Cosmic Weather:

We start out our Monday with Luna in nesting Cancer spotlighting our nurturing or protective side. Making time for those who matter most to us can be very important now to our sense of well-being.

The Moon is also in her Waning Gibbous (or Disseminating) phase, a favorable period for sharing what we have learned.

While today’s lunar square to wounded healer Chiron (4:19 pm) may spawn some moodiness, a Moon-Uranus sextile, later tonight (10:59 pm), helps to inspire flashes of insight that could make us feel freer. It also fosters taking new approaches, or changing up our routine.

*All times EST

Born On This Day: Abigail Adams, the second US First Lady, in Weymouth, Massachusetts in 1744 (d. 1818), although this title was not used at the time. Abigail Adams was one of only two women to have been both wife and mother to two U.S. presidents (the other being Barbara Bush). Hailed for her now-famous admonition that the Founding Fathers “remember the ladies” in their new laws, Abigail Adams was not only an early advocate for women’s rights, she was a vital confidant and advisor to her husband John Adams. She opposed slavery and supported women’s education. (womenshistory.org). Adams once wrote on the topic of learning:

“Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence.”

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Cosmic Weather:

“It’s amazing how a little tomorrow can make up for a whole lot of yesterday.” John Guare

Lots going on in the heavens today! The Mars-Jupiter trine aspect, exact early this morning (1:14 am), can allow our actions to take shape more quickly (and possibly morph into something big). It can also find us more future-oriented, more amped up about moving toward our goals. Mars is also in cerebral Gemini which can help us to intellectually detach and ponder our plans from various perspectives.

Too, Mercury in Aries is sextiling both Jupiter in Aquarius (12:00 pm) and Mars (3:09 pm), potentially adding even more breadth and scope – plus punchiness – to our communications. Our words are direct yet we also seem to be able to couch them in a way that doesn’t alienate.

Later, thinker Mercury will form a square to “Darth Vader” Pluto (5:49 pm). On the plus side, this can serve to make us very probing or investigative which can help to deepen or strengthen our perceptions; this aspect can also aid in our becoming more aware of our hidden impulses. On the shadow side, it can (obsessively) put our focus on what is broken or not working, which potentially could be a bit of a mental drain if we linger there too long. Shifting to finding solutions, though, is usually a good way to help get us centered and back on track (especially now with Mars in clever Gemini). Sometimes, too, one cool way to problem-solve is to imagine how someone you admire or look up to might go about rectifying things.

“What you condemn you continue. Focus on where you want to go rather than what you want to get away from.” Alan Cohen

Meanwhile, Waxing Luna shifts from busybody Gemini to homebody Cancer (3:25 pm). She’s also still in her Crescent Phase (with 24% illumination from the Sun). With the Moon in Cancer, there’s more of an impulse to nurture or protect.

*All times EDT

Going on today: The British Royal Family is gathering for the funeral of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who passed away on April 9 at age 99 (b. June 10, 1921). Towards the end of the Second World War Prince Philip served in the destroyer HMS WHELP in the Pacific, and was present in Tokyo Bay for the Japanese surrender on September 2, 1945. Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth were married for 73 years.

“When we were married I don’t think there was such a thing as a platinum anniversary, they didn’t know we would be around that long.” Queen Elizabeth

Astrologically, Jupiter is the planet associated with official royalty (real kings and queens!) – and we have the Mars-Jupiter trine exact today helping to bring royal activities to the forefront.

“It’s better to get out before you reach the sell-by date.” Prince Philip 🙂

May you rest in peace.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

“If we try to hold on to so many things, both real and imaginary, thoughts and emotions, fears, worries and expectations, then we begin to weigh our hearts down and make our minds restless.” Gyalwa Dokhampa

Some mental restlessness, edginess, and impulsivity are possible as thinker Mercury, in transcendental Pisces, squares off with assertive Mars in curious Gemini (at 11:26 pm). This aspect typically denotes a more forceful, expressive (and possibly more argumentative) time for communications. It can also signify an avid thirst for learning or knowledge. However, some facts, data, or information could also be missing, confusing, or perhaps just too vague to understand or figure out now (Mercury in Pisces), so we may want to put off any important decision-making, until more is known. (“Sleeping on things” or meditating might also help to provide us with greater clarity now.)

The Waxing Moon (in its First Quarter phase) also exits home-loving Cancer and enters theatrical Leo today (at 5:56 pm).

*All times EDT

On This Day in History: It was one year ago today, March 23, 2020, that the terrifying free fall for the U.S. stock market suddenly ended, ushering in one of its greatest runs. On March 23, 2020, the S&P 500 fell 2.9%. In all, the index dropped nearly 34% in about a month, wiping out three years’ worth of gains for the market. That turned out to be the bottom, even though the coronavirus pandemic worsened in the ensuing months and the economy sank deeper into recession. Massive amounts of support for the economy from the Federal Reserve and Congress limited how far stocks would fall. The market recovered all its losses by August. (From apnews.com)

Astrologically, on March 23, 2020, warrior Mars and transformational Pluto (in the business/government ruling sign of Capricorn) were exactly conjunct (to the minute!), that day, suggesting a period of symbolic death/destruction/implosion to be followed by a new rebirthing phase (conjunctions signify new beginnings). Too, Saturn “The Tester” (and the planetary ruler of Capricorn) had also just entered futuristic Aquarius, at zero degrees of the sign (a critical position).

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Cosmic Weather:

Mars in Scorpio trines Neptune in Pisces (6:54 am): This waning trine aspect suggests we have the wherewithal, creativity, and inspiration to strategically pursue our dreams and visions in such a way that also helps to release or alleviate the stranglehold of the past. This is very nice energy for transformation or rebirth, and also for unification, as prior barriers or boundaries seemingly become more porous now.

On the other hand, we also have Venus conjunct Pluto in Capricorn (10:16 am). This is a very emotionally intense aspect that can notably arouse our feelings, passions, and desires. Not only can this make us feel things very deeply, but we can also be very single-minded in pursuing our goals now, especially in the realm of relationships or perhaps concerning our career. Because we are so focused on what we want now it may actually help us to manifest our agendas, particularly if we are careful not to overstep our boundaries. On the shadow side, more challenging Venus-Pluto aspects can incline us to operate in a more manipulative or calculating manner.

After yesterday’s Full Moon in “busy, breezy, overthinking” it Gemini, which may have gotten a lot of us “stirred up,” we now end our Friday the 13th with Luna deposited in her ruling sign of Cancer the Crab, putting self-care back into the spotlight. The Moon will remain in home-loving, family-oriented Cancer for the next couple of days.

Cosmic Weather:

“The ache for home lives in all of us. The safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.” Maya Angelou

Isn’t it fascinating how time seems to pass by so much more slowly when we are younger? Then, when we are older, especially, perhaps, into our fifties and sixties, it just seems to fly by! We may, of course, wage noble efforts, periodically, to attempt to slow time down, by filling our days with all kinds of, what we hope will be, momentous or memorable activities, in a bid, consciously or subconsciously, to make our lives more interesting, meaningful and impactful. But, nevertheless, quietly in the background, there is no denying. The steady, Saturnian tick, tick, tick of the clock, marches on!

When the Moon is passing through maternal Cancer, the sign of our roots, as it is doing so today, we often find ourselves more naturally drawn to matters of the past, that seemingly endless region of our lives where the hands of time are often rather blurred or imprecise. The sound of the tick, more soothingly muted. No doubt, for our mental health! Sometimes, too, when we are recalling a good time in the past, this retro visitation can be like returning back to a favorite restaurant and ordering something tried and true from a menu that we know we already like. We just order the same ole’ same ole’ and, voila, something magical happens and everything is, seemingly, peachy keen again with our present-day world. We have enjoyably dined on the reliable fare of the past and we know that we can handle whatever it is that is before us, as we are survivors, by golly! 🙂

On this Saturday in mid-February, Lady Luna in Cancer is one very busy chick! Having meetups with Mercury, Venus, Neptune, Saturn, and Pluto. Yes, it appears that Missy Silvery Night Sky has overbooked herself, but there is not much to do about it now. Also, how boring life would be without a little bit of drama. Right? Okay. So Luna’s conversation with Chronos-ruling Saturn could (12:40 pm) could get a little problematic for us. But, mainly only if we allow ourselves to wallow in a woe-is-me, scarcity mindset. But do we really need to go there? No, we don’t! How about channeling Saturn’s resilience and persistence instead? Yup! A no-brainer! Then there is, of course, the matter of the Moon’s opposition to underworld-ruling Pluto (9:39 pm). A time when the darkness really begins to descend! So, granted, things might be a little scary now, but, unless we have not paid our electric bill, what is to stop us from flipping a switch and turning on a darn light? In fact, we may want to shine a giant spotlight into the whole dark mess now and see what turns up! Let Pluto know, in no uncertain terms, that we are not afraid to glimpse and embrace our very own groundhog shadow, replete with all of its custom-designed bells and whistles. Piece of cake! In fact, make it a huge piece of dark chocolate cake with super-duper blood-red cherries on it! 🙂

“If we talk to anyone, or see anyone, or even think of anyone, then we have the opportunity to bring more love into the universe.” Marianne Williamson

Heart, Dove, Silhouette, Love, Luck

Venus, the planet of love, beauty, values, and money is stationing direct today in “royal” Leo after a six week retrograde (reflection) cycle. “Venus direct” is generally perceived to be a time when we have a clearer understanding of who we want and what we want in our lives. This may be especially the case as Venus starts picking up speed, in the next couple of weeks. Too, sometimes as Venus is stationing or “shifting gears” we are still sort of adjusting to things and may not be exactly sure how to proceed, which is why it may be best to defer any decision-making about relationships, major purchases, finances, etc. for at least a few days. Venus will also be in its ‘shadow phase’ until October 9 (or retracing the zodiac degrees that were originally part of the retro cycle).

The Last Quarter Moon also enters “maternal” Cancer, this afternoon (1:40 pm), tending to heighten our emotions and sensitivity to our environment. This is also a time when we may seek to replenish our spirit by surrounding ourselves with what is warm and familiar to us.

“That’s what people do who love you. They put their arms around you and love you when you’re not so lovable.” Deb Caletti

COSMIC WATCH:

Blackbird Chicks In Nest

The Moon remains in “nesting” Cancer, all day. Knowing that we have a “place to call home,” and people around us who “have our back,” no matter what, is especially comforting for us now. This lunar position can also invoke our patriotism, or allegiance to our tribe – the “first chakra” issues.  The Moon goes void-of-course in Cancer at 12:53 pm, and will remain so until it shifts into “self-expressive” Leo at 6:34 pm, on Sunday.

The Cancer Moon forms a square to “erratic” Uranus, late this morning, at 11:49 am. This could bring about some emotional vacillation, as well as a desire to “bust out of our routines.” We may also need to be flexible with matters on the home front, especially when things do not go as planned. Too, surrendering our expectations for how things are “supposed to be,” and going, instead, with what wants to show up in the moment, can be a very positive way to navigate this period. Uranus symbolizes the unexpected, change, taking new approaches, liberation, radical thinking, people who break or circumvent the rules, astrologers, inventors, electrical activity.

The Moon also forms an opposition to “tell it like it is” Pluto, 12:53 pm. While this more emotionally intense influence can lead us to “the truth,” we may want to refrain now from acting upon any of the burgeoning revelations, until we’ve at least had a chance to sit with them for a while. Kind of like when we take a cake out of the oven, we don’t want to cut it, while it’s still hot. Pluto symbolizes secrets, or what has been hidden, the domain of the subconscious, the basement of a house, plumbing, extremist views, obsessions, grave-diggers, miners, psychotherapists.

“Once you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.” Spock, Star Trek. Rest in peace, Leonard Nimoy. (March 26, 1931 – February 27, 2015)

Question for Today: Is there anything you’ve been wanting to say to a family member, but just haven’t said it yet? (This could also include those family members who have transitioned.) If so, what exactly would you like to say?

In the News: With the Moon in “security-driven” Cancer, and forming a fluid trine to “putting aside our differences” Neptune, the U.S. Congress finally passes “Stopgap Funding for Homeland Security,” late last night (wsj.com).

Earlier in the evening, the Cancer Moon was also square to Mars in “initiating” Aries.  Squares are often synonymous with our needing to take prompt action. It is also the nature of “warrior” Mars to act swiftly on matters that are deemed necessary for our survival and well-being. Had Congress not acted on this measure by midnight, funding for Homeland Security was set to expire.

“Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” C.G. Jung

COSMIC WATCH:

Footsteps 2

We’ve all heard: Three steps forward, two steps back. I believe, today, with the Moon entering its home turf of “protective” Cancer (7:50 am EST), and forming a late day trine to “reflective” Neptune (9:59 pm EST), which is still involved in the latter stages of that annual, dreamy conjunction with the Sun, in “transcendent” Pisces, we’re pretty much into that “two steps backward” phase of our journey now. Feeling a need to chew upon our latest moves, or forays into the world.

Some of us, too, may have launched a lot of “rockets of desire,” as of late, with both Mars and Venus entering “initiating” Aries. Too, anytime we put new things into motion, shortly afterwards, if not immediately, we begin to feel the consequences of that activity, and that activity almost always ends up impacting us, to some degree, on an energetic level.

For example, as you may have noticed, I’ve been trying to blog here with more regularity, and have been doing so for more than a week now (it started with Mars applying to a conjunction with my 2 degree Aries Ascendant). But, I must confess, this activity has already come at somewhat of a cost to me. While I like the notion of challenging myself to create something “out of nothing,” the downside of doing this, nearly daily, is that it also routinely requires a good chunk of both my mental and physical energy, time, etc. – yadda yadda yadda. 🙂 So now, with the assist of the “self-nurturing” Cancer Moon, if I’m a smart cookie, I may want to take a moment out here, to weigh the “pros and cons” of this very “self-humbling” endeavor. And, likewise, you may want to do the same thing, with regard to what you’ve recently thrown up onto the canvas of life – to see if it makes sense for you to continue along this trajectory, in the same manner. Or, maybe you – as well as I – will both discover that we need to implement some immediate, corrective, generous self-care measures – a bit of tweaking of things – to stabilize or sustain our spirit, as well as preserve any remaining portion of our sanity and good humor.

Also, before the “maternal” Cancer Moon harmoniously trines Neptune, tonight, she’s going to square “assertive” Mars in Aries (7:41 pm EST) the warrior planet, suggesting that we may be a little tempted to come out of the self-imposed hibernation mode to consider flexing our muscle, for a flash. Especially if we discern the behavior’s warranted because we’re being taunted, bullied, etc by maybe the dog, the television, or our lovable in-laws. The testosterone laden Moon-Mars aspect is often associated with defensive posturing or maneuvering.

Also, “expansive” Jupiter, governing our beliefs, optimism, and personal philosophy is quinqunx “reconfigurating” Pluto, today. This rather off-kilter influence may inspire us to temporarily revisit some of our beliefs about things, especially those self-limiting beliefs that may be sabotaging or undermining our own interests, or otherwise interfering with our self-growth, in some manner. Too, isn’t it funny how we frequently can get in our own way, and never even know it at the time? Often, the only way we ever even become cognizant of this fact is that an event will occur, or we’ll get sick, etc., and then, all of a sudden, we’re gifted with this amazing, remarkable clarity of how we’ve been keeping our self small due to our convoluted thinking. “You never know how much you really believe anything until its truth or falsehood becomes a matter of life and death to you.” C.S. Lewis

COSMIC WATCH:

The Moon in “nurturing” Cancer, the sign of home and family, sextiles the Sun in “industrious” Virgo (2:38 pm EDT). This flowing and supportive aspect should make it easier for us to integrate our feelings (Moon) with what we’re doing (Sun). It’s also an excellent day to clear away old projects – either at home or at the office. Too, when we retire old tasks, we’ll usually notice a nice boost in our energy, as unfinished business tends to deplete us – sort of like having a slow leak in our tire.

astrology for june 1 2014, feeling protected, home, Maya Angelou quote about home, Moon in Cancer, safe haven

“The ache for home lives in all of us. The safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.” Maya Angelou

(The Moon is in the “nesting” sign of Cancer all day, until 9:43 pm EDT, when it shifts into “rock star” Leo.)

Having an actual brick and mortar place to call “home” is something that brings many of us a sense of joy and contentment, along with an enhanced feeling of physical safety. But, as Maya Angelou so eloquently reminds us, there is also another kind of home or haven that all of us long for: a place where we can go and be accepted exactly as we are. A place where the sheer power of our being is always enough, and fully celebrated and appreciated. A place where the preoccupation with “doing” is no longer deemed necessary as a way to justify or supplant ourselves.

How do you know when you’re on the right path home?
