Mercury conjunct Neptune, Moon in Leo, oil, taking action, venus enters gemini

Cosmic Weather:

With the waxing Moon, in commanding Leo, trining the enterprising Aries Sun (3:29 pm) there’s more of an innate desire to want to move forward in some perceived “consequential way” today. Ideally, this energetic, fire sign alignment can also inspire or encourage us to act with greater amounts of courage or self-confidence.

Of course, intellectual Mercury’s annual conjunction with foggy Neptune (9:15 pm) is also likely to blur, or at least obscure, a portion of the path that is directly before us now, so we will probably need to just safely assume that some of what we undertake, at the moment, will also possibly need to be retooled or recalibrated later, when more information is known or made available.

We may also want to be a bit on the skeptical side if something we hear, see, or read seems “too good to be true” as Neptune’s ray can, on the shadow side, be very deceptive, vague, or misleading. On the plus side, Mercury-Neptune can be excellent for more creative or imaginative pursuits. It can also increase our sensitivity or compassion for others as well as raise our level of intuitive awareness.

(Interestingly, Neptune also rules oil, and President Trump is meeting with big oil executives, this afternoon, at the White House to discuss the historic slump in oil prices. Yesterday, President Trump told CNBC “Saudi Arabia and Russia may soon announce a big production cut,” which led to the biggest one-day jump in West Texas Intermediate oil futures ever. – From CNBC.com)

Social Venus also enters breezy Gemini, this afternoon (1:11 pm), where it will remain until August 7th (due to an upcoming retrograde cycle). While Venus in Mercury-ruled Gemini is more emotionally-detached, she is also highly curious, and friendly, and thoroughly enjoys communicating, learning, and discussing or sharing ideas. Hopefully, Venus in Gemini will also be a boon or good match for all the online classes or homeschooling, occurring now, in the wake of the recent, temporary closures of many physical schools due to the COVID-19 virus.

Tarot Card For The Day: The Justice Card, which suggests that this is, perhaps, a good day for reflecting upon how our past actions may have brought us to the place where we are now. Overall, this card represents karma, fairness, and balance. In some cases, it can also denote the need for taking legal action.

Numerology for April 3, 2020: The number three (ruled by Jupiter) is associated with expansion, optimism, and social interaction.  It also confers a special ability to creatively weave different threads (or factions) into one composite whole. On the shadow side, there can be more of a need for adulation or control.

“I used to think that prizes were damaging and divisive until I got one. And now they seem sort of meaningful and real.” Bill Nighy

Hope it’s a good one!

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Each of us seems to have a main focus, a particular idea of practicality – a concept of ‘what we want out of life’ against which we judge our experiences.” Jane Roberts

The illuminating Sun, denoting our spirit, enters earthy Taurus today (6:18 am EDT), the sign of money and possessions (where it will stay for the next month).  The Sun in Taurus imbues us with a more practical focus and greater desire for stability.

The anchoring Taurus Sun also forms an interesting sextile to dreamy Neptune in oceanic Pisces. So, it could be that we are able to manifest (Taurus) some of our dreams (Neptune) today. Too, even though the Sun is now in tangible, down-to-earth Taurus, the Sun’s soothing linkup with spiritual guru Neptune helps to provide a certain mystical or reflective quality to this day.

The Moon’s entrance into visionary Sagittarius (2:51 am EDT) also serves to sort of reiterate this “transcendent” theme. Sagittarius the Archer encourages us to “reach for the stars” and broaden our horizons through travel, philosophy, higher education, religion. Lest we forget, too, we still have four planets in fiery, adventurous Aries with Love Goddess Venus also moving into that sign tomorrow.

In the News: Perhaps fittingly, with the Sun’s sextile to Neptune bringing “sea-worthy” things to mind, we are also poignantly marking the one-year anniversary of the BP oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history.

A year ago today, taskmaster Saturn at 29 degrees of Virgo (Virgo oversees the management of resources) was in a tight opposition to unpredictable Uranus at 28 degrees of Pisces (Pisces rules both the sea and oil). This opposition aspect can often be a more “disruptive” influence, especially when we do not “play by the rules (Uranus).” Saturn was also forming a challenging quinqunx aspect to confusing Neptune (the ruler of Pisces) at 28 degrees of Aquarius.

Saturn is often billed as the “Lord of Karma.” It is the planet of accountability and responsibility (it also symbolically represents the Earth). When we have more difficult Saturn influences we often experience the more challenging consequences of our actions (reaping our karma, in other words). Here in the case of the oil spill, BP has also reportedly acknowledged that serious errors were made leading up to the disaster (the ‘tried and true” Saturn protocol was not maintained).

Famous Birthdays April 20th: Ryan O’Neal (70), Jessica Lange (62). Also, my late dog, Coco (depicted below), would have been 15 years old today, so it’s kind of a sad day for me. Coco died two years ago. The latter portion of her life, she was blind, deaf and diabetic, but she never seemed to let any of that get her down. She was a real trooper (had an Aries Moon.) She was perhaps the gentlest animal I ever had. I miss her every day. Love you, Coco Puff! Your mama’s thinking about you.

Astrology April 1, 2011: “Time of Transition” Mars and Moon at End of Pisces

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It’s the transition that’s troublesome.” Isaac Asimov.

This is the last day for energizer Mars in watery, reflective Pisces (enters Aries, the sign of its rulership, 12:51 am EDT Sat.) Also, this is the last full day for the emotional Moon in Pisces, as it also shifts into fiery, enterprising Aries tomorrow (7:17 am EDT), a time when the “pace of life” could dramatically quicken for many of us. The Moon and Mars will be joining the Sun, Mercury, Jupiter and Uranus in Aries.

Also, whenever Mars changes signs, we always want to pay closer attention to events in the world, as Mars can signal pivotal changes for the matters associated with the zodiacal sign it is entering (Mars provides momentum). For instance, when Mars entered Pisces this last time on February 23rd, is when oil prices suddenly started to surge. Pisces rules oil. Aries is more “confronting-type” energy associated with conflict and war (rules the military and law enforcement). Aries also rules adventure, record-setting and pioneering new territory. It additionally governs athletes and sports.

Too, we have a New Moon in Aries on Sunday, with New Moons signifying “new beginnings” and with it occurring in Aries, the official sign of “new beginnings,” we are effectively getting a “double-whammy” here. Assertive Mars will also be conjuncting unpredictable, wild card Uranus in Aries on Saturday, a planet also known for liberation and discovery, which is a good fit for the similar Aries-type energy it is deposited in.

Needless to say, today we are on the brink of a very highly-charged energy pattern, perhaps the most intense of the year. Aries is all about initiating action and propelling ourselves and our world forward, often at warp speed.

Today, we may want to use this “transitional” Piscean energy to make sure that we have all of our players ready for bat and have a clear idea of how we want to pitch this new Aries ballgame. In line with this, we will want to be putting the finishing touches on our intentions now to be released at the Aries New Moon this weekend.

“You don’t save a pitcher for tomorrow. Tomorrow it may rain.” Leo Durocher

(Mosaic Sun: http://www.sxc.hu/photo/1327692)

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Forgiveness is not always easy. At times, it feels more painful than the wound we suffered, to forgive the one who inflicted it. And yet, there is no peace without forgiveness.” Marianne Williamson

The maternal Moon leaves intense Scorpio and enters zealous Sagittarius (7:46 am EST), forming challenging squares to the stellium of planets in sea and oil-based Pisces (Mars, Chiron, Mercury, Sun). Warrior Mars also conjuncts wounded healer Chiron. Manic Mars is additionally sesquiquadrate to denying Saturn in matrimonial Libra. Too, expansive Jupiter in fighter Aries is square to controlling, debt-minded Pluto in governmental Capricorn (exact this Friday).

I turned on the radio in bed this morning and it seemed that almost every news story was gloomy: The tragic earthquake in New Zealand, with hundreds still missing. The tragic civil war in Libya, and growing fear mounting among world leaders that Moammar Gadhafi may resort to using chemical weapons, including mustard gas, on his own people.

Then we have spiking oil prices which is going to likely create further hardship for many, and potentially stall economies worldwide (refer to my earlier blog on Mars entering Pisces and its affect on oil). Also, I heard on the radio about spikes in the incidence of whooping cough, even though there is a vaccine for it. Then there was further reporting of the ongoing budgetary standoff between Republicans and Democrats in Wisconsin which has spread to other states (very Jupiter-Pluto with again Pluto ruling debt).

Of course, the current cosmic activity conveniently explains all the turbulence, calamity, and unrest. My personal dilemma: How to write an upbeat daily horoscope forecast when there is so much visible suffering out there in the world now?

Too, yesterday, I personally had a freak, high-speed collision in my hallway with one of my ferocious toy poodles. I may have broken my middle toe in my left foot, so my foot is aching like crazy now. No consolation, either, that accident-monger Mars just moved into Pisces which rules the frickin’ foot, and is also moving through my 12th house of confinement! 🙂 My dog Boo, the lovable perpetrator of this weird, Neptunian incident, appears to be fine. BTW, Boo also has his natal Mars in Pisces which, I’m sure, also played a key factor here in my receipt of pain from the little canine beast.

The Moon’s entrance into fiery, enthusiastic Sagittarius and exactly square to the Pisces stellium of planets makes us much more restless and adventurous today. Accordingly, more likely to engage in “risk-taking” behavior. Too, Jupiter-ruled Sagittarius is very “cause-minded” and can be fanatical with respect to its beliefs and convictions, as can be underdog Pisces (which is co-ruled by Jupiter).

Pisces keywords are “serve or suffer” and Pisces is often willing to sacrifice whatever it has to, in order to see its ideals realized, including if it means playing the martyr/victim role. This Pisces aspect of martyrdom is even accentuated more today with aggressor Mars’ exact conjunction to Chiron. It is the nature of Mars to attack, as part of its survival mindset, and linked with Chiron, it is possible now that fresh wounds may be inflicted (the massacres in Libya). Transiting Mars to Chiron can also signify the need to come to terms “with prior deep wounds” from both our individual and collective past.

I mentioned in my “Mars in Pisces” blog the other day, that the very day Chiron initially entered Pisces (oil) last year, we had the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Now today a top news story is the fear of oil spiking to $120 a barrel soon. Also there’s concern about Gadhafi blowing up oil lines. The Jupiter square Pluto can also, on the shadow side, symbolically denote a “tyrant out of control,” with Jupiter leading to excess and Pluto ruling dictators.

Also, as I am writing this, the NYT.com is reporting that a British court has  just ruled WikiLeaks‘ founder, Julian Assange, must be extradited to Sweden to face allegations of sexual assault by two women there. Jupiter rules legal proceedings; Pluto rules sexual assault, as well as covert activities and spying. When Jupiter was exactly square to Pluto last year on July 25th is when Wikileaks reportedly released some 9,000 classified documents on the Afghan war, so there seems to be a Jupiter-Pluto and Assange tie here going on. Again, Jupiter-Pluto is exact to the dot tomorrow (at 3:41 pm EST) and this aspect has essentially been applying in influence for the last couple weeks or so. Assange and his legal team reportedly have seven days to appeal the court’s ruling today.

I could write much more now about the planets, as there is so much going on, including the Mars-Saturn 135-degree aspect which means like, what the late Rodney Dangerfield used to say, “we may get very little respect today,” from higher-ups and partners. But, due to my throbbing foot, I’m going to have to cut it short. Too, we need to remember that, while we cannot always control what happens to us, we can control our reaction to it. We do have free will. I am going to keep reminding myself of this handy little fact as I try to soothe my achy foot. Also, despite everything going on, many of us do still have much to be thankful for. It is part of the “Pisces” experience to sometimes expose us to pain and suffering in a bid to make us more compassionate and caring with others. We realize how vulnerable we all are living on the earth plane. But, too, we must never give up hope and faith in a brighter day. Pisces is, after all, our “link to the Divine.” And, the sign of miracles.

“A gentle word, a kind look, a good-natured smile can work wonders and accomplish miracles.” William Hazlitt

MARS IN PISCES

“How much has to be explored and discarded before reaching the naked flesh of feeling?” Claude Debussy

On February 22nd, Mars, symbolizing the aggressive urge, dives into emotional Pisces (8:06 pm EST), where it will, no doubt, try to make a big splash over the next six weeks. It is characteristically the nature of Mars to “stir things up,” as he represents our physical energy and ignites our passions, although when he is submerged underwater in Pisces, much of his “fire” is put out.

But, lest we get fooled by warrior Mars here, he can still be a barracuda! But, generally, he prefers to avoid direct confrontation in Pisces, if at all possible. Mars in Pisces also tends more toward passive aggressive behavior, or misplaced aggression.

However, with all that said, this time around, we still do have a lot of fiery “martian” energy at our disposal now, because expansive Jupiter is deposited in potent Mars-ruled Aries, actually in mutual reception with Mars, as Jupiter co-rules Pisces. Too, Jupiter is, and has been for the last few weeks, in a powerful square to obsessive Pluto (exact on Friday) which can make us more bent on pursuing unrestricted, “new beginnings” (Aries) with a heated fervor.

Too, Aries is associated with war and revolution, and we have witnessed all the unrest, demonstrations, and standoffs in the world the past few weeks. Mars has also been boldly empowering group expression in “power to the people” Aquarius. Also, rebellious Uranus is poised to enter Aries on March 11th for a seven-year stay, so the political landscape could very well continue to change in many nations during this time period. Freedom-loving Uranus in Aries will likely coincide with continued uprisings by individuals on a pioneering, self-developing quest to “do their own thing” (Uranus). Aries is more of a fearless sign, also it’s very impulsive and often acts way too hasty without giving enough thought to the consequences of its actions.

It is interesting, too, that with the opportunistic Jupiter square tyrannical Pluto, almost exact to the dot now, Libya’s long-time despotic ruler (Pluto), Muammar Qaddafi, may finally be ousted in wake of the mass revolt. Sadly, we have also seen many tragic massacres in Libya the last few days as the planets have moved into Pisces, which is more associated with persecution.

Too, it is wise to always note whenever Mars changes zodiacal signs. It is at those times when Mars enters a new sign that we often collectively see very notable or pivotal things occurring with respect to “Mars-ruled” matters: aggression, war, adventurous new beginnings, discoveries or breakthroughs.  Then, of course, we need to add the elements or things associated with the sign that Mars is going through.

Pisces, for example, rules the sea and oil. Oil is spiking upwards due to the unrest in the Middle East. We may all want to keep a very close eye on oil with volatile Mars moving into Pisces. When Chiron entered Pisces last year was the very day we had the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Mars will also be exactly conjunct Chiron on February 24th (the energy is already applying), so this could be a critical time period for the planet.  BTW, it was reported yesterday that BP reached a 7.2 billion dollar oil and gas deal with India on Monday.

Too, as I am writing this, a seemingly big news story is unfolding about the Suez Canal. Reportedly Iranian Naval Vessels have entered the canal. Warrior Mars in Pisces could, unfortunately, symbolize hostile conditions at sea, or around water.

News Update: It was also reported today that the four Americans taken hostage by Somali pirates a few days ago off East Africa were shot and killed today by their captors. (The Americans were first taken hostage with the Mercury-Mars-Neptune triple conjunction a few days ago.)

On a more uplifting note, we also have the Academy Awards on Sunday and Pisces rules films and acting.

Mars in Pisces is indeed a very imaginative placement for the “red planet,” if not the most creative place for it. Mars here often has a deep passion and talent for art, music, dancing, acting, film, photography. For example, Elton John, an Aries, who we mentioned the other day as someone with Mercury in Pisces, also has his Mars in Pisces.

Too, there is usually a greater desire for retreat and seclusion from the world with Mars in Pisces, as a way of recharging our batteries. Mars in retiring Pisces also normally denotes more of an affinity for mystical or spiritual pursuits, and can also give a gift for healing. Many people in the healing field have a notable presence of Pisces planets (or a strong Neptune) in their horoscopes.

Romantically, Mars in Pisces tends to be fantasy-driven and very sensual, so we will definitely want to clear our calendars to make sure that we do have plenty of time for steamy, nocturnal pastimes. 🙂

The shadow side of Mars in Pisces:  There can be indecisiveness, disillusionment, extremism (especially religious fanaticism). Too much of an immersion into fantasy or idealism. Also, Pisces is linked with drug and alcohol abuse. Of course, there is also more opportunity for deception, or simply more chance for weird, nebulous things to happen (due to Mars being in Neptune’s “spacey” home turf). Pisces also rules private sects and cults. Also, there may be more of a willingness to voluntarily play the “victim” or “martyr” role.

Too, with Pisces being more of a “selfless” or “ego-denying” sign, we ideally progress now by doing more for others than for ourselves, especially more for persons who are downtrodden, disabled, or down on their luck for whatever reason. Mars in Pisces can be very compassionate and charitable. We also have the Sun, Mercury, Uranus, and Chiron in Pisces now, so we have a notable Pisces vibration going on. Invisible energy that is hopefully imploring us to remember to kindly give each other a helping hand, or a comforting shoulder to cry on. The Pisces energy perennially sensitizes us to other people’s pain and struggle. We become more acutely aware of the fragility of life and the fleetingness, or even desperateness, of the human condition.

“Compassion is not religious business, it is human business, it is not luxury, it is essential for our own peace and mental stability, it is essential for human survival.” Dalai Lama

“Sweet baby” James is a Pisces. He’s a perfect template for all of the more noble, magical qualities of the sign, isn’t he? Love him.

“I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I’m not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.”  Robert McCloskey

I have read that quote above a few times now and each time I do, I get more thoroughly confused as to the meaning of it, which I’m sure is the intent of it, but I would still like to be able to figure it out. Does the quote make sense to you? What do you think it means?  My natal Mercury is also in slower Taurus, so sometimes it takes me a while for things to fully register upstairs.

Actually, very little around us makes much sense today, as we continue struggling with the nebulous Mars opposition to space cadet Neptune. This aspect is exact at 1:53 pm EDT, but will still linger around for a few more days.

Too, even if something does sound plausible to us today, we still may need to be a little skeptical about the voracity of what we are hearing or seeing, as with Neptune, we never really know for sure what’s going on. Plus, Mars-Neptune can bring out the con-men (and the crazies).

Additionally, it could also be that it is not meant for us to know about certain things and that is why some things are blurred now.

Again, like I said yesterday, Mars-Neptune is a super cool influence for any creative type of work such as painting, songwriting, photography, even dancing as a form of self-expression.

Love-making is also another possible activity that gets the green light here (Mars rules sex, Neptune fantasy), but you may want to make sure your love interest isn’t already married to someone else or otherwise committed ((Neptune can bring big-time deception in romance).

It’s also a good time to catch up on Neptunian prayer and meditation activities, so round up the rosary beads. You additionally have the go ahead for channeling spirits. Not the kind in the bottle, that’s a big no-no now with the addictive Mars-Neptune energy, but the kind of spirits from beyond the grave. Make sure, too, that you tell the Universe ahead of time, that you only want fun-loving, friendly spirits to come through and not any stick-in-the-mud spirits with bad breath and B-O.

I must also tell you something really quick. A few days ago when I was writing my blog here and mentioning channeling deceased family members (I think this was when we had transiting Venus in Cancer opposite Pluto) my laptop kept shutting down during that blog. Gave me a mild case of the jitters.

Moving right along.

Chiron also positions Retrograde today in Pisces and will continue that way until November 5th, moving back to 27 degrees of Aquarius. As I mentioned yesterday, the day Chiron, the Wounded Warrior, entered Pisces (sea, oil) is the very day we had the BP oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. It will be interesting to see what happens when Chiron turns direct and re-enters Pisces again, later on, and whether there will be a possible follow-up connection to that event.

Yesterday, there was reportedly some measure of progress with the oil leak situation, but we still have to wait and see the next couple days or so to how this latest development is actually going to end up panning out.  With Mars-Neptune, who knows what may develop.

Other News:

On Thursday at the White House, President Obama awarded former Beatle, Paul McCartney (born 6/18/42) the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. The Gershwin award is America’s highest award for popular music. McCartney, who is so deserving of this top honor, has been involved with the writing of more than 200 songs on bestselling music charts.

In Paul’s horoscope right now he has transiting Saturn exactly conjunct his 27 degree Neptune in Virgo on his first house of new beginnings.  Neptune rules music and Saturn (Lord of Karma) represents achievement for hard work.  I think it is so very cool that this Saturn-Neptune influence is playing out this way in his chart, with Paul getting this nifty award from the President of the United States on behalf of all the citizenry.

You know, I perennially pick on Neptune and make fun of its spaciness and vagueness, but when it comes to inspiration and creativity, no other planet tops its potential in these areas, and Paul McCartney is a perfect example of this, with Neptune sitting almost exactly on his 25 degree Virgo Ascendant.

The Ascendant degree is the most sensitive point in the whole horoscope and for him to have Neptune there is very cool, in wake of his musical contributions to the planet. The Ascendant is the window in which we look at the world and in Paul’s window, he always has Neptune reclining there right on the ledge.

I have also waged an offensive against the present transiting Mars-Neptune influence because it can be undermining and disillusioning. But, see how neat it can also be for creative stuff like music? Paul gets awarded this prize.

Very sadly, though, another person also born with Neptune on her Ascendant had a very bad day yesterday.  That’s Capricorn Betty White.  I blogged about her horoscope a few weeks ago here when she was on Saturday Night Live. She is a comedic genius in part due to Neptune in her chart.

Anyway, on Thursday, Rue McClanahan, who played Blanche Devereaux on The Golden Girls alongside Betty White, died from a stroke at age 76.

Would you believe Rue also had Neptune conjunct her Ascendant?  It’s true.  She was another example of someone who was creative and talented beyond belief both as an actress and comedian (Neptune rules acting and theater).  Rue (born 2/21/34) was a Neptune-ruled Pisces with a Virgo rising just like Paul McCartney.  Rue will really, really be missed.  I loved her as Blanche, didn’t you?

May your spirit rest in peace, Rue.

Rue’s death, unfortunately, fits in here, too, with the Mars-Neptune transit, as Mars is in Leo, which rules entertainment figures and the opposition to Neptune can indicate a dissolving of ties.  Rue’s tie was severed to the earth plane.

One other very sad headline I saw in the news Thursday that also had a Mars-Neptune theme: A lion fatally wounded a South African woman working at the Chipangali Wildlife Orphanage in Bulawayo, the sanctuary’s first fatality since opening over three decades ago.

Mars rules the aggressive urge and therefore governs assaults and attacks.  Mars is also now in the sign of Leo which is symbolized by “the lion” in the zodiac.  Neptune, as ruler of Pisces, is associated with animal sanctuaries and wildlife retreats.

I spoke yesterday in my blog about how we needed to be careful with aggression issues because with Mars-Neptune there can be misplaced aggression.  I just wonder what may have happened to trigger this lion attack?  It could be the lion falsely perceived a threat with the weird Mars-Neptune energy.  Such a tragedy.

“Soul meets soul on lover’s lips.” Percy Bysshe Shelly

The Moon in Pisces heightens our sensitivity and puts the spotlight on our feelings and compassion. Our romantic fantasies may also turn into reality as relationship Venus sextiles passionate Mars. This is a great influence for meeting new people and also for creative and artistic projects. Both of these influences permeate the weekend.

Venus harmonious to Mars can also help to smooth over tensions in existing relationships while the Pisces Moon adds an extra measure of soothing healing and nurturing.

On a collective level, with Pisces ruling both the sea and oil, the Moon’s entrance here may also magnify our focus on the precarious situation in the Gulf of Mexico.

In the News:

Wall Street suffered its biggest ever intraday drop yesterday falling 998.5 points!  In one ten minute stretch, the Dow slid nearly 700 points.  While it is still unclear what happened here, a trading glitch is suspected.

The Wall Street sell-off also came in the wake of mounting fears of debt defaults in Europe.

Astrologically, we still have Mercury retrograde in the financial sign of Taurus, which would represent the suspected trading irregularity.

Also the last few days, the transiting Sun in Taurus has been making an exact square to volatile Mars.  The Sun-Mars influence, while it only lasts about a week, can have a major impact while it’s in play. Mars often ignites or triggers new events, usually of an unsteady nature.

Mars is the Lord of War and symbolizes the aggressive urge. As a byproduct of this, Mars’s activated ray is often associated with panic, dissension and violence.  Of course, we have seen this playing out in Greece this week.

“Fear tends to manifest itself much more quickly than greed, so volatile markets tend to be on the downside.  In up markets, volatility tends to gradually decline.” Philip Roth

“Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.” Theodore Roosevelt.

Moon enters practical Capricorn (6 am EDT).  We want to feel useful and know that our actions are making a difference.  When we are doing what we love, we naturally feel purposeful. Today, is a good day to channel a passion of ours into a meaningful achievement or activity.

Thought-keeper Mercury is also harmoniously aligned (trine) to secretive Pluto.   We are able to penetrate and tap into life’s deepest mysteries and solve a mystery or two in the process. What alluded us before, is now made crystal clear.

“It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.” Albert Einstein.

We are well-advised to stick with things today. To focus our energies for maximum impact. Make it a day of discovery (Pluto) and purpose (Capricorn).

In the News:

The tragedy of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico continues to unfold.

Checking back to the Exxon Valdez oil spill on March 24, 1989 we find that Saturn and Neptune were both conjunct in Capricorn then. Neptune rules the sea and oil. Saturn represents trials and tribulations. It also speaks to us about the importance of owning up to our duties and responsibilities.

Today, interestingly enough, we have Saturn and Neptune together again.  This time Saturn is in perfecting, refining Virgo exactly quinqunx to Neptune in scientific Aquarius.

Saturn is clearly showing us again that we have not been doing right by the sea and harvesting her precious bounty for our practical use, and we are suffering the consequences as a result. Saturn is always keen to point out to us the folly of our ways.

Saturn also represents the principle of conservation and the wise use of our resources. Maybe this quinqunx influence will usher in wiser stewardship practices (Virgo) and will teach us to better use our technological know-how (Aquarius) to live more judiciously in the future?

Right before Chiron entered Pisces, I blogged that I thought its passage here would be to educate us more fully in our awareness of  our finite oil and water resources.  With this event in the Gulf of Mexico unfolding simultaneously with Chiron’s entrance into Pisces, I am more convinced than ever of this.

It wasn’t the Exxon Valdez captain’s driving that caused the Alaskan oil spill.  It was yours. – Greenpeace advertisement, New York Times, 25 February 1990.

The nation’s first offshore wind farm project, off the coast of Cape Cod, got the go ahead Wednesday (Scorpio Full Moon Day) after nine years of regulatory review. U.S. Secretary of the Interior Kenneth Salazar approved the highly contested “Cape Wind” project saying it ushered in an era of clean energy in the U.S.

The project’s developer, Cape Wind Associates, says it plans to build 130 turbines about five miles off the Cape Cod coast by the end of the year.  The $1 billion project, which will cover 24 square miles, is expected to be challenged legally by those parties opposed to the construction.

Generally, a wind farm is viewed as a way to move away from our dependence on fossil fuels for electricity.

However, local Cape Cod residents have opposed this particular project citing, among other things, that it would interfere with tourism and boating and obstruct coastal views.

Uranus rules technological and scientific advancements and it is presently in the sign of Pisces which rules both the sea and oil.  So, the offshore wind farm would be depicted by Uranus in Pisces.

Saturn in Virgo would be representative of the residents who want to preserve the pristine (Virgo) coast as it is.

With Saturn opposite Uranus we always have a tug of war between the old (Saturn) and the new (Uranus).  Oppositions denote turning points.

Of course, we have Saturn, Pluto, and Mercury retrograde, so who knows if this project will even get off the ground as slated.  There will likely be reversals, delays. Nevertheless, it is interesting to see the Saturn opposite Uranus aspect playing out in real life, isn’t it?
