COSMIC WEATHER:

“Identity is destiny.” Stephen Covey

We have a New Moon at 14 degrees of Aries today (10:33 am EDT). Aries, by the way, symbolically represents our “self-identity,” in reference to the Stephen Covey quote above. New Moons also signify “new beginnings,” and this one occurring here, in the first sign of the zodiac, is the equivalent of having a “double whammy,” as Aries denotes “new starts.”

Too, we just had “energizer” Mars, the ruler of Aries, re-enter its own sign yesterday, joining the Sun, Mercury, Jupiter and Uranus. Mars is also conjunct “liberating” Uranus today (4:52 pm EDT) in Aries, something that has not happened since May of 1932. Mars-Uranus is an electrifying, powerhouse of an aspect. It can be explosive, but it can also inspire genius and innovation.

Uranus also rules radio broadcasting and the last time these two planets paired up in adventurous Aries is exactly when late comedian Jack Benny‘s “radio program” debuted on the air (May 2, 1932). Benny was also an Aquarian (a sign ruled by Uranus). Jack Benny, with his comedic genius (Uranus) ended up being a pioneer (Aries) in the entertainment industry. He liberated many of us  from our sordid daily routines by making us laugh. His more rebellious, wacky brand of humor was highly original and had “Uranus” stamped all over it.

Also, a synchronistic, personal tie-in here to today’s Aries New Moon and also the Mars conjunct Uranus aspect: A few minutes ago, while I was still lying in bed listening to soft jazz on the radio, a song suddenly came over the radio with the powerful lyric, “As long as you are breathing, you can start all over again.” I had never heard this song before (don’t even know if that is the title of the song), but as soon as I heard it, I knew that I had just experienced, in an uncomplicated way, the basic essence of the New Moon in Aries: As long as we are alive, we all have the option of beginning anew!  Yes, this is true! Too, this came over the Uranus-ruled radio! So very cool.

Mars-Uranus is also an aspect which triumphantly proclaims and celebrates our uniqueness and individuality, strong support for the “identity-seeking” Aries New Moon. So, let’s start (Aries) something spectacular and grand today with our lives. Make the mighty contribution that only we alone can make. The New Moon’s opposition to “form-builder” Saturn also ensures that, if we are “serious” (Saturn) about creating new beginnings, we can do it!

“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” C.S. Lewis

“My problem lies with reconciling my gross habits with my net income.” Errol Flynn

Cosmic Weather:

Moon continues in acquisition-minded Taurus, which governs money, possessions, and what we esteem or value. Our values, too, can often be decoded by what we spend our money on. We may want to focus now on practical ways to build up our precious nest egg, while simultaneously luxuriating around the house in our silk pajamas eating bon-bons. The Venus-ruled Taurus Moon is all about seeking out decadent pleasure, creature comforts, indulging the physical senses, in addition to having to grapple with the often “weightier issue” of procuring material security, a matter which can often feel like having a big “noose around our neck,” especially in today’s challenging economic climate.

Things to think about today: Are we satisfied with our present financial situation? Do we have enough money coming into our household to meet our daily needs, and to also lead the lifestyle that we desire? Too, are we grateful for the things that we already have in our life? Are we managing our resources diligently, or do we squander our money? Are there any steps that we can maybe take now to make our lives more materially-secure?

Also, in our quest for material abundance, should we try, perhaps, to get on the Oprah Show, before she goes off the air, in hopes that she will be characteristically playing Santa again in the near future? Maybe we should also go so far as to suggest to Oprah, maybe through an email to her website, oprah.com, that she make every future Oprah show, this 2011 season, a yuletide-spirited “favorite things show,” since this is, sadly, her last go round (aside, of course, from OWN), and that lucky Jupiter is still technically and philanthropically aligned with Oprah’s ruling planet, Uranus, which also rules broadcasting (Oprah is an Aquarian). Point out to her that it is “clearly written in the stars” for her to keep playing a generous Santa-type role now, since Jupiter rules Santa Claus, and she is in Uranian-ruled broadcasting, and these two planets are together now.

Also, make her existentially aware of the fact that this same “Jupiter-Uranus configuration” is the very “believe in miracles” thing that she is always alluding to in her insightful, consciousness-raising dialogue with us. Don’t anyone say, either, that this is “too much of a stretch” here, about the possible Oprah involvement or rescue in our lives. We have all simply got to believe this, in order to achieve it! Jupiter-Uranus in visionary Pisces is about dreaming, and hope for a bright future, especially one with Hugh Jackman in Australia. We can’t help it if lovely, dear Oprah, just happens to be part of the equation. Simultaneously, we are very glad and thankful that she is. 🙂

It’s very cool, too, that when the magical Jupiter-Uranus aspect was exact to the minute last week, “St. Nick” Oprah publicly discussed making “Ted Williams,” an ex-radio announcer, the official voice of the OWN network. Not sure if this is going to happen, but we have got to love Ted’s timing! Surfacing when he did, thanks to that fortuitous, caring newspaper guy at the Columbus Dispatch, originally spotting him, and later going to bat for him by posting his encounter with Ted via a Pisces-ruled video on the Uranian-ruled internet. Uranus also rules radio announcers, with the Jupiter-Uranus aspect here, helping to miraculously sweeten Ted’s lot. So glad for all the success and love swirling around Ted Williams.

(Since originally writing the above on Monday, Ted has reportedly entered rehab for his alleged addiction problems. Apparently, with prompting from television’s Dr. Phil. Jupiter’s intrinsic nature can be protective, and aligned with Uranus, there can be a sudden “awakening” and swift movement in our affairs. Pisces also happens to govern rehabilitation and rehab centers. Neptune, Pisces’ ruler, is associated with addiction and dependencies.  Hopefully, Ted will now be able to acquire the care that his spirit maybe needs, so that he can continue positively on his path. To go from homelessness, to overnight celebrity on a world-stage, I believe, would be very stressful for most of us.

Another thing that I think has been enlightening about this Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Pisces now, on more of a collective basis, is that by hearing about Ted’s story, hearing about his struggles over the years, and his battle with his addictions, we are becoming keenly reminded again about the matter of addictions, a Pisces-related subject. (Too, of course, there has been the ongoing, high-profile story of Lindsey Lohan and her alleged addiction problems.)

So many of us privately suffer from addictions, whether to food, drugs, sex, etc. Also, ironically while writing/updating this right now, I just came across a news story that said that Oprah reportedly told Piers Morgan in an interview that she coped with depression, at one time, by eating “30 pounds of mac n’ cheese!” This overeating or binging by Oprah reportedly was a way of coping for her, in the face of her movie, “The Beloved,” flopping at the box office, sending her into a temporary, downward, emotional spiral. Also kind of weird here: Ted Williams just made those four Kraft Macaroni and Cheese commercials last week, as part of his newly-found fame. Could there be a possible Jupiter-Uranus connection to all this? The plot thickens! Or, would we be more technically correct here by saying, “the cheese melts?” 🙂 Hopefully, too, Oprah won’t be tempted again to fall off the wagon, with the mac n’ cheese, despite Ted’s inadvertently “rubbing her nose in it” by recording the commercials.

In addition to representing addictions, Pisces also denotes those persons who are disenfranchised or downtrodden. Or maybe confined, hidden away. Or people who are simply “down on their luck,” with their voices suppressed or muted, or problematic, for one reason or another. Perhaps some of these individuals lead more nomadic type lifestyles i.e. are homeless, like Ted Williams. Or, it could be that they are mentally or physically ill. Also, of course, there is the very tragic matter of that shooter in Tucson, allegedly suffering from serious mental illness, who has suddenly come on all our radar screens now in the worst possible way. The “Pisces” experience often symbolizes that part of life that we prefer not to think about, or psychologically visit. As it can show us our limitations, our afflictions. Our pain and desperation.

Pisces, as a level of experience, however, can also nobly point out to us the deep need, both individually and collectively, for having sympathy and extending compassion. Reminding us of the basic fact of life on the earth plane: That, in the end, we are all “our brother’s keeper.” That it is also not always a wise idea to prematurely “assign judgment or blame.” That we are all vulnerable, from time to time, in our lives. That we can also all thrive and benefit sometimes from an angelic, caring, helping hand. Sometimes even a simple smile, or a kind word, can give someone infinite hope and faith and help someone to rise above the ashes.)

“He who sows courtesy reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love.” St. Basil.

Patricia’s Astrology Horoscope November 7, 2010: All Aboard!

COSMIC WEATHER:

Moon enters “Faraway Lands” Sagittarius (3:28 am EST). Imploring us to “forget about doing the laundry,” for a while.  Or, “cleaning the toilet bowl.” We’re on a cosmically sanctioned mission now to escape the clutches of our dull, strangling, daily routines.  We must find a way to passionately do whatever “lifts us up” or “inspires us” today.

The “Forward-Thinking, Philosophical” Sagittarius Moon perennially kindles our desire for adventure, and for higher wisdom and learning. The Moon’s powerful conjunction with Pioneering Mars (4:43 pm EST) also serves to, temporarily, at least, put these desires in “overdrive.”

“Love Goddess” Venus also cascades back into “Cooperative, Gracious” Libra today (10:06 pm EST), a place where she is able to, once again, express the full reign of her many social graces, minus the emotionalism and possessiveness of Scorpio, where she has resided since early September. This Venus placement should help us to “patch up our difficulties” and make any “needed amends” with others. Libra is the sign of diplomacy. Venus will stay in Libra until November 30th.

Imaginative Neptune is also stationing “Direct today” in “Brotherly Love” Aquarius, encouraging us to move “full speed ahead” with our dreams and visions, a nice pairing with today’s uplifting Sagittarius Moon.  We may also want to pay closer attention to news involving matters that Neptune rules, including the sea and oil, drugs and pharma, and spiritual matters.

Activities highlighted today: Travel, writing, publishing, promotion, advertising, philosophy, religion, sports.

Quote for Today:

“Life is unchartered territory.  It reveals its story one moment at a time.” Leo F. Buscaglia

This Date in History:

On November 7, 1967, President Lyndon Baines Johnson signed a bill establishing the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Venus, indicating “what we love,” was in “Studious” Virgo and exactly conjoined with “Breakthrough Technology Guru” Uranus, the planet that rules broadcasting.

Also, “Communicator, News Reporter” Mercury was at 2 degrees of Investigative Scorpio exactly sextile to Opportunity Jupiter at 2 degrees of Analytical Virgo.  Jupiter expands upon and broadens whatever it is aligned with, and sextile to Mercury, it voluminously spreads the news and information.  Jupiter (which rules today’s Sagittarius Moon) also acts in such a way as to, hopefully, “inspire and elevate” the level of discussion.

People in the News:

Former President, George W. Bush, is in the news again, promoting his memoir, Decision Points. Fascinatingly, a quick peek at Bush’s horoscope shows” Expansive” Jupiter at 23 degrees of Pisces, exactly conjoined his 9th house cusp, the very sector of the chart that deals with book-writing and publishing! The ninth house also rules “self-promotion” and “advertising.” (The ninth house is naturally associated with the sign of Sagittarius, which is ruled by Jupiter.)

With “opportunity” Jupiter passing through his ninth house, it is an ideal period for Bush to be discussing and explaining his “philosophy of life” (a 9th house domain) and for providing “personal context” for his past actions and strategies.

Patricia’s Astrology Horoscope October 18, 2010: Little Green Men

COSMIC WEATHER:

The Maternal Moon is holed up in Spaced Out Pisces and baking “funny-smelling brownies” in the kitchen.

The Sun in Marital Libra is in a queer quinqunx relationship with Adipose Jupiter, who is also in Inebriated Pisces and down to his last six-pack of beer.  Jupiter is already starting to get the shakes at the prospect of not having enough beer to see him through the start of another work week.

Mental Mercury in Romantic Libra is trining Hallucinatory Neptune, the dreamy planet of fantasy.

Our imagination is fired up.  At any moment, we’re expecting to be visited by “little green men,” with Jupiterian weight issues, coming to take us away in a giant spaceship to see, none other than,  George Clooney.

“George, don’t nod off!  We’ll be there shortly, dear. By the way, do you need us to bring you anything?  Like maybe milk or bread?”

Have some fun today!  Escape into your Neptunian imagination. Dust off your wings and play upon the clouds. Romance stars.

The main caution again today, with another quinqunx to over-optimistic Jupiter, is the tendency to “bite off more than we can chew.”  This is not a good time to be over-committing ourselves or our resources. The “shadow side” of Jupiter has a natural tendency towards waste and excess.

The energy today also inclines us to pursue more mystical and otherworldly paths, as Neptune and the Moon in Pisces, both represent our link to the Divine. Our psychic abilities may also be keener. A good day for ESP experiments and also for examining our dreams.

Today’s Quote For The Day:

“There are no rules of architecture for a castle in the clouds.” G.K. Chesterton

On This Date In History:

On October 18, 1922 the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) forms. Mental Mercury, which rules reporting, was in “Fair and Balanced” Libra (like today) and also in aspect to Imaginative Neptune, which was in Leo, the sign of entertainment. Mercury-Neptune is a premier influence for being able to “weave magic through words and speech.” It is synonymous with story-telling. A lot of poets, writers, actors, artists and songwriters have Mercury-Neptune in their horoscopes. Mercury-Neptune provides us with a rich, inner vision.

Also, just like the present, the Airy, Intellectual Libra Sun was aligned with Expansive Jupiter, but this time it was a powerful conjunction aspect with the planet, as Jupiter was also in Libra. The Sun and Jupiter are the two largest bodies in our solar system and when you have them side by side with each other there is the potential for “big things to happen,” “big empires to be formed.” Jupiter characteristically “over-sizes” whatever it touches.  The nature of Philosophical Jupiter is also scholarly and academic, it wants to “broaden our horizons.” The Sun-Jupiter conjunction is perfect for an informative broadcasting outlet.

Speaking of broadcasting, Technology Wizard Uranus, which rules broadcasting, was in Idealistic Pisces and harmoniously trine to renovating Pluto in Parental Cancer. Uranus trine Pluto is a very transforming energy, and the BBC has had transformational impact on the collective as an authoritative dispenser of the news and events of the day.

Additionally, Ambitious Saturn was also in Libra ( like today) and exactly square to Master Spy Pluto, an aspect which is excellent for “ferreting out the truth.” Saturn gives form, structure, and discipline to Pluto’s depth. The Moon was also in Analytical Virgo, good for fact-finding information. Pioneering Mars in Business-Minded Capricorn was also square to the Sun, injecting strong enthusiasm and a trailblazing spirit to the operation. Mars gives a burning desire to “want to be first,” at whatever it does.

“To invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk.” Thomas Edison (Aquarian)

The Moon ventures into innovative Aquarius (1:08 am EDT), shortly thereafter aligning with rebel Uranus in Aries.  We’re more inclined to want to break some rules today and stretch beyond our current limits.  Towing the status quo is of far less status and consequence to us now.  We want to change things up and make some waves.

Speaking of waves, it was thirty years ago today, June 1, 1980, that Ted Turner’s CNN (Cable News Network) hit the airwaves.

At the time of the debut, the Sun (the core of the enterprise) was in the newsaholic sign of Gemini (Gemini rules news reporting and information-gathering) and in an exact square to pioneering Mars in perceptive Virgo. Sun-Mars days typically usher in new beginnings. The Sun-Mars energy also gives a sense of urgency and adventure, along with a desire to want to go and be where the action (Mars) is. Mars rules the aggressive urge.

Gemini’s planetary ruler, Mercury, which governs speech and communication, was also exactly sextile to long-winded Jupiter, the planet of opportunity and expansion.  With Mercury-Jupiter, there would never be a loss for words or things to report on for CNN.  Jupiter oversizes everything it touches and connected to “Winged Messenger” Mercury it can yield the proverbial “diarrhea of the mouth,” hence the need for 24/7 news coverage.

When CNN launched, expansive Jupiter was in Virgo, along with Mars and Saturn.  Virgo is perfect for in-depth news analysis, as this sign is all about dissecting the facts and information that Gemini has collected.  The descriptive keyword for Virgo is “analysis.” In the physical body, Virgo rules the intestines, the part of the body that breaks down food particles so that they may be digested.

Practical, stabilizing Saturn was also in a supportive sextile to inventive Uranus in transforming Scorpio.  Uranus rules television broadcasting.  Saturn here provided firm footing for the new Uranian venture. You always want to have positive Saturn aspects, as Saturn gives longevity and worldly success.

Additionally, Saturn was exactly square to Neptune in Sagittarius, the sign of long-distance travel and faraway lands.  Neptune rules images and television cameras. CNN became a pioneering platform for broadcasting news images from around the world.

From the beginning, CNN also helped build and fostered a sense of Neptunian oneness.  Neptune is all about dissolving the borders that separate us, both personally and collectively. With CNN, we were finally able to see and hear about what was going on around the world and I think that made us feel more connected in our humanity.

Happy Birthday to you, CNN! We are so glad for your success and we appreciate all that you have done for the world in the way of stellar news coverage. (Also a big shout out to that really cute, Gemini reporter, Anderson Cooper.)

Other June 1st Gemini Birthdays: Marilyn Monroe and Andy Griffith (born on the very same day).

Enjoy your Tuesday. Make some exciting news of your own today.
