As we strive to somehow deftly situate ourselves in the mystifying labyrinth of yet another new year, it appears we are being tossed a few friendly assists from the cosmic powers-that-be today:

Mercury in Capricorn trines Vesta in Virgo (9:44 am). This can really help to focus our thoughts. It’s excellent for putting the finishing touches on projects.

Sun in Capricorn sextile Ceres in Pisces (12:08 pm). This more soothing influence ideally positions us to channel our angels or to show genuine nurturing or support to others. It can also be a good time to scrutinize our diets or the foods that we put into our bodies. (Ceres governs food, agriculture, and Motherhood.)

Mars in Aries is also (finally) moving out of its post-retrograde shadow today. An opportunity for us to venture forward into new territory. The Waning Moon in Leo is also trining Mars, this afternoon (5:00 pm). An excellent period for taking initiative, standing up for ourselves, or being physically active.

Numerologically, we have a “2” and “8” day before us. Ideally, we are more collaborative now and have more of a knack for balancing things out.

On This Day in History: On January 2, 1960, Senator John F. Kennedy of Massachusetts announces his candidacy for the US Presidency.

Astrologically, optimistic Jupiter and assertive Mars were conjunct in aspirational Sagittarius. An aspect that routinely exudes incredible exuberance and self-confidence in us. This influence can also motivate us to want to truly better the world in some way, usually, by acting upon our personal vision for the world (Sagittarius also rules politics and politicians). Both Mars and Jupiter were also trine reformer Uranus in charismatic Leo. The Sun, the giver of life, was additionally conjunct Karma Lord Saturn in professionally ambitious Capricorn. An alignment that tends to make us take our duties and responsibilities, very seriously. There is more gravity to our sense of purpose.

Perhaps fittingly, the first planetary aspect of 2021 is a hopeful sextile from Mercury in pragmatic Capricorn to Neptune in idealistic Pisces (6:18 am). A lovely, more subtle influence that can inspire us to imagine a better year ahead.

Another thing that is very cool about this energy is that it can often heighten our psychic or intuitive impressions, or help us to contact higher planes of consciousness. Additionally, it can make us more sympathetic or caring.

Waning Luna is also in entertainment Leo today. Doing what we enjoy brings us a lot of pleasure now. It is also a great way to recharge our spirit.

Numerologically, we are dealing with both a “one” and “seven” day. Very positive for new beginnings and for seeking a deeper meaning or higher purpose to our lives.

On This Day in History: On January 1, 1818, the first edition of the novel “Frankenstein (or “The Modern Prometheus”) by English author Mary Shelley was published anonymously in London and became an instant bestseller. The book is a combination of Gothic horror and science fiction. It tells the story of Victor Frankenstein, a Swiss student of natural science who creates an artificial man from pieces of corpses and brings his creature to life. (wikipedia.org)

Astrologically, on the day of its publication, there was a stellium of planets conjunct in futuristic, scholarly Sagittarius (Uranus, Venus, Neptune, and Jupiter), the sign which governs publishing. That planetary lineup was also square to transformational Pluto, the signifier of life, death, and rebirth. “Frankenstein” is considered by many to be the prototype of the science fiction novel.

This morning we are focused on home, family, and seeking out comfort or the familiar as the Waning Moon wraps up her stay in nurturing Cancer.

Love planet Venus also conjuncts the South Node in Sagittarius (9:15 am). The South Node represents our karmic past, or what we are moving away from. While this aspect can place our attention on old friendships or attachments, it may also provide us with insight regarding what ties or alignments we may need to let go of as we seek to grow and evolve in the new year. Additionally, it could shed light on what beliefs, ideologies, or values we perhaps need to discard or update as a result of what we learned or experienced in 2020. Author Jennifer Crusie also points out that values aren’t buses. “They’re not supposed to get you anywhere. They’re supposed to define who you are.” 

The second half of the day – and for New Year’s Eve – Luna shifts into fun-loving Leo (1:57 pm). This Moon placement is typically a boon for creative outlets of all kinds.

Numerologically, the 31st of the month is associated with a love of beauty, practicality, and finesse with managing or organizing.

On This Day in History: President Harry S. Truman officially signs Presidential Proclamation 2714 on December 31, 1946, officially declaring the cessation of all hostilities in World War II.

Even though the actual combat of the war ended May 8, 1945, in Europe and September 2, 1945, in the Pacific, the state of war was not lifted off of Japan and Germany in order to give a reason for the necessity of occupation troops in these countries. Once the War Crimes Trials were over, the hostilities were seen as over.

The signing of Proclamation 2714 is the reason why the U.S. recognizes its World War II veterans as anyone who has served between the dates of December 7, 1941, and December 31, 1946. (Wikipedia.com)

Interestingly, when President Truman (also the Commander in Chief) signed Proclamation 2714 on December 31, 1946, astrologically in the sky, that day, the Sun (representing those in power) and Mars (governing war and the military) were both conjunct in Capricorn (the sign of government) at 9 and 10 degrees, respectively. Both were also square to dissolving Neptune, which was at 10 degrees of diplomatic Libra. Transpersonal, unifying Neptune is often a key astrological factor in peace treaties or matters pertaining to ending hostilities. Mars-Neptune generally symbolizes or suggests the termination of conflict. Mars when placed in Saturn-ruled Capricorn can also be a restraining force for outward aggression. The Sun-Mars conjunction is additionally often a very powerful aspect, even though it is of short duration because it usually coincides with significant new beginnings or advancements.

We start off the last Monday of 2020 with the Waxing Moon in fickle, curious Gemini, which means our attention may be a little bit here, a little bit there. There is also more of a desire for taking personal initiative, especially as the day progresses, with Luna sextile to assertive Mars in Aries (10:01 pm), which also naturally raises our propensity for risk-taking or adventure. Articulating our thoughts or feelings also comes more naturally to us now with the Moon deposited in word sleuth Gemini.

Numerologically, the 28th day of the month (which reduces down to “one”) additionally bodes well for embarking on new personal beginnings. The only caution here is that we do not want to spread ourselves too thin, going into tomorrow’s Full Moon in emotionally protective Cancer.

On This Day in History: On December 28, 1612, Galileo observes and records a  “fixed star” without realizing it was the planet, Neptune.

Astrologically, in the sky then, futuristic Jupiter, the planet of luck and expansion, was exactly conjunct Neptune, at 26 degrees of magnifying, refining Virgo – beneficent Jupiter, no doubt, helping to gently goad ethereal Neptune out from the shadows. Jupiter-Neptune conjunctions often have an otherworldly feel to them. It is often a time, too, when our dreams are given their angel wings.

Also, on that day structuring Saturn was exactly conjunct nebulous Neptune at 25 degrees of scientifically-minded, breakthrough Aquarius. Saturn-Neptune aspects often have a way of piercing through the veil of illusion to reveal the true nature of things.

While it may be a bit of stretch, during these more challenging times, to envision jolly Santa on his sleigh descending upon us with a giant bag of goodies, nevertheless we still might be treated to the next best thing today via the compassionate Pisces Sun’s sextile to philanthropical Jupiter, the planet that is often billed as the “Cosmic Santa” (8:27 am).

This forward-thrusting Sun-Jupiter aspect ideally inspires us to envision and plan for a brighter tomorrow, in part, by generously sowing seeds of hope or encouragement, or by diligently exercising or adhering to our faith in ourselves or a higher power. Jupiter rules the visionary sign of Sagittarius, which is archetypally represented by the archer, who enthusiastically aims his bow and arrow at the stars.

This more inclusive Sun-Jupiter energy can also motivate us to collaborate or to work more closely together to achieve common goals for the benefit of all. The fact that Jupiter is also in pragmatic Capricorn is also excellent for crafting responses or solutions now that effectively deal with real-world concerns or needs. It is also a good influence for getting big business and government (Capricorn) to step up to the plate in altruistic ways (Pisces).

Too, Jupiter is applying to a conjunction with intense Pluto, possibly highlighting the need for taking more urgent or extreme measures now to preserve or safeguard our interests. Jupiter-Pluto can also symbolize the harnessing or mobilizing of immense forces/resources to manage situations.

We may be feeling now more of a tug inside to include our dreams, hopes, or spiritual perspectives into our real-world objectives (Jupiter sextile Neptune at 10:56 am) – even though the full implementation on how to practically do all this may not be completely apparent to us yet. Fortunately, Jupiter and Neptune will be aligning twice more, this year (in July and October), so, hopefully, we should be able to put this thing in the bag!

Generally, the Jupiter-Neptune energy is wonderful for doing any kind of intuitive, creative, or charitable work. We may also want to pay closer attention to any synchronicities going on around us now as they could be very revealing and also play a pivotal part in helping us to more intentionally carve out our future path (or to hook up to our soul’s destiny).

Jupiter-Neptune can often feel very magical in how it plays out. It’s like the veil between the world of matter and spirit is lifted now, and we can catch glimpses of the Great Beyond!

Tarot Card For The Day: The Six of Swords. This suggests both a cycle of completion and moving on or a moving forward. While this card usually denotes progress, we still may have to find a way to manage some residual doubts or fears about the future based upon the experiences of our recent past. On the shadow side, this card can depict running away or wanting to escape from certain situations.

Numerology For The Day: Today seems extra special ( extra magical!) with it being the 20th day of the second (or “02” month) in the “perfect-vision” year of 2020. We have a “quadrupling” of twos and zeroes.

Overall, the number 20 is associated with feminity, reflection, greater sensitivity, being adept at perceiving emotions, and more ability to show warmth or encouragement. Seems also to be a very nice complement to the more idealistic Jupiter-Neptune energy, which, again, tends to put us in a more dreamy frame of mind in which we’re looking to not only manifest the visions for our lives but also, perhaps, inwardly longing to see the deeper unity or connection among us all.

The quadrupling of the numbers also suggests that we’re putting down now a very strong, solid foundation for the future to, ideally, achieve these ends.

With Luna shifting into professionally ambitious Capricorn (at 5:37 am) and then conjuncting assertive Mars (at 8:16 am), we may feel a bit like we have to take the world by storm, this morning.

Also, a waning lunar trine to progressive Uranus in Taurus (at 11:45 am) may elevate our receptivity to incorporating new methods or ideas, experimenting with novel ways of money management, or perhaps motivate us to examine different kinds of investment strategies.

This is also the last day for the ego-oriented Sun’s annual tour through avant-guard Aquarius, as it will shift into compassionate Pisces, very late tonight (11:57 pm). It will remain in the sign of the fishes, until March 19th.

With Pisces also being the last sign of the zodiac, it’s a little like we’ve seen it all, done it all, and now we’re simply ready, at this point, to pull the shade down on the whole world so as to contemplate, for a while, What the heck does it all mean? 🙂

In the heavens, that day, we had “premier” energy for making exciting “cosmic” discoveries: Pioneering Mars was transiting Aquarius at 9 degrees (the zodiacal sign which rules astronomy and astrology) and exactly sextile to breakthrough Uranus in new beginnings Aries (the two planets were actually in mutual reception with each other). Pluto, at the time, was retrograde and at 17 degrees of Cancer.

We start out our Monday with the waning Moon ensconced in optimistic Sagittarius, obviously doing her best to get us inspired for the new week ahead.

Visionary Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system. It’s also the planet that governs the growth process in the body. When we’re inspired or have something to look forward to, that’s really how we stay creatively engaged in life and keep our precious life force energy flowing vibrantly inside us. Interestingly too, Jupiter symbolizes the arterial blood, which carries oxygen and nutrients away from the heart, the ruling center of our whole being, to the billions of tissues in our body.

Today is also the first full day for Mars in Capricorn, the sign of its exaltation. Mars in Saturn-ruled Capricorn can help us to become more measured or focused in the actions that we take, often allowing us to realize our goals with less energy, which is always a good thing as who among us doesn’t want to be able to do more, with less. Too, it appears we’re in extra good company now as genius Albert Einstein also had his natal Mars in Capricorn. Of course, whether that automatically means that we’ll finally be able to figure out the cryptic meaning of E = mc2  probably remains doubtful, especially with intellectual Mercury now retrograde in spacey Pisces. 🙂

The Last Quarter Moon in intense Scorpio takes center-stage today (at 5:17 pm). This lunar phase could highlight or underscore for us where we may be overly invested emotionally, or where we may be holding on too tightly (to the past), and how that more rigid-like stance could be undermining the positive growth that we’ve intended or envisioned for ourselves (Sun in Aquarius).

The Sun/Mercury midpoint was also exactly conjunct expansive Jupiter, suggesting perhaps a wider arena or platform for expressing powerful (Sun) thoughts and ideas (Mercury) of a more legal/ethical/philosophical nature (Jupiter). The Moon, symbolizing women, was also in diversity welcoming Sagittarius, the Jupiter-ruled sign that formally governs the law and courts. Born On This Day: Galileo Galilei, in 1564, an Italian astronomer, physicist, and engineer who has been called the father of science (d. 1642).

Galileo had Mercury exactly conjunct Pluto in his chart often an indicator of strong powers of observation. He also had Saturn, the planet that rules science, in a tight conjunction with abundant Jupiter.

With Luna fully submerged in secretive Scorpio all day, we should be cosmically cleared to “claim the fifth” now without invoking too much pushback from the gods. 🙂

This is also a good day for coming to deeper intellectual realizations about what’s perhaps fueling some of our passions or desires or driving our emotions (Moon trine Mercury). Too, indulging in this sort of inner reflection could potentially trigger within us a sense of growing optimism about the future (Moon sextile Jupiter) and hopefully confirming for us that, yes, we’re on the right track!

Another benefit of the Moon-Jupiter meetup (at 11:52 pm) is that it can add a nice degree of emotional warmth/emotional acceptance to our persona, ideally helping us to confidently connect or mingle with others in a positive, more supportive way.
