“You ought to be able to explain why you’re taking the job you’re taking, why you’re making the investment you’re making, or whatever it may be.  And if it can’t stand applying pencil to paper, you’d better think it through some more.  And if you can’t write an intelligent answer to those questions, don’t do it.” Warren Buffet.

Billionaire Warren Buffet, an analytical Virgo, has his Mental Mercury in Balancing Libra in a tight square to “Show Me The Money” Saturn, in Achievement Capricorn, the sign of the goat, which Saturn also rules. This influence gives him a tendency to want to weigh everything very carefully, characteristically checking ideas and plans for their level of utility, before rendering a decision or verdict, or embarking on a particular course of action. Saturn signifies both “responsibility” and “the practical urge.” With Mercury-Saturn, we know to be “fully accountable” for our thoughts and ideas.

Buffett’s more “pragmatic orientation” is also a good preview of the general mindset that we can expect to adopt with Mental Mercury entering Saturn’s Utilitarian Capricorn, November 30th through December 18th. (Mercury enters Capricorn at 7:11 pm EST on Nov. 30th.)

Mercury signifies our thinking and communication.  It also rules transportation.

Mercury in Saturn’s native homestead is practical, cautious, focus and disciplined. Because Saturn also speaks to us of our fears, on the shadow-side, Mercury here can initially make us more fearful and worried, until we have our plans and strategies carefully in place, at which time we tend to feel more confident and in control.

Too, with “Karma Lord” Saturn’s inherent penchant for wanting to “call the shots,” Mercury in Capricorn tends to make us want to communicate in an authoritative manner. We want to be taken seriously, and want to give the impression that we know what we’re talking about. Mercury in Capricorn is also a time to evaluate, and if warranted, put into motion the futuristic ideas and inspirations we received while Mercury was stationed in Dreamer Sagittarius.

(Mercury will be retrograde December 10th through December 30th.  It will also leave Capricorn and re-enter Sagittarius on December 18th, where it will stay until January 13th of 2011, at which time it goes back into Capricorn, staying there until February 3, 2011. Mercury retrograde is a period when we review and or revise our decisions, taking action on them when Mercury once again goes direct.)

Cosmic Word Of The Day: Accelerate

(Mercury square Uranus)

Accelerate: 1) to move or go faster; increase in speed 2) to progress or develop faster

“With ‘Mental’ Mercury square to ‘Genius’ Uranus our thought processes are accelerated or speeded up today. We may receive sudden, brilliant, intuitive insights into things, and be able to solve problems and puzzles very quickly.

On the shadow side, however, this same configuration can also make us much more mentally restless, as well as hasty and rebellious in our speech and communication. Rebel Uranus tends to want to defy authority and become a law unto itself.

Additionally, we have Mercury sextile ‘Imaginative’ Neptune which bodes well for our creative and psychic abilities. A day when it is very easy to get lost in our fantasies. Too, we may also want to pay closer attention to our nocturnal dreams now which Neptune rules. They could be trying to tell us something.

Since Neptune also represents our “link with the divine” this is a good day to pray and meditate, and to read or write inspirational passages. ‘Going inward’ may also help to dispel or calm the uneven mental energy of Mercury-Uranus.”

“Hominid and human evolution took place over millions and not billions of years, but with the emergence of language there was a further acceleration of time and the rate of change.” William Irwin Thompson

“All the works of man have their origin in creative fantasy. What right have we then to depreciate imagination.” Carl Jung

Cosmic Word Of The Day: Flamboyant

(Moon in Leo)

Flamboyant: 1) strikingly bold or brilliant; showy 2) conspicuously dashing and colorful

“The Moon’s entrance into theatrical Leo (1:01 am EST) kindles within us a burning desire to be flamboyant. We’re wanting big hair. Bold colors. We’re also thinking that we maybe need to make a grand entrance at the K-Mart parking lot at 6 a.m. for holiday shopping in a long black stretch limousine. With perhaps George Clooney as our chauffeur.

“George, while we’re inside the store, do you need us to pick up anything for you, dear?  Like maybe a big screen color TV?  How about a digital camera? They got ’em both on sale now. You can also get a free toaster. 🙂

“A large part of me is pure nebbish – plain, dull, uninteresting.  There’s a more flamboyant part, too.  Obviously.” Barbra Streisand. (Barbra also has a Leo Moon.)

Saturn Trine Neptune Beatles Begin Recording Sgt Pepper 11/24

This Date In History:

November 24, 1966:

The Beatles begin recording sessions for their masterpiece eighth album: Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band which was later released on June 1, 1967. The group reportedly spent over 400 hours in the recording studio producing this one album. The BBC would later end up banning one of the songs from it, “A Day In The Life” out of reported concern over a supposed drug reference in the song, “I’d love to turn you on…”

On 11/24/66 the Moon was in fiery, pioneering Aries. Also, adding to the level of excitement that day: The illuminating Sun and Creative Venus were affectionately conjunct in storytelling Sagittarius, harmoniously trined to lucky, expansive Jupiter in showman Leo, the sign of entertainment.

Enterprising Mars, the ruler of trailblazing Aries, was in perfectionist Virgo and exactly conjunct “inventive genius” Uranus. Mars and Uranus were additionally in a close conjunction to transforming Pluto in Virgo.

So we had a cool host of intense, game-changing influences for the collective, in effect.

Ambitious Saturn, too, often billed as the “Lord of Karma,” was in Imaginative Pisces, the sign which rules music, and in an exact flowing trine to mystical, psychedelic Neptune (Neptune rules drugs).  Neptune is also the planetary ruler of Pisces. Of course, Sgt. Pepper had a very mystical, psychedelic theme to it. Drug Kingpin Neptune was also hanging out in revamping Scorpio at the time, maybe part of the reason why so many were trying to find “psychic redemption” then through mind-altering drugs.

Too, Neptune rules our dreams and fantasies, and when aligned favorably with “karma rewards king” Saturn, we often see the manifestation of our dreams (creativity) coming true. We are better able to give tangible form and shape (Saturn) to the products of our imagination (Neptune) i.e. through songwriting, poetry, painting, etc.

Traditionalist and status quo preserver Saturn in dreamy Pisces was also opposite the rebellious and personally liberating Mars, Uranus, and Pluto conjunction, delineating the general angst that was going on in the collective then among the new ‘hippie” generation for radical change and the older generation of yesteryear.  This angst was, of course, also artistically woven in a masterful way into the fabric of Sgt Pepper and even evident on the unique cover of the record album which was very original (Uranus), spacey and psychedelic (Neptune), and a likely game-changer (Pluto) for the music industry.

Communicator and Idea Guru Mercury, in “talk till you drop” Sagittarius, forms an exact square to “windbag” Jupiter in “Please, will everyone just shut up and meditate instead!” Pisces on November 25, 2010 (9:19 am EST). This can be a psychologically exasperating influence for us to have to deal with, especially if we have to be around people who are blabbermouths anyway. “Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah…”

Plus this influence is exact on Thanksgiving Day, a time when we are already traditionally holed up with long-winded relatives for hours on end with no chance for a fast escape.

Mercury in Sag wants to “seek and spread the truth” and aligned with Preacher Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius, in delusional Pisces, we tend to go way overboard in this mission, to the point of heavy-duty fanaticism and even evangelizing the goldfish. So we definitely want to make sure that we avoid a discussion of, really, any “hot-button” topics at the Thanksgiving dinner table, i.e. religion or politics, or who really should be the next Queen of England. We would probably especially be wise to steer clear from talking about Sarah Palin and the Tea Party, or the matter of Nancy Pelosi‘s hair. Or who really should have won this year’s “Dancing With the Stars.” Lest we run the risk of all manner of mayhem ensuing and pumpkin pies being tossed in our faces and turkey drumsticks turning into homestead defense missiles.

We are also still in the aftermath of Mercury’s conjunction with warrior Mars in self-righteous Sagittarius and we have already seen what has happened on the world front in North Korea with this scary influence. Mercury conjunct Mars: “Yes, I believe it’s time to start a war!  Let me just push a few buttons here. Boy this is fun!” Right.

Additionally, Mercury square grandiose Jupiter glosses over details, exaggerates, and over-promises in its predisposition to focus on the “big picture.” But, when all is said and done, at the end of the day, Mercury-Jupiter can also be “a lot of fun” and “refreshingly optimistic.” There is more of a tendency towards laughter, and maybe cracking a few funny jokes with this aspect. And, to just look at life, and appreciate it, from a more “humorous” perspective. Jupiter does rule our “sense of humor.” Jupiter is also a “great storyteller,” especially when linked up with “wordsmith”  Mercury.

“Humor is mankind’s greatest blessing.” Mark Twain

(Moon in Cancer. Moon sesquiquadrate Neptune. Moon square Saturn.)

Cocoon: 1) to envelop or surround protectively; insulate 2) to wrap or enclose tightly

“Our sensitivity to others is enhanced with the emotionally receptive Cancer Moon. With the Moon’s more challenging aspects, though, to nebulous Neptune (3:46 pm EST) and restrictive Saturn (9:05 pm EST), we may feel more of a desire to keep to ourselves, sacredly cocooned in our own warm thoughts. Sequestered away from any high drama or difficult situations.”

Cosmic Word Of The Day: Fidgety

(Moon in Gemini. Moon square Uranus.)

Fidgety: 1) restless; impatient; uneasy 2) nervously and excessively fussy

“We’re feeling the affects of the fidgety Gemini Moon today. It’s harder to sit still. Sort of like we have ants in our pants or something. Accentuating the restlessness is the Moon’s square to herky jerky, tempermental Uranus (2:24 PM EST) which can also make us feel more defiant and rebellious.

Later, the Moon shifts into Homebody Cancer (8:14 pm EST). Suddenly, the myriad stresses of the day all seem to take a backseat to “what’s cooking on the stove.”

From morning till night, sounds drift from the kitchen, most of them familiar and comforting…On days when warmth is the most important need of the human heart, the kitchen is the place you can find it; it dries the wet sock, it cools the hot little brain.” E. B. White

The “Big Star of the Show,” the Sun, dashes off into “The Best Is Yet To Come” Sagittarius on November 22nd (5:15 am EST), with peppermint candy canes in its stockings and an irrepressible “come hither” twinkle in its eyes. We’re believing that life is pretty good now, yes indeed. Epecially with Mental Mercury and Manic Mars already sequestered in the outer regions of this “I Can Do All Things Because I Believe” sign for the next little bit as well.

This is the time we all get a chance to play teacher, preacher, politician, and star athlete of the week for thirty days. We’re also spinning tails about fairies and feasting on sugar plums. Life is just an all-around adventure.  All aboard! Come on little choo-choo train, you can make it. Take us all on a big, big ride. To the Moon, Alice! To the Moon!
