We have a “trifecta” of a day today with the galloping Gemini Moon sextiling Mercury (ideas), Jupiter (opportunity), and Mars (initiative) in “race to the finish line” Aries. This is a fantastic time to unabashedly promote ourselves (Aries), our pet projects, and our ideas (Gemini). We can be much more convincing now and much more enthusiastically received. Very likely to make a positive first impression.

Also, communicator Mercury’s conjunction to “goddess of love and beauty” Venus bodes well for “affairs of the heart” and discussion of romance.  It can also be a highly creative influence. An ideal day for writing (Gemini). Might also be an excellent time to go shopping for clothes or things of beauty for the home (art, decorative items). The Moon also shifts into homebody Cancer, late in the day (10:32 pm EDT), forming a cocooning trine to fantasy Neptune (11:54 pm EDT).

Mixed bag of nuts today. We have the potent “Mars square Pluto” aspect exact (4:36 pm EDT). This influence has been applying for the last several days. Mars, ruler of our self-assertion and drive, can passionately empower us to take on formidable challenges, when aligned with intense, controlling Pluto. Mars-Pluto is perennially linked with wanting to wield power and influence in the world. (Oprah Winfrey has this aspect in her personal horoscope.)

We need to make sure, however, that we don’t overtax ourselves or surpass our limits with this influence. Too, we would be very wise to avoid power struggles, shoving matches, taunting behavior, etc. On the shadow side, Mars-Pluto can awaken and unleash our “inner bully.”

Mars-Pluto can also be “very transforming” energy, with Pluto ruling regeneration. Again, as I mentioned the other day in my blog on Pluto stationing retrograde, this is an excellent time to “wipe the slate clean” and  to purge or eliminate what isn’t working in our lives.

Retrograde Mercury, ruler of our thoughts, is also back into an exact conjunction with “optimistic” Jupiter (11:59 pm EDT), ruler of philosophy and our higher beliefs and vision, academia, long-distance travel. On the plus side, the Mercury-Jupiter influence can make us more enthusiastic and upbeat, more high-minded in our thinking (a nice antidote for the Mars-Pluto “bully” mentality). Mercury-Jupiter is also an excellent time for writing.

The shadow side of this same aspect is we can become too boastful or arrogant (Jupiter). Too, with the Mars-Pluto aspect as a backdrop, this is probably not a good time to get into arguments over philosophical (Jupiter) differences, as they could very well escalate. Also, if we have any public presentations or speeches (Mercury) to make, we will want to make sure that we have “all the facts” straight ahead of time (Mercury-Jupiter tends to exaggerate), in case we later get “called on the carpet” (stickler Pluto). However, if we do diligently cover our bases, we could be very compelling and persuasive as a speaker (or writer) now, especially if we sprinkle in some of the famous “Jupiterian” humor.

BTW, do you think you have a good sense of humor? May want to check out the positioning of Jupiter in your chart and see how it’s linked up to the personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus or Mars; or the Ascendant; or 3rd or 9th houses) for further astrological insight and confirmation. We mentioned Oprah Winfrey earlier, she also has her Mercury (communication) trine Jupiter in her horoscope, so she has no problem seeing humor in things. Too, that endows her with natural ability to make people laugh. (Mercury-Jupiter is also the hallmark of a teacher or preacher.) Comedian David Letterman (who has a birthday tomorrow) also has his Mercury exactly trine his natal Jupiter. David is also a writer and that is excellent for that outlet. Funny man, and also writer, Woody Allen has his Sun conjunct Jupiter, a similar influence-type influence, as does actor James Garner.

In the News: With the potent “game-changing” Mars-Pluto aspect exact today one of the news headlines this morning is about President Obama’s press conference that is slated for this Wednesday. Obama will be unveiling his package of proposed spending cuts for the future, including proposed cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, and changes to Social Security, in a bid to tackle this nation’s deficit crisis (Pluto rules debt). Higher taxes (ruled by Pluto) are also reportedly going to be proposed for the wealthy (Wall Street Journal).

The big day has finally arrived: Unpredictable Uranus, the rebel planet of change, enters action-packed Aries (7:50 pm), the cardinal, fire sign of new beginnings. Uranus, which is also associated with genius and invention, will stay in Mars-ruled Aries for the next 7 years. (Uranus was already briefly here last year, from late May until mid-August, before retrograding back into Pisces.)

Uranus is linked with liberation/being set free. Deposited in adventurous Aries, we may become more assertive in going after our pursuits. Aries as a sign does not want to be held back or restrained in any way and is willing to fight for what it wants and believes in; it has a strong survivalist mentality.

Too, the psychology of Aries is much more self-focused with the keywords for the sign being: “I am.” Of course, electrifying Uranus is also correlated with individualism, so the placement in self-discovery Aries is a good fit. The Aries energy is often likened to the discovery spirit of the pioneer; it can be gutsy and daring, full of fearless, self-confidence.

We will also want to see what house (or area of life) in our own horoscope that Uranus is currently passing through, to shed light on how it may be impacting us on a personal level. For instance, we may be feeling more of a shift or call to action now with respect to the specific affairs of that house. Included here: a possible burgeoning desire to show the world what makes us tick as individuals.

Again, all this can be very positive, as Uranus tends to propel us out of our ruts and along the path of our authenticity. The shadow side of Uranus is that it can initially be disruptive, more so if we resist making needed changes.

Uranus also rules innovation, science, and technology (including the internet). With Uranus in pioneering Aries, we will likely see amazing new discoveries and advancements in both of these areas, probably coming to us at lightning (Uranian) speed.

Aside from Uranus moving into Aries today, we also have the daily Moon entering restless Gemini (12:32 am). Reading, writing, social networking – all forms of communication get the green light, especially during the late evening hours when the Moon makes favorable aspects to philosophical Jupiter (8:32 pm) and romantic Venus (11:39 pm).

News Update: We had an 8.9 magnitude earthquake in Japan today and resultant tsunamis worldwide. Uranus is associated with earthquakes. So, at least on the surface, it appears that we are not the only ones making “major shifts” now – the earth is also shifting its energies around!

Looking back: When Uranus first moved into Pisces, several years ago, is the very day that the war in Iraq started, which was symbolically a devastating quake of another kind.

Cosmic Weather:

The Moon exits contemplative Pisces for pioneering Aries (10:24 am EST). A time when we want to be starting something new and exciting in our lives. We also have intellectual Mercury, in enthusiastic Sagittarius, square to non-conforming Uranus, the planet of sudden change, which is in idealistic Pisces. This potent aspect tends to foster the formation of more radical ideas, or radical thinking. The nature of Uranus is generally more rebellious. Uranus likes to play the devil’s advocate, too. Mercury-Uranus can confer brilliance upon us. Uranus characteristically speeds up our thinking. But, at the same time, it can also be a more mentally unstable and erratic time for us, as we get these instant revelations and then suddenly they’re gone. It could be that we want to avoid making snap decisions, and also hold off acting on any of our sudden, genius insights, for a few days. Wait until they have had some time to distill or gel.

Additionally, we have Mercury sextile to mystic guru Neptune, with Neptune ruling our link to the divine and also our psychic ability. This aspect may generate more of an intellectual desire to seek out more spiritually-based activities. Perhaps we may want to read more inspirational material, or books on psychic development. Or, try psychic experiments, which is something that I personally love to do. Neptune also rules our dreams, so this is an ideal time for paying closer attention to our dreams now, and trying to unravel their magical symbolism. Dreams can often foretell our future, if we are but able to glean their meaning. Dream study is also a great way, in general, for staying connected with our subconscious, or what’s going on below the surface of our conscious awareness.

I remember, years ago, I had a very vivid dream about boarding a train in my home town. On this train, I met a man, and rode with him for the duration of the train ride, which seemed to last forever. At the end of the dream, however, that man stayed on the train, but I got off of it. When I woke up from that dream, I intuitively immediately knew that I was going to be “meeting a man” soon in my waking life. Well, within a week, I met my husband! But, it wasn’t on a train. It was in a radio station in my home town. I was on the air doing a call-in astrology show. My life – my personal journey – of course, changed forever, when I met Daniel, and we did, indeed, embark on an extended “life trip” with each other for twenty years, until his early death from cancer. Our relationship also ended up permanently taking me away, geographically, from my birthplace, as the two of us eventually settled far away from where I was born. I was thinking this morning, too, how in the dream, I got off the train by myself, perhaps indicating that my real life journey would later include living without my husband physically by my side. BTW, years ago, I did do intuitive dream interpretation on the radio with listeners, when I had my own radio show.

Neptune additionally governs our imagination and creativity. This influence should considerably help to elevate or boost our creativity, and also help with our powers of visualization. Excellent day for any creative writing project (Mercury rules words), especially with the simultaneous Mercury-Uranus aspect, which can provide us with unique, original insights, along with a good measure of quirky thoughts, which can also sometimes be kind of cool. Neptune also rules imagery, so it’s a fantastic day for painting or photography.

On a personal note, as I mentioned several days ago, I am going to be changing some things with my blog, this year. While I have enjoyed writing the daily horoscopes, I am going to begin doing them on a weekly basis instead. I want more time to focus on other writing projects for a while. Also, there’s the matter of making more time, hopefully, for a life with George Clooney in 2011. Ever the optimist here! 🙂  Too, I still plan on writing special articles on the lunations, planets changing signs, etc. here.
