Cosmic Weather:

Luna continues in diplomatic Libra today. She also remains in her Waxing Crescent phase presently displaying 30% illumination. This phase is a transitional period that starts after the New Moon and lasts until the First Quarter. Astrologically, this is perceived to be an excellent time to be laser-focused on advancing the intentions that we set during last week’s New Moon in Leo.

Luna squares Venus in Cancer this afternoon (1:54 pm). This more social aspect poises us to want to be around people we like, doing things that we enjoy. On the shadow side, our feelings and desires could conflict a bit with our relationships, which could possibly distort our perceptions. One way to perhaps neutralize or turn this around may be to listen to what others are saying instead of imagining things in our heads. Or we could simply ask for some clarification about what is being said.

The Moon in Libra’s trine to Saturn in Aquarius (6:28 pm) tends to redirect our focus and may find us seeking out moments of quiet reflection or solitude. We tend to be less dependent on others for our feelings of well-being or validation now because we are more attuned to our inner reserves of strength and security. Accordingly, it may be a very good time to evaluate our relationships and our relationship needs.

“The most painful thing is losing yourself in the process of loving someone too much, and forgetting that you are special too.” – Ernest Hemingway

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Cosmic Weather:

“Just as your car runs smoothly and requires less energy to go faster and farther when the wheels are in perfect alignment, you perform better when your thoughts, feelings, goals, and values are in balance.” – Brian Tracy

On this Jupiter-ruled Thursday, we find the Waxing Moon in agreeable Libra, a positive platform for attempting to inject more harmony and balance into our affairs as we continue to foster the development of our Cancerian New Moon intentions.

Luna’s flowing trine to Saturn Rx in Aquarius (3:18 pm) suggests leaning into the past for wisdom, relying on the tried-and-true, and chipping away at excess. Overall, this lunar aspect serves to provide us with a more realistic assessment of matters and also supports well-thought-out collaborative efforts that strive to benefit groups, group causes, or the collective as a whole.

The Moon’s square to subterranean Pluto in Capricorn (9:04 pm) may put us in touch with hidden elements, including our suppressed emotions, which may suddenly surface now for processing. While there’s a chance for some shiny gold to be mined here, a good measure of honesty and transparency may be required in order to obtain this special perk.

Vesta is also stationing retrograde today (5:30 pm) in Pisces. We may find ourselves questioning or reflecting upon something that has, up until now, perhaps been a rather steady focus or maybe even an inspiration to us. Vesta will go direct on October 5th.

Astrology October 14, 2020: The Waning Moon in Virgo

daily astrology, Moon in Virgo, Moon trine Pluto, Moon trine Saturn, President Reagan, The Supreme Court, Waning Moon phase

Cosmic Weather:

The late great Portuguese writer Joe Saramago once wrote: “Chaos is merely order waiting to be deciphered.” An insight that we may want to personally apply to our lives today as we have the Waning Crescent Moon in organizing Virgo dutifully at our beck and call for the duration. When Luna is in perfecting Virgo (an earth sign), our actions are motivated mainly by practical considerations. Also, the Waning lunar cycle is always excellent for wrapping or finishing things up, decluttering, de-weeding, cleaning closets, catching up on chores or menial tasks as we ready ourselves for the upcoming New Moon, which in this case, will be in Libra, on Friday.

The Moon in Virgo is also making flowing trines, this afternoon, to both perceptive Pluto (1:55 pm) and disciplined Saturn (6:47 pm) in the self-mastery sign of Capricorn, ideally allowing us to further zero in, more intensely, on what work needs to be done and how to go about it most efficiently. There may also be a greater ability or special finesse now in being able to locate hidden resources or to be able to refurbish/repurpose/refashion things for new uses. It’s also interesting, too, isn’t it, how we can sometimes suddenly perceive a matter or situation, even something seemingly minuscule in a whole new light and, as a result, our world can literally change or transform in an instant, for the better. Yet one more reason to never give up!

*All times EDT

On This Day in History: On October 14, 1980, Republican presidential candidate Ronald Reagan pledged on the campaign trail to appoint the first woman to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Astrologically, that day, the Sun was exactly conjunct transformational Pluto in Libra, which is the zodiacal sign that rules the Supreme Court. Sun-Pluto days can also often shine a spotlight on the subject of power and all of its many ramifications. Venus (governing women) was also in work-related Virgo and exactly quintile (a creative aspect) to change-oriented Uranus in breakthrough Scorpio. Venus-Uranus aspects are often associated with gender issues and especially issues of equality for women.

On July 7, 1981, President Reagan announced he would nominate Sandra Day O’Connor as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court to replace the retiring Potter Stewart.

Astrologically, on that day, expansive Jupiter and structuring Saturn were nearly exact conjunct in Libra and pioneering Mars, in decision-oriented Gemini, was trining Pluto in Libra. Mars-Pluto aspects are normally excellent for instituting pioneering, sweeping reforms that impact the masses. The Jupiter-Saturn influence also perhaps helping to grow things beyond the realm of existing protocols.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Astrology for January 15, 2019: Slowing Down With the Taurus Moon

“I wanted to call a time out, to demand that everybody just STOP until I could understand everything.” Elizabeth Gilbert

Being an early degree Aries Rising with a Taurus Sun, I’m used to lots of starts and stops in my life. Mostly self-initiated ones! Last week, for instance, I restarted this decade-old blog after taking a hiatus from it for nearly two years. With transiting Mars crossing my Ascendant (new beginnings), Jupiter transiting my ninth house (writing and publishing), and the January 5th Partial Eclipse falling in my Capricorn tenth house (professional ambitions), I decided all of a sudden, what the heck, I’ll just go ahead and give it another whirl. See what happens!

Anyway, the last few days I’ve been really feeling it! Feeling that universal Aries adrenaline rush that always goes hand in hand with putting something new into motion. Today, however, my aging physical form feels like it’s been put, quite literally, through the proverbial wringer! I clearly realize now, with pushback from the weary flesh, that, yes, even though it’s only been a few days, I’ve already been pressuring myself way too much with trying to get this astrology blog out to you on a daily basis. I’ve been blogging fresh from scratch, kinda like making homemade biscuits, without enough editing. A dangerous ingredient to leave out! And all because of that darn, spontaneous Aries rising again! 🙂

While journaling this morning, what also kept coming up for me is that I needed to do the Taurean Sun thing, once again, and methodically s-l-o-w myself down. That’s one of the things I love most about being a Taurus is the steady supply of self-preservation tips that I’m always seemingly receiving from my wise inner guru. Synchronistically, just now, too, my computer also crashed, just as I was writing all this down. And then, it just as mysteriously came back on with the following two-word message from Dell, written across the computer screen, “Please Wait.” I’m not kidding! Okay, okay, okay Universe! You win! You’ve got my attention! I’m s-l-o-w-i-n-g it down! 🙂

Today’s Moon in grounding, practical Taurus now is an excellent time for all of us to, perhaps, pause a bit and re-assess our situations. Especially if we’re feeling pooped or frazzled. To maybe just chill out a bit, and see if there’s possibly a better path for us to take to reach the elusive Capricorn mountain top! What’s immediately coming to mind here, too, is working smarter, not harder! Can I get an Amen to that? 🙂

Meanwhile, the waxing Taurus Moon’s trine to sustaining Saturn, in old age Capricorn, this afternoon (1:50 pm), is very good for any organizing and long-term planning efforts. The Moon’s sextile to intuitive Neptune also sensitizes us to the feelings of others (4:15 pm). It’s also a good time to go with our hunches. This evening, the Taurus Moon trines Mercury in Capricorn (8:30 pm). This aspect favors tending to paperwork, formal contract signings, and serious discussions. The entire day is generally supportive for business and financial dealings with the Taurus Moon governing possession and money matters. The sign Taurus has an innate need for comfort and security. Would probably be a good time to meet with someone like a financial planner and get all your ducks in a row!

Astrology September 27, 2015: Supermoon Eclipse in Aries

“Research suggests that people are typically unaware of the reasons why they are doing what they are doing, but when asked for a reason, they readily supply one.” Daniel Gilbert

Blood Moon, Night, Sky, Full, Moonlight

Today’s Energy:

The Supermoon “Blood Moon” Eclipse in “action-oriented” Aries (10:50 pm EDT) is an excellent chance for us to become clearer on “connecting the dots” between our actions and why we do the things we do. In theory, a seemingly easy enough task; but in practice, often much more complicated. One reason for this increased self-awareness now is because eclipses tend to spawn more inner illumination, similar to how a Full Moon allows us to see better in the night.

Too, at this time, we may experience epiphanies regarding the need to stop doing things from essentially a state of “mindlessness” without any real conviction or passion – or simply possibly because we want to fit in, please others, or preserve the status quo.

This Lunar Eclipse in Aries accentuates our desire for moving forward, independence, self-assertion, excitement, adventure, discovery, courageous action. Manifestations of “shadow behavior” could include acting impulsively, losing our temper, impatience, self-absorption, a low tolerance for failure or weakness, coming on too strong, engaging in bullying.

Some archetypes energized by this Eclipse: the hero, the warrior, the athlete, the race car driver, the pioneer, the entrepreneur.

Additionally, there may be greater awareness of how our actions (Aries) – or inactions, for that matter – have a corresponding ripple affect on our relationships, especially on our intimate, one-on-one encounters (Libra). With this lunation occurring on the Aries-Libra axis – with the Moon in Aries and the Sun in opposing Libra – we are seeking to balance the needs of “self” (Aries) with the needs of the “other” (Libra). Learning how to relate to others without losing our sense of self. The Aries Moon is more about unbridled self-expression while the Libra Sun is about cooperation or getting along with others. Also, if we go too far in either direction, we risk creating issues for ourselves.

In general, lunar eclipses signify culminations or turning points. They symbolize the building up of something that has to be released, just like how the Moon, in its waning stages, appears to give up its light. Over the course of the next couple of weeks, we will likely become clearer on exactly what it is that we need to let go of, so we can shine brightly again later. Right now, though, it’s very important that we just feel our emotions and see what “revelations” they have for us.

Because this eclipse is occurring at 4 degrees Aries-Libra, those who have planets or important points in their charts from 1 to 7 degrees of any of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, or Capricorn), will likely be most affected. Also, the house axis (or the areas of life) in which the lunation falls, will also be highly energized now.

Saturn, newly-installed in “philosophical” Sagittarius, is trining the Eclipse point, ideally lending maturity and wisdom to our actions now, as well emotional strength. The Eclipse ruler, Mars in Virgo, is also square to Saturn, further suggesting some cautiousness on our part.

Questions for Today: What are you discovering about yourself? About others? What has been your biggest challenge in dealing with people? What would your life look like if you had more self-confidence? How have you been living on autopilot?

In the News: Pope Francis wraps up his six-day stay in the U.S. with an outdoor Mass in Philadelphia, an event that attracts an estimated one-million people.

Astrology November 3, 2011: Mercury and Venus Trine Uranus

COSMIC WATCH:

The Moon sticks around for another day in “progressive” Aquarius, ideally poising us to be more accepting of change and also more detached with our emotions. She is also getting friendly backup by relationship Venus and thinker Mercury. Both of these planetary bodies are now situated in exploratory, truth-seeking Sagittarius, and both are exactly trine to innovative Uranus, the ruler of Aquarius.

When Venus and Uranus are aligned, we generally tend to be more free-spirited in our love or social lives, which can often translate into a desire to engage in exciting or thrilling new pastimes or adventures. Sometimes, too, we are more tempted to defy or ignore the rules of convention, with this influence, especially as they pertain to our romantic or social behavior, as Uranus governs the urge for freedom and individuality.

Too, on Venus-Uranus days, we often find issues concerning gay rights or sexual equality coming to the forefront of the collective. Fascinatingly, the late actress, Elizabeth Taylor, was also born on a day when Venus and Uranus were exactly conjunct in pioneering Aries and we all know about her tireless and heroic efforts for AIDS and equality issues, especially the latter portion of her life. She also had a striking, electrifying (Uranus) appearance and Venus affects one’s physical beauty and fashion. Accordingly, it might be a fun day for us to spice up our appearance or wardrobe in novel ways. BTW, the late Johnny Cash, also had the same Venus-Uranus conjunction and he always dressed in black to distinguish himself.

The Mercury trine Uranus aspect today is also helpful in connecting us with our inner genius or brilliance. It naturally primes us to think “outside of the box.” It can also facilitate our intuition, which Uranus governs, paving the way for sudden breakthroughs and plenty of “aha moments.” With Uranus additionally ruling technology it may be a good day to purchase new electronic gadgets or for figuring out matters of a technical nature.

Mercury also rules communication and deposited in articulate, idealistic Sadge, this may be a perfect time to sound off with a letter to the editor, or for airing our views or vision for the world in general. Sagittarius also rules politics and things seem to really be heating up now, in that arena, esp. on a Presidential campaign level in the U.S., with prior sexual harassment allegations against Herman Cain coming to light with the Venus (in sexual Scorpio) square Neptune aspect, at the start of the week. Neptune’s nebulous ray is often involved in scandals and smear campaigns.

Also today, the Aquarius Moon is making a positive trine to stabilizing Saturn in partnership Libra (1:06 pm EDT), the sign of the public. This influence can help to steady our relationships. It’s also a good time to roll out public relations campaigns or for trying diplomatic gestures.

“To say nothing, especially when speaking, is half the art of diplomacy. “ Will Durant

In the News: The G-20 economic summit kicks off today in Cannes, France, bringing together leaders from around the world, including President Obama from the U.S. and President Sarkozy of France. Interestingly, Venus rules money and finance, and Mercury governs meetings, and both are now newly deposited in Sagittarius, a sign associated with foreign travel and international dealings. Too, with Venus and Mercury both trine to brilliant Uranus, and the Moon in clear-thinking, strategizing Aquarius, perhaps some forward-thinking progress will be made on world economic issues. We can at least hope, that this will be the case. Of course, regarding our own personal money management, we may also want to institute some new moves or strategies today. Maybe also ferret out new ways to make money.

Financial News Update: NYTimes.com is reporting today (12:46 pm EDT) that the Greek Prime Minister is calling off the referendum on the Euro Bailout Plan, which likely will be a stabilizing factor for financial markets. Interesting that this news item is being reported, too, with the Moon’s harmonious trine to Saturn, which can again serve to steady things.

Entertainment News: Simon Cowell announced on the X-Factor last night that the program had been picked up for another season, much to his delight, especially since the show is, reportedly, his own brainchild. When the X-Factor debuted in the U.S. on Sept. 21st, adventurous Mars was at 2 degrees of entertainment Leo and exactly trine to Uranus in Aries, an excellent influence for a show trying to discover very original (Uranus) talent (Leo). Also, Simon’s announcement last night came with Mercury (rules news and announcements) and Venus (governs artists and performers) in Sagittarius and both exactly trining Uranus once again. Also, with both of these planets creating a very propitious grand trine with Mars and Uranus in the natal X-Factor horoscope. As an astrologer, it is always so fascinating to see how the cycles play out and to watch things come full circle.

Do you watch the X-Factor? Do you have a favorite artist on the show? I think Drew is my favorite, although all the performers are extremely talented. It would be fun to know all of their birth times and take a look at each of their natal horoscopes. I would also like to see L.A. Reid‘s chart, he is so dynamic and cool. I love watching his physical expressions on the show when he really gets immersed in the performances.

Enjoy your Thursday!

COSMIC WATCH:

There’s a willingness to tackle difficult issues this morning with the intellectual Gemini Moon’s harmonious trine to disciplined Saturn in relationship Libra (11:36 am EDT). This aspect supports team efforts, diplomacy, and is excellent for seeking out wise counsel. On the whole, Moon-Saturn tends to stabilize our affairs as Saturn symbolizes the urge for security.

Famous Birthdays: Mick Jagger turns 68 today! In his natal horoscope, Mick has abundant Jupiter ( talent and gifts) exactly conjunct transforming Pluto in theatrical Leo. Jupiter-Pluto suggests a plethora of talent especially in creative Leo. Pluto also rules the masses and his music and stage performances have rendered him an iconic figure.

Too, Pluto governs one’s personal sense of destiny and when it’s ray is activated in our charts we tend to feel that we have a “special mission to perform.” This is the case even with transits of Pluto to important points in our charts. Of course, Mick must surely feel that it was his “destiny” to be a rock star, don’t you think? He also has his Sun, Mercury and Mars near his Jupiter-Pluto conjunction, a powerful stellium in “performer Leo.”

Do you feel that you are living out your “true destiny?”

COSMIC WATCH:

“The Moon shuts off the beams of the Sun as it passes across it, and darkens so much of the earth as the breath of the blue-eyed Moon amounts to.” Empedocles

The New Moon today at 11 degrees of communicative, idea-minded Gemini (5:03 pm EDT) is also a Solar Eclipse. It is the first of three eclipses that we will be having over the course of the next month (the others are June 15th and July 1st). While a New Moon symbolizes new beginnings, a Solar Eclipse denotes endings, so we will be experiencing a mix of both here.

Eclipses are traditionally viewed in astrology as potentially high-impact events with their influence lasting for up to six months, although the “biggest pop” from them often occurs right when they happen, or within a few days before or after the event. In my own life, for instance, I have had major events happen on eclipse days, so I have learned to dole out to them a healthy level of respect and reverence.

We also need to be mindful of the house (or area of life) in our personal horoscope that this Solar Eclipse is falling in, to get a greater awareness for its meaning and possible impact, as that sphere of life is being highly activated now. Also, very importantly, we need to note whether or not the lunation is making aspects to other planets or to important angles (ASC, MC) in our chart. If it is, chances are good that we will be feeling more of the potency of the Eclipse. Especially sensitized now are planets or points in the chart at 8 to 14 degrees of the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces).

Today’s lunation is harmoniously trine to responsible, stabilizing Saturn, with Saturn representing the safety or security urge, so it could be that overall conditions in our lives may improve, that we are able to advance or forge ahead, to some degree, or that some of our pet projects may finally be able to gain traction. We may also just feel more self-confident about our ability to handle difficult or problematic situations now, as Saturn can give us firm resolve and determination, which, at the end of the day, can be a huge thing (“As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he,” from the Book of Proverbs).

Saturn is also in partnership Libra, the sign of diplomacy and also where it is exalted, suggesting the period ahead may be constructive for effectively broaching our more serious (Saturn) relationship issues, including discussing perhaps matters of commitment. (On a collective level, this Eclipse may also be a very good period for attempts at waging diplomacy between countries.)

It may also be an especially good time for having “boundary-type (Saturn) discussions” (Gemini) in which we detail to others what our needs and wants are within the confines of our relationships (Libra), in an effort to have more meaningful, healthy unions that function better. Saturn, on the whole, is concerned with matters of self-preservation, fortifying our positions, and creating practical efficiencies, and these things are often achieved through honest, serious confrontations, in which we speak the truth. Discerning Saturn helps foster within us a more mature, insightful outlook, as well as bestowing a modicum of wisdom and caution based on our experiences.

The lunation in communicator Gemini also helps to kindle a sincere desire for discussion, learning, and sharing our thoughts and ideas, and it can also inspire brilliance within us. Mercury, the ruler of Gemini, will also be exiting slower, more deliberate Taurus for Gemini, the day after this Eclipse, which should also help to boost or speed up our cognitive abilities.

Saturn has also been retrograde since January but is getting ready to move direct in Libra on June 12th, another indicator that we may be able to leap forward with our goals, especially in the relationship realm, after, hopefully, knowing more about  what we want for ourselves (Saturn retrograde is a time of reflection). If we are also seeking to expand our scope of close relationships, or business ties, Saturn’s enabling ray may be a positive factor in helping attract to us more anchoring type individuals who help us to feel more grounded. Saturn specifically denotes older, more experienced type persons, or at least, more serious types.

In some cases, too, today’s Eclipse may set the stage for the pruning away (Saturn) of ties (and situations) that are no longer needed, or that have run their natural course. Of course, sometimes these relationships can also come to an end against our wishes.

Perhaps a positive assist and inspiration here for dealing with any difficult endings or transitions now is the flexible Gemini Moon itself, which helps to give us greater adaptability with respect to coping with change. The intellectual Moon in Gemini is less weighed down by emotional baggage and has a much easier time detaching from its feelings (the trine to Saturn also again helps us to psychologically pare down).

Gemini perpetually seeks out new experiences as new options for growth. In the body, Gemini fittingly rules the lungs and the breath. The constant inhaling and exhaling process perfectly depicts the restless, curious, interactive nature of this sign, and also addresses and showcases how many of us may be feeling now with this Eclipse, that we must keep moving, taking in new sights and new ideas, exhaling yesterday’s experiences, viewpoints and opinions, as old news, no longer relevant.

In general, today’s Solar Eclipse in “I think” Gemini is a big boon for any writing, reading, or research projects, as Gemini loves disseminating and collecting information. It also favors public speaking engagements, stand up comedy acts, travel (especially short trips), involvement in social media activities, events with siblings, taking or teaching new classes, learning new languages, expanding our vocabulary, purchasing phone equipment, and attending to transportation (Gemini) matters.

Famous people with Moon in Gemini: Bette Davis, Roseanne Barr, George Carlin, Goldie Hawn, Fred Astaire, Gwyneth Paltrow.

NEWS UPDATE: Interestingly, on the eve of this Gemini Eclipse, a big communication (Gemini) news story has just come out about cell phones and how they may possibly cause brain cancer. The World Health Organization (WHO) said some cell phones are as dangerous as lead and engine exhaust. The FCC and FDA, however, say they are safe. (From KABC Los Angeles, link to story down below).

Also, more communications news: Today Sprint Nextel Corp reportedly filed a petition with the FCC to block AT&T and T-Mobile USA’s merger plans (bizjournals.com)

Enjoy this exciting Eclipse Day! Set powerful intentions.

Astrology May 5, 2011: “Conservative Approach” Gemini Moon Trine Saturn

COSMIC WEATHER:

“A conservative believes nothing should be done for the first time.” Thomas Fuller

Despite the fact that we continue with five planets in “act first, think later” Aries, the appearance of cautious Saturn, on the scene today, via the cerebral Gemini Moon’s trine to it (11:39 am EDT), makes the case for adopting a more conservative approach to life’s daily challenges. Saturn, denoting the “safety urge,” prefers to stick to the “tried-and-true” instead of going out on a shaky limb. Can you see where a more serious or conservative style might further your cause now?

Famous Taurus Birthdays May 5th: Michael Moriarty (70), late Tammy Wynette (71)

In The News: President Barack Obama is slated to lay a wreath at ‘Ground Zero’ today. He will also be meeting privately with victims’ family members, and reportedly meeting with members of the FDNY and NYPD and Port Authority to “thank them for their sacrifice.” The Gemini Moon’s trine today to respectful, stoic Saturn, in diplomatic Libra, is a fitting backdrop for this more solemn occasion. Aries is also the sign of law enforcement and firefighters, and with the placement of five planets in Aries now, those brave souls are also symbolically depicted here in the energy of the day.

COSMIC WEATHER:

“It has bothered me all my life that I do not paint like everybody else.” Henri Matisse

The Moon is in individualistic Aquarius all day, encouraging us to celebrate and revel in our own personal brand, while at the same time urging us to make a positive contribution to the collective. Too, due to the airy, detached nature of Aquarius, the Moon here also potentially supplies us with more objectivity for dealing with our feelings. The Aquarius Moon is also innovative, so it is a great day to be curious. To ask questions. To see if there is a novel way to improve upon the existing protocol.

The experimental Aquarian Moon energy also adds positive support to the cartel of five planets in enterprising Aries, a sign that is largely focused on the matter of its own self-discovery, and proving itself through bold action. The Moon’s harmonious trine to stabilizer Saturn in relationship Libra (1:46 pm EDT) also helps to get us solid backing and endorsement from others for whatever worthy causes we might want to spearhead today.

“What is not started today is never finished tomorrow.” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
