“The secret of success in life is for man to be ready for his opportunity when it comes.” Benjamin Disraeli

“Opportunity” could very well be knocking for us today, too, in the form of the rare, triple conjunction of Mercury (communication and ideas), Venus (love and creativity) and Jupiter (optimism and expansion) in trailblazing Aries. This is a very magical aspect filled with untold possibilities for those who know how to “seize the moment.”

The Moon’s shift into analytical Virgo today, from showy Leo, (10:00 am EDT) also helps us to logically sift through the myriad possibilities before us and choose the most auspicious path for ourselves. Additionally, Mars, governing initiative, enters rock solid Taurus, supplying us with an extra measure of practical determination and common sense to reach our goals. Mars will be in grounded, plodding Taurus until June 21st, although today, with the fiery Aries triple conjunction, we may still be feeling a bit “unleashed.”

Amazingly, we have not had Mercury, Venus, and Jupiter exactly conjunct in Aries for well over a 100 years, although this trio was close together in Aries, in late April of 1928, when actress, singer, and dancer Shirley Temple, was born. This child prodigy shot to superstardom (Jupiter) at the tender age of 6, while also winning over the hearts (Venus) of many on the planet. Interesting, too, that Shirley would later become a Jupiter-ruled ambassador (with performer Venus ruling the entertainment portion of her career). I think Shirley Temple’s hopeful, charismatic, childhood persona is a rather fitting depiction of the type of upbeat, exuberant, playful type energy that we have around us today via the triple conjunction in unstoppable, pioneering Aries.

In the News: On the eve of the Mercury, Venus, and Jupiter triple conjunction in pioneering Aries, it was announced that Microsoft has agreed to purchase “Skype” for a colossal (Jupiter) 8.5 billion dollars, reportedly the largest acquisition in Microsoft’s history. When banker Jupiter is in the news, especially aligned with money-ruling Venus, we often hear about gigantic dealings. It will be interesting to see how Microsoft utilizes Skype in the future.

On a personal note, I have decided to take a hiatus from the daily astrology, to focus on some other pursuits. I will still be blogging here, but just not on a daily basis. As always, I appreciate your reading my blog and hope my astrological insights have been of value to you.

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Mothers are fonder than fathers of their children because they are more certain they are their own.” Aristotle 🙂

With the Moon’s stay in “sheltering” Cancer all day, the sign of our familial past, and with it also being “Mother’s Day,” we may be eager to embark upon an endearing, “sentimental journey” down memory lane. However, the Cancer Moon’s restless square formations to Venus, Mercury and Jupiter, in “new beginnings” Aries, and the stable Taurus Sun’s semi-square to “awakening” Uranus in Aries, also nudges us on to seek out “extraordinary” (Uranus) new experiences, perhaps with family members, in hopes of adding to our divine soul’s rich treasure trove of unforgettable moments.

“Men are wise in proportion, not to their experience, but to their capacity for experience.” George Bernard Shaw.

Famous Taurus Birthdays May 8th: Toni Tenille (71), late Ricky Nelson (71). Remember, Harriet Nelson? Ricky Nelson’s mother, from The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet? She was, perhaps, a template for the “perfect mom.” Used to love that show, and also, like other girls my age, had a huge crush on Ricky back then.

Happy Mother’s Day to all!

Astrology April 3, 2011: New Moon in Aries, Mars Conjunct Uranus in Aries

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Identity is destiny.” Stephen Covey

We have a New Moon at 14 degrees of Aries today (10:33 am EDT). Aries, by the way, symbolically represents our “self-identity,” in reference to the Stephen Covey quote above. New Moons also signify “new beginnings,” and this one occurring here, in the first sign of the zodiac, is the equivalent of having a “double whammy,” as Aries denotes “new starts.”

Too, we just had “energizer” Mars, the ruler of Aries, re-enter its own sign yesterday, joining the Sun, Mercury, Jupiter and Uranus. Mars is also conjunct “liberating” Uranus today (4:52 pm EDT) in Aries, something that has not happened since May of 1932. Mars-Uranus is an electrifying, powerhouse of an aspect. It can be explosive, but it can also inspire genius and innovation.

Uranus also rules radio broadcasting and the last time these two planets paired up in adventurous Aries is exactly when late comedian Jack Benny‘s “radio program” debuted on the air (May 2, 1932). Benny was also an Aquarian (a sign ruled by Uranus). Jack Benny, with his comedic genius (Uranus) ended up being a pioneer (Aries) in the entertainment industry. He liberated many of us  from our sordid daily routines by making us laugh. His more rebellious, wacky brand of humor was highly original and had “Uranus” stamped all over it.

Also, a synchronistic, personal tie-in here to today’s Aries New Moon and also the Mars conjunct Uranus aspect: A few minutes ago, while I was still lying in bed listening to soft jazz on the radio, a song suddenly came over the radio with the powerful lyric, “As long as you are breathing, you can start all over again.” I had never heard this song before (don’t even know if that is the title of the song), but as soon as I heard it, I knew that I had just experienced, in an uncomplicated way, the basic essence of the New Moon in Aries: As long as we are alive, we all have the option of beginning anew!  Yes, this is true! Too, this came over the Uranus-ruled radio! So very cool.

Mars-Uranus is also an aspect which triumphantly proclaims and celebrates our uniqueness and individuality, strong support for the “identity-seeking” Aries New Moon. So, let’s start (Aries) something spectacular and grand today with our lives. Make the mighty contribution that only we alone can make. The New Moon’s opposition to “form-builder” Saturn also ensures that, if we are “serious” (Saturn) about creating new beginnings, we can do it!

“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” C.S. Lewis

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It’s the transition that’s troublesome.” Isaac Asimov.

This is the last day for energizer Mars in watery, reflective Pisces (enters Aries, the sign of its rulership, 12:51 am EDT Sat.) Also, this is the last full day for the emotional Moon in Pisces, as it also shifts into fiery, enterprising Aries tomorrow (7:17 am EDT), a time when the “pace of life” could dramatically quicken for many of us. The Moon and Mars will be joining the Sun, Mercury, Jupiter and Uranus in Aries.

Also, whenever Mars changes signs, we always want to pay closer attention to events in the world, as Mars can signal pivotal changes for the matters associated with the zodiacal sign it is entering (Mars provides momentum). For instance, when Mars entered Pisces this last time on February 23rd, is when oil prices suddenly started to surge. Pisces rules oil. Aries is more “confronting-type” energy associated with conflict and war (rules the military and law enforcement). Aries also rules adventure, record-setting and pioneering new territory. It additionally governs athletes and sports.

Too, we have a New Moon in Aries on Sunday, with New Moons signifying “new beginnings” and with it occurring in Aries, the official sign of “new beginnings,” we are effectively getting a “double-whammy” here. Assertive Mars will also be conjuncting unpredictable, wild card Uranus in Aries on Saturday, a planet also known for liberation and discovery, which is a good fit for the similar Aries-type energy it is deposited in.

Needless to say, today we are on the brink of a very highly-charged energy pattern, perhaps the most intense of the year. Aries is all about initiating action and propelling ourselves and our world forward, often at warp speed.

Today, we may want to use this “transitional” Piscean energy to make sure that we have all of our players ready for bat and have a clear idea of how we want to pitch this new Aries ballgame. In line with this, we will want to be putting the finishing touches on our intentions now to be released at the Aries New Moon this weekend.

“You don’t save a pitcher for tomorrow. Tomorrow it may rain.” Leo Durocher

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Be willing to be a beginner every single morning.” Meister Eckhart

Today is the “spring equinox.” The official start of the astrological “new year,” when the Sun ingresses into “Aries the Ram,” the sign of new beginnings (7:21 pm EDT). In astrology, the “empowering” Sun symbolically represents our “core” or “center” around which everything else revolves. It is our deep “sense of self.”

The keywords for Aries are “I am.” On a personal level, this sign is all about discovering who we are as distinct creatures apart from the pack. It’s about reveling being in our own skin. Excitedly making our humble, unique contribution to the planet.

The Sun joins Mercury (thinking), Jupiter (opportunity), and Uranus (genius) already stationed in Aries. Too, almost as soon as the Sun enters Aries it conjuncts “awakening” Uranus (tomorrow), the electrifying “poster child” for change and innovation.

“Liberating” Uranus also rules aviation and the very last time we had the Sun nearing Uranus at the early part of “pioneering” Aries, back on March 21, 1928, is when aviator Charles Lindbergh was presented his “Medal of Honor” for his first trans-Atlantic flight. When we think of how aviation has drastically altered (Uranus) civilization on this planet, “freed us up” in many ways, we can glean a fresh awareness of the unlimited possibilities that exist before us, both individually and collectively, with this game-changing, (Uranus in Aries) inventive energy at our disposal. Uranus, of course, also rules technology. Too, most of the time, the only real limits that we ever face are the “self-limiting beliefs” that we impose upon ourselves.

“The real gold is what you are.” Alan Cohen

“If we long to believe that the stars rise and set for us, that we are the reason there is a Universe, does science do us a disservice in deflecting our conceits?” Carl Sagan.

MARS IN PISCES

“How much has to be explored and discarded before reaching the naked flesh of feeling?” Claude Debussy

On February 22nd, Mars, symbolizing the aggressive urge, dives into emotional Pisces (8:06 pm EST), where it will, no doubt, try to make a big splash over the next six weeks. It is characteristically the nature of Mars to “stir things up,” as he represents our physical energy and ignites our passions, although when he is submerged underwater in Pisces, much of his “fire” is put out.

But, lest we get fooled by warrior Mars here, he can still be a barracuda! But, generally, he prefers to avoid direct confrontation in Pisces, if at all possible. Mars in Pisces also tends more toward passive aggressive behavior, or misplaced aggression.

However, with all that said, this time around, we still do have a lot of fiery “martian” energy at our disposal now, because expansive Jupiter is deposited in potent Mars-ruled Aries, actually in mutual reception with Mars, as Jupiter co-rules Pisces. Too, Jupiter is, and has been for the last few weeks, in a powerful square to obsessive Pluto (exact on Friday) which can make us more bent on pursuing unrestricted, “new beginnings” (Aries) with a heated fervor.

Too, Aries is associated with war and revolution, and we have witnessed all the unrest, demonstrations, and standoffs in the world the past few weeks. Mars has also been boldly empowering group expression in “power to the people” Aquarius. Also, rebellious Uranus is poised to enter Aries on March 11th for a seven-year stay, so the political landscape could very well continue to change in many nations during this time period. Freedom-loving Uranus in Aries will likely coincide with continued uprisings by individuals on a pioneering, self-developing quest to “do their own thing” (Uranus). Aries is more of a fearless sign, also it’s very impulsive and often acts way too hasty without giving enough thought to the consequences of its actions.

It is interesting, too, that with the opportunistic Jupiter square tyrannical Pluto, almost exact to the dot now, Libya’s long-time despotic ruler (Pluto), Muammar Qaddafi, may finally be ousted in wake of the mass revolt. Sadly, we have also seen many tragic massacres in Libya the last few days as the planets have moved into Pisces, which is more associated with persecution.

Too, it is wise to always note whenever Mars changes zodiacal signs. It is at those times when Mars enters a new sign that we often collectively see very notable or pivotal things occurring with respect to “Mars-ruled” matters: aggression, war, adventurous new beginnings, discoveries or breakthroughs.  Then, of course, we need to add the elements or things associated with the sign that Mars is going through.

Pisces, for example, rules the sea and oil. Oil is spiking upwards due to the unrest in the Middle East. We may all want to keep a very close eye on oil with volatile Mars moving into Pisces. When Chiron entered Pisces last year was the very day we had the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Mars will also be exactly conjunct Chiron on February 24th (the energy is already applying), so this could be a critical time period for the planet.  BTW, it was reported yesterday that BP reached a 7.2 billion dollar oil and gas deal with India on Monday.

Too, as I am writing this, a seemingly big news story is unfolding about the Suez Canal. Reportedly Iranian Naval Vessels have entered the canal. Warrior Mars in Pisces could, unfortunately, symbolize hostile conditions at sea, or around water.

News Update: It was also reported today that the four Americans taken hostage by Somali pirates a few days ago off East Africa were shot and killed today by their captors. (The Americans were first taken hostage with the Mercury-Mars-Neptune triple conjunction a few days ago.)

On a more uplifting note, we also have the Academy Awards on Sunday and Pisces rules films and acting.

Mars in Pisces is indeed a very imaginative placement for the “red planet,” if not the most creative place for it. Mars here often has a deep passion and talent for art, music, dancing, acting, film, photography. For example, Elton John, an Aries, who we mentioned the other day as someone with Mercury in Pisces, also has his Mars in Pisces.

Too, there is usually a greater desire for retreat and seclusion from the world with Mars in Pisces, as a way of recharging our batteries. Mars in retiring Pisces also normally denotes more of an affinity for mystical or spiritual pursuits, and can also give a gift for healing. Many people in the healing field have a notable presence of Pisces planets (or a strong Neptune) in their horoscopes.

Romantically, Mars in Pisces tends to be fantasy-driven and very sensual, so we will definitely want to clear our calendars to make sure that we do have plenty of time for steamy, nocturnal pastimes. 🙂

The shadow side of Mars in Pisces:  There can be indecisiveness, disillusionment, extremism (especially religious fanaticism). Too much of an immersion into fantasy or idealism. Also, Pisces is linked with drug and alcohol abuse. Of course, there is also more opportunity for deception, or simply more chance for weird, nebulous things to happen (due to Mars being in Neptune’s “spacey” home turf). Pisces also rules private sects and cults. Also, there may be more of a willingness to voluntarily play the “victim” or “martyr” role.

Too, with Pisces being more of a “selfless” or “ego-denying” sign, we ideally progress now by doing more for others than for ourselves, especially more for persons who are downtrodden, disabled, or down on their luck for whatever reason. Mars in Pisces can be very compassionate and charitable. We also have the Sun, Mercury, Uranus, and Chiron in Pisces now, so we have a notable Pisces vibration going on. Invisible energy that is hopefully imploring us to remember to kindly give each other a helping hand, or a comforting shoulder to cry on. The Pisces energy perennially sensitizes us to other people’s pain and struggle. We become more acutely aware of the fragility of life and the fleetingness, or even desperateness, of the human condition.

“Compassion is not religious business, it is human business, it is not luxury, it is essential for our own peace and mental stability, it is essential for human survival.” Dalai Lama

“Sweet baby” James is a Pisces. He’s a perfect template for all of the more noble, magical qualities of the sign, isn’t he? Love him.

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Ego has a voracious appetite. The more you feed it, the hungrier it gets.” Nathaniel Bronner Jr.

The nocturnal Moon shifts from nesting Cancer to big hair Leo (4:15 am). We long to hear the sound of applause and are eager to graciously take our bows on stage. The entertaining Leo Moon always desires a good measure of ego-stroking and self-glorification and is willing to “sing for its supper” in order to realize these things. Leo is the zodiacal sign that rules our talent and gifts.

The Moon’s dynamic trine to fortuitous Jupiter in new beginnings Aries (12:31 pm) also ideally helps to boost our creativity and optimism. Doors could suddenly open up for us with this aspect. We may want to maximize our exposure then and plant hopeful seeds of golden Leo opportunity.

We may, however, want to guard against being too controlling and dark when the Moon forms a funky quincunx to despot Pluto (3:28 pm). Too, we still have the volatile Sun conjunct Mars aspect which can unleash our aggressive urge. On the plus side, though, this same aspect can make us courageous.

“All great lovers are articulate, and verbal seduction is the surest road to actual seduction.” Marya Mannes

COSMIC WEATHER:

The chatty Gemini Moon gives us a desire to “verbalize our ideas.”  This is amplified even more so today with messenger Mercury, Gemini’s ruler, forming a semi-square to “do-your-own-thing” Uranus. An influence that characteristically makes us more inclined to put forward our “personal brand.” Also, assertive Mars in idealistic Aquarius is forming a semi-square to controlling Pluto, which adds to our level of intensity and passion. The shadow side of this Mars-Pluto aspect could make us somewhat more confrontational or manipulative (Pluto). Or, encounter persons who act in this manner.

Too, the powering Sun and energizing Mars continue in their tight conjunction in “group-oriented” Aquarius, a very potent aspect that is associated with risk-tasking and adventure. This energy has been in affect for the entire duration of the “people’s revolution” in Egypt the last two and a half weeks. Sun-Mars tends to “fire us up,” stoking our self-confidence and also making us much more willing to “do combat” for whatever we believe in, as Mars rules the aggressive urge, and also the urge for survival. Mars in Aquarius, too, energizes “group expression.”

Historically, with Sun-Mars conjunctions we typically have seen major new beginnings ushered in due to the “pioneering nature” of Mars. The Sun also represents world leaders and authority figures. I personally thought it was fascinating, too, that President Mubarak finally left office with the Moon in steadfast Taurus applying to an exact square to “dissolving, ego-denying” Neptune.

The Taurus Moon is known for “holding on forever,” but this ended up not being an option for Mubarak, in face of all the Aquarian (change-oriented) planets now, including the dynamic Sun-Mars conjunction, and also the Moon’s square to “surrendering” Neptune. Neptune rules the “urge for escape” or “withdrawal.” We often feel weakened with this influence and able to see the “handwriting on the wall.” Anyway, very happy for the people of Egypt. It will be interesting to see what happens next. Hopefully, it will be a positive new chapter for that country.

Additionally, today’s energetic Gemini Moon is good for fact-finding and gathering information, teaching, writing, short trips, and active pursuits. Too, love goddess Venus is still in alignment with passionate Pluto and with Valentine’s Day coming up on Monday, it could be that we want to get an early jump on it with our honey tonight. Since I am presently “unattached,” I went to the local Oreck vacuum store on Friday and purchased $53.00 worth of vacuum bags. So, I’m all set. Also, had my vacuum annually-serviced. What a thrill! I even was treated to an in-store demonstration of the “orbiter” carpet cleaner while I was there. Totally awesome. Was completely blown away by its’ stain-removing abilities. 🙂

“We have it in our power to begin the world over again.” Thomas Paine

Most of us may already know the standard  “New Moon” drill: New Moons signify “new beginnings.” A New Moon occurs when the Moon, in its monthly orbit around Earth, lies between the Earth and Sun, and is therefore “in conjunction” with the Sun as viewed from Earth.

The New Moon on February 2nd at 13 degrees of “liberating” Aquarius (9:31 pm EST) is more powerful than the norm because it conjoins “initiator” Mars, ruler of the aggressive urge. This could propel us into more of a “manic” phase, or launch at warp speed. A “do, do, do” mode. Mars represents the physical energy in the body. A caution here is that we don’t overtax or overburden our systems, or lose our tempers. Anger management may be very wise now for all of us. Remember, too, that expansive Jupiter is in Mars-ruled Aries which can also raise up our activity level, as we scurry about conquering new horizons. Aries is very pioneering and does not want to be restrained. Neither does this New Moon in Aquarius.

Also we may be tempted to take a walk on the “wild side” now because beatnik Aquarius can be somewhat of a rules-breaker, and is prone to experimentation. Additionally, during this lunation, “love child” Venus in “spontaneous” Sagittarius is forming an exact square to electrifying Uranus, the ruler of Aquarius, in “spaced out” Pisces. With Venus-Uranus, we are looking for more “freedom of expression” in our intimate encounters and also in our social life. A good time to maybe radically spice things up in the bedroom. We are also able to accept or tolerate, or may even become entwined with people who are vastly different than ourselves. This, too, is partly because we are much more bored with the tried-and-true, and restless for excitement.

Also, connector Venus is simultaneously trine to fantasy Neptune, giving us no shortage of phantom lovers to help us make it through the New Moon night. Whether that perfect specimen of a man, George Clooney, will be among this fanciful procession, remains to be seen. We can only hope and fervently pray that this is the case. 🙂 Neptune represents creative types of people: dancers, writers, actors, singers, painters, etc. So Venusian alliances could pop up with these types of folks.

The New Moon in Aquarius also forms a harmonious trine to ambitious Saturn in “Beatles hold my hand” Libra. Not only are we pumped up to begin our lives anew, to take charge and make our defining mark (Mars), we also have the blessing of paternalistic Saturn, who is helping us to adroitly organize our affairs with precision and self-discipline so we can mightily ascend that exciting ladder of success. This trine to Saturn is big. Very big. No reason now why we can’t score that little house on the prairie with the white picket fence.

Too, even though a New Moon conjunct Mars can be fully self-absorbed, the trine to Saturn in relationship-building Libra suggests that we progress the most now by including others somehow into the cryptic equation. Busy little love goddess Venus is also pointing to the same thing. This is not a time for us to be an island. We want our personal freedom, yes, but we also are more inclined to be around other people now. With perhaps a marked preference for “new” other people who are unusual types. Also, Aquarius rules team orientation. This could be a key time to assume a leadership role in a group setting. Additionally, a wonderful time to immerse ourselves in positive, humanitarian causes for the collective. Our efforts can make a difference now!

“Individual commitment to a group effort – that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.” Vince Lombardi.

“What we call the beginning is often the end. And to make an end is to make a beginning. The end is where we start from.” T.S. Eliot

“Once an organization loses its spirit of pioneering and rests on its early work, its progress stops.” Thomas J. Watson Sr.

The “big planet on the block” Jupiter, bolts back into fiery “Aries the Ram,” the first sign of the zodiac, on January 22nd, where it will take up residency until June 4th. (Jupiter was briefly in this sign earlier, from June 6th – Sept. 8th, 2010.)

Jupiter signifies the “expansive urge.” He represents knowledge, opportunities, abundance, higher education. He also rules publishing, travel abroad, foreign cultures, advertising and promotion. He’s the welcome “luck factor” in our lives. When Jupiter’s nestled into “trailblazing” Aries, which is ruled by masculine Mars, we are eager for “new beginnings.” Especially in partaking in “solo flights” on our own, in keeping with the pioneering, “self-discovery” aspect of this sign.

With Jupiter in Aries, we have marvelous ability to re-invent ourselves and we thrive at the prospect of competition, and making it first to the finish line. Aries is the zodiacal sign that rules sports and athletics. Whereas Jupiter in Pisces was about “merging” and the “dissolution of boundaries,” Jupiter in Aries denotes more of a separatist, “me-first” mentality. There is much more enthusiasm and self-confidence to us, with this placement, and consequently that is part of the reason why new doors can open up for us now. Also, in March, “liberator” Uranus will be moving back into Aries where it will stay for the next seven years, which will further add to our ability to thrive and survive on our own, and be self-sufficient

With Jupiter in Aries (also Uranus), we will likely see a proliferation of entrepreneurship, fueled by a strong desire to “do things on our own.” Too, the challenging economy will continue to have impact here with this. There will also likely be growth or expansion in the military. Individuals may even feel more of a need to “protect” or “arm” themselves, with groups of individuals forming their own militia. Again, the “warrior” Mars influence at play. With Jupiter also ruling publishing, it is very likely that “self-publishing” efforts will continue to grow and flourish, perhaps even more “blogging” by businesses being done as a way to attract new customers.

To further discern Jupiter’s impact in our own personal horoscopes, we will want to see what house in our chart Jupiter is transiting, as an indication of what area in our life may be poised for “new starts.”

The “shadow side” to Jupiter in Aries can correlate with a “lack of focus.” For example, it’s very easy for us, in our Aries’ eagerness, to take on too many projects and, as a result, have a difficult time bringing matters to a successful, timely conclusion. Also, we can act too hastily or be impulsive. Or, be “too full of ourselves” and not consider others’ positions.

Famous persons with Jupiter in Aries: Christian Dior, Pearl Buck, Conan O’Brien, Brad Pitt.
