(Moon in Capricorn sextile Uranus. Moon enters Aquarius.)

Ingenuity: 1) the quality of being cleverly inventive or resourceful; inventiveness 2) cleverness or skillfulness off conception or design

“The Ambitious Capricorn Moon’s sextile to Innovative Uranus bodes well for using our ingenuity to get ahead (11:32 am EST). Later, the Moon’s entrance into Uranus-ruled Aquarius (5:33 pm EST) also rewards more non-traditional approaches.”

Definition of Utility: 1) the state or quality of being useful; usefulness 2) designed chiefly for use or service rather than beauty, high quality, or the like

“The Capricorn Moon makes us focus more on the ‘serviceable’ aspects or the ‘utility’ of ideas and things, and less on appearance or ‘fluff,’ especially when aligned with ‘Conserving’ Saturn (8:58 am EST), Capricorn’s natural planetary ruler.”

Pluto Conjunct the North Node in Capricorn

Re-birthing Agent Pluto, denoting power and transition, is exactly conjunct the Growth Oriented North Node in Capricorn today. Capricorn is a sign associated with worldly ambition and achievement.

Symbolically, this is an excellent time for us to reflect upon and embrace our own power (Pluto). Also, to perhaps review how we have wielded our power in the past to attain the things that we desired. Are we satisfied with how we have used our power, to date? Or, do we maybe need to “retool” (Pluto) how we “leverage our power” in the future?

Too, we may want to use this time to give an accounting of some of our past actions to others. Pluto confers upon us “penetrating insight” into the past, and the sign that it rules, Scorpio, denotes joint resources, or how we characteristically share what we have (our power) with others. It could be that we gain closure now, for ourselves and others, by explaining why we have behaved certain ways in the past.

With the regenerative properties of Pluto well-established, too, this may also be an ideal time to “re-fashion” or “revitalize” our image, especially our public image and worldly reputation (Capricorn). We also may want to “tweak” or even “totally revamp” our higher goals for ourselves (Capricorn) in wake of emerging new awareness (Pluto) of our destiny (North Node).

Fascinatingly, Former President George W. Bush’s new memoir, “Decision Points” is being released today (Bush has the transiting expansive Jupiter at 23 degrees of Pisces now exactly conjunct his 9th house cusp of publishing and self-promotion.  Jupiter also rules books.). As President of the U.S., Bush held what is widely regarded as the “most powerful position in the world” and now, with Pluto (Power) exactly conjunct the North Node in Strategizing Capricorn, he is revealing to the rest of the world, through his memoir and in media interviews, what it was like for him when he was seated in the Oval Office. He is detailing and explaining why he chose to use his power (Pluto) the way that he did, what led him to make the decisions that he made.

As part of writing his memoir, he also seems to be wanting to “regenerate” or “revive” (Pluto) his personal image, and no doubt wanting to re-cast (Pluto) his presidency in a more “positive light” for the future (North Node), something that is, of course, typical for former presidents to want to do, once they have left that office.

With Pluto conjunct the North Node it behooves us to be thinking seriously about our legacy, or what we will be leaving behind when we are gone.  Legacy is something that falls under Pluto’s domain, and the North Node of the Moon symbolically speaks to us about “the karma” that we have specifically chosen to undertake in this lifetime.

On another level, we may also want to pay close attention to other “Pluto-type” (power, reform, legacy) stories in the news now, to see how this Pluto-North Node conjunction is playing out in the collective.  Often what appears to be happening “outside of us,” in the end, can also have special meaning and significance for our own personal lives. We can always learn from everything, and always draw parallels to our own situations, if we only take the time to “connect the dots.”

Yesterday, for instance, Oprah Winfrey did a show with members of Michael Jackson’s family and his children, and viewers of the show got to glimpse a side of Michael’s private life that perhaps had never been made public before, especially his personal relationship with his children. Pluto’s ray, when activated, can reveal to us what has previously been “kept secret.” Pluto, as ruler of the subconscious, naturally signifies what is “hidden or submerged.”

Again, if you saw the Oprah interview, you also witnessed part of the living legacy (Pluto) that Michael has left behind, especially his children. I was personally very touched and moved by how much his children really loved him, even worshiped him.

When Oprah asked Michael’s daughter, Paris, what she “missed the most” about her dad, she said, “everything.”  That was a very powerful moment, and also again, “very Pluto.” Pluto rules those emotional experiences that resonate with us “at the very core” of our being.

Too, we think about the amazing “musical legacy” that Michael left the world. But, at the end of the day, if Michael were alive today, he may very well say, after that Oprah interview, that the single thing that he was “proudest of,” was that “one word comment” made by Paris to Oprah, knowing that he was able to affect his daughter in such a positive way as a father.

Elsewhere, we are also hearing about the ongoing chaos ensuing from the eruption of Mount Merapi in Indonesia. Pluto fittingly rules volcanoes, with a volcanic eruption a graphic example of the “expulsion of contents” from deep within its core. (Pluto) Again, one parallel here for our individual lives is: We all “blow our stacks” too!

On Monday, Steven Hayes was sentenced to death by a jury in Connecticut for his role in a grisly triple killing during a home invasion, a high-profile news story from the past that also speaks to the “dark side” of Pluto. The “shadow side” of Pluto is associated with cold-blooded murder and torture, an absolute “abomination of power” that, to most of us, is in impossible to understand.

Elizabeth Smart is additionally recounting, in a courtroom today, her previous abduction and sexual molestation (Pluto’s “shadow side” rules “forced sex” and “enslavement”). Also, there is a story breaking about “69 child prostitutes” being rescued in the U.S. and “99 pimps” being arrested. The “unenlightened” side of Pluto, too, is associated with manipulation and exploitation.

Yet, in another late breaking news story today, there is word that about $40 million in holocaust (Pluto) reparations have been stolen in a massive scam (another manifestation of Pluto exploitation at its worst).

So, with Pluto-North Node now, we are collectively being made aware of things that we were previously “in the dark” about. Too, with Pluto, ruling “the underworld,” there can often be a very sinister and darker nature to the events that unfold around its energy. Of course, it should also be interjected here that, how we choose to “use our power,” (Pluto) is ultimately up to us.  We can use our power to “do good,” or we can use our power in a harmful, controlling way that hurts others, and eventually suffer the dire consequences.

Also, back to “image-building” a moment. President Obama seems to be doing some “edifying” of his own persona on the world stage now and also trying to put forward ideas that could be characterized as having “a new spin”  to them (Pluto).  He was in India yesterday, for example, and talked there about the relationship the U.S. has with India, and how he would like to “retool it” (Pluto) in such a way that Americans do not regard India as a place to which “jobs are outsourced,” but rather see it as a place where new jobs for Americans can be created.

COSMIC WEATHER:

The Emotional Moon continues in “Big Picture” Sagittarius, along with Pioneering Mars. Mental Mercury also joins the proselytizing pair there today, leaving guarded Scorpio (6:43 pm EST). With the Moon, Mars, and Mercury all installed in Sagittarius, we have an enthusiastic trio of, “Yes we can!” energy at our disposal.

Also, later on in the day, the Moon forms a square aspect to Optimistic Jupiter (9:04 pm EST), the ruler of Sagittarius, at which time we should pretty much be able to “walk on water.”

Sagittarius, the Archer, is a very futuristic, positive, and goal-oriented sign known for its broad vision.  The keywords for it are: “I inspire.”

One big drawback, though, to the “Eye on the distant horizon” Sagittarius energy is that it tends to “gloss over details.” And we all know that “The Devil” is ready to pounce on us, whenever we “screw up” or “get careless” with the details. So we need to make sure today that we also enlist the support of the Shrewd, Investigative Scorpio Sun before we “get in over our head.”

Activities highlighted today: Preaching, teaching, academic matters, writing, publishing, speaking, sales, cold-calling, social networking, traveling.

Quote for Today:

“If you only do what you know you can do – you never do very much.” Tom Krause

This Day in History:

On November 8, 1989, Douglas Wilder is elected the first black U.S. governor (Virginia).  Also, on that same date, David Dinkins is elected the first black mayor of New York city.

On that day, the Sun, Mercury, and Pluto are all exactly conjunct in “Transforming” Scorpio, the sign which Pluto rules. So we had like a “double-whammy” of major “renovating-type” energy.

Normally, when the Sun, which signifies power and leadership issues, conjoins “Controlling” Pluto, matters of dominance and control naturally come to the forefront. Intellectual Mercury’s inclusion here also suggests that our “mental consciousness” of the day was “more predisposed” towards embracing the idea of “a new order.” (Scorpio)

“Trailblazing” Mars was also at 2 degrees of Scorpio and exactly sextile to “Equality Ruling” Uranus, the electrifying “planet of change,”  at 2 degrees of Capricorn, the sign that “rules government.” “Energizer” Mars always tends to “fire us up,” and aligned with “Out of the Box” Uranus, we were much more likely to want to embark down “new” or “non-traditional” paths then, and also more interested in seeing that others also be granted “equal rights” or “equal input” (Uranus) in the hierarchy of government (Capricorn).

COSMIC WEATHER:

Moon enters “Faraway Lands” Sagittarius (3:28 am EST), imploring us to “forget about doing the laundry,” for a while.  We’re on a cosmically sanctioned mission now to escape the clutches of our dull, strangling, daily routines.  We must find a way to passionately do whatever “lifts us up” or “inspires us” today.

The “Forward-Thinking, Philosophical” Sagittarius Moon perennially kindles our desire for adventure, and for higher wisdom and learning. The Moon’s powerful conjunction with Pioneering Mars (4:43 pm EST) also serves to, temporarily, at least, put these desires in “overdrive.”

“Love Goddess” Venus also cascades back into “Cooperative, Gracious” Libra today (10:06 pm EST), a place where she is able to, once again, express the full reign of her many social graces, minus the emotionalism and possessiveness of Scorpio, where she has resided since early September. This Venus placement should help us to “patch up our difficulties” and make any “needed amends” with others. Libra is the sign of diplomacy. Venus will stay in Libra until November 30th.

Imaginative Neptune is also stationing “Direct today” in “Brotherly Love” Aquarius, encouraging us to move “full speed ahead” with our dreams and visions, a nice pairing with today’s uplifting Sagittarius Moon.  We may also want to pay closer attention to news involving matters that Neptune rules, including the sea and oil, drugs and pharma, and spiritual matters.

Activities highlighted today: Travel, writing, publishing, promotion, advertising, philosophy, religion, sports.

Quote for Today:

“Life is unchartered territory.  It reveals its story one moment at a time.” Leo F. Buscaglia

This Date in History:

On November 7, 1967, President Lyndon Baines Johnson signed a bill establishing the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Venus, indicating “what we love,” was in “Studious” Virgo and exactly conjoined with “Breakthrough Technology Guru” Uranus, the planet that rules broadcasting.

Also, “Communicator, News Reporter” Mercury was at 2 degrees of Investigative Scorpio exactly sextile to Opportunity Jupiter at 2 degrees of Analytical Virgo.  Jupiter expands upon and broadens whatever it is aligned with, and sextile to Mercury, it voluminously spreads the news and information.  Jupiter (which rules today’s Sagittarius Moon) also acts in such a way as to, hopefully, “inspire and elevate” the level of discussion.

People in the News:

Former President, George W. Bush, is in the news again, promoting his memoir, Decision Points. Fascinatingly, a quick peek at Bush’s horoscope shows” Expansive” Jupiter at 23 degrees of Pisces, exactly conjoined his 9th house cusp, the very sector of the chart that deals with book-writing and publishing! The ninth house also rules “self-promotion” and “advertising.” (The ninth house is naturally associated with the sign of Sagittarius, which is ruled by Jupiter.)

With “opportunity” Jupiter passing through his ninth house, it is an ideal period for Bush to be discussing and explaining his “philosophy of life” (a 9th house domain) and for providing “personal context” for his past actions and strategies.

COSMIC WEATHER:

New Moon in Re-birthing Scorpio. Focusing our attention on transformation, Ouija boards, and wrinkle-removing beauty products.

Mental Mercury is in an exact square to Delusional, Spaced Out Neptune.  The sky above us is suddenly a deep shade of purple. We also believe we possess a magical ability to levitate our toes way above the clouds.

Mercury in Transitioning Scorpio is also trine to Genius Uranus in Divinity Pisces. We are able to channel Einstein and Edison.  But still, the winning lottery numbers, manage to elude us.

(Also, with contract-ruling Mercury “in a fog” with Neptune, it may be best to postpone signing important contracts today, as pivotal information may be missing, or could possibly be misrepresented. Agreements could also be misconstrued.  Mercury-Neptune is associated with “deceit” and “fact-twisting,” as well general “mental confusion.”)

Activities Highlighted today: Rummage sales, purging and recycling, channeling spirits, pruning, weeding, painting, writing, acting, poetry, film-making, dancing, figuring out technology, intuition, deep skin massage, meditation.

COSMIC WEATHER:

The Emotional Moon enters “Re-birthing” Scorpio (2:16 am EDT), a place where she is gloriously “born again.” The Scorpio Moon is also readying herself for her monthly, renewing, “New Moon” phase, that will occur on Saturday (12:52 am EDT) at 13 degrees of the sign. New Moons signify “new beginnings,” so this one in “regenerating Scorpio” is suggestive of a “double dose” of rejuvenating energy.

Scorpio, the sign of life, death, and transition, symbolizes the elusive, subconscious region of our psyche, also referred to as the “sleeping mind.”

The Scorpio New Moon foreshadows a probing journey inside ourselves, to the very core of our being, that allows for us the chance to momentarily eye, and be altered by, that darker, mysterious chamber (the subconscious), that is normally sealed off to our conscious, waking self.

What inner treasures, within this “Sleeping Giant,” will the New Moon in Scorpio spy, and surreptitiously bring back with her, to the surface of our empowering consciousness, for us to stealthily pirate away? It could be that “only time will tell,” as “mum is the word,” always the word, for the Secretive Scorpio Moon.

What we want to do now is pay closer attention to the “unfolding events” in our lives, both internally and externally, over the next two weeks (from the New to Full Moon), and see how the changing landscape around us positively fits into our own quest for critical self-renewal.

Acitivities highlighted today: seances, channeling, psychic experiments, meditation, psychotherapy, treasure-hunting, antiquing, weeding, detox, spying and espionage, sharing secrets, scuba diving, plumbing, purging and recycling, reviewing insurance and estate matters, attending to joint financial matters.

Quote for the Day:

“If our subconscious was attractive, we wouldn’t have to bury it down deep within us.” Doug Coupland

This Date in History:

On November 5, 1935, Parker Brothers launches “Monopoly.” Venus, denoting activities “that we love,” was in analytical Virgo, a perfect sign for strategizing board games. Venus was exactly sextile to Transforming Pluto in “Real Estate Ruling” Cancer. Venus-Pluto can signify an all-encompassing, riveting passion.

Pioneering Mars was also in “All-Business” Capricorn and trine to “Risk-Taker” Uranus in “Acquisition-Minded” Taurus, fueling our materialistic desires to want to amass a “monopoly” of holdings. The Moon was also in “Fantasy-Loving” Pisces, kindling our preoccupation with “make believe” pastimes.

Since “Monopoly” was created, more than one billion people have played it, making it the most popular board game in history.

Happy 75th Birthday, Monopoly! And, many more.

The Orderly, Systematic Virgo Moon reminds us today that we can likely save ourselves headaches and hassles in the future by performing the necessary “due diligence” now.

Too, with the midterm elections being held in the U.S. today, it would behoove us to be knowledgable of the backgrounds of the candidates and how they stand on the issues, before going into the polling booth and casting our votes.

The placement of the Moon in Practical Virgo is always excellent for any kind of in-depth analysis and strategic planning, especially with powerful backup now from the Sun, Mercury, and Venus in investigative, resourceful Scorpio.

Scorpio symbolically rules “the elimination” or “purge process.” Today may be a very good time to purposely “weigh the facts” (Virgo) and then, as a result, prune away whatever is deadweight. (Scorpio)

The Moon’s opposition to Expansive Jupiter in Dreamy Pisces (5:24 pm EDT) also gives us some “creative license” to roam around a while in our imaginations.  Often we can get useful solutions to our everyday problems, too, by bending our “Virgo logic” a little, and going with more of our intuitive, “right brain.” (Pisces)

Later, the opposition to Upsetter Uranus (10:37 pm EDT) awakens us to the possibility of “sudden change.” Change can be daunting, for sure. The probability of change (Uranus), however, is something, too, that we must always take into consideration whenever we are plotting our long-term strategy. Change can be a good thing, as it can transport us out of our “comfort zones” where, if we linger too long, we tend to rot.

But change can also be a dangerous thing if we espouse change, just for the sake of change itself, without considering its many ramifications in our lives.  That is where the “wise, preparatory” Virgo Moon can help us out here today, if we but heed her course.

Today’s Quote for Today:

“Care and diligence bring luck.” Thomas Fuller

This Day in History:

On November 2, 1976, Jimmy Carter defeated Gerald Ford to capture the presidency of the United States. The Moon (governing the populace) was in Escapist, Idealistic Pisces. Energizing Mars was in Transforming Scorpio and in a tight square to Saturn in Leo. Mars square Saturn can signify trying to drive a car (Mars) with the brakes on (Saturn).  It can denote enormous discontent and frustration with the nature of things.  Saturn, too, can represent the incumbent, which in this case was Gerald Ford, and the challenging Mars square to Saturn can make it harder for incumbents to complete their agendas. The energy (Mars) is “at cross purposes” (square) to support the established regime (Saturn).

Mercury, governing the mind, was also in emotionally intense Scorpio and in a tight conjunction to Liberating Uranus. With Mercury-Uranus, we are definitely more ready and willing to entertain the idea of change (Carter), especially when taken into context with the frustrating Mars-Saturn in Leo influence, with Leo ruling leadership. With Saturn in Leo, too, there can be a “fallout” in leadership, as Saturn, under stress, often denotes loss and lack of support. Also, the country, at the time, was still recovering from the disillusioning malaise left from Nixon’s reign, and the economy was also problematic.

Today with the Moon in Work-Ruling Virgo, it would seem that “jobs” and the “lack of them” could be weighing heavy on voters’ minds today.  Perfectionist-seeking Virgo also tends to worry, and is more critical and unforgiving of any missteps, so the voters may be more inclined to view their politicians not only with a little more skepticism and cynicism today, but also with more of an eagerness to “hold them accountable” on their records. Energizer Mars is also in Sagittarius, the sign of politics, and that could make us “much more zealous,” if not combative, in expressing our political views.

Too, we are all still adjusting to a “new order of things,” with Pluto in the early degrees of Capricorn which rules government and hierarchy.  Pluto, as ruler of transforming Scorpio, tends to decimate or bulldoze conditions so new structures can be erected.

Pluto’s ray can also be extremist and fanatical in nature, so we can expect to see more “extreme measures” implemented in government with Pluto in Capricorn. Pluto, too, as part of the purge mindset, “cuts to the bone.” Many presently appear to be upset with what they see as a “bloated government,” and they want to pare it down (Pluto) considerably.

Pluto also rules debt, and with it now in Budget-Conscious Capricorn, debt-consciousness will likely be something that will be permeating the minds of the electorate for a good while to come. Pluto will be in Capricorn till 2025.

Interestingly, President Obama, who is not up for re-election today, has the transiting Warrior Mars in Sagittarius exactly in opposition to his Moon in Gemini now, an aspect which tends to “fire up our emotions,” as the Moon rules our emotional nature and also our nurturing ability.

Again, the Moon, too, represents the public and shows how we interface with it.  Volatile Mars here, signifying the aggressive urge, suggests that Obama may have a “real fight” (Mars) on his hands today when it comes to trying to placate the public (Moon). It could be, too, that he is forced to seriously reflect upon and rethink his own “nurturing or governing style,” (Moon) and also examine and assess how it is being perceived by others, in response to how his party fares in the midterm elections.
