Astrology July 8, 2011: Venus Squares “Deep” Pluto, Moon in Libra

COSMIC WATCH:

“Jealousy is that pain which a man feels from the apprehension that he is not equally beloved by the person whom he entirely loves.” Joseph Addison

The Moon remains in diplomatic Libra, however, she may have to perform double-duty to keep things copasetic  today. This is because we have sweet Venus, the ruler of relationships and romance, opposed to intense Pluto. Pluto stands guard over our subconscious, with Venus-Pluto often acting as a conduit for channeling our deeper, more complex emotions.

Too, often what we keep buried inside, can have a darker or more primitive vibration to it, as it hasn’t yet had a chance to be fully processed by our conscious awareness.  On the shadow side, Venus-Pluto has been linked with feelings of jealousy, manipulation, suspicion, and obsession, with Pluto also governing our urge for power and control.

If we feel toxic emotions rising to the surface now, instead of instinctively acting on them, we may be better off trying to probe and figure out why they are there in the first place. Venus-Pluto can be very healing in that it can help us arrive at a fresh awareness and understanding and then, accordingly, help us to purge from our behavior whatever is unhealthy.

Also, this aspect can be positive for “clearing the air” with others, as long as we do so in a manner that does not unduly invite resentment and anger. Hopefully, that is where the “polite” Libra Moon can come to our friendly assist today. Too, a good day to remember to, “make peace, not war.”

Enjoy your Friday!

Astrology July 7, 2011: Venus Square Uranus, Jupiter Trine Pluto

COSMIC WATCH:

“They spoil every romance by trying to make it last forever.” Oscar Wilde

The Moon in social Libra points us in the direction of relationships. However, Libra’s ruler, sweet Venus, is also making a square to erratic Uranus, the planet of rebellion, so affairs of the heart could be somewhat unsettled. Venus-Uranus is often chocked full of twists and turns. With that said, it may also be wise for us to subdue any of our “wilder impulses” (Uranus) for the time being.

We also have a dynamic, very fortuitous trine today between Jupiter, the planet of opportunity and abundance, in financial Taurus, and rejuvenating Pluto in influential Capricorn. A time for us to aim high and reach for the stars with respect to our professional or career goals. This is also an excellent time for purging and letting go of the past, especially ridding ourselves of self-limiting beliefs and doubts about our capabilities. Jupiter-Pluto is also associated with “mega-wealth” (billionaires) and “mega-power,” making this an ideal time to network with high-profile types who may be able to magically assist us in our ascent to the top.

Interestingly, President Obama is also holding a “bipartisan debt discussion” at the White House today with Republican and Democratic leaders. Pluto is the planet that governs debt. Perhaps Pluto’s alignment with lucky Jupiter, may finally bring about some forward progress on the matter of raising (Jupiter) the debt ceiling (Pluto) in the U.S.

Astrology July 6, 2011: Mars Trines Productive Saturn

COSMIC WATCH

“Productivity is never an accident. It is always the result of a commitment to excellence, intelligent planning, and focused effort.” Paul J. Meyer

This is a day when we may be able to make major inroads with respect to our “to-do lists,” as we not only have an efficient, hardworking Virgo Moon, we also have enterprising Mars, in adaptable Gemini, forming a harmonious trine to productive Saturn in balancing Libra. Saturn governs our sense of duty, self-discipline, and powers of concentration.

Too, Mars trine Saturn is not only an aspect of accomplishment, it can also serve to help stabilize our circumstances. Also, positive Mars-Saturn aspects often coincide with our being recognized for our past efforts (Saturn is linked with karma).

Accordingly, this may be an excellent day for us to detail our professional accomplishments with those who are higher up in the chain of command. Also, we may want to make known to these same individuals our long-term goals and ambitions. Saturn symbolizes persons in authority, as well as seniors. Saturn is also associated with tradition, and Mars-Saturn generally tends to favor using more conventional methods to getting ahead, although Mars in Gemini can also be very versatile and experimental, so we have a little bit of flexibility here.

Interestingly, it was announced today that the South Korean city of Pyeongchang will host the 2018 Winter Olympics, bringing the prestigious games to a new region of Asia. Mars is the planet that rules sports and athletics. Perhaps its placement in curious, inquisitive Gemini is why the traditional hierarchy of the Olympics Committee (denoted by Saturn) decided to go with something different here, on this Mars trine Saturn day. (From wsj.com)

Also, another possible manifestation of this same aspect: For the first time, President Obama (Saturn figure) started fielding questions on Twitter today from “Tweeps.” The pioneering Mars in Gemini (the sign of communication) trine to Saturn symbolizing here the “opening of new doors of communication” with a prominent authority figure (Saturn).

Famous people with Mars trine Saturn: Marilyn Monroe, Andy Griffith, Leonardo Da Vinci, Sinclair Lewis, Annie Lennox

Do you keep a daily “to-do list?” If so, do you reward yourself when you successfully complete what’s on that list?

Personal Note: Now that I have Mercury, Venus and the Sun transiting my 4th house of the home and family in Cancer, I get a chance to play the role of “doting aunt” for a while. Below is a link to “Buckman Film Academy,” which is my niece, Sarah Nagy’s, exclusive film school for children in Portland, Oregon. Sarah (a Leo Sun) is selling some of her original artwork on the site to raise some extra money. You can go to her site and then click on her “artwork for sale” page and see what she is offering.

Astrology July 5, 2011: Mercury Square Jupiter, Mercury Quinqunx Pluto

Tags

, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

COSMIC WATCH:

“Vision without action is a dream. Action without vision is simply passing the time. Action with vision is making a positive difference.” Joel Barker

With cerebral Mercury in ostentatious Leo square to long-winded Jupiter in moneybags Taurus, we may be hatching some grandiose, “get rich quick” schemes in our heads today. But how to implement those ideas is where our vision may suddenly get murky. Mercury square Jupiter tends to make us go overboard in our thinking. We exaggerate outcomes. Get sloppy with the facts.

One saving grace for us here:  The Moon is deposited in practical, “detail-obsessed” Virgo. She will likely be taking critical aim at many of our hyperbolic meanderings, as soon as they surface.

We also have Mercury in Leo forming a stressful quinqunx to controlling Pluto in executive boardroom Capricorn. This aspect can tempt us to impose our will upon others, without their consent. If we choose to go down this prickly path, we may want to arm ourselves with an exit strategy, in advance. In the event our personal agendas meet with formidable, unfathomable resistance.

“If you want to be incrementally better: Be competitive. If you want to be exponentially better: Be cooperative.” Unknown

Have you ever had any luck with “get-rich-quick schemes?” Or are you too savvy to get involved with them in the first place? Do you think the “road to riches” has to be unduly difficult?

Astrology July 4th, 2011: Venus Enters Cancer, Venus Trine Neptune

Tags

, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

COSMIC WATCH:

“Eventually you can get into the nuts and bolts of reality: nurturing, caring, and getting along.” Jody Watley

Love Goddess Venus enters self-protective, security-conscious, “Cancer the Crab,” the sign of home and family today. She will stay in Cancer until July 28th. Venus in Cancer inspires our deeper nurturing and caring impulses, and also heightens our desire for nesting and privacy.

Venus is also trine idealistic Neptune, in tender-hearted Pisces, making us extra forgiving, as well as more “fantasy-prone” in romance. This is a highly creative aspect that is excellent for any activity that calls for the full employment of our imagination. Many artists, musicians, writers, film-makers, and dancers will often have Venus-Neptune aspects prominent in their horoscopes, including the late Hans Christian Andersen, the Danish “fairy tale writer,” famous for his children’s stories.  Too, Venus trine Neptune is a classic aspect of “fairy tale romance,” so there’s a nice, synchronistic tie-in here.

We addtionally have intellectual Mercury in dramatic Leo making a fortuitous trine with brilliant Uranus in adventurous Aries. Uranus governs genius and intuition, so it’s possible that today will provide fertile ground for a plethora of “aha moments” to occur.

The Moon will also be in theatrical, glamorous Leo all day, favorable for parades and other “Fun Fourth” celebrations. Later tonight, she will shift into immaculate, attentive Virgo (9:16 pm EDT) to tidy everything up.

Famous people with Venus in Cancer: Meryl Streep, Clint Eastwood, Cameron Diaz, Lena Horne, Martin Sheen.

Happy Fourth of July!

COSMIC WATCH:

“My favorite review described me as the cinematic equivalent of junk mail.” Steve Buscemi

The fun-loving, creative Leo Moon puts us in the mood to enjoy life’s sweet pleasures. It also provides a stage upon which we can star and get noticed. The Moon’s sextiles to motivating Mars (9:02 am EDT) and productive Saturn (12:27 pm EDT) also bodes well for our accomplishing whatever it is that we set out to do.

Astrology July 1, 2011: New Moon Solar Eclipse in “Nesting” Cancer

, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

COSMIC WATCH:

“There’s no place like home.” Dorothy, from The Wizard of Oz.

There’s a New Moon Solar Eclipse at 9 degrees of security-conscious Cancer today (4:55 am EDT), the nurturing sign of Mother and our ancestral roots that is also linked to the past. Eclipses are highly charged events that can have impact for up to six months. Too, the affects of an eclipse are often felt immediately, usually within a few days, on either side of the event (please refer to my other recent “eclipse blogs,”  for more info about this subject).

This lunation, in which the Sun and Moon are both conjunct in Cancer, also sets up a “grand cardinal cross,” or square in the sky, involving Uranus in Aries (personal freedom), Pluto in Capricorn (transformation), and Saturn in Libra (responsibility). New Moons usher in new beginnings, although Solar Eclipses can also bring about sudden endings, especially with respect to long-standing situations.

The grand cardinal cross can also coincide with critical turning points, or releases in matters, that have us “springing into action,” as a response. Our “taking action” can also have the net affect of creating new beginnings for ourselves. Too, just as the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) denote the arrival of the seasons, the activation of the cardinal cross can also denote pivotal life transitions. This “much ballyhooed configuration” is often a potent antidote or cure for any stagnating or fence-straddling tendencies.

Today’s eclipse lunation will likely have us dealing with practical issues of our own basic survival and security, something that is central to the Cancer psyche. Cancer, insulated by its crab shell, is perennially wanting to shore up its defenses and protect itself, and its family members, from possible hostile forces in the outer world. Cancer rules the home (and the womb), our personal haven and private base of operations, to which we return each day to seek solace and nourishment (Cancer also rules the food supply and eating habits).

With the sign of Cancer also being governed by the feminine Moon, women’s issues (including women’s health), as well as issues involving the family and parenting, may figure more prominently into our lives now. Too, just this week, with the Sun in Cancer making an opposition to bulldozing Pluto in Capricorn (part of the grand cross), an FDA panel unanimously voted to revoke the approval of  Avastin, a popular drug for breast cancer treatment (Cancer rules the breasts).

Also, testimony is expected to conclude today in the riveting, high-profile, Casey Anthony trial, that has much of the nation, even the world, glued to their television sets. CNN.com is also reporting that the case could go to the jury as early as this weekend. The Casey Anthony trial centers around a mother allegedly murdering her own child (Cancer-related theme of mother and child). Another example of how the grand cross energy often brings matters to a head and or provides for resolution.

Too, NYT.com is reporting today that the high-profile sexual assault case against Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the former head of the International Monetary Fund, involving a hotel maid (a Cancer-ruled occupation), has suddenly turned around and is weakening, which is a huge development. Other internet news reports, this morning, say the case against him is “imploding” or “collapsing.” In the eclipse chart again, the Sun and Moon in Cancer (the sign of hotels) oppose Pluto which rules rape and sexual assault.  Too, Pluto rules investigative efforts and often when it’s ray is activated, we find out new information that previously was hidden. Reportedly, the hotel maid now has major credibility issues.

Also, with the Eclipse’s square to freedom-loving, rebellious Uranus, in self-identity Aries, we may be tempted to be a bit more defiant now and break with convention in a bid to “do our own thing.” Of course, the Eclipse’s square to taskmaster Saturn, in partnership Libra, should also serve to hold us accountable to others for our actions. Saturn rarely lets us off the hook.

Too, Aries rules the world of sports, and last night, the NBA locked out its’ players which could imperil the 2011-12 basketball season. Could this move also be a manifestation of the volatile Uranus in Aries shaking things up in the sports world? Uranus, on the shadow side, can be a very disruptive influence.

BTW, with the transiting Cancer Sun’s square to non-traditional Uranus (part of the grand cross), this past week, we saw gay marriage, still somewhat of a controversial matter, legalized in the state of New York. Uranus is also the planet of equality and civil rights.

Again, purging, transforming Pluto (ruler of death and regeneration), stationed in utilitarian Capricorn, is a major player in today’s Eclipse, and grand cross, with the Sun and Moon in Cancer opposing it and both Uranus and Saturn squaring it. Pluto will likely have us, once again, reinventing or re-fashioning ourselves (maybe out of practical necessity). We may also discover things about ourselves (hopefully uncover some hidden strengths), that we never knew existed. Pluto characteristically speaks to the “depths of our experience.” It rules our subconscious. Basically, anything that is buried or hidden.

For instance, Pluto also rules mines, and on Wednesday, of this week, U.S. Labor Department officials announced that the Massey energy mine disaster, where 29 workers were killed more than a year ago, was preventable (from wsj.com). This finding also was released (coincidentally?) with the Sun exactly opposite to Pluto.

Too, with Pluto’s “eliminating” ray stoked, once again by the opposing Sun in Cancer, the Greek Parliament finally approved a five-year “austerity plan” for that country. Also, on our own “home front,” with this same planetary aspect, President Obama put pressure on Congress, to come up with a debt-reduction package. He also talked about ending certain tax breaks for “millionaires and billionaires.” Pluto additionally rules debt and taxes, and credit.

Pluto is also, however, not just about coping with less materially, or borrowing. It can also mean that we must pare down our range of activities, so that we can focus or concentrate our energies more. With both Pluto and Saturn, we tend to consolidate our forces.

One more thing, sort of interesting here and very applicable to today’s “home-related” Cancer eclipse. On Wednesday (again with the Cancer Sun opposite revelatory Pluto), a New York Times/CBS News Poll revealed that nearly 9 in 10 Americans say that “owning a home” is still an important part of the American dream, even though many also question it as a good investment, in wake of the brutal recession. (from NYT.com)

NEWS UPDATE Fri. afternoon 7/1: In Riverside County in California, the County Supervisor, Jeff Stone, is reportedly calling for as many as 13 southern counties in California to secede from the state and form a new state called “South California.” He reportedly proposed the idea late yesterday in a statement. I thought this proposal was fascinating, coming on the eve of the Cancer Eclipse, as Cancer rules matters of the land and state government. This “secession” also has shadows of rebel Uranus written all over it. And, Pluto, as Pluto transforms things and this would create another state.

Also, in Minnesota today, the state shut down over a budget deficit impasse (Pluto?).

Other “New Moon in Cancer” tie-ins: moving or changing residences; home remodeling or redecorating; having a yard or tag sale; matters involving homeless people and homeless shelters; self-nurturing; focusing on family issues or relationships (perhaps patching up difficulties); family reunions; outings or events with neighbors; involvement with local community activities;  genealogy research; baking, cooking, and trying out new recipes; buying home furniture or new home appliances; matters involving the restaurant or food industry; anything connected with grocery stores; food banks; matters pertaining to real estate and property investment; property tax issues; matters involving the hotel or hospitality industry; farming and agriculture; issues of homeland security and defense; acts of patriotism; doing gardening and yard work – time for planting above-ground crops (until the Full Moon); matters involving birth control, pregnancy, foster care, and adoption.

Happy Eclipse Day!

Astrology June 28, 2011: Sun Opposite “Private Eye” Pluto

Tags

, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

COSMIC WATCH:

“He who controls others may be powerful, but he who has mastered himself is mightier still.” Lao Tzu

The Moon vacates self-indulgent Taurus for chatterbox Gemini (3:57 am EDT) quickening the pace of our responses and also making us keen on wanting to articulate our feelings with just about anybody who will give us five minutes.

We may even be willing to share some of our innermost, personal secrets today, as we have the illuminating Sun forming an opposition to “spy who loves me” Pluto (Pluto governs spies and espionage). Mysterious Pluto presides over our subconscious and when his shadowy ray is activated, we often “spill the beans” (purge) on private matters from A to Z. Too, the chatty Gemini Moon is more than happy to assist us here. 🙂

Sun-Pluto can be a very healing and transforming influence (Pluto rules rebirth), as it can serve to shine a light on certain things about ourselves, our motivations, etc., that we were previously unaware of, including suddenly making us aware of inner strengths or resources that we never knew we had before. Pluto rules the study of psychology and psychiatry.

When the Sun and Pluto are paired together, issues of power and control also tend to arise. Much of the time with this aspect, we are wanting more of both of these things. Too, because Pluto is connected with the hidden side of our nature, our darker impulses may manifest and we may be tempted to act in ways that could be described as more primitive. For instance, we may get more defensive and interpret things around us in more of a hostile or threatening manner, especially with the Sun in self-protective Cancer.

Again, the best antidote for any of this more unenlightened type behavior, is simply practicing self-awareness and keeping mindful of our mannerisms and inner stirrings. We also would be very wise to adopt more of a cooperative stance when dealing with others today versus unleashing our inner, unruly child.

IN THE NEWS: On the eve of this Sun-Pluto aspect being exact, late yesterday,  Illinois Governor, Rod Blagojevich, was found guilty of corruption and trying to sell President Obama’s Senate Seat. He could receive 20 years in prison. On the shadow side, Sun-Pluto reigns over corruption, manipulation, and misuse of power. Pluto is also in Capricorn, the sign of government officials.

On a more uplifting note, Rep. Gabrielle Gifford, also made her first, official, public appearance in six months, late yesterday, at a NASA event in Houston, with her astronaut husband, Mark Kelly. Gifford was shot in the head back in January during a mass shooting in Arizona. Her public appearance yesterday was certainly a more positive manifestation of this same Sun-Pluto energy. Too, with this influence, we often get a chance to see or witness things that have been hidden from view for a while. Gifford has been making a miraculous recovery from her injuries, again a testament to her own indomitable spirit and Pluto’s healing, transformational ray.

Enjoy your Tuesday!

Astrology June 27, 2011: Mars Sextiles Radical Uranus

Tags

COSMIC WATCH:

“Things do not change; we change.” Henry David Thoreau

The Moon is housed in practical, down-to-earth Taurus all day. We crave more tangible evidence of our success, as confirmation that we are going in the right direction with our lives. Perhaps a good, overall question to pose to ourselves today: “Is the payback that we are getting for our varied efforts, worth it?” If not, we may want to scale back or eliminate those things that are draining our energy and giving us very little reward.

The Taurus Moon is also in a waning phase, ahead of the New Moon Eclipse on July 1. Meaning it’s a good time for releasing what is no longer practically serving us. Too, we have the Sun in security-conscious Cancer coming up on an opposition to purging Pluto, which is exact tomorrow.

Energizing Mars in idea-rich Gemini also sextiles radical Uranus in pioneering Aries.  If we perhaps engage in a bit of brainstorming, we may be able to craft innovative solutions to old problems or challenges today. Uranus, the planet of change, that also governs technology, is linked with genius and brilliant flashes of intuition. It also tends to encourage from us more unorthodox approaches to things, which could clash a bit with today’s more conservative, time-tested, Taurus Moon.

Enjoy your Monday!

Astrology June 24, 2011: Mercury Sesquiquadrate Vague Neptune

Tags

, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

COSMIC WATCH:

“Confusion is a word we have invented for an order which is not understood.” Henry Miller

There are a few confusing or cryptic threads running through today’s cosmic forecast due to thinker Mercury in Cancer’s sesquiquadrate aspect to vague Neptune in “out to sea” Pisces. This is not a major influence, but nevertheless, it can create some misinterpretations or misjudgments, or communication snafus.

Basically, what we’re advised to do, as an antidote to this more ambiguous energy, is to simply clarify things as much as possible. In other words, give our tender brains a little gymnastics workout by asking questions or re-checking facts and figures, etc. This also sends a clear signal to the Universe that we are wise to its wicked shenanigans and that it best not mess with us. 🙂

Too, we have the impulsive Aries Moon chiming in here with a square to Mercury (1:30 pm EDT) which also suggests that we avoid making snap decisions on vital concerns, especially anything family or hearth-related, as remember, Mercury is in “there’s no place like home” Cancer. We also need to keep in mind that Mercury in Cancer has more of an emotional component to its style of thinking, so our feelings are more apt to permeate our thoughts now. We also tend to be more sensitive in our communications.

Later on, we do catch a lucky break with the Moon’s fun sextile to social, lovable Venus in cheery Gemini around mealtime (6:08 pm EDT), so we may want to cap off the workweek by going out to dinner with friends.Whenever Venus’s ray is kindly stoked, we have more of a desire for bonding and connecting. Venus rules our magical “power of attraction.” Venus is, however, also making a semi-square aspect to over-indulgent Jupiter in “jelly roll” Taurus (9:56 pm EDT), so we are urged to practice, at least, some measure of moderation.

“Be moderate in everything, including moderation.” Horace Porter

One more thing. If you’re a gardener, this is a great day to pull up weeds, as we have the Moon in a fire sign (Aries), along with a last quarter phase Moon, which means any weeds pulled now will take a while to grow back. This is because when the Moon is in its last quarter phase, there is a decline in energy, and a fire sign is also minus moisture. Also, a good day to mow the lawn for the same reason. Or, to get a haircut, if we do not want our hair to grow back fast.

Do you garden according to the Moon phases?

Enjoy your Friday!
