daily astrology, imagination, innovation, Mars in Leo, Mars square Neptune, Moon in Aquarius, Neptune in Scorpio, Phillips TV first experimental color TV broadcast

“Television won’t last because people will soon get tired of staring at a plywood box every night.” – Darryl F. Zanuck, American film producer and co-founder of 20th Century Fox

On October 14, 1964, Philips TV reportedly conducted their first official experimental broadcast of Philips’ color TV system in the Philips television studio in Waalre, Netherlands. The demonstration is said to have featured a Polygoon color film news program described by a journalist as “well blue-tinted.”

This event was part of Philips’ broader 1964 test campaign, during which some 100 Philips employees received color TVs at home to evaluate the new technology, along with some select members of the media.

While Philips had been developing and testing color TV earlier in 1964, October 14, 1964, is historically recognized as the date of the first official experimental color TV broadcast by the company and hailed as a milestone in Philips’ rollout of color TV in Europe.

Just for fun, yours truly took a quick peek at the astrology that day:

The transiting Moon was passing through innovative, tinkering Aquarius, the sign actually associated with broadcasting as well as tech in general.

Trailblazing Mars, the planet of action and motivation, was also deposited in bold, colorful “Leo the Lion,” which is thought to be a much more dramatic, performance-laden placement for Mars, with Leo also linked with entertainment.

Mars was also forming an exact square to fantasy or make-believe Neptune in Scorpio, an influence that sometimes is linked with our perceptions seeming a bit off or at least altered, for whatever reason. Perhaps this element also just capturing here the difference in the actual visual reality going from the accustomed black and white screen to color. Neptune also governs cameras, lenses, photographic equipment, and images.

Too, “Mars-Neptune” aspects are often regarded in astrology as among the most potentially creative pairings of all. Perhaps because Neptune is seen as overseeing our dreams, vision, and imagination, and pioneering Mars often acts as a catalyst to fire up or animate whatever it is aligned with.

Too, when we are under the spell of idealistic Neptune’s ray it is often conjectured that we may be looking through “rose-colored glasses.” 🙂

***

Anyone remember when color TVs first came out? They were quite a gamechanger! I think my family got our first one in the mid-sixties. Initially, color televisions were reportedly nearly triple the price of the black and white TVs, with some purportedly costing as much as a $1000! Too, I’ve read that it was only in the early 1970s that color TVs finally overtook the black and white television market. Maybe the hesitancy to make the switch was due to the higher price.

***

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Cosmic Weather:

“If you’re not confused, you’re not paying attention.” Tom Peters

Waning Luna in Pisces is in her Fourth Quarter Crescent Phase (also known as the Dark Moon). Appearance-wise, if you’re in the Northern Hemisphere, she will present as a thin crescent of light on the left.

Purported ramifications for mere mortals? It’s thought to be a perfect time for reflection, recuperation, recharging our batteries; may also inspire a desire for serving others.

Mars in Gemini Square Neptune in Pisces (3:18 pm) – If you’re an aficionado of meandering through tricky labyrinths, it’s likely you have a competitive advantage now! If not, don’t be surprised by some of the strange looks you may be getting from others assessing your precarious plight as you benignly take four steps forward, then twelve steps back – then lurch abruptly to your left, for no good reason. 🙂

In truth, the situation may even be more complicated than it looks. Kind of the day when we pull on a loose thread and suddenly everything unravels. The takeaway here might be to not poke around too much – unless we’re ready for and can stomach the consequences.

An even better strategy might be to postpone new action until the dense fog has cleared and motives and circumstances become clearer.

On another level, Mars-Neptune (along with the Neptunian Pisces Moon) can fuel our imagination and creativity. A bit of a magic carpet ride!

“Maturity, one discovers, has everything to do with the acceptance of ‘not knowing.” Mark Z. Danielewski

Astrology August 8, 2019: Venus Trines Jupiter, Richard Nixon Presidential Nomination

Cosmic Weather:

“May you never become so cynical that you let a star fall without its wish.” Nicole Lyons

Our power of attraction Venus, in magnanimous Leo, is trine to abundant Jupiter Rx in philanthropic Sagittarius – perhaps formally inviting the Fairy Godmother archetype to suddenly appear in our lives, ideally granting us each three wishes while also spreading much-needed kindness and love all around the globe. 🙂

Generally, when Venus and Jupiter align there’s thought to be more of a desire to lift ourselves up, on all levels, both individually and collectively. There’s also more of a perceived desire for seeking out pleasurable pursuits or activities; interestingly, neuroscience studies have also shown that the brain releases the happiness hormones – endorphins, dopamine, and serotonin – when we’re having a good time or feeling relaxed and confident.

Waxing Luna will also be wrapping up her stay in emotionally charged Scorpio, this afternoon (4:34 pm), at which time she’ll be flitting into home on the range Sagittarius, where she’ll be scoping out greener pastures. The inspirational Sagittarius Moon backdrop is also a perfect setting for allowing the more voluminous Venus-Jupiter energy (exact at 4:27 pm) to work its golden, fairy-dust magic.

“The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” W.B. Yeats

Numerologically, today – August 8 – is also an “8” day and reduces down to a “1” when you add up the numbers for the day, month, and year. In Chinese culture, the number 8 is associated with wealth, fortune or prosperity.

Astrologically, the number 8 is linked with the planet Saturn and responsibility. The number one is also ruled by the Sun and portends leadership ability and creative new beginnings.

Overall, an 8-1 day suggests great determination and know-how to forge through any obstacles to get to where you want to be. In the Tarot, these two numbers are also symbolized by the Magician Card (One) and the Strength Card (8).

“The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” W.B. Yeats

All times EDT

On This Day in History: On August 8, 1968, the Republican Convention in Miami Beach, Florida nominates Richard Nixon (b. January 9, 1913) for US President.

Astrologically, that day, transiting Mars, the energizer, was newly installed in leadership Leo, at 2 degrees of the sign (in Nixon’s 11th house of friends and groups). Transiting Saturn, the Lord of Karma, was also stationing retrograde in assertive, self-willed Aries, the sign of new beginnings.

Transiting Mars in Leo was also exactly opposite Nixon’s natal Uranus, the planet of change and the unexpected, at 2 degrees of Aquarius (in Nixon’s fifth house of self-expression). Mars-Uranus aspects sometimes instantly change the world or landscape around us, often in radical or game-shifting ways.

Too, Nixon had transiting Pluto, symbolizing rebirth and transformation, conjunct his Virgo Ascendant or First House (the house of personal new beginnings). Pluto also symbolizes the urge for power and control and conjunct the Ascendant it can mark a time when we become more persuasive or influential in the world. On the shadow side, too, Pluto can potentially make us more controlling, especially when we may feel a loss of power.

(Nixon would later resign as President on August 9, 1974, or forty-five years ago, tomorrow, when the transiting South Node in Gemini was exactly conjunct his Midheaven or career house.

In the sky that day, too, transiting Mars in corrective Virgo was separating from an exact square to dissolving Neptune (the planet of deception) in politician-ruling Sagittarius. Mars-Neptune aspects are often linked with acts of surrender or capitulation; that aspect also matched the uncertainty or “up in the air” quality that America was going through at the time. Challenging Mars-Neptune aspects are often described as being similar to having a rug pulled out from under you.

“Only if you have been in the deepest valley, can you ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain.” Richard Nixon

daily astrology, daily horoscope, deception, John Milton Paradise Lost, Mars square Neptune, passive aggressive, scattered

Cosmic Weather:

“The most confused you will ever get is when you try to convince your heart and spirit of something your mind knows is a lie.” Shannon L. Alder

There are more questions than answers today. And, even the answers we’re getting from ourselves, others, and the world at large may be highly suspect or confusing! With animator Mars in Gemini squaring evader Neptune in Pisces (9:04 am), it could be that the more we try to ‘push the envelope’ now (Mars), the greater the chance that that delicate paper receptacle will just flat out vanish into thin air (Neptune)! On the shadow side, Mars-Neptune energy is associated with passive-aggressive/deceptive/scattered actions. Accordingly, it may be best to postpone acting on any major issues today until the view/the facts/our perspective become clearer. Too, behaving aboveboard with integrity can be an empowering way to circumvent some of the bumps in the road before us now.

On another level, Mars square Neptune can be excellent for involvement in any creative activities, especially art, music, and photography. This energy can also invoke our more compassionate or charitable side and can be a time when we are much more capable of self-sacrifice.

“The most sublime act is to set another before you.” William Blake

Famous April 27 Birthdays: Cory Booker, Coretta Scott King, Ulysses S. Grant

“The friend in my adversity I shall always cherish most. I can better trust those who have helped to relieve the gloom of my dark hours than those who are so ready to enjoy with me the sunshine of my prosperity.” Ulysses S. Grant

On This Day in History: Blind and impoverished, John Milton sells the copyright of Paradise Lost for £10 on April 27, 1667. The first version of this epic poem consisted of ten books with over ten thousand lines of verse.

“The mind is its own place, and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven.” John Milton, Paradise Lost

Astrology June 22, 2011: Mars Squares Fishy Neptune, Afghanistan Withdrawal

Afghanistan war, creativity, daily astrology, fantasy, Mars in Gemini square Neptune in Pisces June 22 2011, Mars square Neptune, Moon in Pisces, mystical, peace, photography, President Obama to discuss troop withdrawal in Afghanistan June 22 2011, Sun in Cancer trine Neptune in Pisces, sun trine pisces

COSMIC WATCH:

“The gift of fantasy has meant more to me than my talent for absorbing positive knowledge.” – Albert Einstein.

Fantasy Neptune, ruler of our imagination and also the urge for escape, is captaining our ‘good ship lollipop’ today in oceanic Pisces. This is because not only do we have a Neptune-ruled, dreamy Pisces Moon all day, we also have the Sun in nesting Cancer trining inspirational Neptune. And energizer Mars in idea Gemini is squaring Neptune.

With Neptune’s illusory ray so prominent now it is possibly easier for us to go adrift, so we may need to be extra mindful about holding ourselves accountable with respect to whatever it is that we want to accomplish. Although, at the same time, it may also be wise for us not to stack too much on our plates. Especially work that calls for strict attention to details or facts and figures.

Too, we have the Pisces Moon void of course all day, so it is likely best to stick with old projects instead of undertaking anything new. We also are encouraged to focus our energies on more creative venues (film, photography, painting, dance, poetry). Immersion in more spiritual or mystical pursuits also serves us well now as Neptune is our portal to Divine forces.

Also, if something seems a little fishy to us today, we may want to arm ourselves with a healthy dose of skepticism. Neptune, on the shadow side, characteristically has a way of seemingly pulling the proverbial wool over our eyes. It is often regarded as the planet formally linked with deception, either self-deception or deception from others (con men). It is also frequently paired with scandal or plain weird incidents in general (especially the Mars square Neptune aspect). Often the kind of strange stuff that we hear about, that has us scratching our heads, wondering what in the world a person was thinking? Neptune’s classic calling card, on the shadow side. 🙂

In the News: President Obama is reportedly planning on addressing the nation tonight from the White House to discuss his plan for the withdrawal of armed forces from Afghanistan.

Astrologically, we have Mars, governing war and the military, exactly square to Neptune which could be viewed to act as a dissolving agent (diminishing the troop strength, in this instance). Neptune is, in fact, known as the “Great Dissolver.”

Neptune’s ray also sometimes seems to figure more prominently in historic peace efforts and treaty signings, reflective perhaps of Neptune’s overriding desire for “oneness,” or for a unified world “without division.”

On the flip side, Mars-Neptune sometimes rachets up our sensitivities potentially climaxing in a desire to avoid the harsher/coarser realities of life at all costs. Of course, engaging in this type of avoidance or denial type behavior could backfire on us if we are not careful.

One more thing, on a lighter note. Gotta’ love this “fishy” Neptunian headline in the news today: “Chinese Find 55-foot sea monster!” Reportedly, the “sea monster” washed up on a beach in Guangdong, China. It’s decaying body weighed in at 4.5 tons. Unfortunately, the decomposition was too advanced to ID the remains.

Enjoy your Wednesday!
