COSMIC WATCH:

Lovable Venus stations retrograde at 24 degrees of Gemini (10:33 am EDT). It will remain retrograde until June 27. During Venus’s apparent backward dance in the sky we have a chance to carefully reflect upon and critique all the areas that Venus governs: our romantic life; the way we socialize or interact with others; the values we espouse and hold dear to our heart; the aspects of our life that provide us with pleasure or beauty. Venus also presides over our attitudes towards money and possessions.

Traditionally, the retrograde phase of a planet is a time when it is normally advised to postpone any important decision-making regarding the affairs ruled by that planet, as the theory is that the final verdict or takeaway on a matter will not be known until the planet resumes direct motion again.

Venus goes retrograde every 18 months. The last time that it went retrograde in Gemini was on May 17, 2004. Fascinatingly, back then on that very date, is when the state of Massachusetts issued the first, fully legal, same-sex marriage licenses in the United States (Venus rules marriage).

Now once again, just days prior to Venus going retrograde in this same sign, the sign of the twins, more history has been made on this same issue with President Obama openly coming out in support of same-sex marriage, the first U.S. president to do so.

Thinker Mercury’s sextile to “fantasy” Neptune (5:59 pm EDT) adds a dreamy quality to our evening.  It’s also positive for projects that engage our imagination. This aspect can additionally stimulate our psychic ability, as well as provoke interest in more mystical or spiritual matters. Sometimes, too, with this influence we experience very vivid night dreams, some of which may even be prophetic (I recently had such a dream with the Sun opposite my Neptune). We may want to keep a notepad and pen by our bed tonight…just in case. I know if I don’t jot down my dreams, I’m apt to forget them. “Man is a genius when he is dreaming.” Akira Kurosawa

In the News: President Obama publicly came out in favor of same-sex marriage on Wednesday, reversing his earlier position. He is the first U.S. president to go on record supporting gay marriage.  Interestingly, in his horoscope now he has Mars, the planet of action, exactly conjunct his natal Pluto, which symbolizes rebirth and transformation. This conjunction is also occurring in his seventh house, the sector of the horoscope that governs marriage.

Mars-Pluto is a very potent influence that can elevate a person’s level of intensity and also make them very determined to achieve their ends. Metaphorically, it can depict someone “going to battle” for what they believe in. It can also coincide with a person making a sweeping change or overhaul in their life. Sometimes this revamping is necessary because there is additional clarity now about a matter. What perhaps served the person before is likely no longer working, so the person may feel that they have almost no choice but to alter their course.

COSMIC WEATHER:

The Universe is suggesting we “mingle and merge,” this weekend.  It’s providing us with an idealistic, romantic Libra Moon all Friday and into Saturday.  The Moon will also conjoin “Love Goddess” Venus (4:59 am EDT Friday) and “Sex Lord” Mars (9:22 am EDT Friday).

The Moon will then descend into Sexual Scorpio on Saturday evening (8:27 pm EDT), at which time we are highly urged to practice our “night moves” with grace and precision, particularly when the Moon throws a “sextile” aspect to “Passionate” Pluto (1:37 am EDT Sunday).

We also have the option of continuing to perfect these steamy activities throughout the day on Sunday, as the Moon stays in Scorpio all day long. Or, we can choose to do weeding and yard work.  It’s up to us. We only need to make sure that if we do choose the second option, that we don’t get carried away and try to “get intimate”  with the lawn mower. A potentially painful proposition that could also result in an “uneven lawn,” which could make us wildly unpopular in the neighborhood.

In the News:

Federal Judge Vaughn R. Walker, on Thursday, lifted his stay on the same-sex marriages ban, paving the way for gay couples in California to marry in that state. Walker delayed, however, implementation of his order to lift the ban until August 18th.

Walker’s ruling a week ago, that a voter-approved ban on same sex marriage was unconstitutional, was rendered with pioneering Mars in Matrimonial Libra exactly squaring off with transformational Pluto in governmental Capricorn. Mars-Pluto can be indicative of someone “seizing power” or taking “forceful action.”  It is also a classic “war aspect” replete with power clashes and clashes of will. There is strong opposition to Judge Walker’s ruling.

Also, “Status Quo Preserver” Saturn in Nuptials Libra was opposite Uranus in Aries when Walker ruled last week.  Uranus is associated with equality and gay rights issues and also represents change. With the Saturn and Uranus opposition, once again, we had the pitting of the old versus the new, with the new winning out this time, perhaps also because of the simultaneously strong Mars-Pluto aspect which tends to bulldoze existing structures and protocol.

On August 18th, Saturn in relationship Libra will be exactly squaring transforming Pluto to a tee. It ought to be interesting to see how this aspect plays out. Saturn-Pluto can represent “death to the past,” but often not without a bitter fight and, of course, same-sex marriage remains a controversial and polarizing issue.

I will be away from this blog for a while.  My 2 degree Aries rising is being sadistically hounded by the likes of Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto, at the moment, so I must go into seclusion and hiding for a while, with or without George Clooney. Anyway, I’ll return here once I deem it is safe to come back out. Right now, it’s a battlefield out there, so I’m seeking cover. I also do need some rest. Been burning the candle at both ends, and, sadly, there is very little of my candle left to burn at this point.
