“Reality is merely an illusion, although a very persistent one.” Albert Einstein

Reduced visibility in my Crystal Ball today due to a foggy Mars-Neptune aspect that is, slowly but surely, closing in around us. This weird, intoxicating influence will technically be exact tomorrow, but already we are feeling its spacey affects.  The Moon in Aquarius also conjoins Neptune mid-morning (10:56 am EDT) and then enters Neptune-ruled Pisces early afternoon (at 1:34 pm EDT).

Mars fuels our passions, while Neptune drives our addictions and rules the urge to escape.  You get these two together and we have a lot of energy to run away to la la land. We also have to be careful with drugs and alcohol.

It’s tangibly harder for us to see things clearly now with Neptune’s veil of illusion engulfing us. We are also much less focused. It’s probably best for us to just chill out and try putting off working on important stuff, if we can.

This Mars-Neptune energy is super, however, for any creative projects that we might need to do, especially involving music or art, as Neptune rules imagination and Mars can get it all fired up.

Mars also rules sex, and with Neptune ruling fantasy and the Moon entering romantic Pisces, it might be a perfect day to call in sick.

In the News:

The oil from the BP oil leak is nearing the Florida beaches, as Mars aggressively opposes insidious Neptune, which rules both the sea and oil. Mars symbolically officiates over assaults and here we have a sea-related assault on the beaches beginning to play out, in addition to all the other mayhem and tragedy that has already occurred with regard to this matter.

We also had that unfortunate incident yesterday in which the saw (ruled by Mars) apparently got stuck in the pipe in the latest BP efforts to cap the oil. Mars rules accidents and mishaps such as that.

CNN is also showing Neptunian photos today (Neptune rules images and photography) of the “Aquarian robots” working a mile underwater in the Gulf trying to stop the leak, and we have Neptune, the sea, in technological Aquarius.

Chiron, the Wounded Warrior in Pisces, turns Retrograde on Friday and Mars is also applying to an opposition to Chiron that will be exact on June 8th and 9th. I wonder if the retrograde Chiron motion will have an impact on the current situation in the Gulf?  The day the BP oil leak occurred is the very day that Chiron entered Pisces. I had blogged here, the day before Chiron entered that sign, that I thought Chiron’s ingress into Pisces may have impact on sea and water issues, but I had no idea that it would happen so quickly.  Sometimes things do occur the very day a body switches signs.  Of course, Chiron’s entering Pisces did not “cause” the spill, but as astrologers we learn to “connect the dots.”

Chiron in Pisces may also end up being a big wake-up call for us, in terms of finally forcing us to move beyond our dependency on oil and pursue alternate energy sources.

Another “weird” story in the news that would fall under the “unreal quality” of the Mars-Neptune umbrella is Joran van der Sloot, the suspect in Natalie Holloway’s disappearance in Aruba (by the Neptune sea) exactly five years ago, is now the focus of an international manhunt after being suspected of killing a woman in Peru this past weekend.  “Mars-Neptune” energy always has the potential for darker elements to it, as Mars rules violence and Neptune rules sacrifice and all things hidden.  Mars-Neptune energy is often characterized as “misplaced aggression” or “hidden aggression.”  Neptune’s ray can be very deceptive and nefarious.  We do probably need to watch our tempers today to make sure that we are not acting out inappropriately.

Update: CNN is reporting that an Irish aid ship is heading for Gaza.  Israel warns of attack if the ship fails to stop.  Yet another manifestation of the volatile “Mars-Neptune” energy playing out on the high seas.

Update: NYT is reporting that the oil pipe has been cut this morning, reportedly a key step in halting the leak.  Engineers can try now to place a cap to catch the leaking oil. Hopefully, this is a positive manifestation of the Mars opposition Neptune “sea energy” and the technologically savvy Aquarian Moon conjunct Neptune.

Opposition aspects can bring matters to a climax, with Mars again signifying the “cutting action” of the pipe and Neptune representing both the sea and the oil pipe.

We have had so many things fail in this endeavor to date that it’s hard to believe that something good could finally be happening here, but maybe something is with this mystifying and hard to see through Mars-Neptune energy, since it is so sea-related and Mars rules new action, and Chiron is getting ready to retrograde tomorrow in Pisces.

Could it also be someone is looking out for us here – maybe a higher Neptunian power?  Neptune is our link to the Divine and Mars is activating that link now. Just a thought.  Also, a hope.

June 3rd Birthdays: Anderson Cooper and Tony Curtis.

Enjoy your Thursday. Make some “beautiful music” with Neptune, or maybe meditate, tap into its higher, more freeing expression.

“What does mysticism really mean?  It means the way to attain knowledge.  It’s close to philosophy, except in philosophy you go horizontally while in mysticism you go vertically.” Elie Wiesel

Neptune, the mystical planet that is associated with meditation, psychic development, and higher consciousness, turns retrograde today and stays that way till November 6th.

Neptune often communicates with us in the still of night through our dreams.  We may want to pay closer attention to our dreams now and see what kind of symbolic information we are receiving there.

I think many of us are often confused or scared by Neptune because of its more nebulous nature and its more idealistic impulses.  It often has us believing in fairy tales and in things that simply do not make sense to our logical, left-brain way of thinking.

Neptune, however, can be very cool and inspirational. Under it’s ray we are usually much more creative and imaginative, as well as psychic and spiritual. Neptune is an entirely right-brain experience but we usually need to use the left side of our brain in decoding or figuring out Neptune’s messages.

I am wondering, too, if Neptune’s retrograde motion will have any impact on the oil spill in the Gulf Coast, as Neptune rules both the sea and oil? It seems that it would. I am also hoping that Saturn’s resumption of direct motion will maybe help out here in the form of a workable solution to what has now become the worst oil spill in U.S. history.

The Moon, meanwhile, continues along her course in practical Capricorn, definitely a grounding energy and antidote to the spacier retrograde Neptune. I don’t know about you, but ever since the Moon entered purposeful Capricorn Saturday afternoon, I have gotten a lot of stuff accomplished that I needed to get done.

Too, with Saturn stationing direct, I believe it is a good time for all of us to get more focused and organized.

“I never see what has been done; I only see what remains to be done.” Marie Curie

Events on history on this date:

On May 31, 2005 Watergate figure “Deep Throat” is revealed to be W. Mark Felt a former FBI agent.  In the stars that day, the transiting Sun was in the news and communication sign of Gemini exactly square to erratic Uranus in Pisces.

Uranus is associated with breakthrough discoveries as well as sudden twists and turns.  Pisces also governs illusion and deception. The  electrifying Sun-Uranus energy was, therefore, a fitting backdrop to crack this mystery.

Also assisting here, transiting Mars in Pisces was one degree from an exact square to Pluto in Sagittarius.  Mars busts people and solves crimes, while Pluto oversees spies and espionage and the divulging of secrets.

Enjoy your Memorial Day. Pray for our soldiers and their families.

“There is only one success – to be able to spend your life in your own way.” Christopher Morley

Cool day in the cosmos!

Saturn, which has been retrograde since January 13, stations direct today and will gradually start moving forward again. Saturn denotes hard work, responsibility, and all the corresponding structure that we erect in our lives as a result of our various sustained efforts.

Saturn’s forward momentum signals that we now have the green light to move ahead with our goals and dreams.  We may also start seeing some of our previous labors beginning to pay off for us. Saturn likes to reward us for our due diligence and simple day-to-day nose to the grindstone activities.

I thought the Christopher Morley quote for today was also very timely here because so often in life we choose to define our personal success in terms of other people’s definition of success for us. In the process, we tend to lose sight of what is in our heart.

Today, on this Saturn-themed day and also with the Moon in Capricorn, the sign that Saturn rules, it’s a good time to perform a “Saturn reality check and tune-up” and have an authentic dialogue with ourselves to make sure that we are indeed proceeding in the right direction in terms of advancing our soul’s sacred purpose.

If we are not, we should ask ourselves, why not?  What in the heck are we waiting for, more ideal conditions to manifest? We could spend the rest of our lives waiting for that to happen and in the mean time, life is passing us by.  Better to start from the point where we are at and then begin creating the circumstances that we want to see in our lives, don’t you think? Saturn stationing direct here, too, can greatly help to provide us with wisdom from our past experience, as we are capable of seeing things more clearly now and connecting the dots.

In sports:

The Phillies’ Roy Halladay pitched a perfect game yesterday!

When I heard about this, I immediately thought about Uranus, the “genius” planet, and its fresh ingress into Aries, the sign of sports and baseball. Could there be a connection?

Celebrity news:

“Screen rebel” Dennis Hopper died yesterday at the age of 74 after a prolonged illness. I personally will always remember him as the motorcycle riding, pot-smoking character in Easy Rider.  Hopper, however, had a bevy of gifts.  He was not only an actor and director, he was also an accomplished photographer, painter and sculptor.

Dennis Hopper was born 5/17/36.  He fittingly had imaginative Neptune at the very top of his chart near his career house.  Neptune rules all the creative areas that he ended up pursuing with respect to his career. His Taurus Sun also added to his artistic instincts and abilities. When I think of Taurus, too, I think of the great painter Pablo Picasso, who had in his horoscope, four planets conjunct in the sign of Taurus in his career house. Taurus is associated with things of beauty.

Hopper also had rebel Uranus in Taurus in his fifth house of self-expression.  Perhaps that is why he naturally resonated to a more defiant theme. Pioneering and aggressive Mars was also conjunct his Sun reinforcing this same bent and making him adventurous and impulsive as well.

Interestingly, Dennis Hopper’s horoscope is similar to Elvis Presley’s (a Capricorn) horoscope.  Elvis had Neptune at the top of his chart and Uranus in Aries exactly conjunct his fifth house of self-expression. Elvis, of course, revolutionized the music and entertainment industry, especially with his original and defiant onstage performances that were also very sexual (Aries) in nature. Neptune also rules music.

Both Dennis and Elvis additionally had Sagittarius Ascendants, making them very freedom-loving and also accentuating their Uranian need for spontaneous expression.

Neptune, which has to do with drugs, also stressfully squared each of their Ascendants (the Ascendant rules the body). Both had serious issues with drugs, using drugs as a form of escape or coping mechanism. Elvis actually died when the transiting Neptune was exactly conjunct his Ascendant. Drugs were implicated in his death and no doubt hastened his demise.

I am always looking for symbolic connections among the stars and events on earth, as I do feel we are all linked as one.  I did think it was very symbolic that Dennis Hopper died just as Rebellion Guru, Uranus, entered Aries, the sign of new beginnings, as he  personified so much the “do your own thing” Uranus in Aries spirit.

Too, while his life was never an easy ride, he seemed to have really lived an authentic life, one that was true to his soul’s purpose.  So, in that respect, he died a great success, don’t you think?

May you rest in peace, Dennis Hopper.

Enjoy your Sunday. Follow your heart. Live your dream.

“The man who smiles when things go wrong has thought of someone to blame it on.” – Robert Bloch

Fortunately for all of us, I see in my comforting Crystal Ball that we have a bevy of heavenly bodies we can assign blame to today, as a twisted configuration of energies prepares to invade our beings.

The Moon begins her day at the end of happy-go-lucky Sagittarius. This puts all of us in a fairly optimistic mood.

Then as the Moon forms a tight square to stinky poo Saturn in the intestinal sign of Virgo (10:38 am EDT), I see someone very close to us, perhaps a family member, developing sustained bouts of flatulence.

We become understandably outraged and depressed by this turn of events, especially when we realize that we are fresh out of room deodorizer.

Cussing to ourselves, we proceed to walk around the house opening up all the windows and turning on all the fans.

Luckily, a miraculous sextile to Neptune (at 12:17 pm EDT), the planet that officially presides over gas and fumes, helps to successfully disperse the offending odor and restore some semblance of blissful harmony to our household.

The rest of the day is so-so, pretty uneventful.

The Moon’s square to overweight Jupiter in escapist Pisces (12:40 pm EDT) inclines us to eat everything in sight and wash it all down with lots of beer. This could give us even more gas later, but we choose not to concern ourselves with this health issue at the moment. We prefer to wallow in Piscean denial.

Then the Moon’s entrance into budget-minded Capricorn (2:44 pm EDT) immediately provokes some measure of dissension from loose canon Uranus in Aries (at 2:50 pm EDT).

It seems Uranus doesn’t like being burdened by practical matters and cannot wrap his arms around why he should have to go out and get a job like the rest of us, so as to be able to add to the household income, when he has a such a natural talent and bent for rebellion and shaking things up.

We finally close out this glorious day with the Moon cuddled up with mysterious, passionate Pluto (11:49 pm EDT).  No telling what kind of night moves the two of them might choreograph together, as they “position themselves” for power. Suffice it to say, there will probably be a fair amount of twisting and shouting going on under the sheets.

Enjoy your Saturday. Remember to put room deodorizer at the top of your grocery list.

“I see my path, but I don’t know where it leads.  Not knowing where I’m going is what inspires me to travel it.” Rosalia de Castro

The Moon in Sagittarius resonates to the inner explorer in each of us today. And, with Uranus now crossed over into the new frontiers territory of Aries, new desires are beckoning us.  Old dreams are rekindled.

We are not quite sure where we are headed or where we may end up.  All we know is the journey has begun.

Some of us, too, may be scared by the prospect of not knowing exactly where our path may be leading us.

However, we must know and remember that in order to truly grow and flourish with respect to our own truth, and to ultimately endure, we have to be willing to venture outside of our comfort zone, even if we only take the proverbial “baby steps” in the beginning.

And, we are not alone.  Uranus in Aries will be taking each of us by the hand and paternally guiding us along the way, whispering in our ear about new possibilities.

Of course, too, in more short-fused Aries, cantankerous Uranus’s soft whisper may turn into a thunderous shout, if we do not heed his revelations for our lives.

In current news:

The U.S. House voted Thursday to let the Defense Department repeal the ban on gay and bisexual people from serving in the military, a huge step toward ending the 1993 ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ law.

This vote came with liberator Uranus, the planet associated with gay rights and social equality issues, at the tale end of Pisces.  Pisces is a compassionate sign that is often associated with civil rights and watching over the downtrodden.

I thought the timing of this matter was rather symbolic, indicating that while equality here on this matter has been a long struggle, at the end of the day, we can finally know and trust that it is possible to indeed change the status quo, if only we keep fighting for what we believe in.

Aries also rules war and the military. With Uranus in Aries, we will now likely see the dawning of a new day whereby gays and bisexuals can proudly defend the U.S. without fear of reprisal.

What a spectacular new beginning for our country, and for the world, and what a glorious way to mark Uranus’s grand entrance into Aries.

What, of course, would be even far more glorious would be no reason for America, or for any country, to ever have to go to war again. But, will that day ever come? We’ve got to believe that it will.

Enjoy your Friday. Be the change you are seeking.

“Live your beliefs and you can turn the world around.” Henry David Thoreau

My crystal ball is showing a big day ahead!

I see invigorating, fiery energy descending upon us, beginning with the Moon’s glide into philosophical, inquiring Sagittarius (at 7:16 am EDT).  This ingress positions us for a Full Moon adventure here later in the day (at 7:08 pm EDT).

With the Full Moon in archer Sagittarius, we focus our attention on our beliefs and convictions.  This is an ideal time to ask ourselves what it is that we really believe in and stand for. Do we even know?

Also, how are we faring in terms of our ability to freely express our beliefs and views in the world? Are we able to confidently share with others our opinions or viewpoints, or do we instead retreat from doing so out of fear of rejection or ridicule?

Living authentically from our own point of truth is the greatest gift that we can give to both ourselves and the world.  That is why I love the Thoreau quote above. When we live our beliefs,  that is how we are able to turn our world around.

And, the world around us will begin to change in bold and daring ways with the entrance of liberating, revolutionizing Uranus into pioneering Aries, the first sign of the zodiac (at 9:50 pm EDT).

Aries depicts new beginnings, particularly new personal beginnings.  Aries is also the sign of our self-image. Uranus’s movement into Aries gives us a chance to free up how we think and feel about ourselves.

That freeing up, as we all know, can be a lengthy process.  That is why Uranus will be in Aries for 7 years (although it will retrograde back into Pisces later this summer for a while before it firmly establishes here early 2011). Enough time for a full revolution, don’t you think?

Enjoy your day! Be proud of who you are. You’re beautiful and unique.

“All great and beautiful work has come of first gazing without shrinking into the darkness.” John Ruskin

It’s Day Two of the pitch-black Scorpio Moon, which is even darker this time around because some fool forgot to pay the light bill yesterday.

The inquisitive, cell-phone addicted Gemini Sun is also still boxed into that weird quinqunx relationship with enigmatic Pluto, Scorpio’s lighthearted, cheery ruler, who will not return any of the Sun’s phone calls or text messages, yet he has time to secretly peer into the Sun’s windows at night.

The images I am seeing by way of flashlight in my all-knowing, dusty-all-over Crystal Ball:

“We are deep down in the earth, navigating through a narrow maze of tunnels.

Due to the lack of artificial lighting, we keep cursing and bumping into each other and stepping on each others toes.

When we look down at our feet, we also notice that our socks do not match, even though technically it is too dark to actually see our feet. Regardless of this incidental fact, we are horrified that our socks don’t match.

We fervently pray to God that nobody will notice because if they do, it surely will be curtains for us. And that tragically will mean no more filling our days with shopping at Walmart.

Anyway, this same tiring scenario plays out all day long.  The embarrassment from our mismatched socks reaches epidemic proportions.

Then suddenly before us, we stumble upon an elevator.  It is operational because a rich Capricorn with Republican connections finally got the electricity powered back on for us.

I see us all piling into this elevator, and even though we exceed the weight limit because we have too many chubby but cute Cancerians on board, the smelly, sweat-filled elevator slowly but surely makes its ascent.

Rumor has it, but this has not been confirmed, that Uranus is going to be there to greet us when we finally get to the top, although I am unable to see his image at the moment. We also know how unpredictable and erratic Uranus can be.

But, needless to say, I see that we are all very hopeful that he will decide to grace us with his thundering presence.

In the meantime, too, now that we are somewhat more relaxed and needing a diversion to fill time in the elevator, the adult-themed Scorpio Moon beams in for us the sounds of Bob Seeger’s Night Moves, at which point I am no longer privy to any more images in my Crystal Ball, as I prefer and have the more wholesome, G-rated version. The X-rated Crystal Ball just fogs up too much for my taste.

Enjoy your Wednesday! Be sure to check your socks before leaving the house.

I grew up watching “Leave It To Beaver” and idealizing the Cleaver’s and their “perfect family home life.”  While my childhood was a far cry from the Cleaver’s, I do remember having playmates whose homes I would periodically visit and their lives seemed to me to be perfect comparisons to this fictionalized TV family.  I was always rather envious.

The energy that we have around us now, with relationship Venus in Cancer opposite Pluto in Capricorn, fits like a glove for examining and revisiting our familial roots, especially perhaps the early relationship that we had with our parents. This is because Cancer represents mother and the home and family, while Capricorn rules authority figures and traditionally denotes father.

Pluto also symbolizes the subconscious and those emotions and feelings that we have buried deep inside ourselves. The opposition aspect to Venus  is affording us a “full opportunity for awareness” into some of our relationship issues from our past, especially those of a more familial (Cancer) nature.

It may also be an ideal time for connecting with the memories of our family members who have transitioned to the other side, as Pluto rules death and rebirth. Some may even want to do some channeling into the spirit world to formally reconnect now.

I also have another take about the significance of this same Venus-Pluto energy now. Venus rules physical beauty and the Moon today is in Venus-ruled Libra, heightening our aesthetic sensibilities.

I think that it may be a cool day to “get real” (Pluto) about how we feel about ourselves, in terms of our physical beauty. We may want to, especially us ladies, look in the mirror and take a good look at the face before us.  Do we like what we see reflecting back to us?

I know it’s probably shallow, but I like myself better and feel better about myself when I’m wearing make-up, a form of Neptunian disguise.  Today may be a good day to experiment with make-up and maybe come up with a whole new look for ourselves, as Pluto can bring about transformation.

Switching now to the matter of the transiting Jupiter opposite Saturn, as I’ve got to run and I know you do, too. While that aspect was exact yesterday, it is still hovering around us for several days – and IT’S BIG.

I have been doing further meditation on this influence and I really think that it is very good that we have this energy now to tap into, as  Saturn is very grounding.  It’s a perfect antidote to erratic Uranus getting ready to enter fireball Aries.

With Jupiter-Saturn now, we are receiving crystal clear insight into how we need to practically proceed further with our dreams (Jupiter).  We also are suddenly discovering things (dreams) that no longer work for us, for one reason or the other, and that discovery can be very liberating for us, as we know now where to put our energies.

Too, some of the dreams that we may need to walk away from now, we may be able to revisit and rekindle them later.  So, we should not despair.  But, we should know clearly now what is the best road for us to take at the present moment due to this sobering, but enlightening Jupiter-Saturn influence.

Regarding the collective, I also believe this same Jupiter-Saturn aspect is going to end up somehow being very good for understanding fully the ramifications of the Gulf oil leak (Jupiter in Pisces) and how to more effectively deal with it in the future, as far as crafting solutions (Saturn) to this crisis.

Also, I think innovative Uranus at the end of Pisces (sea, oil) is going to be of further help here in achieving this end.  Let’s hope so, anyway.  It’s a very dire, tragic situation.

Enjoy your Monday. Seal the day with a warm memory from your past.

“Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance, order, rhythm and harmony.”  Thomas Merton

I do believe a happy, fulfilled life is largely a matter of finding the right balance in the things that we do. Don’t you agree? It takes a lot of time, though, to discover that balance.

I think what often helps out in expediting things here is to have something at the center of our lives that is very meaningful, as that can serve to both anchor and inspire us, even when the waters get choppy and the Scorpio sharks are closing in around us.

Another thing that can help to steady us is having a nifty crystal ball nearby. Let me quickly retrieve mine from the broom closet.  I put it there yesterday while straightening up under the tidy Virgo Moon.  Took a piece of my own advice for a change.

Madame Patrice’s fortune-telling revealed here now for Sunday, May 23, 2010:

“Today we come face to face with Saturn – boy oh boy, I can hardly wait – and get to preview our limitations, which you know the old guy is dying to show us.

Did you know that Saturn has chronicled and saved every last one of our limitations since the time of our birth, and beyond?  This is true.  That means that each of us could be here literally for eons with taskmaster Saturn, depending on how thick his documented limitation file is on us.

I also would like to know, where the heck Neptune is, that Great Dissolver, when you really need him?  He could be of such practical assistance to us today in dissolving some of the dirty goods that Saturn has on us.

Neptune, as you may know, has those dreamy, mystical powers, not to mention a pipeline to the Divine to wash away our sins and transgressions. But, as usual, he pulls his famous disappearing act and is nowhere to be found.

Neptune has, however, sent his underling Jupiter to intervene on his behalf.

So, while Saturn would like us to wallow endlessly in our litany of self-imposed limitations today, the wrinkled life force is going to have to cut it short and nip it. For  Jupiter is on his way to rescue us with a bevy of our hopes and wishes and cherry cheesecake to boot.

Yes, kind folks, Saturn and Jupiter are sitting opposite each other at the cosmic dinner table today, lovingly glaring at one another.  They are the honored guests in each of our houses and we need to treat each of them courteously and with respect.  We don’t want any etiquette faux pas taking place if we can help it. That would be utterly tragic.

Of course, Saturn is wanting us to be thrifty and parsimonious and serve him up a no-frills, “less is more” meal comprised only of the basics needed for his daily survival.

Jupiter, on the other hand, is hoping to persuade us to present him with a full, caloric-rich, nine-course meal.

What we need to do here, to keep both of these dinner guests happy, is somehow fashion a menu that will give each of them some of what they want. That way, we will hopefully make both of them satisfied enough so they don’t swear and cuss or throw food at each other at the dinner table.

One other issue today.

We also have the matter of Venus opposing Pluto to immediately deal with. They also are wanting a spot at the dinner table.

Venus is such a lovable, shopaholic creature.  She perennially justs wants to mingle and throw cool house parties, especially now that she is in the Moon’s warm, nesting sign of Cancer.

Of course, control freak Pluto hates to see Venus having a good time unless it’s centered around him.

So, what to do. Should we let this happy couple come join us today at the dinner table? Are we up to dealing with their drama? The Moon is in social, diplomatic Libra, making us feel politely obligated, don’t you think?

Patricia Thompson’s Astrology May 22, 2010: Simon Cowell

“My second favorite household chore is ironing.  My first being hitting my head on the top bunk bed until I faint.” Erma Bombeck.

It’s day two of the Moon in Virgo (until 10:50 pm EDT).  What could that portend for us? What do I see taking shape in the crystal ball?  Hmm.

How about a bucket and a mop! After all, it is a Saturday. And, the Virgo Moon is a nut about cleanliness – I’m even cleaning the keyboard as I write this.

Plus we have Venus now deposited in Cancer, signifying a love of the home, and nobody wants a dirty home, especially when the Moon is in tidy Virgo.

Voila. So that’s it!  Our karma question has been readily solved for today.

Yes, the more I think about it, it is our destiny now to be submerged in all manner of cleaning. Virgo is also talented at organizing, so we can line up all of our cleaning supplies and related paraphernalia in a most adroit manner before we even get started.

I also realize, too, that many of us are probably feeling a great deal of moral and spiritual angst today, with the Jupiter (expansion) opposition to Saturn (contraction) almost exact.  But, we’ll talk more about the full meaning of that weighty influence tomorrow, when it will indeed be exact (1:38 am EDT).

Too, Saturn is also in Virgo so why not try to make that cranky old planet a tad happier by removing that annoying ring around the kitchen sink and giving him less competition.

Celebrity News:

Oprah did a “farewell interview” with Simon Cowell on Thursday. Fittingly, Simon’s horoscope (born 10/7/59) was echoing that same “parting sentiment” that day.  He had the transiting Venus exactly opposite his natal Saturn, a classic aspect of separation that also hints at a little bit of sadness.

Venus represents what we love and value.  It shows what we are attached to in the guise of our relationships. It also signifies our creative attachments and things of beauty that we have perhaps given birth to, such as exquisite works of art, paintings.

Saturn meanwhile represents those “safe structures” that we have painstakingly erected in the world as a result of going to work every day and responsibly doing our job.  Saturn showcases to all our composite of talents and skills that we have so keenly honed over time that consequently allows us to eke out a living on the planet.

Indeed, Saturn symbolizes the world that we have diligently assembled for ourselves.  It’s like our little empire. A few people, like Simon, as well as Oprah, are able to manifest gigantic Saturnian empires that have the net affect of allowing them to wield an inordinate amount of “earthly power” and “status.”

Saturn can also signify poignant endings, however, or a letting go of those self-made trappings, especially when paired with relationship Venus, Goddess of Love.

So, on Thursday, with transiting Venus in vulnerable Cancer, the zodiacal sign of the womb, opposite Simon’s Saturn in the professional sign of Capricorn, Simon was saying “goodbye” to a part of the world (Saturn) that he had so creatively crafted (Venus) and birthed, and that had afforded him a notable amount of material riches and worldly success.

He was also saying goodbye, in many ways, to the extension of corresponding relationships that he had forged with the fans who were part of that reality (Saturn) that he had manifested on American Idol, hence there was a palpable tone of sadness in the air during the interview and Simon’s demeanor was also more serious. The “opposition aspect” is an aspect depicting a full culmination of awareness regarding what one has previously set into motion.

For the last few days, Simon has also had in his horoscope, transiting Mercury, denoting thoughts and communication, exactly trine his natal Pluto, the gatekeeper of all of our secrets. Pluto represents the subconscious and all that is hidden from view.  It symbolically depicts what we have buried inside us at the deepest level of our beings.

With Mercury aligned with Pluto, we often get in touch with those hidden elements inside ourselves that we may have previously kept submerged or maybe didn’t even consciously know existed.  Mercury-Pluto is associated with psychotherapy and arriving at a new awareness of the nature of things as a result of unearthing hidden feelings and emotions.

With this aspect, we are also more willing to articulate and share our secrets. During the interview with Oprah, for example, Simon mentioned that he suffers from depression and said that he can be very difficult to be around because of his moods. He also mentioned that he has felt under pressure because so many people depend on him.

I have previously written about Simon Cowell’s horoscope on my blog here, and am not going to go into much detail again about it, except to say that one of the most notable aspects in Simon’s chart is his Venus and Pluto conjoined in workaholic Virgo, the sign of service.

Venus, as I mentioned earlier, denotes what we love and in the sign of Virgo, it shows that we are inclined to be “married to our work.”  Simon even told Oprah that his work has been sort of a girlfriend for him. Pluto also speaks to our need for power and persons with this aspect can be very obsessive and controlling in going about obtaining  that power in the workplace.

Venus-Pluto is often the signature of someone who can be completely consumed by their work to the point of obsession (Pluto). It is very hard for these persons to let go and delegate and also harder for them to relax physically, as Virgo is a more nervous sign physiologically.

Virgo is also all about perfection with an insatiable desire to serve and please and when natives of this sign feel that they are not delivering here, they can feel boatloads of guilt. Simon also addressed this very same guilt issue.

What is very positive now for Simon is that he has transiting Pluto, which often acts as a transforming agent in our lives, exactly trine to his natal Venus-Pluto configuration. This more harmonious trine influence is allowing him to broaden out his scope of pleasurable things (Venus) in his life, beyond the confines of the work sphere (Virgo), to the formation of a very significant personal relationship with someone he apparently plans on marrying.  As I wrote about earlier when I did his horoscope, transiting Pluto to Venus can bring in a soul mate and it does sound like Simon feels that way about the current female presence in his life, at least that is what I gathered from hearing him talking to Oprah.

It could be, too, that Simon’s professional work, in the next couple years, perhaps his involvement with the new American X-Factor, or maybe something else that he is working on, is also going to propel him to even bigger and newer heights on the world stage.

Mick Jagger, incidentally, wrote the lyrics to Satisfaction when Pluto was exactly conjoined his Venus, which is also in the same sign as Simon’s (Virgo).  Satisfaction in a left-handed way is a “soul mate” for Mick and the Stones in that it is their trademark piece of work that most identifies them. Maybe Simon has something else inside him, as well, that he will be birthing soon, that will also impart some kind of fresh trademark status for him beyond his many achievements already.  We’ll just have to wait and see and wish him the best. I know I will personally miss him on Idol, the show will not be the same, but I am looking forward to watching Simon on the X-Factor.

Enjoy your Saturday! Tidy up your nest today with that Virgo Moon. You know, she doesn’t want to see one speck of dust lurking around anywhere.
