COSMIC WEATHER:

A lot on the “Cosmic Plate” again today:

One “biggie” is Aggressor Mars in Penetrating Scorpio square to Evasive Neptune in Mr. Sandman Pisces.

Mars-Neptune can denote “passive-aggressiveness” and “misplaced aggression.” Mars rules the will and aggressive urge. Neptune rules the urge to escape.  Mix them together, and on the shadow side, the resulting cocktail can be pretty lethal to drink. Nobody wants to be held accountable for anything. Part of the reason is that there may be a feeling that we are “in over our head.” Mars-Neptune tends to produce feelings of “irrational fear,” “paranoia,” and generalized “vague discomfort.”

Neptune also represents lies and deceit, and with Mars involved in the equation, clandestinely stoking Neptune’s “less than truthful” ray, it’s a prime time to be on our guard, lest we get hoodwinked or swindled.

Neptune additionally rules art and paintings, while Mars can denote thieves and the “criminal element.”  Neptune, too, rules “con men.” It seems that we often hear about break-ins at art galleries with this type of energy. As a precautionary measure: We may want to lock up our valuable “paint by number” masterpieces, that are randomly scattered about on the home front. Lest they appear later on the black market, only to be snatched up by some eccentric millionaire for his private collection.

Mars additionally rules another biggie: Sex! And Mars is presently in Passionate Scorpio (a sign it co-rules with Pluto). Mars merged with fantasy Neptune could mean that the bedtime hours could prove very interesting tonight!

Too, Neptune rules costumes and all manner of disguise (the plot thickens). We may want to keep this in mind when we’re getting ready to put on our pj’s. It could be we may want to slip into our Halloween attire a few days early.  See if that procures for us a few more treats between the sheets! 🙂

We may even want to masquerade as a “double agent,” since we also have Mental Mercury in “From Beyond the Grave” Scorpio sextiling Grand Master Spy Pluto, a prime time for figuring out big life and death mysteries and for also hearing about scary, macabre secrets, including “how to surreptitiously vacuum” without invoking the wrath of ghosts from Halloweens past.

Last, but not least, we have a “Magical” Blue Moon tonight at 29 degrees of Aries (9:38 pm EDT). A “blue moon” is when we have two full moons in one month. The second one is called a “Blue Moon.” There is also something “urgent” about this Moon occurring as it does at the anaretic point (last degree) of Aries.

Full Moons bring “awareness” and represent a “culmination point.” Aries is about identity and self-expression, and proving ourselves through action. Ironically, Aries’ ruler, Mars, is in Deep Dark Scorpio, in that captive, “held hostage” position with Neptune, in which its effectiveness is watered down and murkier to chart. It could be that what is illumined now is all the scary and hidden Scorpio stuff, the foreboding skeletons, that we carry around inside ourselves, as Scorpio rules the subterranean regions of our beings. Plus we also have Creepy, Crawly Spy Agent Pluto in that adult sextile relationship with Twenty something Mercury.

Who really knows, though, what this cosmic puzzle definitively means? Maybe that’s another reason why the Moon is so blue tonight. She’s clueless, too.

Activities recommended today: Attending “masquerade balls,” spying under the sheets, vacuuming in the pitch black, watching rats exiting sinking ships, visiting bats in the belfry, bottling up our aggression and trying to sell it on Ebay for big bucks, flying close to the Blue Moon on broomsticks, befriending witches and wizards, discussing the theory of relativity with revered jack-o-lanterns, polka dancing in the moonlight to Lawrence Welk music, songwriting, singing in the shower, reading and writing poetry, being extra kind to bartenders and fishes.

Quote for today:

“Everything is perfect in the universe – even your desire to improve it.” Wayne Dyer

Notable Birthdays:

Deepak Chopra turns 64 today. Deepak has a Mystical, Sensitive Pisces Rising, with a Peace-Loving Libra Sun, and an Analytical, Health-minded Virgo Moon. His Sun, denoting his “sense of self,” is conjunct Expansive, Philosophical Jupiter in Probing Scorpio.

The Sun-Jupiter conjunction is a classic signature of a “teacher,” and also of a “writer.” Sun-Jupiter tends to be optimistic in nature, perennially believing the glass is half full. Jupiter also rules religion and Sun-Jupiter natives often naturally have a “preacher-type” manner about them, in that they usually feel called upon to help others “broaden their horizons.” Deepak also has Jupiter-ruled Sagittarius on his tenth house of career, suggesting a “Jupiter” (teacher-preacher-public speaking -writer) career. His Jupiter in Scorpio also points to involvement with the healing profession, and he started out as an endocrinologist before shifting his focus to alternative medicine.

The Sun and Jupiter are both in the 8th house in Deepak’s chart, along with a tight Mercury and Mars conjunction in Penetrating Scorpio, which is excellent for detecting and ferreting out information. A packed 8th house can give a shrewdness and focus on wanting to solve life’s deepest riddles and mysteries, as this house is associated with the subconscious, transformation, and experiences beyond the earth plane. Mercury conjunct Mars in Scorpio also indicates a mind that is very resourceful, as well as very private and secretive.

The 8th house is also the house of other people’s resources, and there can be special flair for helping others “to heal” and or helping others to manage their resources better, both materially and spiritually. Psychologists and psychiatrists, for instance, will often have planets here. Also, financial planners.  This house is also associated with surgery and medicine. Many surgeons will have a strong eighth house. Surgeons remove or reconfigure our physical bodies so that they may function better and or regenerate.

Deepak’s Venus, showing what he loves, is in Scholarly Sagittarius conjunct his ninth house of higher education and travel. Again, this placement underscores his passion for teaching and inspiring others, and he would also perhaps be attracted to females who are also educators or writers.  Idealistic Neptune in his seventh house of relationships can also make him want to always see the “best in others.”

A powerful Saturn-Pluto conjunction in Proud, Entertaining Leo on his sixth house cusp of employment and health, suggests a deep need to want to control his work environment versus being managed by others. Also it suggests that work could bring him into the spotlight (Leo).

Additionally, Pluto rules healing and transformation and located here with Saturn in the health house it gives a potential to be a healing agent for others, especially when taken into context with the rest of his horoscope, particularly the preponderance in Scorpio (Pluto’s sign) and four planets in the 8th house (Pluto’s natural house).

Pluto can even bring an obsession with work and health areas, as Pluto’s ray is so intense and focused wherever it is, especially when conjoined with Serious Saturn who also wants to be a formidable power in his own right. Pluto in the sixth can also make one feel that one has “a special mission in life” to perform.

Erratic, Rebellious Uranus in Gemini exactly conjunct his fourth house of the home and family suggests many moves in his lifetime and also indicates perhaps that he is a “rebel at heart,” as the fourth house also deals with our soul. Uranus likes to overturn the status quo so as to create a brand new order of things. It can be indicative of someone who is very humanistic and futuristic, if not eccentric.

“Analysis kills spontaneity. The grain once ground into flour springs and germinates no more.” Henri Frederic Amiel

Sun files into Studious, Dutiful Virgo (1:27 am EDT). Moon is in Scientific, Hi-Tech Aquarius. Love Goddess Venus and Sex Pistol Mars are holding on for dear life together in Mating Libra. The Leo Sun is catching some grief from Fashion Coordinator Mars in Libra because the Sun’s gold-colored tie is clashing with the variant gold tone hue of its sunspots (Sun semi-square Mars).

“The Sun enters Immaculate Virgo today, a sign known not only for its fortitude for cleaning, but also for its vast intelligence and book smarts. With the lovey-dovey, sex duo, Venus and Mars, still cooing with every breath, I’m thinking that it’s a grand time to dust off those fantasies about quiet librarians.

We need to drop by the public library and maybe hang out in the Aquarian Moon’s science and technology section. And brace ourselves for some page-turning moments, as we feel the heat coming off the books, and finally spy the “prim and proper” librarian, passionately fidgeting with her eyeglasses. OMG!!!

UPDATED NEWS: We earlier had reported here that the Van Gogh painting “Poppy Flowers” that was stolen on Friday from the Mahmoud Kahlil Museum, had been recovered by authorities late Saturday night at an airport in Cairo.  It appears now that the news report was flawed (Mercury retrograde?), and the painting is, unfortunately, still missing. So, Saturn and Pluto still have some more detective work to do together. But, guys, we all have complete confidence in the two of you still solving this case.

The painting disappeared with “Sun opposite Neptune,” a classic signature of thievery and deception.  Neptune rules paintings, and its ray is often prominent in art thefts. Saturn in Libra (the zodiacal sign also ruling fine art) was also exactly square Control Freak Pluto at the time, plus Mercury had just turned retrograde. My intial theory was that someone wanted the art for their own collection.

My fellow astrologer, Dipali Desai, on Twitter Saturday said that there was a good chance the thief (thieves) would be caught because of Saturn-Pluto.  Pluto is the Master Spy and Grand Detective and Saturn-Pluto can create transparency. The two are also superb at holding people accountable, so maybe the crime will get solved.

One news caption on this story is reading: “Confusion Grows Over Stolen Van Gogh painting.” It may be more accurate to title it: “Neptunian Confusion Grows Over Stolen Van Gogh Painting, Made Worse by Mercury Retrograde.”

“It’s a miracle that curiosity survives formal education.” Albert Einstein

The Sun has moved out of sedentary Taurus and into the naturally curious and chatty sign of Gemini. Gemini natives are restless with eclectic interests. They are usually walking encyclopedias due to their inveterate fact-gathering. They also equally love to share the information that they have compiled.

This Gemini energy inclines us to be more inquisitive now in our daily lives.  It’s also a good time for us to take up new studies, although after that Einstein quote, perhaps we’re better off studying on our own versus anything formal.

The Moon in studious Virgo supports the Gemini Sun today insofar as both are ruled by the planet Mercury, which governs our reasoning ability, and both like to figure things out.  However, Virgo is much more thorough and detailed, while Gemini is more diffuse.

Nevertheless today is an excellent day for any projects or tasks that call for a good measure of analysis. We are also more introspective with the Virgo Moon.

Venus in sensitive Cancer turns the volume up on our emotional needs in relationships.

In the News…

With Jupiter and Uranus in idealistic Pisces continuing their opposition to austere Saturn in Virgo, the sign of labor, there were labor strikes in Greece and Spain Thursday over their respective governments belt-tightening (Saturn) measures.

Jupiter expands whatever it is connected with and conjoined now with rebel Uranus we see this configuration manifesting as the urge for revolt (depicted by Uranus) resulting in some measure of chaos and anarchy.  Jupiter and Uranus fueled by escapist Pisces want to defiantly break free but restrictive Saturn is like a noose around their neck and will not budge. No-frills Saturn is perennially about “doing more with less” and adhering to a budget. This is not sitting well with much of the populace.

Growth (Jupiter-Uranus) is possible now but it has to be based on sound principles and drawing from previous tried and true experience (Saturn).  It is much riskier going out and starting something new from scratch now and forget about starting anything lavish, without the necessary funds. Saturn won’t let you get away with it. Pluto won’t either!

We have also seen the financial markets tanking due in large part to debt-fears and worry (Saturn).

Remember a couple days ago in my horoscope when I wrote about the “weird” Sun square Neptune influence and that we had to be careful because we could get hoodwinked, especially financially.  I also discussed how that influence is often “ego-denying” and also how things sometime just “dissolve” and pass out of our lives under that configuration?

Unfortunately, that is exactly when we had that Paris art theft which robbed the world of five great paintings worth hundreds of millions of dollars, including works by Picasso and Matisse.  Neptune rules art and paintings and the challenging square that day from the acquisition-oriented Taurus Sun (ruling money and possessions) perhaps cosmically fueled this greedy act by the perpetrators. Neptune rules con men and “get rich quick schemes” and even though that day I wrote to steer clear of trying to make a fast buck, these criminal minds did exactly that.

I do believe, however, that the Universe has a way of balancing the karmic scales, so whoever did this will eventually have to pay, one way or the other, but in the meantime, it is very sad that these  (Neptune) paintings have suddenly “dissolved” from world view. That is often how Neptune energy operates, we can’t understand why certain things have to “pass away.”  John F. Kennedy was assassinated under a strong Neptune influence (Saturn square Neptune).

Speaking of “world view” also with Sun square Neptune this week the Pakistani government blocked YouTube and Facebook citing “growing sacrilegious” content.  Neptune rules imagery and photos and also gives a preoccupation with spiritual matters.  Neptune is presently in the sign of Aquarius which rules the internet. Anyway, thought it was very interesting that with the Sun-Neptune, internet images were “banned” or suddenly snatched away again (Neptune’s dissolving ray) as well, at the same time as the paintings.

Wrapping it up here (it’s often hard for me to do with Jupiter in Gemini), yesterday we had the Sun sextile Uranus influence.  If you recall in yesterday’s blog, I mentioned that it was cool energy and very innovative.  Uranus rules genius and invention, as well as scientific breakthroughs.  Well, it was announced Thursday that the world’s first synthetic life form has been built. Definitely an Uranian announcement.  Also, must give some credit here to Mercury (governing news and communication) trine Pluto, as Pluto rules scientific research governing life and death areas.  Mercury-Pluto perennially delivers up news about historic firsts and it came through again for us here.

Enjoy your Friday! Give someone a warm hug with Venus in Cancer.

Astrology May 2010: Pablo Picasso Painting Sets Auction Record

A painting by Picasso “Nude, Green Leaves and Bust” sold for $106.5 million last night at Christie’s, setting a record as the most expensive piece of artwork ever sold at an auction.  Picasso reportedly painted the picture in one day.

What I thought was most notable here astrologically in the horoscope for the auction: The transiting Sun in Taurus exactly square pioneering Mars in Leo.  Taurus rules money and possessions and Mars in Leo represents creative endeavors.  Mars is adventurous and often denotes “firsts” while the square “forces action,” often impulsive action.

With the Sun in the possession sign of Taurus, aligned with risk-taker Mars in creative Leo, there was “more of a mindset” to spend a record amount of money for creative, original artwork.

We also still have Mercury in acquisition Taurus separating from a trine to history-making Pluto in Capricorn, which is a very status-conscious sign.  Of course, owning a Picasso is definitely something of a status symbol.

Transiting Uranus is also at the last degree of Pisces, the sign of the zodiac which rules paintings and artwork. The nature of Uranus is unpredictable and Uranus more often than not ushers in new trends.

Uranus also equates to genius. Positioned at the end of Pisces, as it is now, could it be that Uranus is symbolically paying special homage to one of the most talented, genius artists who ever lived?

Just a thought.

I always regard planets at the end of the signs as having special significance for the collective, usually in a very spiritual and transforming way.

Picasso himself was a transforming figure born under Scorpio.  He also had four planets and Chiron in Taurus in his tenth house of career.  Taurus, ruled by beauty-loving Venus, can be very artistic and talented at creating objects of beauty.

Presently, both transiting Uranus and Neptune are exactly aspecting Picasso’s Pluto in Taurus in his career house.  Pluto rules death and rebirth and is associated with historic precedents – even from beyond the grave.

Also very interesting here, Picasso’s birth chart Pluto was at 29 degrees of Taurus, maybe signaling from the start that he was going to have a huge impact with his artwork on the collective (Pluto rules the masses).  This is again riding on the theory that planets at end degrees have special potency and meaning, reflecting a full maturation of what is originally intended with the sign. Taurus signifying artistic prowess.

Neptune, as ruler of Pisces (and the higher octave of Venus-ruled Taurus) , is also associated with art and paintings.  Neptune, too, interestingly enough, is exactly conjunct Picasso’s 8th house of death now.  This house also pertains to matters of his estate.  Suffice it to say, the beneficiaries to Picasso’s estate are very happy today that Neptune is there, don’t you think? Neptune on the regenerating 8th house, the rich legacy of his painting continues and reaches a new level on the material plane.

“We spend our time searching for security and hate it when we get it.” John Steinbeck.

The Moon’s foray through innovative Aquarius give us an itch to defy convention and try something new, even if it puts some of our security at risk.

The lingering Sun square Mars energy is also suggesting to us that we may want to move outside our comfort zone and expose ourselves to new circumstances.

While the idea of change can be daunting, it can also be empowering.  Sometimes incorporating change into our lives in the form of baby steps is the wisest course of action, until we get more familiar with stepping outside our world.

“All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another.” Anatole France.

Often changing our lives for the long-term is simply a matter of changing our daily habits.  We are, after all, essentially what we do every day.

As change agent Uranus, the ruler of Aquarius, gets ready to enter Aries, the sign of personal new beginnings, we may want to start thinking about phasing in new habits into our lives.

It usually is most effective if we begin by implementing only one new habit at a time and giving it time to gel.  Usually a 30-day period is what is needed.

It’s best to write down on a piece of paper our reasons, motivations, and strategies for making changes as well as keeping a daily log or journal of our progress.  We also need to remember to reward ourselves for our successes along the way.

“Expelled from individual consciousness by the rush of change, history finds its revenge by stamping the collective unconsciousness with habits and values.” Arthur M. Schlesinger.
