The Sun in Aries squares Pluto in Capricorn (9:27 am). This more intense, complicated aspect can often find us pushing too hard to control the scheme of things; we may possibly perceive ourselves to be under attack so we won’t let go. However, holding on too tightly now can also boomerang and work against us, in some instances, particularly by depleting (or exhausting) our energy. Included here, we may also become more aware of specific behaviors that are no longer serving us and should be purged or moved to the curb.

On the other hand, this is not necessarily a time when we need to give up on our goals, especially those that are a central part of our basic self-expression, our personal identity, and or reflect our deeply-held beliefs, values, or viewpoints; instead, we may just need to retool things; to fashion some new creative responses or strategies that allow us to express our personal power and purpose in a more unifying way on an energetic level; that plays to our strengths or hopes (and not to our weaknesses or fears).

The Waxing Crescent Moon also remains in versatile Gemini all day. Imploring us to make connections, seek out alternatives, verbalize our feelings.

On This Day in History: On April 16, 1943, Swiss scientist Dr. Albert Hofmann discovers the psychedelic effects of LSD.

Astrologically, that day, pioneering Mars was at 29 degrees of experimental, innovative Aquarius and applying to an exact quincunx to hallucinogenic Neptune (which rules psychedelic drugs). Neptune was also Rx at 0 degrees and 1 minute of Libra, getting ready to re-enter the health-sign of Virgo. Neptune was an especially important “point-of-focus” in the sky then with its shift back into Virgo; Mars was also a key cosmic player at the critical “29-degree mark” – and getting ready to dive into Neptune-ruled Pisces. Mars-Neptune influences are often associated with seeking out activities that give rise to a “feeling of transcendence” or wanting to experience somehow “otherworldly” connections.

The illuminating Sun squaring transformational Pluto today (at 7:07 am) potentially underscores a more intense conflict or tension between wanting or seemingly needing to play by the old, established rule book, to some degree, in which many things are pretty much already known, quantified or controlled (Pluto in Capricorn), versus the desire to want to embrace a brand new playbook that is likely comprised of many moving parts advancing along uncertain or speculative trajectories, but also one that ultimately provides for the opportunity for promising new growth and unbounded possibilities (Sun in Aries). It could be, too, with a cautious, third-quarter Capricorn Moon today that we choose a path that incorporates or straddles both of these options depending upon what it is that is staring us in the face or what it is that we are trying to accomplish. We may also want to keep in mind that Luna, in her Last Quarter phase (exact at 6:56 pm), is more a time of pondering or reflecting on how things are rather than for taking any new immediate actions, although later, we will likely be taking new steps as an outgrowth of our present-day review/contemplation.

Meanwhile, the Sun-Pluto energy also will likely alert us to what is possibly decaying or breaking down around us so that we can act accordingly to either salvage things if that is still an option or maybe choose to simply scrap everything and start over. In some cases, we may also decide to just walk away from something or, in another scenario, certain elements in our life may pass away on their own. Too, it is likely that whatever comes our way, we will probably end up with a much deeper sense of our own personal power and purpose, including an increased awareness of our own level of resiliency. Sun-Pluto often serves to move us along to the next rung on the evolutionary ladder. 

On the shadow side, Sun-Pluto energy can sometimes trigger power grabs or manipulative actions.

We are poised for positive, transformative new beginnings today but the portal to get there may require that we first must do some serious digging/heavy lifting through the valley of our fears, worries, insecurities to see how they have been covertly or secretly impacting/blocking/shaping our utilization of power in the world. Pluto is associated with purging or eliminating whatever is decaying or putrefying inside us so that we can lighten our load and move on.

Additionally, on the shadow side, with the Sun in conquest-oriented Aries, there can be a tendency for power struggles to ensue, or more of a willingness to engage in manipulative behaviors, in a bid to hold onto what is feared may be passing away.

Gauging our enthusiasm for whatever we are doing at the moment is often an insightful barometer to seeing if we are truly on track with our heart’s passion and purpose. We may want to use our level of enthusiasm as a trusted benchmark for our various activities today as the Moon traverses through “truth-seeking” Sagittarius, a sign that naturally steers us in the direction of what brings us the greatest amount of personal joy and inner fulfillment. Lovable Venus is also sextile bighearted Jupiter, the planetary ruler of Sadge. This sweet influence can also aid us in seeking out playful pursuits that gently serve to spread the cosmic love around.

The Moon in probing Scorpio admonishes us to dig deeper into matters today. With the illuminating Sun also opposing secretive Pluto, Scorpio’s ruler, we have an even greater likelihood of being able to uncover and solve some of life’s perplexing riddles. Sun-Pluto is akin to shining a flashlight (Sun) into a cave (Pluto). Things that were hidden are suddenly brought out into the open and their emergence can be very telltale and transforming.

This aspect also carries with it a more intense concentration or focuses of energy which helps to fill us with greater determination and ability to achieve our ends. The potential downside with it is that it can incline us to want to force matters and when that happens, we can often find ourselves suddenly meeting up with some formidable resistance. “Force is all-conquering, but its victories are short-lived.” Abraham Lincoln.

Additionally, we have the Sun squaring rebellious Uranus which also tends to encourage us to defy tradition or challenge authority. Part of why we may be doing this, too, is because we are seeking greater personal freedom. We perhaps internally sense that our socialized conditioning is holding us back from expressing our true nature.

At the same time, this influence can also inspire us to be much more innovative in our daily approach to our lives. Uranus is the planet of invention and genius. Today is really an excellent day to for brainstorming and for achieving mental breakthroughs, especially since we also have intellectual Mercury in creative Leo forming an exact sextile to expansive Jupiter in curious Gemini.

This Mercury-Jupiter aspect should help to unleash a floodgate of ideas for us. It is excellent for speaking and writing. It may also introduce some much needed humor or light-hearted spontaneity into our day to subdue more of the Sun-Pluto, Sun-Uranus potential drama. Mercury-Jupiter is also an ideal aspect for allowing us to see the big picture. “Nobody will ever notice that. Filmmaking is not about the tiny details. It’s about the big picture.” Ed Wood

Today may also potentially be one of the “standout days” of the year for us, because the Cancer Sun is activating the game-changing Uranus-Pluto square, forming a cardinal T-square in the sky. The cardinal t-square itself tends to make things pop. It often serves as a catalyst to galvanize us into action. Elvis, for example, was born with a cardinal t-square in his chart and we know how he shook up the music world.  We may also get a greater glimpse or preview into the general meaning or message of the long-term Uranus square Pluto influence and its implication for our lives today.

COSMIC WEATHER:

We have a potentially highly charged day today with expander Jupiter in pioneering Aries forming an exact opposition to contracting Saturn (5:56 pm) in evaluating Libra. The illuminating Sun is also in start me up Aries and exactly square to transformer Pluto (8:09 am) in ambitious Capricorn. The Moon also enters futuristic, discerning Aquarius (7:01 am).

Five of the planets are now in the action-packed cardinal signs (Aries, Libra, Capricorn), moving towards the steroidal New Moon in Aries on April 3rd, when we will have five planets in Aries and a total of eight planets in the active cardinal signs. With all this energy building up we are potentially likely to be feeling more physically and mentally restless in the days ahead, or very anxious/eager for new beginnings.

Today could be both a time of revelations and also a day of reckoning when we are able to glean fresh insight into how we are balancing and managing the various affairs of our lives (Jupiter opposite Saturn). We also may become much more aware of the scope of work that we still need to do to get our lives in better order. Also, this is most likely a time when we are going to be held accountable (Saturn) for our previous actions and decisions.

With Sun-Pluto there can possibly be a toppling of expectations that may find us having to retool our plans. We also may want to avoid ego disputes.
