Cosmic Quote of the Day: “Learning to let go should be learned before learning to get. Life should be touched, not strangled. You’ve got to relax, let it happen at times, and at others move forward with it.” Ray Bradbury

Every day, each of us wrestles with “hanging on or letting go” in myriad aspects of our life. While we’re not always sure which route to take here, being clear about our values and the personal vision for our life, is normally a good starting point from which to begin to wade through this process and to move on, especially if we are to be true to ourselves.  Today, with the illuminating Sun opposite purging Pluto, a once a year occurrence, we tend to be more focused upon those issues that we intuitively know we need to get rid of, that have been weighing us down, where we’ve been holding on perhaps too tightly out of fear, or out of concern of a loss of control. Writer Dan Brown, author of The Da Vinci Code, says that men go to far greater lengths to avoid what they fear than to obtain what they desire.

River In A Forest

Cosmic Quote of the Day: “There is a grace of kind listening, as well as a grace of kind speaking.” Frederick William Faber

When we are in conversation with a person, and listening to their every word, we are “fully gracing them” with our presence. When we choose to carefully formulate our words, or what we want to say to another, we also are displaying kind or thoughtful regard for them because we are letting them know that we value, honor and respect their time and attention, as well as showing to them that we’re concerned with how our words may impact them. English novelist Mary Ann Evans, known by her pen name, George Eliot, also once quipped that it is always good to know, if only in passing, charming human beings. “It refreshes one like flowers and woods and clear brooks.” In astrology, Venus, the planet of love and beauty, symbolizes the kindnesses or niceties that we bestow upon each other.

Today’s Energy:

Communicator Mercury, in articulate Gemini, is sextile gracious, soothing Venus in heartfelt Leo, today.  Ideally, we are expressing ourselves with more politeness and refinement now; coming from a place that admirably embraces and showcases the social and loving aspects of our being. Accordingly, this is a great day to write love letters, read loves stories, exchange hugs and kisses, or to speak sincerely what’s in our heart. Also, it’s a good time for social or party planning, including sending out invitations, buying stationary, or putting together floral arrangements.

The Moon exits individualistic Aquarius for dreamy, mystical Pisces, mid-morning (10:22 am), where it will hang out for the next couple of days. Later, a harmonious trine from the Moon to motivating Mars, in nesting Cancer (11:19 pm), helps to provide us with a reassuring sense of our home as our personal sanctuary.

Tomorrow, the illuminating Sun also makes its annual opposition to re-configuring Pluto, the planet of renewal and transformation, so there may be a growing sense today of some kind of a turning point getting ready to take place in our lives, or around us. Pluto often shows us what needs to be taken down or gotten rid of, and then later, what needs to be erected, or resurrected, in its place.

“Be present in all things and thankful for all things.” Maya Angelou

COSMIC WATCH:

Self-knowledge is always a good thing, in my opinion. Even if it sometimes has us scratching our heads and wondering about ourselves. And today, with the annual Sun-Pluto opposition (4:03 am EDT), we may have a chance, in some way, to become more intimately acquainted with the hidden dimension of our beings, the subconscious realm, which Pluto happens to govern, and which includes our fears, obsessions, and insecurities, the stuff that usually gets a bad wrap, as well as our brightest hopes and wishes.

Yesterday in my blog, I also wrote about how control and power issues can often suddenly erupt, when we have intense Pluto energy circulating about the ether. Too, again, these kinds of lower vibrational behaviors are typically only manifestations of some of the deeper, more complex issues that are always stealthily echoing through the corridors of our inner chambers.

Normally, however, when we choose to befriend the resident boogeyman, that is holed up inside all of us, by shining a bright light upon him and greeting him with, perhaps, a startling “Hello,” he usually ends up becoming a lot less of a scary creature, especially as we begin to see him for what he is: a vulnerable entity that just doesn’t quite know how to operate with grace and finesse in the real world yet, probably because has never really been shown how to do that sort of thing, by his friendly gatekeeper, namely us. Maybe today, though, we can begin to change all that by showing him the ropes a little, around our neck of the woods. Attempt to peaceably integrate him into our day, and see what happens. We just might be pleasantly surprised!

With that being said, today is also an excellent time for doing some personal journaling, or for reading books on psychology. Too, I personally awoke from a very powerful dream, this morning, right about the time the Sun-Pluto opposition was exact. I have been mentally picking apart that dream, ever since, wondering about the meaning of it for my life. Also, when I awoke, I immediately thought to myself, “Wow, so this is my Sun-Pluto experience!” Too, I have transiting Mercury exactly trine my natal Neptune today, which may also help to explain the very vivid nature of my dream.

The Moon also shifts into social Libra today (5:43 am EDT), forming a quinqunx to imaginative, dreamy Neptune in Pisces, later this evening. Hopefully, a perfect portal to playfully escape into the heavenly production of a fireworks display.

What surprises you about yourself?

Astrology July 3, 2014: When Saying “No” Really Means “Yes” – Pluto Aspects

astrology for july 3 2014, setting up boundaries, Sun opposite Pluto, values, Venus quinqunx Pluto

“Because after you’ve crossed some lines, you just keep crossing them.” Chuck Palahnuik

COSMIC WATCH:

Sometimes uttering a firm or polite “No” to others is the equivalent of saying a giant “Yes” to ourselves. “No” can serve as a trusty lifesaver for us as we learn to set or re-set appropriate limits or boundaries around us that are necessary for our own self-care and survival.

Also, with two notable “Pluto” aspects occurring, over the next couple of days, we may want to make sure that we have that “No” word ready to go, as needed, as part of our official behavioral toolkit, as thorny control or power (Pluto) issues may now gravitate to the forefront. Too, as we all know, relationships are always a two-way street, and that if we want others to kindly respect our boundaries, we must do the same with them.

Today, we have Venus in the travel and communication sign of Gemini quinqunx to Pluto in Capricorn, which rules business, government, and authority figures (4:15 pm EDT). The quinqunx is regarded as more of an adjustment aspect, meaning that something under the relationship (Venus) hood, be it in business or the personal realm, may need to be re-set or re-aligned, at this time, as something is likely not flowing quite right. It could just be that our own attitude or state of mind is what’s amiss, with Venus in the mental sign of Gemini, which rules our thoughts and ideas. In this case, we may also want to think about re-visiting our values, which Venus also governs, and see if we are still on track with them via living out our life as an honest expression of what we truly value or hold dear to us. Venus-Pluto may just be showing us that, indeed, our internals have changed and what we held as important to us, in the past, is no longer the case.

Too, with Venus also ruling our money and possessions, we may want to watch over our expenditures, more closely now; or perhaps closely examine what it is that we may want to suddenly purge or rid ourselves of. Pluto’s energy has more of a compulsive feel to it. We may feel that we must act on something now, that things can no longer wait!

Some other possible “shadow-type” manifestations with Venus-Pluto: greed, manipulation, intense jealousy; being overly possessive. On the positive side, Venus-Pluto can demand that we become absolutely honest with ourselves, and face the full truth of our situation or circumstances, which, in the end, can be very liberating and empowering for us, even though it may not be the easiest thing to do, in the moment.

Fortunately, the Moon is still also in logical, rational Virgo, for another day. This energy may help to diffuse some of the potential emotionalism or possible fall-out of the more heated Venus-Pluto configuration.

Meanwhile, on Friday, we also have the Sun in its annual opposition to Pluto. But, more on that next time.

Who would you like to say “No” to, and why?

COSMIC WATCH:

“There’s no place like home.” Dorothy, from The Wizard of Oz.

There’s a New Moon Solar Eclipse at 9 degrees of security-conscious Cancer today (4:55 am EDT), the nurturing sign of Mother and our ancestral roots that is also linked to the past. Eclipses are highly charged events that can have impact for up to six months. Too, the affects of an eclipse are often felt immediately, usually within a few days, on either side of the event (please refer to my other recent “eclipse blogs,”  for more info about this subject).

This lunation, in which the Sun and Moon are both conjunct in Cancer, also sets up a “grand cardinal cross,” or square in the sky, involving Uranus in Aries (personal freedom), Pluto in Capricorn (transformation), and Saturn in Libra (responsibility). New Moons usher in new beginnings, although Solar Eclipses can also bring about sudden endings, especially with respect to long-standing situations.

The grand cardinal cross can also coincide with critical turning points, or releases in matters, that have us “springing into action,” as a response. Our “taking action” can also have the net affect of creating new beginnings for ourselves. Too, just as the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) denote the arrival of the seasons, the activation of the cardinal cross can also denote pivotal life transitions. This “much ballyhooed configuration” is often a potent antidote or cure for any stagnating or fence-straddling tendencies.

Today’s eclipse lunation will likely have us dealing with practical issues of our own basic survival and security, something that is central to the Cancer psyche. Cancer, insulated by its crab shell, is perennially wanting to shore up its defenses and protect itself, and its family members, from possible hostile forces in the outer world. Cancer rules the home (and the womb), our personal haven and private base of operations, to which we return each day to seek solace and nourishment (Cancer also rules the food supply and eating habits).

With the sign of Cancer also being governed by the feminine Moon, women’s issues (including women’s health), as well as issues involving the family and parenting, may figure more prominently into our lives now. Too, just this week, with the Sun in Cancer making an opposition to bulldozing Pluto in Capricorn (part of the grand cross), an FDA panel unanimously voted to revoke the approval of  Avastin, a popular drug for breast cancer treatment (Cancer rules the breasts).

Also, testimony is expected to conclude today in the riveting, high-profile, Casey Anthony trial, that has much of the nation, even the world, glued to their television sets. CNN.com is also reporting that the case could go to the jury as early as this weekend. The Casey Anthony trial centers around a mother allegedly murdering her own child (Cancer-related theme of mother and child). Another example of how the grand cross energy often brings matters to a head and or provides for resolution.

Too, NYT.com is reporting today that the high-profile sexual assault case against Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the former head of the International Monetary Fund, involving a hotel maid (a Cancer-ruled occupation), has suddenly turned around and is weakening, which is a huge development. Other internet news reports, this morning, say the case against him is “imploding” or “collapsing.” In the eclipse chart again, the Sun and Moon in Cancer (the sign of hotels) oppose Pluto which rules rape and sexual assault.  Too, Pluto rules investigative efforts and often when it’s ray is activated, we find out new information that previously was hidden. Reportedly, the hotel maid now has major credibility issues.

Also, with the Eclipse’s square to freedom-loving, rebellious Uranus, in self-identity Aries, we may be tempted to be a bit more defiant now and break with convention in a bid to “do our own thing.” Of course, the Eclipse’s square to taskmaster Saturn, in partnership Libra, should also serve to hold us accountable to others for our actions. Saturn rarely lets us off the hook.

Too, Aries rules the world of sports, and last night, the NBA locked out its’ players which could imperil the 2011-12 basketball season. Could this move also be a manifestation of the volatile Uranus in Aries shaking things up in the sports world? Uranus, on the shadow side, can be a very disruptive influence.

BTW, with the transiting Cancer Sun’s square to non-traditional Uranus (part of the grand cross), this past week, we saw gay marriage, still somewhat of a controversial matter, legalized in the state of New York. Uranus is also the planet of equality and civil rights.

Again, purging, transforming Pluto (ruler of death and regeneration), stationed in utilitarian Capricorn, is a major player in today’s Eclipse, and grand cross, with the Sun and Moon in Cancer opposing it and both Uranus and Saturn squaring it. Pluto will likely have us, once again, reinventing or re-fashioning ourselves (maybe out of practical necessity). We may also discover things about ourselves (hopefully uncover some hidden strengths), that we never knew existed. Pluto characteristically speaks to the “depths of our experience.” It rules our subconscious. Basically, anything that is buried or hidden.

For instance, Pluto also rules mines, and on Wednesday, of this week, U.S. Labor Department officials announced that the Massey energy mine disaster, where 29 workers were killed more than a year ago, was preventable (from wsj.com). This finding also was released (coincidentally?) with the Sun exactly opposite to Pluto.

Too, with Pluto’s “eliminating” ray stoked, once again by the opposing Sun in Cancer, the Greek Parliament finally approved a five-year “austerity plan” for that country. Also, on our own “home front,” with this same planetary aspect, President Obama put pressure on Congress, to come up with a debt-reduction package. He also talked about ending certain tax breaks for “millionaires and billionaires.” Pluto additionally rules debt and taxes, and credit.

Pluto is also, however, not just about coping with less materially, or borrowing. It can also mean that we must pare down our range of activities, so that we can focus or concentrate our energies more. With both Pluto and Saturn, we tend to consolidate our forces.

One more thing, sort of interesting here and very applicable to today’s “home-related” Cancer eclipse. On Wednesday (again with the Cancer Sun opposite revelatory Pluto), a New York Times/CBS News Poll revealed that nearly 9 in 10 Americans say that “owning a home” is still an important part of the American dream, even though many also question it as a good investment, in wake of the brutal recession. (from NYT.com)

NEWS UPDATE Fri. afternoon 7/1: In Riverside County in California, the County Supervisor, Jeff Stone, is reportedly calling for as many as 13 southern counties in California to secede from the state and form a new state called “South California.” He reportedly proposed the idea late yesterday in a statement. I thought this proposal was fascinating, coming on the eve of the Cancer Eclipse, as Cancer rules matters of the land and state government. This “secession” also has shadows of rebel Uranus written all over it. And, Pluto, as Pluto transforms things and this would create another state.

Also, in Minnesota today, the state shut down over a budget deficit impasse (Pluto?).

Other “New Moon in Cancer” tie-ins: moving or changing residences; home remodeling or redecorating; having a yard or tag sale; matters involving homeless people and homeless shelters; self-nurturing; focusing on family issues or relationships (perhaps patching up difficulties); family reunions; outings or events with neighbors; involvement with local community activities;  genealogy research; baking, cooking, and trying out new recipes; buying home furniture or new home appliances; matters involving the restaurant or food industry; anything connected with grocery stores; food banks; matters pertaining to real estate and property investment; property tax issues; matters involving the hotel or hospitality industry; farming and agriculture; issues of homeland security and defense; acts of patriotism; doing gardening and yard work – time for planting above-ground crops (until the Full Moon); matters involving birth control, pregnancy, foster care, and adoption.

Happy Eclipse Day!

COSMIC WATCH:

“Things do not change; we change.” Henry David Thoreau

The Moon is housed in practical, down-to-earth Taurus all day. We crave more tangible evidence of our success, as confirmation that we are going in the right direction with our lives. Perhaps a good, overall question to pose to ourselves today: “Is the payback that we are getting for our varied efforts, worth it?” If not, we may want to scale back or eliminate those things that are draining our energy and giving us very little reward.

The Taurus Moon is also in a waning phase, ahead of the New Moon Eclipse on July 1. Meaning it’s a good time for releasing what is no longer practically serving us. Too, we have the Sun in security-conscious Cancer coming up on an opposition to purging Pluto, which is exact tomorrow.

Energizing Mars in idea-rich Gemini also sextiles radical Uranus in pioneering Aries.  If we perhaps engage in a bit of brainstorming, we may be able to craft innovative solutions to old problems or challenges today. Uranus, the planet of change, that also governs technology, is linked with genius and brilliant flashes of intuition. It also tends to encourage from us more unorthodox approaches to things, which could clash a bit with today’s more conservative, time-tested, Taurus Moon.

Enjoy your Monday!

Patrice’s “Cosmic Word Of The Day”: Control

Origin: 1425-1475 late ME co ( u ) ntrollen (v.) < AF contreroller to keep a duplicate account or roll, deriv. of contrerolle

Cosmic Weather: We’re working on control issues today with the protective Cancer Sun opposite controlling Pluto in authoritative Capricorn. Taking control of a situation and exerting our influence now may be necessary, as oppositions can bring matters to a head.  But gaining control may also come with a hefty cost, and it could end up alienating us from others, if we find that we overreach and step too far beyond our boundaries.

Often with Sun-Pluto, we are tempted to ride roughshod over other people’s desires in order to see that our own agenda is carried out. Or, the flip side of the coin, we can encounter individuals behaving in this manner. Pluto energy can be very dictatorial and manipulating. So if we find that our energies for control and dominance are being met with undue resistance, we may want to back off or maybe see if we can collaborate instead.

Additionally, our tempers flare up easier now with mental Mercury entering highly emotional Cancer and instantly squaring tempermental and rebellious Uranus. This is a highly charged aspect. While this can be a very creative influence, excellent for originality, we are also more prone now to erratic and hasty decision-making that could backfire on us at a later date, if we act too recklessly without first gathering all the necessary facts and information.

(News Update: U.S. Lawmakers have reached accord on new finance rules. Example of the ” Pluto Control” energy now permeating the cosmos. The WSJ reports the new finance bill will reform financial markets and firms for decades. Pluto rules credit, regulations and transformation and it is in the sign of Capricorn which rules government. On the flip side of this, what are you trying to regulate or transform in your life with Pluto’s help ?)

“You can not always control circumstances, but you can control your own thoughts.” Charles Popplestown.

“‘The control of nature’ is a phrase conceived in arrogance, born of the Neanderthal age of biology and the convenience of man.” Rachel Carson.

Famous Cancerian Birthdays June 25th: George Michael (46), Carly Simon (64).

Carly’s song You Belong To Me fits like a glove with the controlling and possessive Pluto energy around us today.

Enjoy your Friday!

May want to consider adopting a more controlled response today.
