Cosmic Weather:

(Mars in Scorpio forms a waning sextile to Saturn in Capricorn, 4:59 am.; Mercury in Sagittarius forms a waning square to Neptune in Pisces, 11:19 pm.)

Today, we are likely better off just going with what we know and playing by the rules  (Mars sextile Saturn), while putting off pondering the ambiguous or oblique (Mercury square Neptune) for another day. 🙂

Motivating Mars sextile structuring Saturn is excellent energy for invoking self-discipline, working diligently at projects, getting organized, creating order, bringing long-standing matters to completion. It can be a time when our patience and persistence are rewarded.

While there is not a whole lot of fanfare to this aspect, it is a great influence for rendering a solid performance, especially when we are working within our strength or comfort zones.

With Mars also deposited in reconfiguring Scorpio, it’s possible that our actions or efforts now may be generating some measure or sense of transformation or feeling of inner renewal.

On the shadow side, logical Mercury squaring fantasy Neptune, the planet of deception, can potentially challenge us mentally, making it harder to sort out fact from fiction. Our imaginations also tend to be working overtime now, which can possibly end up making us more vulnerable – depending, of course, on how we manage to spin things in our heads. Too, if something seems too good to be true now, it is probably a  hoax or possibly an extension of wishful thinking.

On the plus side, this aspect can be very advantageous for any type of creative work, particularly when we are able to get in the flow and suspend judgment of our output.

“Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.” Andy Warhol

*All times EST.

Hope it’s a good one!

Astrology November 24, 2015: Mercury Conjuncts Saturn

“When we keep our silence we gather our power; when we speak we let loose the concentration of quiet reverie.” Bryant McGill

Today’s Energy:

Communicator Mercury is conjunct “focused” Saturn in “philosophical” Sagittarius (11:57 pm EST), an aspect that is normally regarded as excellent for our power of concentration as well as ideal for filling in the details of any long-range planning. Albert Einstein, a Pisces Sun, had this same aspect in his natal chart, but in pioneering Aries. In fact, it was the closest aspect, in his chart, with the conjunction occurring only one degree apart, suggesting that this planetary pairing would have a defining impact upon his thinking and general behavior. Mercury-Saturn is also thought to correlate with more of an aptitude for science, math, research, and critical thinking in general.

Because cautious, serious Saturn symbolically represents the principle of contraction, sometimes with this Mercury-Saturn energy we also tend to “trim the fat from our words” choosing to be as precise or succinct as possible in our speech or writing. Of course, with this conjunction occurring in “voluminous” Jupiter-ruled Sagittarius now, we may not be as parsimonious with our words as might be expected! At the very least, however, this may be a very good time to scale deeper with our thinking, to become keener observers of the world around us, or to hone or develop our listening skills.

Because Saturn also symbolizes our fears, worries, or concerns, Mercury-Saturn can also find us pondering “worst case scenarios.” Benjamin Disraeli once mused about this type of thinking this way: “I am prepared for the worst (Saturn), but hope for the best (Jupiter).” Additionally, on the shadow side, Mercury-Saturn can trigger more judgmental behavior, as well as an intolerance for views that are different from our own.

Enterprising Mars in “balancing” Libra is also sextiling Saturn today, an aspect that is linked with sustained effort, industriousness, and planning for tomorrow, sort of akin to a farmer diligently sowing seeds for future crops. Too, with Mars in “collaborative” Libra, it can indicate a positive period for formulating or arranging diplomatic or cooperative strategies.

The Moon in “stabilizing” Taurus also potentially supplies us with extra reserves of patience and perseverance today. French playwright Moliere noted that the trees that are slow to grow “bear the best fruit.”

Questions for Today: What topics are more difficult for you to talk about, and why? Where in your life do you maybe need to let go of judgments? What might you need to say “no” to now as a way of loving self-care?

Famous November 24 Birthdays: Zachary Taylor, Scott Joplin, Stephen Merchant, Ted Bundy, William F. Buckley Jr.

“I won’t insult your intelligence by suggesting that you really believe what you just said.” William F. Buckley Jr. 🙂

Enjoy your Tuesday!

COSMIC WATCH:

“It is not enough to be busy… The question is: what are we busy about?” Henry David Thoreau

Although the Moon is still in exuberant Aries, there is a strong grounding component to the day. Energetic Mars is sextile stabilizing Saturn. An influence that tends to make us more focused and productive in our work.

The Moon is also void-of-course all day. This favors bringing matters to completion versus initiating anything new.

Famous November 24 Birthdays:  Linda Tripp, William F. Buckley, Jr. “Idealism is fine, but as it approaches reality, the cost becomes prohibitive.” William F. Buckley, Jr.

Astrology October 26, 2011: New Moon in Scorpio

COSMIC WATCH:

There’s a New Moon today in intense, probing Scorpio (3:57 pm EDT), the sign of death and rebirth. The Scorpio New Moon puts a focus on shared resources, investigation, personal transformation, and purging or recycling. This is a great time for us to go in depth with things. Or to do, or perhaps discover, whatever it is that we are passionate about, as Scorpio energy helps to align us with our heart’s innermost desires.

It is also a wonderful time to eliminate or prune non-essential or outworn elements (behaviors) from our lives. Especially since the New Moon is forming a harmonious sextile to insightful, paring Pluto, the modern day ruler of Scorpio. This Moon-Pluto aspect is akin to having a “double-whammy” of regenerating Scorpio energy at our disposal.

The New Moon is also opposing philosophical Jupiter, retrograde in financial Taurus. This configuration can have a more expansive impact on our outlook, as Jupiter formally governs our urge to grow.  Too, Jupiter, is forming a potent trine to renewing Pluto (exact on the 28th), which is also suggesting that we have a robust opportunity to significantly change or alter the playing field around us now in a positive way, especially if we concentrate our efforts and play to our strengths. We may also discover or claim resources that we never knew we had with this influence. Also, we may be able to profitably pool what we have with others as a way to have or gain more wealth. Jupiter Pluto can also specifically denote scenarios involving mega-wealth and can deliver to us experiences in which we are able to wield mega-influence.

In addition to today’s inspiring New Moon, another cosmic perk that we have going for us now is energizing, self-assertive Mars, in proud, confident Leo, is exactly sextiling stabilizing, anchoring Saturn in balancing Libra. This bodes well for our being able to be more disciplined and industrious in going after what we want. It also helps to supply us with more patience and resourcefulness.  The main kink in today’s stellar lineup may be romantic Venus’s square aspect to warrior Mars, which could find us sparring with our mate or partner. Although, the kiss and make up period afterwards could be fun. 🙂 Venus-Mars is a very sensual influence. People who have Venus-Mars aspects in their natal charts are usually very sexy.

“It is the passion that is in a kiss that gives to it its sweetness; it is the affection in a kiss that sanctifies it.” Christian Nevell Bovee.

One more thing: We will want to pay close attention to the particular house, in our personal horoscopes, that the New Moon is occurring in, as that is the area of our life where we are poised for a fresh start and where we also may have a potent chance for regeneration or renewal.

Scorpio governs the following areas or activities: matters of credit or debt; loans; taxes; joint finances; wills and estates; insurance; surgery and or healing interventions; purging and recycling; psychology; medical research; investigations; sex and intimacy; secrets, or whatever is hidden; obsessions; death and transformation; seances.

Happy New Moon Blessings!

Mars Sextile Saturn: President Obama Presents Medal of Honor

The U.S. military’s highest decoration, the “Medal of Honor,” was presented by President Barack Obama on Tuesday to Staff Sargent Salvatore Giunta at a special White House ceremony. Guinta is the first living person to receive the Medal since the Vietnam War. Guinta was honored for saving members of his squad in 2007 during the War in Afghanistan.

In astrology, the planet Mars rules “war” and “the military.” Mars (the aggressive urge) also denotes acts of “bravery” and “courage.” On Tuesday, when the Medal was awarded, “Warrior” Mars in “Inspirational” Sagittarius was exactly sextile to “Lord of Karma” Saturn in “Peace Keeper” Libra.  The “sextile” aspect is generally regarded as “harmonious” in nature.  Saturn also symbolizes “hard work” and “achievement.”

Often with Mars favorable to Saturn, we are “signaled out” and “rewarded” for our past efforts (past karma).  In this case, a courageous military hero (Mars) was formally saluted (Saturn) for his bravery.

Cosmic Word Of The Day: Optimism

(Moon in Pisces. Mars in Sagittarius sextile Saturn in Libra. Sun in Scorpio trine Jupiter in Pisces.)

Optimism: 1) a disposition or tendency to look on the more favorable side of events or conditions and to expect the most favorable outcome 2) the belief that good ultimately predominates over evil in the world

“The Illuminating Sun in Re-birthing Scorpio is harmoniously trine to Jupiter, the planet of optimism, in Faith-Based Pisces. With the two largest bodies of our solar system aligned, we’re wanting to do things on a ‘grander scale.’ The proverbial sky is definitely the limit today.

The Mystical Pisces Moon also has us courting miracles and chasing rainbows.

Enterprising Mars in Futuristic Sagittarius sextile to Karma Lord Saturn in Balancing Libra is also rewarding us for our diligent past efforts, and granting us passage to some of our noblest dreams, with the hope and expectation that we will stay focused and committed to doing our best in the future.”

“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” Winston Churchill

Astrology: Transiting Pluto’s “Appearance” In The News

“I believe in equality for everyone, except reporters and photographers.” Mahatma Gandi

As an astrologer, I have a passion for “mundane astrology.”  That’s the branch of astrology that deals with world events or world affairs.  Whenever something grabs my attention in the news, I immediately check out the stars to see if there may be a “heavenly connection.”  I was also a radio news reporter, at one time, so I guess the news is still in my blood. Too, with the way I see things, I do not believe we’re really getting the “full picture” unless we also look at the meaning and symbolism of the heavens in conjunction with what’s happening around us.  It’s part of the maxim I subscribe to: “As above, so below.”

With that said, It was some kind of week on the astrological front with the Sun and Pluto dramatically duking it out (“square” to each other in the sky).  Mundane astrologers were poised to expect “big things” to happen this week (because of this aspect) and we were not disappointed.  Everyone who paid any attention to the major news stories saw the more “collective ramifications” of the Sun-Pluto meet-up. Pluto pretty much dominated the U.S. headlines. Pluto governs, among other things: debt, credit, insurance, atomic energy, breakthrough discoveries. It also represents the urge for power as well as power struggles, changes in power, sexual issues, obsessions.

When Pluto’s ray is activated we usually see explosive issues erupting that have been simmering under the surface for a while. Pluto, as Lord of the Underworld, rules what is hidden, including hidden forces such as the Mafia and terrorists. It also symbolically or literally denotes the “death-rebirth process.” Pluto characteristically delineates crises that require immediate responses. It shows us what has broken down and what needs to be repaired, overhauled, or pitched. It governs events of more of an extreme nature that have the possibility to change and transform our lives.  Pluto also rules the masses or the collective itself.

(Also, to briefly decode into English the astrology: 1) A “square aspect” is a stressful alignment that denotes inner tension or conflict that ends up forcing action to alleviate the situation. 2) The Sun, by transit, “illuminates” or “brings out into the open” the issues that are ruled by the planet or heavenly body that the Sun is conjoined with, which in this case, was Pluto. 3)Sun square Pluto is a short-term influence that lasts for a few days, but it can powerfully trigger the impact of longer-term transits, which it did this week, most notably the long-term Saturn square Pluto transit.)

So, let’s revisit some of the more notable “Sun-Pluto news stories” of this past week. In many of the cases, too, we’ll see that action was taken (the square activating energy) to deal with or solve a long-standing problematic (Pluto) situation.  Keep in mind, too, that Pluto governs “reforms.” Also, importantly, I am not saying that “Sun-Pluto” caused anything to happen, I am simply drawing correlations, connecting the cosmic dots:

– U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced new rules Thursday which make it harder to expel gay service members. That tied in with the Sun-Pluto aspect in a few different ways: The Sun was squaring Pluto from the pioneering sign of Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, where it deftly could have theoretically primed us, on a psychological level, for new beginnings. Aries also rules the military, so you thereby had the potential for more receptivity within the military for accepting the new protocol (the new rules). Pluto, as stated earlier, also rules sexual issues, especially hidden sexual issues. And, Pluto deals with rebirth or transformation.  Pluto is presently in the sign of Capricorn, which rules government, so what we ended up having here was a growing awareness within the government that more needed to be done, changes needed to be implemented, about the military’s “hush-hush” (hidden Pluto) sexual orientation policy.

– The Obama administration announced major plans Friday to lower mortgage debt for troubled borrowers.  Of course, this was put forth due to the ongoing foreclosure crisis as well as the growing ranks of people underwater with their mortgages due to the real estate slump. (Pluto rules foreclosures and mortgages.)

– Significant changes were also approved Thursday by Congress that will overhaul the student loan program. The student loan “reform package” was part of the package of fixes to the healthcare bill.  (Pluto rules all loans including student loans.)

– The historic health reform bill passed and was signed into law.  (Pluto rules insurance.)

– A Greek Debt deal was finally reached in Brussels on Thursday after months of impasse.

– President Obama and Russian President Medvedev finalized a new arms control treaty on Friday to further reduce the nuclear arsenals in each country. (Pluto rules nuclear weapons.)   This matter had been in the works for months before finally being agreed upon this week.  What also theoretically helped out here astrologically, with this particular issue, was the exact sextile (an opportunity aspect) from Mars to Saturn this week.  Mars rules matters of war and defense, while Saturn rules restrictions and limitations.  So with these two planets in alignment there was the potential for more of a mutual receptivity to reduce (Saturn) the nuclear arsenals (Mars and Pluto).  Also perhaps pivotal here, Saturn was in Libra, a sign that rules diplomacy and it was harmonious to Mars in Leo, with Leo ruling world leaders.

– Russian banned Hitler’s “Mein Kampf” as extremist on Friday in an effort to curb the growing appeal of far-right politics.  (Pluto rules fascism, dictators and extremism in any form.)

– President Obama asked on Wednesday that Cuba’s leader free “all political prisoners” characterizing conditions there as “deeply disturbing.” (Again an action aimed at a dictatorial, “Pluto-ruled” power.)

– More than 100 people with possible ties to Al-Qaeda were arrested in Saudia Arabia Wednesday for allegedly planning attacks on oil and security installations in the country.  Also that same day, Osama bin Laden threatened retaliation if the 9/11 suspects are put to death. (Pluto rules terrorism, secret societies.)

– Go Daddy, the world’s largest domain name registration company, announced Wednesday it was going to stop registering Websites in China after the Chinese government required customers to provide photographs and other identifying information before registering.  (Another example of Pluto as it pertains to power and control issues, and the matter of the control issue, coming to a head.)

– Pope Benedict was accused of failing to act in reference to the sexual abuse of 200 deaf boys in the 1990s by a priest in the U.S. (Pluto rules sexual issues, including hidden sexual abuse and pedophilia.)

– Scientists identified the Denisovin hominin, a previously unknown type of human, through DNA analysis of a finger found in a cave in Siberia Russia. (Pluto rules caves and hidden places.  It also rules DNA testing.)

In closing, for those who want to jot it down on their calendars, the Sun will meet up with Pluto again (by opposition aspect) late June 2010 and then (by square again) late September 2010.   Of course, other planets will be aspecting Pluto as well, this year, generating similar affects. We’ll keep you posted.
