“I shall look at you out of the corner of my eye, and you will say nothing. Words are the source of misunderstandings.” Antoine de Saint-Exupery

COSMIC WATCH:

A Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in “communication” Gemini today, at 6 degrees (9:45 am EST), puts a spotlight on logical thinking, our conversations or exchanges with others, and information gathering and sharing. With the Sun also in opposing Sagittarius, we are made aware of how our personal beliefs and biases (Sagittarius) can creep into our thought process (Gemini) and correspondingly color it.

Full Moons signify endings or release, while eclipses often represent critical turning points or junctures in our lives. Both provide us the opportunity for greater illumination. With this Lunar Eclipse in “cerebral” Gemini, we may find that we need to modify our beliefs and thinking now to accommodate changing scenarios, or even breakthroughs in our own consciousness.

This Eclipse is in a wide conjunction with optimistic, growth-oriented Jupiter, which can help to give us more upbeat expectations for the future. Jupiter represents our faith and hope. At the same time, with Mars conjunct Pluto in Capricorn and Venus conjunct Saturn in Scorpio, we are also very aware of the need to carefully manage the resources already in our possession now, trimming the fat or belt-tightening, wherever needed. Saturn representing the principal of conservation, Pluto governing elimination.

It’s interesting, too, that we have the talks (Gemini) going on now, on Capitol Hill, about the pending “fiscal cliff” in government (Capricorn), and what to do about it. The politicians will likely be needing to do some impressive mental gymnastics, in the days and weeks ahead, to solve the crisis.

Also, Saturn favorably sextile to Pluto, for the next month or so, should help to create a climate where some kind of resolution is possible for this situation, as these two can be extremely resourceful when they are paired together. Saturn-Pluto also symbolizing the ability to transform or alter (Pluto) the world or structures around us (Saturn). Too, Pluto specifically governs debt and taxes.

Lunar Eclipses can be felt for up to three to six months and we can also feel their impact several days in advance.

Some Gemini Moon Activities: visiting bookstores, libraries, attending lectures, speaking engagements, writing, teaching, short trips, involvement with siblings, neighbors, shopping for cars or phone equipment, sightseeing, social networking.

Happy Eclipse Blessings to you! Would also love to hear about your Eclipse stories, if you would care to comment down below.

“God uses broken things. It takes broken soil to produce a crop, broken clouds to give rain, broken grain to give bread, broken bread to give strength. It is the broken alabaster box that gives forth perfume. It is Peter, weeping bitterly, who returns to greater power than ever.” Vance Havner

COSMIC WATCH:

“Assertive” Mars is conjunct “transforming” Pluto today (3:17 pm EST). This is potentially a very powerful and renewing combination of energy that can significantly strengthen our focus and determination. It can also increase our insight and general awareness into ourselves, including perhaps helping us to understand some of the deeper reasons or hidden motivations behind our behavior. Metaphorically, this aspect can make us feel a little like our (psychological) shackles are finally being removed. Too, this is an ideal period for purge projects. Or, makeovers.

This is also an influence that can serve to connect us with what is seemingly our special destiny or purpose in life. We may feel more of a sense what it is that we came here to do now, along with an urgency to act on that mission.

On the shadow side, our egos may not take too kindly to any sort of perceived restraint or interference from others now. Unfortunately, Mars-Pluto is all too often associated with setting up a more combustible atmosphere in which power struggles tend to ensue. Of course, when we deliberately choose to seek out the common ground between us, we can usually find a way to work together. “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” Helen Keller

Famous Birthdays November 27: Jimi Hendrix, Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg. “I think one of my father’s great legacies is the people that he inspired and the generation that he inspired transformed America through civil rights, women’s rights, equal justice, and they have passed that on to their children and grandchildren.” Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg.

Enjoy your Tuesday!

COSMIC WATCH:

“To be nobody but yourself in a world doing its best to make you everybody else means to fight the hardest battle any human can ever fight and never stop fighting.” – e. e. cummings

With the Moon’s entrance into “eclectic” Aquarius (7:10 am EST), it’s time to celebrate our own individuality and uniqueness. To reflect upon what it is that identifies us and sets us apart from others. Also, perhaps, to ponder upon the endless variation that exists all around us, not only in other people, but throughout all of nature.

What do you personally make of a system, a Universe, that is perpetually spawning so much diversity?

We have, in essence, a double-whammy of Aquarian energy at our disposal today with the Moon also sextiling innovative Uranus, the ruler of Aquarius (3:29 pm EST). Moon-Uranus is an excellent aspect for challenging the status quo, or for trying new approaches, particularly in a group setting. Although, with the Moon’s square to skeptical Saturn (4:10 pm EST), we may also need to be able to fully explain, in a flash, to the potential naysayers, the wisdom or utility of our ways. “A man always has two reasons for doing anything: a good reason and the real reason.” J.P. Morgan

Famous Birthdays November 18: Jean Driscoll, Linda Evans. “Find out what you don’t want to know about yourself, what you’re afraid of.” Linda Evans.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Astrology November 13, 2012: New Moon Solar Eclipse in Scorpio

“Though I think and speak of greater becoming, I, too, am an infinite work in progress.” T. F. Hodge

Today’s New Moon in “transformational” Scorpio, at 22 degrees (5:08 pm EST), is also a Total Solar Eclipse, a phenomenon which occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, and the Moon fully blocks out the face of the Sun. The impact of an eclipse can last for up to 3 to 6 months. However, eclipses often seem to be most keenly felt about a week before, and then for a few days afterwards.

While Eclipses are highly charged events that tend to “speed things up,” this does not mean that they should necessarily be construed as either good or bad in themselves, although, in ancient times, eclipses were often viewed in a more negative or dubious manner. This perception, however, was probably due simply to a lack of astronomical knowledge.

Every New Moon is a chance for us to experience new beginnings. It is a time when we set our intentions for the new month. Today’s New Moon Eclipse in Scorpio highlights the themes of this sign: shared resources, sex, intimacy, money, power, renewal, elimination, mysteries, metaphysics, things of a hidden nature.  We will want to be setting our intentions around some of those themes now.

Scorpio is also a water sign, which governs our emotions. In complex Scorpio, we tend to feel things very deeply. It is also a sign that often finds us grappling with extreme scenarios / or opposing archetypes. On a metaphoric level, Scorpio is known for shining a bright light into our dark caves, giving us a chance to integrate the submerged or unconscious forces, with our conscious awareness.

Scorpio is additionally the sign of passion and our deepest desires. It is often only when we are living out our passions, doing what we truly enjoy, that we feel most alive and revitalized (transformed), when we genuinely sense or feel in sync with our life’s purpose. In many cases, too, the pathway that leads us to a more passionate, fulfilling lifestyle is only discovered after we have traversed through the “valley of (Scorpio) elimination,” removing from our lives whatever is blocking or hindering our authentic self-expression.

Too, often what needs to go on the chopping block first, before we can really come alive and grow in awareness of our self purpose, are other people’s expectations for us. Included here, would be the societal norms or dictates for our behavior, which can often significantly thwart our creativity and diminish our self-esteem.

Today’s New Moon Eclipse is not receiving any major planetary aspects to it. Perhaps this means that it is free to do its own “transformational thing” in our lives, without any interference.

Intellectual Mercury is also retrograde in unbridled Sagittarius, forming another exact square to foggy Neptune in Pisces (7:02 pm EST), the same aspect that we had during the last Full Moon in Taurus and the arrival of hurricane Sandy (Neptune). With Mercury-Neptune aligned, there is always the chance for some mental confusion, or missing information.

On a collective level, a top story in the news (Mercury) now is former CIA Director, David Petraeus, and his alleged extra-marital affair (Scorpio) with his female biographer, a scandalous (Neptune) matter that abruptly caused him to resign from his post as head of the CIA, an intelligence-gathering organization with an inherently secretive (Scorpionic) mission.

This whole story also, of course, unfolding in the days leading up to today’s potent Scorpio New Moon Eclipse, giving many of us a chance, perhaps, to also reflect upon the complicated nature of our own intimate desires (Scorpio), and how they can sometimes radically impact or shape our behavior – and not always in very flattering ways. Also, with the Eclipse today, the Petraeus sex scandal reportedly has widened to include more individuals, even the current U.S. NATO Commander in Afghanistan. Some are also reportedly already jokingly referring to the matter “as the curse of the commander’s job.” (Fox News).

“Someone told me the delightful story of the crusader who put a chastity belt on his wife and gave the key to his best friend for safekeeping, in case of his death. He had ridden only a few miles away when his friend, riding hard, caught up with him, saying ‘You gave me the wrong key!” Anais Nin.

New Moon in Scorpio activities: Purging, shedding whatever is outworn; surgical interventions, or removing whatever is decayed or malignant; emotional detoxification; psychotherapy; hypnotherapy; sex therapy; past-life regression; séances; mining; searching for buried treasure; archeological digs; past-life regression; séances; handling estate matters, or affairs of the dead; dealing with taxes, credit, or debt issues; studying psychology, metaphysics, astral travel.

Happy Eclipse blessings to you!

COSMIC WATCH:

“The most important thing in communication is to hear what isn’t being said.”
Peter Drucker

The Moon shifts into “chatty” Gemini this afternoon (2:40 pm EDT), offering up a surefire forum for conversation and exchanging information with each other. Too, as Peter Drucker noted above, we will likely be afforded ample opportunity to pay special attention to the various nuances of communication now, including noting what is not being said. Also, perhaps, observing how things are being said – the intonation, the rate of speech.

Too, isn’t it always fascinating to observe individual body language and to see how it supports, or does not support, the verbalization? This aspect is perhaps even more intriguing for us now with the Sun’s passage through investigative, probing Scorpio, a time when we are naturally more inclined to want to play detective and go below the surface of things. “Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.” Albert Einstein

The Gemini Moon also finishes up her day with a late night trine to sweet Venus (11:33 pm EDT), hopefully paving the way for greater intimacy. Venus symbolizes our power of attraction and need for connection. “They slipped briskly into an intimacy from which they never recovered.” F. Scott Fitzgerald, This Side of Paradise.

Moon in Gemini activities: social media, writing, public speaking, lecturing, teaching, cold-calling, networking, sightseeing, short trips, automobile shopping, events with siblings, information-gathering or fact-finding, reporting.

Famous People Born October 31: Dan Rather, Michael Landon. “I think all of us create our own miracles.” Michael Landon.

What do you think makes someone an effective communicator?

COSMIC WATCH:

“If you expect nothing from anybody, you’re never disappointed.” Sylvia Plath

It’s normal to have expectations. Today, however, with intellectual Mercury entering into the mix of the more volatile, unpredictable Uranus-Pluto alignment, it may be wise to withhold, or at least minimize, some of our mental expectations and try coasting in neutral instead. That way, if things don’t turn out entirely as we had planned, we won’t be so disappointed.

Too, there is always the possibility that things could take a twist and turn out better than we might have thought they would. With Uranus and Pluto, we often never really know what might come down. They are both excellent for keeping us on our toes, helping us to fashion creative, original responses to our environment.

Mercury-Uranus often brings us surprising news and Mercury-Pluto often seems to force us to go deeper into our thinking. Too, sometimes with the Mercury-Pluto influence we are more prone to finding out or parlaying secret or confidential information.

The Moon’s foray into adventurous Sagittarius (12:34 pm EDT) should also be a favorable assist for us, as it can help us to be more curious, futuristic, and flexible in our perceptions and reactions. Also it can help us to see the big picture. “I wanted a perfect ending. Now I’ve learned, the hard way, that some poems don’t rhyme, and some stories don’t have a clear beginning, middle, and end.” Gilda Radner

Lovable Venus (money, values, relationships) is also sextile to expansive Jupiter. This may aid us in attracting the emotional and or material resources that we desire. It is also a very creative influence that favors artistic or musical endeavors.

Famous September 20 Birthdays: Upton Sinclair, Arnold Palmer, Sophia Loren. “Beauty is how you feel inside, and it reflects in your eyes. It is not something physical.” Sophia Loren

COSMIC WATCH:

“Intuition is seeing with the soul.” Dean Koontz

Intellectual Mercury in creative Leo is forming a 120-degree trine to Uranus in self-expressive Aries (9:27 am EDT). Uranus is considered the higher octave of Mercury and is linked with our more brilliant or genius impulses and also our intuition. Mercury-Uranus tends to quicken our mental activity, in addition to helping to showcase our original perceptions. It can also suddenly ignite our intuition, or the voice of our spirit. Accordingly, today may be an excellent day for brainstorming, trying new approaches to old problems, making discoveries, and for tuning into that “still, small voice within” for wisdom and guidance.

Meanwhile, the monthly Moon-Saturn conjunction in balancing Libra (11:22 am EDT) may also find us focusing on what we perceive to be our duties or obligations. Usually at the heart of this aspect we find lessons in responsibility or accountability. “The right thing to do and the hard thing to do are usually the same.” Steve Maraboli

Famous July 25 Birthdays:  Matt LeBlanc, Louise Brown (the world’s first test-tube baby). “I used to think about how I was conceived quite a lot when I was 10 or 11, but I don’t think about it at all now that so many other babies have been born in the same way.” Louise Brown

How do you view intuition? How do you know when to listen to it? What has been your experience with it?

Astrology July 15, 2012: “Standing Guard” Sun Square Saturn

astrology for july 15 2012, business coaching, career coaching, communication, daily horoscope, horoscope july 15 2012, life coaching, Moon in Gemini, setting boundaries, Springsteen McCartney concert silenced in Hyde Park London

COSMIC WATCH:

“Self-defense is nature’s eldest law.” John Dryden

With the “illuminating” Sun squaring “guarded” Saturn today (12:14 am EDT) we may feel more of a desire us to protect our own interests now, as Saturn symbolically represents our need for security. This may also translate into setting boundaries around areas that are dear to us. Too, sometimes setting appropriate boundaries can be an important form of self-care. Or put another way, a boundary can be viewed as a safe harbor container for our energy. Boundaries help us to conserve our resources so we are not all over the place. They also help us to construct and communicate our individual identities.

Additionally, the Moon in communication Gemini serves us well here as it can help us to articulate our feelings in an effective manner so people know where we stand on things. When we are unable to communicate our needs or desires is when we often run the risk of having our boundaries compromised or misunderstood. “Do not say a little in many words but a great deal in a few.” Pythagoras

Famous July 15 Birthdays: Jesse Venture, Linda Ronstadt. “The thing that you have to be prepared for is that other people don’t always dream your dream.” Linda Ronstadt

Entertainment News Update: I happened to see on Twitter this morning that the Bruce Springsteen-Paul McCartney concert at London’s Hyde Park was silenced last night after the two reportedly defied a 10:30 pm curfew. Of course, as an astrologer, I immediately got to thinking about the nature of the more restrictive (sometimes punitive) Sun square Saturn aspect in operation now. Karma Lord Saturn has often been likened to a paternal authority figure. Saturn typically has no problem taking us to task when we do not play by the rules, as this planet can be a stickler for conformity. Ironically, Saturn is also associated with hearing issues and deafness and these two iconic entertainers had their performances silenced. Too, communicator Mercury just went retrograde yesterday in entertainment Leo. 🙂

What is it that you feel you must you defend at all costs? What gives you a sense of security? How might others know you by your boundaries?

Astrology July 13, 2012: Uranus Stations Retrograde!

astrology for july 13 2012, life coaching, metaphysical life coaching, Rolling Stones 50th anniversary of their first live performance, The Beatles, uranus stations retrograde

COSMIC WATCH:

How often have we heard, “It’s not what happens to you that’s important, it’s how you respond to what happens that’s important?” That sentiment is probably something that we may want to keep in mind today as we have “awakening” Uranus, the planet associated with liberation, change, and the unexpected, stationing retrograde at 8 degrees of Aries  (5:49 am EDT). Uranus will be retrograde until December 12.

When a planet stations, it tends to call more attention to itself for a few days. Of course, with the nature of Uranus being more of a wild card, traditional wisdom would suggest that we might want to do our best to remain in more of a flexible mental state instead of trying to block or resist whatever might be taking shape around us now. Remember, too, what Carl Jung said: “What you resist, persists!” Also, by adopting a mindset that precludes that what may be manifesting is for our highest good and in alignment with our soul’s purpose or destiny, can be a very positive way to fully embrace and dance with this more “unknown commodity” type of energy.

Retrograde periods are also a time when we pause and do a review of a planet’s energy to see how we have been utilizing it in our lives. Uranus stationing retrograde may find us seriously reflecting upon the more meaningful changes that have occurred in our lives recently, especially since Uranus first entered pioneering Aries, and evaluating the impact of those changes on our consciousness to date. Part of the purpose of Uranus in astrology is to metaphorically stretch us. It helps us to break free from the molds that we have been in. Its activated ray is often key in helping us to shift our perspectives. It can be a very freeing influence for us and also a very essential influence for our survival as the intrinsic nature of life is change.

This particular retrograde period of Uranus is perhaps even more pivotal because of its near exact square alignment with regenerating Pluto, the mighty god of makeovers. Uranus-Pluto suggests that transformation (Pluto) can be very freeing (Uranus), even though initially we may be visited with some degree of upheaval with it, as a natural part of the rebirthing process. As many of us into astrology know, the decade of the sixties contained Uranus conjunct Pluto, a time that saw massive cultural change and a seismic shift in values in America and elsewhere.

Rock music also exploded on the scene in the sixties, led by the British invasion of the Beatles, Stones, and other groups into the U.S. The music became a major vehicle itself for helping to shift the collective consciousness. Ironically, on the eve of Uranus stationing retrograde now, in its first tight square to Pluto since its conjunction with it back in the sixties, the Rolling Stones celebrated and publicly reflected upon their 50 years together as a band and what it was like for them in the early days, including their experience of the culture at the time.

It was on July 12, 1962 that the Rolling Stones first appeared together at London’s Marquee Club. On that date, Venus was also conjunct Uranus in entertainment Leo. When Venus and Uranus align, there can be an electrifying chemistry (Uranus) occurring in relationships (Venus). Venus also symbolically depicts artists and musicians and combined with innovative and revolutionizing Uranus, there can be a birthing of great creativity and genius in these areas. What is also very cool is that Paul McCartney and John Lennon both met each other for the very first time with this same Venus-Uranus aspect in Leo. How’s that for synchronicity?

Expansive Jupiter was trining Neptune and form-builder Saturn was also squaring Neptune when the Stones debuted. Neptune is the ruler of our imagination and also the higher octave of Venus. Neptune is also associated with music, transcendental  meditation, psychedelic drugs, and the urge for escape.

We will also want to note the house in our personal horoscopes where Uranus is stationing retrograde as that is the area of life that is especially open for review now, especially from a consciousness standpoint. Some of the questions we may want to ask ourselves: “How am I breaking out of my mold in this realm of life?” “How has my perspective shifted, so far, on the matters connected with this house?” “What opportunities do I have to be original here, or to display my individuality?” “My self-sufficiency?” “What might I be rebelling against in this area of my life?” “What events have happened in this life sector that I was not expecting and what has changed for me since these things have occurred?
