Cosmic Weather:

“Liberation means you don’t have to be silenced.” Toni Morrison

Something unexpected or novel could be a catalyst, or serve as fodder, for sending us off in a potentially stimulating or liberating new direction that we maybe had not consciously anticipated. This is also a good time to perhaps fashion fresh approaches to old problems or stalemate situations as the innovative Mars-Uranus energy tends to awaken both our “inner tinkerer” and “inner reformer.”

Intellectual Mercury is also quinqunx Pluto Rx supplying us with, among other things, plenty of curiosity regarding what lies below the surface of matters. Archetypally, intense Mercury-Pluto energy can often operate a bit like a dog with a bone in that once it grabs ahold of an idea or a strategy, it doesn’t let go.

Waxing Luna is also in her home sign of nurturing Cancer, all day, so we are naturally attracted to outlets now that draw out or play to our emotions.

(Mars in Pisces sextile Uranus in Taurus, at 2:48 am; Mercury in Gemini quinqux Pluto Rx in Capricorn, 12:26 am.)

*All times EDT.

On This Day in History: On May 25, 1927, Henry Ford announces that he is ending production of the Model T Ford, a car that’s credited with “putting the world on wheels.” Reportedly, the vehicle was discontinued because it had become technologically obsolete.

In the astrology, that day, the empowering Sun was in “transportation-ruling” Gemini and applying to a one-degree opposition to “curtailing” Saturn in futuristic Sagittarius. Sun-Saturn aspects, particularly the opposition, are often associated with phasing out what is no longer working or essential for us.

Meanwhile, on the very next day, May 26th, when the Sun-Saturn opposition was exact, Henry Ford and the Ford Motor Company produced the last – and 15th million – Model T Ford / Tin Lizzie.

Remember and Honor this Memorial Day. Please be safe and well!

Astrology January 15, 2014: Full Moon in Cancer

“You will never feel truly satisfied by work until you are satisfied by life.” Heath Schuck, The Working Mom Manifesto

COSMIC WATCH:

A Full Moon in “maternal” Cancer tonight (11:52 pm EST) illuminates the polarity between our personal or inner world (home, family, and roots) and our public or outer life (career, duties, and ambitions), the latter signified by the opposing Sun in “paternal” Capricorn.

This nurturing Full Moon is a chance for us to get clearer on how we can successfully integrate both of these realms so that we can bring more enjoyment into our lives. Too, with the frenetic pace of daily living, it’s often easy for us to look upon life as something merely to be endured, instead of as a vehicle for self-actualization and fulfillment.

This feelings-oriented Cancerian lunation predisposes us to go within; to perform a “gut check” on ourselves, regarding where we’re at and how we got there. Feminine, protective Cancer, the sign of the womb and mother, has a very keen survival instinct and always knows what is in its best interests to do to sustain its existence. Included in the equation now may be a growing awareness of the need for administering liberal amounts of self-care to ourselves as a way to start thriving in the future. “Rest and self-care are so important. When you take time to replenish your spirit, it allows you to serve others from the overflow. You cannot serve from an empty vessel.” Eleanor Brown

This nostalgic Cancer Full Moon may also find us journeying down “memory lane” to re-connect with, or reflect upon, our familial past. In general, there may also be movement or developments in affairs pertaining to family or our home life. “For in every adult there dwells the child that was, and in every child there lies the adult that will be.” John Connolly.

This lunation may additionally be a good time to assuage or heal old wounds as we have benevolent, philosophical Jupiter retrograde conjunct the Moon and wise Saturn trining it from transformative Scorpio. The Moon and Saturn can also help us to coolly detach from our feelings and see things as they are instead of how we merely wish them to be. On another level, this trine is positive for re-organizing our domestic environment to make it more open and efficient, with Saturn injecting the minimalist or utilitarian influences.

Overall, Full Moons are a time for release, a time when we begin to empty out our chalices. We also may see matters suddenly coming to a head or climax. “You leave old habits behind by starting out with the thought ‘I release the need for this in my life’”. Wayne Dyer

What activities could you minimize now that don’t add to your sense of personal well-being or professional fulfillment? What makes you feel nurtured and protected? What comes up for your when you think of your home, your family?

Full Moon Blessings to you!

“When you assess your own life, consider it with the eye of a gardener. Underneath the surface lies rich, fertile soil waiting to nurture the seeds you sow. Even more than you can imagine will grow there if given a chance.” Steve Goodier

COSMIC WATCH:

The Moon’s placement in “maternal” Cancer graciously supports self-care efforts and also poises us to be more protective and nurturing with those around us. Too, on the topic of self-care, Life Coach Cheryl Richardson (author of “The Art of Extreme Self Care“) wisely recommends that, “We need to put the idea of ‘self-care as selfish’ behind us for good.”

Additionally today, we have the Moon sextiling “energizing” Mars (10:30 am EDT), in the “diligent” sign of Virgo, enabling us to deftly tap into our own resourcefulness, while also serving to align us with our heart’s passions and desires. This potent aspect is also very positive for any systemic cleansing or detoxification measures, with “perfecting” Virgo governing health matters. “A healthy body is a guest-chamber for the soul; a sick body is a prison.” Francis Bacon

COSMIC WATCH:

“I deepen my experience of God through prayer, meditation, and forgiveness.” Marianne Williamson

The waning Moon remains in yielding, meditative Pisces encouraging us to “go with the flow” instead of offering up any formidable resistance. Overall, an excellent day for wrapping things up or putting old issues to bed. Although, we may need to consciously guide ourselves to stay on track.

Early afternoon, the Moon’s trine to sweet Venus in caring Cancer (2:43 pm EDT) helps to strengthen our bonds with loved ones. Venus is also sesquiquadrate to wounded healer Chiron suggesting that this may be a good time to placate old wounds.

A seed of challenge for us today is the Moon’s square to restless Mars in communicator Gemini (4:45 pm EDT), at which time we may need to stand sentry over our temper and or refrain from making any hurtful remarks.

“Have a heart that never hardens, and a temper that never tires, and a touch that never hurts.” Charles Dickens

Famous People with Moon in Pisces: Elvis Presley, Jerry Seinfield, Michael Jackson, Prince, Hillary Clinton, Winona Ryder

Events in the News: With the Moon steeped in her “waning phase” and  cloaked in “dissolving” Pisces, the last sign of the zodiac, we are collectively seeing the “passing away”of some old, familiar structures now. One positive thing about the Pisces Moon is that it helps to get us “resigned” to the inevitability of certain things occurring, as part of the natural rhythm of life. Too, we know that endings make possible new beginnings.

Some “endings” perhaps worth noting now:

1)  The Space Shuttle Atlantis is scheduled to undock from the International Space Station today for the last time in the history of the space shuttle program.

2) “Borders,” the 2nd largest U.S. bookstore chain, announced yesterday that it’s liquidating all of its remaining bookstores and idling some 11,000 workers.  It should also be mentioned that initiating Mars is in Gemini now, the sign of reading and books. As Mars passes through a sign it will often prompt the taking of action in conjunction with the affairs ruled by that sign. With the liquidation of Borders, we are also witnessing the ending of a previous way of life – people reading physical books.

3) U.S. General Petraeus gave up command of the Afghan war Monday to head the CIA. Of course, the U.S. government is also taking measures to reportedly draw down the number of troops in Afghanistan.

4) News Corp head, Rupert Murdoch, whose media empire has been seemingly imploding, as of late, is slated to testify before lawmakers in the U.K. today about the alleged “phone hacking” scandal.

Interestingly, this scandal investigation really began heating up shortly after  warrior Mars launched into communication Gemini in late June. Gemini rules both telephones and news gathering and reporting. Too, Mars’ passage through Gemini is serving to school many of us on the apparent workings of the tabloid news industry. Showing us the drastic lengths that some reporters will allegedly go to, to get their story out there. Hopefully, the purported phone hacking isn’t pervasive in the industry, though. Although, this story has also spotlighted how public officials, even law enforcement officials, can often have “too cozy” a relationship with members of the media.

BTW, Murdoch, a Pisces Sun, has “purging” Pluto conjuncting his 3 degree Capricorn Ascendant now. The Ascendant is the window by which we view the world. Too, with the Moon in “atoning” Pisces, Murdoch is called upon to publicly give a full accounting of his company’s missteps.

Do you still read “old-fashioned” books or have you switched to the Kindle or some other electronic reading device? I must admit, I still have an affection for the “real thing.”

Enjoy your Tuesday!

COSMIC WATCH:

“Eventually you can get into the nuts and bolts of reality: nurturing, caring, and getting along.” Jody Watley

Love Goddess Venus enters self-protective, security-conscious, “Cancer the Crab,” the sign of home and family today. She will stay in Cancer until July 28th. Venus in Cancer inspires our deeper nurturing and caring impulses, and also heightens our desire for nesting and privacy.

Venus is also trine idealistic Neptune, in tender-hearted Pisces, making us extra forgiving, as well as more “fantasy-prone” in romance. This is a highly creative aspect that is excellent for any activity that calls for the full employment of our imagination. Many artists, musicians, writers, film-makers, and dancers will often have Venus-Neptune aspects prominent in their horoscopes, including the late Hans Christian Andersen, the Danish “fairy tale writer,” famous for his children’s stories.  Too, Venus trine Neptune is a classic aspect of “fairy tale romance,” so there’s a nice, synchronistic tie-in here.

We addtionally have intellectual Mercury in dramatic Leo making a fortuitous trine with brilliant Uranus in adventurous Aries. Uranus governs genius and intuition, so it’s possible that today will provide fertile ground for a plethora of “aha moments” to occur.

The Moon will also be in theatrical, glamorous Leo all day, favorable for parades and other “Fun Fourth” celebrations. Later tonight, she will shift into immaculate, attentive Virgo (9:16 pm EDT) to tidy everything up.

Famous people with Venus in Cancer: Meryl Streep, Clint Eastwood, Cameron Diaz, Lena Horne, Martin Sheen.

Happy Fourth of July!

COSMIC WATCH:

“Question reality, especially if it contradicts the evidence of your hopes and dreams.”  ~Robert Brault

We have mental Mercury in vulnerable Cancer squaring off with stern, reality kingpin Saturn in balancing Libra. This is one of those days when we may need to earnestly strive to see the glass half-full, as naysayer Saturn tends to conjure up our doubts and fears. We begin to second-guess ourselves.

Not to worry, though. There is surely a patch of blue sky with sunshine around us somewhere. We just have to find a way to align our personal orbits so that they will eventually intersect with this more inspiring outcome. With Saturn’s narrowing ray stoked, it is often helpful to step outside of ourselves in a bid to gain wider perspective.

Also, we do have the Moon steeped in mystical, nirvana-seeking Pisces, which should be a blessing for us here. The Moon in Pisces also helps to inspire compassion in us. Too, we may want to remember to use some of this on ourselves now, as part of our own self-care.

In the Northern Hemisphere, it is also the day of the magical summer solstice (1:16 pm EDT), when the empowering Sun enters nurturing, nesting Cancer, where it will stay for the next month. This ingress also serves to sensitize our nature and gets us much more in touch with our feelings, as well as our nostalgic past. Our need to put down firm, stable roots, is very vital to us now, as we seek out activities or interests that make us feel more secure, with special emphasis centered on the home and family arenas.

“To be able to move on, one has to learn to forgive not only the other person (or people) who have done one wrong but also oneself.” Eugenia Tripputi

COSMIC WEATHER:

There’s a Full Moon today (4:22 pm EST) in maternal Cancer at 29 degrees. Full Moons bring us awareness. They are also a time for release. This one in emotional Cancer can make us aware of how we nurture and take care of ourselves and others. This is a terrific time to give ourselves “extra mothering,” “extra pampering,” to do something nice for ourselves that will have the effect of making us feel more secure, more contented. It is also a time to ponder our emotional needs, to go inward. To take the temperature of our feelings.

Also, we want to be warmly reaching out to others now. Perhaps we could invite a friend or neighbor over for a home-cooked meal. Additionally, we may want to connect with special persons from our past, as Cancer deals with our roots, and purposely reminds us of where we’ve been.

Because the Full Moon in domestic Cancer opposes the Sun in Capricorn, which governs our professional life, we could also gain new insights now on how to best juggle our home life vs. our professional life. It could be, too, that we can prune away or purge elements from both of these areas to make ourselves feel more empowered. Personally, I am in the middle of a big purge project on the homefront, and am going to use at least part of this day for getting rid of more of the clutter around me that has been psychologically weighing me down, and interfering with what I want to accomplish in the outer world.

Today’s Full Moon also harmoniously trines expansive Jupiter and awakening Uranus at the end of inward-seeking Pisces, suggesting a special fortuitous aspect to this lunar event, especially in terms of emotional breakthroughs. Also, with the Capricorn Sun sextile to lucky Jupiter this may be a favorable time to make gains professionally or in business. Jupiter’s benevolent ray tends to positively grow the world around us.

“The heart of a mother is a deep abyss at the bottom on which you will always find forgiveness.” Honore de Balzac

Full Moons offer us a chance for full awareness, or full illumination. We tend to see things “more clearly” with Full Moons. The Full Moon that we have on January 19th occurs at 29 degrees of Cancer (4:22 pm EST), which is the very last degree of the sign. Moon-ruled Cancer is the sign of motherly love. Home and family. It governs nurturing and self-protection. The Cancer experience provides us with a heightened sense of our own continuation, an awareness of our roots.

With this Full Moon occurring at the very end of sensitive Cancer, there symbolically seems to be more of an urgency to it. When planets are at the last degrees, we are wrapping things up. Too, this Full Moon forms a harmonious trine to both “opportunity” Jupiter, at 29 degrees of surrendering Pisces, and to “awakening” Uranus at 27 degrees of Pisces. This suggests the possibility of an emotional breakthrough.

Individually, we will want to look at our personal horoscopes to see what house in our chart this Full Moon is falling in, as to where this breakthrough or full awareness may be occurring. It is likely that we will also see an uptick in general activity or movement in those affairs designated by the house containing the Full Moon.

Full Moons are a time of release. This Full Moon in “clinging to the familiar” Cancer may be an ideal time for us to symbolically release old hurts and wounds from our past, especially from our familial past. By emptying ourselves of this emotionally depleting arsenal, we make it possible for our more tender, nurturing impulses to again reign.

“Let your hopes, not your hurts, shape your future.” Robert H. Schuller.

“Have a heart that never hardens, and a temper that never tires, and a touch that never hurts.” Charles Dickens.

COSMIC WEATHER:

The Moon continues in “There’s No Place Like Home” Cancer making “Dorothy in Oz” one happy little munchkin. The “Cook-Happy” Cancer Moon also throws harmonious trines to “Good Witch” Jupiter (10:28 am EDT) and “Wizard” Uranus (3:49 pm EDT) in “Fantasy-Prone” Pisces, giving us an itch to perhaps add some dreamy “rainbow sherbet” to the menu, for a change of pace.

Later on, the Moon roars into “Warmhearted” Leo (8:39 pm EDT). Even the “Cowardly Lion” begins to purr.

Activities highlighted today: Cooking, family dinners, trying out new recipes, grocery-shopping, shopping for furniture and home appliances, redecorating the home front, investigating ancestry, involvement with charitable undertakings, whatever outlets that allow for the demonstration of our nurturing abilities.

Quote for the day:

“I long, as does every human being, to be at home wherever I find myself.” Maya Angelou

On This Date in history:

On October 29, 1966 the National Organization of Women (NOW) was founded. Traditionalist Saturn was in Pisces, a sign that denotes the downtrodden and disenfranchised elements of a society. Saturn was in a tight opposition to Empowering, Equality-Ruling Uranus in Abilities and Skills Virgo.

With Saturn opposite Uranus, we had a symbolic pitting of “the old” (Saturn) against “the new” (Uranus). Rebel Uranus in Service-Oriented Virgo was perhaps suggesting here that we should “equalize our roles of service,” “level the playing field.” Allow and empower individuals (women) to “serve” in new ways.

Protocol Minded Saturn, in Ego-Denying Pisces, was also possibly generating awareness of how the established rules (Saturn), over the years, had served to imprison and deny (Pisces) free expression (Uranus) to part of the populace.

Venus, ruling women, was in Regenerating Scorpio (redefining women) and exactly square to Expansive Jupiter in Self-Expressive Leo. As an organization, NOW immediately captured the spotlight (Leo) and had major (Jupiter) transformational impact on shaping women’s behavior and self-expression.

With Venus-Jupiter, too, we sometimes “go overboard” or “get carried away” in our desires. Those critical of NOW may say that, that has also been the case, that there has always been too much “zealotry” (Jupiter) with respect to the agenda and leadership (Leo) of the organization.

The Feminine Moon was also in Stabilizing and Steady Taurus, and involved in a Fixed T-Square to both Venus and Jupiter, making for more of an “uncompromising” emotional energy that is not known for “letting go.” Adding perhaps even more resolve and determination to the NOW organization and its operational principles.

COSMIC WEATHER:

The Feminine Moon continues in Maternal Cancer emphasizing our nurturing instincts. The Moon is also lovingly supported here by Relationship Venus conjoined the Empowering Sun in Healing Scorpio. With Venus-Sun, we have perfect, soothing energy for forging intimate connections with others. Our creativity is also elevated.

Venus, too, represents “things of beauty.” With Venus-Sun, we have more of a desire to be surrounded by beautiful objects. Therefore, it’s a good day to go shopping for items of personal adornment (clothes, jewelry, perfume) or for decorative accessories to jewel the home front, especially with the Moon now in Domestic Diva Cancer.  Too, with Venus and the Sun deposited in transitioning Scorpio, it may be a time when we can snatch some treasures at estate sales or consignment shops.

Meanwhile, Energy planet Mars, representing our will and self-assertion, leaves Intense Scorpio for Visionary Sagittarius (2:48 am EDT), where it is in search of wisdom and higher knowledge. Mars in Sagittarius has a deep need for learning, and also an equal desire to don the soapbox and speak out on the issues of the day. With Mars in Sagittarius, we will want to passionately begin rallying behind the causes we believe in, and not be afraid to state our personal views and opinions. (Mars will be in Sagittarius until December 7th.)

Interestingly, the last time Mars entered Sagittarius, mid-November of 2008, is when U.S. President-elect Barack Obama resigned his Senate seat. Sagittarius is the sign of politics, and with Aggressor Mars’ entry into this sign, the upcoming U.S. midterm-elections, on tap for next week, are certain to become even more heated.

The intrinsic nature of Mars is “trail-blazing” and “pioneering,” so it could be, theoretically, that with Mars in Sagittarius, incumbents may have a harder time holding onto their seats. It could also mean that many of us will be more energized to get involved in politics, this election season, instead of sitting on the sidelines. Mars denotes our passions and tends to “fire us up.” On the shadow side, Mars in Sagittarius is more inclined to be impulsive, reckless, and scattered.

News Update: With Mars entering idealistic Sagittarius today the Minister of Defense in France announced that France and some other NATO nations may begin withdrawing troops from Afghanistan next year. Interestingly, Mars rules war and the military. Its departure from defensive, retaliatory Scorpio to Inspirational, Philosophical Sagittarius could be interpreted perhaps as more of a willingness to “tame the aggressive urge” out of hope that a “higher order of things” may prevail in the future.  Sagittarius is more of a dreamy, visionary sign.

Activities highlighted now: cooking, decorating, teaching, learning, writing, politics, romance, parties, antiquing, healing, beauty treatments, personal pampering.

Quote For The Day:

“In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock.” Thomas Jefferson

Famous Birthday Today:

American computer billionaire, Bill Gates, is 55 today! Gates has a Resourceful, Investigative Scorpio Sun, with a Pioneering Aries Moon (conjunct his Aries 10th house of Career), and a Nurturing Cancer Rising or Ascendant. Uranus, which denotes genius and originality, is conjunct Gate’s Ascendant, making him futuristic and a trend-setter, and also very brilliant and original.  In his money house, Jupiter and Pluto are also exactly conjunct in Flashy, Regal Leo, a classic signature of “mega-money.” Happy Birthday, Bill!

This Date In History:

On October 28, 1636, Harvard University was founded in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Jupiter, which rules higher education and colleges, was conjunct Venus, in Analytical Virgo. Venus rules “what we love,” and combined with Scholarly Jupiter, there can be an “abundant love of learning.” Jupiter, the expansive principle, also rules the Academically-minded sign of Sagittarius (which Mars is entering today).

Also, Venus and Jupiter were in a harmonious trine to Renewing Pluto, in Anchoring Taurus, suggesting that “educational pursuits” could provide opportunity for “transformation and firm footing.” No telling how many doors have been opened, over the years, for individuals holding distinguished degrees from Harvard University.
