COSMIC WATCH:

Today, Mars, the planet of action and desire, moves into “practical” and “ambitious” Capricorn (6:43 am EDT), the last of the “grounded” Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) and the last of the “initiating” Cardinal Signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn).

Mars is in its “exaltation” in Saturn-ruled Capricorn, meaning that it matures, or comes “fully into its own” here. Mars in Capricorn is great news for all of us, as it can really motivate and inspire us to get “down to business,” with respect to making our goals and dreams a reality. Mars in Capricorn is highly disciplined, persistent, resourceful, and realistic. A perfect archetype for Mars, in this sign, would be that of a marathon runner. And, no doubt about it: we’re prepared to “go the distance” now!

Too, as a matter of full disclosure: I have my natal Mars in Capricorn, in my 10th house, at 7 degrees. It’s also conjunct my Capricorn Midheaven and the ruling planet of my birth chart.

Question for Today: Actually, today’s question is a “fill in the blank.” I know I would be way ahead of the game, if only I could get myself to __________.

By the way, Hillary has her natal Mars in “authoritative” and “self-confident” Leo the Lion, ideally endowing her with great leadership and executive ability. Mars is also exactly conjunct “strategic” Pluto, in her chart, suggesting that she has a real talent for “sizing things up.” Also, for “turning things around.” Too, it suggests that she ALWAYS does her homework, in advance, before she ever makes a move. A good archetype for her might be “the alchemist.” Mars-Pluto also poises her to fight to the bitter end. Would definitely not want to get on her bad side! Just sayin’. 🙂

Enterprising Mars in initiating Aries forms an exact opposition to restrictive Saturn in relationship Libra (12:03 pm). Our varied efforts to spearhead things (Mars) may encounter stiff resistance or opposition from others (Saturn).

Mars-Saturn energy is often portrayed as trying to drive a car (Mars) with the brakes on (Saturn). Often with this aspect it is thought that we come to an awareness of our limitations or weaknesses, and accordingly, we often end up having to patiently revise our strategies or run the risk of defeat if we don’t.

With Mars-Saturn, we often seem to need to work harder, or at least smarter, and most likely in a very disciplined and controlled manner (Saturn). Too, if we do, and are able to endure and withstand any trials or hurdles that are put in our path, we may be rewarded with a golden victory.

The very last time that we had this identical aspect, Mars in Aries opposite Saturn in Libra, was back in late March of 1981. Interestingly, on March 29, 1981, the “London Marathon” debuted with 7500 runners.

Of course, most of us have all heard about how hard marathon runners have to train. This arduous training process is perhaps a perfect template for understanding the workings of this “Mars-Saturn” type energy. It’s not an aspect for wimps or quitters! Or for those hoping to coast by on their coattails.  Mars-Saturn characteristically appears to demand our best efforts.

The “London Marathon” is now reportedly one of the biggest running events in the world and is one of the five top world marathons that make up the World Marathon Majors. Too, this Mars-Saturn aspect is indelibly stamped in the horoscope of this annual event. Also, the day the London Marathon debuted, the empowering Sun was exactly conjunct energy planet Mars in Aries (Aries rules sports) for extra punch.

Besides the Mars-Saturn opposition today, we also have the Moon entering passionate Scorpio (2:20 am) maybe intensifying our emotions and desires. The Moon also makes a potent sextile to transforming Pluto in Capricorn (2:14 pm), Scorpio’s ruler. A good time possibly for instituting makeover projects, especially perhaps on the career front (Capricorn).
