Cosmic Weather:

“I love the challenge of starting at zero every day and seeing how much I can accomplish.” – Martha Stewart

This Tuesday morning, we step out of the gate with motivator Mars, in showy Leo, squaring everyone’s favorite optimist-junkie Jupiter – who is now officially headquartered in got-to-have Taurus. (1:13 am). Wanting to make a big splash in the world and spearheading things that generate seismic ripple effects, may simply be something too irresistible to pass up now. Especially if our lofty egos are involved! Too, while we may be able to pull off some whale-sized accomplishments, at the moment – particularly if we avail ourselves of opportunities that may suddenly appear before us – knowing when to dial it back a bit, may also prove to be a gallant strategy in the long run. Remember, Saturn’s rings are there for a reason!

Overall, though, this can be a fun and exciting day. Good for embarking on new adventures.

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, Wow! What a Ride!” – Hunter S. Thompson

On This Day in History: On May 23, 1900, the Associated Press News Service (AP) began in New York. Astrologically, at the time, the empowering Sun had just entered the news and information sign of Gemini (the day before). Expansive Jupiter and innovative Uranus were also conjunct in truth-seeking Sagittarius, a sign in which we aspire to stretch our world views as well as supply greater meaning and understanding to what Gemini has gathered.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Cosmic Weather:

“Never underestimate the power you have to take your life in a new direction.” – Germany Kent

We start our Monday morning off with the empowering Sun, in multi-faceted Gemini, forming a waning sextile to action-planet Mars in commanding Leo (1:57 am). This perceived opportunity aspect may help to put a bit of swagger in our step. It also potentially bodes well for creative endeavors, fostering new approaches, gathering information. Our curiosity could lead us down a myriad of paths now. Breakthroughs are also possible.

In numerology, the 22nd day of the month is also regarded as the Master Builder number. It is associated with organizational ability, productivity, and leadership. Some also view this number as a potent facilitator to more readily allow us to tap into our Soul’s purpose or wisdom.

“As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being.” – Carl Jung

*All times EDT

On This Day in History: On May 22, 1992, Comedian and late-night TV host Johnny Carson signs off for the last time after hosting “The Tonight Show” for 30 years. His final show featured no guests, focusing instead on clips and remembrances from Carson, sidekick Ed McMahon, and bandleader Doc Severinsen. (Jay Leno would become the new host of the show.)

Astrologically, that night, Luna was in broadcast-ruling, eclectic Aquarius and applying to a conjunction with more serious-minded Saturn; Saturn is linked with partings or endings. Communicator Mercury – the planet which also governs talk show hosts – was in grounded, reliable Taurus and just separating from an opposition to transformational Pluto in Scorpio. This more intense energy also maybe lending some extra poignancy, depth, or disclosure to the conversation on the final show that night.

Asked how he became a star, Mr. Carson once replied:

“I started in a gaseous state and then I cooled.” 🙂

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

daily astrology, moon conjunct jupiter, new beginnings, On This Day in History

Cosmic Weather:

“It was character that got us out of bed, commitment that moved us into action, and discipline that enabled us to follow through.” – Zig Ziglar

This Wednesday – with Luna remaining in trailblazing, initiating Aries all day – and also fresh off the heels of the gangbuster Aries New Moon yesterday, the hustle and bustle in the heavens continues head on today – suggesting the same for our humble earthling lives.

Of course, it may also possibly help out our personal cause now a bit – in terms of achieving any long-term success – if we have at least some clear idea, notion, or vision of where we want to go and what we intend to do once we get there; though, on the flip side, some behavioral researchers are also saying now that – in some instances – just taking action in a new direction, without prior prepping or planning, might also end up being a winning strategy for us as well, as it – at least – gets us out there, soaking up a new environment, and that that real-life immersion can potentially be very helpful in illuminating for us what our next steps should likely be, on a practical level – especially since many people seemingly discover their true calling or sense of purpose often by accident in the course of pursuing something else.

This latter approach to generating new beginnings, new experiences, new growth also seems to be a pretty compatible fit for the more perceived spontaneous, irrepressible nature of Aries energy itself, which is often depicted as tending to want to throw everything up against the proverbial wall in hopes that something will eventually stick.

Too, it appears that we may be keeping our fingers crossed that something really big will be sticking today as the risk-taking Aries Moon conjuncts gargantuan Jupiter, later this afternoon (4:17 pm). Moon-Jupiter potentially provides us with whopping doses of momentum to advance our agendas, as well as heightened self-confidence, especially in adventurous Aries. Of course, on the shadow side, the possible risk with Jupiter is that we do too much, overestimate our capabilities, or act too impulsively.

“All the world is a birthday cake, so take a piece, but not too much.” – George Harrison

Today’s Question(s): If you were to “go big” today, what might that look like or entail for you – and what area of your life would you likely be focusing on?

*All times EDT

On This Day in History: On March 22, 1933, President Roosevelt (FDR) makes beer and wine legal in the US as initiating Mars, in health and habit-forming Virgo, applies to a conjunction to substance-ruling Neptune; Mars tends to energize whatever it is aligned with. Meanwhile, expansive Jupiter in Virgo was also separating from a conjunction to Neptune while Luna was deposited in change-oriented, freedom-loving Aquarius.

Born On This Day: Canadian actor William Shatner, best known for playing Captain James T. Kirk in the science fiction television series Star Trek (1966–69) and in several Star Trek films. Shatner is turning 92 today.

“What does God need with a starship?” – William Shatner.

Cosmic Weather:

“Normally, we do not so much look at things as overlook them.” – Alan Wilson Watts

This Thursday morning intellectual Mercury conjuncts exacting Saturn in “doubting Thomas” Aquarius (9:34 am) tending to inject more gravity, skepticism, or cautiousness into our thinking, words, or communications. Since our mental focus is perceived to be more narrowed or concentrated now, it can often be a good period to comb through the fine details of matters, particularly, perhaps, looking for the weaknesses or vulnerabilities in things. It is also possible now that we are wrapping up or finishing a final review of something as this conjunction is coming at the 29th (or anaretic) degree of Aquarius.

Today’s annual Mercury-Saturn conjunction is also occurring with love goddess Venus and big-hearted Jupiter affectionately paired up in the sky in adventurous Aries (12:36 am), suggesting that we are also poised and ready for adding something new or bold to our lives that ideally affords us more personal freedom and self-expression. It can also be a propitious time to expand our sphere of relationships as well as to immerse ourselves in social activities.

Later this afternoon, Mercury will also enter dreamy, idealistic Pisces (5:52 pm) for a 16-day stay.

*All times EST

On This Day in History: On March 2, 1965, one of the most popular films of all time, The Sound of Music, starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, premiers (Academy Awards Best Picture, 1966).

Astrologically, that day, there was a stellium of five planets (plus Chiron) in creative Pisces, the sign associated with filmmaking or visual imagery. Mental Mercury in Pisces was also applying to an exact trine to imaginative Neptune in potent Scorpio, the modern-day ruler of Pisces. Mars in craftsmanship Virgo was also sextile Neptune as well as trine to expansive Jupiter in the financial and artistic sign of Taurus. Mars-Jupiter aspects tend to generate or correlate with mega amounts of enthusiasm and passion for our endeavors, while the Mars-Neptune energy can help us to skillfully manifest our dreams or visions, so that they become very real to us.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Cosmic Weather:

“For a second I was almost jealous of the clouds. Why was he looking to them for an escape when I was right here beside him?” – Kamila Shamsie, Kartography

Balloons have been in the news quite a bit, as of late. And this morning seems to be echoing that sort of balloon-ish theme a tad, as the Waxing Moon in airy, curious Gemini squares off against gaseous Neptune in escapist Pisces (10:46 am). It is very possible that this murkier, more untethered lunar setup could prime us to want to mentally float or drift off course for a while – preferably to some undetectable locale – so, ideally, we can steep ourselves in fantasy and skirt around having to be accountable to anyone but ourselves; the woes of the workaday world temporarily subdued – or, at least, ideally less of a factor for us.

(By the way, in case you didn’t know, a British scientist – Michael Faraday – is credited with inventing the first rubber balloon in 1824. What is also pretty wild is that early balloons were reportedly made of animal bladders or intestines; Galileo, for instance is said to have used an inflated pig’s bladder in an experiment to measure the weight of air.)

Anyway, as the day goes on, we do (seemingly) manage to somehow regain our affection or affinity for the “real world” (Moon trine Saturn at 8:07 pm). Too, Luna’s shift into Cancer the Crab (9:40 pm) accentuates a need or longing for secure connections firmly rooted in our past.

“The past beats inside me like a second heart.” – John Banville, The Sea

On This Day in History: On February 28, 1983, the final episode of M-A-S-H aired to record ratings. Nearly 106 million viewers, or 77 percent of the American TV-watching public, tuned in to watch the finale. After 11 seasons, the television show about a US Army medical unit serving in the Korean War lasted longer than the war itself. (Wikipedia)

Astrologically, that day, the empowering Sun was in dissolving Pisces at 9 degrees and exactly square to Jupiter conjunct Uranus at 9 degrees of storytelling Sagittarius. Jupiter perennially serves to expand the scope or reach of things and paired with Uranus, the planet ruling broadcasting, it wasn’t surprising – astrologically-speaking – that the last episode of the show garnered such a gargantuan audience. Jupiter-Uranus energy also typically has a special “buzz” to it, or suggests some ‘out of the ordinary’ occurrence.

born on this day, daily astrology, Moon enters Virgo, On This Day in History, productive

Cosmic Weather:

“What we truly need to do is often what we most feel like avoiding.” – David Allen

Somewhat quieter on the celestial front today as we await Mars stationing direct in Gemini on Thursday.

The transition from Leo to Virgo is always rather stark, isn’t it? As we are essentially going from wanting to be the “life of the party” to officially becoming part of the late night “clean-up crew!” 🙂

Ideally, the Moon’s two-day transit of Virgo now will help us to become more self-disciplined, efficient, and productive. More solution minded. Allow us to build up or flex our organizational muscles. And hopefully inspire us to, overall, take better care of ourselves – body, mind, and spirit. It is also generally regarded as an excellent time to set up new daily routines or habits.

“Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.” – Jim Ryun

(Moon exits Leo and enters Virgo 10:15 am.)

*All times EST

Born On This Day: American singer Pat Benatar [Andrezejewski] in Brooklyn NY. Benatar is turning 70 today! “Love Is A Battlefield” remains one of Benatar’s best songs: it rose to No. 5 on the Hot 100, her highest place on the chart to date.

On This Day in History: RCA introduces the 45 RPM record in 1949. A format that would revolutionize pop music.

Astrologically, that day, intellectual Mercury and pioneering Mars were in a tight, two-degree conjunction in inventive Aquarius, the sign formally ruling technology. Mercury and Mars pairings can also often signal big events or situations that grab or generate the headlines. Meanwhile, artistic Venus in Gemini, governing music and the arts, was also in an exact opposition with revolutionizing Uranus in Sagittarius, the modern-day ruler of Aquarius. Venus also reflects what provides us with pleasure or amusement and often when linked with Uranus we long for a change of pace, including sometimes seeking out radically new experiences/people/situations that make us feel more alive.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

daily astrology, love, On This Day in History, Steve Jobs announces the iphone, Venus trine Mars

Cosmic Weather:

“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.” – Lao Tzu

This Monday morning, the “Cosmic Lovers” are aligned in the sky, ideally boding well for romance or matters of the heart as well as socializing and endeavors that require cooperation or points of agreement. With Mars Rx, it is also possible that people or situations from our past somehow re-enter the picture now.

Too, with Mars in its retro phase, we may find that we are not quite as direct or forward as we normally might be, although we may still feel inside us a plethora of competitive and creative juices converging at this time.

Waning Luna will also remain in self-expressive Leo all day, which should lend more of a supportive portal for the manifestation of this more harmonious trine energy. Too, with this alignment occurring in air signs, we may feel a bit of an intellectual lift throughout the day.

(Venus in Aquarius Trine Mars Rx in Gemini, 10:22 am. Waning Moon in Leo Quincunx Sun in Capricorn, 12:25 pm.)

*All times EST

On This Day in History:  On January 9, 2007, Steve Jobs announced the first iPhone at the Macworld convention, receiving substantial media attention. Jobs announced that the first iPhone would be released later that year. On June 29, 2007, the first iPhone was released. (Wikipedia)

Astrologically, on 1/09/2007, communicator Mercury was in a tight conjunction with the empowering Sun in corporate Capricorn – an aspect that we also just had, this past weekend – and a time when we tend to be privy to important messages or communiques that can impact or shape our world in meaningful ways. Expansive Jupiter in futuristic Sagittarius was also applying (2 degrees) to an exact square to innovative Uranus, ruling technology – an aspect that I have frequently mentioned before here that is often thought to be linked with elements of genius (Uranus is the higher octave of intellectual Mercury). Jupiter’s activated ray also tends to extend the size and scope of things. Additionally, pioneering Mars in Sagittarius had also just completed an exact trine to structuring Saturn in creative Leo – suggesting a payback after a period of hard work.

“An iPod, a phone, an internet mobile communicator… these are NOT three separate devices! And we are calling it iPhone! Today Apple is going to reinvent the phone. And here it is.” – Steve Jobs

Cosmic Weather:

Venus in Capricorn sextile Neptune in Pisces at 22 deg (3:32 am)

This more subtle aspect may stimulate our creativity and love of beauty, art, music or poetry. With Neptune also governing film, it may be a fun time to kick back and watch an old classic. Or perhaps post our own video on Instagram. Also, very supportive here is the fact that we still have the Waxing Crescent Moon deposited in dreamy Pisces as well and it will be conjuncting Neptune (5:05 pm) and sextiling Venus (6:25 pm) today.

Romantically, it can be a time when we are more idealistic, including maybe longing for a meetup on the soul level. Additionally, this aspect is linked with the bestowal of unconditional love or heightened compassion.

Workwise, we may find that we experience more inner contentment with respect to what we have achieved or mastered. Also, we maybe are feeling more inspired about the possibilities ahead.

“The morning felt like a mixing bowl just waiting for its ingredients; there was a sense of possibility to it, a promise of something more to come.” – Jennifer E. Smith

Some of the things that Neptune rules include maritime interests; hospitals or places of confinement; the oil and gas industry; the cosmetics industry; spirituality; prayer or meditation; the nocturnal dream world; visualization.

*All times EST

On This Day in History: On December 28, 1065, a new church devoted to St Peter the Apostle, built by Edward the Confessor (later called ‘Westminster Abbey’), was consecrated in London (rebuilt in the mid 13th century).

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Cosmic Weather:

“The first step towards true enlightenment is to lighten up on yourself.” – Bashar

Lots going on in the astrology world this week! – although it still may be a bit less hectic than last week – which saw the debut of the Winter Solstice, Jupiter’s ingress into Aries, and the Capricorn New Moon. This week’s highlights include Mercury and Venus’ meetup in Capricorn and Mercury’s stationing retrograde (start backing up your computer files!) – both events occurring on the 29th; the day before that, on the 28th, Venus will also sextile dreamy Neptune. Too, on New Year’s Day, Venus and Pluto will team up for their annual conjunction.

Today, the Waxing Crescent Moon will spend one more day in bohemian-style Aquarius, typically a time when we may feel much more inclined to ‘do our own thing’ as we set upon manifesting our New Moon intentions as the light of the Crescent Moon increases. However, with Luna forming a conjunction to more judgment-minded Saturn (1:19 pm), it is possible we could feel a bit emotionally conflicted regarding what we may want to do versus what we think we should be doing.

On another level, this lunar aspect may be a positive time to make some structural changes or alterations, especially perhaps finding a way to reduce any excesses or redundancies.

After the Moon-Saturn conjunction, Luna will also go void of course until its entrance into Pisces, tomorrow morning (the 27th) at 2:34 am. The Moon goes from Aquarius to Taurus this week.

*All times EST

On This Day in History:  On December 26, 1933, a patent for FM Radio was granted to American engineer Edwin Howard Armstrong.

Astrologically, that day, communicator Mercury in futuristic Sagittarius was exactly sextile expansive Jupiter in Libra, excellent for contractual matters; Jupiter also helps to expand or broaden the reach of things and FM radio pretty much ended up doing that, essentially eclipsing the stature of AM radio. Mercury was also trine inventive Uranus, in pioneering Aries, with Uranus also ruling broadcasting. Too, Jupiter and Uranus were in opposition to each other, at the time, often a boon for major discoveries or any type of technological advancements. The first walk on the Moon by astronauts occurred when Jupiter and Uranus were exactly conjunct in Libra.

Happy Kwanzaa and Happy Box Day! Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Cosmic Weather:

“Throw your dreams into space like a kite, and you do not know what it will bring back, a new life, a new friend, a new love, a new country.” – Anais Nin

No matter that many of us in the U.S. may be bummed out by the brutal cold weather that has currently hijacked much of the country, making holiday travel very difficult – even treacherous or impossible in some regions – today’s astrology still suggests that we may want to consider hitching either our wagon or SUV to a twinkling star and making a wish as thinker Mercury in Scrooge-minded Capricorn forms a magical sextile to transcendental Neptune in fairy-tale Pisces (8:17 pm), suggesting that the veil between worlds is thinner now.

Who knows, this more forgiving, envisioning aspect may even convince Santa to overlook our myriad transgressions, this past year, and charitably leave us something under the tree tonight other than the usual lump of coal in our stockings. 🙂

Mercury-Neptune is excellent for any type of creative work as it may more readily propel us into a state of dreaminess or relaxed consciousness. At the same time, Mercury in organizing, practical Capricorn can help add definition or form to any of the byproducts that visionary Neptune conjures up. We may also want to keep a journal by our bed tonight, as this influence can give rise to very vivid nocturnal dreams as well. What is also interesting about our dreams, and their particular content, is that they often seem to mirror, in symbolic fashion, the astrological themes of the moment.

Due to Mercury stationing retrograde on December 29, we will also have this Mercury-Neptune aspect two more times – on January 2 and February 6 – suggesting something that we undertake today may be put aside and sent back to the drawing board for a redo, before it is finally awarded its angel wings.

*All times EST

On This Day in History: On December 24, 1955, NORAD’s Santa tracking service begins. The event is now a Christmas tradition where the North American Aerospace Defense Command tracks Santa Claus as he travels around the world delivering presents to children. The event began after a printing error in a Sears catalog asking children to call Santa Claus. The number that was printed was the number of Colorado Springs’ Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD) Center. (timeanddate.com)

(Among the astrological aspects, that day, love goddess Venus had just entered hi-tech, aircraft-ruling Aquarius, at 0 degrees, and was forming an exact square to fantasy Neptune at 0 degrees of transformational Scorpio. Venus was also opposing trend-setting Uranus, at 1 degree of theatrical Leo, an influence that often has us searching for “out of the ordinary” experiences that ideally add some extra pizzazz to our lives. Also, very helpful then was ‘Santa Claus’ Jupiter’s near exact trine to the empowering Capricorn Sun. Positive Sun-Jupiter aspects often expand feelings of peace and goodwill and tends to operate on a broad scale.; the Capricorn Sun is also very tradition minded.)

“We have to deal with a polar vortex once in a while, but Santa lives year-round in one at the North Pole, so he’s used to this weather,” deadpanned U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant Ben Wiseman, a spokesman for the North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, which tracks the yuletide flight.
