Cosmic Weather:

“Trees that are slow to grow bear the best fruit.” Moliere

Today, sitting on the sidelines and patiently waiting things out, may be our wisest or most prudent course of action now, especially if we’re getting clear indications that what we’re wanting or trying to push through is obviously not going to fly without tying up way too much (Saturn) of our precious energetic currency (Mars) or other resources. Metaphorically, Mars square Saturn (at 10:31 am) is often akin to feeling like we’re fighting an uphill battle, which we most likely are. Guess we just have to decide for ourselves, Do we really want to go there now, and if so, why?

Of course, sometimes, too, with Mars-Saturn, we’re internally feeling much more pressured to act swiftly now, for one reason or the other. Kind of like sensing that we’re running out of (Saturn-ruled) time. Mars-Saturn aspects are also often associated with a more concentrated effort or push. Since this Mars-Saturn is also a waning square, if we do act on something important to us now, it’s likely to finish off something that we earlier started or attempted. It could be that we’re also feeling more of a sense of responsibility to act now, even though we know that it may still cost us, in the end, and we may not necessarily get the result that we want.

Plus, we’re still also dealing with the waning Balsamic Moon today in “can’t we all just get along” Libra. Normally a period when we need to just let go, or possibly regroup and move on.

Later, Luna will shift into rejuvenating Scorpio (at 4:29 pm), with the New Moon occurring shortly before midnight (at 11:38 pm). New Moons generally give us a green light to wipe the slate clean and start all over again. Today’s lunation will also form an exact opposition to erratic, yet often innovative Uranus – possibly a tad intimidating. While this New Moon may be disruptive in some regards, in that it could present situations or circumstances that we weren’t expecting or were prepared for, it can also hopefully help to further us along in ways that ultimately prove to be freeing or liberating. We may also have to first work through, however, some initial feelings of inner discontent or unrest, as part of the whole process.

With reforming Uranus in stewardship Taurus, it could be that we’re also incorporating a new perspective or take on what it is that we truly value now and need in our life in order to feel more safe and secure in our little neck of the woods on Mother Earth. We may discover, too, that it is something that we didn’t originally envision as really needing. This might also be because we never even perceived it as a plausible option for ourselves, until now. (Kind of like that proverbial light bulb has suddenly gone off in our head giving us more options.)

Meanwhile, the revitalizing Scorpio New Moon is also a chance for us to empty ourselves of outworn behaviors or practices that have been perhaps keeping us stuck or immobilized in our sneakers. Issues of shared intimacy with others and getting out of debt may also be two key areas that are particularly highlighted during the coming month.

“Intimacy is not purely physical. It’s the act of connecting with someone so deeply, you feel like you can see into their soul.” Reshall Varsos

Questions for Today: What in your life is worth fighting for? What things are totally non-negotiable for you? What do you always need around you as a safety net?

*All times EDT.

On This Day in History: On October 27, 1954, Walt Disney’s 1st TV show “Disneyland” premieres on ABC. The theme song for the show was “When You Wish Upon a Star.”

In the sky that day, pioneering Mars was in technology-related Aquarius (the sign of broadcasting) and exactly square to the life-giving Sun in transforming Scorpio.

“If you can dream, you can do it. Always remember that this whole thing was started by a mouse.” Walt Disney.

Happy New Moon Blessings to you!

“When we keep our silence we gather our power; when we speak we let loose the concentration of quiet reverie.” Bryant McGill

Alley, Birch Alley, Tree, Birch, Rest

Today’s Energy:

Communicator Mercury is conjunct “focused” Saturn in “philosophical” Sagittarius (11:57 pm EST), an aspect that is normally regarded as excellent for our power of concentration as well as ideal for filling in the details of any long-range planning. Albert Einstein, a Pisces Sun, had this same aspect in his natal chart, but in pioneering Aries. In fact, it was the closest aspect, in his chart, with the conjunction occurring only one degree apart, suggesting that this planetary pairing would have a defining impact upon his thinking and general behavior. Mercury-Saturn is also thought to correlate with more of an aptitude for science, math, research, and critical thinking in general.

Because cautious, serious Saturn symbolically represents the principle of contraction, sometimes with this Mercury-Saturn energy we also tend to “trim the fat from our words” choosing to be as precise or succinct as possible in our speech or writing. Of course, with this conjunction occurring in “voluminous” Jupiter-ruled Sagittarius now, we may not be as parsimonious with our words as might be expected! At the very least, however, this may be a very good time to scale deeper with our thinking, to become keener observers of the world around us, or to hone or develop our listening skills.

Because Saturn also symbolizes our fears, worries, or concerns, Mercury-Saturn can also find us pondering “worst case scenarios.” Benjamin Disraeli once mused about this type of thinking this way: “I am prepared for the worst (Saturn), but hope for the best (Jupiter).” Additionally, on the shadow side, Mercury-Saturn can trigger more judgmental behavior, as well as an intolerance for views that are different from our own.

Enterprising Mars in “balancing” Libra is also sextiling Saturn today, an aspect that is linked with sustained effort, industriousness, and planning for tomorrow, sort of akin to a farmer diligently sowing seeds for future crops. Too, with Mars in “collaborative” Libra, it can indicate a positive period for formulating or arranging diplomatic or cooperative strategies.

The Moon in “stabilizing” Taurus also potentially supplies us with extra reserves of patience and perseverance today. French playwright Moliere noted that the trees that are slow to grow “bear the best fruit.”

Questions for Today: What topics are more difficult for you to talk about, and why? Where in your life do you maybe need to let go of judgments? What might you need to say “no” to now as a way of loving self-care?

Famous November 24 Birthdays: Zachary Taylor, Scott Joplin, Stephen Merchant, Ted Bundy, William F. Buckley Jr.

COSMIC WATCH:

With the Moon continuing a second day in “goal-directed” Capricorn, we’re still focused on reaching that proverbial mountaintop. Although, today, before we embark upon our noble ascent, we may want to also include extra reserves of character-building patience in our backpack, as a prudent insurance plan. This is because assertive Mars is applying to an opposition to resistant Saturn (1:12 am EDT Wednesday), an aspect that is often akin to having to navigate a seemingly, never-ending obstacle course.

Too, it might be important to keep in mind now that, while the view from the top is usually very fortifying and gratifying for our ego, sometimes just having the willingness and courage to show up and do our best each day, is a gallant victory in itself, regardless of the final outcome. “Try and fail, but don’t fail to try.” Stephen Kaggwa

Astrology August 15, 2012: Mars Conjuncts Saturn, Venus Opposes Pluto

COSMIC WORK:

“Patience and wisdom walk hand in hand, like two one-armed lovers.” Jarod Kintz

This may be a day when patience and perseverance pay off handsomely for us as we have assertive Mars conjunct exacting Saturn. Generally a time when it is suggested that we proceed at a slower pace and employ thoroughness and focus to all of our affairs.

Sometimes with this aspect we do meet up with unexpected delays or restrictions, which can, of course, test our patience. Unless we perhaps shift our perspective and allow ourselves to view any roadblocks as ultimately working in our best interests, for whatever reason, as Saturn is a great teacher. Also, our actions may provoke more scrutiny from others now.

Too, this is probably not the time to challenge authority figures or to buck the status quo, unless we have carefully done our due diligence and feel confident defending our position.

Sweet Venus is also opposing intense Pluto, an influence that tends to heighten our emotional expression. Occasionally, relationship issues that have been submerged or hidden will rise to the surface now, as Pluto governs the subconscious realm. This can be an appropriate time to “clear the air,” so to speak, due to the purging or cathartic nature of Pluto.

On the shadow side, however, we will want to avoid power struggles or manipulative moves as we find ourselves journeying through more complex emotional terrain. Pluto’s activated ray can sometimes tilt us in a more controlling direction, if we do not stay mindful of our behavior. Psychologists say that we often seek external control over others when we feel a lack of power within ourselves. “He who has great power should use it lightly.” Seneca

The Moon goes void of course in sympathetic Cancer at 4:21 am, entering colorful Leo at 2:05 pm EDT. Luna’s shift into Leo helps to elevate and emancipate our spirits and a conjunction with intellectual Mercury (11:24 pm EDT) endows us with a plethora of creative ideas.

Famous August 15 Birthdays: Ben Affleck, Julia Child. “I think careful cooking is love, don’t you?” Julia Child.

Astrology November 6, 2011: Invoking Our Inner Genius (Uranus)

COSMIC WATCH:

As the Moon leaves the soulful waters of Pisces and races into fiery, self-discovery Aries (2:02 pm EDT), there’s a fervor for newness and excitement in our lives. Especially when the Moon makes her monthly conjunction to freedom-loving Uranus (4:15 pm EDT), which often poises us to “push the envelope” and test the limits of things. This lunar influence can also incite our inner genius and make us more innovative, as Uranus is linked with brilliance and originality. Of course, on the shadow side, Moon-Uranus can quickly exhaust our reservoir of patience, if we’re not mindful, as it is highly charged, very restless energy, particularly in spontaneous, impulsive Aries.

“The two most powerful warriors are patience and time.” Leo Nikolaevich Tolstoy

Famous People with Moon conjunct Uranus: Anais Nin, Bob Dylan, Ann-Margret, Drew Carey, Jodi Foster

How can you engage or invoke your “inner Einstein” (Uranus) today? A couple helpful techniques: 1) Try to see beyond what appears on the surface of things. 2) Toss aside your natural assumptions and investigate matters.

November 6 birthday: Actress Sally Field turns 65 today! Field’s probing Scorpio Sun and pioneering Aries Moon exactly mirrors today’s Sun-Moon lineup. She also her Mercury and Venus conjunct in Sagittarius, which is additionally identical to what we have operating now. Mercury-Venus in Sadge can make a person very outspoken, but also very pleasant and likable, as Venus governs our “power of attraction.” With this aspect, we often seem to know the right things to say to others, to soothe or win them over. (Mercury rules words and communication).

Enjoy your Sunday!

COSMIC WATCH:

Cultivating patience helps to preserve our equilibrium this morning, in face of the restless, Aries Moon’s square to impulsive Mars, its planetary ruler, in protective Cancer (11:07 am EDT). This more challenging aspect can also trigger defensive posturing, particularly if we are feeling threatened by uncertain elements in our environment.

Cosmic forces should become easier to subdue once the Aries Moon sextiles serene Neptune in humanistic Aquarius (1:10 pm EDT), an invitation to demonstrate our caring and compassion. The Moon’s entrance into grounded Taurus (3:25 pm EDT) also helps to steady our emotions and tips the scale in favor of pleasurable pursuits as a rejuvenating uplift.

NEWS UPDATE: With the Moon at the very end of “Warrior” Aries and sextile idealistic Neptune, President Obama today awarded the Medal of Honor, our country’s highest military honor, to Marine Sgt. Dakota Meyer for his heroic actions in Afghanistan back in September of 2009. Aries is the zodiacal sign governing soldiers and the military. Moon-Neptune also tends to denote “selfless” behavior for the good of others. Very fitting energy for bestowing such a rare and noble honor upon a very brave soldier.

COSMIC WATCH:

“A handful of patience is worth more than a bushel of brains.” Dutch Proverb

The Universe supplies us with yet another golden opportunity to build up our reservoir of patience today with Mars, the energy planet, forming an exact square to restrictive Saturn. This more sobering influence tends to put a few roadblocks in our path and we often are forced to navigate detour routes or at least develop alternative plans of action.

Too, sometimes with this aspect we choose to bail out from projects, as Saturn can signify endings. Interestingly, on the eve of this influence being exact, it was reported that Apple co-founder, Steve Jobs, will be exiting his chief executive role at the company, a shocking announcement that has caught many by surprise. Jobs has been battling cancer for years. Additionally, Mars in Cancer is making a 135-degree linkup to dissolving Neptune in Aquarius today, the sign which rules technology. We also still have transiting Saturn making this same kind of alignment with Neptune which can again indicate an erosion or disintegration of established structures (Saturn) around us, part of the natural waxing and waning process of life on the earth plane. We have had this Saturn-Neptune influence for the last few days and it will continue for a few more.

Of course, when Neptune’s shadowy ray is stoked we can experience events that are more surrealistic or unusual. Or, just plain weird. Kind of like that strange earthquake this week near Washington DC, which yours truly also got to experience first-hand while sitting in a gas station of all places. Too, reportedly Moammar Gadhafi is now on the run which seems amazing after ruling Libya for over 40 years. And, unfortunately, we also have monster hurricane “Irene”  swirling around in the Atlantic expecting to hammer the eastern seaboard this weekend after pummeling the Caribbean (Neptune rules the sea).

There is a big cosmic dessert on the table today: Love Goddess Venus trines transforming Pluto! Hopefully, this will serve as a testament to the healing power of love. Too, Venus rules money and it was announced today that Warren Buffett, through his investment company Berkshire Hathaway, is going to invest five billion dollars in Bank of America sending those stocks temporarily soaring (they had been in the tank recently). Venus-Pluto symbolizes mega-money and big bucks dealings.

Enjoy your Thursday!

COSMIC WATCH:

The “trailblazing” Aries Moon encourages us to take initiative and to make discoveries on our own. Although the Moon’s opposition to “taskmaster” Saturn in relationship Libra (11:54 am EDT) also suggests that we need to remember to “play nice with others” along the way. Or at least be willing to tolerate a little interference with our plans.

John Maxwell in his book, Winning With People, mentions five “people principles” and one of those is the “Patience Principle,” which purports that “our journey with others is slower than the journey alone.”  This is so true, isn’t it? And possibly right on the money for us today, as Saturn also symbolizes patience.  Often when Saturn crosses our path, its main purpose is to help us build up our patience reserve.

Saturn is also referred to as “Father Time.” He is perennially pushing for us to be very mindful of our movements and how we are utilizing the time that we have been allotted.

“I want to go ahead of Father Time with a scythe of my own.” H. G. Wells

COSMIC WATCH:

“A bend in the road is not the end of the road, unless you fail to make the turn.” Author unknown

A few roadblocks or detours could be put in our path today with go-getter Mars (the accelerator pedal) and obstructionist Saturn (the brakes) meeting up via the quinqunx aspect. Sometimes this 150-degree “adjustment” influence also has us dealing with, or having to resolve, issues from our past (Saturn). Of course, a temporary cessation of forward motion, while sometimes aggravating, is not necessarily a bad thing, as it often gives us a chance to catch our breath.

Too, the Universe is sending us some helpful roadside assistance in the guise of the Sun’s opportunity sextile to innovative Uranus. Sun-Uranus is an empowering influence (Sun) for trying new approaches (Uranus) to old problems (Saturn). Hi-tech Uranus can provide us with sudden, bright ideas to help get us unstuck (Uranus governs our intuition). It is also a great influence for cultivating our own originality.

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Endurance is one of the most difficult disciplines, but it is to the one who endures that the final victory comes.” Buddha

Enterprising Mars in initiating Aries forms an exact opposition to restrictive Saturn in relationship Libra (12:03 pm EDT). Our varied efforts to spearhead things (Mars) may encounter stiff resistance or opposition from others (Saturn). “Mars-Saturn” energy is often portrayed as trying to drive a car (Mars) with the brakes on (Saturn). Often with this aspect we come to an awareness of our limitations or weaknesses, and accordingly, we often end up having to patiently revise our strategies, or run the risk of defeat if we don’t.

With Mars-Saturn, we often need to work harder, or at least smarter, and most likely in a very disciplined and controlled manner (Saturn). Too, if we do, and are able to endure and withstand any trials or hurdles that are put in our path, we may be rewarded with a golden victory.

The very last time that we had this identical aspect, Mars in Aries opposite Saturn in Libra, was back in late March of 1981. Interestingly, on March 29, 1981, the “London Marathon” debuted with 7500 runners. Of course, most of us have all heard about how hard marathon runners have to train. This arduous training process is a perfect template for understanding the workings of this “Mars-Saturn” type energy. It’s not an aspect for wimps or quitters. Or for those hoping to coast by on their coattails.  Mars-Saturn characteristically demands our best efforts.

The “London Marathon” is now reportedly one of the biggest running events in the world and is one of the five top world marathons that make up the World Marathon Majors. Too, this Mars-Saturn aspect is indelibly stamped in the horoscope of this annual event. (Birthchart horoscopes can be done for events, not just people.) Also, the day the London Marathon debuted, the empowering Sun was exactly conjunct energy planet Mars in Aries (Aries rules sports) for extra punch.

Wanted to throw in here, too, that actor George Clooney was  born with his Mars in entertainment Leo (0 degrees) exactly opposite his Saturn in ambitious Capricorn (his Saturn is at 30 degrees).  I also see George as a “marathon man” in many ways, don’t you? Seemingly extremely driven, probably doesn’t back down till he gets what he wants (he’s also a plodding Taurus). Too, what woman would not want to gladly “go the distance” with George, regardless of the hurdles? 🙂

Besides the Mars-Saturn opposition today, we also have the Moon entering passionate Scorpio (2:20 am EDT) intensifying our emotions and desires. The Moon also makes a potent sextile to transforming Pluto in Capricorn (2:14 pm EDT), Scorpio’s ruler. A good time for instituting “makeover projects,” especially on the career front (Capricorn).

NEWS UPDATE:  Here I am blogging about the very first London Marathon and, would you believe, that on this very day, with the Mars-Saturn opposition once again exact, Kenya’s Geoffrey Mutai ran the fastest marathon ever, finishing the Boston Marathon in 2 hours, 3 minutes, 2 seconds!!! How cool is that? I love the synchronicity!!!
