COSMIC WATCH

“Action conquers fear.” Peter Nivio Zarlenga

The Moon’s ingress into pioneering Aries (4:24 am) stokes our desire for new adventures. Luna’s conjunction with change-agent Uranus (1:24 pm) also acts to propel us into the future and potentially provides us with more of a platform to “do our own thing,” which the Aries Moon is already very receptive to doing.

“Loose cannon” Uranus is associated with individuality and non-conformity. It encourages us not to render cookie-cutter responses, so this alignment can be very refreshing and rejuvenating, especially if we are willing to be true to our authentic selves.

Later on, some possible resistance to our plans in the guise of the Moon’s square to controlling Pluto (5:08 pm) in authoritative Capricorn. This may be a good time to go inside ourselves and examine our behavior and see if there is perhaps something outworn in us that we can purge (Pluto) that will ideally add to our sense of agency or power. Moon-Pluto is thought to be a very effective cathartic/healing agent.

Hope it’s a good one!

Astrology June 22, 2011: Mars Squares Fishy Neptune, Afghanistan Withdrawal

COSMIC WATCH:

“The gift of fantasy has meant more to me than my talent for absorbing positive knowledge.” – Albert Einstein.

Fantasy Neptune, ruler of our imagination and also the urge for escape, is captaining our ‘good ship lollipop’ today in oceanic Pisces. This is because not only do we have a Neptune-ruled, dreamy Pisces Moon all day, we also have the Sun in nesting Cancer trining inspirational Neptune. And energizer Mars in idea Gemini is squaring Neptune.

With Neptune’s illusory ray so prominent now it is possibly easier for us to go adrift, so we may need to be extra mindful about holding ourselves accountable with respect to whatever it is that we want to accomplish. Although, at the same time, it may also be wise for us not to stack too much on our plates. Especially work that calls for strict attention to details or facts and figures.

Too, we have the Pisces Moon void of course all day, so it is likely best to stick with old projects instead of undertaking anything new. We also are encouraged to focus our energies on more creative venues (film, photography, painting, dance, poetry). Immersion in more spiritual or mystical pursuits also serves us well now as Neptune is our portal to Divine forces.

Also, if something seems a little fishy to us today, chances are good that it is and we may need to arm ourselves with a healthy dose of skepticism! Neptune, on the shadow side, characteristically has a way of pulling the proverbial wool over our eyes. It is often regarded as the planet formally linked with deception, either self-deception or deception from others (con men). It is also frequently paired with scandal or plain weird incidents in general (especially the Mars square Neptune aspect). Often the kind of strange stuff that we hear about, that has us scratching our heads, wondering what in the world a person was thinking? Neptune’s classic calling card, on the shadow side. 🙂

In the News: President Obama is reportedly planning on addressing the nation tonight from the White House to discuss his plan for the withdrawal of armed forces from Afghanistan.

Astrologically, we have Mars, governing war and the military, exactly square to Neptune which could be viewed to act as a dissolving agent (diminishing the troop strength, in this instance). Neptune is, in fact, known as the “Great Dissolver.”

Neptune’s ray also sometimes seems to figure more prominently in historic peace efforts and treaty signings, reflective perhaps of Neptune’s overriding desire for “oneness,” or for a unified world “without division.”

On the flip side, Mars-Neptune sometimes rachets up our sensitivities potentially climaxing in a desire to avoid the harsher/coarser realities of life at all costs. Of course, engaging in this type of avoidance or denial type behavior could backfire on us if we are not careful.

One more thing, on a lighter note. Gotta’ love this “fishy” Neptunian headline in the news today: “Chinese Find 55-foot sea monster!” Reportedly, the “sea monster” washed up on a beach in Guangdong, China. It’s decaying body weighed in at 4.5 tons. Unfortunately, the decomposition was too advanced to ID the remains.

Enjoy your Wednesday!

COSMIC WATCH:

“Life is the hyphen between matter and spirit.” – Augustus William Hare and Julius Charles Hare from “Guesses at Truth, by Two Brothers” (1827)

There’s a Full Moon/Total Lunar Eclipse in visionary Sagittarius today (4:14 pm), the sign of the hopeful archer. Sagittarius governs our beliefs and personal philosophy of life and also rules long-distance travel, the law, clergy, and higher education.

This eclipse is occurring at 24 degrees of Sagittarius, smack near the Galactic Center! A Full Moon Eclipse is a time of potent release when we empty out our stale contents. It is also a time for wondrous reflection and illumination.

Eclipses often speed up events and can usher in fateful changes that permanently alter the landscape around us; their influence is said to last up to six months.

Whatever house this eclipse is falling in today, in our charts, is where we are presently engaged in a search for more meaning and where we may be needing to tweak, dismantle, or defend some of our beliefs.

With bow and arrow carefully in tow, we aim to hunt for the higher meaning that we know is purposefully nestled within.

Our gaze is ardently fixed upon the starry firmament above, meticulously scanning for any directional clues that we pray will point the way to our very own, internal cluster of brightly lit constellations, that we sense are all merrily a twinkle now, as they expectantly and eagerly await our joyous arrival on this magical eclipse day.

Happy Eclipse Blessings!

Astrology May 17, 2011: Full Moon in “Hidden” Scorpio

“Life has its own hidden forces which you can only discover by living.” – Soren Kierkegaard

There’s a Full Moon at 26 degrees of Scorpio today (7:10 am EDT). A Full Moon represents a culmination or peaking of awareness. We are often more privy to revelations, at this time, as we have more light by which to see. The volume on our emotional responses (Moon) may also be turned up.

Scorpio, as a quality of experience, is associated with intensity of expression, and also extremes of behavior; it is a more complex sign to figure out. The natural ruler of Scorpio is Pluto, which is known for its’ laser-like focus. When the Moon is in Scorpio, there is a greater depth of feeling and passion, and consequently we tend to react more powerfully to matters. Unfortunately, emotional outbursts can also manifest, if we are not careful to rein ourselves in.

The Scorpio Moon additionally likes power and being in charge, which means on the shadow side, we often need to simultaneously subdue our feelings of control or manipulation. Jealousy and possessiveness are also two other issues that many of us characteristically wrestle with when the Moon is deposited here.

Scorpio as a zodiacal sign stands guard over those areas of life that are normally hidden from view, such as our mind’s subconscious. It also governs intimacy and sex. Scorpio, as the opposite sign to money and possession Taurus, additionally depicts our attitudes concerning the sharing of our material resources with others, and is related to such mundane things as joint bank accounts and jointly held possessions.

Since Scorpio presides over death (or the dissolution of form) and rebirth, it is connected to insurance and estate matters. It also rules taxes, surgery, and regenerative healing techniques. Scorpio is furthermore linked to psychic development, channeling, and the spirit world, and to metaphysical matters in general. Its intrinsic approach is always to “go deep” and ponder mysteries wherever they may be found.

With the Full Moon falling in Scorpio, it could be that some or many of the areas above may be more highlighted now. We are also more likely to be in touch with our deepest, most passionate desires or innermost feelings at this time. We may also have to address issues from our buried past. Or possibly face the truth about things that we may have been avoiding. Again, too, the Scorpio Full Moon can easily solicit overreactions from us, especially if we are not mindful of our behavior.

Too, the Full Moon now could mark transitions or endings, or pivotal turning points. This Scorpio Full Moon is also making a challenging square to vague, dissolving Neptune in surrendering Pisces. It is additionally forming a tight quincunx (adjustment aspect) to excessive, boastful Jupiter in impulsive Aries, cautioning us not to go overboard or gamble unwisely with our resources.

Also, with Neptune’s veiled ray on the scene, we may need to guard against being hoodwinked or misled by others. We also would be wise, ourselves, to avoid doing anything that is nefarious or deceitful. Sometimes, too, with Neptune, we unwittingly lead others on by not being in full possession of all the facts. We simply spew out misinformation or just perceive things in a distorted way.

On a more positive note, this lunation still finds Mercury and Venus side by side in gentle, laid-back Taurus, and both in a harmonious, compassionate sextile to imaginative Neptune. Taking the time to put into words, our deep love and affection for each other, and engaging in random acts of love and kindness can have uplifting consequences for us all now. Also, this aspect is excellent for creating or purchasing art or other objects of beauty, including adding a few “to die for” items to our wardrobe.

Too, with the rejuvenating properties of the Scorpio Moon also involved, now would likely be an ideal time for age-defying beauty treatments or makeovers. Neptune also rules cosmetics, and all manner of masquerade and disguises. It is interesting, too, how when we do alter our outward appearance, we often are related to differently.  In other words, it sets the stage for transforming responses from others.

COSMIC WEATHER:

“I would rather live in a world where my life is surrounded by mystery than live in a world so small that my mind could comprehend it.” – Harry Emerson Fosdick

It could be that we are feeling more of a sense of “mystery and awe” today, as the reflective Pisces Moon forms a sextile aspect to enigmatic Pluto (9:45 am EDT), the transforming purveyor of life’s many secrets. With Moon-Pluto, we tend to want to go “deep within,” in our noble quest for relevance and higher meaning. This aspect also potentially holds a strong reservoir of healing energy.

Too, with Pisces ruling water, we may want to indulge in a spa treatment, perhaps steam therapy, for removing toxins from our bodies. Pluto rules both toxins and the process of elimination.

Also, we could probably use this same Moon-Pluto energy to do some revamping of our home or office decor, even if we only move a few things around. Sometimes simply moving objects in our environment has the net effect of freeing up stuck energy.

NEWS UPDATE: The famous “missing cobra” from the New York Bronz Zoo was found safe and alive today at the zoo just as the Moon was forming a harmonious sextile to “Detective Clouseau” Pluto; Pluto rules snakes. Too, whenever Pluto’s ray is activated, we tend to find out about things that have been previously hidden; Pluto is associated with ferreting out secrets. The snake had been missing for a few days.

COSMIC WEATHER:

“I believe that being successful means having a balance of success stories across the many areas of your life. You can’t truly be considered successful in your business if your home life is in shambles.” – Zig Ziglar

We have a potentially highly charged day today with expander Jupiter in pioneering Aries forming an exact opposition to contracting Saturn (5:56 pm) in evaluating Libra. The illuminating Sun is also in start me up Aries and exactly square to transformer Pluto (8:09 am) in ambitious Capricorn. The Moon also enters futuristic, discerning Aquarius (7:01 am).

Five of the planets are now in the action-packed cardinal signs (Aries, Libra, Capricorn), moving towards the steroidal New Moon in Aries on April 3rd, when we will have five planets in Aries and a total of eight planets in the active cardinal signs. With all this energy building up we are potentially likely to be feeling more physically and mentally restless in the days ahead, or very anxious/eager for new beginnings.

Today could be both a time of revelations and also a day of reckoning when we are able to glean fresh insight into how we are balancing and managing the various affairs of our lives (Jupiter opposite Saturn). We also may become much more aware of the scope of work that we still need to do to get our lives in better order. Also, this is most likely a time when we are going to be held accountable (Saturn) for our previous actions and decisions.

With Sun-Pluto there can possibly be a toppling of expectations that may find us having to retool our plans. We also may want to avoid ego disputes.

daily astrology, divine compassion, fantasy, idealism, romance, romantic delusion, sensitivity

(Below is an edited, re-posting of a blog that I wrote last year on Venus in Pisces.)

Cosmic Weather:

“Intense love does not measure. It just gives.” – Mother Teresa

Relationship planet Venus slips into dreamy, mystical Pisces on March 27, 2011 (at 2:53 am EDT), where she stays until April 21, 2011.  Venus represents our urge for love.  It shows us what we are passionate about, what we value.  Her passage through the twelve signs of the zodiac gives us an insightful glimpse into our ever-changing passions and values.

Venus’ love expression is exalted in Neptune-ruled Pisces.  Here she finds herself capable of unconditional love and divine compassion. With idealistic Neptune as her mentor, Venus in Pisces can be quite spiritual, and hopeful.  She wants to believe the very best of people. She characteristically gives her heart away without thought of what she’s going to get in return.

Neptune also rules the creative urge, so natural artist, Venus in Pisces, can be very romantic, and dream up all kinds of imaginative ways to express herself here. She is especially fond of self-expression through poetry, music, dance, photography, and art.

Venus in Pisces does have a soft spot, some might even refer to it as a “blind spot,” for falling for types “who need rescuing.” More fragile types are naturally attracted to Venus in Pisces because of the warmth and caring that she magically exudes.

Because Neptune also signifies illusion and fantasy,Venus in Pisces tends to idolize or glamorize others, instead of seeing people as they are. Venus in Pisces also longs for total submergence into a relationship. Neptune’s Venus wants to be romantically swept off her feet and to give herself entirely. She does not want any boundaries coming between her and the object of her affection (Neptune is known as the “Great Dissolver”). Of course, when we do seek total immersion in a love relationship, there can be some hazards, including potentially a loss of our own identity.

“Make me immortal with a kiss.” – Christopher Marlowe

In the event a love relationship does not pan out, Venus in Pisces can become very disillusioned and disheartened.  Her heightened sensitivity also makes dealing with the pain of a break-up or rejection, that much harder. Unfortunately, she often blames herself for any failures in a relationship.  Even if someone treated her disrespectfully, she may still have that person on a pedestal. Again, it’s about that tendency to not want to see others as they are.  It’s a reflection of Neptune’s intrinsic nature to want to look at relationships through rose-colored glasses. Also, it’s part of the “serve or suffer” Pisces martyr-complex that many of us are all too familiar with.

So, in summary, with Venus’ passage through softening, sympathetic Pisces, the next few weeks, what we may find is that we are acting with more of a tender-heart now, perhaps more able to graciously accept others on an emotional level. Also, perhaps more in tune with others’ needs. Too, we may be more inclined to let down our emotional guards a bit more, which could be a very good thing if it results in forging more healthy, positive connections.

On the shadow side again, we will not want to delude ourselves into seeing things in a relationship, that are not really there. Of course, this tendency is always a risk in the realm of romance, but especially now with Venus tucked away in more vulnerable, wishful Pisces. Too, we may want to make sure that we hold other people accountable for their words and actions now. Make them “walk their talk” before giving our hopeful hearts away.

Venus in Pisces Keywords: gentle, romantic, tends to fantasize, idolize, intuitive, affectionate, seductive, sentimental,  compassionate, sensitive, empathetic, sympathetic, vulnerable, gullible, moody, self-negating, self-defeating, impressionable, artistic, creative.

Famous persons with Venus in Pisces: Actor John Travolta, Poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Pianist Arthur Rubenstein, Civil Rights Leader Martin Luther King, Jr., and Psychic Edgar Cayce.

Thinker Mercury squares intense Pluto today (12:30 pm EST). A potentially empowering time to dig deep within ourselves and “unclog” our thought pipes of mental garbage that is muddying up our perceptions. It could be, too, that in the process of dredging away, we unearth some rare, precious jewels inside.

Astrology March 1, 2011: Venus Sextiles Uranus and enters Aquarius

daily astrology, decorating, fashion, Moon in Aquarius, Moon in Capricorn, nontraditional relationships, romance, sudden love, Venus sextile Uranus

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Variety is the soul of pleasure.” – Aphra Behn

Love goddess Venus, signifying what gives us pleasure, pairs up with liberating Uranus via the sextile aspect (9:49 am); we also have a double whammy going on here because, later in the day, Venus exits practical Capricorn for avant-garde Aquarius (9:39 pm), the philanthropic sign of friendships that is also ruled by the planet Uranus. Venus will stay in Aquarius until March 27th.

Venus in electrifying Aquarius can make our love desires more unconventional or non-traditional. We may strike up alliances with persons we normally would not get involved with, in our enthusiastic quest to seek out more unusual interests or pastimes. We may also desire more personal freedom within the love arena. Aquarius characteristically likes to do its own thing. Of course, doing that can also sometimes come with a hefty cost, where matters of the heart are concerned. Something that we may want to keep in mind now, as we are tempted to walk more on the wild side.

Too, with Venus in hi-tech Aquarius, romance may take shape for some of us over the internet this month. Anyone here ever had any luck with internet dating? If not, now may be the time to bravely try it out again.

Must also mention here, lest I be remiss, that Venus sextile Uranus has been linked with sudden love or love at first sight. So, the next 24 to 48 hours could be especially momentous here for those of us seeking a new love interest. Even existing relationships could become more exciting, if we are willing to spice things up just a bit.

Venus in Aquarius is also a better time for us to get unstuck in love, to let go of ties that are outworn. This is partly because it is theoretically easier for us to be more emotionally detached now, as Aquarius is more intellectual or reasoning in its approach. Also, it’s an excellent period for more involvement in community or humanitarian affairs. Venus in Aquarius can equate to a love or fondness for groups. Love could also suddenly bloom or manifest in the course of pursuing group-oriented outlets.

Venus additionally rules money, fashion, and possessions. It could be that Venus in Aquarius coincides with new, more unique ways to generate cash flow. Aquarius is associated with using our ingenuity to get ahead. We may also want to jazz up our wardrobe or our immediate surroundings in funky new ways. Too, doing these things can sometimes help us to espouse other changes in our life, as it shows more of a receptivity and eagerness for experimentation. The color for Aquarius is a shimmering, electric blue.

Additionally, we have the Moon in futuristic Aquarius today. Again, breaking with our daily routine, or incorporating new changes or procedures now can be exciting and also help to maximize our efficiency. It’s an ideal day for immersion in social media, technology, innovation, or science (all Uranus-ruled). Astrology is also governed by Uranus. So, you are probably off to a good start with your day by reading this heavenly horoscope. 🙂

MARS IN PISCES

“How much has to be explored and discarded before reaching the naked flesh of feeling?” Claude Debussy

Energizer Mars dives into emotional Pisces tonight (8:06 pm EST), where it will, no doubt, try to make a big splash over the next six weeks.

It is characteristically the nature of Mars to “stir things up,” as it represents our physical energy and ignites our passions – although when he is submerged underwater in Pisces, much of his “fire” is put out.

Mars in Pisces is also thought to be linked with passive aggressive behavior, or misplaced aggression.

But lest we get fooled by warrior Mars here, he can still be a barracuda!

Too, it is wise to always note whenever Mars changes zodiacal signs. It is at those times when Mars enters a new sign that we often collectively see very notable or pivotal things occurring with respect to “Mars-ruled” matters: aggression, war, adventurous new beginnings, discoveries or breakthroughs.  We also have to take into consideration the zodiacal sign that Mars is moving through.

Pisces, for example, rules the sea and oil; oil has also been spiking upwards due to the unrest in the Middle East. We may all want to keep a close eye on oil with volatile Mars moving into Pisces. (When Chiron entered Pisces last year was the very day we had the BP Oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.)

Mars in Pisces is also potentially a very imaginative/creative placement for the “red planet” including possible talent for art, music, dancing, acting, film and photography. Too, there may be a greater desire now for spiritual retreat/temporary seclusion from the world as a way of recharging our batteries.

Romantically, Mars in Pisces tends to be fantasy-driven and very sensual, so we will definitely want to clear our calendars to make sure that we do have plenty of time for nocturnal pastimes. 🙂

The shadow side of Mars in Pisces:  There can be indecisiveness, disillusionment, extremism (including religious fanaticism). Or too much of an immersion into fantasy or idealism.

Too, with Pisces being more of a selfless/ ego-denying sign, we ideally progress now by doing more for others than for ourselves, especially more for persons who are downtrodden, disabled, or down on their luck for whatever reason.

“Compassion is not religious business, it is human business, it is not luxury, it is essential for our own peace and mental stability, it is essential for human survival.” Dalai Lama
