Luna – now in her Waxing Gibbous phase with 89% illumination – will spend her first full day in busy Gemini after shifting into that sign late last night. In Gemini, the Moon is more communicative and inquisitive. She is often particularly curious about what is going on in her immediate environment, including perhaps wanting to know what her neighbors are up to. Or maybe wondering who that stranger is walking down her street and why that person is there in the first place?

Luna in Gemini reminds me a little of the nosy next-door neighbor Gladys Kravitz in the old “Bewitched” television series. Do you remember her? Always staring out her front window with a pair of binoculars, invariably looking aghast by what she sees.

A focal point for Luna today will be her conjunction with Mars Rx (2:47 pm) which ought to be interesting as Mars – which will be stationing direct on January 12 – is right now barely moving in the sky and will not even get back to some semblance of its normal speed until early February.

Moon-Mars conjunctions are usually seen as synonymous with our taking some kind of action. But sometimes that action is undertaken too hastily so we may need to be on guard that we don’t inadvertently trip ourselves up with this one.

And, of course, too, Mars is retrograde and Mercury – which rules Gemini – is also retrograde in Capricorn, stationing direct on January 18th, so it is possible that any action that we do take now will end up having to be revised or changed later. This may, however, be a very good time for physically working out, especially as a way to dissolve tension or stress or to perhaps get working on some of those New Year’s resolutions to become fitter.

The Moon in Sagittarius Squares Sun in Virgo (2:08 pm) – This more restless First Quarter Moon signals that it is time for us to get down to business, putting our ideals, aspirations, and intentions into practice. While Luna in the sign of the archer may inspire us to pursue riskier or more daring targets/pursuits, ideally the Sun in synthesizing Virgo helps to shield or pad our actions with protective doses of precision and care so our efforts are hopefully able to gain traction.

Too, we may be provided today with ample opportunity to find creative ways to better manage/subdue/immobilize our inner critic (e.g. inner quality control specialist) so it knows to leave us alone – at least for the time being! 🙂

There’s a First Quarter Moon in spontaneous, futuristic Sagittarius, this Monday, as Luna forms a square to the life-sustaining Sun in precise Virgo (4:39 pm). We are motivated to take action to forge ahead toward our wondrous destiny although we also may feel a bit bothered/constrained by the rules, our inner critic, or perhaps hemmed in by a quest for perfection.

Self-assertive Mars is also anaretic at 29 degrees of Virgo until it enters Libra, tomorrow evening (8:14 pm). Some astrologers refer to this degree as the “fate degree.” More commonly, it’s associated with last-minute pushes to finish things up, even though our energy for such matters may be waning.

Numerologically, the 13th of the month carries a more “no-nonsense” approach to affairs along with resilient determination.

Luna kicks off our Monday in restless, enterprising Aries, perhaps inspiring us to take swift action on matters that (ideally) net immediate results. The Aries Moon is typically best for attending to short-term projects. With Luna also entering her Waxing Crescent Phase, mid-morning (10:40 am), the path toward illumination is really just beginning to build, so this is not the best time for massive leaps forward but rather for focusing on taking smaller action steps that can help to foster more faith and positivity in our capabilities over time. Too, Mercury is still retrograde!

There’s also an opportunity for empowering collaboration or networking with others on shared goals/shared purposes as the energetic Aries Moon forms several sextiles to a stellium of planets in collective-ruling Aquarius, including harmonizing Venus, which is also trining the futuristic North Node in Gemini (12:09 am). Too, it’s possible with the Venus-North Node alignment that certain people could appear on our path today who are very pivotal/instrumental to our future.

Astrologically, when YouTube launched, artistic Venus and imaginative Neptune were exactly conjunct in tech-ruling Aquarius, also the sign of the collective (at 15 degrees), potentially boding well for brand new, online creative endeavors. Neptune also governs films, visual images, and videos. Enterprising Mars was also in entrepreneurial Capricorn and exactly sextile to tech-savvy Uranus in Pisces, an aspect favoring new approaches or innovative strategies.

We get a nice ‘pop’ to start out our Monday with Luna in trailblazing Aries, characteristically a potent catalyst for summoning forth our inner pioneer. The Aries Moon is associated with such personal qualities as boldness, bravery, and enthusiasm. It always encourages us to get off the sidelines and take more independent-type action. Of course, with Luna also moving into its Waning Crescent Phase this afternoon (12:16 pm), what we mainly want to be focusing on now is finishing up old projects versus undertaking anything new. (We will once again be cosmically cleared for new endeavors with the New Moon in Gemini on the 22nd.)

Luna in Aries will also be forming a sextile to communicator Mercury today (at 1:17 pm), which is excellent for getting our thoughts and ideas across to others in a very enthusiastic and direct manner. This is also very good for listening and learning. Plus, Mercury is deposited in its home sign of curious Gemini, so it’s theoretically operating at optimum intellectual capacity!

Too, we still have an expansive Sun trine Jupiter Rx aspect hovering around us today (which was exact yesterday afternoon), which can also beneficially serve to rachet up our optimism and can-do spirit. This can also be positive for business or commerce, especially with the empowering Sun still in materially-minded Taurus and Jupiter Rx in corporate/government-ruling Capricorn. Also, on a collective level, of course, we are seeing many businesses and other enterprises finally re-opening or resuming many of their activities or operations now as governments formally give the go-ahead to do so, which is the sort of growth or moving forward that is typically associated or expected with Jupiter, which archetypally represents abundance and wanting to do things on a grand scale as well as our personal or global vision of the future. Sun-Jupiter energy can also help us to adapt to change as it naturally inspires us to have more trust and faith in ourselves which then enables us to move beyond our fears.

With the waxing Moon, in commanding Leo, trining the enterprising Aries Sun (3:29 pm) there’s more of an innate desire to want to move forward in some perceived “consequential way” today. Ideally, this energetic, fire sign alignment can also inspire or encourage us to act with greater amounts of courage or self-confidence.

Of course, intellectual Mercury’s annual conjunction with foggy Neptune (9:15 pm) is also likely to blur, or at least obscure, a portion of the path that is directly before us now, so we will probably need to just safely assume that some of what we undertake, at the moment, will also possibly need to be retooled or recalibrated later, when more information is known or made available.

We may also want to be a bit on the skeptical side if something we hear, see, or read seems “too good to be true” as Neptune’s ray can, on the shadow side, be very deceptive, vague, or misleading. On the plus side, Mercury-Neptune can be excellent for more creative or imaginative pursuits. It can also increase our sensitivity or compassion for others as well as raise our level of intuitive awareness.

(Interestingly, Neptune also rules oil, and President Trump is meeting with big oil executives, this afternoon, at the White House to discuss the historic slump in oil prices. Yesterday, President Trump told CNBC “Saudi Arabia and Russia may soon announce a big production cut,” which led to the biggest one-day jump in West Texas Intermediate oil futures ever. – From CNBC.com)

Social Venus also enters breezy Gemini, this afternoon (1:11 pm), where it will remain until August 7th (due to an upcoming retrograde cycle). While Venus in Mercury-ruled Gemini is more emotionally-detached, she is also highly curious, and friendly, and thoroughly enjoys communicating, learning, and discussing or sharing ideas. Hopefully, Venus in Gemini will also be a boon or good match for all the online classes or homeschooling, occurring now, in the wake of the recent, temporary closures of many physical schools due to the COVID-19 virus.

Tarot Card For The Day: The Justice Card, which suggests that this is, perhaps, a good day for reflecting upon how our past actions may have brought us to the place where we are now. With Mars at the very end of social and balancing Libra (at the anaretic, 29th-degree mark), there can be a sense of urgency, now, to take some last-minute action on a matter, in a bid to push it through. While this sort of activity is not necessarily good or bad, in and of itself, it may be wise to first consider what our long-term objectives and values are, and how they figure into the big picture before acting. Generally, with energizing Mars, we always want to be mindful of behaving too impulsively.

On the other hand, an anaretic Mars can also endow us with an extra element of bravado or courage to take risks that can ultimately be important or key for our self-development. Last night, for instance, I agreed to take on a social-type project that I had been thinking about doing for a while, but just hadn’t gotten around to it. Also, had I not stepped up to the plate, when I did, the window of opportunity for me to get involved in this thing, would have been closed – typical of the energy of the 29th degree.

The Moon is also in flashy Leo, today, and squaring retrograde Mercury in focused Scorpio (1:53 pm), suggesting we may be mentally grappling with a personal need for extra attention or appreciation. Analytical Mercury Rx is also forming a semi-square to bloated Jupiter in Sagittarius (2:27 pm), cautioning us not to be too dismissive of the details.

With the Waxing Moon still deposited in initiating Aries all day, till this evening, there’s a strong desire for self-focus, independence, adventure, and wanting to make things happen, “right now!” This morning, Luna also forms a flowing trine to optimistic Jupiter, in its home sign of Sagittarius (at 9:00 am), an aspect that tends to make us want to see the best in everything and everybody. This is a very nice influence that can also supply us with an extra dose of self-confidence.

Then, tonight, we begin to ‘rein it in,’ with the Moon entering grounded Taurus (at 6:19 pm), in preparation for the exciting Full Moon in that sign, on Tuesday. The Full Moon will be occurring at 19 degrees of Taurus (exactly on my natal Sun!).

Numerologically, this Sunday is also a “one” day, which ties in nicely with the daytime Aries Moon energy, as “one” days tend to make us more enterprising, more leadership-oriented, more steeped in the mindset of self-determination and “I’ve got this!” The Sun and Mercury in Scorpio also potentially supplying us with a potent reserve of shrewdness or discernment for our nifty toolkit.

Don’t you just love it when you drive your car into a packed parking lot and, suddenly,  another car pulls out from a parking space, exactly in front of where you want to go, and you’re able to get the spot? Well, today, kind of has that same “lucky” feel to it – right place, right time. Especially the first half of the day as transiting Mars in Leo forms a trine with Jupiter Rx in Sagittarius (8:22 am).

This galvanizing planetary influence tends to energize (Mars) our faith, beliefs, self-confidence, and vision (Jupiter), thereby potentially supplying us with a motivating “can-do” spirit.

On another level, Mars-Jupiter aspects also often have a history of ushering in (Mars) new political (Jupiter) leadership, which is what we have just seen occurring in the UK (Boris Johnson), and also in Puerto Rico, with the governor there just announcing he’s stepping down.

Too, because it’s also the 25th day of the month (or a seven-day)  we additionally have more of an idealistic propensity (Neptune) now, which can also inspire us to want to “claim our dreams.”

Also, since we’re still in a waning lunar cycle and Mercury is retrograde, we should continue focusing our efforts on phasing things out or bringing ongoing matters to a completion.

The Waning Moon is also in plodding, practical Taurus the bull, all day, the sign of its “exaltation.” This should serve as a nice “grounding backdrop” for us. It can help us to be more “present in the moment.” Luna in Taurus especially favors engagement with nature as well as activities that indulge or delight our five senses.

The Moon in enterprising, self-focused Aries, all day, motivates us to take direct action on matters, especially action on our own behalf, as well as inspiring us to want to birth something new. We’re also more comfortable with some measure of constraint or discipline placed upon our energy now, especially as the day develops, due to a sextile forming between the Sun in Pisces and perfecting Saturn in Capricorn, which will be exact early tomorrow morning (2:10 am). The Sun-Saturn aspect helps us to cut through the fog and build upon our previous successes. It can potentially offer us some clear guidance or insight into our strengths and weaknesses and how to wield our power in such a way that we’re able to make the best use of our available time and resources. This is also an excellent time to establish or re-establish our priorities. Keeping in mind, too, that Mercury is now retrograde in Pisces so we may be able to presently perceive some things that we might have missed, earlier. Or, we may see things, now, in a new light. Additionally, the Sun-Saturn influence is positive for interactions with authority figures, employers, and those who may act as our mentors. It’s also favorable for retirement planning, or for dealing with issues that affect older individuals. This Day in History: On March 8, 1973, the Eisenhower Tunnel, the world’s highest and US longest, opens 60 miles west of Denver, Colorado. The tunnel was considered an engineering feat, at the time. In the sky that day, expansive Jupiter was in innovative Aquarius, the sign that also governs engineering, and forming almost an exact trine (less than one degree) to transforming Pluto in connecting Libra. Jupiter, along with Mercury, rule travel, and Pluto governs tunnels. On a collective level, Jupiter-Pluto energy often allows us to reshape or transform our world on a large-scale level. It is also an aspect that is associated with mining the riches of the earth. By the way, the Moon was also in earthy Taurus, that day, the sign of its exaltation.
