Cosmic Weather:

“Flexibility is the key to stability.” John Wooden

The Waxing Moon is spending her first full day in stabilizing Taurus. She’s also still in her New Moon phase. A perfect time for fine-tuning our intentions. Getting clearer on what we want to manifest in the month ahead.

This morning, Luna conjuncts erratic Uranus (9:18 am). A planetary player that’s legendary for throwing more than a few curveballs our way. But Taurus the Bull sometimes has a rough time catching things on the fly so we could feel a tad out of our comfort zone now. But scrambling to come up with some cool new power moves (while munching down on that lush green dance floor), could likely keep the fastball in our court!

Luna also squares stickler Saturn in Aquarius (2:30 pm), suggesting some kind of pullback or withdrawal. Or perhaps feeling a need to regroup or go over things again as a way to cast aside doubt (or tie up any loose ends). Emotionally, it can make us feel a bit more distant.

The real cosmic biggie for today: The Sun in Aries sextiles Mars in Gemini (7:09 pm). Sun-Mars aspects often go hand-in-hand with exciting new launches, embarking on new adventures. Making us feel on top of our game. Too, the Sun is presently in adventurous Aries, which is ruled by Mars. So there’s even more pizzazz to spread around. Mars in Gemini is also highly curious. Eager to see things from multiple points of view. Kind of like a bee buzzing around from flower to flower. That’s sort of how we are now.

Astrology in Action: With the Waxing Moon applying to an exact conjunction with game-changing Uranus in Taurus (the money and digital currency sign), Bitcoin hits a new record high (over 63,000.00!) right before the Coinbase IPO tomorrow. Also, obvious evidence of the trailblazing Sun-Mars energy at play! 🙂

Cosmic Weather:

“Nothing in the universe can stop you from letting go and starting over.” – Guy Finley

There’s a New Moon in trailblazing Aries, later tonight (10:31 pm). Harkening potent new beginnings! The sign of the Ram is perennially focused on putting things into motion (planting seeds), creating new opportunities. Finding ways to be more self-reliant. Independent. The specific house (area of life) that this lunation falls in, within our natal chart, will also be very activated now (for the next month), and where fresh starts are poised for liftoff.

New Moons, however, do take a little bit of time to gel as we’re essentially operating in the dark, so to speak. Unlike with a Full Moon when there’s plenty of light, with which to see, and illuminations can be overpowering.

The ruler of this Aries Lunation is Mars in Gemini which is also making a waxing sextile to the New Moon. This is a very supportive influence. Making us feel even more eager, enthusiastic about mentally pondering the slate of possibilities before us now. Jupiter in Aquarius sextiling the Lunation also adds a healthy dose of optimism to our outlook. It’s also good for trying out new approaches or methodologies. Getting backing from others. Interacting with groups. Jupiter’s ray also inclines us to want to “go big” with our new creations. Too, Mars is applying to a flowing trine to Jupiter, which perfects on Saturday (the 17th). Often one of the most beneficial times of the year, as Mars-Jupiter energy typically ratchets up our desires and endows us with an unstoppable “can-do” spirit!

Shortly after tonight’s New Moon, Venus in Aries (which is also conjunct the lunation) will also be forming a waxing square to Pluto in Capricorn (11:20 pm). What this can do, among other things, is make us very determined to have our own way in relationships (which could have consequences!). This can also give us an urge to purge the past and move on.

“Letting go means to come to the realization that some people are a part of your history, but not a part of your destiny.” Steve Maraboli

Cosmic Weather:

“The beginning is the most important part of the work.” – Plato

With the empowering Sun now nestled in the latter degrees of adventurous Aries, the zodiacal sign of “personal new beginnings,” there appears to be more of an urgent desire now to want to push ourselves forward with even more vigor or energy so we can quickly get done many of the projects that are still remaining on our “to-do list,” before time runs out.

Today, the Waning Moon is also in progressive, humanitarian Aquarius, all day, perhaps supplying us with a more emotionally detached or objective perspective that also allows us to consider our lives or personal interests within the confines of a much broader social context. While Luna in Uranus-ruled Aquarius often enjoys or gravitates towards involvement in outlets that advance the collective as a whole, there is also still likely a strong desire for simultaneously preserving individual freedoms or liberties at this time.

Additionally, the Aquarian Moon is an excellent period for experimentation, scientific research, and or fashioning such things as social reforms or new protocols, especially since we also have the ruler of the Aries Sun, assertive Mars, still transiting through Aquarius.

Cosmic Weather:

Unlike yesterday, the first day of the new year, when the Moon was still nestled in reflective Pisces (for most of the day), we’re finally presumably ready now to pivot full-speed ahead into 2020 with the waxing Moon deposited in “start-me-up” Aries, all day, the very first sign of the zodiac and a Moon sign that is notorious for acting with a heightened sense of urgency. The Moon in Mars-ruled Aries characteristically tends to animate and quicken our emotional expression.

Luna will also be reaching her First Quarter Phase, late tonight (11:45 pm), which can also motivate us to get going on the intentions that we may have nobly set during the Solar Eclipse in Capricorn, last week. Often, too, during a First Quarter Moon, we’re naturally feeling a bit of inner angst as we see some of the puzzle pieces (our intentions) start to fall into place, but we’re still not quite sure what the end result might be. Kind of like we’re peeking into the oven window now, checking to see whether or not the cake is rising, all the time wondering: Did we add enough flour? Put in enough eggs? Did we even remember to turn on the frickin’ oven before we plopped it in? 🙂

With the instinctual Moon in pioneering Aries also squaring the power-brokering Sun in more traditionally-minded Capricorn we’re also possibly weighing whether or not we should just play it safe and toe-the-company-line now or whether we may need, instead, to bust out and play by our own impressive rule book, which we’re likely making up moment-by-manic moment.

Fortunately, intellectual Mercury is also conjunct expansive Jupiter in earthy Capricorn today (11:42 am), which should help to supply all of us with a bevy of big, yet solid ideas on what to do next with regard to our fabulous, exciting lives in this brand spanking new decade. Optimistic Jupiter is the planet of vision and while he, yes, does love to bloviate, and can exaggerate, he can also help us to see the bigger picture as well as inspire us to go for it. Too, Saturn-ruled Capricorn energy is very structuring, very foundational, very purposeful in nature so, actually, this Mercury-Jupiter conjunction in Capricorn is perfect for us now, at the start of the year, because we’re less inclined to be fooling or deluding ourselves with, essentially, pie-in-the-sky ideas. Rather, we’re potentially channeling really powerful, usable “heady stuff” from the muses now that can duly advance us along on our own special life path, with an added Jupiterian spring in our step, thrown in for good measure.

In general, Mercury conjunct Jupiter is excellent for such things as publishing, writing, promotions, conducting interviews, crafting or giving speeches, business planning, announcing business mergers, enrolling in new classes, and putting on or developing motivational seminars. It’s also often an aspect when we may hear “good news,” or we’re at least able to put a positive spin on whatever may come down the pike.

Too, since it’s the start of a new decade, I thought I would also put an extra “Mercury-Jupiter” flourish on this, my very first blog of the year. I have intuitively drawn a Tarot Card for “the energy of the day” and it is the Ten of Pentacles, which I’m ecstatic about because it’s not only one of my favorite cards, but it’s also normally regarded as a celebratory card, as well as card of success and abundance, suggesting, among other things, that we’re more able to enjoy or fully partake in the realm of earthly pleasures (Pentacles) now while also being able to more fully express or showcase who we really are (the culmination of the number ten). It’s like we’ve done the work, paid the dues, and now we’re ready for the bestowing upon us of our perceived just rewards.

Anyway, Happy New Year! I hope it’s a good one for you!

daily astrology, Moon in Aries, Moon square Jupiter, new beginnings, numerology, self-confidence

Cosmic Weather:

We have a big costume change midway through the day, today! 🙂

First Half: We start out our Thursday with the waxing Moon still in sensitive, go with the flow Pisces. So granting ourselves perhaps a few moments of blissful solitude can be a perfect way for us to get gently centered in the rhythm of the day. The Pisces Moon is also void-of-course for over 7 hours today (from 3:15 am until 2:44 pm, when it ingresses into Aries), meaning it’s probably best to put off starting new projects until this void period is over.

Second Half: Once Luna rockets into fiery Aries, this afternoon, we’re once again cleared for taking direct action and generating exciting new beginnings.

With the reflective Moon also governing our emotional responses, in Aries the ram we tend to react quickly and impatiently to things, which can result in our potentially being more confrontational. Too, engaging in physical activity, such as working out at the gym, is often a great way to diffuse any tension we may be feeling now.

Shortly after the Moon enters Aries it also forms a waxing square to expansive Jupiter, still newly installed in ambitious, authoritarian Capricorn (4:09 pm). Luna squaring Jupiter tends to inflate our self-confidence or sense of self-importance. Nothing wrong with this unless we perhaps end up taking on, or committing to, more than we can handle. We are also possibly more apt to having philosophical differences with others now. On the plus side, this aspect can teach us how to become more tolerant, but only if we’re willing to entertain different points of view. Sometimes, too, when Jupiter is afflicted by aspect, it takes on a very zealous quality which, on the shadow side, can make us more narrow-minded, arrogant, or self-righteous in our beliefs.

“Once you create a self-justifying storyline, your emotional entrapment within it quadruples.” Pema Chodron

Numerologically, it’s a “five” day which can also be very energetic and mentally restless. The challenge is to find a way to contain the energy in a productive way. There’s also somewhat of a rebel or non-conforming vibe to the number 5.

Cosmic Weather:

It’s always nice to begin our Monday with a little bit of extra zing, going for us – and that appears to be the situation today!

The Waning Moon (governing our emotions) first shifts into “start me up” Aries, this morning (6:02 am), the sign of new beginnings, and then, later tonight, the Sun (ego, purpose, and will) follows suit with a shift into “self-expressive” Leo the Lion (10:50 pm), where it will hang out for the next 30 days, giving us ample time to “strut our stuff” as well as display/employ/develop our creative abilities and leadership skills. When the Sun is in proud, self-confident Leo, we naturally like to be in charge. We also crave the limelight. The Sun will be joining assertive Mars, already in Leo, and, later this week, lovable Venus will also be entering this kingly-queenly sign.

Another cool thing about today is that, numerologically, it’s the 22nd day of the month. The number 22 is considered to be a “master number” and is linked with the “master builder” vibration, potentially allowing us to manifest our dreams with greater ease.

Also, the simple fact that it’s a Monday, the beginning of the workweek, can inspire or re-motivate us to, once again, get going with our lofty, very laudable agendas. (In Daniel H. Pink’s latest book “When”, he mentions “Mondays” as one of the “temporal landmarks” associated with fresh starts.)

Too, since the Moon is in its waning phase and decision-maker Mercury is retrograde until July 31st, it may be best to focus on putting the finishing touches on our magnifico creations now instead of rolling out anything new.

“Starting is not most people’s problem, staying, continuing and finishing is.” Darren Hardy

*All times EDT

On This Day in History: On July 22, 1959, Ed Wood’s cult classic “Plan 9 From Outer Space” (an independently produced science fiction-horror film) called one of the worst films ever, premieres.

Astrologically, that day, presenter Mercury was stationing retrograde in “Hollywood director” Leo conjunct eccentric, quirky Uranus (the planet which also governs science fiction). Enterprising Mars was also newly-installed in detail-minded Virgo conjunct “shock-jock” Pluto. Mars and Pluto were also trine to “Father Time” Saturn in “professionally-minded” Capricorn which is maybe why the movie is still being talked about today. Trines to Saturn are associated with longevity (or staying power).

Hope you enjoy your Monday!

Cosmic Weather:

“It is not the failure that holds us back but the reluctance to begin over again that causes us to stagnate.” Clarissa Pinkola Estes

We have a New Moon in ‘initiating’ Aries today (4:50 am). It’s also the first New Moon of the astrological new year, which occurred when the Sun entered the sign of Aries at the Spring (Northern) equinox.

The New Moon in Aries is always a time for us to embark on personal new beginnings. The keywords for Aries are: I am. So we’re recognizing or affirming our very existence now by putting things into motion. By taking action. By creating. We’ll also want to pay attention to the house in our natal chart in which this New Moon is occurring as that is the area of our life in which these new activities will be getting underway.

This is also an excellent time for us to incorporate some of the qualities of Aries, such as independence, adventurousness, and fearlessness. Also, for learning how to take the initiative in matters as well as for developing a strong belief in ourselves.

Aspect-wise, today’s New Moon is square to Saturn, Pluto, and the South Node in Capricorn. Suggesting that it’s very important now to be very focused and grounded (Saturn) in our actions; assertive, but not pushy (Pluto); and responsive, instead of reactive (South Node).

“When it’s obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don’t adjust the goals, adjust the action steps.” Confucius

Astrologically, that day, there was a grand fire trine involving the Sun, Mercury, and Chiron in pioneering Aries; visionary Neptune in leadership Leo; and the Moon in futuristic Sagittarius. Jupiter was also retrograde in resourceful, transformative Scorpio and trining Uranus, the planet of invention and technology, in imaginative Pisces.

Famous April 5 Birthdays: Booker T. Washington, Spencer Tracy, Bette Davis, Gregory Peck, Colin Powell, Pharrel Williams

“Success is not to be measured so much by the status one has attained in life but rather by the obstacles one has overcome while trying to succeed.” Booker T. Washington.

Booker T. Washington, an American educator who was born into slavery (b. 4/5/1856), was also born right after a New Moon in Aries, just like we have today. He had his Sun and Moon conjunct in pioneering Aries, along with four planets conjunct in compassionate Pisces – Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, and Neptune. (Today we also have Mercury, Venus, and Neptune conjunct in Pisces!)  His Pisces planets were also all square to teacher, obstacle-ruler Saturn in thinker, information imparter Gemini.

Astrology January 1, 2014: A New Moon in Capricorn

“If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.” Henry David Thoreau

COSMIC WATCH:

With it being the first day of a brand new year, many of us are excited about writing a fresh, new chapter in our lives and also, perhaps, very hopeful or optimistic that we will be able to make tangible traction toward our dreams in 2014. Too, when some of us take a moment to look back in the rear view mirror at 2013, and gaze upon some our perceived “failures” or “fiascos” of the past year – the Neptunian dreams that maybe woefully went south – we may be tempted to scratch our heads and wonder to ourselves, “What in the world were we thinking by attempting such ludicrous or hare-brained things in the first place?” What do they say, that hindsight is always 20/20? 🙂

But, what if we cut ourselves a bit of slack here? And, instead of maybe regarding some of our so-called “missteps” or “blunders” as evidence of our towering and undeniable stupidity, or naivete – or whatever disparaging description that we opt to attach to our humble self – and chose instead to characterize these “well-intentioned, past creative renderings” of ours as simply “castles in the air” that just haven’t been given their foundational wings yet, as Thoreau suggested that we do? Maybe this type of morale boosting, “bigger picture point view” would duly inspire us to non-sheepishly resurrect (Pluto) some of our former, unfulfilled dreams in 2014. Dreams that are still likely very worthwhile for us to pursue, if only because, despite all of our best efforts to repudiate, silence or distance ourselves from them, they continue to keep tugging away at our heartstrings for completion. Victor Hugo once said that, “There is nothing like a dream to create a future.” Perhaps our dreams are also a vital part of our basic survival instinct, as they motivate us to keep going, and going, and going – kind of like the Energizer bunny.

Too, many of us are also likely ready now to break out of the gate – to chase after that Energizer bunny  – with eight planets (including the Sun and Moon) in the initiating, action-packed Cardinal signs, as well as a New Moon in persistent Capricorn occurring today. This is also the first time that we have reportedly had a New Moon on the first day of January in 19 years.

Capricorn is an earth sign that is associated with employing practical, strategic measures to obtain its goals. It is all about putting a solid foundational structure in place as a springboard for realizing our dreams or agendas. As a sign, Capricorn is focused on the outward contributions that we as individuals are each able to make in society.  Capricorn is symbolized by the adaptive mountain goat.  Too, New Moons are all about new beginnings and setting our intentions for the future. Also, with each New Moon, we are attempting to internally integrate the qualities of the sign in which the lunation is occurring.

This New Moon is very powerful because it is part of a galvanizing grand cardinal cross. It is also conjunct “makeover” Pluto, the planet of death and rebirth, so hopefully we will be able to triumphantly “rise from the ashes” again and, like the phoenix, courageously reclaim some of our forsaken or abandoned dreams.  Pluto’s activated ray is also positive for helping us to maintain a single-minded focus. Additionally, Pluto energy is very good for helping us sort out what’s worthy of saving or salvaging from the past, and what should be purged or pitched for good – an especially valuable ability to have in our toolkit at the start of another year. “You may be the only person left who believes in you, but it’s enough. It takes just one star to pierce a universe of darkness. Never give up.” Richelle E. Goodrich

Famous January 1 Birthdays: J. Edgar Hoover, Betsy Ross, Paul Revere, J.D. Salinger. “I’d just be the catcher in the rye and all. I know it’s crazy, but that’s the only thing I’d really like to be. I know it’s crazy.” J.D. Salinger.

Happy New Year!

COSMIC WATCH:

“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.” Dale Carnegie

With the “empowering” Sun trining “courageous” Mars (8:59 pm EDT), the planet of action and adventure, we are more inclined to test our personal limits today. Or raise the bar on our performance. Sun-Mars aspects are also historically linked with new beginnings and discoveries. For example, Ted Turner launched CNN on a day when the Sun in “communication” Gemini was exactly square to Mars in “skillful, perfecting” Virgo.

Too, Sun-Mars is an excellent catalyst for helping us get unstuck, as Mars rules our motivation or drive to succeed. When it is aligned with the Sun, which symbolizes our ego and deep sense of self, we usually have more of a well of self-confidence, enthusiasm, and willpower. Mars also governs our physical energy.

The Moon’s entrance into “curious” Gemini (1:05 pm EDT) additionally supplies us with a plethora of fresh ideas or perspectives today, which can always be very invigorating. Our ideas potentially hold so much power for us, don’t they? Sometimes, just one thought can change the trajectory of our lives forever when we choose to act on it.

What would you do if you knew you could not fail?

COSMIC WATCH:

What “new beginning” is calling to you in your heart? It could be that today’s New Moon, at 2 degrees of pioneering Aries (10:37 am EDT), is a perfect chance to begin making serious inroads towards that new direction. Aries energy prompts us to take courageous action. It challenges us to venture outside of our comfort zones to open up new doors of possibility. It can also endow us with a greater desire for personal freedom.

With this New Moon in spontaneous Aries today, many of us may feel a little like a caged bird that is about to be set free. Too, we will want to take a look at the house (or area of life) in our personal horoscopes where this New Moon is taking place, as that is where this eager, little bird Is getting ready to take flight and, hopefully soon, soar to new heights.

This lunation, which is really a marriage of both the Sun and the Moon, is also conjunct “radical” Uranus and “thinker” Mercury. An alignment that may very well increase our capacity for originality and brilliance. Uranus governs both genius and intuition. We are also now more comfortable rejecting or challenging the status quo.

Of course, with decision-maker Mercury still retrograde, and initiating Mars, the ruler of Aries, also retrograde, in stickler Virgo, we may still feel some pressure to edit ourselves and play by the rules. Also, we will probably need to be open to changing or modifying our course of action, at a later date. Retrograde periods are synonymous with revisions.

Too, we continue to feel the affect of that rare, transforming grand earth trine involving Mars, Jupiter and Pluto. “We can change our lives. We can do, have, and be exactly what we wish.” Anthony Robbins (Robbins also has his natal Moon in Aries.)

New Moon in Aries activities/aptitudes: Joining a gym; involvement in sports, athletics, or martial arts; self-promotion; cold-calling; hiking; camping; matters involving the military; setting new records; making new discoveries; showing bravery, demonstrating valor; taking risks; being adventurous.

Famous People with Moon in Aries: Whitney Houston, Jamie Lee Curtis, Sarah Ferguson, Jennifer Lopez

Happy New Moon blessings! Where does the New Moon fall in your chart? Since I have a 2 degree Aries Ascendant, I guess I am the poster child for this lunation. Sort of like my fifteen minutes of fame, I guess. 🙂
