“The best kind of happiness is a habit you’re passionate about.” Shannon Adler
This is an excellent day for engaging in or building upon those reliable daily practices, habits, or rituals that are positively sustaining for us or help us to feel grounded or rooted like a solid old oak tree. (Moon in Taurus trines Jupiter, Mercury, and the Sun in Capricorn and sextiles Neptune in Pisces.)
There’s also a potential for assuaging wounds or generating healing by seeking out fresh pathways that lead to greater understanding, particularly on a philosophical level. (Mars in Sagittarius trine Chiron in Aries.)
Tarot Card For The Day: The Knight of Pentacles suggests a “reigning-in” or “conserving” of our energy and resources today, even though the sheer presence of the Knight also indicates that we do, indeed, have the ability to hold our own or defend our interests if need be.
Numerologically: January fifth is a “5” day denoting flexibility and or resiliency.
Born On This Day: Indian spiritual teacher and writer Paramahansa Yogananda. He once wrote: Let my soul smile through my heart and my heart smile through my eyes, that I may scatter rich smiles in sad hearts.

(Venus in Taurus trines Pluto Retrograde in Capricorn)
Today’s insightful Venus-Pluto trine (11:41 pm) potentially serves to make us more aware of what it is that we genuinely value or desire in our lives. It is as if the layers are peeled back now and we are able to see what we must have – or what is non-negotiable for us – in order to feel an internal/external sense of richness/safety/security. Correspondingly, there may also be a greater focus on solidifying, strengthening, or deepening our roots/connections/attachments.
Additionally, Venus-Pluto can also ignite our passions as well as unleash or invite more healing forms of energy. Venus-Pluto is often associated with “breathing new life” into old relationships. It might also be a good time to get our finances in order, or to commune with nature.
(Balsamic Moon)
The Waning Moon is in its Balsamic (Dark) Phase, entering communicative Gemini (at 7:47 am). This Lunar period is best for wrapping up or finishing things, and for rest or renewal, in preparation for tomorrow’s New Moon in Gemini.

Question for Today: What is something that you are “non-negotiable” about?
Famous June 2 Birthdays: Marquis de Sade, Johnny Weissmuller, Charlie Watts, Kyle Petty, Rachel Ray, Dana Garvey
“Conversation, like certain portions of the anatomy, always runs more smoothly when lubricated.” Marquis de Sade
On This Day in History: On June 2, 1875, Alexander Graham Bell (b. March 3, 1847) makes the first sound transmission. (Bell was a Scottish-born scientist, inventor, engineer, and innovator who is credited with inventing and patenting the first practical telephone. He also founded the American Telephone and Telegraph Company in 1885.)
Astrologically, on June 2, 1875, the Sun was in “communications-guru” Gemini, at 11 degrees, and exactly sextiling inventive Uranus, at 11 degrees of creative, authoritative Leo. Pioneering Mars was also retrograde in Capricorn and in a tight opposition (within one degree) to Mercury in Cancer (Mercury rules telephones and communication and the sign of Gemini).
Meanwhile, energizing Mars was also transiting Graham’s 10th house of career (on June 2nd), and also sextile (within one degree) his natal Saturn (Saturn is not only the natural ruler of the tenth house, it can also represent our individual accomplishments/contributions to the culture).
Finally, Mercury in Cancer at 4 degrees was also exactly trining Bell’s Saturn at 4 degrees of imaginative Pisces. Mercury-Saturn energy can solidify or be foundational for communications. It also can symbolize scientific breakthroughs and enhanced powers of concentration.

“Within ourselves, there are voices that provide us with all the answers that we need to heal our deepest wounds, to transcend our limitations, to overcome our obstacles or challenges, and see where our soul is longing to go.” Debby Ford
The nature of our thoughts or thinking can impact our ability for self-healing in a positive, liberating way today as Mars in cerebral Gemini forms a waxing sextile to Chiron in self-focused Aries (11:39 pm).
This opportunity aspect can motivate us, or inspire us, to look at old issues or vulnerabilities with fresh eyes, new strategies, new spins. Included here, in the process, might be the active gathering/sharing of information, opinions, and viewpoints; a non-tangible arsenal that serves to fortify us, stimulate us, and get us ready and eager for the next step of our journey. Mars in Gemini often finds it much easier to change or alter its course as new information is made available.
Changing, modifying, or tweaking the physical world around us, including visiting new sites or locations, can also be quite cathartic now. Kind of like when we’ve been holed up in the house, for a couple days, maybe during a snowstorm or something, and then when we’re finally able to get out, we feel like a brand new person, with a much better attitude.

The Moon’s monthly shift into organizing and purifying Virgo (10:42 am EDT) is our merry little cue to put more order and cleanliness in our lives. Refurbishing or renovating projects are also encouraged with the Virgo Moon’s magical trine to transforming Pluto (7:28 pm EDT) in goal-oriented Capricorn. Moon-Pluto is potentially very healing energy as well. Also, it is outstanding for arriving at sudden, emotional breakthroughs, partly because Pluto aligns us with our subconscious side. Later, the Moon’s harmonious trine to expansive Jupiter, in self-indulgent Taurus (8:56 pm EDT), gives us a green light to engage in all manner of self-pampering. This influence can also help to put us in a more jovial, lighthearted mood.
One possible storm cloud on the horizon today: Lovable Venus in passionate Scorpio is forming a 135-degree linkup with free-spirited Uranus in spontaneous Aries. Venus-Uranus often equates with our wanting to do our own thing, regardless of the costs. Of course, engaging in that type of behavior always carries corresponding risks. This influence can also incline us to seek out more unusual recreational or social outlets, perhaps as a sure flight from boredom.

“Jealousy is that pain which a man feels from the apprehension that he is not equally beloved by the person whom he entirely loves.” Joseph Addison
The Moon remains in diplomatic Libra, however, she may have to perform double-duty to keep things copasetic today. This is because we have sweet Venus, the ruler of relationships and romance, opposed to intense Pluto. Pluto stands guard over our subconscious, with Venus-Pluto often acting as a conduit for channeling our deeper, more complex emotions.
Too, often what we keep buried inside, can have a darker or more primitive vibration to it, as it hasn’t yet had a chance to be fully processed by our conscious awareness. On the shadow side, Venus-Pluto has been linked with feelings of jealousy, manipulation, suspicion, and obsession, with Pluto also governing our urge for power and control.
If we feel toxic emotions rising to the surface now, instead of instinctively acting on them, we may be better off trying to probe and figure out why they are there in the first place. Venus-Pluto can be very healing in that it can help us arrive at a fresh awareness and understanding and then, accordingly, help us to purge from our behavior whatever is unhealthy.
Also, this aspect can be positive for “clearing the air” with others, as long as we do so in a manner that does not unduly invite resentment and anger. Hopefully, that is where the “polite” Libra Moon can come to our friendly assist today. Too, a good day to remember to, “make peace, not war.”
Enjoy your Friday!

“He who controls others may be powerful, but he who has mastered himself is mightier still.”Lao Tzu
The Moon vacates self-indulgent Taurus for chatterbox Gemini (3:57 am EDT) quickening the pace of our responses and also making us keen on wanting to articulate our feelings with just about anybody who will give us five minutes.
We may even be willing to share some of our innermost, personal secrets today, as we have the illuminating Sun forming an opposition to “spy who loves me” Pluto (Pluto governs spies and espionage). Mysterious Pluto presides over our subconscious and when his shadowy ray is activated, we often “spill the beans” (purge) on private matters from A to Z. Too, the chatty Gemini Moon is more than happy to assist us here. 🙂
Sun-Pluto can be a very healing and transforming influence (Pluto rules rebirth), as it can serve to shine a light on certain things about ourselves, our motivations, etc., that we were previously unaware of, including suddenly making us aware of inner strengths or resources that we never knew we had before. Pluto rules the study of psychology and psychiatry.
When the Sun and Pluto are paired together, issues of power and control also tend to arise. Much of the time with this aspect, we are wanting more of both of these things. Too, because Pluto is connected with the hidden side of our nature, our darker impulses may manifest and we may be tempted to act in ways that could be described as more primitive. For instance, we may get more defensive and interpret things around us in more of a hostile or threatening manner, especially with the Sun in self-protective Cancer.
Again, the best antidote for any of this more unenlightened type behavior, is simply practicing self-awareness and keeping mindful of our mannerisms and inner stirrings. We also would be very wise to adopt more of a cooperative stance when dealing with others today versus unleashing our inner, unruly child.
IN THE NEWS: On the eve of this Sun-Pluto aspect being exact, late yesterday, Illinois Governor, Rod Blagojevich, was found guilty of corruption and trying to sell President Obama’s Senate Seat. He could receive 20 years in prison. On the shadow side, Sun-Pluto reigns over corruption, manipulation, and misuse of power. Pluto is also in Capricorn, the sign of government officials.
On a more uplifting note, Rep. Gabrielle Gifford, also made her first, official, public appearance in six months, late yesterday, at a NASA event in Houston, with her astronaut husband, Mark Kelly. Gifford was shot in the head back in January during a mass shooting in Arizona. Her public appearance yesterday was certainly a more positive manifestation of this same Sun-Pluto energy. Too, with this influence, we often get a chance to see or witness things that have been hidden from view for a while. Gifford has been making a miraculous recovery from her injuries, again a testament to her own indomitable spirit and Pluto’s healing, transformational ray.

The Moon’s ingress into pioneering Aries (4:24 am EDT) stokes our desire for new adventures. The Moon’s conjunction with change-agent Uranus (1:24 pm EDT) also acts to propel us into the future and potentially provides us with more of a platform to “do our own thing,” which the Aries Moon is already very receptive to doing. Rebel Uranus is associated with individuality and non-conformity. It encourages us not to render cookie-cutter responses, so this alignment can be very refreshing and rejuvenating for us, if we are but willing to be our true, authentic selves.
Later on, possible resistance from others to our plans, in the guise of the Moon’s square to controlling Pluto (5:08 pm EDT), in authoritative Capricorn, may have us wanting to retreat back to our Cancerian Sun “crab shells.” This may, indeed, be a very good time to go inside ourselves and examine our behavior and see if there is maybe something that we can either fix or purge (Pluto) that will help us to reunite more with our own sense of power, so we will feel less threatened or bothered by things external to us in the future.
Moon-Pluto can make us stronger by eliminating what is weaker or dead weight within us. Pluto governs the subconscious, and Pluto is always very ready to confer upon us deep insight, if we are willing to work with it. Moon-Pluto can be a very effective cathartic or healing agent. This configuration is also linked with actual surgery.
What would you like to reform or change about yourself? Anything?
Celebrity News: Actor George Clooney and girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis have reportedly split up after a two-year courtship. George (born 5/6/61) has transiting Saturn in Libra in his 7th house of partnerships now opposing his “love goddess” Venus in Aries in his first house of new beginnings.
This is, unfortunately, a textbook divorce or separation aspect. This is partly because Venus-Saturn often tends to make us feel “cut off” from others (Saturn inhibits our expression). Then, of course, when we get to feeling this way, we often end up erecting even more walls around us, which is not favorable or conducive for romance.
Too, this Venus-Saturn aspect can also simply indicate, that we have outgrown a relationship and that it is, indeed, time to move on, as Saturn does equate with natural endings and Venus rules relationships. Sometimes, too, with this influence, our ambitions and goals for ourselves, which are also denoted by Saturn, come in conflict with our relationship needs and we have no choice but to make certain adjustments in our lives. Either certain goals and ambitions go, or the relationships go, etc. Too, I am only talking in a general sense here about this aspect. I have no idea what, in reality, led to George’s breakup.
With that said, George’s horoscope also suggests that he tends to be a very private and emotionally guarded person, to begin with, as he has his Moon, ruling his feelings and women, tightly conjunct his Saturn in Capricorn, the sign that Saturn rules. In general, this more complex configuration makes it easier for a person to live by themselves (bachelor), as they naturally don’t feel so compelled to share their innermost feelings with others. A large part of why we have romantic relationships is to share what we are feeling inside.
Plus, being a famous actor, he does have ample opportunity to vent his feelings on a world stage, vicariously playing different roles, and that may be enough emoting for him. Too, being so famous, he also probably needs to be a little defensive, at times, with others, to curb exploitation, gossip, etc. At any rate, I would think that Moon conjunct Saturn would despise living a fish bowl type of existence, and would vie for as much privacy as possible. George does have his assertive Mars in colorful, theatrical Leo, though, too, so he does know how to confidently handle himself and his affairs, and people will like him regardless. That planetary influence helps to make him very charismatic, especially with Mars in his fifth house of self-expression.
George’s Venus in flirtatious, “conquest-oriented” Aries, also suggests that he requires plenty of freedom in romance, and that he also ideally does best with a partner who is very independent like himself. I also, unfortunately, don’t have Elisabetta’s birth chart to see what she has going on at the moment. Anyway, I wish both of them well. Breakups are never any fun.
Enjoy your Thursday! Too, don’t be afraid to “do your own thing!” Remember, we are receiving that high-voltage prompting from Moon-Uranus today. We may even want to put on the hippie beads and bell bottoms. 🙂

“How much has to be explored and discarded before reaching the naked flesh of feeling?”Claude Debussy
On February 22nd, Mars, symbolizing the aggressive urge, dives into emotional Pisces (8:06 pm EST), where it will, no doubt, try to make a big splash over the next six weeks. It is characteristically the nature of Mars to “stir things up,” as he represents our physical energy and ignites our passions, although when he is submerged underwater in Pisces, much of his “fire” is put out.
But, lest we get fooled by warrior Mars here, he can still be a barracuda! But, generally, he prefers to avoid direct confrontation in Pisces, if at all possible. Mars in Pisces also tends more toward passive aggressive behavior, or misplaced aggression.
However, with all that said, this time around, we still do have a lot of fiery “martian” energy at our disposal now, because expansive Jupiter is deposited in potent Mars-ruled Aries, actually in mutual reception with Mars, as Jupiter co-rules Pisces. Too, Jupiter is, and has been for the last few weeks, in a powerful square to obsessive Pluto (exact on Friday) which can make us more bent on pursuing unrestricted, “new beginnings” (Aries) with a heated fervor.
Too, Aries is associated with war and revolution, and we have witnessed all the unrest, demonstrations, and standoffs in the world the past few weeks. Mars has also been boldly empowering group expression in “power to the people” Aquarius. Also, rebellious Uranus is poised to enter Aries on March 11th for a seven-year stay, so the political landscape could very well continue to change in many nations during this time period. Freedom-loving Uranus in Aries will likely coincide with continued uprisings by individuals on a pioneering, self-developing quest to “do their own thing” (Uranus). Aries is more of a fearless sign, also it’s very impulsive and often acts way too hasty without giving enough thought to the consequences of its actions.
It is interesting, too, that with the opportunistic Jupiter square tyrannical Pluto, almost exact to the dot now, Libya’s long-time despotic ruler (Pluto), Muammar Qaddafi, may finally be ousted in wake of the mass revolt. Sadly, we have also seen many tragic massacres in Libya the last few days as the planets have moved into Pisces, which is more associated with persecution.
Too, it is wise to always note whenever Mars changes zodiacal signs. It is at those times when Mars enters a new sign that we often collectively see very notable or pivotal things occurring with respect to “Mars-ruled” matters: aggression, war, adventurous new beginnings, discoveries or breakthroughs. Then, of course, we need to add the elements or things associated with the sign that Mars is going through.
Pisces, for example, rules the sea and oil. Oil is spiking upwards due to the unrest in the Middle East. We may all want to keep a very close eye on oil with volatile Mars moving into Pisces. When Chiron entered Pisces last year was the very day we had the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Mars will also be exactly conjunct Chiron on February 24th (the energy is already applying), so this could be a critical time period for the planet. BTW, it was reported yesterday that BP reached a 7.2 billion dollar oil and gas deal with India on Monday.
Too, as I am writing this, a seemingly big news story is unfolding about the Suez Canal. Reportedly Iranian Naval Vessels have entered the canal. Warrior Mars in Pisces could, unfortunately, symbolize hostile conditions at sea, or around water.
News Update: It was also reported today that the four Americans taken hostage by Somali pirates a few days ago off East Africa were shot and killed today by their captors. (The Americans were first taken hostage with the Mercury-Mars-Neptune triple conjunction a few days ago.)
On a more uplifting note, we also have the Academy Awards on Sunday and Pisces rules films and acting.
Mars in Pisces is indeed a very imaginative placement for the “red planet,” if not the most creative place for it. Mars here often has a deep passion and talent for art, music, dancing, acting, film, photography. For example, Elton John, an Aries, who we mentioned the other day as someone with Mercury in Pisces, also has his Mars in Pisces.
Too, there is usually a greater desire for retreat and seclusion from the world with Mars in Pisces, as a way of recharging our batteries. Mars in retiring Pisces also normally denotes more of an affinity for mystical or spiritual pursuits, and can also give a gift for healing. Many people in the healing field have a notable presence of Pisces planets (or a strong Neptune) in their horoscopes.
Romantically, Mars in Pisces tends to be fantasy-driven and very sensual, so we will definitely want to clear our calendars to make sure that we do have plenty of time for steamy, nocturnal pastimes. 🙂
The shadow side of Mars in Pisces: There can be indecisiveness, disillusionment, extremism (especially religious fanaticism). Too much of an immersion into fantasy or idealism. Also, Pisces is linked with drug and alcohol abuse. Of course, there is also more opportunity for deception, or simply more chance for weird, nebulous things to happen (due to Mars being in Neptune’s “spacey” home turf). Pisces also rules private sects and cults. Also, there may be more of a willingness to voluntarily play the “victim” or “martyr” role.
Too, with Pisces being more of a “selfless” or “ego-denying” sign, we ideally progress now by doing more for others than for ourselves, especially more for persons who are downtrodden, disabled, or down on their luck for whatever reason. Mars in Pisces can be very compassionate and charitable. We also have the Sun, Mercury, Uranus, and Chiron in Pisces now, so we have a notable Pisces vibration going on. Invisible energy that is hopefully imploring us to remember to kindly give each other a helping hand, or a comforting shoulder to cry on. The Pisces energy perennially sensitizes us to other people’s pain and struggle. We become more acutely aware of the fragility of life and the fleetingness, or even desperateness, of the human condition.
“Compassion is not religious business, it is human business, it is not luxury, it is essential for our own peace and mental stability, it is essential for human survival.”Dalai Lama
“Sweet baby” James is a Pisces. He’s a perfect template for all of the more noble, magical qualities of the sign, isn’t he? Love him.

“Coming to terms with the fear of death is conducive to healing, positive personality transformation, and consciousness evolution.” Stanislav Grof
With retrograde Mercury (mind) conjunct energizing Mars and regenerating Pluto in achievement Capricorn, we are likely feeling the need to stretch or extend ourselves today.
It may be crucial for us to seek out personally transforming activities (Pluto) now, that help us to grow beyond our normal boundaries, or that help us to redefine ourselves (Pluto). There may also be a real need or desire to pioneer and blaze new trails (Mars). This may especially be the case on the career or professional front (Capricorn).
Our thoughts and ideas (Mercury) also have more of an intensity and focus to them now. We are more capable of strategic thinking and planning, and our capacity for understanding is also deeper (Pluto). We are, correspondingly, better able to figure out riddles, and solve problems and mysteries.
It could be, too, that we learn about new information that has major impact for our lives, or hear about things that have previously been hidden (Pluto). Pluto governs spying, espionage, and leaks. Pluto also represents what is buried or hidden inside of us at the deepest levels, the reservoir of previous experiences that we have submerged. What we have suppressed, or pushed down inside of us, may be rising to the surface now, as Pluto rules the process of elimination and with Mars, this elimination process is activated. We purge ourselves of what we no longer need, so that we have room for new growth and evolution. Pluto governs the principles of death and re-birth. Too, as part of this purging experience, we may feel more of a need to talk about or verbalize (Mercury) what has been buried inside ourselves (Pluto). It is an excellent time, for instance, for psychotherapy.
On the shadow side of this highly volatile line-up of energy, and this line-up is very high-wattage, we can easily overreact and overdo, and physically and mentally exhaust ourselves in the process. Mars rules the physical energy in the body, and in alignment with intense Pluto, we tend to extend ourselves to the extreme. We become too stretched.
It is also easier for us now to become embroiled in heated arguments and quick-tempered disputes (Mercury-Mars), particularly bitter, manipulative power struggles (Mars-Pluto). Often with Mars-Pluto we act obsessively in ways that we don’t quite understand, as we are expressing needs and desires that are deep-seated in origin, that have been buried inside, and these things are consciously, for the most part, often unrecognized or misunderstood by us. If we see that more of the negative manifestation of this energy is playing out around us today, especially if we feel like lashing out for no good reason, we may need to find a way to disengage ourselves, while simultaneously searching for more inclusive strategies for compromise, or cooperation with others. This triple conjunction energy can be very healing today, but only if we choose to tap into it in enlightened, non self-serving ways. That is the key.
“The life of man is a struggle on earth. But without a cross, without a struggle, we get nowhere. The victory is ours if we combine our efforts courageously, even when at times they appear futile.” Boniface Wimmer

The Feminine Moon continues in Maternal Cancer emphasizing our nurturing instincts. The Moon is also lovingly supported here by Relationship Venus conjoined the Empowering Sun in Healing Scorpio. With Venus-Sun, we have perfect, soothing energy for forging intimate connections with others. Our creativity is also elevated.
Venus, too, represents “things of beauty.” With Venus-Sun, we have more of a desire to be surrounded by beautiful objects. Therefore, it’s a good day to go shopping for items of personal adornment (clothes, jewelry, perfume) or for decorative accessories to jewel the home front, especially with the Moon now in Domestic Diva Cancer. Too, with Venus and the Sun deposited in transitioning Scorpio, it may be a time when we can snatch some treasures at estate sales or consignment shops.
Meanwhile, Energy planet Mars, representing our will and self-assertion, leaves Intense Scorpio for Visionary Sagittarius (2:48 am EDT), where it is in search of wisdom and higher knowledge. Mars in Sagittarius has a deep need for learning, and also an equal desire to don the soapbox and speak out on the issues of the day. With Mars in Sagittarius, we will want to passionately begin rallying behind the causes we believe in, and not be afraid to state our personal views and opinions. (Mars will be in Sagittarius until December 7th.)
Interestingly, the last time Mars entered Sagittarius, mid-November of 2008, is when U.S. President-elect Barack Obama resigned his Senate seat. Sagittarius is the sign of politics, and with Aggressor Mars’ entry into this sign, the upcoming U.S. midterm-elections, on tap for next week, are certain to become even more heated.
The intrinsic nature of Mars is “trail-blazing” and “pioneering,” so it could be, theoretically, that with Mars in Sagittarius, incumbents may have a harder time holding onto their seats. It could also mean that many of us will be more energized to get involved in politics, this election season, instead of sitting on the sidelines. Mars denotes our passions and tends to “fire us up.” On the shadow side, Mars in Sagittarius is more inclined to be impulsive, reckless, and scattered.
News Update: With Mars entering idealistic Sagittarius today the Minister of Defense in France announced that France and some other NATO nations may begin withdrawing troops from Afghanistan next year. Interestingly, Mars rules war and the military. Its departure from defensive, retaliatory Scorpio to Inspirational, Philosophical Sagittarius could be interpreted perhaps as more of a willingness to “tame the aggressive urge” out of hope that a “higher order of things” may prevail in the future. Sagittarius is more of a dreamy, visionary sign.

Famous Birthday Today:
American computer billionaire, Bill Gates, is 55 today! Gates has a Resourceful, Investigative Scorpio Sun, with a Pioneering Aries Moon (conjunct his Aries 10th house of Career), and a Nurturing Cancer Rising or Ascendant. Uranus, which denotes genius and originality, is conjunct Gate’s Ascendant, making him futuristic and a trend-setter, and also very brilliant and original. In his money house, Jupiter and Pluto are also exactly conjunct in Flashy, Regal Leo, a classic signature of “mega-money.” Happy Birthday, Bill!
This Date In History:
On October 28, 1636, Harvard University was founded in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Jupiter, which rules higher education and colleges, was conjunct Venus, in Analytical Virgo. Venus rules “what we love,” and combined with Scholarly Jupiter, there can be an “abundant love of learning.” Jupiter, the expansive principle, also rules the Academically-minded sign of Sagittarius (which Mars is entering today).
Also, Venus and Jupiter were in a harmonious trine to Renewing Pluto, in Anchoring Taurus, suggesting that “educational pursuits” could provide opportunity for “transformation and firm footing.” No telling how many doors have been opened, over the years, for individuals holding distinguished degrees from Harvard University.
