The Moon continues yet another day with her head down in “probing, disrobing” Scorpio. If you look up in the sky tonight, and see she’s also wearing dark shades, don’t be alarmed. She’s just in her “Darth Vader” Pluto costume mode (Pluto rules Scorpio). Trying to be anonymous.
Normally, the Moon in “secretive” Scorpio has the net affect of shutting us up, but today, we also have chatty Mercury in “appearances are important” Capricorn forming a quintile to “blabbermouth” Jupiter in “race car” Aries. We may have a special way with words today (quintiles reveal talents), but, of course, with Jupiter involved we could be running over at the mouth a bit. Not anything too excessive, mind you, as we do again have that “let me stare your face off ” Scorpio Moon. Also, Mercury is still separating from that square to Saturn, from the day before, that tends to put a damper on our verbal expression. Saturn forces us to use as few words as possible, so Mercury is still dealing with some of that parsimonious trauma.
One thing about the Scorpio Moon: It is never wimpy. It also gives us an enhanced thirst for power and control, and the Moon’s semi-square to Pluto (at 10:18 am EST) may be when this desire is most notable. Too, we have the “illuminating” Sun getting closer to an exact conjunction to self-assertive Mars in social media Aquarius (Monday). That once a year aspect is usually a pretty big deal and indicative of major power plays, coup d’etats. All of our ego needs are red hot with that influence. We may already be starting to feel this energy somewhat, especially if we are a member of the U.S. Congress. 🙂

COSMIC WEATHER: January 11th through the 16th
Mental Mercury (communication) and manic Mars (aggressive urge) are hogging most of the astrological press this week. That’s okay. We’ll respectfully give them their fifteen minutes.
Mercury wraps up its stay in visionary Sagittarius, dutifully heading for the ambitious, goat-studded hills of Saturn-ruled Capricorn (January 13th). Our thoughts become more practical, more focused.
Also, self-assertive Mars shifts out of conforming Capricorn for Aquarius’ more non-conforming terrain (January 15th), which is psychedelically-peppered, at this time, with aging hippies, awkwardly still trying to “do their own thing,” despite all the intense years of pot-smoking and skinny-dipping. Uranus-ruled Aquarius, a sign that likes to wickedly “bend the rules,” fully embraces diversity, even the die-hard, hippie kind. It’s probably a good thing, too, that the hippies at least have a place to go to, a sign to “call home.”
With Mars in Aquarius now, too, it’s possible that we could even temporarily befriend one or two of these tie-dyed beings. Maybe help them to find their way, or whatever it is that they still are looking for. Maybe another Woodstock? Could be they are sticking around to see the re-emergence of bell-bottoms as a major, hot fashion trend?
January 11th: Talker Mercury meets up with big hips Jupiter in blabbermouth Sagittarius. The end result: No one gets to have the last word on anything! Steady diet of redundant chatter permeates the air everywhere. Unless we have plenty of time on our hands, it’s best to refrain from asking anyone about their personal religious or political beliefs, or about anything controversial, for that matter, as we will likely be going at each other’s throat until the cows come home. Too, we tend to zealously over-estimate our humble abilities now, i.e. bite off more than we can chew, both literally and symbolically.
Also, we need to carefully, and systematically, scrutinize documents and contracts closely, before putting our ‘John or Mary Doe’ on them. With Mercury-Jupiter, we tend to “gloss over details,” as we’re thinking too much about the “big picture.” Mercury-Jupiter is all too often linked with misunderstandings because we tend to get sloppy or arrogant in our thinking and assume too much.
Moon in pioneering Aries still has us “blazing new trails,” although the opposition to taskmaster Saturn (8:48 pm EST) may temporarily put a roadblock in our path.
Questions to ask ourselves today: Do we tend to talk too much? Often put our foot in our mouth? What shuts us up quickly? What is our favorite topic to talk about?
January 12th: We are much more likely to feel comfortable taking unorthodox approaches with things, especially on the professional front, as we have enterprising Mars in industrious Capricorn sextile to innovative, freedom-seeking Uranus in creative Pisces. Job seekers may want to try new strategies today, particularly utilizing opportunities provided by social networking (Uranus rules the internet).
We all tend to shine more by inserting our clever originality into the picture, instead of mindlessly subscribing to the fuddy duddy status quo. The Universe is beckoning, actually clamoring for us today, to deviate from the norm. To venture outside of our cozy, designer-decorated boxes. Too, if we are up to serious mingling with others, we may get a chance to interface with highly progressive types, who can really move us forward, with their ingenious, if not wacky, off-the-wall ways of thinking.
For those of us who still maintain an active, or even a semi-active sex life (ruled by Mars), that intimate activity could possibly become more exciting now by trying out new, inventive “night moves” in the bedroom. Or, we may want to continue doing the same, sexy little things that we always do under the sheets, but with new lovers. Mars-Uranus likes to experiment, and also endows us with more of a scientific bent. Just pray that white laboratory mice don’t somehow enter into our nighttime equation.
The Moon also vacates accelerator Aries for lusty, self-indulgent Taurus (10:37 pm EST), which also may help our feverish, nocturnal meanderings. Chocolate, too, may be an especially heady aphrodisiac now. (Moon is in Taurus till the 15th.)
Probing questions to consider today: What is sex? Is it something we engaged in at one time with another person? Is there anything we can do now to hasten the return of it to our lives, now that we finally have this sexy Mars aspect beaming down upon us?
January 13th: Our enthusiasm knows no bounds as sexy, go-getter Mars sextiles fortuitous, expansive Jupiter, who is likely toting a large bag of goodies for us. This is a super aspect! Great time to forge ahead with important projects, get things done, especially anything business-related, as Mars is still in ambitious Capricorn, which rules status, career, and reputation. Also a more positive time for dealing with bankers, members of the military, politicians, journalists, writers, publishers, lawyers, teachers, travel agents, clergy, and athletes. Physical fitness and sports-related activities additionally get the green light. We’re loving competition now, as it gives us a golden chance to strut our hot stuff all over the place!
Our thoughts also become more pragmatic and serious today with Mercury’s return to utilitarian Capricorn, where it will stay until February 3rd. We excel now by adopting a communication style that is more purposeful and strategizing. It is also critical now that we let others know exactly what it is that we are hoping to accomplish with respect to our major goals. A time to enlist the support of higher-ups to our causes.

January 14th: Moon continues in acquisition-minded Taurus. We may want to focus on ways to build up our nest egg, while simultaneously luxuriating around the house in our silk pajamas. The Taurus Moon is all about creature comforts. Also a good time to work with the earth, or for fashioning things from clay.
Things to think about today: Are we satisfied with our present financial situation? Do we have enough money coming in to meet our needs? Are there any steps that we can take now to make us feel more secure? In our quest for material security, should we try to perhaps get on the Oprah Show, before she goes off the air, in hopes that she will be characteristically playing Santa again in the near future? Maybe we should also go so far as to suggest to Oprah that she make every future Oprah show, this 2011 season, a “favorite things show,” since this is her last go round and lucky Jupiter is still technically aligned with Oprah’s ruling planet, Uranus, which also rules broadcasting (Oprah is an Aquarian). Point out to her that it is “clearly written in the stars” for her to keep playing Santa now, since Jupiter rules Santa Claus, and she is in Uranian-ruled broadcasting. Tell her that this Jupiter-Uranus configuration is the very “believe in miracles” aspect that she is always talking about.
It’s very cool, too, that with the Jupiter-Uranus aspect exact to the minute last week, “St. Nick” Oprah publicly discussed making “Ted Williams,” an ex-radio announcer, the official voice of the OWN network. Got to love Ted’s timing! Uranus rules radio announcers, with the Jupiter-Uranus here, helping to miraculously sweeten their lot in in life. January 15th: Pioneering Mars takes the plunge and skyrockets into hi-tech, futuristic Aquarius. We are eager to venture off into unchartered waters. Progress is made by embracing change in our daily lives and collaborating with original thinkers, more non-comforming types. We may want to expand our networking efforts now and also get involved more with group causes, or group ventures. Form new friendships, make new acquaintances (all Aquarius ruled).
The Moon also enters curious, loquacious Gemini. A plus for the more impromptu, convention-defying Mars in intellectual Aquarius. The Gemini Moon provides us with flexibility and more of a willingness to go with the flow. Incorporating change is more doable with the Moon here. We’re not as rigid now. We also have more of a capacity to see the humor in any situation. A positive element that often gets downplayed, but can come in very handy for coping with the mighty stress and woes of living in a material world.

No matter whether or not there is a worthwhile component to the info. It’s the gathering process, the collecting of data, which is most important to the Gemini Moon. Reading, conversation, short trips can stimulate now. Great time for any sales or cold-calling activity, or for matters of self-promotion.
Later, an important bond or tie could also be formed with the Moon’s magical trine to stabilizing Saturn in partnership Libra (3:47 pm EST). A perfect time then to communicate our more serious intentions.

Anyone feeling a tinge of sadness today because another sizzlin’ hot eclipse day has come and gone? Sort of like the party’s over upstairs. Everyone has packed up and left, and now it’s back to business as usual for the Sun, Moon, and the rest of the gang. But what the heck is going on with all of these dead blackbirds falling mysteriously from the sky in Arkansas? And now yesterday, in Louisiana, thousands of more dead blackbirds. Really weird. Also, thousands of dead fish in the Arkansas River. Some people believe it’s UFO-related. Who knows, it could be? Or, maybe it’s the Capricorn eclipse? Historically, some scary things have happened around eclipses. Too, the Republicans are poised to take over the U.S. House today when the new Congress convenes. Some see that as a cataclysmic event. Many of the new House memebers have never held an elected office before. Of course, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Regardless of all these myriad elements, we do have some very cool lunar aspects today. Early on in the day, the ambitious Capricorn Moon throws harmonious aspects to inventive Uranus (5:30 am EST), visionary Jupiter (5:43 am EST) and love child Venus (7:16 am EST). It might be worth our while to put those aspects to use doing some creative project work, if we’re even awake then. Our intuition (Uranus) should be particularly strong. Of course, with sexy Venus still in naughty Scorpio, we may want to employ some of this clever ESP, under the sheets, in locating desired objects!
The Moon also enters “group-minded” Aquarius today (at 11:08 am EST), a time when we should forget about being an island, for a while, and go mingle instead. Aquarius denotes friends and acquaintances, groups, clubs, networking, and social causes. Also the internet. We additionally still have the tight conjunction going on between fortuitous Jupiter and genius Uranus (ruler of Aquarius) in fantasy Pisces. It may be crucial for us to seek out personally transforming activities (Pluto) now, that help us to grow beyond our normal boundaries, or that help us to redefine ourselves (Pluto). There may also be a real need or desire to pioneer and blaze new trails (Mars). This may especially be the case on the career or professional front (Capricorn).

On the shadow side of this highly volatile line-up of energy, and this line-up is very high-wattage, we can easily overreact and overdo, and physically and mentally exhaust ourselves in the process. Mars rules the physical energy in the body, and in alignment with intense Pluto, we tend to extend ourselves to the extreme. We become too stretched.
It is also easier for us now to become embroiled in heated arguments and quick-tempered disputes (Mercury-Mars), particularly bitter, manipulative power struggles (Mars-Pluto). Often with Mars-Pluto we act obsessively in ways that we don’t quite understand, as we are expressing needs and desires that are deep-seated in origin, that have been buried inside, and these things are consciously, for the most part, often unrecognized or misunderstood by us. If we see that more of the negative manifestation of this energy is playing out around us today, especially if we feel like lashing out for no good reason, we may need to find a way to disengage ourselves, while simultaneously searching for more inclusive strategies for compromise, or cooperation with others. This triple conjunction energy can be very healing today, but only if we choose to tap into it in enlightened, non self-serving ways. That is the key.

On This Day in History: On September 9, 1971, John Lennon releases his “Imagine” album. Warrior Mars is stationing direct in Humanitarian Aquarius harmoniously trining Futuristic Uranus (ruler of Aquarius) in Peace-Loving Libra. “Mars-Uranus” in the air signs is all about ushering in a “new social order of the day.”
Mental Mercury is at 29 degrees of Entertaining Leo, a critical degree of creative self-expression, exactly squaring Expansive Jupiter at 29 degrees of Transformational Scorpio (another “turning-point” degree). Mercury was also squaring Dreamy Neptune, just one degree away from Jupiter, at 0 degrees of Optimistic Sagittarius. The intellectual milieu or mindset of this day (Mercury) was very ambitious and lofty (Jupiter conjunct Neptune). Concerned with focusing on the “unifying big picture.”
A Jupiter and Neptune conjunction is always, at its noblest, a very mystical, inspirational time, if not somewhat surrealistic, as Jupiter rules the urge for expansion and Otherworldly Neptune rules the expression of the divine. We are theoretically able to channel in “the most splendid way,” our higher impulses, when this particular aspect is in effect. Neptune also symbolically represents a “dissolution of all boundaries,” effectively “living as one,” which is what “Imagine’s” lyrics are, of course, centered around.
Needless to say, the energy in the sky, the day the “Imagine” album was released, was ideally very “conducive” for the manifestation of “peaceful conditions,” and for contemplating the “imagined dawning” of a new “brotherhood of man.” With the album released on that day in time, too, those energies of that time period will always be connected, or “celestially stamped,” with the “Imagine” album, similar to how a horoscope works for an individual.
Interestingly, the “Mars-Neptune” energy that we have today is similar to the energy that we had back then. It’s very transcendent and powerful in nature. Mars serves to aggressively activate and fuel the Neptunian portals of our imagination, and also provides us with a deep longing and desire for inclusion into the perceived “higher realms,” where we all purportedly live and move “as one.” This Mars-Neptune energy is also extremely creative, in addition to being very spiritual. Fascinatingly, John Lennon also had “Mars conjunct Neptune” in his personal horoscope and was born under the sun-sign of Libra, “the peacemaker.”

It’s Day Two of the “wanting-to-be-chatty” Moon in Gemini.
Instead, we’re going more than a little batty.
This time the culprit is the Sun, instead of black holes or clouds.
The Coronal Mass Ejections from the Sun are striking the Earth’s electro-magnetic field and slowly, but surely, they’re wiping out all the telephone lines on the planet.
We keep trying to call our friends to chat, our therapists to schedule “talk therapy,” but all we get is:
‘All circuits are busy now. Please hang up and dial your call later. After the Cardinal-T Cross has passed. Goodbye!’
What makes it even more frustrating: It’s the one day that George Clooney was planning on giving us a call!

According to a new USA Today/Gallop poll released Wednesday, President Barack Obama’s approval ratings have reportedly hit all time lows and have dropped across the board.
In astrology, Venus governs our “power of attraction,” so it would be pivotal here. A look at President Obama’s horoscope shows that his natal Venus is at 1 degree of Cancer. That means his Venus is being exactly hounded (squared) now by Saturn, at 1 degree of Libra. Saturn, the restrictive principal, is associated with separations and losses. When Saturn is aligned with Venus, the love planet, we often feel “cut off from others” and it is correspondingly harder for others to relate to us.
If it’s any consolation, President, we still like you. However, you may want to think about changing your cologne.
Also on Wednesday, a federal judge overturned California’s “same-sex marriage ban” in a landmark case that will likely end up in the Supreme Court to decide if gays have a right to marry in the U.S. With Energizer Mars and Achievement Saturn now newly-installed in marital Libra, and conjunct for the first time since 1982, and also both part of the game-changing Cardinal T-Cross, it is not surprising that this matter has been overturned. Saturn in Libra is also still in a tight opposition to Uranus in pioneering Aries (part of the cross), with Uranus ruling equality and gay rights issues. Libra governs the courts and justice, in addition to marriage.
Billionaire investor, Warren Buffett, announced Wednesday the names of 40 of America’s wealthiest families and individuals who have signed on to the “Giving Pledge,” a charitable group that seeks to get billionaires to pledge to donate the bulk of their wealth to charitable causes. I thought this story really tied in with the current “Jupiter square Pluto” aspect. Jupiter rules abundance and when aligned with Pluto, it can mean abundance on a mass scale. Jupiter-Pluto is a classic signature of “mega-money.”
