Astrology April 21, 2011: “We’re Irresistible” Venus Enters Aries!

COSMIC WEATHER

“Love is an irresistible desire to be irresistibly desired.” Robert Frost

Love Maven Venus races into “conquest-oriented” Aries today (12:07 am EDT), meaning we can forget about doing the laundry for the next six weeks or so (Venus stays in Aries until May 15th). Or the vacuuming. Instead our focus will likely be on trying to romantically “wow” others with what we perceive to be our highly “irresistible” appeal.  Needless to say, with Venus in Aries we can be a little “too full” of ourselves. Aries is, after all, the sign of “self.”

With the sign Aries ruled by aggressive Mars, Venus in Aries normally doesn’t hold back from pursuing any of her heart’s desires. Too, tomorrow she meets up with wild, wacky Uranus. All predictions are off with that aspect – anything could happen then!

Meanwhile, the Moon is also in irrepressible Sagittarius, another fire sign. OMG! The number of wild oats that could be sown today just boggles the mind! 🙂

Have a fun day!

Astrology April 20, 2011: Sun Enters Taurus, Sun Sextiles Neptune

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Each of us seems to have a main focus, a particular idea of practicality – a concept of ‘what we want out of life’ against which we judge our experiences.” Jane Roberts

The illuminating Sun, denoting our spirit, enters earthy Taurus today (6:18 am EDT), the sign of money and possessions (where it will stay for the next month).  The Sun in Taurus imbues us with a more practical focus and greater desire for stability.

The anchoring Taurus Sun also forms an interesting sextile to dreamy Neptune in oceanic Pisces. So, it could be that we are able to manifest (Taurus) some of our dreams (Neptune) today. Too, even though the Sun is now in tangible, down-to-earth Taurus, the Sun’s soothing linkup with spiritual guru Neptune helps to provide a certain mystical or reflective quality to this day.

The Moon’s entrance into visionary Sagittarius (2:51 am EDT) also serves to sort of reiterate this “transcendent” theme. Sagittarius the Archer encourages us to “reach for the stars” and broaden our horizons through travel, philosophy, higher education, religion. Lest we forget, too, we still have four planets in fiery, adventurous Aries with Love Goddess Venus also moving into that sign tomorrow.

In the News: Perhaps fittingly, with the Sun’s sextile to Neptune bringing “sea-worthy” things to mind, we are also poignantly marking the one-year anniversary of the BP oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history.

A year ago today, taskmaster Saturn at 29 degrees of Virgo (Virgo oversees the management of resources) was in a tight opposition to unpredictable Uranus at 28 degrees of Pisces (Pisces rules both the sea and oil). This opposition aspect can often be a more “disruptive” influence, especially when we do not “play by the rules (Uranus).” Saturn was also forming a challenging quinqunx aspect to confusing Neptune (the ruler of Pisces) at 28 degrees of Aquarius.

Saturn is often billed as the “Lord of Karma.” It is the planet of accountability and responsibility (it also symbolically represents the Earth). When we have more difficult Saturn influences we often experience the more challenging consequences of our actions (reaping our karma, in other words). Here in the case of the oil spill, BP has also reportedly acknowledged that serious errors were made leading up to the disaster (the ‘tried and true” Saturn protocol was not maintained).

Famous Birthdays April 20th: Ryan O’Neal (70), Jessica Lange (62). Also, my late dog, Coco (depicted below), would have been 15 years old today, so it’s kind of a sad day for me. Coco died two years ago. The latter portion of her life, she was blind, deaf and diabetic, but she never seemed to let any of that get her down. She was a real trooper (had an Aries Moon.) She was perhaps the gentlest animal I ever had. I miss her every day. Love you, Coco Puff! Your mama’s thinking about you.

Astrology April 19, 2011: “The Mind on Steroids” Mercury Conjunct Mars in Aries

Tags

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Be master of mind rather than mastered by mind.” Zen Proverb

It could be that the more focused, intense, investigative Scorpio Moon acts as a desirable filter for us today in that it may help to anchor our emotional nature and responses, and have us wistfully probing and examining our innermost feelings instead of impulsively acting on them.

Perhaps a much needed antidote to the highly-charged Retrograde Mercury-Mars conjunction in fiery, athletic Aries which is also at play today and somewhat akin to our minds being on steroids! 🙂

Energizing Mars (ruling the aggressive urge) turns the volume up full blast on our ideas and thinking (Mercury), and in restless Aries it is very possible today that we could be feeling a little more jittery or high-strung mentally (also more prone to losing our temper). We may feel very compelled to act (Mars) on our ideas (Mercury) before really thinking through the consequences of our actions (that is why the “pondering” Scorpio Moon could assist us here). Also helpful to us may be the critical, authoritative Saturn opposition to this Mercury-Mars conjunction, which also serves as a parental check to dutifully remind us that, in our haste to express ourselves, we better not forget to “dot the i’s” and “cross the t’s.”

However, if we do diligently monitor ourselves, especially our verbal exchanges with others, and if we do act with a mature level of restraint (no temper tantrums), today could be a great day for finding favorable resolution to old problems (and even for amazing breakthroughs and transforming discoveries with the Scorpio Moon), as with Mercury retrograde, we often revisit the past.

Another upside here: We can also be very persuasive and passionate as a speaker, as Mercury-Mars injects much enthusiasm and forcefulness into our communications. The perceptive Scorpio Moon can also help us in devising brilliant, compelling strategy to market and brand ourselves and our ideas. It may be an excellent time, too, for immersion in highly-detailed writing (Mercury) projects (or for research) or for reading about psychology and human behavior. Again, this is because the investigative, therapy-minded Scorpio Moon always likes to “get to the bottom of things” and figure things out, and Mars (ruling law enforcement) often has a penchant for playing pioneering detective, as co-ruler of Scorpio with Pluto.

Astrology April 18, 2011: “Going The Distance” Mars Opposite Saturn

Tags

, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Endurance is one of the most difficult disciplines, but it is to the one who endures that the final victory comes.” Buddha

Enterprising Mars in initiating Aries forms an exact opposition to restrictive Saturn in relationship Libra (12:03 pm EDT). Our varied efforts to spearhead things (Mars) may encounter stiff resistance or opposition from others (Saturn). “Mars-Saturn” energy is often portrayed as trying to drive a car (Mars) with the brakes on (Saturn). Often with this aspect we come to an awareness of our limitations or weaknesses, and accordingly, we often end up having to patiently revise our strategies, or run the risk of defeat if we don’t.

With Mars-Saturn, we often need to work harder, or at least smarter, and most likely in a very disciplined and controlled manner (Saturn). Too, if we do, and are able to endure and withstand any trials or hurdles that are put in our path, we may be rewarded with a golden victory.

The very last time that we had this identical aspect, Mars in Aries opposite Saturn in Libra, was back in late March of 1981. Interestingly, on March 29, 1981, the “London Marathon” debuted with 7500 runners. Of course, most of us have all heard about how hard marathon runners have to train. This arduous training process is a perfect template for understanding the workings of this “Mars-Saturn” type energy. It’s not an aspect for wimps or quitters. Or for those hoping to coast by on their coattails.  Mars-Saturn characteristically demands our best efforts.

The “London Marathon” is now reportedly one of the biggest running events in the world and is one of the five top world marathons that make up the World Marathon Majors. Too, this Mars-Saturn aspect is indelibly stamped in the horoscope of this annual event. (Birthchart horoscopes can be done for events, not just people.) Also, the day the London Marathon debuted, the empowering Sun was exactly conjunct energy planet Mars in Aries (Aries rules sports) for extra punch.

Wanted to throw in here, too, that actor George Clooney was  born with his Mars in entertainment Leo (0 degrees) exactly opposite his Saturn in ambitious Capricorn (his Saturn is at 30 degrees).  I also see George as a “marathon man” in many ways, don’t you? Seemingly extremely driven, probably doesn’t back down till he gets what he wants (he’s also a plodding Taurus). Too, what woman would not want to gladly “go the distance” with George, regardless of the hurdles? 🙂

Besides the Mars-Saturn opposition today, we also have the Moon entering passionate Scorpio (2:20 am EDT) intensifying our emotions and desires. The Moon also makes a potent sextile to transforming Pluto in Capricorn (2:14 pm EDT), Scorpio’s ruler. A good time for instituting “makeover projects,” especially on the career front (Capricorn).

NEWS UPDATE:  Here I am blogging about the very first London Marathon and, would you believe, that on this very day, with the Mars-Saturn opposition once again exact, Kenya’s Geoffrey Mutai ran the fastest marathon ever, finishing the Boston Marathon in 2 hours, 3 minutes, 2 seconds!!! How cool is that? I love the synchronicity!!!

Astrology April 17, 2011: Full Moon in Relationship Libra

Tags

, , , , ,

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Few delights can equal the presence of one whom we trust utterly.” George MacDonald

The Full Moon in Libra today at 27 degrees (10:45 pm EDT) puts a focus on our relationships. The Full Moon opposes the Sun in self-discoveryAries. When we have opposing energies, we are always needing to find a balance between the two forces. Here we are trying to balance our needs for cultivating our own healthy self-development while at the same time kindling or maintaining fulfilling relationships with others – something that many of us characteristically find rather hard to do. Full Moons also help us glean “full awareness” of situations in our life, by shedding more light on them.

Too, with the Sun, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Uranus all presently positioned in Aries, we have a plethora of energy now for “self-focus.”  Also, as a result of this “Aries” thrust, many of us are learning new things about ourselves – and as we acquire this new self-knowledge – there can be a corresponding impact on our external relationships; often as we change and grow, so does everything else around us.

Karma Lord Saturn is also presently in the sign of Libra to teach us more wisdom on how to get along with others. Often with Saturn, too, we acquire this wisdom through the school of hard knocks. In other words, learning from our struggles and setbacks;  our breakups and heartaches.

Too, perhaps simply keeping in mind some of the “Libra keywords” now – such as diplomacy, cooperation, consideration, fairness, and politeness – and incorporating them as actions into our daily lives, may go a long way towards creating the “selfversus others” balance that we are all striving for. Also, isn’t it true, that when we help others achieve what they want, it often helps us to get what we want? Something we may also want to take note of today – particularly with the energetic lineup in “self-serving” Aries – which is perennially searching for what’s in it for me?

The only aspect that the Full Moon in Libra is making is a quincunx (or adjustment) aspect to Venus, the planet of love and beauty. Venus is also the natural ruler of Libra. Venus is in surrendering and caring Pisces now – the sign representing our ‘link to the Divine’ – where she longingly yearns for the removal of all boundaries in her quest to be engulfed completely by love; possibly yet another admonishment to us to somehow find a way to integrate our more egocentric, temporal nature with our more enduring, selfless, divine nature.

Astrology April 15, 2011: “Fuzzy Thinking” Mercury Semisquare Neptune

Tags

, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

COSMIC WEATHER:

“About half my designs are controlled fantasy, fifteen percent are total madness and the rest are bread-and-butter designs.” Manolo Blahnik

Normally the Moon in “analytical” Virgo bodes well for our operating more logically and systematically. And, while hopefully, this will still be the case for us today, we do need to be aware that there is also now greater proclivity for some “fuzzy thinking” because not only is the Virgo Moon’s ruler, Mercury, still in retrograde phase, it is also stressfully aligned today (semisquare) with “let me blur the boundaries for you” Neptune in imaginative Pisces (the sign Neptune rules). Neptune is the planet of fantasy, so we will want to be “double-checking” our facts today. Too, if some of our ideas seem a little “weird” or “spacey” to us, it may be best not to act on them or give them voice in public (could garner some strange looks, or raised eyebrows, if we do.) 🙂

Of course, with Neptune ruling “make-believe” and Mercury ruling the “news,” some of us today, too, may be disillusioned or disheartened (Neptune) about the entertainment news from ABC yesterday that the network will be axing “All My Children,” and “One Life To Live.” Kelly Ripa on “Live With Regis and Kelly” today recalled her days on AMC which launched her career.

BTW, when both of these soaps debuted on TV (‘One Life To Live’ on 7/15/68 and ‘All My Children’ on 1/5/70), “fantasy Neptune” was a big factor in each of the shows’ respective horoscopes. ‘One Life to Live‘ debuted with the Sun exactly favorably trine to Neptune in sexual Scorpio, while ‘All My Children” went on the air with Mercury exactly sextile Neptune in Scorpio (another positive, dreamy aspect). Of course, we always ideally want to have Neptune well-aspected in a “soap-opera” horoscope since we are dealing with the realm of “make-believe,” and when Neptune’s ray is stoked, we are more willing to be led by our imagination. Neptune also rules television.

Are you a fan of both or either of these shows? How do you feel about their pending departure? Bummed out? Feel a little like you have lost a family member? While I was personally a huge fan of the old “Dallas” evening “soap opera” show on CBS-TV, many moons ago, and was devastated when it went off the air (loved Larry Hagman as “JR”), I have never even watched one episode of ‘One Life To Live,’ or ‘All My Children.’ Always too busy working during the daytime. Of course, I know of Susan Lucci, the star of ‘All My Children.’ Too, Oprah Winfrey recently did a show on soap opera stars and Susan was on that show.

Astrology April 14, 2011: Moon Trine Pluto “Fixer-Upper” Energy

Tags

, , , , , ,

COSMIC WEATHER:

“If everybody contemplates the infinite instead of fixing the drains, many of us will die of cholera.” 0 John Rich

Nothing like a corrective, fastidious Virgo Moon for dutifully reminding us of the undeniable fact that the world around us is in a colossal state of disrepair and chaos and must somehow be brought under immediate control, starting with the stack of dirty dishes in the sink! 🙂

Of course, this painful Virgo drill is anathema to the impetuous Aries energy that is also maniacally impinging upon our tender consciousness now, imploring us to leave the dirty dishes for another day.

The tidy Virgo Moon will additionally be making a sweeping trine to repairing Pluto (2:57 pm). So, today, has “fixer-upper” written all over it.

On another level, Moon-Pluto is also good for locating “missing objects.”

Remember that cobra snake that got loose from the Bronx Zoo in NYC, a couple of weeks ago? It has since been named Mia. Anyway, Mia was found when the Moon was exactly sextile Pluto! Pluto rules snakes; it is also linked with detective work.

Astrology April 13, 2011: “The Sky’s The Limit” Six Planets in Fire Element

Tags

, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

COSMIC WEATHER:

“As long as you are going to be thinking anyway, think big.” Donald Trump

With the emotional Moon in glamorous, “larger than life” Leo today and five planets in enthusiastic, “originating” Aries, we have a total of six planets in the active fire element now, which is a lot of “inspiring” energy at our disposal.  Mental Mercury (retrograde), governing our thoughts and ideas, is also still in a two-degree conjunction with expansive Jupiter, which again encourages us to “think big.”

The  proud, creative Leo Moon is also making positive, dynamic aspects to both the Sun (spirit) and Jupiter (growth) in Aries. So this is definitely a day when we have cosmic clearance to go at things “full throttle.” (Of course, we may also need to do some “revising,” later, with Mercury still retrograde.)

BTW, billionaire Donald Trump, quoted above (b. 6/14/46), has a 29 degree, “authoritative, take-charge” Leo Rising or Ascendant (the Asc. is how others view us and it also governs physical appearance and Donald, of course, has the “big” Leo hair). Donald’s energizing Mars at 26 degrees Leo powerfully conjuncts his Rising. Mars in Leo on the Ascendant is a very strong “executive” placement. Mars, ruling the aggressive urge, is also the natural ruler of  Aries, so we see a real “Aries flavor” to Donald even though he does not have any planets in Aries. The “‘Martian” Aries-type energy, too, is very conquest-oriented and driven (again this is the kind of energy that we currently have beaming impacting us with the lineup in Aries).

The Leo rising also helps to endow Donald with great self-confidence and a deep sense of his own power (Leo i.e. “lion of the jungle”). Too, his chart reveals a tendency to be a big thinker, by nature, with “gargantuan” Jupiter conjunct his third house of the mind in intellectual Libra (also this placement makes him love beautiful things). This 3rd house placement of Jupiter is also similar is nature to the “Mercury conjunct Jupiter” aspect that we currently have today.

Donald’s Jupiter is also harmoniously trined to both his Sun and Uranus, which are conjunct in versatile Gemini in his career house, which makes him more entrepreneurial, promotion-minded (esp. in sales-oriented Gemini), as well as highly original, particularly with respect to his professional pursuits. The Sun-Uranus aspect can also give him a predilection to side with the underdog at times. He is also not afraid to defy convention (Uranus) in his quest to live authentically (Charlie Sheen also has Sun conjunct Uranus). Sun-Uranus may also incline him (and Charlie) to be more unpredictable at times. The last thing, too, that Sun-Uranus wants to be is “homogenized.” Additionally, Donald’s Moon is in visionary, Jupiter-ruled Sagittarius (like Oprah Winfrey).

Of course, the big question regarding Donald Trump now, is whether he is going to run for U.S. President? While astrology is not fortune-telling and it doesn’t predict the future, curiously, Jupiter, the planet of politics, will be in his 10th house of career in 2012. He also has reportedly said that he would decide the matter, this June, his birthday month, a time when pioneering Mars will be entering his career house (it enters it mid-June). Mars through the tenth house can be a highly ambitious time, and a time for “new professional starts.” The plot thickens!

Would you vote for Donald Trump for President? Yes? No? What about if he got a different-style haircut? Did away with that big Leo hair? Would that affect your decision any? 🙂 I personally like Donald because he is different and charismatic. His Mars is also exactly conjunct my 26 degree Moon in Leo, so emotionally he tends to energize me. My late husband’s Mars was, ironically, the same degree as Donald’s. But unfortunately for me he didn’t have Donald’s kind of money. (: Although, my husband did have me, so I guess he was “wealthy” in some respects. 🙂

Astrology April 12, 2011: “Taking Center-Stage” The Leo Moon

Tags

, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Broad paths are open to every endeavor, and a sympathetic recognition is assured to everyone who consecrates his art to the divine services of a conviction of consciousness.” Franz Liszt

It’s that time of the month again, with the Moon stationed in glamorous, “Hollywood Hills” Leo, when we must dutifully ascend the theater stairwell and take our rightful place, center-stage, beside leading man, George Clooney.  It’s, of course, a thankless job, but hey, somebody has to do it! 🙂

Yes, the Moon in “entertainment” Leo paves the way for us to be a “shining star” today in our own real-life dramas. The colorful Leo Moon is naturally upbeat and creative, authoritative, and self-confident, and generally imbues us with more of a desire to “make a big splash” and “receive recognition” for the things that we do.

Too, the Moon’s winning trine to energizer Mars in “pioneering” Aries (1:54 pm EDT) helps to fill us with loads of passion and daring. This aspect is also favorable for sports and exercise.

Later, the Moon’s sextile to “stabilizing” Saturn in partnership Libra may help to anchor our relationships (10:28 pm EDT), and can inspire us to make commitments (Saturn). Saturn governs the “urge for security.”

Famous Birthdays April 12: Herbie Hancock (71), David Letterman (64)

In The News: Japan’s nuclear safety agency raised the severity level of the crisis at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant today to a 7 – the highest level on an international scale, bringing the crisis on par with the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. Astrologically, we still have Mars involved in a tight square to Pluto (this influence was exact late yesterday). Pluto rules radiation and nuclear power. (Also, on the shadow side, Pluto can denote crisis situations and turning points.)

Mars, of course, tends to act as a catalyst for events, especially in an “initiating” sign like Aries which it rules. (The “square” aspect also tends to “force matters.”) Again, our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Japan. Such a tragedy.

Astrology April 11, 2011: Mars Square Pluto, Mercury Conjunct Jupiter

Tags

, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Life’s challenges are not suppose to paralyze you, they’re suppose to help you discover who you are.” Bernice Johnson Reagon

Mixed bag of nuts today. We have the potent “Mars square Pluto” aspect exact (4:36 pm EDT). This influence has been applying for the last several days. Mars, ruler of our self-assertion and drive, can passionately empower us to take on formidable challenges, when aligned with intense, controlling Pluto. Mars-Pluto is perennially linked with wanting to wield power and influence in the world. (Oprah Winfrey has this aspect in her personal horoscope.)

We need to make sure, however, that we don’t overtax ourselves or surpass our limits with this influence. Too, we would be very wise to avoid power struggles, shoving matches, taunting behavior, etc. On the shadow side, Mars-Pluto can awaken and unleash our “inner bully.”

Mars-Pluto can also be “very transforming” energy, with Pluto ruling regeneration. Again, as I mentioned the other day in my blog on Pluto stationing retrograde, this is an excellent time to “wipe the slate clean” and  to purge or eliminate what isn’t working in our lives.

Retrograde Mercury, ruler of our thoughts, is also back into an exact conjunction with “optimistic” Jupiter (11:59 pm EDT), ruler of philosophy and our higher beliefs and vision, academia, long-distance travel. On the plus side, the Mercury-Jupiter influence can make us more enthusiastic and upbeat, more high-minded in our thinking (a nice antidote for the Mars-Pluto “bully” mentality). Mercury-Jupiter is also an excellent time for writing.

The shadow side of this same aspect is we can become too boastful or arrogant (Jupiter). Too, with the Mars-Pluto aspect as a backdrop, this is probably not a good time to get into arguments over philosophical (Jupiter) differences, as they could very well escalate. Also, if we have any public presentations or speeches (Mercury) to make, we will want to make sure that we have “all the facts” straight ahead of time (Mercury-Jupiter tends to exaggerate), in case we later get “called on the carpet” (stickler Pluto). However, if we do diligently cover our bases, we could be very compelling and persuasive as a speaker (or writer) now, especially if we sprinkle in some of the famous “Jupiterian” humor.

BTW, do you think you have a good sense of humor? May want to check out the positioning of Jupiter in your chart and see how it’s linked up to the personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus or Mars; or the Ascendant; or 3rd or 9th houses) for further astrological insight and confirmation. We mentioned Oprah Winfrey earlier, she also has her Mercury (communication) trine Jupiter in her horoscope, so she has no problem seeing humor in things. Too, that endows her with natural ability to make people laugh. (Mercury-Jupiter is also the hallmark of a teacher or preacher.) Comedian David Letterman (who has a birthday tomorrow) also has his Mercury exactly trine his natal Jupiter. David is also a writer and that is excellent for that outlet. Funny man, and also writer, Woody Allen has his Sun conjunct Jupiter, a similar influence-type influence, as does actor James Garner.

“A sense of humor… is needed armor. Joy in one’s heart and some laughter on one’s lips is a sign that the person down deep has a pretty good grasp of life.” Hugh Sidey

In the News: With the potent “game-changing” Mars-Pluto aspect exact today one of the news headlines this morning is about President Obama’s press conference that is slated for this Wednesday. Obama will be unveiling his package of proposed spending cuts for the future, including proposed cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, and changes to Social Security, in a bid to tackle this nation’s deficit crisis (Pluto rules debt). Higher taxes (ruled by Pluto) are also reportedly going to be proposed for the wealthy (Wall Street Journal).
