“Life has its own hidden forces which you can only discover by living.”Soren Kierkegaard
There’s a Full Moon at 26 degrees of Scorpio today (7:10 am EDT). Briefly, a Full Moon represents a culmination or peaking of awareness. With a Full Moon we are often more privy to revelations, as we have “more light” by which to see things. The volume on our emotional responses (Moon) may also be turned up.
Scorpio, as a quality of experience, is associated with intensity of expression, and also extremes of behavior. It is a more complex sign to figure out. The natural ruler of Scorpio is Pluto, which is known for its’ laser-like focus. When the Moon is in Scorpio, there is a greater depth of feeling and passion to us, and consequently we tend to react more powerfully to matters. Unfortunately, emotional outbursts can also manifest, if we are not careful to rein ourselves in. The Scorpio Moon additionally likes power and to be in charge, which means on the shadow side, we often need to simultaneously subdue our feelings of control or manipulation. Jealousy and possessiveness are also two other issues that many of us characteristically wrestle with when the Moon is deposited here.
Scorpio as a zodiacal sign stands guard over those areas of life that are normally hidden from view, such as our mind’s subconscious. It also governs intimacy and sex, or what is often expressed privately “behind closed doors.” Scorpio, as the opposite sign to money and possession Taurus, additionally depicts our attitudes concerning the sharing of our material resources with others, and is related to such mundane things as joint bank accounts and jointly-held possessions.
Since Scorpio presides over death (or the dissolution of form) and rebirth, it is also connected to insurance and estate matters. It also rules taxes, surgery, and regenerative healing techniques. Scorpio is furthermore linked to psychic development, channeling, and the spirit world, and to metaphysical matters in general. Its intrinsic approach is always to “go deep” and ponder mysteries wherever they may be found.
With the Full Moon falling in Scorpio, it could be that some or many of the areas above may be more highlighted now. We are also more likely to be in touch with our deepest, most passionate desires (Scorpio) or innermost feelings at this time. We may also have to address issues from our buried past (with Scorpio they often suddenly rise to the surface). Or possibly face the truth about things that we have been avoiding. Again, too, the Scorpio Full Moon can easily solicit overreactions from us, especially if we are not mindful of our behavior.
Too, the Full Moon now could mark transitions or endings, or pivotal turning points (Scorpio). This Scorpio Full Moon is also making a challenging square to vague, dissolving Neptune in surrendering Pisces. It is additionally forming a tight quinqunx (adjustment aspect) to excessive, boastful Jupiter in impulsive Aries (sign of the military), cautioning us not to go overboard or gamble unwisely with our resources. Also, with Neptune’s “veiled ray” on the scene, we may need to guard against being hoodwinked or misled by others. We also would be wise, ourselves, to avoid doing anything that is nefarious or deceitful. Sometimes, too, with Neptune, we unwittingly lead others on by not being in full possession of all the facts. We simply spew out misinformation or just perceive things in a distorted way.
On a more positive note, this lunation still finds Mercury (thoughts) and Venus (beauty and love) side by side in gentle, laid-back Taurus, a very creative sign, and both in a harmonious, compassionate sextile to imaginative Neptune. Taking the time to put into words, our deep love and affection for each other, and engaging in random acts of love and kindness (Neptune), can have very uplifting consequences for all of us now. Also, this aspect is excellent for creating or purchasing art or other objects of beauty, including adding a few “to die for” items to our wardrobe. Too, with the rejuvenating properties of the Scorpio Moon also involved, now would be an ideal time for age-defying beauty treatments or makeovers. Neptune also rules cosmetics, and all manner of masquerade and disguises. It is interesting, too, how when we do alter our outward appearance, we often are related to differently. In other words, it sets the stage for transforming responses from others.
“Men and women belong to different species, and communication between them is a science still in its infancy.”Bill Cosby 🙂
BTW, I read the other day that Oprah Winfrey (who has facilitated many personal makeovers through her show) plans to tape her talks shows for airing May 23rd and May 24th, on May 17th, at a special arena in Chicago, which will be able to hold over 20,000 of her fans. As an astrologer, of course, I immediately thought about the intensely emotional Scorpio Full Moon in affect and its fitting tie-in with poignant, transforming events, including farewells (endings). Too, with Mercury conjunct Venus in Taurus sextile idealistic, otherworldly Neptune (Neptune also rules the television camera), no doubt that Oprah will be magically “feeling the love” then from her audience and also the camera will be able to masterfully capturing the surreal (Neptune) images of this singular event.
As most of us know who faithfully watch Oprah, she is signing off with her daily syndicated talk show on May 25th, after being on the air for 25 years. She will still be actively involved with broadcasting, however, running her OWN network. Oprah has “Karma Lord” Saturn in Libra transiting at the very top of her chart now, near her tenth house of career. Often a time when one’s highest professional achievement is recorded.
Too, on May 25th, again the last day for the Oprah Show, the Sun will also fascinatingly be in communications Gemini and exactly sextile to futuristic Uranus in new beginnings Aries, signaling that some “big change is in the air.” Uranus also rules television broadcasting. The Sun-Uranus aspect also tends to coincide with more “unusual” or “out of the ordinary” (Uranus) events, and May 25th will, no doubt, go down in broadcast history as the day Oprah officially ended her talk show. The Moon will also be in reflective, sentimental Pisces that day. We wish Oprah all the best, but at the same time, we will miss her daily show. Afternoons will no longer be the same without her beaming, re-assuring presence lighting up the television screen.

“About half my designs are controlled fantasy, fifteen percent are total madness and the rest are bread-and-butter designs.”Manolo Blahnik
Normally the Moon in “analytical” Virgo bodes well for our operating more logically and systematically. And, while hopefully, this will still be the case for us today, we do need to be aware that there is also now greater proclivity for some “fuzzy thinking” because not only is the Virgo Moon’s ruler, Mercury, still in retrograde phase, it is also stressfully aligned today (semisquare) with “let me blur the boundaries for you” Neptune in imaginative Pisces (the sign Neptune rules). Neptune is the planet of fantasy, so we will want to be “double-checking” our facts today. Too, if some of our ideas seem a little “weird” or “spacey” to us, it may be best not to act on them or give them voice in public (could garner some strange looks, or raised eyebrows, if we do.) 🙂
Of course, with Neptune ruling “make-believe” and Mercury ruling the “news,” some of us today, too, may be disillusioned or disheartened (Neptune) about the entertainment news from ABC yesterday that the network will be axing “All My Children,” and “One Life To Live.” Kelly Ripa on “Live With Regis and Kelly” today recalled her days on AMC which launched her career.
BTW, when both of these soaps debuted on TV (‘One Life To Live’ on 7/15/68 and ‘All My Children’ on 1/5/70), “fantasy Neptune” was a big factor in each of the shows’ respective horoscopes. ‘One Life to Live‘ debuted with the Sun exactly favorably trine to Neptune in sexual Scorpio, while ‘All My Children” went on the air with Mercury exactly sextile Neptune in Scorpio (another positive, dreamy aspect). Of course, we always ideally want to have Neptune well-aspected in a “soap-opera” horoscope since we are dealing with the realm of “make-believe,” and when Neptune’s ray is stoked, we are more willing to be led by our imagination. Neptune also rules television.
Are you a fan of both or either of these shows? How do you feel about their pending departure? Bummed out? Feel a little like you have lost a family member? While I was personally a huge fan of the old “Dallas” evening “soap opera” show on CBS-TV, many moons ago, and was devastated when it went off the air (loved Larry Hagman as “JR”), I have never even watched one episode of ‘One Life To Live,’ or ‘All My Children.’ Always too busy working during the daytime. Of course, I know of Susan Lucci, the star of ‘All My Children.’ Too, Oprah Winfrey recently did a show on soap opera stars and Susan was on that show.

“The older I grow the more I listen to people who don’t talk much.” Germain G. Glien
COSMIC WEATHER: January 11th through the 16th
Mental Mercury (communication) and manic Mars (aggressive urge) are hogging most of the astrological press this week. That’s okay. We’ll respectfully give them their fifteen minutes.
Mercury wraps up its stay in visionary Sagittarius, dutifully heading for the ambitious, goat-studded hills of Saturn-ruled Capricorn (January 13th). Our thoughts become more practical, more focused.
Also, self-assertive Mars shifts out of conforming Capricorn for Aquarius’ more non-conforming terrain (January 15th), which is psychedelically-peppered, at this time, with aging hippies, awkwardly still trying to “do their own thing,” despite all the intense years of pot-smoking and skinny-dipping. Uranus-ruled Aquarius, a sign that likes to wickedly “bend the rules,” fully embraces diversity, even the die-hard, hippie kind. It’s probably a good thing, too, that the hippies at least have a place to go to, a sign to “call home.” 🙂
With Mars in Aquarius now, too, it’s possible that we could even temporarily befriend one or two of these tie-dyed beings. Maybe help them to find their way, or whatever it is that they still are looking for. Maybe another Woodstock? Could be they are sticking around to see the re-emergence of bell-bottoms as a major, hot fashion trend?
January 11th: Talker Mercury meets up with big hips Jupiter in blabbermouth Sagittarius. The end result: No one gets to have the last word on anything! Steady diet of redundant chatter permeates the air everywhere. Unless we have plenty of time on our hands, it’s best to refrain from asking anyone about their personal religious or political beliefs, or about anything controversial, for that matter, as we will likely be going at each other’s throat until the cows come home. Too, we tend to zealously over-estimate our humble abilities now, i.e. bite off more than we can chew, both literally and symbolically.
Also, we need to carefully, and systematically, scrutinize documents and contracts closely, before putting our ‘John or Mary Doe’ on them. With Mercury-Jupiter, we tend to “gloss over details,” as we’re thinking too much about the “big picture.” Mercury-Jupiter is all too often linked with misunderstandings because we tend to get sloppy or arrogant in our thinking and assume too much.
Moon in pioneering Aries still has us “blazing new trails,” although the opposition to taskmaster Saturn (8:48 pm EST) may temporarily put a roadblock in our path.
Questions to ask ourselves today: Do we tend to talk too much? Often put our foot in our mouth? What shuts us up quickly? What is our favorite topic to talk about?
January 12th: We are much more likely to feel comfortable taking unorthodox approaches with things, especially on the professional front, as we have enterprising Mars in industrious Capricorn sextile to innovative, freedom-seeking Uranus in creative Pisces. Job seekers may want to try new strategies today, particularly utilizing opportunities provided by social networking (Uranus rules the internet).
We all tend to shine more by inserting our clever originality into the picture, instead of mindlessly subscribing to the fuddy duddy status quo. The Universe is beckoning, actually clamoring for us today, to deviate from the norm. To venture outside of our cozy, designer-decorated boxes. Too, if we are up to serious mingling with others, we may get a chance to interface with highly progressive types, who can really move us forward, with their ingenious, if not wacky, off-the-wall ways of thinking.
For those of us who still maintain an active, or even a semi-active sex life (ruled by Mars), that intimate activity could possibly become more exciting now by trying out new, inventive “night moves” in the bedroom. Or, we may want to continue doing the same, sexy little things that we always do under the sheets, but with new lovers. Mars-Uranus likes to experiment, and also endows us with more of a scientific bent. Just pray that white laboratory mice don’t somehow enter into our nighttime equation.
The Moon also vacates accelerator Aries for lusty, self-indulgent Taurus (10:37 pm EST), which also may help our feverish, nocturnal meanderings. Chocolate, too, may be an especially heady aphrodisiac now. (Moon is in Taurus till the 15th.)
Probing questions to consider today: What is sex? Is it something we engaged in at one time with another person? Is there anything we can do now to hasten the return of it to our lives, now that we finally have this sexual Mars aspect beaming down upon us?
January 13th: Our enthusiasm knows no bounds as sexy, go-getter Mars sextiles fortuitous, expansive Jupiter, who is likely toting a large bag of goodies for us. This is a super aspect! Great time to forge ahead with important projects, get things done, especially anything business-related, as Mars is still in ambitious Capricorn, which rules status, career, and reputation. Also a more positive time for dealing with bankers, members of the military, politicians, journalists, writers, publishers, lawyers, teachers, travel agents, clergy, and athletes. Physical fitness and sports-related activities additionally get the green light. We’re loving competition now, as it gives us a golden chance to strut our hot stuff all over the place!
Our thoughts also become more pragmatic and serious today with Mercury’s return to utilitarian Capricorn, where it will stay until February 3rd. We excel now by adopting a communication style that is more purposeful and strategizing. It is also critical now that we let others know exactly what it is that we are hoping to accomplish with respect to our major goals. A time to enlist the support of higher-ups to our causes.
Possible questions to ponder now: What floats our boat? What gets us excited? If we could magically do anything today, what would we do? What are our goals for 2011? What can we do this very day that will help to move us forward, closer to attaining those goals?
January 14th: Moon continues in acquisition-minded Taurus, which governs money, possessions, and what we esteem or value. Our values, too, can often be decoded by what we spend our money on. We may want to focus now on practical ways to build up our precious nest egg, while simultaneously luxuriating around the house in our silk pajamas eating bon-bons. The Venus-ruled Taurus Moon is all about seeking out decadent pleasure, creature comforts, indulging the physical senses, in addition to having to grapple with the often “weightier issue” of procuring material security, a matter which can often feel like having a big “noose around our neck,” especially in today’s challenging economic climate.
Things to think about today:Are we satisfied with our present financial situation? Do we have enough money coming into our household to meet our daily needs, and to also lead the lifestyle that we desire? Too, are we grateful for the things that we already have in our life? Are we managing our resources diligently, or do we squander our money? Are there any steps that we can maybe take now to make our lives more materially-secure?
Also, in our quest for material abundance, should we try, perhaps, to get on the Oprah Show, before she goes off the air, in hopes that she will be characteristically playing Santa again in the near future? Maybe we should also go so far as to suggest to Oprah, maybe through an email to her website, oprah.com, that she make every future Oprah show, this 2011 season, a yuletide-spirited “favorite things show,” since this is, sadly, her last go round (aside, of course, from OWN), and that lucky Jupiter is still technically and philanthropically aligned with Oprah’s ruling planet, Uranus, which also rules broadcasting (Oprah is an Aquarian). Point out to her that it is “clearly written in the stars” for her to keep playing a generous Santa-type role now, since Jupiter rules Santa Claus, and she is in Uranian-ruled broadcasting, and these two planets are together now. Also, make her existentially aware of the fact that this same “Jupiter-Uranus configuration” is the very “believe in miracles” thing that she is always alluding to in her insightful, consciousness-raising dialogue with us. Don’t anyone say, either, that this is “too much of a stretch” here, about the possible Oprah involvement or rescue in our lives. We have all simply got to believe this, in order to achieve it! Jupiter-Uranus in visionary Pisces is about dreaming, and hope for a bright future, especially one with Hugh Jackman in Australia. We can’t help it if lovely, dear Oprah, just happens to be part of the equation. Simultaneously, we are very glad and thankful that she is.
It’s very cool, too, that when the magical Jupiter-Uranus aspect was exact to the minute last week, “St. Nick” Oprah publicly discussed making “Ted Williams,” an ex-radio announcer, the official voice of the OWN network. Not sure if this is going to happen, but we have got to love Ted’s timing! Surfacing when he did, thanks to that fortuitous, caring newspaper guy at the Columbus Dispatch, originally spotting him, and later going to bat for him by posting his encounter with Ted via a Pisces-ruled video on the Uranian-ruled internet. Uranus also rules radio announcers, with the Jupiter-Uranus aspect here, helping to miraculously sweeten their lot. So glad for all the success and love swirling around Ted Williams.
(Since originally writing the above on Monday, Ted has reportedly entered rehab for his alleged addiction problems. Apparently, with prompting from television’s Dr. Phil. Jupiter’s intrinsic nature can be protective, and aligned with Uranus, there can be a sudden “awakening” and swift movement in our affairs. Pisces also governs rehabilitation and rehab centers. Neptune, Pisces’ ruler, is associated with addiction and dependencies. Hopefully, Ted will now be able to acquire the care that his spirit maybe needs, so that he can continue positively on his path. To go from homelessness, to overnight celebrity on a world-stage, I believe, would be very stressful for most of us.
Another thing that I think has been enlightening about this Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Pisces now, on more of a collective basis, is that by hearing about Ted’s story, hearing about his struggles over the years, and his battle with his addictions, we are becoming keenly reminded again about the matter of addictions, a Pisces-related subject. (Too, of course, there has been the ongoing, high-profile story of Lindsey Lohan and her alleged addiction problems.)
So many of us privately suffer from addictions, whether to food, drugs, sex, etc. Also, ironically while writing/updating this right now, I just came across a news story that said that Oprah reportedly told Piers Morgan in an interview that she coped with depression, at one time, by eating “30 pounds of mac n’ cheese!” This overeating or binging by Oprah reportedly was a way of coping for her, in the face of her movie, “The Beloved,” flopping at the box office, sending her into a temporary, downward, emotional spiral. Also kind of weird here: Ted Williams just made those four Kraft Macaroni and Cheese commercials last week, as part of his newly-found fame. Could there be a possible Jupiter-Uranus connection to all this? The plot thickens! Or, would we be more technically correct here by saying, “the cheese melts?” Hopefully, too, Oprah won’t be tempted again to fall off the wagon, with the mac n’ cheese, despite Ted’s inadvertently “rubbing her nose in it” by recording the commercials.
In addition to representing addictions, Pisces also denotes those persons who are disenfranchised or downtrodden. Or maybe confined, hidden away. Or people who are simply “down on their luck,” with their voices suppressed or muted, or problematic, for one reason or another. Perhaps some of these individuals lead more nomadic type lifestyles i.e. are homeless, like Ted Williams. Or, it could be that they are mentally or physically ill. Also, of course, there is the very tragic matter of that shooter in Tucson, allegedly suffering from serious mental illness, who has suddenly come on all our radar screens now in the worst possible way. The “Pisces” experience often symbolizes that part of life that we prefer not to think about, or psychologically visit. As it can show us our limitations, our afflictions. Our pain and desperation.
Pisces, as a level of experience, however, can also nobly point out to us the deep need, both individually and collectively, for having sympathy and extending compassion. Reminding us of the basic fact of life on the earth plane: That, in the end, we are all “our brother’s keeper.” That it is also not always a wise idea to prematurely “assign judgment or blame.” That we are all vulnerable, from time to time, in our lives. That we can also all thrive and benefit sometimes from an angelic, caring, helping hand. Sometimes even a simple smile, or a kind word, can give someone infinite hope and faith and help someone to rise above the ashes.)
“He who sows courtesy reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love.”St. Basil.
January 15th: Energy planet Mars, symbolically depicting the urge for self-assertion, takes the big plunge and officially sky-rockets into hi-tech, futuristic Aquarius, the opinionated, scientific home of wacky astronomers waxing delusional and very bitterly about 13 zodiacal signs. (See link below) Mars will stay in this sign until February 22nd.
With Mars in Aquarius, a sign which represents cultural diversity and “changing things up,” we are eager to venture off into unchartered waters, as long as we are able to cart along, of course, our smartphones and other technological gadgetry. Aquarius rules innovation and invention, especially more of a scientific or technological nature.
Theoretically we “progress” now by embracing or cultivating change, and utilizing new approaches or strategies in our daily endeavors. As part of this orientation we may want to collaborate with more original-type thinkers, or more non-comforming types, to get a fresh take on things. We may want also to expand our networking efforts now and get involved more with group causes, or group ventures (Aquarius rules groups and friends). Mars in Aquarius = energy for groups.
The Moon also enters curious, loquacious Gemini today. In Gemini, the Moon provides us with more of a penchant and willingness for flexibility, as well as more of an ability to go with the flow. We’re not as rigid now, and we’re also wanting to physically move around. We have more of a capacity to see the humor in any situation, too, as this Moon tends to be more light-hearted. Humor is a positive trait that often gets overlooked, but it’s something that can come in handy for coping with the mighty stresses and woes of living in Madonna’s material world, but, unfortunately, without Madonna’s nifty checkbook.
Questions to entertain today:How are we about embracing change? Do we welcome new strategies, or prefer to stick with the tried-and-true? Is there any one area in our life now that could perhaps benefit by employing new methods? If we could change one thing about ourselves, what would it be? What is the most off-the-wall thing we have done in the past year? Have we even done anything off-the-wall, lately? If not, why not? Could it be that we are packaged too tightly, and that we should give ourselves permission to roam around a little, or a lot?
“They must often change, who would be constant in happiness or wisdom.” Confucius

January 16th: Moon continues in cheerful, chatterbox Gemini. We’re more predisposed to reveling over gossip at the water cooler today, in our glorious quest to gather information. No matter whether or not there is a worthwhile component to the info. It’s the gathering process, the collecting of data, which is most important to the Gemini Moon. Reading, conversation, short trips can stimulate now. Great time for any sales or cold-calling activity, or for matters of self-promotion.
Later, an important bond or tie could also be formed with the Moon’s magical trine to stabilizing Saturn in partnership Libra (3:47 pm EST). A perfect time then to communicate our more serious intentions.
Questions to possibly grapple with today:Is there something, a subject matter, that we have been dying to talk about, for a while, but have been hesitant to do so? What has been holding us back from having this conversation? What are some of our favorite words? If we had to describe ourselves in one word, what would that word be? Lovable? Toxic? Brilliant? Sensitive? Diabolical? I think for me, I would have to go with “light-hearted.”
“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.” Mary Engelbreit.
Have a great week! Reach for the stars! Including here, of course, Hollywood stars, like George Clooney. Keep hope alive! 🙂

“My second favorite household chore is ironing. My first being hitting my head on the top bunk bed until I faint.” Erma Bombeck.
It’s day two of the Moon in Virgo (until 10:50 pm EDT). What could that portend for us? What do I see taking shape in the crystal ball? Hmm.
How about a bucket and a mop! After all, it is a Saturday. And, the Virgo Moon is a nut about cleanliness – I’m even cleaning the keyboard as I write this.
Plus we have Venus now deposited in Cancer, signifying a love of the home, and nobody wants a dirty home, especially when the Moon is in tidy Virgo.
Voila. So that’s it! Our karma question has been readily solved for today.
Yes, the more I think about it, it is our destiny now to be submerged in all manner of cleaning. Virgo is also talented at organizing, so we can line up all of our cleaning supplies and related paraphernalia in a most adroit manner before we even get started.
I also realize, too, that many of us are probably feeling a great deal of moral and spiritual angst today, with the Jupiter (expansion) opposition to Saturn (contraction) almost exact. But, we’ll talk more about the full meaning of that weighty influence tomorrow, when it will indeed be exact (1:38 am EDT).
Too, Saturn is also in Virgo so why not try to make that cranky old planet a tad happier by removing that annoying ring around the kitchen sink and giving him less competition.
Celebrity News:
Oprah did a “farewell interview” with Simon Cowell on Thursday. Fittingly, Simon’s horoscope (born 10/7/59) was echoing that same “parting sentiment” that day. He had the transiting Venus exactly opposite his natal Saturn, a classic aspect of separation that also hints at a little bit of sadness.
Venus represents what we love and value. It shows what we are attached to in the guise of our relationships. It also signifies our creative attachments and things of beauty that we have perhaps given birth to, such as exquisite works of art, paintings.
Saturn meanwhile represents those “safe structures” that we have painstakingly erected in the world as a result of going to work every day and responsibly doing our job. Saturn showcases to all our composite of talents and skills that we have so keenly honed over time that consequently allows us to eke out a living on the planet.
Indeed, Saturn symbolizes the world that we have diligently assembled for ourselves. It’s like our little empire. A few people, like Simon, as well as Oprah, are able to manifest gigantic Saturnian empires that have the net affect of allowing them to wield an inordinate amount of “earthly power” and “status.”
Saturn can also signify poignant endings, however, or a letting go of those self-made trappings, especially when paired with relationship Venus, Goddess of Love.
So, on Thursday, with transiting Venus in vulnerable Cancer, the zodiacal sign of the womb, opposite Simon’s Saturn in the professional sign of Capricorn, Simon was saying “goodbye” to a part of the world (Saturn) that he had so creatively crafted (Venus) and birthed, and that had afforded him a notable amount of material riches and worldly success.
He was also saying goodbye, in many ways, to the extension of corresponding relationships that he had forged with the fans who were part of that reality (Saturn) that he had manifested on American Idol, hence there was a palpable tone of sadness in the air during the interview and Simon’s demeanor was also more serious. The “opposition aspect” is an aspect depicting a full culmination of awareness regarding what one has previously set into motion.
For the last few days, Simon has also had in his horoscope, transiting Mercury, denoting thoughts and communication, exactly trine his natal Pluto, the gatekeeper of all of our secrets. Pluto represents the subconscious and all that is hidden from view. It symbolically depicts what we have buried inside us at the deepest level of our beings.
With Mercury aligned with Pluto, we often get in touch with those hidden elements inside ourselves that we may have previously kept submerged or maybe didn’t even consciously know existed. Mercury-Pluto is associated with psychotherapy and arriving at a new awareness of the nature of things as a result of unearthing hidden feelings and emotions.
With this aspect, we are also more willing to articulate and share our secrets. During the interview with Oprah, for example, Simon mentioned that he suffers from depression and said that he can be very difficult to be around because of his moods. He also mentioned that he has felt under pressure because so many people depend on him.
I have previously written about Simon Cowell’s horoscope on my blog here, and am not going to go into much detail again about it, except to say that one of the most notable aspects in Simon’s chart is his Venus and Pluto conjoined in workaholic Virgo, the sign of service.
Venus, as I mentioned earlier, denotes what we love and in the sign of Virgo, it shows that we are inclined to be “married to our work.” Simon even told Oprah that his work has been sort of a girlfriend for him. Pluto also speaks to our need for power and persons with this aspect can be very obsessive and controlling in going about obtaining that power in the workplace.
Venus-Pluto is often the signature of someone who can be completely consumed by their work to the point of obsession (Pluto). It is very hard for these persons to let go and delegate and also harder for them to relax physically, as Virgo is a more nervous sign physiologically.
Virgo is also all about perfection with an insatiable desire to serve and please and when natives of this sign feel that they are not delivering here, they can feel boatloads of guilt. Simon also addressed this very same guilt issue.
What is very positive now for Simon is that he has transiting Pluto, which often acts as a transforming agent in our lives, exactly trine to his natal Venus-Pluto configuration. This more harmonious trine influence is allowing him to broaden out his scope of pleasurable things (Venus) in his life, beyond the confines of the work sphere (Virgo), to the formation of a very significant personal relationship with someone he apparently plans on marrying. As I wrote about earlier when I did his horoscope, transiting Pluto to Venus can bring in a soul mate and it does sound like Simon feels that way about the current female presence in his life, at least that is what I gathered from hearing him talking to Oprah.
It could be, too, that Simon’s professional work, in the next couple years, perhaps his involvement with the new American X-Factor, or maybe something else that he is working on,is also going to propel him to even bigger and newer heights on the world stage.
Mick Jagger, incidentally, wrote the lyrics to Satisfaction when Pluto was exactly conjoined his Venus, which is also in the same sign as Simon’s (Virgo). Satisfaction in a left-handed way is a “soul mate” for Mick and the Stones in that it is their trademark piece of work that most identifies them. Maybe Simon has something else inside him, as well, that he will be birthing soon, that will also impart some kind of fresh trademark status for him beyond his many achievements already. We’ll just have to wait and see and wish him the best. I know I will personally miss him on Idol, the show will not be the same, but I am looking forward to watching Simon on the X-Factor.
Enjoy your Saturday! Tidy up your nest today with that Virgo Moon. You know, she doesn’t want to see one speck of dust lurking around anywhere.

“Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?” – Ernest Gaines.
We have the Sun today at the tale end of pragmatic Taurus harmoniously linking up (sextile) to innovator Uranus in Pisces. There is fresh opportunity here to improve our lives in a practical way (Taurus) with the inclusion of some new methods and ideas (Uranus).
With Sun-Uranus, we may suddenly have some “aha moments” in which we are able to figure some things out that may have previously stumped us. Uranus rules genius and invention. This is a very cool influence. It also speaks voluminously to us about liberation (Uranus) and personal freedom and wanting to include more freedom into our lives.
Relationship Venus is also now in nurturing Cancer, the sign of home and family. We start focusing more on nesting matters with Venus here although today, with the restless, exploratory Sun-Uranus ray in operation, we may not be ready just yet to find a good measure of our fulfillment sticking close to the home front.
The Moon leaves entertaining, self-expressive Leo and heads into neat-freak Virgo at 7:59 pm EDT at which time we may decide that, yes, perhaps our true purpose and calling in this lifetime may in fact be to stand behind a vacuum tidying up our little (Cancer) nests.
Astrology in real life:
Did you see Oprah yesterday? The program was kind of a poster child for what we had playing out in the heavens on Wednesday.
Oprah started the show talking to Bret Michaels, his first TV interview since his brain hemorrhage last month. Bret spoke about his new lease on life after his near-death experience.
Then she interviewed country star Chely Wright. Chely talked about how her coming out as a lesbian has helped her to finally live her truth.
Yesterday, if you recall, we had Venus exactly square Uranus. Venus rules romance and relationships. When it is paired with rebel Uranus in our own personal horoscopes, we have a tendency to form unconventional or non-traditional alliances.
Venus-Uranus correspondingly denotes gay and lesbian unions, a topic in which I have written about a few times before here at this blog. Also, on days when we have Venus-Uranus aspects, gay and lesbian issues often move to the forefront with respect to the collective. Oprah’s TV Show, of course, reaches millions of viewers and has a role in shaping mass consciousness.
We also had Mercury, which rules communication and interviews, exactly trine Pluto on Wednesday. As I noted here yesterday, often with Mercury-Pluto we hear about big secrets, as Pluto epitomizes things that are hidden.
As ruler of Scorpio, Pluto also specifically governs hidden sexual issues, as well as matters of death and rebirth. Pluto also rules the masses.
Chely poignantly revealed to us on Oprah how she had lived a total lie all her life by not coming forward with her true sexuality (Pluto). She also shared that she had almost committed suicide (Pluto) by putting a gun in her mouth.
Bret Michaels also talked about how fortunate he was that he did not die (Pluto) and how he felt reborn now (Pluto) in wake of the experience. Both interviews were heavily laden with the Pluto death and rebirth themes.
There were also strong undercurrents of yesterday’s nebulous Sun square Neptune influence on the program, especially Chely’s disclosure that she had been living a lie (Neptune rules deception). Neptune also depicts the more fragile or tenuous nature of the physical life form and often demonstrates to us, through its activation in our lives, how sometimes our ability to hold onto the physical body is as precarious as holding onto a single thread.
Neptune, known as the Great Dissolver, symbolizes the dissolving of physical boundaries in its quest to transition us into the spirit world. Neptune denotes our spiritual component or link to the Divine. Both Chely Wright and Bret Michaels spoke to Oprah about praying to God (Neptune) to save them in their moments of despair.
We also saw another variation of the Sun-Neptune energy playing out before the collective yesterday. A U.S. jury decided that drug-maker Novartis must pay $250 million in damages to more than 5,000 current and former employees. The jury award came two days after the finding that the U.S. division of the company discriminated against women over pay, promotion and pregnancy.
Neptune rules drugs and pharmaceutical companies. Aquarius, the sign Neptune is currently in, also rules equality issues and epitomizes the needs and rights of the individual within the collective. Often when Aquarius is emphasized there is progress regarding individual rights. The Sun in the money-sign of Taurus also spelled bad news for the drug-maker, in terms of its’ financial liability.
Yesterday’s Venus square Uranus influence also entered into the equation here since we were dealing with a gender bias issue. Venus also denotes females and Uranus, as ruler of Aquarius, is now in the sign of Neptune-ruled Pisces (drugs).
Too, the discrimination ruling against the company two days ago came with the mutable T-Square in full force involving Saturn, Venus, Uranus and Jupiter. Saturn is in Virgo, ruling employment matters. Jupiter and Uranus are in Pisces, the Neptune ruled sign associated with drugs. Venus (females) was squaring off against the Virgo and Pisces energies, forcing this gender-related issue.
I thought it was very symbolic, too, to have Uranus, the liberator, at the very end of Pisces, representing the full fruition of all the sign stands for. Pisces not only rules drugs, it also depicts segments of society that are downtrodden and discriminated against.

“He is not a lover who does not love forever.” Euripides.
The warm blend of feminine (Venus) and masculine (Mars) energies continues today, courtesy of the Universe, and surely a welcome reprieve from the other, ongoing, heavier cosmic vibrations.
Venus shows us what we value and appreciate and what we seek to attract to us in our lives. Venus also signifies our need for comforting connections or relationships.
Mars, the energy planet, is the keeper of our intimate sexual desires and speaks valiantly to us about our most heated passions.
The seductive sextile alignment of these two forces prompts us to want to assertively seek out those more amorous experiences that invigorate every layer of our physical being.
The fantasy-prone Pisces Moon sets the perfect backdrop for all this drama to unfold.

Celebrity News: Did you happen to see Oprah Winfrey’s TV show yesterday, a special celebration of ten years of her magazine that was broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall in New York city?
On the show, Dr. Phil McGraw shaved off his trademark moustache that he has been sporting for some 40 years. He said he did it because he has always been telling people that they have to be willing to change something and that he wanted to walk his talk, so he changed his appearance.
I’m personally not sure if I like him better clean-shaven or not. What about you?
Of course, being an astrologer, I had to check out Dr. Phil’s horoscope (born 9/1/50) to see if there existed any type of cosmic corollary to match the physical denudement. The results were rather fascinating.
For the last few days, Dr. Phil, an analytical Virgo (perfect sign for a psychologist), has had the transiting Mars in theatrical Leo exactly square to his natal Mars in transforming Scorpio. Mars is the planet of action, and normally when we have Mars aspects, especially to our birth chart Mars, we are more predisposed to act out and often in bold ways. We do things on impulse that we may not normally do, especially with the square aspect, which is more of a challenging influence.
With his natal Mars in the fixed sign of Scorpio, Dr. Phil is normally inclined to execute new moves in his life only after a good measure of careful strategy and planning. The Mars meet-up this week with his natal Mars may have provided him with a sudden impetus to want to change or transform himself (Scorpio) and also gave him the guts and courage to do so.
We have to figure though, too, that with his shrewd Scorpio Mars, that he also calculated in advance that shaving off his moustache would get both him and Oprah a lot of publicity and consequently be good entertainment (Mars in Leo) and positive for the TV ratings. Mars in Scorpio always covers all its bases. (Oprah also has Mars in Scorpio.)
Venus rules physical appearance and beauty. Yesterday when Dr. Phil had the moustache removed transiting Venus was exactly harmoniously trine his natal Neptune in Libra. Transiting Mars was also favorably sextiling his Neptune, so he had a double whammy of Neptunian energy going on. Neptune also is the ruler of his Pisces Ascendant which additionally governs outward appearance.
Neptune, as the higher octave of Venus, presides over visual images and illusion. It rules all forms of theater and manner of disguise (a moustache could be perceived as a disguise). Neptune also rules TV cameras.
So, with the Venus and Mars energy prodding Neptune along, we saw the public unveiling (Libra) before the Neptunian television camera of a new Dr. Phil, a new clean-shaven Venusian form (Mars rules shaving). Gone was the facial costume. Neptune whimsically lifting the curtain of illusion, so we could all peer in.
