“You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.” Kahlil Gibran

Cosmic Word Of The Day: Visitation

(Moon trine Mercury. Jupiter conjunct Uranus.)

Visitation: 1) the act of visiting 2) a visit for the purpose of making an official examination or inspection

Cosmic Weather:

“The stars are looking pretty bright for that annual visitation from Santa and his crew tonight! The Moon is in generous Leo and trine communicator Mercury in optimistic Sagittarius (8:45 pm EST).  Could be that Santa’s a little chattier than the usual.  Deviating from the typical, “Ho, ho, ho”  drill. Hopefully, though, he won’t veer off into politics or any other hotbed subjects, a natural allure when Mercury is in opinionated Sag.

We may also want to hang some “bigger” stockings by the chimney, as there’s a chance that Santa may be reaching deeper into his pockets this year.  The Leo Moon typically likes to splurge.

Too, we should probably set up Santa’s stage tonight in real regal fashion, in keeping with the Moon in Leo’s intrinsic desire for pomp and circumstance. How about if we put the hot chocolate in a very fine porcelain mug and the sugar cookies on a handsome silver tray? Also maybe put on a little Celine Dion divinely caroling in the background.

Let us also warm Santa’s heart by leaving him with a little something extra tonight. A special poem by George MacDonald (below). A tender prompting from the magical Jupiter and Uranus conjunction in giving Pisces, which suggests to us the “perfect gift” to give this Christmas. It also lets Santa know that we are aware of the deeper meaning of the season, and that it is truly more blessed to give than to receive.

Still, if there is any way, any way at all, that Santa can maybe pull it off, and put George Clooney under our holiday tree, we will be much obliged. Hope springs eternal, doesn’t it? 🙂 Especially this miraculous time of year, when fairy-tale wishes really can come true under the mistletoe.

GIFT FOR A FRIEND

If, instead of a gem

or even a flower,

we would cast the gift

of a lovely thought

Into the heart of a friend,

that would be giving

as angels give.

Merry Christmas, for those who celebrate. Peace and Love on earth.

“At no time is freedom of speech more precious than when a man hits his thumb with a hammer.” Marshall Lumsden

Cosmic Word Of The Day: Gigantic

(Mercury square Jupiter. Total Lunar Eclipse. Winter Solstice. Sun enters Capricorn.)

Gigantic: 1) Very large, huge 2) of, like, or befitting a giant

Cosmic Weather:

Gigantic day unfolding in the cosmos!  We have the total lunar eclipse in “talk till you drop” Gemini. Sun is “born again” in the “baptismal waters” of the winter solstice.  Also, the Sun enters “achievement-minded” Capricorn. Moon also enters “raid the refrigerator” Cancer (4:22 am EST).

We additionally get to whip out the “biggest words” we know for retro Mercury in Sagittarius’s repeat “meet-up match” with “let’s stretch it to the max” Jupiter. Mercury rules words and aligned with expander Jupiter, they can easily become pompous dinosaurs. Designed to embellish and impress.

“A baseball park is the one place where a man’s wife doesn’t mind his getting excited over somebody else’s curves.” Brendan Francis

Cosmic Word Of The Day: Curve

(Sun square Uranus. Venus sesquiquadrate Uranus.)

Curve: 1) a continuously bending line without angles  2) Baseball: a pitch delivered with a spin that causes the ball to veer from a normal straight path, away from the side from which it was thrown

Cosmic Weather:

Are you any good at catching curve balls? If so, you may have a decided advantage today, as the life-giving Sun in adventurous Sagittarius forms an exact square to high-voltage Uranus (1:48 pm EST), who is notorious for throwing us a curve ball or two to keep us alert, and on our toes.

Uranus symbolizes change, and is a master at ditching convention. Uranus encourages us to break out of our predictable molds. We likely progress now by simply going with the flow, and not staging heavy resistance to whatever changes may be coming down the pike.

Romantic Venus in intense Scorpio is also linked in a challenging aspect to Uranus. Venus-Uranus usually creates the desire for more personal freedom, as well as a need for more emotional excitement in relationships. Too, it can make us seek “unusual” connections with persons we normally would not be attracted to, and may not actually have much in common with.

Meanwhile, the Moon is in money-minded Taurus during the day, then switches to chatty Gemini (10:38 pm EST). Setting the stage for the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Gemini on Dec. 21st.

“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.” Victor Frankl

News Update 12/18: With the Sun in politically-minded Sagittarius exactly square change-agent Uranus, which rules equality issues, (and square expansive Jupiter), and sextile “let’s all peacefully co-exist” Neptune, in humanitarian Aquarius, the U.S.  Senate has gone ahead and voted today to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” by a vote of 65 to 31.The Senate has now sent the bill to President Obama, who had campaigned on ending the DADT policy, which banned gays from openly serving in the military. Some may say that the Senate through a “big curve ball” today. Definitely an historic day in America. (NYTimes.com)

“Inside each of us is a beautiful flower garden.  This is the garden of the soul. With each lesson we learn, the garden grows. As we learn together, our individual gardens form a tranquil paradise.” Sri Chinmoy

Cosmic Word Of The Day: Mystic

(Sun sextile Neptune)

Mystic: 1) involving or characterized by esoteric, otherworldly, or symbolic practices or content, as certain religious ceremonies and art; spiritually signficant; ethereal 2) of the nature of or pertaining to mysteries known only to the initiated: mystic rites

Cosmic Weather:

As the drama of the triple conjunction in Capricorn continues to wane, we are longing for a soothing escape into the transcendent ethereal realms, seeking safe haven in a mystical paradise, with the “illuminating” Sun sextile “meditative” Neptune, ruler of our imagination, blissfully pointing the way.

The calming Taurus Moon also helps to placate our emotions.

“Meditation brings wisdom; lack of meditation leaves ignorance. Know well what leads you forward and what holds you back, and choose the path that leads to wisdom.” Buddha

Sun-Neptune activities highlighted today: prayer and meditation, spiritual study, charitable works, volunteering, any creative work such as writing, songwriting, poetry, acting, theater, singing, dancing, painting, water therapy, massage, wine-tasting parties, masquerade balls.

“When in doubt, don’t!” Benjamin Franklin

Cosmic Word Of The Day: Doubt

(Moon opposite Saturn)

Doubt: 1) to be uncertain about; consider questionable or unlikely; hesitate to believe 2) to distrust

Yes, once again, it’s the exciting monthly Moon opposition to “hard-boiled” Saturn in judicial Libra (9:44 am EST), that so many of us perennially look forward to with a characteristic sense of doom and gloom.

The “gung-ho” Aries Moon is temporarily derailed today by “doubting Thomas” Saturn, who tries to effectively act as a wet blanket to some of our Aries Moon’s “ever manic” dreams.

Saturn: “Have you done any due diligence with respect to what you’re attempting?”

Aries Moon: “Nope.”

Saturn: “Do you have financial resources squirreled away to see you through for a while?”

Aries Moon: “Nope.”

Saturn: “Have you been drinking the Neptunian Kool-aid again?”

Aries Moon: “Yup.”

Saturn: “I rest my case.”

Aries Moon: “Golly, gee! Fiddlesticks!”

It’s okay, though. There will be sweet, joyful revenge tomorrow when the illuminating Sun in “reach for the stars” Sagittarius makes a tight square to “Santa Claus” Jupiter in “wishful thinking” Pisces.  A time when we have faith and inner assurance that all of our “pie in the sky dreams” will fly – and we don’t have to prove beans to Saturn. 🙂

“Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together.” Albert Einstein

Cosmic Word Of The Day: Impulsive

(Challenged Aries Moon)

Impulsive: 1) actuated or swayed by emotional or involuntary impulses 2) having the power or effect of impelling; characterized by impulsion

While the intensity of yesterday’s triple conjunction in Capricorn has abated some, there is still plenty of volatility to go around, especially with today’s fiery Moon in Aries, which tends to make us more impulsive or rash in our actions. In other words, we’re more prone to “jumping the gun.”

Too, the Moon forms challenging squares to Mercury (10:58 am EST), Pluto (11:43 am EST) and Mars (12:32 pm EST). The celebrated stars of Monday’s trifecta.

Also, with Pluto, symbolizing elimination, still activated, this is another excellent day for purging or recycling matters, including deleting such things as old computer files, or emails, to free up space.

“Let the first impulse pass, wait for the second.” Baltasar Gracian

“Stretching his hand up to reach the stars, too often man forgets the flowers at his feet.” Jeremy Bentham

Cosmic Word Of The Day: Stretch

(Mercury, Mars, Pluto triple conjunction)

Stretch: 1) to draw tight or taut 2) to lengthen, widen, distend, or enlarge by tension

“With retrograde Mercury (mind) conjunct energizing Mars and regenerating Pluto in achievement Capricorn, we are likely feeling the need to stretch or extend ourselves today.

It may be crucial for us to seek out personally transforming activities (Pluto) now, that help us to grow beyond our normal boundaries, or that help us to redefine ourselves (Pluto). There may also be a real need or desire to pioneer and blaze new trails (Mars). This may especially be the case on the career or professional front (Capricorn).

Our thoughts and ideas (Mercury) also have more of an intensity and focus to them now. We are more capable of strategic thinking and planning, and our capacity for understanding is also deeper (Pluto). We are, correspondingly, better able to figure out riddles, and solve problems and mysteries.

It could be, too, that we learn about new information that has major impact for our lives, or hear about things that have previously been hidden (Pluto). Pluto governs spying, espionage, and leaks. Pluto also represents what is buried or hidden inside of us at the deepest levels, the reservoir of previous experiences that we have submerged. What we have suppressed or pushed down inside of us may be rising to the surface now, as Pluto rules the process of elimination and with Mars, this elimination process is activated. We purge ourselves of what we no longer need, so that we have room for new growth and evolution. Pluto governs death and re-birth. Too, as part of this purging experience, we may feel more of a need to talk about or verbalize (Mercury) what has been buried inside ourselves (Pluto). It is an excellent time, for instance, for psychotherapy.

On the shadow side of this highly volatile line-up of energy, and this line-up is very high-wattage today, we can easily overreact and overdo, and physically and mentally exhaust ourselves in the process. It is also easier now for us to become embroiled in heated arguments and disputes (Mercury-Mars), particularly bitter, manipulative power struggles (Mars-Pluto). If we see that more of the negative manifestation of this energy is playing out around us today, we may need to disengage ourselves somehow, while simultaneously searching for more inclusive strategies for compromise, or cooperation with others. This triple conjunction energy can be very healing today, but only if we choose to tap into it in enlightened, non self-serving ways. That is the key

Meanwhile, the Moon’s continuing passage through emotional, retreating Pisces also heightens our sensitivity to the drama going on around us now and, at times, may put us at odds with our own desires to forge boldly ahead. The Moon’s conjunction with rebel Uranus (7:36 pm EST) also can magnify any personal feelings of inner tension or turmoil.

“The life of man is a struggle on earth. But without a cross, without a struggle, we get nowhere. The victory is ours if we combine our efforts courageously, even when at times they appear futile.” Boniface Wimmer

“Coming to terms with the fear of death is conducive to healing, positive personality transformation, and consciousness evolution.” Stanislav Grof

“Happiness: We rarely feel it. I would buy it, beg it, steal it. Pay in coins of dripping blood for this one transcendent good.” Amy Lowell

Cosmic Word Of The Day: Transcendent

(Moon conjunct Neptune. Moon in Pisces.)

Transcendent: 1) going beyond ordinary limits; surpassing; exceeding 2) superior or supreme 3) Theology (of the Deity) transcending the universe, time

“The non-conforming Aquarius Moon has her monthly meet-up with mystical Neptune (6:10 am EST), before descending into Neptune-ruled fantasy Pisces (1:41 pm EST).

We are seeking more of a transcendent experience today, wanting to be free from the hustle and bustle, particularly the ramped-up drama unfolding in the early degrees of accountable Capricorn with Mercury, Mars, Pluto, and the North Node all strategically holed up there.

It is empowering for us to steal some time away to “go within.” To visit that calming inner sanctuary, and bathe reflectively in its soothing waters, before continuing on our soul’s more complex journey in the days ahead.

By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third, by experience, which is the bitterest.” Confucius

“Those who lack the company of the holy, remain all alone. Their pain never departs, and they fall into the grip of the Messenger of Death.” Sri Guru Granth Sahib

Cosmic Word Of The Day: Gripping

(Mercury, Mars, Pluto, North Node conjoined in Capricorn. Venus sextile Pluto.)

Gripping: 1) the act of grasping; a seizing and holding fast 2) a grasp, hold, or control 3) mental or intellectual hold

“A convergence of  ‘gripping energy’ continues to unfold around us. We’re all sort of like sitting ducks for the next few days, held hostage to it. 🙂

One bright spot: There’s no need to spend any money on movie tickets to watch high action-packed dramas, when we have so much suspenseful adventure occurring around us now, on a daily basis, free of charge.

Fortunately, thanks to our knowledge of astrology, we can at least take some refuge in blaming most of the seemingly implosive events and turmoil that we are hearing about so much in the news now, on that dark little guy P-L-U-T-O,  who is sitting cozily on his dethroned throne, with rare, warm assist from clever Mercury, warrior Mars, and the “let me point you in the direction of your karma, kiddies” North Node. All these players are singularly holed up in the sign of governmental, big business Capricorn.

Pluto’s, no doubt, been waiting for this captivating, ‘dream team’ Capricorn line-up, for quite a while, considering he’s such a power-monger and control freak.  He’s no doubt loving the so-called ‘David and Goliath showdown’ playing out in the collective between WikiLeaks and governmental bodies, and now also big business (MasterCard, Visa, Paypal, Amazon, etc) is becoming roped into this scenario, with the arrival of gung-ho, soldier boy Mars into Capricorn. Capricorn really denotes authority figures and other high-profile types, in general. Basically, anyone who wields power over others, or at least, dreams of doing so. Too, with Capricorn, we’re thinking about our legacy, and the length of our obituary.

Then we also have, of course, prominently figuring into the equation here, the matter of Santa Claus Jupiter conjunct ‘hi-tech’ Uranus, in behind the scenes, ‘you’ll never be able to catch me’ Pisces, getting its seeming ‘encrypted code’ jollies. Generous Jupiter’s apparently putting rebel Uranian hackers under all of our holiday trees this season, thanks to dictatorial directives from Pluto and the rest of the gestapo gang in Capricorn. Maybe it’s because we’ve been too naughty this year? I just want to know one thing: Whatever happened to plain old Barbie and Ken dolls, and electric trains, as gifts?

Jupiter conjunct Uranus is associated with genius.  The U.S. put a man on the Moon with this same exciting influence. But, now it also has the zealous hacker connotation to it, and the  “freedom of speech at all costs” battle cry.  Or, in other words, I’ll bust your cookie jar and steal all your cookies, and leave you only a few crumbs, if you don’t let me air your dirty laundry in public.  Cranky Uranus has to have its freedom, loves being a law unto itself.  No matter that there are billions of us here on planet Earth, and we all need to somehow figure out how to peacefully co-exist.  Why can’t we make love, instead of waging computer war games?

The last couple days have also been emotionally very gripping with the death of beloved Cancerian, Elizabeth Edwards, and now also word that Aretha Franklin is suffering from pancreatic cancer. (Get well, Aretha.)  We also had the very sad memorial for John Lennon yesterday, marking the 30th anniversary of his senseless death.

Too, even Oprah Winfrey was poignantly captured on tape yesterday, shedding some tears, during a Barbara Walters interview discussing her deep friendship with her best friend, Gayle King.

Simultaneous to these latter, personally gripping events, we have had relationship Venus in Scorpio (sign of death, rebirth, and crisis) sextile Pluto (Scorpio’s ruler), an aspect that often pulls at our heartstrings and tears at our emotions in unprecedented ways. With Venus-Pluto, we become deeply aware (Pluto) of the potentially awesome power of love (Venus), and its life-altering impact on our emotions. This Venus-Pluto influence will still be around for a few more days. We better continue to keep some Kleenex close by.

Still also not a peep out of George Clooney, either! We were hoping that he might come around with the magical Venus-Pluto. Yes, George is also worth at least two or three Kleenex. Looks like another bleak Saturday night’s on tap for us. Do you think that it could be that George is just shy, and that’s why he doesn’t connect with us? He does have his distant Capricorn Moon conjunct serious Saturn.  Saturn maybe subdues him emotionally, and maybe does make him a little bit shy.  ‘George, no need to worry.  We’ll be gentle with you.’

Also today: The Moon enters emotionally detached, cerebrally-minded Aquarius (2:32 am EST), perhaps providing us with a better chance to momentarily glean rational, cooler perspective on everything that’s going on, and try to make sense of some of the mad theater playing out on the world stage, before Mercury does its thing and goes ‘rogue retrograde’ tomorrow until December 30th.”

“Being a singer is a natural gift. It means I’m using to the highest degree possible the gift that God gave me to use. I’m happy with that.” Aretha Franklin.

“Life’s not always fair.  Sometimes you can get a splinter even sliding down a rainbow.” Terri Guillemets

Cosmic Word Of The Day: Saturnian

(Moon in Capricorn. Sun sextile Saturn. Moon square Saturn. Mars enters Capricorn.)

Saturnian: 1) of or pertaining to the planet Saturn 2) of or pertaining to the god “Saturn,” whose reign is referred to as the “golden age.”

“Well, unfortunately, the gig is up for many of us today.  It’s time to put away our coloring books and dump out the Kool-Aid and get serious about life.  There’s simply no escaping the clutches of Karma Lord Saturn, the Taskmaster, today. The old guy’s got his frickin’ fingerprints everywhere. What’s worse: He’s too cheap to paint his nails!

First, we have the Moon in Capricorn, Saturn’s sign. Then we have the Sun in Sagittarius sextile Saturn in Libra (3:01 am EST). Then sex pistol Mars attempts to enter or penetrate the “frigid waters” of Capricorn – and is shockingly successful at it (6:49 pm EST)! Lordy, lordy! Last, but not least, the Capricorn Moon squares Saturn (10:19 pm EST).

So, there you have it.  We have a Saturnian day to look forward to. Nose to the grindstone. Work, work, work, makes Jack a dull boy. Thanks to Saturn. No escape. No big hunk of cheese waiting for us. We’re not allowed to pass go or collect our $200. We’re barred from Boardwalk and Park Place. We’re trapped on Baltic Avenue. Saturn is squeezing out every last ounce of toil and sweat from us. And, the worst part of all: We don’t even have time to vacuum!” 🙂
