Cosmic Weather:

“Where love rules, there is no will to power; and where power predominates, there love is lacking. The one is the shadow of the other.” – Carl Jung

This Wednesday morning, Mercury is stationing direct in practical Capricorn (8:12 am) – the sign which governs career, responsibilities, reputation, and self-mastery. This suggests that some of the ideas, plans, or directives pertaining to these areas – that were maybe creatively fermented or concocted during Mercury’s three-week retrograde (or re-ordering) phase – will now begin to pick up some momentum or traction in the days and weeks ahead, allowing us to make forward progress in our lives.

Too, as thinker Mercury seemingly changes its direction in the sky now, it is thought that it is best to refrain from making any key decisions, for the moment, so as to allow some time for the planet to get re-oriented, a bit, to its surroundings.

The Sun and Pluto are also having their annual conjunction in Capricorn today (9:44 am), which can sometimes seem to rachet up the level of intensity in our lives as well as our surroundings. The Sun governs our ego, will, and sense of power, while Pluto symbolizes control and transformation.

While this aspect can manifest in various ways, sometimes it appears to coincide with a burning desire now for what could be regarded as wanting to implement extreme makeovers, or radical do-overs, sensing that what currently exists around us is either outworn or decaying and will perish soon without some kind of intervention – which may or may not exactly be the case – although it may certainly feel that way to us now. On a psychological side, this aspect tends to acquaint us with our shadow side, including our fears or possible manipulative impulses. Overall, this influence can often be a cathartic type of experience as it may motivate us to face down perhaps what scares us, or makes us feel uncomfortable, so that we can maybe make some changes that allow us to more confidently step into our own power.

“Always do what you are afraid to do.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Astrology January 13, 2020: Sun Conjuncts Pluto and Saturn – Redesigning the Map

Cosmic Weather:

“Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.” Rumi

You know, our lives would probably be a whole lot easier and run much more smoothly if the only kind of change that we ever had to grapple with, or anguish over, was the “pocket change” variety, as in dealing with real coins that jingle. Of course, that realm is really no longer even a psychological “safe haven” for us anymore with the confusing arrival of Bitcoins, which, if I didn’t know any better, would likely assume was some kind of sugary cereal, kind of like Lucky Charms.

Anyway, yesterday, we finally experienced the exact occurrence of the “Saturn-Pluto” conjunction and we witnessed, among other things, at least on a collective level, a lot of geopolitical tensions/unrest/government-rulership changes, including the widely publicized protests by the people of Iran to the tragic, accidental shooting down of that passenger jetliner, reportedly by the Iranian government, a few days ago in Tehran (an act which also occurred when aviation-ruling Uranus was stationing direct). There was also the dramatic eruption of the Taal Volcano in southern Luzon in the Philippines, which is still ongoing, spewing forth toxic ash plumes and forcing immediate evacuations in the surrounding region (Pluto rules volcanoes). Our heart goes out to all those who are suffering hardships or enduring adversities now.

Today, the illuminating Sun in self-mastery Capricorn is also “re-activating” that Saturn-Pluto conjunction, first forming its annual conjunction with transformational Pluto (at 8:21 am) and then doing the same with organizing Saturn (at 10:15 am). In a nutshell, I think these two separate “power alliances” means that we’ll likely be needing to put on our engineering hardhats and plop down our derrieres behind the drawing board now, at least for a spell, so we can do some conscious creative redesigning (Pluto) of our world (Saturn), as we know it. Make it more vital and true-to-form for us in 2020 and beyond. While there may be some initial reluctance or hesitancy to do this sort of exhausting thing, we also likely sense that taking this kind of firm (Saturnian) action, at the moment, is probably in our best interests, especially if we’ve been feeling some degree of stagnation or lack of meaning because our lives have maybe become too predictable.

On the other hand, it could be that we are forced to make changes now because what we’ve been doing is no longer working for us, maybe simply because our situations or circumstances have changed. In some cases, too, we may be experiencing a positive consolidation of our power and are seeking now to exert more control over our lives. Whatever the scenario, “extreme makeover guru” Pluto doesn’t appear to want us to really rest or chill out until all the creation/destruction/rebirth that he has in mind for us, has been fully executed, as he’s trying his best to, seemingly, take us to the next level! Of course, we must always keep in mind the simple fact that we always have the final sayso, in the end, depending on how we choose to respond.

Fortunately for us, too, sweet Venus (the goddess of love, beauty, and harmony) – which is presently in detached, high-tech Aquarius – is also working very busily, and unsuspectedly, behind the scenes now, plotting her “great escape” from all this intense, high drama. If all goes right, she will be fleeing into the healing, engulfing, soothing waters of Pisces, early this afternoon (at 1:39 pm) but we must not tell a single soul, less we foil her plot. It’s a good thing, too, that the Moon is exiting bombastic Leo for magnifying glass Virgo, this morning (9:06 am), as this should give her plenty of time to refine or perfect all the details of her pending adventure.

*All times EST.

Tarot Card for The Day: It’s the “Four of Swords,” a card that depicts a corpse lying in state in a church (Rider-Waite Deck). This suggests a period of inward reflection is truly needed so we can get a handle on what we really need to do, where we want to really go with our lives, which have, seemingly, become way too rigid or purposeless. Also, it should be noted, that the “Hanged Man” and the “Hermit” (again) both fell out of the deck as I was shuffling it, along with the King of Cups. I think these first two cards are also possibly telling us that we must learn to accept or surrender to life “as it is,” instead of trying to fight or resist it. To also maybe have faith that all is well and working as it should be. The King of Cups also perhaps suggests that part of being a great leader is to tune in and listen to one’s own heart first, to one’s emotions and feelings, as well as to the pulse or heartbeat of the people.

Numerology: Today is a “thirteen” day, which also reduces down to the number four, suggesting that there is very good ability now for putting down a solid, secure foundation for the future, as well as being able to rally some support for what we’re attempting. It sounds like a winner! 🙂

Born On This Day: Entrepreneur and Democratic candidate for U.S. President, Andrew Yang, is turning 45 today. He once wrote: “There’s a big distinction between humans as humans and humans as workers. The former are indispensable. The latter may not be.”

Hope it’s a good one!

“Scared and sacred are spelled with the same letters. Awful proceeds from the same root word as awesome. Terrify and terrific. Every negative experience holds the seed of transformation.” Alan Cohen

The empowering Sun is conjunct perceptive Pluto in Capricorn today (6:36 am). Pluto is the modern-day ruler of Scorpio, the sign of life, death, and rebirth. This intense astrological aspect may help us to see more clearly the truth of a situation that maybe has been bothering or perplexing us for a while. Archetypally, Pluto symbolizes the underworld and the unconscious. It often reveals secret information coming from the depths. It can make us especially aware of what is toxic or festering below the surface that is in need of immediate release or resolution. Pluto is associated with psychotherapy, surgery, X-rays, elimination, and purging. In the body, Pluto rules the bowels and the rectum. Additionally, this is an excellent time for any kind of research, excavation, investigation or detective work. Sun-Pluto energy is equated with the ability for intense, single-minded focus and concentration, even to the point of obsession!

Ideally, Sun-Pluto alignments can ultimately be very healing and transforming as we learn to free ourselves from the vestiges of the past, which have had a limiting stranglehold on us, and get on with the life-supporting pursuit of aligning with new growth activities and self-expression. Sun-Pluto can serve as a powerful conduit to allow us to step into our own power or authority, and reshape our lives in such a way that they more fully radiate our authenticity.

On the shadow side, Sun-Pluto aspects can often trigger power struggles, bullying, sinister actions, manipulation, sudden breakdowns. The truth may also be used ruthlessly or selfishly as a way of gaining power or dominance over another.

Last night, on the eve of today’s Sun-Pluto conjunction, a very dramatic and moving development: Jayme Closs, a 13-year-old girl who vanished three months ago after her parents were found dead in their northwestern Wisconsin home, was found alive. A suspect was reportedly arrested a short time later. (CNN). Astrologically, one cannot help but think of the powerful Scorpionic rebirth aspect, at play here, of the phoenix rising from the ashes.

Earlier in the week, on Wednesday, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his wife MacKenzie Bezos announced on Twitter that they are getting divorced after 25 years of marriage. Jeff Bezos, the richest man in the world, whose birthday is tomorrow, January 12th – he’ll be 55 – presently has transiting Pluto now forming an exact conjunction with his Capricorn Sun, a long-term aspect that will stick around for a couple years. This influence operates essentially the same as today’s short-term Sun-Pluto conjunction. Since Jeff Bezos is such a public figure, we will be able to see, firsthand, how his Pluto-Sun is playing out, at least to the extent it is ever possible to know anybody from the outside in. It will also be interesting to see how this marital split might impact Amazon as a business. MacKenzie Bezos will soon be the wealthiest woman in the world as the Bezos’ live in a community property state. All the money he earned during the marriage, especially since there was reportedly no prenuptial agreement, is half his wife’s. They got married in 1993. He started Amazon a year or two later. Pluto also governs joint finances or resources that we share with others.

I’ve been away from here for almost a year and a half and am still trying to find my sea legs after having not written a thing during that long hiatus. “The cause is hidden. The effect is visible to all.” Ovid

COSMIC WATCH:

Today, the illuminating Sun is conjunct mysterious, intense Pluto, the symbolic ruler of the subconscious. This configuration has been compared to shining a bright light into a dark cave. We may suddenly become aware of deeper motivations, realities, or facts that were previously absent from our radar screen.

Too, it’s possible that some of what has been hidden or obscured from our view may have been due to a conscious effort, on our part, to not want to acknowledge certain things about ourselves. However, as Carl Jung once astutely stated, “What you resist persists.” It is really only when we have the courage to examine what we don’t want to look at, that we have a chance of finally putting the matter to bed and moving on. Sun-Pluto can also be very healing and transforming, especially when we are willing to face our fears or insecurities. It is also a time when we may want to fix or repair objects that are broken.

On another level, Sun-Pluto also tends to firm up our resolve or will. We can become very passionate now about going after what we want.  Also, on the flip side, we can become keenly aware of what we don’t want any more in our lives and we are not afraid to cut the strings now.

On the shadow side, there can also be a greater chance for power struggles or manipulations to ensue, with this influence, as our egos may be more unwilling to back off from our positions. What we may want to do now, to avoid wading into this sort of behavior, is to consciously seek out a spirit of compromise with each other. See what it is that we can all agree on. To help us out here, too, is a cooperative Sun-Saturn sextile. This constructive influence can inspire us to be more methodical and disciplined in our approach, more willing to delay immediate gratification in favor of obtaining our long-term goals. “As we get past our superficial material wants and instant gratification we connect to a deeper part of ourselves, as well as to others, and the universe.” Judith Wright

COSMIC WATCH:

The illuminating Sun is making its annual conjunction with secretive Pluto. What has been hidden in the depths may now be rising to the surface.  This is very potent energy for clearing, as Pluto governs the process of elimination. It also rules regeneration and transformation. When we willingly let go and release what is no longer needed, we pave the way for wondrous new beginnings to emerge. The Moon’s placement in dissolving, mystical Pisces today also supports our readiness for a spiritual renewal.

“I’ve always wanted to be a spy, and frankly I’m a little surprised that British intelligence has never approached me.” Elizabeth Hurley

WikiLeaks’ founder, Julian Assange, has reportedly inked a lucrative 1.3 million dollar book deal with a division of Random House.  News of the deal came with the transiting Sun exactly conjunct Pluto in achievement Capricorn. Pluto symbolizes all that is buried or hidden, and is historically associated with covert operations, such as spying and espionage. When Pluto’s ray is activated, we tend to find out big, juicy secrets, and spies, and others who deal with the surreptitious gathering and or releasing of information, often grab the news headlines of the day.

Also, when Assange was arrested in London on December 7th, stemming from accusations of sexual misconduct by two women in Sweden, Pluto was exactly conjunct the Capricorn Ascendant in the arrest “event chart.”

What we want to know is: Will WikiLeaks be leaking Assange’s manuscript? 🙂

Celeb Assange is presently out on bail and reportedly holed up in some mansion near London. He publicly stated on Sunday that he agreed to the book deal to help defray the cost of his ever-mounting legal bills, and to also keep WikiLeaks’ website afloat.

Earlier, the site’s previous spokesman also landed a big book deal. Daniel Domscheit-Berg’s book, Inside WikiLeaks: My Time With Julian Assange at the World’s Most Dangerous Website, will be out in February. He is also planning on launching a new venue for leaking classified info called Openleaks early next year. Much to Pluto’s delight.

“Reality continues to ruin my life.” Bill Watterson

Cosmic Weather:

“As if we didn’t have enough to worry about already today, with holiday gift returns and all. Now we have to add scary “boogeyman” Pluto, ruler of the underworld, to the picture, via the Sun’s conjunction to it in skeletal Capricorn.

What’s worse: The Pluto boogeyman may be holed up inside of us! Making him that much harder to eradicate, as he knows the location of our subterranean crawl spaces and can pull all of our scary strings.

With Sun-Pluto, we tend to look on the “dark side of things” and harbor suspicions. This energy often arouses our deepest fears, the ones that we have dutifully submerged over time. Pluto symbolizes what is buried deep within our “psychological caves.”

Sometimes, too, our suspicions are justified, as “master detective,” Pluto Cousteau, can bring clandestine activities into the light of day. Foreboding secrets are suddenly revealed, including the biggest of all: Evil revelations concerning our true weight! (Let’s really hope and pray that we can manage to keep that fat cat in the bag a while longer. :))

Too, there could also be real boogeymen lurking around outside of us! And chances are good that some of them may be sporting fashionable trench coats, bought on clearance from Kohl’s, and donning thick dark shades, and speaking with a whisper into walkie talkies. Yes, Sun-Pluto tends to bring out all the real-life spies (Pluto rules covert operations and hidden forces).

And here we thought with the tidy Virgo Moon, that we would be able to fit in relaxing bouts of vacuuming today. Instead, we have to grapple with seedy human affairs, and tortuous intrepidation and intrigue.  Go figure.

On the plus side, Sun-Pluto can be “enlightening” and “transforming.” It governs purging and elimination. But, can we stand the truth of the scale?  That’s the million-dollar question.

Questions to perhaps ask ourselves today: 1) What makes us afraid, and why? 2) Other than our weight, what are we most afraid of others finding out about us? 3) How have we conquered our fears in the past? Can we employ a similar type strategy today? 4) Along the same lines, what can we purge or eliminate from our lives now to feel better, more empowered about ourselves? 5) What do we obsess over, and why? (Pluto rules obsessive, compulsive behavior. Good time for psychotherapy, studying about psychology.)

COSMIC WEATHER:

The Emotional Moon continues in “Big Picture” Sagittarius, along with Pioneering Mars. Mental Mercury also joins the proselytizing pair there today, leaving guarded Scorpio (6:43 pm EST). With the Moon, Mars, and Mercury all installed in Sagittarius, we have an enthusiastic trio of, “Yes we can!” energy at our disposal.

Also, later on in the day, the Moon forms a square aspect to Optimistic Jupiter (9:04 pm EST), the ruler of Sagittarius, at which time we should pretty much be able to “walk on water.”

Sagittarius, the Archer, is a very futuristic, positive, and goal-oriented sign known for its broad vision.  The keywords for it are: “I inspire.”

One big drawback, though, to the “Eye on the distant horizon” Sagittarius energy is that it tends to “gloss over details.” And we all know that “The Devil” is ready to pounce on us, whenever we “screw up” or “get careless” with the details. So we need to make sure today that we also enlist the support of the Shrewd, Investigative Scorpio Sun before we “get in over our head.”

Activities highlighted today: Preaching, teaching, academic matters, writing, publishing, speaking, sales, cold-calling, social networking, traveling.

Quote for Today:

“If you only do what you know you can do – you never do very much.” Tom Krause

This Day in History:

On November 8, 1989, Douglas Wilder is elected the first black U.S. governor (Virginia).  Also, on that same date, David Dinkins is elected the first black mayor of New York city.

On that day, the Sun, Mercury, and Pluto are all exactly conjunct in “Transforming” Scorpio, the sign which Pluto rules. So we had like a “double-whammy” of major “renovating-type” energy.

Normally, when the Sun, which signifies power and leadership issues, conjoins “Controlling” Pluto, matters of dominance and control naturally come to the forefront. Intellectual Mercury’s inclusion here also suggests that our “mental consciousness” of the day was “more predisposed” towards embracing the idea of “a new order.” (Scorpio)

“Trailblazing” Mars was also at 2 degrees of Scorpio and exactly sextile to “Equality Ruling” Uranus, the electrifying “planet of change,”  at 2 degrees of Capricorn, the sign that “rules government.” “Energizer” Mars always tends to “fire us up,” and aligned with “Out of the Box” Uranus, we were much more likely to want to embark down “new” or “non-traditional” paths then, and also more interested in seeing that others also be granted “equal rights” or “equal input” (Uranus) in the hierarchy of government (Capricorn).
