COSMIC WEATHER:

“The problem with communication is the illusion that it occurred.” George Bernard Shaw

Isn’t that a wonderful quote? We think that we’re communicating, but in reality, we’re not. It’s all but a fantasy. A mirage. A product of our delusional, vulnerable minds. No one’s really listening to us. Or, vice versa. Not even our own mothers. πŸ™‚

However, there is some hope that all this may begin to change today, that communications may start garnering some measure of respectability again, and that we can begin moving forward with our brilliant ideas, as messenger Mercury is finally stationing direct in “mildly manic” Aries (6:04 am EDT) after roughly a three-week retrograde cycle.

Generally, whenever Mercury stations direct, information that was earlier withheld or filtered from us, begins to appear. However, we are still well-advised to proceed cautiously now, and wait a few days before really acting on this newly-acquired knowledge. Too, what we should do now is use the next few days to seriously reflect upon all this new information that is coming our way. (Mercury will also not officially be out of its’ “shadow period,” back to the degree that it originally went retrograde at, until May 11th.)

Of course, nothing in life is ever simple. There are always unnerving complications. Today, is no exception. Mercury is stationing direct at 12 degrees of Aries exactly in opposition to delaying, restrictive Saturn at 12 degrees of partnership Libra. With Mercury-Saturn, we can experience communication blockages (just what we all wanted to hear, right?). We may also feel more serious and sensitive, and may even want to withdraw from others, in order to be by our lovable, lonesome selves. However, since Mercury-Saturn is great energy for focused concentration, this may not be such a bad idea to temporarily go into seclusion, especially if we have some important tasks to do that could use our undivided attention.

Too, the Moon is in “work till you drop” Capricorn, Saturn’s home turf, and she’s not really a happy camper there, forming squares to Saturn, Mercury Mars, and Jupiter. In the end, we likely “progress” today by being productive and responsible (Saturn). With that said, love goddess Venus is still in a conjunction with wild Uranus in spontaneous Aries, so things could also conceivably get a little interesting in the romance department, given the opportunity. Venus-Uranus helps to shatter our inhibitions.

COSMIC WEATHER:

“All charming people, I fancy, are spoiled. It is the secret of their attraction.” Oscar Wilde

The late Elizabeth Taylor and the late Johnny Cash (born just a day apart) both had their Venus (ruling love, beauty, creativity, and power of attraction) exactly conjunct high-voltage Uranus (urge for individuality) in self-expressive Aries. The Venus-Uranus conjunction is often the hallmark of charismatic individuals with unique talents and gifts (and often striking appearances). We have this very same aspect today in Aries for the first time in over 75 years (10:29 pm EDT).

This Venus-Uranus influence can also make us crave more emotional excitement in our relationships and also in our pleasurable pursuits (ruled by Venus). Too, we are possibly more inclined to forge ties (Venus) with more non-conforming (Uranus) types, or to people we normally would not be attracted to. Venus-Uranus is also known for having sympathy for those who are perceived as “underdogs,” and this aspect often figures in prominently with the emergence of “gay rights” issues in the news.

Additionally, Venus-Uranus has a legacy of spawning “sudden infatuations” and instant “electrifying” relationships. Interestingly, John Lennon and Paul McCartney also met on a day when Venus was conjunct Uranus in entertainment Leo. Of course, we all know what transpired from that union. So, today could be filled with a lot of exciting possibilities for us, if we mingle. Too, this is a fantastic aspect for any creative endeavors.

Meanwhile, the Moon enters ambitious Capricorn (6:26 am EDT) today, kindling our desire to get ahead on the career front. The Moon’s square to rebel Uranus (10:34 am EDT), however, could create some fallout for us, if we try to rock the boat too much. Also, if we are too greedy for power, we could encounter some opposition when the Moon conjuncts controlling Pluto (7:52 pm EDT). At the same time, however, this aspect could be a potent time for networking, as Pluto can denote important “movers and shakers.”

Too, with the Venus-Uranus influence exact today, we may want to consider “altering our appearance,” such as maybe trying out a new hairstyle, or adding more pizzaz to our wardrobe (perhaps something ‘electric blue’ for Uranus).

Famous Birthdays April 22: Jack Nicholson (74), Glen Campbell (75).

Happy Earth Day! Enjoy your weekend!

COSMIC WEATHER

“Love is an irresistible desire to be irresistibly desired.” Robert Frost

Love Maven Venus races into “conquest-oriented” Aries today (12:07 am EDT), meaning we can forget about doing the laundry for the next six weeks or so (Venus stays in Aries until May 15th). Or the vacuuming. Instead our focus will likely be on trying to romantically “wow” others with what we perceive to be our highly “irresistible” appeal.Β  Needless to say, with Venus in Aries we can be a little “too full” of ourselves. Aries is, after all, the sign of “self.”

With the sign Aries ruled by aggressive Mars, Venus in Aries normally doesn’t hold back from pursuing any of her heart’s desires. Too, tomorrow she meets up with wild, wacky Uranus. All predictions are off with that aspect – anything could happen then!

Meanwhile, the Moon is also in irrepressible Sagittarius, another fire sign. OMG! The number of wild oats that could be sown today just boggles the mind! πŸ™‚

Have a fun day!

Astrology April 19, 2011: “The Mind on Steroids” Mercury Conjunct Mars in Aries

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Be master of mind rather than mastered by mind.” Zen Proverb

It could be that the more focused, intense, investigative Scorpio Moon acts as a desirable filter for us today in that it may help to anchor our emotional nature and responses, and have us wistfully probing and examining our innermost feelings instead of impulsively acting on them.

Perhaps a much needed antidote to the highly-charged Retrograde Mercury-Mars conjunction in fiery, athletic Aries which is also at play today and somewhat akin to our minds being on steroids! πŸ™‚

Energizing Mars (ruling the aggressive urge) turns the volume up full blast on our ideas and thinking (Mercury), and in restless Aries it is very possible today that we could be feeling a little more jittery or high-strung mentally (also more prone to losing our temper). We may feel very compelled to act (Mars) on our ideas (Mercury) before really thinking through the consequences of our actions (that is why the “pondering” Scorpio Moon could assist us here). Also helpful to us may be the critical, authoritative Saturn opposition to this Mercury-Mars conjunction, which also serves as a parental check to dutifully remind us that, in our haste to express ourselves, we better not forget to “dot the i’s” and “cross the t’s.”

However, if we do diligently monitor ourselves, especially our verbal exchanges with others, and if we do act with a mature level of restraint (no temper tantrums), today could be a great day for finding favorable resolution to old problems (and even for amazing breakthroughs and transforming discoveries with the Scorpio Moon), as with Mercury retrograde, we often revisit the past.

Another upside here: We can also be very persuasive and passionate as a speaker, as Mercury-Mars injects much enthusiasm and forcefulness into our communications. The perceptive Scorpio Moon can also help us in devising brilliant, compelling strategy to market and brand ourselves and our ideas. It may be an excellent time, too, for immersion in highly-detailed writing (Mercury) projects (or for research) or for reading about psychology and human behavior. Again, this is because the investigative, therapy-minded Scorpio Moon always likes to “get to the bottom of things” and figure things out, and Mars (ruling law enforcement) often has a penchant for playing pioneering detective, as co-ruler of Scorpio with Pluto.

Astrology April 18, 2011: “Going The Distance” Mars Opposite Saturn

COSMIC WEATHER:

β€œEndurance is one of the most difficult disciplines, but it is to the one who endures that the final victory comes.” Buddha

Enterprising Mars in initiating Aries forms an exact opposition to restrictive Saturn in relationship Libra (12:03 pm EDT). Our varied efforts to spearhead things (Mars) may encounter stiff resistance or opposition from others (Saturn). β€œMars-Saturn” energy is often portrayed as trying to drive a car (Mars) with the brakes on (Saturn). Often with this aspect we come to an awareness of our limitations or weaknesses, and accordingly, we often end up having to patiently revise our strategies, or run the risk of defeat if we don’t.

With Mars-Saturn, we often need to work harder, or at least smarter, and most likely in a very disciplined and controlled manner (Saturn). Too, if we do, and are able to endure and withstand any trials or hurdles that are put in our path, we may be rewarded with a golden victory.

The very last time that we had this identical aspect, Mars in Aries opposite Saturn in Libra, was back in late March of 1981. Interestingly, on March 29, 1981, the β€œLondon Marathon” debuted with 7500 runners. Of course, most of us have all heard about how hard marathon runners have to train. This arduous training process is a perfect template for understanding the workings of this β€œMars-Saturn” type energy. It’s not an aspect for wimps or quitters. Or for those hoping to coast by on their coattails. Β Mars-Saturn characteristically demands our best efforts.

The β€œLondon Marathon” is now reportedly one of the biggest running events in the world and is one of the five top world marathons that make up the World Marathon Majors. Too, this Mars-Saturn aspect is indelibly stamped in the horoscope of this annual event. (Birthchart horoscopes can be done for events, not just people.) Also, the day the London Marathon debuted, the empowering Sun was exactly conjunct energy planet Mars in Aries (Aries rules sports) for extra punch.

Wanted to throw in here, too, that actor George Clooney was Β born with his Mars in entertainment Leo (0 degrees) exactly opposite his Saturn in ambitious Capricorn (his Saturn is at 30 degrees).Β  I also see George as a β€œmarathon man” in many ways, don’t you? Seemingly extremely driven, probably doesn’t back down till he gets what he wants (he’s also a plodding Taurus). Too, what woman would not want to gladly β€œgo the distance” with George, regardless of the hurdles? πŸ™‚

Besides the Mars-Saturn opposition today, we also have the Moon entering passionate Scorpio (2:20 am EDT) intensifying our emotions and desires. The Moon also makes a potent sextile to transforming Pluto in Capricorn (2:14 pm EDT), Scorpio’s ruler. A good time for instituting “makeover projects,” especially on the career front (Capricorn).

NEWS UPDATE:Β  Here I am blogging about the very first London Marathon and, would you believe, that on this very day, with the Mars-Saturn opposition once again exact, Kenya’s Geoffrey Mutai ran the fastest marathon ever, finishing the Boston Marathon in 2 hours, 3 minutes, 2 seconds!!! How cool is that? I love the synchronicity!!!

Astrology April 15, 2011: “Fuzzy Thinking” Mercury Semisquare Neptune

COSMIC WEATHER:

“About half my designs are controlled fantasy, fifteen percent are total madness and the rest are bread-and-butter designs.” Manolo Blahnik

Normally the Moon in “analytical” Virgo bodes well for our operating more logically and systematically. And, while hopefully, this will still be the case for us today, we do need to be aware that there is also now greater proclivity for some “fuzzy thinking” because not only is the Virgo Moon’s ruler, Mercury, still in retrograde phase, it is also stressfully aligned today (semisquare) with “let me blur the boundaries for you” Neptune in imaginative Pisces (the sign Neptune rules). Neptune is the planet of fantasy, so we will want to be “double-checking” our facts today. Too, if some of our ideas seem a little “weird” or “spacey” to us, it may be best not to act on them or give them voice in public (could garner some strange looks, or raised eyebrows, if we do.) πŸ™‚

Of course, with Neptune ruling “make-believe” and Mercury ruling the “news,” some of us today, too, may be disillusioned or disheartened (Neptune) about the entertainment news from ABC yesterday that the network will be axing “All My Children,” and “One Life To Live.” Kelly Ripa on “Live With Regis and Kelly” today recalled her days on AMC which launched her career.

BTW, when both of these soaps debuted on TV (‘One Life To Live’ on 7/15/68 and ‘All My Children’ on 1/5/70), “fantasy Neptune” was a big factor in each of the shows’ respective horoscopes. ‘One Life to Live‘ debuted with the Sun exactly favorably trine to Neptune in sexual Scorpio, while ‘All My Children” went on the air with Mercury exactly sextile Neptune in Scorpio (another positive, dreamy aspect). Of course, we always ideally want to have Neptune well-aspected in a “soap-opera” horoscope since we are dealing with the realm of “make-believe,” and when Neptune’s ray is stoked, we are more willing to be led by our imagination. Neptune also rules television.

Are you a fan of both or either of these shows? How do you feel about their pending departure? Bummed out? Feel a little like you have lost a family member? While I was personally a huge fan of the old “Dallas” evening “soap opera” show on CBS-TV, many moons ago, and was devastated when it went off the air (loved Larry Hagman as “JR”), I have never even watched one episode of ‘One Life To Live,’ or ‘All My Children.’ Always too busy working during the daytime. Of course, I know of Susan Lucci, the star of ‘All My Children.’ Too, Oprah Winfrey recently did a show on soap opera stars and Susan was on that show.

Astrology April 9, 2011: Purging Pluto Stations Retrograde in Capricorn!

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Sometimes you have to let everything go – purge yourself if you are unhappy with anything…whatever is bringing you down, get rid of it. Because you’ll find that when you’re free, your true creativity, your true self comes out.” Tina Turner

Well, we would probably be very wise to heed Tina Turner’s advice today and consider eliminating “what isn’t working for us” now, as “bulldozing” Pluto, associated with death and rebirth, stations retrograde in “structural” Capricorn, the sign of business, career, and government. Pluto will stay retrograde until mid-September.

Purge, reform, renew, recycle, makeover, transform, de-clutter. These are all Pluto keywords and, again, they are all descriptive of the types of activities that we may want to consciously engage in now in a bid to “liberate” our true self. (Also, we need to pay attention to the house that Pluto is retrograding in, in our personal horoscopes, for more of a frame of reference regarding where the purging or renewing may be taking place for us on an individual level.)

Too, often around the time that a planet stations retrograde, is when we really glean the “real gist” of the cycle on an internal level. We may also simultaneously see “telling” things happening in the collective that reinforce these Pluto themes home to us now.

Also, this time around we have energizer Mars in “new beginnings” Aries applying to a potent square to Pluto (this aspect will be exact on Monday). Mars square Pluto can denote a time of intense, sustained effort that can really reconfigure the playing field around us. It is a time when we can notably get ahead, if we seriously apply ourselves. Pluto is very concentrated, focused energy and with enterprising Mars beaming down on it, this ‘focus” is potentially magnified or strengthened.

On the shadow side, this very same Mars-Pluto aspect can sometimes backfire for us and have very negative or destructive consequences, if we are acting too much on the level of ego (bereft of conscience), and are too controlling or forceful (Pluto) with respect to pushing our agendas at all cost, even in the face of mighty resistance.

We probably need to be reminded again, too, that Pluto does rule “the underworld.” It can also indicate “extremism” and extremist groups or factions, including terrorist elements. As I am writing this blog this morning, a top news headline is about a police search for a 61-year-old homeless man who is allegedly wanted in connection with the bombing of a synagogue on Thursday in Santa Monica, California. Suffice it to say, Pluto also rules bombs and explosive devices.

Pluto also rules “turning points” and with Mars in sports-ruling Aries (again the Mars-Pluto square), we saw baseball player, Manny Ramirez, suddenly retire yesterday after allegedly and reportedly failing a drug test in spring training. (Pluto’s activated ray often brings about “transparency,” it shines a spotlight on activities that have previously been hidden.) We are also awaiting a verdict in the Barry Bonds‘ perjury trial now.

On a more positive note, a shutdown of the U.S. government was also averted late last night as Democrats and Republicans finally agreed to a budget deal. Pluto rules debt and red ink and is stationed in governmental Capricorn. All week, we have heard graphic reports, too, of what a “scaled-down” (Pluto) U.S. government would look like. Also, this week, House Republican, Paul Ryan, who chairs the House Budget Committee, unveiled his own budget blueprint for a massive downsizing of the U.S. government that would also reportedly abolish Medicare and “gut” (Pluto) Medicaid. (Extremist Pluto at work?)

Astrology April 7, 2011: Chatty Gemini Moon, Relationship Venus Quinqunx Saturn

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Bad human communication leaves us less room to grow.” Rowan D. Williams

The pace of life notably quickens today as the Moon vacates steady Taurus for restless Gemini (7:22 am EDT), the chatty sign of communication. A time when we are more apt to want to articulate our feelings (Moon) and to also want to make “small talk,” and to kid around. The Gemini Moon is normally a period when we heartily enjoy sharing our ready stash of “one-liners.”

(Here’s one: “The man bought his wife a water bed. She calls it the “‘Dead Sea!'”)

As soon as the Moon enters Gemini, she forms a tight square to psychedelic Neptune in dreamy Pisces (7:32 am EDT), so it could be that our early morning communications are a little “spacey,” or somewhat weird or distorted (more chance of some confusion). Although Moon-Neptune does turn the volume up really high on our creative imagination and pleasure-laden fantasies. Soon afterward we also have a chance to showcase our originality, even our genius, when Luna makes an opportunity sextile to liberating, inventive Uranus in adventurous Aries (10:19 am EDT).

Another lunar highlight of the day is the Moon’s buoyant sextile to energizer Mars in Aries (3:56 pm EDT), a time when we will want to be fully engaging both our minds (Gemini) and our bodies (Aries) in things we enjoy. The Moon-Mars link also incites our competitive instincts.

Additionally, we have relationship Venus in idealistic, caring Pisces forming an awkward 150-degree aspect (quinqunx) to hard-liner Saturn in Venus-ruled matrimonial Libra. It could be that we are feeling somewhat uncomfortable or victimized (Pisces) by the demands (Saturn) that others (Libra) are placing on us now. We may need to reach some kind of compromise to preserve the peace (Libra).

Interestingly enough, the “compromising” sign of Libra also rules the U.S. Congress and today things are down to the wire with respect to needing to reach some kind of agreement regarding the federal budget, otherwise ‘nonessential” services of the U.S. govt will be shutting down. Of course, too, Pluto (ruling debt) is getting ready to station retrograde in governmental Capricorn (exact early Saturday EDT), another force at play here. We are also being fed media reports on how a “scaled-down” (purging Pluto) U.S. government would operate. On the other hand, with Sun conjunct “feel good” Jupiter yesterday, the U.S. stock market reached a two-year high. Go figure.

Famous Birthdays April 7: David Frost (72), James Garner (83). This astrologer has had a major, life-long crush on James Garner. It started when I was a child and used to watch him in the hit TV series “Maverick.” Then, later, I watched him in the “Rockford Files.” I always wanted to meet a man like James, but never did. BTW, James Garner was born with the Sun exactly conjunct Jupiter in Aries, the same expansive aspect that we just had yesterday and that I also blogged about. Can’t believe it, James is 83! Hope it’s a good one, Jim. Love ya!

Astrology April 6, 2011: “A Time To Grow” Sun conjunct Jupiter in Aries

COSMIC WEATHER:

“If we’re growing, we’re always going to be out of our comfort zone.” John Maxwell

“Expansion” is the keyword for us today, as the powerhouse Sun annually conjoins Jupiter (10:41 am EDT), the largest planet in our solar system associated with”growth and opportunity.” With Sun-Jupiter, we tend to “think big.” We also are more inclined to look at the “bigger picture.” Psychologically, we don’t want to be confined or hemmed in any way now. We also tend to have more faith that things will “work out,” as long as we hold on to the dream.

Astrology refers to Jupiter as the “planet of luck” or “abundance.” It does, too, often seem to correlate with prosperity or an “easing” of circumstances. Traditionally, Jupiter has been described as having a more “protective” quality to it. Jupiter is also linked with faith, optimism (“can do spirit”), and our own sense of humor. Too, a case could be made that when we are more optimistic and positive (Jupiter), we often attract more positive things to us i.e. the “law of attraction.”

So, with Sun-Jupiter today, we should do things that help to broaden our scope of influence and make us feel that we are growing versus stagnating. It’s definitely a time to “get out of our comfort zone” (referring to the John Maxwell quote above) and do something “grand.” (Jupiter). This Sun-Jupiter conjunction is also occurring in “initiating” Aries, the adventurous sign of “new beginnings.”

Fascinatingly, a quick peak back into history also shows that the very last time the Sun and Jupiter had their meetup in pioneering Aries, “Nunavut,” an Inuit homeland, was created from the eastern portion of the Northwest Territories to become Canada’s third territory (April 1, 1999). So, Canada literally “grew” in scope with Sun conjunct Jupiter. Isn’t that cool? Also back on that date, both the Sun and Jupiter were exactly trine to transforming Pluto in visionary Sagittarius (ruled by Jupiter), which was also a good time to symbolically “restructure” (Pluto) things.

The “shadow side” of Sun-Jupiter: We need to be careful that we are not too wasteful or extravagant with our resources. That we don’t “over-commit” or “over-promise.” We also need to guard against “over-indulgence.”

Some famous people born with Sun conjunct Jupiter: Mick Jagger, Woody Allen, Garth Brooks, and Anais Nin.

Astrology April 3, 2011: New Moon in Aries, Mars Conjunct Uranus in Aries

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Identity is destiny.” Stephen Covey

We have a New Moon at 14 degrees of Aries today (10:33 am EDT). Aries, by the way, symbolically represents our “self-identity,” in reference to the Stephen Covey quote above. New Moons also signify “new beginnings,” and this one occurring here, in the first sign of the zodiac, is the equivalent of having a “double whammy,” as Aries denotes “new starts.”

Too, we just had “energizer” Mars, the ruler of Aries, re-enter its own sign yesterday, joining the Sun, Mercury, Jupiter and Uranus. Mars is also conjunct “liberating” Uranus today (4:52 pm EDT) in Aries, something that has not happened since May of 1932. Mars-Uranus is an electrifying, powerhouse of an aspect. It can be explosive, but it can also inspire genius and innovation.

Uranus also rules radio broadcasting and the last time these two planets paired up in adventurous Aries is exactly when late comedian Jack Benny‘s “radio program” debuted on the air (May 2, 1932). Benny was also an Aquarian (a sign ruled by Uranus). Jack Benny, with his comedic genius (Uranus) ended up being a pioneer (Aries) in the entertainment industry. He liberated many of usΒ  from our sordid daily routines by making us laugh. His more rebellious, wacky brand of humor was highly original and had “Uranus” stamped all over it.

Also, a synchronistic, personal tie-in here to today’s Aries New Moon and also the Mars conjunct Uranus aspect: A few minutes ago, while I was still lying in bed listening to soft jazz on the radio, a song suddenly came over the radio with the powerful lyric, “As long as you are breathing, you can start all over again.” I had never heard this song before (don’t even know if that is the title of the song), but as soon as I heard it, I knew that I had just experienced, in an uncomplicated way, the basic essence of the New Moon in Aries: As long as we are alive, we all have the option of beginning anew!Β  Yes, this is true! Too, this came over the Uranus-ruled radio! So very cool.

Mars-Uranus is also an aspect which triumphantly proclaims and celebrates our uniqueness and individuality, strong support for the “identity-seeking” Aries New Moon. So, let’s start (Aries) something spectacular and grand today with our lives. Make the mighty contribution that only we alone can make. The New Moon’s opposition to “form-builder” Saturn also ensures that, if we are “serious” (Saturn) about creating new beginnings, we can do it!

“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” C.S. Lewis
