“If you don’t know where you are going, you will probably end up somewhere else.” Lawrence J. Peter
The ambitious Capricorn Moon reminds us of the importance of setting our daily goals or intentions as a way to achieve success. Of course, goal-setting can be difficult, if we are not really clear about what it is that we hope to accomplish.
Since Saturn-ruled Capricorn pertains to the tangible structures or forms that we build up around ourselves in order to feel safe and secure, with these elements also helping to define us as individuals, today may be a good time to give serious thought to exactly what it is that we would like to see take shape in our lives, as well as formulating specific action plans on how to get there. Also providing us with a big strategic advantage here today: The Moon’s harmonious sextiles to both the empowering Sun (6:48 am EST) and articulating Mercury (10:48 am EST), in visualizing Pisces, which should help us become more aware of our individual purpose (Sun). With Moon sextile Sun, we are more apt to “feel (Moon) our power (Sun).”
Later on, the Moon forms a restrictive square to taskmaster Saturn in partnership Libra (9:36 pm EST). A time when we may have to tackle old relationship issues, or possibly address some of our fears or concerns (Saturn). Moon-Saturn energy tends to be a little on the heavy side, or at least more subdued. Too, it ought to be interesting to see how this restraining, more serious Saturnian energy, may play out at the 83rd annual Academy Awards ceremony tonight. Heard earlier that the weather was probably going to be a problematic issue or challenge (Saturn). Leave it to Saturn to be a wet blanket. 🙂
“I’ve always admitted that I’m ruled by my passions.” Elizabeth Taylor (Liz also has her Moon in passionate Scorpio.) Special birthday wishes for you, Elizabeth! Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Opportunistic Jupiter squares passionate Pluto (3:41 pm EST): Doing what we are passionate about can be very freeing for us. New doors could suddenly open up to us if we focus and harness our energies wisely. Purging ourselves of what is outworn, also allows us to move forward to a brighter future. (Pluto rules the principle of elimination.) Also, a great day for refurbishing, or giving things “new life.”
Shadow side of Jupiter-Pluto: Becoming too obsessed with a course of action. Desire for manipulation and control at all costs. Power-hungry. Ruthlessness, or expression of extreme forms of behavior.
Sun/Mercury sextile Pluto: Transforming or regenerating circumstances. Penetrating insights. “Aha” moments. What was previously hidden or disguised, is gloriously revealed. (Pluto rules secrets and the subconscious realm).
Moon in Sagittarius: Fires up our sense of wonderment and adventure. We also want to express and act upon our higher beliefs and convictions.
Shadow side of Sadge Moon: Fanaticism. Too preachy or boastful. Extravagance (which Pluto will likely do combat with today).

On February 22nd, Mars, symbolizing the aggressive urge, dives into emotional Pisces (8:06 pm EST), where it will, no doubt, try to make a big splash over the next six weeks. It is characteristically the nature of Mars to “stir things up,” as he represents our physical energy and ignites our passions, although when he is submerged underwater in Pisces, much of his “fire” is put out.
But, lest we get fooled by warrior Mars here, he can still be a barracuda! But, generally, he prefers to avoid direct confrontation in Pisces, if at all possible. Mars in Pisces also tends more toward passive aggressive behavior, or misplaced aggression.
However, with all that said, this time around, we still do have a lot of fiery “martian” energy at our disposal now, because expansive Jupiter is deposited in potent Mars-ruled Aries, actually in mutual reception with Mars, as Jupiter co-rules Pisces. Too, Jupiter is, and has been for the last few weeks, in a powerful square to obsessive Pluto (exact on Friday) which can make us more bent on pursuing unrestricted, “new beginnings” (Aries) with a heated fervor.
Too, Aries is associated with war and revolution, and we have witnessed all the unrest, demonstrations, and standoffs in the world the past few weeks. Mars has also been boldly empowering group expression in “power to the people” Aquarius. Also, rebellious Uranus is poised to enter Aries on March 11th for a seven-year stay, so the political landscape could very well continue to change in many nations during this time period. Freedom-loving Uranus in Aries will likely coincide with continued uprisings by individuals on a pioneering, self-developing quest to “do their own thing” (Uranus). Aries is more of a fearless sign, also it’s very impulsive and often acts way too hasty without giving enough thought to the consequences of its actions.
It is interesting, too, that with the opportunistic Jupiter square tyrannical Pluto, almost exact to the dot now, Libya’s long-time despotic ruler (Pluto), Muammar Qaddafi, may finally be ousted in wake of the mass revolt. Sadly, we have also seen many tragic massacres in Libya the last few days as the planets have moved into Pisces, which is more associated with persecution.
Too, it is wise to always note whenever Mars changes zodiacal signs. It is at those times when Mars enters a new sign that we often collectively see very notable or pivotal things occurring with respect to “Mars-ruled” matters: aggression, war, adventurous new beginnings, discoveries or breakthroughs. Then, of course, we need to add the elements or things associated with the sign that Mars is going through.
Pisces, for example, rules the sea and oil. Oil is spiking upwards due to the unrest in the Middle East. We may all want to keep a very close eye on oil with volatile Mars moving into Pisces. When Chiron entered Pisces last year was the very day we had the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Mars will also be exactly conjunct Chiron on February 24th (the energy is already applying), so this could be a critical time period for the planet. BTW, it was reported yesterday that BP reached a 7.2 billion dollar oil and gas deal with India on Monday.
Too, as I am writing this, a seemingly big news story is unfolding about the Suez Canal. Reportedly Iranian Naval Vessels have entered the canal. Warrior Mars in Pisces could, unfortunately, symbolize hostile conditions at sea, or around water.
News Update: It was also reported today that the four Americans taken hostage by Somali pirates a few days ago off East Africa were shot and killed today by their captors. (The Americans were first taken hostage with the Mercury-Mars-Neptune triple conjunction a few days ago.)
On a more uplifting note, we also have the Academy Awards on Sunday and Pisces rules films and acting.
Mars in Pisces is indeed a very imaginative placement for the “red planet,” if not the most creative place for it. Mars here often has a deep passion and talent for art, music, dancing, acting, film, photography. For example, Elton John, an Aries, who we mentioned the other day as someone with Mercury in Pisces, also has his Mars in Pisces.
Too, there is usually a greater desire for retreat and seclusion from the world with Mars in Pisces, as a way of recharging our batteries. Mars in retiring Pisces also normally denotes more of an affinity for mystical or spiritual pursuits, and can also give a gift for healing. Many people in the healing field have a notable presence of Pisces planets (or a strong Neptune) in their horoscopes.
Romantically, Mars in Pisces tends to be fantasy-driven and very sensual, so we will definitely want to clear our calendars to make sure that we do have plenty of time for steamy, nocturnal pastimes. 🙂
The shadow side of Mars in Pisces: There can be indecisiveness, disillusionment, extremism (especially religious fanaticism). Too much of an immersion into fantasy or idealism. Also, Pisces is linked with drug and alcohol abuse. Of course, there is also more opportunity for deception, or simply more chance for weird, nebulous things to happen (due to Mars being in Neptune’s “spacey” home turf). Pisces also rules private sects and cults. Also, there may be more of a willingness to voluntarily play the “victim” or “martyr” role.
Too, with Pisces being more of a “selfless” or “ego-denying” sign, we ideally progress now by doing more for others than for ourselves, especially more for persons who are downtrodden, disabled, or down on their luck for whatever reason. Mars in Pisces can be very compassionate and charitable. We also have the Sun, Mercury, Uranus, and Chiron in Pisces now, so we have a notable Pisces vibration going on. Invisible energy that is hopefully imploring us to remember to kindly give each other a helping hand, or a comforting shoulder to cry on. The Pisces energy perennially sensitizes us to other people’s pain and struggle. We become more acutely aware of the fragility of life and the fleetingness, or even desperateness, of the human condition.
“Compassion is not religious business, it is human business, it is not luxury, it is essential for our own peace and mental stability, it is essential for human survival.”Dalai Lama
“Sweet baby” James is a Pisces. He’s a perfect template for all of the more noble, magical qualities of the sign, isn’t he? Love him.

Thought-keeper Mercury moves into impressionable, imaginative Pisces, the sign of the fishes, on February 21st (3:54 pm EST). Mercury joins the Sun, Uranus, and Chiron here. Mercury will be in Pisces until March 9th. Our mental faculties may be influenced more by emotions than logic during this period. We will also want to take more time to reflect inwardly, as contemplative Pisces deals more with the subconscious and ethereal realms.

We have a potent triple conjunction of Mercury (thoughts), Mars (motivator), and Neptune (fantasy) in “innovative” Aquarius, which is also the sign that rules groups and group behavior. Creative types and original thinkers will likely thrive today, as Neptune rules the imagination, artistic or musical expression, and Mercury and Mars can help to fire these things up. Aquarius energy can also aid to kindle our originality and genius, and give us the courage and wherewithal to view our lives and options in exciting new ways.
Additionally, this triple grouping of the planets can be a very spiritual time when we feel more of a “link with the divine,” as Neptune rules our “urge for spirituality.” Meditation, prayer, engaging in random acts of kindness, or perhaps visiting those who are ill or infirm, or otherwise confined, would be some great ways of using this energy in its most sublime manner. Again, with this conjunction occurring in group-oriented Aquarius, aligning ourselves with groups or organizations that do good works for the collective, would be ideal. Too, lest we forget, Neptune’s mantra is: “Serve or suffer.”
On the shadow side with this influence, there is potentially more of a tendency for “misplaced aggression.” This is because the aggressive urge, ruled by Mars, has a potential for being “disguised” with its alignment with “masquerading” or “deceptive” Neptune. Historically, Mars-Neptune has also been associated with martyrdom and persecution, and taking advantage of those who are weaker or do not often seem to have a voice in their own affairs, like the downtrodden or disenfranchised groups.
We would probably all be well-advised to pay closer attention to the particular impulses that are “driving” our behavior and decisions now, and steer clear of acting on any irrational or self-aggrandizing ideas that do not propel us upward, to a better place in our head. Neptune’s ray unchecked can arouse paranoia or strange fears from seemingly out of nowhere. Once we detach and calmly study the irrationality of these things, however, we can simply release them and let them go, without acting upon them. Or we can transmute them into higher, creative expression, that serves to elevate or free us.
“There is much in the world to make us afraid. There is much more in our faith to make us unafraid.” Frederick W. Cropp.

The empowering Sun conjuncts mystical Neptune. We have a desire to transcend the mundane in our search for deeper meaning. We are also more willing to let our ego needs take a backseat to the needs of others. Neptune is linked with self-sacrifice, even martyrdom. It also rules compassion, as well as our imagination. The keywords for Neptune are: “Serve or suffer.”
Meanwhile, the Moon remains in self-expressive Leo (gearing up for the Full Moon on Friday). Perhaps by helping to raise others up (Neptune in Aquarius), we discover that we also shine (Leo) in the process.
“Only a life lived for others is worth living.”Albert Einstein.
A note of caution: The shadow side of Sun-Neptune tends to put us “in a fog.” It is often harder to see things clearly. We are also more prone to deception (either from self or others), and disillusionment. So we may want to keep more of a detached air about us, and stay more focused on facts rather than fantasy.
On a collective level, too, Sun-Neptune has historically been associated with “extremism” or “fanaticism,” especially religious fanaticism. This is mainly because with Sun-Neptune, we often feel that we are carrying out a “higher agenda” and therefore have carte blanche to do whatever we feel we need to do in order to further our perceived noble causes. Neptune also rules persecution. It additionally represents groups that are disenfranchised or down on their luck. The impoverished. People who traditionally have not had a voice.
With that said, this is highly creative energy, today and tomorrow, especially with the theatrical Leo Moon also at play. Too, Neptune rules visual images. Our ability for positive visualization is, therefore, very keen now. We may also want to pay closer attention to our Neptune-ruled dreams for pivotal clues to our subconscious meanderings.
“All the things one has forgotten scream for help in dreams.”Elias Canetti
Neptune’s colors are turquoise, green, and magenta. To tune into Neptune’s meditative ray, we may want to wear and or surround ourselves now with these colors. Also, we might consider burning incense and putting on soft, soothing music. Creating a more contemplative environment in our homes. Water therapy is also ideal, as Neptune rules liquids, gels, and the sea. Given that the Moon is also in entertaining Leo, we may want to take in a play or movie, or attend a concert.

On a personal note, I will be away from this blog for a few days. Taking a little “escapist” Neptunian break. 🙂

“Ego has a voracious appetite. The more you feed it, the hungrier it gets.” Nathaniel Bronner Jr.
The nocturnal Moon shifts from nesting Cancer to big hair Leo (4:15 am EST). We long to hear the sound of applause and are eager to graciously take our bows on stage. The entertaining Leo Moon always desires a good measure of ego-stroking and self-glorification, and is willing to “sing for its supper” in order to realize these things. Leo is the zodiacal sign that rules our talent and gifts.
The Moon’s dynamic trine to fortuitous Jupiter in new beginnings Aries (12:31 pm EST) also helps to boost our creativity and optimism. Doors could suddenly open up for us with Moon-Jupiter. We will want to maximize our exposure then and plant hopeful seeds of golden Leo opportunity.
We do, however, want to guard against being too-controlling and dark when the Moon forms a funky quinqunx to despot Pluto (3:28 pm EST). Too, we still have the volatile Sun conjunct Mars aspect which can unleash our aggressive urge. On the plus side, though, this same aspect can make us courageous.

“I never trust people’s assertions, I always judge of them by their actions.”Ann Radcliffe
With the Moon in emotionally vulnerable Cancer and connection queen Venus, forming a semi-square to deceptive Neptune, we are well-served today to heed Ms. Radcliffe’s more tried-and-true philosophy. Size people up by their actions, not their assertions.
Too, with communicator Mercury also forming a semi-square to bloated Jupiter, we are likely going to be fed a bunch of hyperbole anyway, as Jupiter likes to embellish and stretch things. But, again, we do best just sticking with the “plain and simple” facts today. No pie ala mode. Hold the pickle. 🙂

In the news: President Obama unveiled his 2012 Federal Budget on Monday with communicator Mercury in idealistic Aquarius exactly trine to Saturn in Libra. Saturn rules budgets and Libra rules Congress. Mercury-Saturn symbolizes more of a “budget-conscious” mindset.
Of course, we also have expander Jupiter in trailblazing Aries now forming a tight square to purging Pluto in governmental Capricorn, so needless to say, there will probably end up being a lot of “elimination” from this proposed budget, as is normally the case. With Jupiter-Pluto, though, the cuts could even be deeper, this time around, as bulldozer Pluto tends to decimate.

This Valentine’s Day finds us navigating a potentially more complex emotional terrain with the nurturing Moon entering feeling-oriented Cancer (12:50 am EST) and forming a wide array of “roller coaster” aspects to Jupiter, Pluto, Mars, the Sun, and Venus.
Not to worry, though. Because on the flip side of this cosmic coin, mental Mercury, governing communication, is forming an exact harmonious trine to “no frills” Saturn who wisely advises us to keep our Cupid’s messages for each other short and to the point. (With Mercury-Saturn, less is always more.) Accordingly, “Need you now” may be all we really need to say today to be a big hit with our sweetie. Along with, of course, “I love you.”

(Happy that Lady Antebellum‘s “Need You Now” won both “record of the year” and “song of the year” at the Grammy Awards last night. A masterpiece of a song, don’t you think? Of course, I also got my Valentine’s gift a day early last night seeing my lifelong love, Mick Jagger, perform on the Grammy stage for the very first time. Wish Keith Richards had been with him, though. Too, very nice seeing Barbra Streisand and Bob Dylan perform.)
Also, a very warm, heartfelt Valentine’s Day greeting to each one of my five, faithful blog readers here. Hope it’s a good one for all of you, with lots of chocolate and kisses. Reckon, too, that I should leave a light on for my other sweetheart, George Clooney? Just in case? Keep hope alive?
“Need you now, George.”
