Cosmic Weather:

“Throw your dreams into space like a kite, and you do not know what it will bring back, a new life, a new friend, a new love, a new country.” – Anais Nin

No matter that many of us in the U.S. may be bummed out by the brutal cold weather that has currently hijacked much of the country, making holiday travel very difficult – even treacherous or impossible in some regions – today’s astrology still suggests that we may want to consider hitching either our wagon or SUV to a twinkling star and making a wish as thinker Mercury in Scrooge-minded Capricorn forms a magical sextile to transcendental Neptune in fairy-tale Pisces (8:17 pm), suggesting that the veil between worlds is thinner now.

Who knows, this more forgiving, envisioning aspect may even convince Santa to overlook our myriad transgressions, this past year, and charitably leave us something under the tree tonight other than the usual lump of coal in our stockings. 🙂

Mercury-Neptune is excellent for any type of creative work as it may more readily propel us into a state of dreaminess or relaxed consciousness. At the same time, Mercury in organizing, practical Capricorn can help add definition or form to any of the byproducts that visionary Neptune conjures up. We may also want to keep a journal by our bed tonight, as this influence can give rise to very vivid nocturnal dreams as well. What is also interesting about our dreams, and their particular content, is that they often seem to mirror, in symbolic fashion, the astrological themes of the moment.

Due to Mercury stationing retrograde on December 29, we will also have this Mercury-Neptune aspect two more times – on January 2 and February 6 – suggesting something that we undertake today may be put aside and sent back to the drawing board for a redo, before it is finally awarded its angel wings.

*All times EST

On This Day in History: On December 24, 1955, NORAD’s Santa tracking service begins. The event is now a Christmas tradition where the North American Aerospace Defense Command tracks Santa Claus as he travels around the world delivering presents to children. The event began after a printing error in a Sears catalog asking children to call Santa Claus. The number that was printed was the number of Colorado Springs’ Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD) Center. (timeanddate.com)

(Among the astrological aspects, that day, love goddess Venus had just entered hi-tech, aircraft-ruling Aquarius, at 0 degrees, and was forming an exact square to fantasy Neptune at 0 degrees of transformational Scorpio. Venus was also opposing trend-setting Uranus, at 1 degree of theatrical Leo, an influence that often has us searching for “out of the ordinary” experiences that ideally add some extra pizzazz to our lives. Also, very helpful then was ‘Santa Claus’ Jupiter’s near exact trine to the empowering Capricorn Sun. Positive Sun-Jupiter aspects often expand feelings of peace and goodwill and tends to operate on a broad scale.; the Capricorn Sun is also very tradition minded.)

“We have to deal with a polar vortex once in a while, but Santa lives year-round in one at the North Pole, so he’s used to this weather,” deadpanned U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant Ben Wiseman, a spokesman for the North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, which tracks the yuletide flight. (Denver, December 24, 2022, Reuters.com)

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well this Christmas Eve.

Cosmic Weather:

“The object of a New Year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul and a new nose; new feet, a new backbone, new ears, and new eyes.” G.K. Chesterton

Perhaps fittingly, the first planetary aspect of 2021 is a hopeful sextile from Mercury in pragmatic Capricorn to Neptune in idealistic Pisces (6:18 am). A lovely, more subtle influence that can inspire us to imagine a better year ahead.

Another thing that is very cool about this energy is that it can often heighten our psychic or intuitive impressions, or help us to contact higher planes of consciousness. Additionally, it can make us more sympathetic or caring.

Waning Luna is also in entertainment Leo today. Doing what we enjoy brings us a lot of pleasure now. It is also a great way to recharge our spirit.

Numerologically, we are dealing with both a “one” and “seven” day. Very positive for new beginnings and for seeking a deeper meaning or higher purpose to our lives.

On This Day in History: On January 1, 1818, the first edition of the novel “Frankenstein (or “The Modern Prometheus”) by English author Mary Shelley was published anonymously in London and became an instant bestseller. The book is a combination of Gothic horror and science fiction. It tells the story of Victor Frankenstein, a Swiss student of natural science who creates an artificial man from pieces of corpses and brings his creature to life. (wikipedia.org)

Astrologically, on the day of its publication, there was a stellium of planets conjunct in futuristic, scholarly Sagittarius (Uranus, Venus, Neptune, and Jupiter), the sign which governs publishing. That planetary lineup was also square to transformational Pluto, the signifier of life, death, and rebirth. “Frankenstein” is considered by many to be the prototype of the science fiction novel.

Hope it’s a good one! Onward and upward in 2021!

Cosmic Weather:

“The causes of every human action, Tolstoy thought, were so manifold, so complex, and so deeply hidden in unconscious motivations that it is impossible to know why anything ever happened.” Mortimer J. Adler and Charles Van Doren

There’s a Full Moon in transformational Scorpio, this morning (at 6:45 am). It’s also the last Supermoon of 2020 (the other two were in March and April). Meaning that it’s occurring at the closest point to Earth during its orbit, making it appear larger and brighter.

Today’s Full Moon is also referred to in the Old Farmer’s Almanac as the “Full Flower Moon,” a name that originated with the Native Americans. Obviously echoing Mother Nature’s return to abundance in the Northern hemisphere when so much is abloom and full of life.

With today’s lunation, we are basically seeking to balance our need for physical comfort, safety, and security (Sun in Taurus) with an opposing desire for fulfillment or renewal in the spiritual/non-physical/inner realm (Moon in Scorpio). Whenever Luna is deposited in Pluto-ruled Scorpio (the sign of life, death, and rebirth), we are made more keenly aware of the profound mysteries of our existence, with Scorpio intently focusing on what’s hidden or below the surface.

So having a powerful, revelatory Full Moon occurring in Scorpio now we potentially have, among other things, a very potent opportunity for ferreting out the truth, as we know it or understand it. Especially since this Full Moon is forming an opposition to information-minded Mercury, which only three days ago formed an exact superior conjunction with the Sun. Normally a time (again) when we are presented with clear data or findings or experience sudden epiphanies. It could also be that today’s Full Moon opposition to that same Mercury-Sun meetup point takes those discoveries or results, one step further. Too, generally with a culminating Full Moon, we can have abrupt endings or receive final outcomes or are able to come to some pretty accurate conclusions or assessments about various elements of our lives, including possibly getting a good handle now on how we are coming along with the intentions that we may have set, or the actions that were taken, during the New Moon in Taurus, two weeks ago.

Additionally, the Full Moon in passionate Scorpio may find our emotions at peak intensity, especially since Scorpio is a fixed water sign which tends to always feel things very deeply. There can also be more of an emphasis now on such issues as intimacy and trust, shared resources, and purging or refurbishing.

Also today, mental Mercury, in pragmatic Taurus, is forming a sextile to mystical Neptune in Pisces. This more subtle influence may help to bring our dreams into sharper focus. It can also supply us with a greater ability to express on an intellectual level what we are sensing more intuitively. Accordingly, today might also be a fun time to throw a few Tarot cards and see what comes up for us. It’s also an excellent time to investigate our nocturnal dreams. We may be experiencing more vivid dreams than usual now.

*All times EDT.

Happy Full Moon Blessings! Hope it’s a good one! Be safe and well.

Cosmic Weather:

“Learning to distance yourself from all the negativity is one of the greatest lessons to achieve inner peace.” Roy T. Bennet

It may be easier for us to connect more naturally or effortlessly with our intuition or our sense of “inner knowingness” today. We are also possibly more receptive or willing to resolving difficulties by employing more peaceful or unifying methods, perhaps partially out of an inherent desire to want to see things in the best possible light. This is also an excellent day for engaging in creative tasks or for using our imagination. (Mercury in Capricorn sextiles Neptune in Pisces.)

Additionally, there may be a desire to want to release or let go of old beliefs, philosophies, or practices that are no longer serving us. We may also gain greater clarity or illumination now on why things may have had to be a certain way in the past. (Jupiter in Capricorn conjuncts the South Node in Capricorn.)

*All times EST

Tarot Card for the Day: Is “The Moon” card, which suggests that hidden or subconscious motivations may be brought to the forefront now. It may also potentially be more challenging for us to see where dreams or fantasies end and where reality begins, especially in situations in which our emotions are more fully or actively engaged.

Numerology: Today (January 8) is an “eight” day denoting a great deal of intense or concentrated energy. Often there are lessons pertaining to the usage of power with this number.

Born on This Day: Singer and entertainer Elvis Presley, who would have been 85 years old today. Elvis once said: Ambition is a dream with a V8 engine.

Hope it’s a good one!

“Remember your connection with the cosmos. Remember your connection with the infinity and that remembrance will give you the freedom.” Amit Ray

We begin our Monday with thinker Mercury sextile to transcendent Neptune (exact at  8:19 am.) With logical Mercury and imaginative Neptune paired up now, our creative juices are potentially flowing more easily. A good day, perhaps, to tap into our inner artist. To wax poetic. We also may be sensing a clearer pipeline to the Divine. Or to our Source, Spirit. Whatever you want to call it. I know someone who fondly refers to the concept of a higher power as the “Big Enchilada.” I actually kinda like that description. It’s friendly. More approachable. Humorous. And laughter is something that is always very healing for the soul!

On Mercury-Neptune days, we may feel more of a need to simply be alone with our thoughts. To sift through our dreams, hopes, and wishes. We may also want to check in with our intuition to see what kind of guidance or teaching it may have for us now. See how our outer life is mirroring, or not mirroring, what’s going on inside of us. Find out whether or not we’re living with integrity.

The waxing Moon is also still in the last couple degrees of active Aries the Ram, in the morning, and it’s forming a conjunction to wacky, rebellious Uranus (10:56 am). Buckling down and putting our noses to the grindstone could be a bit trickier now. Later, the Moon will shift into steady, stable Taurus the Bull (1:31 pm) and remain in this calming sign until late Wednesday evening. Conforming is easier now. This also primes us to enjoy the finer things in life, over the next two days. Taurus represents our values and what holds meaning for us. It’s also a time for building or consolidating our energies.

“So few want to be rebels anymore. And out of those few, most, like myself, scare easily.” Ray Bradbury

*All times EST.

Hope you enjoy your day! Do your own Uranian thing! Be groovy and cool, man. 🙂

astrology for may 10 2012, horoscope 2012, imagination, Mercury sextile Neptune, President Obama, President Obama horoscope, psychic development, same-sex marriage

COSMIC WATCH:

Thinker Mercury’s sextile to “fantasy” Neptune (5:59 pm EDT) adds a dreamy quality to our evening.  It’s also positive for projects that engage our imagination. This aspect can additionally stimulate our psychic ability, as well as provoke interest in more mystical or spiritual matters. Sometimes, too, with this influence we experience very vivid night dreams, some of which may even be prophetic (I recently had such a dream with the Sun opposite my Neptune). We may want to keep a notepad and pen by our bed tonight…just in case. I know if I don’t jot down my dreams, I’m apt to forget them. “Man is a genius when he is dreaming.” Akira Kurosawa

In the News: President Obama publicly came out in favor of same-sex marriage on Wednesday, reversing his earlier position. He is the first U.S. president to go on record supporting gay marriage.  Interestingly, in his horoscope now he has Mars, the planet of action, exactly conjunct his natal Pluto, which symbolizes rebirth and transformation. This conjunction is also occurring in his seventh house, the sector of the horoscope that governs marriage.

Mars-Pluto is a very potent influence that can elevate a person’s level of intensity and also make them very determined to achieve their ends. Metaphorically, it can depict someone “going to battle” for what they believe in. It can also coincide with a person making a sweeping change or overhaul in their life. Sometimes this revamping is necessary because there is additional clarity now about a matter. What perhaps served the person before is likely no longer working, so the person may feel that they have almost no choice but to alter their course.

What are your thoughts about same-sex marriage? Do you think it should be legal?

Famous Birthdays May 10: Bono, Rick Santorum, Fred Astaire.  Also, “yours truly” has amazingly made it to another year. 🙂

COSMIC WATCH:

We have a chance to go deep with our thinking and understanding today, as well as scale the heights of our creative imagination, as mental Mercury makes dual sextiles to serious Saturn and visionary Neptune. Too, what we visualize and give form to with our thoughts, words, and deeds is potentially able to fully manifest before us with greater ease now.  Also, by choosing to stay focused in the present moment and paying close attention to what we are planting and cultivating, helps to ensure that we will be thrilled and delighted with all the parameters of our pending harvest.

COSMIC WEATHER:

“We must combine the toughness of the serpent with the softness of the dove, a tough mind and a tender heart.” Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Moon continues her passage through “tough cookie” Scorpio. However, it’s all simply a charade. An orchestrated ruse. This is because, inside of us, our tender hearts are melting like butter today. Not only do we have Mercury (thoughts) and Venus (love) exactly conjunct in docile Taurus, making us charming and lovable, we also have hypnotic Neptune, signifier of illusion, dreamily sextiling both of them from aquatic (fishy) Pisces.

Neptune-Mercury allows us to inspire and weave magic with our words. While Neptune-Venus snares us in with seductive, romantic fantasies. It is nothing short of miraculous how we are able to captivate and put others under our spell now. Even George Clooney is swimming around us in a glass half full. “Be right with you, George. No need to abscond with a shallow mermaid. We’re worth waiting for, George. You see, we have depth. Plenty of depth. And character.” 🙂

Seriously, the cosmic energy around us today is super cool for letting our imagination run wild. We need to tap into our personal creativity now and use it as a major form of our self-expression.  We are also capable of much more compassion and idealism now, if we but open our hearts and reach out to others.

“Life has its own hidden forces which you can only discover by living.” Soren Kierkegaard

There’s a Full Moon at 26 degrees of Scorpio today (7:10 am EDT). Briefly, a Full Moon represents a culmination or peaking of awareness. With a Full Moon we are often more privy to revelations, as we have “more light” by which to see things. The volume on our emotional responses (Moon) may also be turned up.

Scorpio, as a quality of experience, is associated with intensity of expression, and also extremes of behavior. It is a more complex sign to figure out. The natural ruler of Scorpio is Pluto, which is known for its’ laser-like focus. When the Moon is in Scorpio, there is a greater depth of feeling and passion to us, and consequently we tend to react more powerfully to matters. Unfortunately, emotional outbursts can also manifest, if we are not careful to rein ourselves in. The Scorpio Moon additionally likes power and to be in charge, which means on the shadow side, we often need to simultaneously subdue our feelings of control or manipulation. Jealousy and possessiveness are also two other issues that many of us characteristically wrestle with when the Moon is deposited here.

Scorpio as a zodiacal sign stands guard over those areas of life that are normally hidden from view, such as our mind’s subconscious. It also governs intimacy and sex, or what is often expressed privately “behind closed doors.” Scorpio, as the opposite sign to money and possession Taurus, additionally depicts our attitudes concerning the sharing of our material resources with others, and is related to such mundane things as joint bank accounts and jointly-held possessions.

Since Scorpio presides over death (or the dissolution of form) and rebirth, it is also connected to insurance and estate matters. It also rules taxes, surgery, and regenerative healing techniques. Scorpio is furthermore linked to psychic development, channeling, and the spirit world, and to metaphysical matters in general. Its intrinsic approach is always to “go deep” and ponder mysteries wherever they may be found.

With the Full Moon falling in Scorpio, it could be that some or many of the areas above may be more highlighted now. We are also more likely to be in touch with our deepest, most passionate desires (Scorpio) or innermost feelings at this time. We may also have to address issues from our buried past (with Scorpio they often suddenly rise to the surface). Or possibly face the truth about things that we have been avoiding. Again, too, the Scorpio Full Moon can easily solicit overreactions from us, especially if we are not mindful of our behavior.

Too, the Full Moon now could mark transitions or endings, or pivotal turning points (Scorpio). This Scorpio Full Moon is also making a challenging square to vague, dissolving Neptune in surrendering Pisces. It is additionally forming a tight quinqunx (adjustment aspect) to excessive, boastful Jupiter in impulsive Aries (sign of the military), cautioning us not to go overboard or gamble unwisely with our resources. Also, with Neptune’s “veiled ray” on the scene, we may need to guard against being hoodwinked or misled by others. We also would be wise, ourselves, to avoid doing anything that is nefarious or deceitful. Sometimes, too, with Neptune, we unwittingly lead others on by not being in full possession of all the facts. We simply spew out misinformation or just perceive things in a distorted way.

On a more positive note, this lunation still finds Mercury (thoughts) and Venus (beauty and love) side by side in gentle, laid-back Taurus, a very creative sign, and both in a harmonious, compassionate sextile to imaginative Neptune. Taking the time to put into words, our deep love and affection for each other, and engaging in random acts of love and kindness (Neptune), can have very uplifting consequences for all of us now. Also, this aspect is excellent for creating or purchasing art or other objects of beauty, including adding a few “to die for” items to our wardrobe. Too, with the rejuvenating properties of the Scorpio Moon also involved, now would be an ideal time for age-defying beauty treatments or makeovers. Neptune also rules cosmetics, and all manner of masquerade and disguises. It is interesting, too, how when we do alter our outward appearance, we often are related to differently.  In other words, it sets the stage for transforming responses from others.

“Men and women belong to different species, and communication between them is a science still in its infancy.” Bill Cosby 🙂

BTW, I read the other day that Oprah Winfrey (who has facilitated many personal makeovers through her show) plans to tape her talks shows for airing May 23rd and May 24th, on May 17th, at a special arena in Chicago, which will be able to hold over 20,000 of her fans. As an astrologer, of course, I immediately thought about the intensely emotional Scorpio Full Moon in affect and its fitting tie-in with poignant, transforming events, including farewells (endings). Too, with Mercury conjunct Venus in Taurus sextile idealistic, otherworldly Neptune (Neptune also rules the television camera), no doubt that Oprah will be magically “feeling the love” then from her audience and also the camera will be able to masterfully capturing the surreal (Neptune) images of this singular event.

As most of us know who faithfully watch Oprah, she is signing off with her daily syndicated talk show on May 25th, after being on the air for 25 years. She will still be actively involved with broadcasting, however, running her OWN network. Oprah has “Karma Lord” Saturn in Libra transiting at the very top of her chart now, near her tenth house of career. Often a time when one’s highest professional achievement is recorded.

Too, on May 25th, again the last day for the Oprah Show, the Sun will also fascinatingly be in communications Gemini and exactly sextile to futuristic Uranus in new beginnings Aries, signaling that some “big change is in the air.” Uranus also rules television broadcasting. The Sun-Uranus aspect also tends to coincide with more “unusual” or “out of the ordinary” (Uranus) events, and May 25th will, no doubt, go down in broadcast history as the day Oprah officially ended her talk show.  The Moon will also be in reflective, sentimental Pisces that day. We wish Oprah all the best, but at the same time, we will miss her daily show. Afternoons will no longer be the same without her beaming, re-assuring presence lighting up the television screen.

“I can’t understand why people are frightened of new ideas. I’m frightened of the old ones.” John Cage

Cosmic Weather:

The Moon exits contemplative Pisces for pioneering Aries (10:24 am EST). A time when we want to be starting something new and exciting in our lives. We also have intellectual Mercury, in enthusiastic Sagittarius, square to non-conforming Uranus, the planet of sudden change, which is in idealistic Pisces. This potent aspect tends to foster the formation of more radical ideas, or radical thinking. The nature of Uranus is generally more rebellious. Uranus likes to play the devil’s advocate, too. Mercury-Uranus can confer brilliance upon us. Uranus characteristically speeds up our thinking. But, at the same time, it can also be a more mentally unstable and erratic time for us, as we get these instant revelations and then suddenly they’re gone. It could be that we want to avoid making snap decisions, and also hold off acting on any of our sudden, genius insights, for a few days. Wait until they have had some time to distill or gel.

Additionally, we have Mercury sextile to mystic guru Neptune, with Neptune ruling our link to the divine and also our psychic ability. This aspect may generate more of an intellectual desire to seek out more spiritually-based activities. Perhaps we may want to read more inspirational material, or books on psychic development. Or, try psychic experiments, which is something that I personally love to do. Neptune also rules our dreams, so this is an ideal time for paying closer attention to our dreams now, and trying to unravel their magical symbolism. Dreams can often foretell our future, if we are but able to glean their meaning. Dream study is also a great way, in general, for staying connected with our subconscious, or what’s going on below the surface of our conscious awareness.

I remember, years ago, I had a very vivid dream about boarding a train in my home town. On this train, I met a man, and rode with him for the duration of the train ride, which seemed to last forever. At the end of the dream, however, that man stayed on the train, but I got off of it. When I woke up from that dream, I intuitively immediately knew that I was going to be “meeting a man” soon in my waking life. Well, within a week, I met my husband! But, it wasn’t on a train. It was in a radio station in my home town. I was on the air doing a call-in astrology show. My life – my personal journey – of course, changed forever, when I met Daniel, and we did, indeed, embark on an extended “life trip” with each other for twenty years, until his early death from cancer. Our relationship also ended up permanently taking me away, geographically, from my birthplace, as the two of us eventually settled far away from where I was born. I was thinking this morning, too, how in the dream, I got off the train by myself, perhaps indicating that my real life journey would later include living without my husband physically by my side. BTW, years ago, I did do intuitive dream interpretation on the radio with listeners, when I had my own radio show.

Neptune additionally governs our imagination and creativity. This influence should considerably help to elevate or boost our creativity, and also help with our powers of visualization. Excellent day for any creative writing project (Mercury rules words), especially with the simultaneous Mercury-Uranus aspect, which can provide us with unique, original insights, along with a good measure of quirky thoughts, which can also sometimes be kind of cool. Neptune also rules imagery, so it’s a fantastic day for painting or photography.

On a personal note, as I mentioned several days ago, I am going to be changing some things with my blog, this year. While I have enjoyed writing the daily horoscopes, I am going to begin doing them on a weekly basis instead. I want more time to focus on other writing projects for a while. Also, there’s the matter of making more time, hopefully, for a life with George Clooney in 2011. Ever the optimist here! 🙂  Too, I still plan on writing special articles on the lunations, planets changing signs, etc. here.
