Cosmic Weather:

The Waning Moon in Scorpio continues to beckon us to go below the surface of things. To sniff out what’s not readily apparent.

Moon Trine Neptune in Pisces (11:59 am) – Supports our intuitive side. Channels our compassion.

Moon Square Jupiter in Aquarius (2:53 pm) – One five-letter word to keep in mind now: EXCESS.  That’s because it could trip us up if we’re not careful! Practicing some moderation, though, can help keep us in our groove.

Moon Trine Mercury in Pisces (4:36 pm) – Our head and heart are in the same space so it’s easier to communicate what’s really going on inside us. A perfect time for making journal entries.

Sun in Aries Sextile Saturn in Aquarius (5:05 pm) – Excellent for getting things done, especially for tackling projects that are high up on our priority list. We are more serious-minded, disciplined, and focused in our outlook. Sun-Saturn also suggests copping a more conservative/utilitarian approach to matters now. Included here might be pruning away what is no longer needed and/or learning to do more, with less. Saturn’s perspective is always long-range and is perennially concerned with building solid structures that will endure over time. It is about holding ourselves responsible for shaping our own world. This may also be a good period to confer with more senior members of a group or organization who have a wealth of direct experience from which to draw upon and guide us.

“If people knew how hard I had to work to gain my mastery, it would not seem so wonderful at all.” Michelangelo Buonarroti

*All times EDT

On This Day in History: On March 31, 1889, the Eiffel Tower in Paris was officially opened. The structure was inaugurated at 1:30 p.m. while workers were still working on the interior fittings and the elevators hadn’t been installed yet! The Eiffel Tower was built by Gustave Eiffel for the 1889 Exposition Universelle, which was to celebrate the 100th year anniversary of the French Revolution (Eiffel also created the internal frame for the Statue of Liberty). The Eiffel Tower was the world’s tallest structure until the Chrysler Building was built in New York in 1930. (Wikipedia)

Astrologically, that day, there was a New Moon in “speed-it-up” Aries, the sign of the pioneer. Too, the planetary ruler of Aries, Mars, was newly-deposited in Taurus, representing the builder. Artistic Venus was also exactly sextile the North Node (of destiny) in nostalgic, patriotic Cancer.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Cosmic Weather:

“Action may not always bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action. ” William James

The Moon in enterprising, self-focused Aries, all day, motivates us to take direct action on matters, especially action on our own behalf, as well as inspiring us to want to birth something new. We’re also more comfortable with some measure of constraint or discipline placed upon our energy now, especially as the day develops, due to a sextile forming between the Sun in Pisces and perfecting Saturn in Capricorn, which will be exact early tomorrow morning (2:10 am). The Sun-Saturn aspect helps us to cut through the fog and build upon our previous successes. It can potentially offer us some clear guidance or insight into our strengths and weaknesses and how to wield our power in such a way that we’re able to make the best use of our available time and resources. This is also an excellent time to establish or re-establish our priorities. Keeping in mind, too, that Mercury is now retrograde in Pisces so we may be able to presently perceive some things that we might have missed, earlier. Or, we may see things, now, in a new light. Additionally, the Sun-Saturn influence is positive for interactions with authority figures, employers, and those who may act as our mentors. It’s also favorable for retirement planning, or for dealing with issues that affect older individuals. By the way, according to recent statistics, age 62 is the most common age to retire in the U.S.

“Retire from work, but not from life.” – M.K. Soni

*All times ET.

This Day in History: On March 8, 1973, the Eisenhower Tunnel, the world’s highest and US longest, opens 60 miles west of Denver, Colorado. The tunnel was considered an engineering feat, at the time. In the sky that day, expansive Jupiter was in innovative Aquarius, the sign that also governs engineering, and forming almost an exact trine (less than one degree) to transforming Pluto in connecting Libra. Jupiter, along with Mercury, rule travel, and Pluto governs tunnels. On a collective level, Jupiter-Pluto energy often allows us to reshape or transform our world on a large-scale level. It is also an aspect that is associated with mining the riches of the earth. By the way, the Moon was also in earthy Taurus, that day, the sign of its exaltation.

Hope you enjoy your day! Unfortunately, I’m still not able to be back with you on a regular basis, but hopefully, that will change soon.

“Self-respect is the root of discipline: The sense of dignity grows with the ability to say no to oneself.” Abraham Joshua Heschel

COSMIC WATCH:

The Moon continues in “entrepreneurial” Aries, until tonight, so risk-taking is still very much on our radar today. The Virgo Sun’s sextile to “disciplined” Saturn in Scorpio (11:03 am EDT) is also very supportive here because not only does it inspire us to want to do and be our best, it can also help us to be much more calculating and strategic with the application of our energies. Former President Dwight D. Eisenhower once said: “In preparing for battle I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable.” Likewise, today’s “do battle” Aries Moon is potentially elevated by the “due diligence” mindset of Sun-Saturn.

Also, this is perhaps a wonderful time to reflect upon our own inner well of accumulated wisdom, based upon our own practical experience (Saturn) on the planet. Oprah Winfrey often uses the phrase “what I know for sure.” Sun-Saturn epitomizes that same sentiment – it is “what we know for sure” about life. Too, we could also maybe put a little of what we know into practice now by perhaps offering to play a mentoring role to somebody else. Or, by allowing another to assume that same role with us. Also, by sharing our stories and personal experiences with each other, we’re not only potentially forging a stronger, more intimate connecting link between us, we’re also able to see, with greater clarity, just how far we’ve come on our journey – as well as what our next steps, should likely be.

“The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history.” George Orwell.

Saturn symbolizes older persons, grandparents, authority / father figures; also customs and tradition. It is also widely regarded as the “Lord of Karma.”

Question for Today: What is a risk you must take?

“The cause is hidden. The effect is visible to all.” Ovid

COSMIC WATCH:

Today, the illuminating Sun is conjunct mysterious, intense Pluto, the symbolic ruler of the subconscious. This configuration has been compared to shining a bright light into a dark cave. We may suddenly become aware of deeper motivations, realities, or facts that were previously absent from our radar screen.

Too, it’s possible that some of what has been hidden or obscured from our view may have been due to a conscious effort, on our part, to not want to acknowledge certain things about ourselves. However, as Carl Jung once astutely stated, “What you resist persists.” It is really only when we have the courage to examine what we don’t want to look at, that we have a chance of finally putting the matter to bed and moving on. Sun-Pluto can also be very healing and transforming, especially when we are willing to face our fears or insecurities. It is also a time when we may want to fix or repair objects that are broken.

On another level, Sun-Pluto also tends to firm up our resolve or will. We can become very passionate now about going after what we want.  Also, on the flip side, we can become keenly aware of what we don’t want any more in our lives and we are not afraid to cut the strings now.

On the shadow side, there can also be a greater chance for power struggles or manipulations to ensue, with this influence, as our egos may be more unwilling to back off from our positions. What we may want to do now, to avoid wading into this sort of behavior, is to consciously seek out a spirit of compromise with each other. See what it is that we can all agree on. To help us out here, too, is a cooperative Sun-Saturn sextile. This constructive influence can inspire us to be more methodical and disciplined in our approach, more willing to delay immediate gratification in favor of obtaining our long-term goals. “As we get past our superficial material wants and instant gratification we connect to a deeper part of ourselves, as well as to others, and the universe.” Judith Wright

COSMIC WATCH:

“Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.” Oprah Winfrey

The Moon shifts into “passionate” Scorpio (7:57 am EDT) deepening our desires and intensifying our reactions to our environment.  Very little gets by us when the Moon is deposited in Scorpio which tends to put our sensory perceptions on high alert. Scorpio is the sign of espionage and intrigue. It also rules shared resources, psychic ability, and the subconscious.

The Scorpio Moon’s sextile to logical Mercury in analytical Virgo (9:33 am EDT) should also be a boon for our problem-solving skills, while its sextile to assertive Mars in protective Cancer (10:27 am EDT) poises us to take swift action on matters.  We can get a lot accomplished this morning, if we stay focused. Later on the in the day, too, the Moon aligns positively with transforming Pluto (4:55 am EDT), the ruler of Scorpio, which is an excellent time to repair or fix things, or take corrective measures regarding situations.

Hopefully, another solidifying factor for us today will be the Leo Sun’s opportunity sextile to stabilizing Saturn, in relationship Libra, with Saturn denoting anchoring structures in our lives. When we have flowing energy between the Sun and Saturn we tend to attract to us elements that can fortify our circumstances. We are also more determined to see things through which bodes well for our success. Saturn is linked with self-discipline and our work ethic. Karmically, this planetary aspect can indicate being rewarded for our past efforts. Saturn and the Sun both represent authority figures, with Saturn specifically denoting more senior persons.

One more thing.  We may be wise to practice some moderation today, especially in our diet or spending, as we have Venus in Leo square to Jupiter in Taurus, a classic template for overindulgence, if we’re not careful.

“The proximity of a desirable thing tempts one to overindulgence. On that path lies danger.” Frank Herbert

“The first sign of maturity is the discovery that the volume knob also turns to the left.” Jerry M. Wright

“Cosmic Word of The Day”: Volume

Definition: 1) fullness or quantity of tone 2) the degree of sound intensity or audibility 3) the amount of space, measured in cubic units, that an object or substance occupies 4) to be very evident or significant

Origin: 1350-1400; ME volum (e) < MF < L volumen roll (of sheets)

COSMIC WEATHER:

The ever-changing Moon leaves carefree Sagittarius for cautious Capricorn, dramatically activating, yet again, the volatile Cardinal T-Cross. Jolly Jupiter turns “unjolly retrograde” in adventurous Aries exactly square Brooding Pluto. Magnanimous Sun in Leo positively trines, and unabashedly pinches in the butt, Odd Fellow Uranus.

DANCE, DANCE, DANCE TO THE T-SQUARE POLKA!

“In the starry sky above, the decibel level is getting louder.

And louder.

The volume knob on the speakers is almost full blast now.

We’re on the verge of going nuts.

Nuts! Nuts! Nuts!

Men in little white coats getting ready to descend upon us from spaceships

To take us away

Away! Away!

What’s really fueling the madness is that they’re blasting us from above with polka music!

And the planets, they’re dancing around like chickens

And quaking like ducks!

Turbulent times that we’re living in, for sure.

No place to hide from the polka music and the incessant, problematic images of accordions.

Katie Couric is even interviewing Sarah Palin about accordions and asking her whether she knows how to play one. Palin finds it difficult to give Katie a definitive answer to the question. It’s scary.  Very scary.

Dance, dance, dance to the T-Square Polka!”

“Some people march to a different drummer – and some people polka.” Unknown source

In all due seriousness today, we have “big stuff” going on in the heavens now and for the next several days. The energy backdrop is very volatile, things are happening pronto, major changes occurring at lightning speed. Some of these may be with the Earth itself as she readies herself to do some heavy “steam cleaning.”

The Moon hovering over the T-Cross and conjunct “Purge Agent” Pluto today signifies key transformational changes are in store. Also, with Moon-Pluto in governmental Capricorn we are again dealing with those ugly, primal “manipulative control issues” and wanting to “seize power” and pounce on others unchecked. So we need to uncharacteristically restrain ourselves, which will help us to create a more effective result in the long run, anyway, with far fewer karmic consequences.

One quick thought here with the Moon-Pluto conjunction today setting off the Jupiter-Pluto square: This is “prime time energy again for all manner of spy stuff!” Perfect day for catching “Big Fish” if we’re willing to handsomely and cleverly bait the hook. No telling the kind of dirt we can find on our fellow man now, if we cast the net wide enough.

Also, other than the spy energy, what I am really loving about today is the Energizing Sun forming an exact trine to Innovator Uranus.  Historically, very cool, out-of-the-ordinary stuff has happened on Sun-Uranus days. In our personal lives, Sun-Uranus days are favorable for trying new, oddball approaches to solving our problems.  These new approaches might just work now, the nature of Uranus is quirky, but also signifies genius!

In the News: President Obama reportedly personally telephoned Shirley Sherrod Thursday, the woman who was embarrassingly axed from the Agriculture Department earlier this week in a rush to judgment. Apparently Obama apologized to Sherrod, which I thought was cool, especially since he was doing so at the most perfect time from a cosmic perspective: Sun in leadership Leo exactly sextile to proper protocol player Saturn in diplomatic Libra. I had blogged yesterday that Sun-Saturn is perfect for extending an olive branch.

“The highest reward for a man’s toil is not what he gets for it but what he becomes of it.” John Ruskin

“Cosmic Word of The Day”: Reward

Definition: 1) something given or received in return or recompense for service, merit, hardship, etc.

Origin: 1275-1325; ME rewarden, orig, to regard

COSMIC WEATHER:

The Illuminating Sun enters glamorous, party-lovin’ Leo today and warmly extends an intimate “sextile party invitation” to Geriatric Saturn, now hanging out all by himself in relationship Libra. The Sun surmises that Saturn is ready and eager to discreetly resume “copulating activities” after that long period of “presumed abstinence” in virginal Virgo.

Feeling sorry for Saturn, the Sun has also included some Viagra with his invitation. He figures Saturn was due this much-needed reward. The big trick now is to find somebody for Saturn to love. Although the Sun’s sextile to Saturn today should help Saturn in the “personal attraction” department. The Sun-Saturn sextile is often an “elevating” influence, a time when we are signaled out and rewarded for our past efforts.

The Sun knows, too, that Saturn has so much on his plate now, seeing that he is prominently involved in that steroidal Cardinal-T-Square with the likes of Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto, with Mars also joining the hullabaloo on July 29th.

Today, though, Saturn is “chilling out” and relaxing. Enjoying pina coladas and “paint by number” and working on his profile for the internet dating sites. Saturn figures he’s due some slack after the big move into romantic, artistic Libra.

He’s also trying to figure out how to get to the “Love Shack” where the Sun in Leo’s sizzling summer party is being held tonight. He’s heard a lot of “big shots” will be attending, so Saturn is especially looking forward to it, as he is always looking to further himself and enhance his career and status.

He’s normally adept with directions but he’s having a hard time reading the map without his new, pink-framed bifocals, which he has already misplaced again. The glasses were yet another gift from Appearances Queen Venus.

Saturn is squinting at the tiny print on the map and mumbling aloud: “It looks like I go to exit 209, then I turn left at Gibraltar, then I turn right at Bandero, then I go down a hill, then I go 15 miles…

“The tragedy of sexual intercourse is the perpetual virginity of the soul.” William B. Yeats

In the News: The issue of “race” jumped to the forefront this week with the sudden termination of that Agricultural Department Official, Shirley Sherrod, who apparently was axed prematurely for some comments that she made on race that were taken out of context.

I thought it interesting that the “confusion and embarrassing firing” occurred with the Sun in Cancer, the sign that rules agriculture, forming an exact challenging quinxqunx (adjustment) influence to nebulous Neptune in the sign of  Aquarius, which deals with equality and humanitarian issues.

Anytime we have Neptune prominent, we are more prone to being undermined and having “things not always being as they appear on the surface.”  Neptune is also associated with scandals and disrepute and Ms. Sherrod’s reputation was suddenly maligned.

We also have Saturn, ruling the past, forming the exact opposition to Uranus, the ruler of Aquarius, which governs equality issues. The Saturn-Uranus aspect has, unfortunately, stirred up “old wounds” again.

According to reports, Ms. Sherrod may be reinstated back at the Agriculture Department at a new job. Whether she goes back, is another question. Today’s Sun in leadership Leo sextile fence-mending Saturn in diplomatic Libra, would be a good time to further smooth this matter out and formally bestow an olive branch, which I believe was done late yesterday with the Sun-Saturn sextile influence already applying.

If you have an area of your life that needs some “massaging” or “salvaging,” you may also want to try to reach some level of accord or agreement today. Sun sextile Saturn can be very stabilizing and diplomatic, particularly with “peace-keeper” Libra involved. Good day for signing peace treaties.

“Youth fades; love droops; the leaves of friendship fall; A mother’s secret hope outlives them all.” Oliver Wendell Holmes

The ever-changing Moon fittingly begins this Mother’s day in the selfless sign of Pisces. No doubt she’s hoping we’ll be likewise inspired by the altruistic qualities of this sign to demonstrate a gentle mothering and caring to others, especially to those more fragile persons around us who are suffering or in crisis.

Practicing compassion not only makes others happy, it is also a way to make ourselves feel better. In Pisces, the last sign of the zodiac, our hearts are always bigger. Our vision more divine.

We may experience contradictory waves of emotion as the sensitive Pisces Moon conjoins joyous Jupiter, opposes anxious Saturn and then conjuncts rebellious Uranus mid-afternoon. Immersion into some kind of creative project may be a good way to productively channel these variegated feelings.

The Moon enters adventurous Aries at 5:29 pm EDT at which time the energy becomes much more frenetic and outward. We’re ready to ramp up our engines and start all over again then.

Events in history on this date: On May 9, 2005 The Huffington Post was launched by Arianna Huffington (Cancer) and two others as a more liberal-progressive American news website and aggregated blog.

This very popular site reportedly receives 18 or 19 million visits a month, however, that number is a fluctuating estimate.  What is also noteworthy here is that they’re registering more than a million comments each month from their countless stream of articles.

Too, while HuffPost is known for its focus on politics, it has successfully expanded into other areas including business, entertainment and sports.

On the launch date, we find the Sun in consolidating Taurus making a positive sustaining sextile to longevity Saturn in nurturing Cancer. The Sun position in a horoscope is always very important as it depicts the life force in the chart in which everything else revolves.  We always want to have a strong Sun placement as it provides vitality and spirit for a being or enterprise.

Here in materialistic Taurus, the Sun is practically grounded and the link to utilitarian, survivalist Saturn endows it with an intrinsic understanding of how to use all the resources at its disposal.

The Sun is also in a close, more challenging square to idealistic Neptune in Aquarius, the sign of the collective.  The dreamy Neptune influence acts as an antidote, in some ways, to the more cautious, conservative Sun-Saturn energy.

Sun-Neptune is goaded into action more by a sense of vision and lofty ideals and less by practical considerations, especially with Neptune being in the sign of brotherly love Aquarius. Sun-Neptune intrinsically seeks to inspire and enlighten others. There can particularly be a strong need to want to be a voice for persons or groups who are disenfranchised.

A lot of political leaders, including U.S. Presidents, have had Sun-Neptune prominent in their charts, as it seems to install some measure of a “Messiah-complex” with Neptune symbolically representing our link to the Divine.

Neptune also governs visual images as well as charisma.  Sun-Neptune energy often denotes figures or entities that engage us or captivate us in some magical way.  Neptune is the purveyor of illusion.  It also rules glamor, disguise and hopeless addiction. The Huffington Post is a master when it comes to leveraging visual imagery along with written content, another reason why so many maybe have become hooked on the blog. Lucky Jupiter’s placement in social Libra also adds to the successful public appeal of it.

The emotional Moon was also in the communication sign of Gemini at its inception, giving a natural communication ease as well as bestowing a deep need for interacting and articulating with the environment.

Pioneering Mars was also powerfully conjoined with innovative, trend-setter Uranus in Pisces on the launch day. Pisces is the sign that the very imaginative Neptune rules.  This influence attests to brilliance and genius and confers marked ability for a farsighted strategy that is able to project well into the future.

With Mars-Uranus in the Huffington Post horoscope there is also an unbridled passion for discovering new horizons as well as an aptitude for altering, updating existing environments. Uranus is furthermore the technology guru and with energetic Mars conjunct it, there would be easy access and talent for all things technological.

Also on that day, communicator Mercury, the purveyor of news and information, was in adventurous Aries, powerfully aspected (trined) to investigative Pluto in Sagittarius, the sign of publishing and journalism. Pluto denotes depth and all things hidden. Under Pluto’s ray, and aligned with Mercury, we  go deep into our thoughts.  We experience depth perception.

Pluto also represents power, control and transformation. Together with Mercury, we very much want to control and transform others (Pluto rules the masses) through our ideas (Mercury). We strive very hard to have our words unleash a powerful punch so as to have maximum impact.

Pluto also represents ”historic firsts.”  Mercury-Pluto days are often times when we hear about “history-making” events that alter the consciousness of the masses.  So it is not surprising that the Huffington Post has had a history shaping impact on the collective.

Mercury-Pluto is really an ideal aspect to have in a news-oriented horoscope as it is indicative of always trying to get the big scoop, always striving to get to the bottom of things.  This is because it is fueled by an obsessive, insatiable passion for uncovering what lies at the essence of every matter.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Happy Mother’s Day!

And, Happy Fifth Birthday to the Huffington Post!
