details of matters, particularly, perhaps, looking for the weaknesses or vulnerabilities in things. It is also possible now that we are wrapping up or finishing a final review of something as this conjunction is coming at the 29th (or anaretic) degree of Aquarius.

Today’s annual Mercury-Saturn conjunction is also occurring with love goddess Venus and big-hearted Jupiter affectionately paired up in the sky in adventurous Aries (12:36 am), suggesting that we are also poised and ready for adding something new or bold to our lives that ideally affords us more personal freedom and self-expression. It can also be a propitious time to expand our sphere of relationships as well as to immerse ourselves in social activities.

Later this afternoon, Mercury will also enter dreamy, idealistic Pisces (5:52 pm) for a 16-day stay.

*All times EST

On This Day in History: On March 2, 1965, one of the most popular films of all time, The Sound of Music, starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, premiers (Academy Awards Best Picture, 1966).

Astrologically, that day, there was a stellium of five planets (plus Chiron) in creative Pisces, the sign associated with filmmaking or visual imagery. Mental Mercury in Pisces was also applying to an exact trine to imaginative Neptune in potent Scorpio, the modern-day ruler of Pisces. Mars in craftsmanship Virgo was also sextile Neptune as well as trine to expansive Jupiter in the financial and artistic sign of Taurus. Mars-Jupiter aspects tend to generate or correlate with mega amounts of enthusiasm and passion for our endeavors, while the Mars-Neptune energy can help us to skillfully manifest our dreams or visions, so that they become very real to us.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Cosmic Weather:

“For a second I was almost jealous of the clouds. Why was he looking to them for an escape when I was right here beside him?” – Kamila Shamsie, Kartography

Balloons have been in the news quite a bit, as of late. And this morning seems to be echoing that sort of balloon-ish theme a tad, as the Waxing Moon in airy, curious Gemini squares off against gaseous Neptune in escapist Pisces (10:46 am). It is very possible that this murkier, more untethered lunar setup could prime us to want to mentally float or drift off course for a while – preferably to some undetectable locale – so, ideally, we can steep ourselves in fantasy and skirt around having to be accountable to anyone but ourselves; the woes of the workaday world temporarily subdued – or, at least, ideally less of a factor for us.

(By the way, in case you didn’t know, a British scientist – Michael Faraday – is credited with inventing the first rubber balloon in 1824. What is also pretty wild is that early balloons were reportedly made of animal bladders or intestines; Galileo, for instance is said to have used an inflated pig’s bladder in an experiment to measure the weight of air.)

Anyway, as the day goes on, we do (seemingly) manage to somehow regain our affection or affinity for the “real world” (Moon trine Saturn at 8:07 pm). Too, Luna’s shift into Cancer the Crab (9:40 pm) accentuates a need or longing for secure connections firmly rooted in our past.

“The past beats inside me like a second heart.” – John Banville, The Sea

On This Day in History: On February 28, 1983, the final episode of M-A-S-H aired to record ratings. Nearly 106 million viewers, or 77 percent of the American TV-watching public, tuned in to watch the finale. After 11 seasons, the television show about a US Army medical unit serving in the Korean War lasted longer than the war itself. (Wikipedia)

Astrologically, that day, the empowering Sun was in dissolving Pisces at 9 degrees and exactly square to Jupiter conjunct Uranus at 9 degrees of storytelling Sagittarius. Jupiter perennially serves to expand the scope or reach of things and paired with Uranus, the planet ruling broadcasting, it wasn’t surprising – astrologically-speaking – that the last episode of the show garnered such a gargantuan audience. Jupiter-Uranus energy also typically has a special “buzz” to it, or suggests some ‘out of the ordinary’ occurrence.

This Sunday, the celestial view of things appears a bit brighter with back-to-back trines from the empowering Sun in Aquarius to initiating Mars in Gemini (8:45 pm) and thinker Mercury in Capricorn to inventive Uranus in Taurus (9:16 pm). Ideally, this more flowing setup will help us to take charge of things in a more effortless manner as our motivation may be cresting now but operating in a more unpressured way. Also, new projects/new beginnings may be easier to set into motion. Too, intellectually, we are potentially more amenable to learning new things, trying fresh approaches, which could result in our experiencing some proverbial light bulb moments.

“In the age of the individuals’ liquidation, the question of individuality must be raised anew.” – Theodor W. Adorno

This Monday morning, Waxing Luna wraps up her stay in quirky, freedom-loving Aquarius, where the gravitational pull to dance or prance around to the beat of our own bongo drum can be pretty compelling and hard to resist! 🙂 Luna’s void of course phase – from 5:19 am to 12:35 pm – also favors finishing up old projects instead of starting anything new. This may also be a good period to update technology or our social media accounts,

The Moon’s entrance into sensitive, compassionate Pisces (12:36 pm) ideally helps to soften some of our rough edges. It is also a good time for doing bodywork or things like Tai Chi or yoga – anything that tends to connect us up with our inner world.

Vesta’s conjunction with Neptune (3:01 pm) – the planetary ruler of Pisces – may inspire a heavenly-type devotion to something we love.

On This Day in History: On January 23, 1973, US President Richard Nixon announces an accord has been reached to end the Vietnam War.

Astrologically, that day, the Moon was in diplomatic Libra; agreement negotiator Mercury had just entered humanistic Aquarius at 0 degrees; warrior Mars in Sagittarius was separating from an opposition to contracting Saturn in Gemini, suggesting a cessation of hostilities; and expansive Jupiter – in government-ruling Capricorn – was exactly square to breakthrough Uranus, which was also deposited in peace-loving Libra, beside the Moon. Jupiter-Uranus aspects are sometimes associated with seismic type changes or developments in an effort to boldly turn things around.

change, Jupiter sextile New Moon, New Moon in Aquarius 2023, Pluto conjunct New Moon, Uranus stations direct

Cosmic Weather:

“You don’t have to compose a masterpiece every time, but I think the challenge of art is always searching for something different, searching for a new sensitivity, a new perspective, a new vision.” – Ludovico Einaudi

Today’s New Moon in cutting-edge, humanistic Aquarius (3:55 pm) ideally helps us to see our world – and the future – with a fresh set of eyes. It encourages us to dabble with new methods, new approaches; to strike up new alliances, partnerships, or friendships with persons who may not normally intersect our cozy little orbit, perhaps, in a bid, to get a new perspective or alternate take on things; or to possibly turn ourselves over to causes that are bigger than us in the hopes of maybe creating much needed change in the collective.

It could be, too, that this New Moon in social-minded Aquarius paves the way for us to hook up with members of our own tribe or those individuals who are on the same page or wavelength as us and, as a result of those connections, we are able to reach new heights of awareness or realize possibilities that may not have even previously been on our radar screen. It’s like the ripple effect: we do one thing, and that thing leads to another. Then another.

Also, oftentimes, key discoveries are made – or important changes occur or are set into motion – in the aftermath of engaging in something as simple as a brainstorming session. Or maybe just playing around with things or switching things up. It’s not like we always have to move heaven or earth in order to get things where we want them. Sometimes, just taking small steps can yield seismic results – especially if done regularly over time. Or so the experts say.

For instance, if you like to cook, you probably enjoy experimenting with different recipes and know that when you maybe change or alter the ingredients, or the amounts used – even sometimes just slightly – you often end up with a whole new dish or taste, for better or worse. Too, if you concoct something in the kitchen you don’t like, you don’t have to make it again. It’s that simple! You have the power!

Ditto the same for other aspects of our lives as well: If we don’t like the results that we are getting in an area, then we maybe should consider – and with very good reason – stopping doing the type of activity that is generating those less than thrilling outcomes and try something else instead. Too, remember what Einstein reportedly once said: Insanity is doing the same thing, over and over again, but expecting different results.

Transformational Pluto in Capricorn is conjunct the New Moon. This is highly focused energy that is particularly supportive for overhauling or revamping matters. Also, expansive Jupiter in Aries sexiles the lunation. This potentially amplifies the results or reach of our efforts or intentions. It also may help to move things along very quickly. Jupiter is also excellent for providing us with a big dream or vision, especially when it is in the pioneering sign of Aries. Too, the ruler of Aries – Mars in busy Gemini – just went direct and is trining this New Moon – presumably another flashing go-ahead signal for us. It also never hurts to have the energizer bunny on our side when we are trying to get things kicked off.

Also, lastly, liberating Uranus, the planet of change, innovation, and revolution – and the modern ruler of this Aquarius lunation – is stationing direct in Taurus tomorrow, after a five-month retrograde period. This suggests he’s very ready and eager to get back to constructing the future again and that he is also going to be insisting that all of us mere earthlings go along with him for the wild ride – whether or not we have all of our bags packed. So, we better get packing! 🙂

“Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.” – Rumi

change, daily astrology, sun enters aquarius, the debt ceiling

Cosmic Weather:

“Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth.” ~ John F. Kennedy

Early this Friday morning, the Sun, which signifies the ego and basic urge to be, exited conventional Capricorn for experimental Aquarius (3:30 am), potentially setting the stage for us to channel or bring forth more of our spontaneous or unscripted side – or that part of our nature that perhaps seeks to chug along and do its own thing – make its own earth-shattering discoveries, live off the grid, etc., without having to feel unduly constrained or checked by the dictates or directives of the status quo.

Aquarius in Latin means “water bearer” or “cup bearer,” and its zodiac symbol of a man pouring water from a pitcher, suggests that Aquarius is concerned with infusing the world with new meaning. A good time to maybe seek to raise our vibration.

Uranus, the modern-day ruler of Aquarius, is viewed as an engine of change. It is linked with technology, innovation, and rapid advancement. It also rules our intuition as the higher octave of Mercury.

The sign of Aquarius also represents humanity, individuality, the collective, groups of people – as well as our network of friends and acquaintances. During Aquarius season we often seek to be a part of something larger. We are also often more interested in advocating for causes that are close to our heart.

We may also strive to be more accepting of others in an impersonal way – especially of the differences between us – even though we may also be more prone now to wanting to speak our minds, especially when we perceive things to be an affront or abridgement to our personal liberties. Aquarius is a fixed air sign, and can, consequentially, often adhere to very strong opinions or views – with natives of this sign often particularly fond of playing the role of the contrarian or devil’s advocate. The Sun will be in Aquarius until February 18th.

“People do not seem to realize that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

In the News: Yesterday US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen stated in a letter to congressional leaders that the US had reached its statutory debt limit (or debt ceiling) as of Thursday, and that Congress will need to take action by early June, to prevent default on its debt. On Wednesday, as you may recall, we had the annual Sun-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn; crisis-minded” Pluto – which typically excels at sounding the alarm bell – governs, among other things, debt and taxes, while Capricorn oversees the workings or machinations of government.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.
