daily astrology, daily horoscope, going beneath the surface, Mars enters Scorpio 2019, staying power, Third Quarter Moon in Leo

Cosmic Weather:

Activating Mars, which could be thought of as the kind of fuel we run on, enters “premium-grade” Scorpio, this morning (at 2:40 am), where it will remain until early January. In ancient times, Mars was deemed the ruler of Scorpio, but now, it’s considered to be a co-ruler of the sign, along with Pluto. So Mars in Scorpio is quite at home here, unlike when it was in appeasing Libra, a placement which was considered to be in its detriment for Mars, as Libra is opposite Mars-ruled Aries.

In Scorpio, Mars has tremendous staying power or resolve and doesn’t shy away from uncomfortable situations. In fact, Mars in Scorpio tends to embrace more difficult or complex scenarios because it has a natural affinity for whatever is hidden or swept under the rug. So, Mars in focused Scorpio can, potentially, really help us to achieve greater self-awareness or transformation, to help us become clearer regarding our subconscious motivations, or what it is that is driving us, as well as shed light on issues outside of ourselves that we are up to exploring or investigating. It’s like we won’t stop or rest now until we have found exactly what we want or need. Of course, we will also want to check out what house in our natal chart that Mars in Scorpio is moving through as that is the area or sphere of life where we will directly be channeling this energy.

Mars in Scorpio should also be a positive accompaniment for analytical Mercury Rx in Scorpio, which is stationing direct, tomorrow; Mars, hopefully, astutely assisting Mercury now in piecing together and applying to our lives, all the information, insights, and shrewd observations that Mercury has been drudging up in secretive Scorpio since it turned retrograde, on October 31st.

The outgoing Leo Moon is also in its Third Quarter today, squaring the probing Scorpio Sun (at 4:10 pm), at 27 degrees. With the Moon in this phase, we want to focus on wrapping things up versus starting anything new (the new stuff is for next week’s New Moon in Sagittarius). It could be, too, that the square aspect today makes us aware of some issues going on behind the scenes, or below the surface, that may cause us to question or ponder our need for dominance or control.

Cosmic Weather:

Today (especially the first half) is excellent for putting on our stylish thinking caps and doing some serious planning, especially engaging in long-term planning for our future. This is because Mercury, in precise Virgo (the planet that shows how we think, reason or make sense of things), is forming a flowing trine to structuring Saturn Rx in utilitarian Capricorn (Saturn is the planet that provides us with a reality check; it also represents our limits and capabilities).

In general, Mercury trining Saturn helps foster practical, more efficient ways of thinking, communicating, and relating. Also, due to the more cautious nature of Saturn, we are more likely now to want to stick with the tried-and-true, or what has, otherwise, already been tested and shown to be reliable.

Later in the day, meanwhile, the First Quarter Moon in “adventurous” Sagittarius  (11:10 pm), can find us more than a little willing, again, to experiment, or to throw caution to the wind, which is something that can potentially cause us a bit of inner angst or discord as the transiting Virgo planetary stellium now would much prefer that everything be neatly tied up and packaged with a nice bow on top. 🙂 On the other hand, the positive side to this lunar phase is that it’s showing us that we’re continually wanting to grow and become more of who we are, and that’s always a good thing!

“Without leaps of imagination or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities. Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning.” Gloria Steinem

Activities favored today: Studying more serious disciplines such as math, science, architecture, or engineering; having serious, practical discussions with established authority figures or persons in power; organizing one’s workspace or work duties; having or scheduling a hearing test or a bone-density test; retirement planning; budget planning.

Born on This Day: American comedian and stand-up actor, Bob Newhart, known for his deadpan humor, turns 90 years old today.

(Newhart, a Virgo Sun, has Mercury exactly conjunct Mars in pleasing, diplomatic Libra. Mercury conjunct Mars generally produces a great deal of mental energy and mental alertness or quickness. Both of these planets in Newhart’s chart are also opposite spontaneous, irreverent Uranus, the planet of genius and inventiveness, in pioneering Aries.)

“I don’t like country music, but I don’t mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means ‘put down’.” Bob Newhart 🙂

Cosmic Weather:

In case Oprah calls us up today and inquisitively asks her trademark question, “What do you know for sure?”, it appears that we’re well-poised to be able to respond to her with greater specificity or clarity now as articulator Mercury in “exacting” Virgo is forming a conjunction to both motivating Mars and the ego-conscious Sun.  These planetary aspects potentially tend to increase our overall mental lucidity regarding our perceptions of life and the meaning or integrating of our individual life experiences.

“What I know for sure is that what you give comes back to you.” Oprah Winfrey

There can also be a more passionate desire now to want to communicate or act upon our thoughts, ideas, and musings in a very enterprising and determined way. There’s also likely an enhanced drive to get things done and to solve problems.

Additionally, the reflective Moon is in transformational Scorpio, and well-aspected, suggesting a natural proclivity for scaling deeper, particularly on a psychological level. On the shadow side, there’s possibly more potential for heated arguments, sarcastic remarks, and impulsive decision-making.

“Don’t raise your voice, improve your argument.” Desmond Tutu

Favored activities today: Intellectual debates, writing, journaling, editing, reading, learning new things, research, scuba diving, health checkups, antiquing, psychotherapy, tax work, lab work, investigations or detective work.

On This Day in History: On September 3, 1977,  the final CBS repeat of the last episode of “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” is aired on the network.

Astrologically, in the sky that evening (when the episode was shown), the grounding Moon in Taurus was exactly square to retiring Saturn in entertainment Leo (Moon-Saturn aspects often time endings or partings). Broadcaster Mercury was also in chronicling Virgo and exactly square to dissolving Neptune, the planetary ruler of film and TV, which was deposited in inspirational Sagittarius.

“My grandfather once said, having watched me one entire afternoon, prancing and leaping and cavorting, ‘This child will either end up on stage or in jail.’ Fortunately, I took the easy route.” Mary Tyler Moore

Hope it’s a good one!

Cosmic Weather:

“A point of view can be a dangerous luxury when substituted for insight and understanding.” Marshall McLuhan

With intellectual Mercury, in logical Virgo, and in a flowing, waxing trine to innovative Uranus (our inner Einstein), in pragmatic Taurus (10:10 am), it’s possible today that we will get a chance to see the sudden sprouting of some very cool ideas or insights that can help to shift things around for us in a very useful way (Virgo). Overall, this is an excellent day for brainstorming, in general, including evaluating/rethinking anything related to technology (Uranus) or quality control. Optimally, our ability to absorb anything more of a technical nature is also enhanced.

This may also be a very good time to look at or deal with our personal financial or career fitness (Uranus in Taurus) with an eye on how to shore it up, or improve it, over the long haul, as balancing Venus in organizing Virgo (the planetary ruler of materially-minded Taurus), is also forming a waning, harmonizing trine to Saturn in professionally-minded Capricorn (2:48 pm), with Saturn symbolizing the solidifying structure or foundation in our lives (Saturn also governs old age and retirement). Too, taking care of “unfinished business” first (such as paying off old debts) may be one of the best ways to forge ahead now.

“We tend to focus on assets and forget about debts. Financial security requires facing up to the big picture: assets minus debts.” Suze Orman

Additionally, the Venus-Saturn energy can also make us more mindful of our duties and responsibilities to others. Occasionally, Venus-Saturn is also associated with the formation of “May-December” romances.

Favored Activities Today: Engaging in mentoring relationships; financial and/or retirement planning; joining clubs or organizations to enhance our professional standing or our standing in the community; redecorating to achieve more of a “minimalist effect.”

Born on September 1st: Comedian Lily Tomlin in Detroit, Michigan. Tomlin turns 80 years old today.

“When I was growing up I always wanted to be someone. Now I realize I should have been more specific.” Lily Tomlin. 🙂

Today’s Astrology for August 30, 2019: A New Moon in Tweaking Virgo

cutting edge, daily astrology, daily horoscope, detox, habits, invention, Mary Shelley author of Frankenstein born on August 30, New Moon in Virgo 2019, numerology, self-improvement

Cosmic Weather:

“There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.”  Ernest Hemingway

With a potent New Moon taking place today in “tweaking” Virgo (6:37 am), the sign of health, work, and service, there’s likely a growing momentum occurring now to roll out the “new and improved” versions of things (including ourselves!), in the days ahead. In general, this is always an excellent lunation period for any kind of problem-solving, for practical negotiations, for DIY projects, for decluttering, detoxifying, editing, for implementing new health regimes, adding new habits, for perfecting our skills.

This New Moon also finds a total of five planets (a stellium) in corrective Virgo (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars), which suggests a strong ability to focus or concentrate on the extraneous details (or the infrastructure) of our daily lives to discern how everything is – or isn’t – working. Also, for those of us who seem to have more difficulty focusing on the small stuff, just the sheer act of getting more organized – a Virgo trait – is often a very good way to become more aware of all the pivotal minutiae circulating around.

Both Mars (assertion) and Venus (wants) are also conjunct the Sun and the Moon now, with Mercury (communication) not very far away, so there’s a great deal of single-minded motivation, determination, and energy to actively pursue our desires, or whatever it is that we want to attract (including love and romance). There may also be a heightened ability to work in a very precise, orderly, and methodical manner, and to communicate with others on more of a factual (or reality-based) level.

The Mars conjunction (to the Sun and Moon) can also indicate a potential for displaying real courage or bravery, depending upon the situation, as well as possibly a good amount of competitiveness and wanting to do things our own way. The Mars-Sun energy will also be exact, for the next few days, and in health and research-minded Virgo, there’s a possibility that some notable discoveries or advances will be made (perhaps in healing or medicine). Mars-Sun aspects, particularly the conjunction, have a marked trailblazing quality to them, which can be very invigorating to experience. Perhaps, too, if there’s been something you’ve wanted to try but have been hesitant to do so, for whatever reason, now might be a good time give it a whirl, or to at least take a first baby step, in that direction.

Altogether, too, there are eight planets in the grounding earth signs, which strongly suggests that there’s special finesse or talent now in dealing with the tangible affairs of the world (especially money, security, and career). It’s also an excellent period for strategically planning the use or allocation of our resources.

Sometimes, too, a concentration of planets in “shrinking” Virgo is associated with having more of a myopic vision as far as the bigger picture is concerned. However, today’s lunation also has all of the Virgo planets trining Uranus (the planet of innovation and technology), in pragmatic Taurus, suggesting that there’s a real receptivity or fascination now for whatever’s progressive, cutting-edge, or apart from the norm, thereby making it also potentially easier for us to embrace the idea of change or newness.

“Habits also make change possible by freeing us from decision-making and from using self-control.” Gretchen Rubin (author of “Better Than Before”)

Numerologically, today (8-30-2019) also reduces down to both a 3 (Jupiter) and a 5 (Mercury), so there’s some optimism, desire for sociability, and a feeling of expansion (the 3 side) as well as a good measure of nimbleness and curiosity at play (5).

*All times EDT

On This Day in History: Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein, was born on August 30, 1797, in London, England. (Frankenstein was an instant bestseller on publication in 1818 and has long been regarded as a masterpiece of suspense, a classic of nineteenth-century Romanticism and Gothic horror, and the prototype of the science fiction novel. From Wikipedia)

Astrologically, in the sky that day (and in Shelley’s birth-chart), there was a stellium in “tinkering” Virgo (like today), with adventurous, initiator Mars newly-deposited at 0 degrees of Virgo and in a near-exact opposition to darkhorse Pluto, Lord of the Underworld. (Mars-Pluto energy can also give a fascination with the macabre.) The life-giving Sun was also deposited in analytical Virgo and conjunct inventive, ingenious Uranus (possibly helpful for writing science fiction; Sci-Fi writer, Ray Bradbury, also had a Sun-Uranus opposition aspect in his chart).

“Beware; for I am fearless, and therefore powerful.” Mary Shelley, Frankenstein

Happy New Moon Blessings!

Anniversary of Elvis Presley's death, daily astrology, daily horoscope, genius, Mars in Leo, meditation, Mercury square Uranus, Moon in Pisces, new ideas, personal power

Cosmic Weather:

Just because something is “new” doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s better; however, birthing new ideas can often be something that can be pretty cool for us to experience because new ideas (just by their very nature of being “fresh off the mental press”) can tend to make us feel more alive inside, more rejuvenated, more hopeful. They can also even, sometimes, radically turn our lives around when we do decide to act upon them (depending, of course, on what they are).

Anyway, with “thinker” Mercury in creative Leo squaring “our inner Einstein” Uranus (the planet of genius and geekiness), in solidifying Taurus today (1:07 pm), there’s hopefully a better than average chance that the charitable muses will be paying each of us a cordial visit and doling out to us at least a few, original, powerhouse thoughts, ideas, or perceptions that we can then add or incorporate into our nifty toolkits to hopefully take us places that we’ve always wanted to go but were never quite sure how to get there. (Uranus is considered to denote the superconscious mind and is also thought to be the “higher octave” of Mercury, while Mercury represents “the conscious mind, conscious awareness.” Uranus is also associated with flashes of intuition or sudden knowing.)

Of course, just like with everything else in life, there’s also potentially a rogue element or shadow side to today’s Mercury-Uranus square. Some manifestations of this might include: displaying rebellious or cantankerous behavior (throwing temper tantrums), experiencing increased mental restlessness, engaging in impulsive decision making. Uranus also symbolizes dissent or protest, challenges to the status quo. It may be a time when we’re more inclined to speak up (Mercury) about issues that appear to affect our sense of personal freedom or liberty (Uranus).

On another level, on Mercury-Uranus days we often hear things (Mercury) that really take us by surprise because they’re so unexpected (Uranus). Too, with Uranus in material Taurus, it’s possible that there could be some surprises or twists on the financial front, or regarding things that sustain us or make us feel more secure (including our values).

Action planet Mars is also at 29 degrees of authoritative Leo (a critical degree), today and tomorrow (entering Virgo, early Sunday morning). When Mars is at the end of the sign, there’s often a strong motivating desire to give something a “final push” to bring it about, especially if we’re already (perceived to be) close to the finish line. With Mars in proud Leo we may also feel a potent desire to exercise our personal power now.

Meanwhile, the Moon is also now in meditative Pisces, suggesting we make some time, along the way, for inner reflection or prayer. Numerologically, too, today (8-16-2019) reduces down to both a (dreamy) 7 and (self-mastery) 9, sort of re-iterating this Piscean theme for turning inward as a way to renewal now.

“I think making mistakes and discovering them for yourself is of great value, but to have someone else to point out your mistakes is a shortcut of the process.” Shelby Foote

*All times EDT

On This Day in History: On August 16, 1977, Elvis Presley (“the King”) died at Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee.

Astrologically then (just two days earlier), there had been a New Moon in “kingly” Leo, (the sign of entertainment), with both the Sun and Moon in Leo in a tight conjunction to sobering Saturn, the Lord of Karma. (I remember reading a book about Elvis, several years ago, and in it there was mention that Elvis always kept a copy of Kahlil Gibran’s “The Prophet” by his bed. He was also, reportedly, interested in numerology.)

“Some people tap their feet, some people snap their fingers, and some people sway back and forth. I just sorta do ’em all together, I guess.” Elvis Presley

Cosmic Weather:

A warm, amiable Sun-Venus conjunction in creative Leo (ideally) magnifies our wants and desires, our popularity, our artistic expression, our orientation towards cooperation, love, harmony, and celebration. This is a very lovely influence that can really make us want to beautify our life, our appearance, our surroundings. Natally, when people have Sun conjunct Venus in their charts, they’re usually very adept at being able to smooth things over, to make connections with others. Occurring in Leo, too, there can be quite a bit of flair for fashion, for drama or the theatrical, for attracting attention to ourselves in a potent, charming, or charismatic way.

On the flip side, however, this same Sun-Venus conjunction also forms an awkward quinqunx to investigative Pluto in “no-frills” (Saturn-ruled) Capricorn, which could potentially serve to temporarily arouse our suspicions or find us probing deeper into the shadows, looking for what may be broken, disturbed, or, seemingly, just “not quite right,” below the surface. This is not necessarily a bad thing – maybe more like performing a maintenance check or a diagnostic on our system after sensing something might be a bit off.

The waxing Moon is also in emotionally detached Aquarius today, which can help us to see things in a more intellectual light. This position for Luna can also incline us to be more experimental or non-conforming in our approach to matters. Sometimes, too, with Luna here we’re more willing to espouse or rally behind social or humanitarian causes.

Too, since we have a Full Moon in Aquarius tomorrow, we may really be getting a strong sense of things building up or culminating now. Full Moons tend to supply us with more illumination, or greater awareness. Occurring in Aquarius, too, perhaps we’re trying to figure out now our unique, special place in the world (Sun in Leo), where we can really shine but also, at the same time, give back something meaningful to the collective (Moon in Aquarius).

Numerologically, the day (8-14-2019) reduces down to a 5 (Mercury-ruled) and 7 (Neptune-ruled), so we do have a pronounced “changeability” or “back and forth” vibe going on, and a boost of mental stimulation. But, also a strong desire for dreams and inspiration.

“And I am all the things I have ever loved: scuppernong wine, cool baptisms in silent water, dream books and number playing.” Toni Morrison

On This Day in History: On August 14, 1965, Sonny and Cher’s “I Got You Babe” hits #1.

Cosmic Weather:

“The most confused you will ever get is when you try to convince your heart and spirit of something your mind knows is a lie.” Shannon L. Adler

Oh, boy! We get to start out our Monday with the waxing Moon in “keeping it real” Capricorn, the sign ruled by judgemental Saturn. Meaning, it’s also report card time when we formally have a chance to grade ourselves on our scintillating, academy award-winning performances (Sun in Leo), as of late, and decide whether or not they’re taking us to where we want to go, or need to be. Capricorn’s all about “less fluff, and more stuff!”

Thankfully, too, since we’re all presumably adults here, it’s not required that we actually have to show our report cards to our spouses, mates, friends, neighbors, etc. unless it’s something that we willingly want to do (most likely for bragging rights, of course, if we’ve been doing a good job).

Generally, when the transiting Moon’s in earthy Capricorn, we crave the security of organization and tried-and-true structure around us. We also tend to take greater pride in our work and reputation and are more inclined now to seek out recognition (and well-deserved pay raises!) for our mighty efforts.

The Capricorn Moon will also be having its notable, monthly meetup with “power broker” Pluto, this evening (6:11 pm). This more intense emotional energy normally predisposes us to go after our desires with increased gusto, passion, focus or purpose. It also potentially has a strong healing or transmutational vibe to it. On the shadow side, it can coincide with overly assertive power plays or manipulative behavior. Moon-Pluto is nearly always a perfect time to do de-weeding, to take out the trash, recycle or renovate, perform archeological digs, do channeling, investigate, have psychotherapy, take or review X-rays (part of checking what is hidden below).

Numerologically, today (8-12-2019) reduces down to both a “3” and a “5”. The “3” aspect suggests some reverence for traditionalism or history; it can also incline us to want to ambitiously climb to the top of the totem pole! The “5” element injects an impulsive quality to the day, and a changeability.

*All times EDT

On This Day in History: On August 12, 1972, the last American combat troops leave Vietnam.

Astrologically, that day, Mars (ruling war and the military) was at 29 degrees of dominant Leo (a critical degree) and exactly forming a waning trine to philosophical, politically-oriented Jupiter Rx at 29 degrees of Sagittarius (the sign which rules foreign lands and cultures). The Mars-Jupiter waning trine also perhaps allowing us then to more broadly see or grasp the “bigger picture” view/outcome/result (Jupiter Rx) of our “militaristic actions” (Mars) in Vietnam. Pluto, representing shifts in power, was also newly-installed in diplomatic, peace-seeking Libra then, at 0 degrees of the sign.

“Television brought the brutality of war into the comfort of the living room. Vietnam was lost in the living rooms of America — not on the battlefields of Vietnam.” Marshall McLuhan

Cosmic Weather:

Sometimes, things are so easy or obvious for us to perceive. Other times, however, it seems a real struggle to even see or detect what’s smack right in front of us! Kind of like we have blinders on or something. Today, with the Sun in bright, shiny Leo awkwardly aligned with foggy, dissipating Neptune (8:44 pm), there’s a possibility that we’ll be impacted by more of the latter type of scenario now.

The tricky thing about illusionary, deceptive Neptune, too, is that it’s wishful ray often makes us see only what we want to see, instead of what’s really there. It’s kind of like we erect an invisible wall or barrier up around us and only allow certain elements to our liking to filter through it. It could be, too, that we’re a bit weary now, and need a rest.

On the shadow side, Sun-Neptune can also sometimes make us feel more disillusioned with our lives, partly because we may be feeling, overall, less grounded now. For instance, things that we may have turned to earlier for anchoring or support, we may sense now that they are somehow passing away from us, and we may be unsure of how to handle their removal or disintegration in our lives, or what exactly to replace them with. Too, part of the lesson (or gift) of today’s Sun-Neptune energy is to perhaps teach us how to live (thrive) in the face of the various uncertainties or ambiguities that are a normal part of life on the Earth plane.

Anyway, since it’s a Saturday, it might be an ideal time to just chill out and take it easy. It’s not like we have to do heavy lifting every day of the week! Plus, Sun-Neptune is potentially very advantageous for any creative, artistic, or imaginative outlets (give our intuitive right brains a nice workout). This energy can also help sensitize us to others now, especially with respect to what they’re feeling or going through.

Additionally, it’s the 10th day of the month, or a “one day,” numerologically, which does suggest there’s quite a bit of power or dynamism to the day (despite the elusive Neptunian element), as the life-giving Sun rules the number one. Normally, on “one” days, we feel like initiating something new. Perhaps, just breaking with our normal routines and doing something out of the ordinary now might be a good way to express ourselves, this weekend (also simultaneously helping to create more of a sense of spaciousness around us). The Moon is also still in adventurous Sagittarius, all day, so our emotional receptivity to experiencing new things is still quite high.

On This Day in History: On August 10, 1960, the Los Angeles premiere of Alfred Hitchcock’s (iconic) “Psycho” film starring Anthony Perkins and Janet Leigh occurs.

Not surprisingly, in the sky that day, energizer Mars, at 5 degrees of cerebral Gemini, was exactly square to intensely suspenseful Pluto, the Grand Master of the macabre,  at 5 degrees of perfecting Virgo.

Jupiter was also retrograde in visionary Sagittarius and applying to a flowing, two-degree trine to Uranus, the planet of genius, in motion-picture Leo.

Hope it’s a good one!

Cosmic Weather:

“May you never become so cynical that you let a star fall without its wish.” Nicole Lyons

Today’s cosmic energy (“power of attraction” Venus in magnanimous Leo trining “abundant” Jupiter Rx in philanthropic Sagittarius) formally invites the “Fairy Godmother” (archetype) to suddenly appear in our lives, ideally granting us each three wishes while also spreading much-needed kindness and love all around the globe. Kind of a tough act to beat or follow. Let’s just hope that she still has all her manifestation powers intact and doesn’t run out of golden parachutes before she gets around to you and me! 🙂

Generally, when Venus (love) and Jupiter (optimism) align there’s more of a desire to “lift ourselves up” on all levels, both individually and collectively. There’s also more of a desire for seeking out pleasurable pursuits. It’s always so cool, too, when we forget about our woes and worries, for a while, and do something fun or enjoyable because we often feel so much better afterward, physically, mentally, and emotionally. This “feel-good energy” is also partly because the brain releases the “happiness hormones” (endorphins, dopamine, and serotonin) when we’re having a good time or feeling relaxed and confident.

Today (August 8) is also an “8” day and reduces down to a “1” (when you add up the numbers for the day, month, and year). In Chinese culture, the number 8 is associated with wealth, fortune or prosperity. Astrologically, the number 8 is linked with the planet Saturn and responsibility. The number one is also ruled by the Sun and portends leadership ability and creative new beginnings. Overall, an 8-1 day suggests great determination and know-how to forge through any obstacles to get to where you want to be. In the Tarot, these two numbers are also symbolized by the Magician Card (One) and the Strength Card (8).

Finally, waxing Luna will also be wrapping up her stay in emotionally charged Scorpio, this afternoon (4:34 pm), at which time she’ll be flitting into “home on the range” Sagittarius, where she’ll be scoping out bunches of greener pastures. The inspirational Sadge Moon backdrop is also hopefully a perfect setting for allowing the more voluminous Venus-Jupiter energy (exact at 4:27 pm) to work its golden, fairy-dust magic.

“The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” W.B. Yeats

All times EDT

On This Day in History: On August 8, 1968, the Republican Convention in Miami Beach, Florida nominates Richard Nixon (b. January 9, 1913) for US President.

Astrologically, that day, transiting Mars, the energizer, was newly-installed in leadership Leo, at 2 degrees of the sign (in Nixon’s 11th house of friends and groups). Transiting Saturn, the Lord of Karma, was also stationing retrograde in assertive, self-willed Aries, the sign of new beginnings.

Transiting Mars in Leo was also exactly opposite Nixon’s natal Uranus, the planet of change and the unexpected, at 2 degrees of Aquarius (in Nixon’s fifth house of self-expression). Mars-Uranus aspects sometimes instantly change the world or landscape around us, often in radical or game-shifting ways.

Too, Nixon had transiting Pluto, symbolizing rebirth and transformation, conjunct his Virgo Ascendant or First House (the house of personal new beginnings). Pluto also symbolizes the urge for power and control and conjunct the Ascendant it can mark a time when we become more persuasive or influential in the world. On the shadow side, too, Pluto can potentially make us more of a control freak. (Nixon would later resign as President on August 9, 1974, or forty-five years ago, tomorrow, when the transiting South Node in Gemini was exactly conjunct his Midheaven or career house. In the sky that day, too, transiting Mars in corrective Virgo was separating from an exact square to dissolving Neptune (the planet of deception) in politician-ruling Sagittarius. Mars-Neptune aspects are often associated with surrender or capitulation. That aspect also matched the uncertainty or “up in the air” quality that America was going through at the time. Challenging Mars-Neptune aspects are often described as being similar to having a rug pulled out from under you.

“Only if you have been in the deepest valley, can you ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain.” Richard Nixon

Hope it’s a good one!
