Today’s more penetrating Mars-Pluto sextile (exact at 8:18 pm) suggests that it may be easier now to align with our deepest desires as well as hidden motivations (Pluto signifies the subconscious) and, as a consequence, ideally be able to implement or manifest conditions around us that are more congruent with who we are at our core. Kind of like being able to adjust our radio dial to the exact frequency that we vibrate to so there is little to no interference.

Too, it may be an especially good time to engage ourselves with projects that we can get lost in for hours – in other words, that put us “in the zone” – because these types of all-encompassing activities tend to fully replenish our body, mind, and spirit. Mars-Pluto energy is widely perceived to equip us with a heightened ability to focus our time, attention, and resources.

On This Day in History: On November 21, 1989, a law banning smoking on most domestic flights is signed by US President George H. Bush.

Astrologically, that day, action-oriented Mars was applying to a conjunction with Pluto in the transformational sign of Scorpio (an influence similar to what we have today). This planetary alignment is usually regarded as motivating us to tackle more consequential projects or undertakings often in a bid to dramatically reshape or alter the playing field around us. Mars was also nearly exactly sextile to a Neptune and Saturn conjunction in Saturn-ruled Capricorn. Dissolving Neptune rules, among other things, drugs and substance abuse issues, while ringed planet Saturn represents our ability to set limits or put restrictions around matters. Capricorn also rules government intervention.

This Thursday morning intellectual Mercury conjuncts exacting Saturn in “doubting Thomas” Aquarius (9:34 am). This may possibly inject more gravity, skepticism, or cautiousness into our thinking, words, or communications.

Since our mental focus is perceived to be more narrowed or concentrated now, it can often be a good period to comb through the fine details of matters. Particularly, perhaps, looking for the weaknesses or vulnerabilities in things.

It is also possible now that we are wrapping up or finishing a final review of something as this conjunction is coming at the 29th (or anaretic) degree of Aquarius.

Today’s annual Mercury-Saturn conjunction is also occurring with love goddess Venus and big-hearted Jupiter affectionately paired up in the sky in adventurous Aries (12:36 am). Suggesting we are also poised and ready for adding something new or bold to our lives that ideally affords us more personal freedom and self-expression. It can also be a propitious time to expand our sphere of relationships as well as to immerse ourselves in social activities.

Later this afternoon, Mercury will also enter dreamy, idealistic Pisces (5:52 pm) for a 16-day stay.

On This Day in History: On March 2, 1965, one of the most popular films of all time, The Sound of Music, starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, premiers (Academy Awards Best Picture, 1966).

Astrologically, that day, there was a stellium of five planets (plus Chiron) in creative Pisces, the sign associated with filmmaking or visual imagery.

Mental Mercury in Pisces was also applying to an exact trine to imaginative Neptune in potent Scorpio, the modern-day ruler of Pisces.

Mars in craftsmanship Virgo was also sextile Neptune as well as trine to expansive Jupiter in the financial and artistic sign of Taurus. Mars-Jupiter aspects tend to generate or correlate with mega amounts of enthusiasm and passion for our endeavors, while the Mars-Neptune energy can help us to skillfully manifest our dreams or visions, so that they become very real to us.

Our Monday gets underway with the waxing Moon in “keeping it real” Capricorn! Employing tried-and-true methods or strategies that have delivered solid results for us in the past may feel like the best way to play the day.

Luna will also be having its monthly meetup with intense Pluto this evening (6:11 pm), which may prime us to go after our desires with increased passion or focus.

Moon-Pluto energy is also viewed as a good time for de-weeding; taking out the trash; recycling or renovating; going antiquing/treasure-hunting; performing archeological digs.

Numerologically, today (8-12-2019) reduces down to both a “3” and a “5”. The “3” aspect suggests some reverence for traditionalism or history. It can also incline us to want to ambitiously climb to the top of the totem pole! The “5” element also potentially injects an impulsive quality to the day, and a changeability.

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY:

On August 12, 1972, the last American combat troops leave Vietnam, marking the end of direct U.S. military involvement in the conflict.

Quite notably that day, astrologically, assertive Mars – symbolizing war and the military – was at 29 degrees of authoritative Leo and forming an exact waning trine to philosophical Jupiter Rx at 29 degrees of futuristic Sagittarius; Sagittarius is also associated with foreign lands or cultures.

In astrology, when planets are at 29 degrees of a sign they are viewed as potentially being at a critical juncture, including suggesting more of an urgency to wrap things up.

The waning trine itself also points to matters (the Martian military campaign) nearing an end and, correspondingly, moving in a new direction (Jupiter).

We have a trio of major aspects now heading into Monday’s Lunar Eclipse Full Moon in Leo:

Venus in Sagittarius trines Mars in Aries (11:50 am): Venus and Mars are billed as the Cosmic Lovers so the prospects for romance may be elevated today! 🙂

In general, this is more playful energy. A good day to simply enjoy ourselves. To engage in whatever activities are fun for us or that bring us pleasure. It’s an excellent time to express our emotions, to show others what’s in our heart. There’s a nice give and take now between the sexes.

Mercury conjuncts Pluto in Capricorn (3:01 pm): This aspect is thought to be excellent for concentration. Also, for figuring out or unraveling mysteries. (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of detective Sherlock Holmes, was born with a tight Mercury and Pluto conjunction in Taurus.)

Our words may also deliver more power or impact now.

Sun in Capricorn squares Uranus in Aries (8:30 pm): When these two heavenly bodies square off with each other, it’s always a good idea to be prepared for the unexpected! If we’re wise, we’ll also want to make sure we have Plan B ready to whip out today, just in case things don’t go as scheduled.

Sun in conservative Capricorn is more of a traditionalist at heart, usually interested in achieving things like security and status, while Uranus in Aries is more interested in trailblazing and expressing its true individuality. So, we potentially have that type of internal clash going on today.  Typically, Sun square Uranus can make us more bored with our routines, more eager for variety.

The Moon also continues in flexible, curious Gemini today. An energy that supports the playfulness of the Venus and Mars, the mental probing of the Mercury-Pluto, and the desire for change that the Sun-Uranus is clamoring for.

COSMIC WATCH:

Clarity of mind can be a big game changer for us. Because when we have it, we usually spend much less time second-guessing or doubting ourselves. Which means that we automatically have more energy at our disposal to gravitate toward other things, including perhaps making progress toward our dreams.

In today’s cosmic lineup, intellectual Mercury – which is already considered strengthened by being in analytical Virgo – is trine to transforming, perceptive Pluto. Ideally helping us to gain a greater level of clarity or understanding depending upon what it is we are focusing on. We may be able see things now that we haven’t been able to see before, for whatever reason.

Also, it’s perhaps worth pointing out that sometimes even the slightest alteration in our perceptions can end up having major consequences for our lives, which I’m sure we’ve all experienced, at one time or the other.

Additionally, the greater awareness that is floating up to our consciousness now can also possibly translate into our being able to communicate with others more persuasively and with more conviction or certainty.
