Cosmic Weather:

“Think for yourself and let others enjoy the privilege of doing so too.” Voltaire

Sun in Gemini quinqunx Jupiter Rx in Capricorn, 3:33 am: While we may feel uncomfortable in the face of beliefs or convictions that are contrary to our own or that we do not understand, exposing ourselves to other viewpoints or philosophies could bring some teachable moments that serve to not only stretch our perceptions but also possibly raise our level of tolerance. On the shadow side, exaggerated confidence or arrogance could find us glossing over or dismissing details.

Waning Moon Enters Taurus, 5:35 am: With Luna in the sign of the bull, there is more of an innate need for security, stability, and consistency as well as a greater affinity for pleasures of the physical plane.

Venus Retrograde in Gemini trine Juno in Libra, 6:07 am: Ideally helps us to express ourselves and listen to others in a more balanced or cooperative manner. This can be a favorable time to review or revisit partnership agreements.

*All times EDT.

On This Day in History:  On June 16, 2015, TV personality and real estate mogul Donald Trump launched his campaign for the Republican nomination for US President. He made his announcement at the lavish Trump Towers on Fifth Avenue in New York.

Interestingly, in the stars, that day, there was a New Moon in opinionated Gemini that was almost exactly conjunct fiery, self-assertive Mars (one-degree). New Moons, of course, provide momentum for new beginnings. Too, with warrior Mars conjunct both the Sun and Moon in Gemini, there was inexhaustible energy for communication. The Sun also rules power and authority and often when it is conjunct Mars we are clued or alerted for changes in leadership.

Also, expansive Jupiter was in pompous, kingly Leo and exactly trine unconventional Uranus in Aries. The Jupiter-Uranus trine here could symbolize, among other things, exposure to a perspective or philosophy that is unusual or unique (if not a bit flashy or theatrical). Jupiter-Uranus energy also tends to push the limits and can often be quite controversial.

Hope it’s a good one! Be safe and well.

Cosmic Weather:

“The best kind of happiness is a habit you’re passionate about.” Shannon Adler

This is an excellent day for engaging in or building upon those reliable daily practices, habits, or rituals that are positively sustaining for us or help us to feel grounded or rooted like a solid old oak tree. (Moon in Taurus trines Jupiter, Mercury, and the Sun in Capricorn and sextiles Neptune in Pisces.)

There’s also a potential for assuaging wounds or generating healing by seeking out fresh pathways that lead to greater understanding, particularly on a philosophical level. (Mars in Sagittarius trine Chiron in Aries.)

Tarot Card For The Day: The Knight of Pentacles suggests a “reigning-in” or “conserving” of our energy and resources today, even though the sheer presence of the Knight also indicates that we do, indeed, have the ability to hold our own or defend our interests if need be.

Numerologically: January fifth is a “5” day denoting flexibility and or resiliency.

Born On This Day: Indian spiritual teacher and writer Paramahansa Yogananda. He once wrote: Let my soul smile through my heart and my heart smile through my eyes, that I may scatter rich smiles in sad hearts.

Hope it’s a good one!

COSMIC WATCH:

“Shoot for the moon.  Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.” –  Les Brown

The enterprising Aries Moon gets favorable assist today from its energetic ruler Mars, situated in security-oriented Cancer, and also expansive Jupiter, busy ringing up the cash register in money bags Taurus. Both of these heavenly bodies are harmoniously sextile to each other helping to fire up our enthusiasm and propel us at warp speed toward our goals. We are more optimistic about our future, but still have a goodly amount of practical bearings about us. A positive day to wage heroic efforts to stabilize and or upgrade our humble lot in life.

Looking back, too, we find that the last time that we had Mars in Cancer sextile Jupiter in Taurus was in September of 1964. This motivating and inspiring influence was exact on September 10th, that year, the very same day that the African Development Bank was founded. This financial institution was created for the purpose of fostering economic and social development in Africa. The bank reportedly has a public-mandate to reduce poverty through sustainable development. Fascinatingly, Jupiter governs the banking industry. It also tries to act as a goodwill ambassador, whenever it can.

Additionally, Jupiter rules foreigners and on September 10, 1964, Germany reportedly received its 1,000,000th foreign worker. How about that! Another cool astrological tie-in.

Enjoy your Thursday! Go get ’em!

COSMIC WATCH:

There’s a willingness to tackle difficult issues this morning with the intellectual Gemini Moon’s harmonious trine to disciplined Saturn in relationship Libra (11:36 am EDT). This aspect supports team efforts, diplomacy, and is excellent for seeking out wise counsel. On the whole, Moon-Saturn tends to stabilize our affairs as Saturn symbolizes the urge for security.

“The only real security that a man can have in this world is a reserve of knowledge, experience and ability.” Henry Ford

Famous Birthdays: Mick Jagger turns 68 today! In his natal horoscope, Mick has abundant Jupiter ( talent and gifts) exactly conjunct transforming Pluto in theatrical Leo. Jupiter-Pluto suggests a plethora of talent especially in creative Leo. Pluto also rules the masses and his music and stage performances have rendered him an iconic figure.

Too, Pluto governs one’s personal sense of destiny and when it’s ray is activated in our charts we tend to feel that we have a “special mission to perform.” This is the case even with transits of Pluto to important points in our charts. Of course, Mick must surely feel that it was his “destiny” to be a rock star, don’t you think? He also has his Sun, Mercury and Mars near his Jupiter-Pluto conjunction, a powerful stellium in “performer Leo.”

Do you feel that you are living out your “true destiny?”

“Lose your dreams and you might lose your mind.” Mick Jagger

Enjoy your Tuesday! Happy birthday, Mick! We love you!

Astrology April 20, 2011: Sun Enters Taurus, Sun Sextiles Neptune

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Each of us seems to have a main focus, a particular idea of practicality – a concept of ‘what we want out of life’ against which we judge our experiences.” Jane Roberts

The illuminating Sun, denoting our spirit, enters earthy Taurus today (6:18 am EDT), the sign of money and possessions (where it will stay for the next month).  The Sun in Taurus imbues us with a more practical focus and greater desire for stability.

The anchoring Taurus Sun also forms an interesting sextile to dreamy Neptune in oceanic Pisces. So, it could be that we are able to manifest (Taurus) some of our dreams (Neptune) today. Too, even though the Sun is now in tangible, down-to-earth Taurus, the Sun’s soothing linkup with spiritual guru Neptune helps to provide a certain mystical or reflective quality to this day.

The Moon’s entrance into visionary Sagittarius (2:51 am EDT) also serves to sort of reiterate this “transcendent” theme. Sagittarius the Archer encourages us to “reach for the stars” and broaden our horizons through travel, philosophy, higher education, religion. Lest we forget, too, we still have four planets in fiery, adventurous Aries with Love Goddess Venus also moving into that sign tomorrow.

In the News: Perhaps fittingly, with the Sun’s sextile to Neptune bringing “sea-worthy” things to mind, we are also poignantly marking the one-year anniversary of the BP oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history.

A year ago today, taskmaster Saturn at 29 degrees of Virgo (Virgo oversees the management of resources) was in a tight opposition to unpredictable Uranus at 28 degrees of Pisces (Pisces rules both the sea and oil). This opposition aspect can often be a more “disruptive” influence, especially when we do not “play by the rules (Uranus).” Saturn was also forming a challenging quinqunx aspect to confusing Neptune (the ruler of Pisces) at 28 degrees of Aquarius.

Saturn is often billed as the “Lord of Karma.” It is the planet of accountability and responsibility (it also symbolically represents the Earth). When we have more difficult Saturn influences we often experience the more challenging consequences of our actions (reaping our karma, in other words). Here in the case of the oil spill, BP has also reportedly acknowledged that serious errors were made leading up to the disaster (the ‘tried and true” Saturn protocol was not maintained).

Famous Birthdays April 20th: Ryan O’Neal (70), Jessica Lange (62). Also, my late dog, Coco (depicted below), would have been 15 years old today, so it’s kind of a sad day for me. Coco died two years ago. The latter portion of her life, she was blind, deaf and diabetic, but she never seemed to let any of that get her down. She was a real trooper (had an Aries Moon.) She was perhaps the gentlest animal I ever had. I miss her every day. Love you, Coco Puff! Your mama’s thinking about you.
