COSMIC WATCH:

“Remember, people will judge you by your actions, not your intentions. You may have a heart of gold…but so does a hard-boiled egg.” Source Unknown

The authoritative Sun, the largest body in our solar system, squares off with forceful Mars today. When these two meet up, we often feel compelled to take assertive action to prove ourselves. The possible challenge for us here is to make sure that by acting in this manner we do not needlessly ruffle too many feathers as this could get us sent to the back of the classroom today! Since Mars also governs our physical energy, we may be able to make headway on our “to-do lists” as we may be feeling more invigorated now.

On another level, Sun-Mars aspects can often be very emotionally galvanizing, poising us to seek out adventurous or trail-blazing experiences.

Also today, mental Mercury is shifting from curious Gemini into sentimental Cancer where it will stay until June 25th. This may find us communicating with more sensitivity, including articulating our feelings more. Our words may also be able to trigger more emotionalism from others. Cancer also rules home and family and Mercury here may be putting more of a focus on these areas for us the next few weeks. “His heart was like a sensitive plant, that opens for a moment in the sunshine, but curls up and shrinks into itself at the slightest touch of the finger, or the lightest breath of the wind.” Anne Bronte

Some Astrological Research about transiting Sun square Mars: The very last time that we had the Sun in communication Gemini, exactly square to Mars in perfecting Virgo (like we have today), was on June 1 of 1980. On that date, The Cable News Network (CNN), was officially launched at 5:00 pm EST in Atlanta, Georgia. Gemini governs news reporting which makes this an especially fascinating bit of astrological info. Mars in industrious Virgo perhaps also helped to take the news to a new level then. Too, again this shows the potential trailblazing aspect of the Sun-Mars aspect.

Famous People with Sun Square Mars: Madonna, Bob Dylan, Muhammad Ali (They were all self-made, pioneer types.)

How comfortable are you with being assertive?

COSMIC WATCH:

“There’s no place like home.” Dorothy, from The Wizard of Oz.

There’s a New Moon Solar Eclipse at 9 degrees of security-conscious Cancer today (4:55 am EDT), the nurturing sign of Mother and our ancestral roots that is also linked to the past. Eclipses are highly charged events that can have impact for up to six months. Too, the affects of an eclipse are often felt immediately, usually within a few days, on either side of the event (please refer to my other recent “eclipse blogs,”  for more info about this subject).

This lunation, in which the Sun and Moon are both conjunct in Cancer, also sets up a “grand cardinal cross,” or square in the sky, involving Uranus in Aries (personal freedom), Pluto in Capricorn (transformation), and Saturn in Libra (responsibility). New Moons usher in new beginnings, although Solar Eclipses can also bring about sudden endings, especially with respect to long-standing situations.

The grand cardinal cross can also coincide with critical turning points, or releases in matters, that have us “springing into action,” as a response. Our “taking action” can also have the net affect of creating new beginnings for ourselves. Too, just as the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) denote the arrival of the seasons, the activation of the cardinal cross can also denote pivotal life transitions. This “much ballyhooed configuration” is often a potent antidote or cure for any stagnating or fence-straddling tendencies.

Today’s eclipse lunation will likely have us dealing with practical issues of our own basic survival and security, something that is central to the Cancer psyche. Cancer, insulated by its crab shell, is perennially wanting to shore up its defenses and protect itself, and its family members, from possible hostile forces in the outer world. Cancer rules the home (and the womb), our personal haven and private base of operations, to which we return each day to seek solace and nourishment (Cancer also rules the food supply and eating habits).

With the sign of Cancer also being governed by the feminine Moon, women’s issues (including women’s health), as well as issues involving the family and parenting, may figure more prominently into our lives now. Too, just this week, with the Sun in Cancer making an opposition to bulldozing Pluto in Capricorn (part of the grand cross), an FDA panel unanimously voted to revoke the approval of  Avastin, a popular drug for breast cancer treatment (Cancer rules the breasts).

Also, testimony is expected to conclude today in the riveting, high-profile, Casey Anthony trial, that has much of the nation, even the world, glued to their television sets. CNN.com is also reporting that the case could go to the jury as early as this weekend. The Casey Anthony trial centers around a mother allegedly murdering her own child (Cancer-related theme of mother and child). Another example of how the grand cross energy often brings matters to a head and or provides for resolution.

Too, NYT.com is reporting today that the high-profile sexual assault case against Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the former head of the International Monetary Fund, involving a hotel maid (a Cancer-ruled occupation), has suddenly turned around and is weakening, which is a huge development. Other internet news reports, this morning, say the case against him is “imploding” or “collapsing.” In the eclipse chart again, the Sun and Moon in Cancer (the sign of hotels) oppose Pluto which rules rape and sexual assault.  Too, Pluto rules investigative efforts and often when it’s ray is activated, we find out new information that previously was hidden. Reportedly, the hotel maid now has major credibility issues.

Also, with the Eclipse’s square to freedom-loving, rebellious Uranus, in self-identity Aries, we may be tempted to be a bit more defiant now and break with convention in a bid to “do our own thing.” Of course, the Eclipse’s square to taskmaster Saturn, in partnership Libra, should also serve to hold us accountable to others for our actions. Saturn rarely lets us off the hook.

Too, Aries rules the world of sports, and last night, the NBA locked out its’ players which could imperil the 2011-12 basketball season. Could this move also be a manifestation of the volatile Uranus in Aries shaking things up in the sports world? Uranus, on the shadow side, can be a very disruptive influence.

BTW, with the transiting Cancer Sun’s square to non-traditional Uranus (part of the grand cross), this past week, we saw gay marriage, still somewhat of a controversial matter, legalized in the state of New York. Uranus is also the planet of equality and civil rights.

Again, purging, transforming Pluto (ruler of death and regeneration), stationed in utilitarian Capricorn, is a major player in today’s Eclipse, and grand cross, with the Sun and Moon in Cancer opposing it and both Uranus and Saturn squaring it. Pluto will likely have us, once again, reinventing or re-fashioning ourselves (maybe out of practical necessity). We may also discover things about ourselves (hopefully uncover some hidden strengths), that we never knew existed. Pluto characteristically speaks to the “depths of our experience.” It rules our subconscious. Basically, anything that is buried or hidden.

For instance, Pluto also rules mines, and on Wednesday, of this week, U.S. Labor Department officials announced that the Massey energy mine disaster, where 29 workers were killed more than a year ago, was preventable (from wsj.com). This finding also was released (coincidentally?) with the Sun exactly opposite to Pluto.

Too, with Pluto’s “eliminating” ray stoked, once again by the opposing Sun in Cancer, the Greek Parliament finally approved a five-year “austerity plan” for that country. Also, on our own “home front,” with this same planetary aspect, President Obama put pressure on Congress, to come up with a debt-reduction package. He also talked about ending certain tax breaks for “millionaires and billionaires.” Pluto additionally rules debt and taxes, and credit.

Pluto is also, however, not just about coping with less materially, or borrowing. It can also mean that we must pare down our range of activities, so that we can focus or concentrate our energies more. With both Pluto and Saturn, we tend to consolidate our forces.

One more thing, sort of interesting here and very applicable to today’s “home-related” Cancer eclipse. On Wednesday (again with the Cancer Sun opposite revelatory Pluto), a New York Times/CBS News Poll revealed that nearly 9 in 10 Americans say that “owning a home” is still an important part of the American dream, even though many also question it as a good investment, in wake of the brutal recession. (from NYT.com)

NEWS UPDATE Fri. afternoon 7/1: In Riverside County in California, the County Supervisor, Jeff Stone, is reportedly calling for as many as 13 southern counties in California to secede from the state and form a new state called “South California.” He reportedly proposed the idea late yesterday in a statement. I thought this proposal was fascinating, coming on the eve of the Cancer Eclipse, as Cancer rules matters of the land and state government. This “secession” also has shadows of rebel Uranus written all over it. And, Pluto, as Pluto transforms things and this would create another state.

Also, in Minnesota today, the state shut down over a budget deficit impasse (Pluto?).

Other “New Moon in Cancer” tie-ins: moving or changing residences; home remodeling or redecorating; having a yard or tag sale; matters involving homeless people and homeless shelters; self-nurturing; focusing on family issues or relationships (perhaps patching up difficulties); family reunions; outings or events with neighbors; involvement with local community activities;  genealogy research; baking, cooking, and trying out new recipes; buying home furniture or new home appliances; matters involving the restaurant or food industry; anything connected with grocery stores; food banks; matters pertaining to real estate and property investment; property tax issues; matters involving the hotel or hospitality industry; farming and agriculture; issues of homeland security and defense; acts of patriotism; doing gardening and yard work – time for planting above-ground crops (until the Full Moon); matters involving birth control, pregnancy, foster care, and adoption.

Happy Eclipse Day!

COSMIC WATCH:

“Question reality, especially if it contradicts the evidence of your hopes and dreams.”  ~Robert Brault

We have mental Mercury in vulnerable Cancer squaring off with stern, reality kingpin Saturn in balancing Libra. This is one of those days when we may need to earnestly strive to see the glass half-full, as naysayer Saturn tends to conjure up our doubts and fears. We begin to second-guess ourselves.

Not to worry, though. There is surely a patch of blue sky with sunshine around us somewhere. We just have to find a way to align our personal orbits so that they will eventually intersect with this more inspiring outcome. With Saturn’s narrowing ray stoked, it is often helpful to step outside of ourselves in a bid to gain wider perspective.

Also, we do have the Moon steeped in mystical, nirvana-seeking Pisces, which should be a blessing for us here. The Moon in Pisces also helps to inspire compassion in us. Too, we may want to remember to use some of this on ourselves now, as part of our own self-care.

In the Northern Hemisphere, it is also the day of the magical summer solstice (1:16 pm EDT), when the empowering Sun enters nurturing, nesting Cancer, where it will stay for the next month. This ingress also serves to sensitize our nature and gets us much more in touch with our feelings, as well as our nostalgic past. Our need to put down firm, stable roots, is very vital to us now, as we seek out activities or interests that make us feel more secure, with special emphasis centered on the home and family arenas.

“When you look at your life, your greatest happinesses are family happinesses.” Joyce Brothers

Astrology May 4, 2011: “Brake, Then Accelerate” Taurus and Gemini Moons

COSMIC WEATHER:

“To climb steep hills requires slow pace at first.” William Shakespeare

We are looking at, essentially, two days rolled into one today, as we have the slower-paced, void-of-course “money-hungry” Taurus Moon, in the morning, and then the faster-paced, Gemini Moon in the afternoon (1:09 pm EDT). It probably serves us well to sort of chill out during the a.m. hours (attend to mainly routine matters), and then crank things up a bit later, when the Moon enters nervous, restless Gemini, the sign of communication and travel.

Too, one “cosmic weather advisory” here: When the Moon first prances into fast-talker Gemini, it immediately forms a hippie square to psychedelic Neptune (2:30 pm EDT), holed up in “why can’t we all just get along” Pisces. On the plus side, the Moon-Neptune square can fill us with inspiration and imagination, and maybe compassion (is also an excellent time for meditation and prayer). But, on the shadow side, it can also bring about some weird stuff, too, such as crackpot visions, delusions of grandeur, massive denial, con-men entering into our orbit, etc. In general, a very good chance for temporary “mass confusion,” including massive difficulty in correctly picking the winning lotto numbers for tonight’s drawing. 🙂

However, the Neptunian veil does eventually lift and the stage is then set for some really cool scenarios to occur with the Moon’s sextile to progressive, “electrifying” Uranus in “race car” Aries (6:49 pm EDT), when we may be emotionally stimulated to the max and thrilled by the sudden (Uranus) turn of events. It is also a great time to take unique action that defines us and sets us apart as an individual (Uranus). Uranus governs our “urge for individuality.” Also, our “urge for personal freedom.”

BTW, President Barack Obama (a Leo Sun) has his natal Mercury at 2 degrees of Leo (Mercury rules the mind and decisions) and his natal Moon at 3 degrees of Gemini, just like the Moon today (Moon rules moods and public image), so “liberating” Uranus in militaristic Aries is exactly harmoniously trining his Mercury now, and also favorably sextiling his Moon. “Mercury-Uranus” often inclines us to make decisions that are perhaps bolder and, more controversial or rebellious in nature (Uranus), that may also break with tradition (Uranus), or are unprecedented. Uranus can also endow us with brilliant insights, when paired with “thinker” Mercury, as Uranus is the planet that is linked with genius, innovation, and scientific discovery. Uranus is also the “higher octave” of Mercury, and also governs flashes of intuition.

President Obama’s bold decision (Mercury), reportedly made last Friday, to raid Osama Bin Laden‘s compound (combative Aries action), was a sudden “game-changer” and “defining moment” (Uranus) for his presidency, and for the overall, general perception (Moon-Uranus) of his presidency. Too, that is how unpredictable Uranus tends to operate, when its ray is stoked. It strikes with a characteristic swiftness, and its impact can then often change the trajectory of future events forever. It has been symbolically likened to a “bolt of lightning” coming out of the blue.

Obama also simultaneously has transiting Pluto, symbolizing rebirth, trining his natal Pluto now, another long-term aspect which can also mark a time of major transformation. Also that same aspect can be a “test of one’s power” (Pluto), a test of how one wields influence and control (Pluto) in the world. Pluto also governs and depicts the masses, and events that impact the mass population. Of course, he also made his decision when the Sun was exactly trine Pluto, in the sky, on Friday, and Mars was conjunct Jupiter in Aries, an aspect of adventure.

Also, as I am writing this, a “New York Times/CBS News” poll has just been released showing a big rise in Obama’s poll numbers, among both Republicans and Independents, in wake of the killing of Osama Bin Laden. According to the poll, 57% approve of his job performance, compared to 46% last month. Although, 6 in 10 Americans polled felt that bin Laden’s death was likely to increase the threat of terrorism against the U.S. in the short-term. Let’s pray the latter, is not the case.

Famous Taurus Birthdays May 4: Randy Travis (52), late Audrey Hepburn (82)

Enjoy your day! Dare to be different (Moon-Uranus)! But, do be careful about imbibing too much of the Kool-Aid (Moon-Neptune) around mid-day. 🙂

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Life’s challenges are not suppose to paralyze you, they’re suppose to help you discover who you are.” Bernice Johnson Reagon

Mixed bag of nuts today. We have the potent “Mars square Pluto” aspect exact (4:36 pm EDT). This influence has been applying for the last several days. Mars, ruler of our self-assertion and drive, can passionately empower us to take on formidable challenges, when aligned with intense, controlling Pluto. Mars-Pluto is perennially linked with wanting to wield power and influence in the world. (Oprah Winfrey has this aspect exact in her personal horoscope.) We need to make sure, however, that we don’t overtax ourselves or surpass our limits with this aspect. Too, we would be very wise to avoid power struggles, shoving matches, taunting behavior, etc. On the shadow side, Mars-Pluto can awaken and unleash our “inner bully.”

Mars-Pluto can also be “very transforming” energy, with Pluto ruling regeneration. Again, as I mentioned the other day in my blog on Pluto stationing retrograde, this is an excellent time to “wipe the slate clean” and  to purge or eliminate what isn’t working in our lives.

Retrograde Mercury, ruler of our thoughts, is also back into an exact conjunction with “optimistic” Jupiter (11:59 pm EDT), ruler of philosophy and our higher beliefs and vision, academia, long-distance travel. On the plus side, the Mercury-Jupiter influence can make us more enthusiastic and upbeat, more high-minded in our thinking (a nice antidote for the Mars-Pluto “bully” mentality). Mercury-Jupiter is also an excellent time for writing.

The shadow side of this same aspect is we can become too boastful or arrogant (Jupiter). Too, with the Mars-Pluto aspect as a backdrop, this is probably not a good time to get into arguments over philosophical (Jupiter) differences, as they could very well escalate. Also, if we have any public presentations or speeches (Mercury) to make, we will want to make sure that we have “all the facts” straight ahead of time (Mercury-Jupiter tends to exaggerate), in case we later get “called on the carpet” (stickler Pluto). However, if we do diligently cover our bases, we could be very compelling and persuasive as a speaker (or writer) now, especially if we sprinkle in some of the famous “Jupiterian” humor.

BTW, do you think you have a good sense of humor? May want to check out the positioning of Jupiter in your chart and see how it’s linked up to the personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus or Mars; or the Ascendant; or 3rd or 9th houses) for further astrological insight and confirmation. We mentioned Oprah Winfrey earlier, she also has her Mercury (communication) trine Jupiter in her horoscope, so she has no problem seeing humor in things. Too, that endows her with natural ability to make people laugh. (Mercury-Jupiter is also the hallmark of a teacher or preacher.) Comedian David Letterman (who has a birthday tomorrow) also has his Mercury exactly trine his natal Jupiter. David is also a writer and that is excellent for that outlet. Funny man, and also writer, Woody Allen, has his Sun conjunct Jupiter, a similar influence-type influence, as does James Garner, who I have always regarded as very funny.)

“A sense of humor… is needed armor. Joy in one’s heart and some laughter on one’s lips is a sign that the person down deep has a pretty good grasp of life.” Hugh Sidey

Famous Birthdays April 11: Ethel Kennedy (83), Joel Grey (79)

In the News: With the potent “game-changing” Mars-Pluto aspect exact today, fascinatingly, one of the news headlines this morning is about President Obama’s big “press conference” that is slated for this Wednesday. Obama will be unveiling his package of proposed spending cuts for the future, including proposed cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, and changes to Social Security, in a bid to tackle this nation’s deficit crisis (Pluto rules debt). Higher taxes (ruled by Pluto) are also reportedly going to be proposed for the wealthy. (Wall Street Journal)

In announcing the details of his press conference, President Obama is also effectively “transforming” his image (the “reforming” Mars-Pluto energy) to a certain extent, by letting it be known that he is planning on shifting his policies around. Sometimes, too, with Mars-Pluto, we also suffer a “fierce backlash.” Surely there will be factions (the far left? the elderly?) who will not be pleased with his proposals.

Astrology April 9, 2011: Purging Pluto Stations Retrograde in Capricorn!

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Sometimes you have to let everything go – purge yourself if you are unhappy with anything…whatever is bringing you down, get rid of it. Because you’ll find that when you’re free, your true creativity, your true self comes out.” Tina Turner

Well, we would probably be very wise to heed Tina Turner’s advice today and consider eliminating “what isn’t working for us” now, as “bulldozing” Pluto, associated with death and rebirth, stations retrograde in “structural” Capricorn, the sign of business, career, and government. Pluto will stay retrograde until mid-September.

Purge, reform, renew, recycle, makeover, transform, de-clutter. These are all Pluto keywords and, again, they are all descriptive of the types of activities that we may want to consciously engage in now in a bid to “liberate” our true self. (Also, we need to pay attention to the house that Pluto is retrograding in, in our personal horoscopes, for more of a frame of reference regarding where the purging or renewing may be taking place for us on an individual level.)

Too, often around the time that a planet stations retrograde, is when we really glean the “real gist” of the cycle on an internal level. We may also simultaneously see “telling” things happening in the collective that reinforce these Pluto themes home to us now.

Also, this time around we have energizer Mars in “new beginnings” Aries applying to a potent square to Pluto (this aspect will be exact on Monday). Mars square Pluto can denote a time of intense, sustained effort that can really reconfigure the playing field around us. It is a time when we can notably get ahead, if we seriously apply ourselves. Pluto is very concentrated, focused energy and with enterprising Mars beaming down on it, this ‘focus” is potentially magnified or strengthened.

On the shadow side, this very same Mars-Pluto aspect can sometimes backfire for us and have very negative or destructive consequences, if we are acting too much on the level of ego (bereft of conscience), and are too controlling or forceful (Pluto) with respect to pushing our agendas at all cost, even in the face of mighty resistance.

We probably need to be reminded again, too, that Pluto does rule “the underworld.” It can also indicate “extremism” and extremist groups or factions, including terrorist elements. As I am writing this blog this morning, a top news headline is about a police search for a 61-year-old homeless man who is allegedly wanted in connection with the bombing of a synagogue on Thursday in Santa Monica, California. Suffice it to say, Pluto also rules bombs and explosive devices.

Pluto also rules “turning points” and with Mars in sports-ruling Aries (again the Mars-Pluto square), we saw baseball player, Manny Ramirez, suddenly retire yesterday after allegedly and reportedly failing a drug test in spring training. (Pluto’s activated ray often brings about “transparency,” it shines a spotlight on activities that have previously been hidden.) We are also awaiting a verdict in the Barry Bonds‘ perjury trial now.

On a more positive note, a shutdown of the U.S. government was also averted late last night as Democrats and Republicans finally agreed to a budget deal. Pluto rules debt and red ink and is stationed in governmental Capricorn. All week, we have heard graphic reports, too, of what a “scaled-down” (Pluto) U.S. government would look like. Also, this week, House Republican, Paul Ryan, who chairs the House Budget Committee, unveiled his own budget blueprint for a massive downsizing of the U.S. government that would also reportedly abolish Medicare and “gut” (Pluto) Medicaid. (Extremist Pluto at work?)

Astrology March 12, 2011: “Break With Routine” Moon in Gemini Horoscope

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Habit and routine have an unbelievable ability to waste and destroy.” Henri de Lubac

Now that “change-agent” Uranus has entered “new beginnings” Aries and the nurturing Moon is in curious Gemini, today is a good time to break with our normal routine to allow for new experiences. The Gemini Moon is all about learning, and demands a good dose of mental stimulation. Visiting a library or a bookstore, or taking in a movie with friends and then chatting about it afterwards, fits this Moon like a glove. Also favored are shorts trips and sightseeing. Or attending lectures and seminars.

Later, the Moon’s square to the contemplative Pisces Sun (6:46 pm EST) suggests that we may want to slow down our pace and go inward for reflection. Also, we may need to tune out discordant people or negative elements from our environment. This strategy also helps to conserve our energies. Sometimes with the Moon and Sun in stressful alignment, especially in the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) we tend to to scatter our resources, or get to feeling overwhelmed. That is why it is important, when feeling this way, to reunite with our center.

Famous Birthdays March 12: Liza Minnelli (65), Mitt Romney (64), James Taylor (63)

In the News: On the very same day that “rebel” Uranus moved into “sports-ruling” Aries, talks between the National Football League and its players union collapsed, with the players union reportedly filing paperwork in federal court to de-certify the union. The dispute is now on route to the courts. (WSJ.com)

COSMIC WEATHER:

The innovative Aquarius Moon may prompt us to think “outside the highly acclaimed box” today as a method of problem-solving. However, critical judge Saturn, in judicial Libra, is also forming a 150-degree stress aspect to idea maven Mercury in diffuse Pisces. This may mean that the supposed clever ideas that we are so diligently hatching may also have to be carefully weighed (Libra) for viability and utility (Saturn) before they can be released freely into the ether.

“Men are like stars; some generate their own light while others reflect the brilliance they receive.” Jose Marti

Famous Birthdays March 1st: Jon Bon Jovi (49), Bob Mackie (72)

In the News: The U.S. Government Accounting Office (GAO) released a 345-page report on Monday detailing billions of dollars in so-called redundant federal programs. The revelation of this report comes amid the potent “Jupiter square Pluto” aspect; Jupiter-Pluto could be interpreted here as spending or growth gone wild, with expansive Jupiter denoting bloating and excess and Pluto governing tax-payer dollars.

Additionally, with Jupiter-Pluto we may also sometimes become privy to classified or secret information; we had this aspect when WikiLeaks first unveiled thousands of classified documents on the war in Afghanistan late July 2010.

“Fanatics in power and the funnel of a tornado have this in common – the narrow path in which they move is marked by violence and destruction.” Oscar Otlund

Mars in Sagittarius square Jupiter in Pisces is exact on Monday, November 29th, 2010 (9:51 am EST), although this very potent influence is already applying and will be felt even for a few days after its exact.

At its noblest, Mars square Jupiter can galvanize us to take “heroic action.” Mars, the planet of energy and adventure, can signify “acts of courage” and “bravery.”  Aligned with expansive Jupiter, which symbolizes our “higher beliefs” and “philosophy of life,” we are more willing to “crusade” or “go to bat” for whatever it is that we believe in. We are on a quest for the truth. President Abraham Lincoln, for example, delivered the Gettysburg Address, perhaps the greatest, most inspiring speech in American history, with Mars and Jupiter exactly conjunct in the heavens. (Jupiter also rules political statesmen and public speaking.)

We also seem to have more physical energy at our disposal with this aspect, as expander Jupiter “enlarges” whatever it touches, and linked with energizer Mars, the energy in the body mounts proportionately. Mars-Jupiter could actually be characterized as more of a “manic” influence on the body, mind, and spirit, as our enthusiasm knows no bounds under its spell.

Mars-Jupiter is also associated with competitive sports and athletics, and gives us a great desire to want to excel and break records.  Our competitive spirit is very high with this energy. (Mars rules sports, exercise.)

A common pitfall to this aspect, though: we can go overboard, become too manic or driven, and end up plum wearing ourselves out physically, thereby, potentially injuring ourselves or weakening our body’s immune system.  So it is very important to temper and or restrain our actions, with this influence, and get proper rest and nutrition.

Mars placement in “forward-thinking” Sagittarius focuses our attention on the future.  It is visionary. We are thinking more about the long-term affects of our actions. We want to tender a lasting impact on the world, initiate disciples to follow our gospel. No surprise here that Sagittarius is also the sign associated with organized religion.

Of course, this Mars in Sag desire to tangibly shape the future is magnified that much more now with Mars’ alignment with preacher-teacher Jupiter, the natural ruler of Sagittarius. Jupiter, too, is tucked away in dreamy Pisces, which on the shadow side can be more “delusional” and “pie in the sky” Pollyanna.  Jupiter in Pisces doesn’t particularly care to break down and analyze its movements. Preferring instead, to operate “mainly on faith.”

Jupiter, too, although generally regarded as a benefic planet with seemingly positive impact for our lives, on the shadow side, it can make us a little too “full of ourselves,” if not outright arrogant, self-righteous, and extremist. Merged with manic Mars, we can very easily and fanatically ride roughshod over others’ beliefs or principles, feeling that we are justified in doing so, because we are only following “higher directives,” whatever that may mean. This smugness and perceived monopoly on the truth, of course, can end up being very dangerous, if allowed to run unchecked.

On a collective level now, too, we may want to pay closer attention to the world news, with this Mars-Jupiter “crusader’ influence as a galvanizing backdrop. We already have a volatile situation in North Korea where the rogue leader of that country appears to be pushing his own agenda, no matter the cost to the rest of the world. Mars rules war, so we must be careful now that Jupiter doesn’t stoke that flame.

Also, WikiLeaks founder is reportedly going to release hundreds of thousands of classified documents that U.S. officials are saying could endanger countless lives, pose security problems, and embarrass the U.S. and its allies.  Apparently, he is doing this to unveil “the truth,” regardless of the consequences. Sounding all very Mars-Jupiter to me, and if I may say, very fanatical. Sagittarius is also the sign of publishing.

Additionally, copious Jupiter in Pisces could denote information that is classified or hidden, as Pisces signifies what is submerged. Warrior Mars here aggressively bringing all this info to the surface. Too, Mars, as mentioned earlier, rules war and conflict, and reportedly much of this information to be released by Wikileaks pertains to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Jupiter symbolically “blabbing it away.”

Perhaps, in an effort to express the very best of this Mars-Jupiter aspect, it would probably be prudent for all of us to consciously try to detach or disengage ourselves from our personal agendas for a bit.  Get down off our soapbox long enough to see if the message or litany that we feel compelled to promote now is something that is really for the “greater good of all,” versus something that is really only feeding or glorifying our ego.  If we realize that it is more of the latter, then we may want to keep a lid on it and do something instead that will truly help lift others up, which is something that Mars-Jupiter energy is also excellent for. We need to keep in mind, too, what Abraham Lincoln did with this very same kind of energy.

Patricia’s Astrology Horoscope October 18, 2010: Little Green Men

COSMIC WEATHER:

The Maternal Moon is holed up in Spaced Out Pisces and baking “funny-smelling brownies” in the kitchen.

The Sun in Marital Libra is in a queer quinqunx relationship with Adipose Jupiter, who is also in Inebriated Pisces and down to his last six-pack of beer.  Jupiter is already starting to get the shakes at the prospect of not having enough beer to see him through the start of another work week.

Mental Mercury in Romantic Libra is trining Hallucinatory Neptune, the dreamy planet of fantasy.

Our imagination is fired up.  At any moment, we’re expecting to be visited by “little green men,” with Jupiterian weight issues, coming to take us away in a giant spaceship to see, none other than,  George Clooney.

“George, don’t nod off!  We’ll be there shortly, dear. By the way, do you need us to bring you anything?  Like maybe milk or bread?”

Have some fun today!  Escape into your Neptunian imagination. Dust off your wings and play upon the clouds. Romance stars.

The main caution again today, with another quinqunx to over-optimistic Jupiter, is the tendency to “bite off more than we can chew.”  This is not a good time to be over-committing ourselves or our resources. The “shadow side” of Jupiter has a natural tendency towards waste and excess.

The energy today also inclines us to pursue more mystical and otherworldly paths, as Neptune and the Moon in Pisces, both represent our link to the Divine. Our psychic abilities may also be keener. A good day for ESP experiments and also for examining our dreams.

Today’s Quote For The Day:

“There are no rules of architecture for a castle in the clouds.” G.K. Chesterton

On This Date In History:

On October 18, 1922 the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) forms. Mental Mercury, which rules reporting, was in “Fair and Balanced” Libra (like today) and also in aspect to Imaginative Neptune, which was in Leo, the sign of entertainment. Mercury-Neptune is a premier influence for being able to “weave magic through words and speech.” It is synonymous with story-telling. A lot of poets, writers, actors, artists and songwriters have Mercury-Neptune in their horoscopes. Mercury-Neptune provides us with a rich, inner vision.

Also, just like the present, the Airy, Intellectual Libra Sun was aligned with Expansive Jupiter, but this time it was a powerful conjunction aspect with the planet, as Jupiter was also in Libra. The Sun and Jupiter are the two largest bodies in our solar system and when you have them side by side with each other there is the potential for “big things to happen,” “big empires to be formed.” Jupiter characteristically “over-sizes” whatever it touches.  The nature of Philosophical Jupiter is also scholarly and academic, it wants to “broaden our horizons.” The Sun-Jupiter conjunction is perfect for an informative broadcasting outlet.

Speaking of broadcasting, Technology Wizard Uranus, which rules broadcasting, was in Idealistic Pisces and harmoniously trine to renovating Pluto in Parental Cancer. Uranus trine Pluto is a very transforming energy, and the BBC has had transformational impact on the collective as an authoritative dispenser of the news and events of the day.

Additionally, Ambitious Saturn was also in Libra ( like today) and exactly square to Master Spy Pluto, an aspect which is excellent for “ferreting out the truth.” Saturn gives form, structure, and discipline to Pluto’s depth. The Moon was also in Analytical Virgo, good for fact-finding information. Pioneering Mars in Business-Minded Capricorn was also square to the Sun, injecting strong enthusiasm and a trailblazing spirit to the operation. Mars gives a burning desire to “want to be first,” at whatever it does.
